Nero, Spann win again in US (http://www.guardian.co.tt/sport/2013-03-24/nero-spann-win-again-us)
Published: Monday, March 25, 2013

Former Carifta champions Gavyn Nero and Kernesha Spann were victorious for a second week on the US Collegiate Circuit.
Nero (Baylor University) secured the men’s 800m (1:52.68) at the Baylor Quad Invitational in Waco, Texas on Friday.
The 23-year old also helped Baylor to finish fourth in the rarely run 4x400-yard relay.
Baylor clocked 3:15.99. The 11-time Carifta gold medallist won the two-lap event at the TCU Invite one week earlier.
Nero’s former Baylor teammate Zwede Hewitt was second in the men’s 100m in pb of 10.59 and was fifth in the 200m (21.43).
Spann sped to her third victory in her first outdoor campaign for Western Texas taking the women’s 400m hurdles in 1:00.55 at the UTEP Springtime meet in Moscow, Idaho on Saturday.
At the A&M Springbreak Classic last week, Spann secured the 400m (56.86)/400m hurdles(1:03.97) double. Elton Walcott was also triumphant in Idaho landing the men’s triple jump.
The 2011Pan American Junior champion and brother of Olympic men’s Javelin gold medallist Keshorn Walcott got his winning leap of 15.76m in the fifth round. Olympic men’s 4x400m bronze medallist Ade Alleyne-Forte was runner up in the men’s 400m at the LSU Relay in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 47.04.
Shermund Allsop (LSU) was fifth in the men’s 100m (10.55) with Kyron Blaise in 18th (10.99).
Blaise helped his Tigers Olympians team to victory in the men’s 4x100m in 39.94 ahead of Allsop and LSU (39.98).

The times of the other runners seem to be times that they are all capable of on other tracks so Ahye's time might well be valid/legit since they were all timed by the same clock in the same race.
Maybe the wind was very strong, what was the official wind speed?
-
I reckon it was very near the 2.0 mark or slightly above it.

But that is still pure speculation.
I hope we can get the official times for that race including wind speed etc from an official source.

No wind reading for the race ...wind gauge probably blown down like de potted plants they had to keep righting every now and then. It we want a real performance it was machel cedenio ...he looking good and his time was excellent over the 400 ...he is ready to reach a 400 final anywhere now ...

Lol you know how many times I see clock stop working all kind a thing. I don't trust the times in that stadium.

What time did Machel run and can we have more official results from this meet?
Lets hope we now have Machel the young 400m runner like we have had Machel the soca singer who will give us many years of top notch medal winning performances. So yuh reckoning Machel can make the 400m final in the World Athletics Champs coming up later this year then?

I reckon it was very near the 2.0 mark or slightly above it.
But that is still pure speculation.
I hope we can get the official times for that race including wind speed etc from an official source.
Soca that's judging by the fact that in the Falcon Games many of the girls who ran in that race ran similar times. Those times were in with a 2.0 following wind so that's why I make that assumption.

Cedenio wins at President’s Classic (http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/Cedenio-wins-at-Presidents-Classic-201792391.html)
By Kern De Freitas kern.defreitas@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: Apr 6, 2013 at 9:24 PM ECT
Trinidad and Tobago’s Carifta Games gold medallist Machel Cedenio maintained his winning ways yesterday, snapping up victory in the men’s 400 metres event, at the 2013 National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) President’s Classic.
On the Hasely Crawford Stadium track, Cedenio, in his Simplex Athletics colours, looked very comfortable in cruising to victory in 46.99 seconds, ahead of Neon Trackers’ Kern Alexis.
This time, Cedenio did not need to muster a big effort in the final 50 metres, as he did at Carifta in the Bahamas. The 17-year-old quartermiler eased through his first 300, with Alexis marginally ahead, and then switched on the power at the end to ensure there was no other winner, before shutting down.
Unattached runner Richard Jones also showed his superiority, perhaps with a bit less comfort than Cedenio.
Jones and Defence Force runner Matthew Hagley enjoyed the front to themselves. They traded the lead several times up to the home straight, before Jones made his move at the top of the straight, easily holding off his rival.
Visually impaired thrower Carlos Greene had the attention of the crowd in the shot put Men’s Open event, but his best effort of 10.76 metres was only good enough for fourth. Akeem Stewart of Tobago Falcons took that event with an impressive 17.77m effort.
Among the top women in action yesterday were Geraldine George (Petrotrin Palo Seco), who took the Women’s Open javelin with a 39.26m throw, and Romona Modeste (Neon Trackers), winner of the women’s 400m Open in 54.88 seconds.

Ayodele Taffe starred at the 2013 National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) President's Classic on Saturday night at Hasely Crawford Stadium, sprinting to victory in the Boy's Under-20 100 metres invitational in a good time of 10.52 seconds.
In fact, Taffe's was the fastest time on the night, as Alpha’s Tacuma Sterling clocked 10.71 to win the men’s 100m invitational.
Taffe beat team mate Holland Cabara (10.80) and Micah Ballantyne of Alpha (10.82) into second and third respectively. Sterling got the better of Concorde’s Jonathan Holder (10.73, second) and Simplex’s Jesse Berkley (10.74, third) in a tight finish.
Rebirth’s Michelle-Lee Ahye also had a hot run, streaking to an 11.07 clocking to win the women’s 100m invitational. By 50 metres she was in control and she comfortably crossed the line ahead of Concorde duo Nandelle Cameron (11.42) and Lisa Wickham (11.44), who were second and third in that order.
Abilene Wildcats also shone in the 4x400m relays, taking the men’s Open and Boys Under-17 events over that distance, while Neon Trackers ‘A’ took the women’s equivalent.

Renny Quow opened his 2013 campaign with an impressive victory in the men’s 200 metres event at the Texas Tech Open in Texas, USA, on Saturday.
The Trinidad and Tobago athlete finished first in section three and first overall in 20.75 seconds—his fastest ever half-lap opener.
Saturday’s race was Quow’s first competitive outing since the quarter-miler withdrew from the 2012 London Olympics with a hamstring injury.
Reyare Thomas and Kernesha Spann were also in winners’ row at the Texas Tech Open.
Thomas emerged victorious in the women’s 100m dash, the T&T/Abilene Christian University (ACU) sprinter stopping the clock at 11.57 seconds.
Spann, meanwhile, topped the women’s 400m hurdles field. The T&T/Western Texas College athlete returned a time of one minute, 00.27 seconds.
And in the women’s 100m hurdles, University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) student, Aeisha McDavid clocked 14.88 seconds to finish sixth in section one and ninth overall.
Jarrin Solomon was a runaway winner of the men’s 400m event, at the Don Kirby Tailwind Collegiate Invitational, in New Mexico. The T&T quarter-miler grabbed gold in 45.70 seconds, the clocking earning him third spot on the 2013 world outdoor performance list. Solomon also competed in the 200m, finishing second in 20.90.
At the Sam Howell Invitation, in New Jersey, Jamaal James shrugged off uncomfortably cold conditions to win a men’s 1500m event in 3:53.30. The race was James’ 2013 opener.
Mikel Thomas bagged bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Florida Relays. He got to the line in 13.57 seconds to finish first in his section and third overall.
Kelly-Ann Baptiste ran the leadoff leg for Pure Athletics in the women’s 4x400m relay, the T&T sprinter helping her team earn fourth spot in 3:29.43. Baptiste combined with Jamaican Samantha Henry-Robinson and Americans Tiffany Townsend and Shalonda Solomon.
Aleesha Barber was 12th fastest in the women’s 100m hurdles in a wind-assisted 13.39 seconds. In the men’s 800m, Baylor University senior Gavyn Nero and St Augustine’s College junior Jameel Walcott finished 12th and 18th, respectively, clocking 1:51.59 and 1:52.33. Coppin State University’s Deandra Daniel cleared the bar at 1.71 metres for 12th spot in the women’s high jump.
Olympic 400m bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon was 13th in the men’s 200m in 20.92 seconds. University of Tennessee sophomore Jamol James clocked 21.41 for 23rd spot. James finished 18th overall in the men’s 100m dash in a wind-aided 10.59 seconds, while Moriba Morain was 43rd in 10.76.
And in the men’s 400m, University of Florida senior Jovon Toppin (47.97), Rondel Sorrillo (48.98), Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus) junior Kervin Morgan (49.22) and Jamil James (50.76) were 25th, 40th, 43rd and 55th, respectively.

KAB ran a solid race she looked like she tightened up towards the end as she gritted her teeth and VCB's top end speed just shun through. KAB looks like she is holding her speed better towards the end of the race than she was last year. I want her to take the 200 more seriously this season I'm sure she would have held up against VCB. Looks like a promising season ahead for our Kels. Carrie Russell
seems to be readying I reckon it will be SAFP, VCB and Carrie on the 100m.
Tyson Gay is back and thats good to see.

I really feel I need to highlight this performance by Dominique williams ...I was there to see it and could not believe it ...this 18 year old who has never run close to this before just came from nowhere ...just like La londe gordon did at the national trials before the olympics ..and blew away the field. It was impressive as she had never beaten Modeste and Massiah before. they ran their usual times so it was not a questionable times race as we have had in the past.
If the stacy Ann smith who came second is the one who was born in the USA, came 4th at world juniors in 2010 and won gold for the USA in the 4x400 relay at the same world juniors but now represents Jamaica then beating her was some achievement.. I am wanting to see what Williams does next time out .

Nice run by Aleesha. Never seen Dominique run. But that is some good news. There was a girl who run in the recent Carifta games, can't remember her name. She looks like another promising prospect.

Keston Bledman stopped the clock at 10.14 seconds to finish first in heat one in the men’s 100m preliminaries. The race was the T&T sprinter’s 2013 individual opener.
In the final, Bledman was a non-finisher. The Express has been informed, though, that the double Olympic medallist is not injured.
Machel Cedenio seized silver in the men’s 400m, the 2013 Carifta Games boys’ under-20 champion clocking 46.66 seconds to finish behind Kenya’s Alfas Kishoyan (46.61).
Moriba Morain clocked a wind-aided 21.10 seconds, for second spot in the men’s 200m “B” race.
On Sunday, at the Belem Grand Prix, in Brazil, T&T’s Rondel Sorrillo snapped up silver in the men’s 100m dash in 10.28 seconds. Marc Burns finished fourth in 10.51, the same time clocked by his fifth-placed fellow-T&T sprinter, Emmanuel Callender.
Mikel Thomas bagged bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles, the T&T athlete getting to the line in 13.77 seconds.
At a meet in Baie Mahault, Guadeloupe, last Wednesday, Sorrillo topped the men’s 100m field in 10.21 seconds.
Jehue Gordon was also impressive, the T&T athlete clocking 49.05 seconds—his fastest time this season—to finish second in the men’s 400m hurdles. Gordon is sixth on the 2013 world performance list.
Jereem Richards finished second in a men’s 400m event in 47.30 seconds.

Walcott places sixth in Doha (http://www.guardian.co.tt/sport/2013-05-11/walcott-places-sixth-doha)
Published: Saturday, May 11, 2013
T&T’s Olympic gold medallist Keshorn Walcott placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 79.79 metres in the season’s first Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar, yesterday.
Walcott could not duplicate last Friday’s performance when he opened with a throw of 84.39 at the inaugural TnT Elite Twilight Games at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain.
Taking the event was the 2012 European champion Vitezslav Vesely of Czech Republic with an 85.09 attempt. Second was world leader Tero Pitkamaki of Finland while Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen was third. Thorkildsen, who won back-to-back Olympic men’s javelin titles in 2004 and 2008, was dethroned by Walcott last year at the London Games.
Reigning world champion German Matthias De Zordo and Ian Zaytsev of Uzbekistan, were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Also yesterday, Jamaica’s two-time Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce sped to victory in the women’s 200m.
Fraser-Pryce clocked 22.48 seconds to lead a Jamaica domination of the top spots with Sherone Simpson securing second in 22.73.
Simpson was followed by France's Myriam Soumare while another Jamaican, Samantha Henry Robinson, was fourth in 22.97.
This was Fraser-Pryce's second win over 200 metres in six days.
In the men’s 100-metre dash, America's Justin Gatlin clocked 9.97 just ahead of Mike Rodgers and Jamaican Nesta Carter who both posted 9.99. Kim Collins from St Kitts was fourth in 10.04 seconds.
World and Olympic champion David Rudisha cruised to victory in the 800. Rudisha’s time of 1 minute 43.87 seconds was significantly slower than the 1:40.91 he ran to break the world record at the 2012 London Olympics.
After the pacemaker retired midway through the race, Rudisha surged to the front and was never threatened. He beat Mohammed Aman by more than a half second, avenging a loss to the Ethiopian at a Diamond League event in Zurich last year.
“I feel good. I was relaxing today,” Rudisha said. “It was the beginning of the season and it was first race, so there was no pressure. (Aman) defeated me in the last race of the season, and it was good to do something at least in the beginning of the season to give me more confidence.”
Gatlin started slowly out of the blocks but came home in the final 20 metres to edge out compatriot Mike Rodgers at the line with a time of 9.97. The line-up was weaker than in previous years, with Yohan Blake pulling out injured and Usain Bolt not scheduled to compete.
Countryman Tyson Gay holds the year-leading time of 9.86, while Bolt opened his season by running 10.09 in the Cayman Islands earlier this week after recovering from a minor hamstring strain.
American athletes won six of the 16 events and there were meet records for Olympic women’s long jump champion Britney Reese and Ryan Whiting in the men’s shot put. Reese leapt 7.25 metres, and Whiting threw 22.28 meters in an event in which Olympic gold medallist Tomasz Majewski finished sixth.
The only setback was Allyson Felix, whose 10-race winning streak in Doha came to an end when she came second in the 400m behind Amantle Montsho of Botswana. Felix hadn’t run the 400 since the 2011 world championships, a race she also lost to Montsho.

Well done to Mr Lendore I'm sure he'll be doing great things this year. Another noteworthy performance was by Sparkle Mcknight who won her 400m hurdles race in 55.71! Hopefully when Josanne recovers fully she can start off with a 56./57. and work her way back into shape slowly and we can have two female world class 400m hurdlers in the future. Here's the vid:

I thought Josanne's injury was career ending? If not, I hope she comes back soon. There is just over a month left before the nationals. I hope everyone from Josanne to Darrel to Renny is fit to fight for a spot on the team. Best of luck to those who are trying to make a comeback.

lalonde, keshorn, borel eh make ah note in that meet.

So far this season, Texas A&M sophmore Deon Lendore is our only athlete to put himself on a top spot on the world list
Lalonde Gordon started his season hot with that 32.4 indoor 300m run, but has gone backwards with every race since. I believe he has raced too much and is paying the consequences. See that terrible race from Shanghai last Friday.
As for our short sprinters, pretty much nothing has been going on. Keston ran at that practice meet and opened up with a very average. 10.14 and may also be injured now. Richard is yet to run a meaningful race, so his status is unknown, but is suppose to run at the NY DL this weekend, and the supporting cast just run ah set ah GOBAR in Brazil over the past 2 weeks. Slight correction ...Adel turned 13 this January . This is his first year as an under 15 runner. ..he eh 14 yet ! He also did that time in pain ...he begged his coach to run and slowed in the end. You should have seen him struggle to walk up the stadium steps after the race...yet he said he was fine. If you know this boy ...he would say nothing wrong even if he was on crutches . The coach said he would take him out the 200 final ...and I see that he did today.
He could have gone faster but I understand why ... I have not seen a more focused competitor maybe since Dwight Yorke maybe .. Adel wants to go to the 201 olympics ...oh did I mention that he did the SEA ( common entrance ) exam this year ...he is still in primary school.
-
Mikael won the 110 hurdles as well and for the first time he left 1 hurdle standing ...he usually knocks down all 10 ! He really looked good winning the 100 ...easy and comfortable ...he is really a powerful sprinter ...if only he could grow another 2 inches ! Amazing how he could run such fast times in the 110 hitting every hurdle with his heel ! If he could just go over his time would be even better .
-
18 year old Ayodele Taffe is another one to watch ...his QRC coach says he is going to Texas A&M this year...he has been improving since switching to the Charlie Joseph team Abilene wildcats .....the club of Deon Lendore, the farinha brothers and several other young stars...
he is running faster as the season progresses ..

Still only 14 years old and running a 11.13. Although the wind +2.7.. 11.13 is a great time for a 14 year old.
Okay.. My mistake. I thought he was 14. Plus I compared the time to the rest of the field.. Regardless, certainly something to pay attention too.

he is running faster as the season progresses ..
is ayodele attending QRC now or just working out with their coach?

Well he did represent QRC in Penn this year so I would say yes . According to the coach he needed to work on the academics to qualify . I remember picking him him out some years ago ...when he beat John Mark constantine ...the first time I had seen JMC lose a 100 metre race ... Poor fella ...I dont think he has recovered since then ! He is another with great potential but is suspected of having choke on big ocassions syndrome.

ok..ayodele is talented but discipline was his issue when he was at Pres and Petrotrin. In addition to you, i have heard some other ppl also saying he is doing better under his new coach.
there is still hope for him if he gets on the right track...bledman was there years ago and has turned it around big time.

Wow. The big story here is Mikel Thomas. I think thats a NR and puts him in the top 5 on the iaaf list. He is surely surprising us this year. He is in contention to get some diamond league invites now.
RT finally gets his A standard.
-
Wayne Davis is running today. He is also in fine form. I thought he would be the one to break the NR which he set. We will see if Wayne Davis takes the NR from Mikel.

Gay sprints to year’s fastest 100m to defeat Gatlin (http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/Gay-sprints-to-years-fastest-100m-to-defeat-Gatlin-212640081.html)

Tyson Gay overcame Olympic bronze medallist Justin Gatlin’s quicker start and sped to the year’s fastest 100 metres, clocking 9.75 seconds at the US trials for the World Championships on Friday.
Fully fit for the first time in years, Gay took control mid-race with a dominant run to equal the tenth fastest 100m of all time. Gatlin finished second in 9.89 seconds in the race at Des Moines, Iowa.
“It’s been five years since I have been the U. champion and it feels good to be back on the podium,” said Gay, beset by injuries since winning both sprint titles at the 2007 world championships.
“I’m not as sharp as I could be but I’m healthy, so that’s all that counts,” said Gay, who ran another 9.75, this one wind-assisted, in the semi-finals.
Gatlin, who surprised Jamaican world record holder Usain Bolt in Rome earlier in the month, said he was affected by a strained right hamstring.
“It felt good running 9.8 with a bandage on,” said the 2004 Olympic gold medallist, who narrowly edged Gay for the bronze medal at last summer’s London Games.
Charles Silmon grabbed the third spot on the US team for “Worlds” by edging Mike Rodgers by two thousandths of a second. Silmon ran 9.972 and Rodgers 9.974.
Collegiate champion English Gardner came on strong to win the women’s 100 in another year-best time, 10.85 seconds, and Olympian Sharon Day delivered the top heptathlon score of the season, 6,550 points.
Gardner, now coached by John Smith, edged Octavious Freeman (10.87) with Alexandria Anderson grabbing third (10.91).
Haitian-born Barbara Pierre struggled to finish fifth after setting the world lead of 10.85 in the semi-finals that Gardner equalled.
The 100m hurdlers also flexed their speed, with collegiate record holder Brianna Rollins blitzing to an eye-catching but wind-assisted 12.33 seconds in qualifying.
Queen Harrison added a wind-assisted 12.44 seconds, hometown Olympian Lolo Jones clocked a wind-allowable 12.50 seconds.
The 2008 Beijing gold medallist Dawn Harper won her preliminary in a wind-assisted 12.60.
World record holder Ashton Eaton, taking a “play it safe” approach, trailed Gunnar Nixon after the first day of the decathlon with 4,405 points. Nixon had 4,449.
Beijing Olympic gold medallist Lashawn Merritt led 400m qualifying in 44.36 seconds, but London winner Sanya Richards-Ross, hampered by toe surgery, barely slipped into yesterday’s women’s final as the next-to-last qualifier.
She ran 51.53 with Francena McCorory the leader at 50.53.
The trials end today.

World record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt put in a workman-like display to win the 100 metres on Friday at the Jamaican trials for the world championships.
Bolt recovered from a slow start to catch Nickel Ashmeade at the 50-metre mark and clocked a time of 9.94 seconds after easing off over the last ten metres.
The sub-10 second run was the 35th of his career.
“It was good to win ... I’m not too worried about the time as I have one solid month to work on getting ready for Russia,” Bolt told Reuters.
“The start wasn’t perfect, but the drive phase was better than it was when I lost to (Justin) Gatlin and then the turbo chipped in,” the 2009 world champion added, noting that coach Glen Mills advised him to do just enough to win.
Kemar Bailey-Cole sneaked up to take second in 9.98, while Ashmeade, who made the 200m final at the 2011 world championships, placed third in 9.99.
In the surprise of the trials, former world record holder Asafa Powell failed to fire in his third straight race in two nights, finishing seventh in 10.22.
Bolt expressed sympathy for Powell, who has struggled with hamstring troubles this season.
“Asafa has been through a lot this season and I was surprised he ran at these trials,” the six-time Olympic gold medallist said.
“He will just have come again on the European circuit.”
Olympic double sprint silver medallist Yohan Blake will be the fourth Jamaican in the men’s 100m in Russia by virtue of being the defending world champion.
In the absence of two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the women’s title went to 2008 Beijing silver medallist Kerron Stewart in 10.94.
“I knew as long as I executed a good race, I would win.” Stewart told Reuters. “I have to give all credit to God (because) when everybody counted me out, he got me through.”
Sherone Simpson, who shared the Beijing Olympic silver, placed second in 11.02.
“It has been rough coming to the trials, but I’m happy I got into the second place,” she told Reuters.
Schillonie Calvert was third in 11.07 seconds and will join Fraser-Pryce at the August 10-18 World Championships, who has a wild card entry to Moscow.
Olympic finalist Leford Green posted a season best 49.20 seconds to win his fourth straight Jamaican 400m hurdles title with a dogged run to hold off Annsert Whyte, who slammed into the final hurdle.
Whyte held on for second in 49.30secs.
Isa Phillips placed third in 49.59 to make his fourth straight world championships team.
Ristananna Tracey, the 2011 semi-finalist at Daegu, South Korea, posted a personal best 54.52 seconds to win the women’s 400m hurdles.
Daneille Dowie and Nickiesha Wilson were both credited with 54.94 for second and third respectively to book their tickets to Moscow. Kaliese Spencer will be Jamaica’s fourth athlete in the event in Russia.

Ok cool but at this point in the build-up to Worlds they both need to be running legal sub-10s at some point and not be struggling to run the WCA standard as those are the sort of times they need to be ruuning at will if they wish to come out of the first round at Worlds.
It would be nice to see some legal sub-10s from both of them at some point before the World Champs come around in just over a month's time. Running 10.32 for 5th place at this point in the season and being thumped by Kim Collins is rather disappointing from our top T&T sprinter.

With these performances by the Trini men sprinters.. No wonder why some of us in here keep hoping for a return of Mr Brown. Yes.. Brown making a full come back may seem far fetched.. But until one of our sprinters shows that they can run sub 10 consistently, people will continue to cling on to the one ounce of hope that Brown will come back.
Something to think about.. TT (men) winning a medal in the 4x100 in Moscow? Cant see it happening with these current performances.

I think you need to speak for yourself as you are the only one here who seems to be living in hope of Brown getting faster at this stage of his career. It is a sad story but he could not even make the T&T team as a member of the relay squad this year.
And taking about our Men's 4x100m relay team I think we have as good a chance as any other team of medalling if they work on consistent smooth baton exchanges and having the right order to our line-up to obtain our fastest possible times. We may not medal in the individual 100m in Moscow or even make the final but we do stand a decent chance of medalling in the Men's 4x100m relay if we put in enough relay practice.
I also think our Women's 4x100m relay team has a good chance of medalling in addition to KAB having a decent chance of medalling again in the individual 100m event.
If you are hoping for Brown after all his injuries and mismanagement to come back and medal in a major champs, you might as well also be hoping for Ato to come back out of retirement after his injury and at his age and outperform Kim Collins. It is not going to happen in this reality so it’s time to let go of that fantasy and move on.
Let’s concentrate on our talented young sprinters coming up and hope that one or two of them with the natural talent can become another Ato or surpass his achievements if nurtured, supported and managed properly.

The TF community needs to do something fast because I don't see anything promising in men and women sprints. Kelly Ann is the exception. Kelly is on the other side of 25. What the hell they doing.
-
The gov't and corporate T&T have NOOOO guts whatsoever, especially the latter. They are in the business of betting on horses only AFTER they win. With Mario's Pizza and the like making millions on people selling fast food, you think they might contribute to something other than selling unhealthy junk.
My point is, we have not just youth like Taffe and James showing up big this year but proven talent like Cedenio and Jereem Richards proving themselves at the global junior level. You think they would be sponsored for even their expenses locally, far less sent to develop themselves on the European Circuit?? NOOOOO. They have to win an Olympic/World medal first or no dice.
Corporate T&T should be lining up to INVEST in the next wave of talent, but for most part remain spineless bloodsuckers.

Trini 1, I also share your view point that she is running loaded. The bounce in her step that she ran with at T&T trials is visibly missing. She doesn't get as much hip height and ground contact time is seemingly longer in this race.
-
Thanks for the vid and I thought I saw that difference. No one on any other site seems to notice that but in a way it's good because now people are underestimating her and she can surprise when the time is right. I would love to see her do well on the circuit and if not beat SAFP then challenge her like Blessing is but she's just got to peak for champs because that's the goal.

The fact she was beaten by Jeets who is on the comeback from injury. I know KAB usually doesn't run fast times leading up to majors esp in small meets like this (eg Lucerne 2011/2012) but being beaten by Jeets...
I know Jeter had a great first 100m when she did the deuce in Lausanne which indicated she was getting stronger but KAB ran 10.83 in Trinidad around 10.92 basic.... she should at least be around 11.0 or 11.0x shouldn't she?
So questions arise, did Kelly experience some more injury niggles, is the track or timer in Trinidad faulty? Positive:with coach Lance Kelly seems to be pulling it off in the majors and I expect her to make the final but I want her to medal although that outcome is becoming more unlikely. I still have hope.

Starting to worry less about KAB. I feel that coach Lance will have her ready for the champs as he has done in the last two previous years. It would be nice to see her winning a few of these meets but Moscow is the goal so... here is the vid

She's looking good form wise it just has to come together at champs.
Richard hasn't been the same since the accident. I think he probably needs to take a break and heal and juice and all that great stuff and come back rejuvenated and ready to compete with the best and beat Kim Collins lol.

I will stick my neck out and say that the men's 4x400 relay may spring a very pleasant surprise, even gold - US (after Merritt and maybe McQuay who else is consistent?); Bahamas (not the same team this year with Pinder out); Jamaica (looks good on paper as a contender but have to put it together on the big stage). And well T&T - looking better this year than last year for sure - Quow is back to replace the weakest leg (Alleyne-Forte), Solomon PR'ed, Lendore PR'ed and has been resting; Gordon PR'ed in the 200 and if he cannot regain his 2012 400m form will at least run a monster leg.

on the relay side i agree that the 4x400 men has the best shot for a medal....the men and women 4x100 should make finals but i not expecting any medals there based on current form.
-
I expect Lalonde to come into form soon. Last year he peaked late.. Might do the same this year.
My prediction for Moscow:
4 medals
Jehue Gordon 400mh
Kelly Ann Baptiste 100m
men 4x400
Women 4x100
5 medals mens 4x100.. If Richard and Keston runs some sub 10s soon.
-
Definitely agree with your medal predictions. Jehue's run on Friday shows that he is peaking around the right time and the fact that he finished strongly and executed his race plan against such strong competition is a positive.
All KAB needs to do is peak at the right time and she has a medal. Safp fave, blessing strong silver possibly gold if she can get it right. Kelly can be up there but she has to execute. She is capable of 10.7x... She ran 10.98 into a -1.4 headwind in Daegu. 2 years on she is stronger and more experienced. If not executed she will be fighting murielle or jeter for a bronze.
4x400m definite medal we have a lot of guys running 45 mid and Lendore running below and if things go well we will be challenging for gold.
Women's 4x1 need to get the baton around. We may have a slight problem for the fact that Kai and semoy are weaker than last year but both KAB and MLA are stronger which may balance out around low 42. Just need to get the baton around and anything can happen.
-
The 100m women right now are SAFP and Okagbare. Three people will not beat those two. I am this close to picking Okagbare for three GOLDS - LJ, 200 and 100 - that is how good she has been this year.
Jeter has rebounded mightily as well at 100m, so that W100 is not what it looked like in 2011. I don't think KAB is an outrageous medal pick, but don't base it on 2011, because 2011 was the worst year for SAFP and there was no Ahoure or Okagbare.
-
The truth spoken but for me Okagbare still has to show me that she won't fizzle out in the final after running well in the rounds. That can only be in the final. So I guess we have to wait and see hehe.
What I was saying about KAB was that in 2011 she ran 10.98 into a 1.4 m/s headwind. That equates to around 10.8 mid/high basic right. I know she had bad injuries last year but she is stronger than 2011. In the same way both Ahoure and Okagbare have improved since 2 years ago shouldn't KAB have improved also. So technically she can when at her peak run 10.7x this year and do it when it's needed most.
The only issue with this though is theory doesn't always translate to when it comes to the practical situations. I guess it's a matter of running whatever time it takes to get that medal so if it be 10.7 let it be that or if it be 11.1 let it be that.
-
Situation with Okagbare's coach was tenuous at best, plus the complication of long jumping and sprinting at that level at an Olympics. This year she believes it can happen, and has learned from the collapse last year. That makes her dangerous. KAB can beat Jeter this year. She should have beaten her (and won) in Daegu. Don't sleep on a rested and recovered Gardner either who trains with both Jeter and Okagbare now and has no fear of anyone.
Final should be Gardner, KAB, Ahoure, Jeter, SAFP, Freeman, Okagbare and then a wild card like Lalova who always seem to run well at the big meets.
-
That indeed makes her a strong contender for gold. The way she ran down SAFP in Paris and Eugene. Shows in the future she may well be bolt like among the women. She showed inexperience by leaning way too early in that Paris race. And she would have learned from that... I totally forgot about Gardner. She is a danger esp being trained by John Smith... I'm going to say that inexperience will get the better of her but only for now. With her start and John Smiths knack for helping improve speed endurance she will be the next SAFP. Interesting you said KAB should have beaten Jet in Daegu. Why is that?

I think T&T's best chance of a medal at the World Champs this year is the men's 4x4 relay...they look like they can at least win silver in the 4x4

Kelly Ann runs tomorrow and has not run sub 11 this season outside of Trinidad which is a bit worrying....hope she gets it right tomorrow.

Well she just did. 10.99 for 4th in her heat. Final is in 80 minutes.
-
10.93 in the final for 3rd.
-
Good to see KAB turn it around for the final. However, I think she needs to do some more 200s.

On another note, the last two Diamond League meets, had 4x1's on the schedule, and both our teams were absent. We don't need practice??? ???
-
KAB did a good job. She's rounding into form nicely. Just a bit concerned about the lil strapping. I'm thinking Barbara Pierre doesn't have to peak so she's going all out. SAFP is going to get that gold...10.77 easing down. Then the typical no start performance in the final. Blessing was all out in the final and ran 10.79. KAB seems like the real bronze contender. But the finals still have to be run.
-
Okagbare is the biggest threat to SAFP since 2008, because her biggest strength is SAFP's biggest weakness. Don't bet your house on SAFP
-
I just feel Shelly is extremely strong. Blessings' finish is the best in the game right now but Shelly seems to experiment in these finals. She raced without her start but kept up with the pack in the final. 10.77 in the heats easing down and with less wind than the final.
The scenarios where blessing will come out on top is if Shelly is feels pressured and loses her head or if blessing pressures her from the start and overhauls her mid race.
-
I'm happy Kelly placed in this race. Pierre is not there in Moscow but Jeter and Ahoure will give her a run for her money. I want her to medal but I want her in the 10.7 range too.
-
man, life will be tough for KAB. Blessings have this height advantage. If she can do a turnover like UB, nobody cah beat she. Barring injuries that is. But if Kelly medal between Moscow and Rio that will be super. Is time a TT woman win a medal. Go Kelly, go Princess!!!!!!
