Scotland set to join Barnsley
By Doug O'Kane (Barnsley Chronicle)

Veteran striker Jason Scotland is set to become David Flitcroft's first signing as Barnsley manager.

Flitcroft says he has a verbal agreement in place with the Trinidadiad international, who turns 34 in February, to join until the end of the season. He is due to make his debut at Blackpool on Saturday as he will not be signed quickly enough to face Millwall on Tuesday.

Scotland made 14 appearances for Ipswich and scored twice this season before being released earlier this month. He was a regular under Paul Jewell but slipped down the pecking order after Mick McCarthy took over and played just once under the former Barnsley defender.

Scotland scored on his debut today as Barnsley beat Millwall 2-0

Barnsley manager David Flitcroft:
"The group have covered every blade of grass, they've used every sinew, run all over the opposition, out-passed the opposition, outfought them and come out on top.
"Jason's finish was exquisite, but I look at his all-round game, his intelligence, runs and link-up play and he said to me before the game: 'Don't worry about me Flick, I've got an unbelievable touch and my movement is great.'
"I've only known him 24 hours, but there's already an excitement round him and a calmness and I look forward to working with him because he might have found a home here."

Did he do any of this in slow motion? His detractors (cue JC) would love to know.

Keep the production up, Scotty. It will create challenges for the selectors. But, on de real doh, Charles and Shabazz should consider Scotty from the point of view of intangibles he would bring .. not just goals. (They should also insert Glen into the lineup for at least an upcoming friendly (preferably 2) to see how that goes). Nobody should be dismissing Glen just because.

Intangibles would include ppl playing off him, a PK kicker, added dimension on free kicks, mentorship  ... a player who doesn't need to get in behind to be effective.

I think Scotty has already called time on his international career
