Title: Jomal Williams Thread.
Post by: Sam on March 21, 2013, 11:41:22 AM
This is the player who could replace Latapy on the national team. His vision is the best I have seen since Latas, he does play above the ball and his head up at all times.

The problem is, as you know he from by Jemmott area and them fellas curse up they.

Williams have real issues and discipline problems, this is why he hardly does play for W Connection, and he famous for showing up late.

He from a badjohn family to, one of his brother got shot, de other one drown, his aunt get beaten with a hammer and was killed, I mean, you name it, de man grow up fatherless and he mother real illiterate, she have 10 kids with 5 different man.

His family is de one responsible for Allstars steelpan group, they was de one who bring them out.

But if we can get Jomal to change his ways, this man is the future number 10 for T&T.

Former national U-23 and U-20 midfielder, Jomal Williams, has signed a contract with French fourth division club, Pau FC. He has to return to T&T to sort out his visa, then he will be eligible to play from January 1, 2015.

Jomal sees big chance.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

For the second time in just about a year, Jomal Williams has earned selection on the national team by head coach Stephen Hart. He made his debut in an international friendly versus Panama last March and now he’s in the squad for tomorrow’s Copa America qualifier versus Haiti in Panama City.

The 22-year DirecTV W Connection midfielder knows that the opportunity is one he must grab with both arms and feet.

“This is big opportunity and it’s something I’ve been waiting on and one that I worked hard for,” Williams said.

“I would say to other players like myself who are hoping to make their debut for the national team, to keep working hard and believing. You have to stay focused and always tell yourself something good will come. It’s easy to lose hope but it’s important to keep believing.”

The former T&T Under 23 player added that the training camp in Trinidad over the past few days has been allowed him to learn more about Hart as a coach and to understand the team’s approach to playing.

“It’s been intense but the sessions have been quite good and I’ve been learning everyday. There are players in the team with a lot of experience and they are having a good run and I’m quite pleased to be part of it right now. Hopefully I can do enough to stay in the squad and be part of the set up for the World Cup qualifiers,” he added.

Thanks brother... Greatly appreciated... From my observations, he dribbles well, can pass and control the football, he takes corners well and predominantly plays on the left wing... I would like to see if Hart plays him in the centre of the park to service the forwards.. He can be dangerous at the top of the box if he is given the space...

I can see what big mag and Sam sees in him... I wouldn't say he is a Latas... But he has flair and has potential to play abroad with the right application and exposure and experience.. He will be a welcome addition to the midfield... Need to see him play at intl level to see what he does..

Winchester aims for consistency.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA)

Shahdon Winchester knows he has goals in him. From schoolboy days at Naparima College he has always possessed the ability to pounce on opposing teams and deliver in front of goal.

After several trials, he finally secured his overseas contract with FF Jaro in Finland in 2013 and he is now back with DirecTV W Connection a club which he has been a member of for the most part of his career.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work to get here, to be on the national team, especially for a World Cup qualifier,” he said.

“The goal is against Grenada felt good but I want to achieve more and hopefully I can keep seeing results.”

His W Connection teammate, Jomal Williams, is also looking to make his name for T&T.

“It’s encouraging for all three of us, myself, Hector and Shahdon to be in the national team at the same time. We work hard together and we have similar goals we want to achieve which is playing at the highest level and winning trophies. Now the chance to do well with the national team is finally here,” he said.

Winchester, Hector and Williams will be looking to make an impression when T&T faces St Vincent today in Kingstown from 3:30pm and on Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 7pm.

Jomal stays patient in Warriors camp.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA).

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Stephen Hart has said that he will need to keep some extra bottles of aspirin with him because of what he foresees as a selection headache for coming matches.

T&T needs one point from its next two 2018 World Cup Qualifying matches against Guatemala on September 2 and United States on September 6 in order to advance to the final round.

And one player who will be making Hart think about him during his selections is DirecTV W Connection midfielder Jomal Williams.

The ex-Under 20 player was on the bench for the both matches against St Vincent and the Grenadines and Hart has applauded him for his persistence and discipline.

“He’s work quite hard and it’s pleasing to see players like him and some of the other players who went to Grenada showing that kind of desire. This is good for the squad in general and it means players do not have the luxury of believing their spots are sure. The attitude in camp has been tremendous and it shows how much everyone wants to do what is right,” Hart said.

As for Williams, he will wait patiently on his chance.

“It’s been a great two weeks or so with the team. I’ve been learning everyday and taking in everything that the coach has to say to me and the other players. I know my chance will come and I intend to keep working hard and staying fit for that time,” Williams said.

“The chemistry in the team is strong and every player wants to keep pushing each other and doing what is best for the whole squad. I am quite happy to be part of this whole experience,” he added.

Williams returns with special feeling.
T&T Guardian Reports.

National midfielder Jomal Williams is back home with his first international goal under his belt and he couldn’t have wanted a better team for which to get his maiden strike.

Uruguay, ranked number nine in the world when they hosted T&T at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo late last month, possess all the ingredients of a rich footballing nation, from producing world class players to hosting the first ever World Cup Finals.

In fact, the said ground on which Williams banged in his opener, was rated by FIFA as one of the football world’s classic stadiums, along with the likes of the Maracanã, Wembley Stadium, the San Siro, the Estadio Azteca, and Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Williams returned home with the rest of the T&T team from the three-match tour on Saturday night. He will be back on the training field with W Connection as they prepare for their Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions’ League campaign starting in August.

“It was simply a special feeling to get my first goal in that match,” Williams said.

“Everything about the occasion was something that I will never forget. It was disappointing for us to lose the game but the occasion was great.

“And the quality of the team and the history of the stadium made it even more special for me,” he added.

“The experience of the entire tour was good, playing at a high level against three teams that really made it tough for us.

“The intensity of the matches was really high and I think it would help us as players, especially some of the new faces that are not accustomed to this level of football.

“I think this was definitely a valuable lesson for us going forward and looking ahead to the games in September.

“There are players who were on this tour who are hungry for the opportunity to make the World Cup squad but they also saw for themselves that there is a difference in terms of the level and they have to keep putting in the extra work and being consistent if they want to stay on the team,” Williams added.

The former Caledonia player has been attracting interest from a few overseas clubs with Costa Rican top flight Deportivo Saprissa showing interest in him in recent times.

Even before representing T&T at the Under 20 Level, Williams made the National Under 23 Team for the Olympic Qualifiers in 2012 under head coach Angus Eve at the age of 17. He appeared in the final group match against Honduras at the Home Depot Centre in Los Angeles.

I think even them fellas realize that to be in real contention for a starting space in the national team you have to be playing outside of T&T and not just a squad player out of the pro league. Jomal has been one of the standouts coming out of the most recent tour of matches.

Hope he grabs this opportunity with both hands.

Jomal joins Mexican club Murciélagos FC
TTFA Media

National Senior Team midfielder Jomal Williams has signed his first overseas contract after securing a move to join Mexican Ascenso MX club Murcielagos FC where he will team up with fellow countryman Yohance Marshall. Williams will also team up with one his DirecTV W Connection teammates Shahdon Winchester who was also unveiled today by Murcielagos as one of their new signings.

Williams, back home from the recent three-match international tour with the Men’s Senior Team, is awaiting his work permit before heading over to join the club which is based in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.

The former National Under 23, Under 20 and Under 17 player is coming off his first international goal in the recent 3-1 defeat to Uruguay in Montevideo.

“This is a great feeling and a sense of satisfaction for me on getting my first overseas contract. Every player dreams of playing professionally in a foreign league and I believe Mexico is a rich football country which can help me develop my game even more at this stage,” Williams told TTFA Media.

“My immediate goal will be to try and help the club get promoted. I wish to thank them for this opportunity to play in Mexico and I also want to thank W Connection for the chance to play professionally here in Trinidad and for their support since I have been at the club.

“My bit of advice to the other players, especially the younger ones, is to keep believing in your dreams, keep working hard and never give up on trying to achieve greatness.”

The 22-year-old Williams also wished the Connection team well in their upcoming CONCACAF Champions League campaign which begins in August.

Williams who hails from Old St Joseph Road, East Port of Spain, named Russell Latapy and Kevin Molino as the two players from Trinidad and Tobago which he looks up to.

“Latapy and Kevin (Molino) are the two players I would say I try to pattern my game by and who I look up to. My favourite player on the world stage is Cristiano Ronaldo. And the coaches I would like to make special mention of are ‘Dada’ (Anthony Wickham) and coachman (Stuart Charles Fevrier) for their roles in my career so far.

‘This is a new chapter in my career. I would like to say thanks to coach Hart for bringing me in to the national team as well and presenting an opportunity to me. Hopefully I can continue making the rise and be able to play a strong role for the team in the remaining World Cup qualifiers,” Williams concluded.

Jomal Williams delighted with first goal in Mexico
By Shaun Fuentes (T&T Guardian)

Midfielder Jomal Williams is still basking in the joy of scoring his first goal in Mexican professional football which came for his team Murcielagos FC in their 1-1 draw with Monarcas Morelia in the third round of the Copa MX last Monday.

Williams moved to Murcielagos alongside former W Connection teammate Shahdon Winchester roughly two months ago, joining countryman Yohance Marshall at the club.

Williams has settled in at the club and been widely accepted by his teammates and fans alike.

“This has been my biggest achievement since arriving at the club. Of course getting your first goal for a club is always something you set out to do,” Williams said on Wednesday.

“So far, the club and people of the city have welcomed me with open arms. It was a great feeling. I keep praying for something great that I believe God has in store for me and this is just a step towards that,” he added.

His constant interaction with Marshall and Winchester has made his Mexico stay even more enjoyable. “I get along very well with Yohance. He made the process of settling in easier for me. He is always willing to share advice. I have known Shahdon for a long time and we have been playing together for five years. The level of the league is high. The games are very intense and I think it is definitely helping all three of us with our personal games,” Williams said.

Williams, a former T&T Under 20 and Under 17 midfielder, made his senior team debut earlier this year and got his first international goal in a 3-1 loss to Uruguay in May.

Jomal settles under Saintfiet.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

For most players, having to prove themselves and readjust to the plans and philosophy of an incoming coach can sometimes be a new challenge as the player has to now prove himself again as team selection looms.

But for Mexican-based midfielder Jomal Williams has embraced the last couple weeks under recently installed National Senior Men’s Team head coach Tom Saintfiet.

Williams, formerly of W Connection and now based in Mexico with Murcielagos, said he has enjoyed the training with Saintfiet and his staff.

“For me it’s been a really good period so far under the new coach. He has his philosophy and his way of managing the team and the training sessions have been very organised and intense at times which is something really good for us,” Williams said this week following the first day of training at the start of the residential camp ahead of the friendlies versus Nicaragua.

“We are very focused at this time with the four matches coming up .These are important ones for us because we are getting ready for the Gold Cup qualifiers and the two World Cup qualifiers in March against Panama and Mexico,” Williams added.

Jomal: Grenada outing was useful.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

Mexican-based midfielder Jomal Williams put in a decent shift for this country’s senior team in the recent 2-2 draw with Grenada in St George’s in what was his first appearance under head coach Dennis Lawrence.

Williams played a part in T&T’s equaliser scored by Jabloteh forward Nathan Lewis in the second half after T&T fell behind before the break.

“The performance was good in the sense that were able to come back from a goal down and take the lead but unfortunately we let in the late second goal which was disappointing,” Williams said. “I was personally pleased to have set up a goal because as a winger that is one of your main jobs.”

“We took some time to feel out the Grenadian team but once we did, we began to take control of the game. The game helped us to execute some of the things the coach wants and play to his plan. All in all I think it was a good game as a build up to the qualifiers in June,” said the Murcielagos midfielder who also had club teammates Shahdon Winchester and Yohance Marshall alongside him the start team.

“A lot of the local players are now in preseason so the coach had a chance to work with them for a few days and he knows what he has to work with now for the games next month,” Williams added. The T&T senior team will resume camp later this month in preparation for the June 8th World Cup qualifier against the US at Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Colorado.

Williams looking to press for senior team return.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

Former W Connection winger Jomal Williams is maturing as a player and believes that his time spent outside with Murcielagos FC in the Mexican second division is playing a significant role in his growth.

Williams started and put on a solid display for this country in last Wednesday’s friendly loss to Ecuador in Guayaquil and could be an asset for Dennis Lawrence as he seeks to get the best possible roster together for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and Panama.

“I have had a strong preseason for Murcielagos. Both myself and Shahdon Winchester have been playing and keeping ourselves ready. I personally have been working really hard and I am seeing some rewards because I feel physically good and I thought my game, while it can always be better, was pretty decent against Ecuador. My main ambition is to start every game for Murcielagos and have a positive impact on the match and likewise, I want to do the same for the national team,” Williams added.

“It has been challenging for players like us from the Caribbean to really stamp our authority in the Mexican league but we’ve settled in and now there is a level of respect towards us but also high expectations which means we need to deliver when called upon.

It feels good to be looked at in this way because it means they people have embraced us. But the league is tough and we have to be competing everyday to have our places in the team and of course to keep the fans on our side. Everything about the time I am spending in Mexico has contributed to the player I am at this time in my career and I am hoping to keep on developing especially during the new season,” Williams said.

Stranded, with expired permits, El Salvador-based T&T pros want to come home
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express)

In normal times, El Salvador can be a dangerous place.

A very poor country where organised crime is a serious problem, El Salvador is one of the most dangerous places in Central America. To be trapped there during a pandemic without financial and emotional support can be devastating.

This is the plight of footballers Jamal Jack (Jocoro FC), Jomoul Francois (Independiente FC San Vicente) and Jomal Williams (Isidro Metapán), all of whom have represented Trinidad and Tobago at least once at senior international level.

Jack and Francois are on short stay work-permits that have expired while Williams, who in his second season, faces not as many issues but also wants to come home.

With El Salvador’s Premier Division halted since March 10 and the country under lockdown, defying strict restrictions concerning movement could mean jail for Jack and Francois since their permits have expired and there is no way to renew them while the virus rages. El Salvador has over 1,000 cases of confirmed Covid-19 and 20 deaths.

Tobago-born Jamal Jack highlighted the players’ plight on social media. Jack, a 32-year-old father of two, won three TT Pro League titles and two Caribbean Club Championship titles with Central FC and also played locally for Tobago United, San Juan Jabloteh and St Ann’s Rangers. For the past seven years he has been playing abroad in Guyana, USA and El Salvador.

Jack had to take the chance of being jailed just to go to the grocery since his documents have expired and he is essentially now there illegally. It has been increasingly difficult to contact club officials and he is in an uncomfortable situation,

“Two days ago, I take the risk,” Jack said, “I had to disguise myself (to go out).”

Francois, a speedy 24-year-old right winger, had played with both St Ann’s and La Horquetta Rangers, Ma Pau Stars, North East Stars, Central FC and San Juan Jabloteh, and has made two substitute appearances for the national team. Unable to go anywhere and with no support system, Francois is on edge.

“I never experienced anything like this,” stated Francois, who represented La Horquetta Rangers in the TT Pro League earlier this year, before heading to Central America on a short contract.

“The situation over here is very difficult for me,” he related, “I came here for football and this situation (Covid-19) came and happen. I never experienced such things like this.”

Williams has been a regular in the T&T national team and has also had stints at local club, W Connection. He has played overseas in Mexico, Azerbaijan and El Salvador in the last five years. Williams had a less than spectacular birthday, turning 26 on April 28 while in lockdown. Because it is his second season, he does not have the permit and movement restrictions of the others but is eager to come home as well.

“It very important that we return home because we are from Trinidad and Tobago and at the end of the day, we are in another country,” he said. “The people of the country will always be first, so, it will always be difficult for us.”

Reading the tea leaves would have helped. Nonetheless, intervention via formal representations at diplomatic level is likely needed because the situation in El Salvador is trending in a direction that those in the human rights community are questioning. Doh pass in de rush. I don't know how much of a long-term strategy taking to the streets in disguise is.

NC rescues 3 T&T footballers stranded in El Salvador.
T&T Guardian Reports.

T&T Football Association (TTFA) led by the FIFA Normalization Committee (NC) sprung into action to assist three national footballers, who Guardian Media Sports reported on Thursday, were left stranded in El Salvador.

The NC, which is headed by businessman Robert Hadad and comprises attorney Judy Daniel and retired banker Nigel Romano, has teamed up with the Unicomer Group and the El Salvador Football Federation (FESFUT) to ensure that national footballers Jomal Williams, Jamal Jack and Jomoul Francois, currently stranded in El Salvador, are kept safe and healthy until they can make their way back to T&T in light of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic restrictions.

The players, who have each represented the Soca Warriors senior team, were playing in El Salvador's Primera Division for the 2019/20 season but were facing increasing pressure to meet their daily demands after that country's government implemented lockdowns which forced the cancellation of the remainder of the season.

Defender Jack offered his genuine appreciation to all those involved in making the provisions possible.

“Mr Robert Hadad, a heartfelt thanks to you and your team for reaching out to us. We appreciate what you did for us,” said Jack. “I am sincerely grateful for the assistance.”

Jack and Francois joined El Salvadorian clubs Jocoro FC and Independiente FC San Vicente respectively in Januar while compatriot Williams signed for AD Isidro Metapan in July.

In March, the government of El Salvador declared a national quarantine in the fight against COVID-19 and has imposed strict measures to reduce the spread of the virus which has directly limited the footballers' movements and access to food and other supplies.

Managing Director of Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd Clive Fletcher liaised with Unicomer Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mario Siman to ensure that the players are now housed together and taken care of until T&T's borders are reopened.

The Unicomer Group operates in 27 countries from its headquarters in El Salvador and operates retail brands of the Unicomer Caribbean such as Courts, Courts Optical, Ashley Furniture HomeStore, RadioShack, Lucky Dollar and Servitech.

"TTFA would also like to acknowledge the tremendous assistance offered by Meybely Lopez and the president of the El Salvador Football Federation, and the player's clubs in making the arrangements possible," according to the football association's release.

"The TTFA will continue to communicate with the players to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible until they can return home. The players have expressed thanks to the Unicomer Group and the El Salvador Football Federation for their continued support."

Excellent outcome. Nonetheless, when will players absorb the importance of a foreign contract being twinned to a passport that does not have an imminent expiration date? It's precisely to avoid circumstances such as these that long have I urged that there be expeditious processing of player passports as a recognised category for expedition. Better that than trying to turn the world upside down at the messy end of the stick.

Jomal, it won't be long before you're playing closed door ball. Having the fans in the stands - despite the better intentions of the league - is not sustainable. On the evidence of the first round of play, it's a recipe for disaster.

Another one who was marked for greatness but sat of his laurels and did absolutely nothing to improve his game and allowed himself to wither into a standard pro league player. these TT players all start off hot and sweaty with high expectations on the horizon but within a few years plateaued into obscurity.

We have a real saga boy sports culture here in trinbago, and football for damn near most of these lads is to land them notoriety and the perks that go along with it, but the other aspects of the game means nothing to them, like striving to play in the best leagues in the world by improving their skill set and aiming to please the fans by putting in the necessary hard work like top ballers around the world.

They seem to think that neymar, messi, christiano, salah, sterling and even pulaisic all have natural football super powers and play all season without putting in the hard work, and when practice is over these guys go home and paint the town on their free time and the off season funning and flexing, when in reality they go all out putting in the extra back breaking work keeping their fitness level and working on their weaknesses.

I could only hope the lads like poon ageron, Gary griffith 111, Levi garcia, Noah powder and the youngsters coming up know that in order to be marketable and play in the big leagues they have to put in the strenuous laborious nonstop work on their craft.

I am willing to offer constructive critiques about players. I raise my hands on that. Have done it on the forum and face to face. However, we have to be careful not to place the consequences of our deficient system at the feet of the individual players or on where their growth stalls.

These players are optimizing their outcomes in a f*cked up system. It is not that they are f*cking up their outcomes in an optimized system.

this is a classic example as to why we continue to lose out to the tops teams in the region, it’s because the lads are as soft as bird shite, and the reason for that is because in the modern black world experience we are flooded with these anti establishment ideals that offer tons of excuses for failure and push the narrative that “we are victims of a failed system” that is why we can’t excel, so we have to sell drugs to survive, or car jack, or partake in some illicit activity, all because it’s not our fault. well sorry I don’t buy into that.

I remembered just before Steve hart was fired some of his players were breaking camp, it was just around that time that the teams started nose diving even losing out on three chances to make it to the copa america centennial with a string of loses giving the fat boss the fuel to fire SH. then players like jovin, bateau and the rest of the first team were ducking their duty to rep the country and in the end we lost out on a spot to the gold cup to haiti.

I say all this to say that in today’s world there are too many bloody excuses for failure. I would like to know what is the difference between the era of latapy, Clint marcel, Leonson lewis and Dwight yorke to name a few, as compared with the lads today?

Those guy didn’t have good gear or even a ride to go to games but instead took public transportation or walked to venues, some even borrowed a friend’s tugs on match day, in fact some of them would be lucky to have even owned a ball, and if they did they would have cherished it with care, yet they put in the work and excel these kids that have everything at their disposal but could barely make a proper splitting pass.

I am friends with a few guys that went to high school with latapy, and they said latapy lived with a ball at his feet even more so than his school books. at breaks he would be practicing doing drills working on his first touch doing keep ups and everything imaginable, I also heard this about dwight where he would spend hours practicing and this is not rocket science, because the lads who didn’t put in the work never went anywhere with football.

the same system Jamal and company came up with is the same lazy shabby system that produced Dwight and russell, in fact Jamal and company had a pro league that paid them to play football where they had access to better coaching as well as better facilities to excel. so I’m not buying into to that fancy talk about systems and situations, the bottom line is that these guys don’t give a damn about excellence, they do the bare minimum and are surprised when they fail. how do you expect to do the very least and expect to be successful? that’s ludicrous.

Brodda, two separate things. NOTHING I mentioned dealt with the passive view of them being victims. Victimology is quite different from acknowledging the consequences and linkages of systematic acts.

The way you have responded is akin to a common mistake negators make when engaged about the vestiges of systematic enslavement. It is important to distinguish between symptoms and causes. Those who deny the legacy of enslavement do not connect all the dots of the impressive mental machinery that superseded the physical chains. Straight line analysis does not paint the full picture.

Also, underachievement does not equate to victimology. And what I am contending is that it is easy to overlook or easy to not be able to locate a player's overachievement in a failed system. It is not that we have not had a Premier League quality player since our last one or that we have not had a Serie A or B quality player, it is that not having a straight and flat track ( for even a brief spell) has had an impact on reality.

Doh believe that these players are not ball crazy. For instance, I could tell you that there are some crazedballers who would have been on our Olympic team if we had one. Those fellahs are true VICTIMS, but their future success has to be engaged not locked in that narrative but in whatever success they produce or fail to produce outside of that narrative, without ignoring its effects. But even within that, our dependence on regional competitions for exposure as opposed to consistent cyclical development is a systemic flaw.

And my comments are really focused on club football not on NT football. Being able to access a good club and engage with one's craft as a pro is fundamental to outcomes at NT level.

As it stands, Bateau may have overachieved even if his growth stalled. Optimally where should Jomal be?

There you go again mate with the excuses mate. I made one simple example in regards to latapy yorke and Lewis where these guys were savannah ballers who ran to and from practice, in case you don’t know latapy came up under jah jah and Wayne lewis two small time savanah coaches, yet these latapy flew high, and not because he was special or he privileged to receive special coaching, no, he simply put in the extra work.

I believe if any of our present national players were ball hounds we would have been in a batter place, in fact I believe they are the opposite. they are spoiled babies that’s why hart struggled so much with them. even kenwin was complaining how they never wanted to put in the extra work and was a bit frustrated with their antics.

IMO the only ball hound on this present national set up is molino, and it shows in his game.

We know what we know and we doh know what we doh know. You are able to make those comments after those men achieved success.

The moment I became a competitive runner, I used to run to school in the mornings with my uniform, shoes and towel in my backpack and shower at school. By the time my classmates arrived, they had NO idea. According to my quick check of Google Maps (I didn't have the privilege of precise calculation then), I was running 3 miles to school. I did that at 14/15. It was ingrained at 16/17. No one suggested I do it. Who do you think was aware of it when I sailed around the track at the stadium? We know what we know and we doh know what we doh know. And that's what I did in the MORNING.

I could tell you that there are some crazedballers who would have been on our Olympic team if we had one.

Mike Grayson had  told me that there were some good players at the U-23 level, but that time was running out to make a cohesive team out of the bunch. Lo and behold DJW reported that they were not taking part in the Olympic qualifiers. A big fat scheups from me, Breds.

Dunce defending is the root cause of him even getting near the penalty area (1st defender). After that it's pure entertainment punctuated by that drag. I understand why Chalatenango (3-3-3) would defeat Sonsonate (see previous posts, now 0-1-8), but I'm struggling to figure out how they mustered their two other victories. The points table does not reflect it, but Chalatenango are probably not 11 points better than Sonsonate.

Here's a comical example (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DTvvYbdJlc) of how they worked their way to 3 potential points and then erased 2 pts. Time to fly de coop, Jomal.

Determining the winner in El Salvador is like a maze. It's not done as in the Pro League or the Premier League. I think geography and travel influences that, but they also make it challenging by seeding/elimination after round-robin play. Both of the teams progressed to the elimination round, but both suffered losses in different parts of the brackets.

Is it strictly speaking a step down from #1 to #3? Not really.

Team composition is changing drastically either way. His new team won't look they same. Lots of new faces coming in. New coach too (played for Bielsa, was very successful in Mexico as a player, can be a bit gruff at times) ... what I'm trying to get a handle on is whether the coach is inheriting Jomal by default or whether Jomal is one of his handpicked preferences. Should know more shortly.

For some a bird in hand is worth 2 in de bush. For others de 2 in de bush are worth 3 or 4. To get to the 3 or 4, yuh have to go in de bush and hunt. If yuh comfortable, yuh not going to hunt.

In my view, he's made his point in El Salvador. Some weeks ago, I suggested that it was time to ride out. Pursue more challenging football.

The NT needs hunters. Players who are hungry to produce and deliver. Players who are willing to play outside of their skin. This is a Gold Cup year. Hunting season.

The money he is making in El Salvador is what he should be making in a properly functioning Pro League. But, right now the absence of that is a good thing because our players need the experience of these Central American environments.

I'm disappointed to have heard that he had a more competitive league interested in him and he opted to stay in El Salvador. Time will tell whether the bird in hand was actually the gamble and the 2, 3 or 4 in the bush less of a shot in the dark.

not trying to determine who is the winner, just who is the powerhouse. I don’t think it’s them.
There are 5 teams with better records, 4 with similar in a 12 team split league. And the league or national football ain’t no powerhouse either. 6 best record in USL maybe, Costa Rica maybe, Mexico sure, MLS maybe
In rest of Concacaf 6 best record is not powerhouse.

I understood what you were asking. What I've suggested is that it is akin to a Chelsea to Arsenal or vice versa move. I don't like the analogy but there it is reluctantly.

In a flat league the answer as to the powerhouse team is an easier assessment, particulalrly when referencing season upon season. In El Salvador you could rely on tradition and history, but it won't necessarily provide the most accurate picture of how other teams stack up as formats have evolved and bearing in mind there are two seasons during the course of what we traditionally view as one ... anyhow, neither of the teams involved is the answer you're looking for. It would be FAS.

As far as comparing across groups, IMV it is potentially not the best approach because strength of schedule across a geographical format shouldn't be ignored.

In any event, the reason for the format (league and elimination) is to generate excitement and a lack of predictability, even with seedings.

So powerhouse over what period? Titles or consistency? In England, wouldn't you consider both Chelsea and Arsenal as powerhouses?

Has he gone to a competitive club? Yes. Should he have gone to a more competitive league? Yes, but also a personal decision.

More like Chelsea and Bolton, apples and oranges, but both fruit. He can go wherever he likes for whatever reasons he might be aware of. I not vex with him. If he up to that and satisfied with his decisions, I happy too. Just don’t start crying and complaining if there is fallout from those decisions. We can offer a shoulder, but we have other issues and ppl to see about, who also have dreams to fulfill. Deal with your ppl, your families and your agent(s). Things turnout good , we will clap. Not good, we does move on. Such is sport. Everybody remember Bolt but very few can tell you who came 6th. Only those who had a relationship with that individual. Even more so in team sports. Right or wrong ?

Williams racially abused by former club fans.
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian).

The ugly side of the beautiful game of football rose its head on Saturday when T&T international Jomal Williams of Luis Angel Firpo was racially abused by fans of his former club Isidro Metapan during an El Salvador Apertura Primera Division match at Estadio Jorge Calero Suarez, Metapan.

While the defeat dented Williams and Firpo’s push for the top spot as they remained fourth with 29 points from 19 matches, one ahead of Once Deportivo on the 12 team table, 13 points behind leaders Alianza, the match will be remembered more for the insults directed the way of the T&T international.

After the match Williams writing on his own Twitter handle soy_jomalwilliams10 expressed his disgust with the behaviour of the spectators saying: After 3 years of blood sweat and tears in the colors of @adimetapansv tonight hearing all the racist comments from the fans really broke my heart but this is life I’ll move on from here and I’ll always wish them good luck.

The actions of the home fans also caught the attention of Central American Sports presenter Jerry Quijada who wrote on his Twitter handle @ JerryQuidadaTV: Outrageous that "people" yelled "Ape" at Jomal Williams at the Metapan Firpo game, (at his former home). Shameful that these signs of racism still take place in our stadiums, where beyond "breaking hearts" it is a sign of an immature and intolerant society.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes in which five yellow cards were shown the 27-year-old Williams who played for Isidro Metapan during the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons and scored 18 goals in 59 matches, opened the scoring for the visitors in the 65th minute.

The strike by Williams was his 13th goal of the season, to join Duvier Riascos of Alianza as the league's top scorer.

However, Williams, formerly of local club W Connection was also yellow-carded for his exuberant celebrations afterward and eight minutes later, he was issued a second yellow card to leave his team to play out the rest of the match with ten players.

And with five minutes left in the match, Metapan made their man advantage count when Nestor Renderos fired in the equaliser, and two minutes later Denilson Castillo got the go-ahead item to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

There was still time for more twists in the heated encounter with two more red card expulsions, first, Firpo’s Luis Canales, in the 91st minute, quickly followed by Metapan’s Diego Gregori, some seconds later.

Viewed exclusively from footballing grounds, the decision to exclude Jomal Williams from consideration for Player of the Year is a vigorous slap in the face of common sense and the experience of football during the pandemic.

There being no articulation of a compelling reason for his exclusion, implicitly suggests that criteria supporting his exclusion (among others) were deliberately applied.

On its face, indictment welcoming and happily prosecutable bullshit .

Jomal Williams: CD Luis Ángel Firpo's goalscorer
By Diego Josué Tovar (El Gráfico)

Jomal Williams is one of the best players, not only in Luis Ángel Firpo, but in the Salvadoran football leagues, and his continuity in the Clausura 2022 allows fans of the Pamperos to dream of an eleventh championship.

In the Salvadoran Primera División there are players who are outstanding; when they arrive on the pitch they exercise their dominance from the beginning and are the difference makers for their teams.

Jomal Williams is Firpo's star striker, coming into the team in the previous tournament from AD Isidro Metapán. He is not only the top scorer for the Pamperos, but he is also one of the best goalscorers in the entire league.

In the regular season of the Apertura 2021 tournament, the attacker scored 13 goals, three less than the contest's “Golden Boot” winner, Alianza's Colombian striker Duvier Riascos.

Jomal's numbers were not only outstanding, but they allowed Firpo to finish in third place in the table. The Pamperos scored 36 goals during the regular season, 23 from other players on the squad and 13 from the Trinidadian.

Even in the quarterfinals, Jomal did not stop scoring goals. Against Platense, in the first leg, he scored the tying goal in Toledo Valle, and for the return he opened the scoring in favor of the Pamperos, although it was not enough since the Viroleño team ended up eliminating the Usulutecos in Sergio Torres Rivera.

After finishing the tournament, there were rumors that the striker would not continue in Firpo, but the team quickly announced his re-signing, being one of the key movements of the Pamperos, who are committed to fighting for the championship in the Clausura 2022.

Even Jomal Williams feels good playing with the Bulls. His relationship with the technical director, Roberto Gamarra, is good according to the player himself.

"Honestly, Professor Gamarra is the best in the whole country because he has a lot of passion. The teacher is a very good person to me. I feel good, I respect him a lot and vice versa. I will always be happy to play for him, " said the goalscoring Trinidadian.

Yep, good for him and bad for us. He is our most seasoned Central America campaigner and the attacking X factor that would have been valuable to this NL outing. We cyah seem to catch a break regarding his availability.

At least we know he can travel.  :) Gone are the passport issues. Good platform for him vs MLS opposition.

The coach he is working with should be able to help JW fight/deal with/insulate him from ... some of the off-field battles that exist on the ground in El Salvador.

The other team (Xelaju) is a team under renovation. New coach newly returned from Costa Rica, bringing in a ton of players after a dismal showing this past season.

Yuh done know, Central American clubs playing in DC-MD-VA is a money making crowd puller.

Yes, he has joined them for the second time. If you recall, he first joined them at the start of last season, paraded before de media and ting. Then the move collapsed because of documentation issues, most likely passport related.

... and spending good $ there.

When will that be happening in T&T? A football economy not rooted on a fake economy.

Ah sure someone will interpret that to be a reference to the national economy, but ... THINK.

Jomal Williams made an eventful debut for Once Deportivo on the opening day of the Salvadoran Primera División Clausura 2023 tournament. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw with CD FAS, but picked up a second yellow card for his excessive goal celebration which resulted in him being given his marching orders.

I agree that he has not distinguished himself at national level, but he has not been called up since Lawrence got sacked, and until Levi started mashing up this season, Jomal has been the only one really scoring at club level. Meanwhile there are players who are on the national team, not distinguishing themselves, and at the same time not playing professionally. Men not even attached to ah club. Just doh make sense to me.
