Title: 4-4-2 and the flat back four
Post by: coache on March 26, 2013, 10:35:16 AM
This European system adopted by Shabazz has never been successfully implemented in Trinidad except under Beenhaaker. We all know Beenhaaker played a system of football that was purely one dimensional (everybody behind the ball and take no risks).
So if nobody else had success in the past why now? It doesn't really matter to me what system is played as long as there is a clear plan in place to make the necessary adjustments to the dynamic changes which occur during a match. We must be prepared to play without the ball as well as be purposeful and goal oriented with the ball.
This flat 4-4-2 is not looking comfortable for the players..the forwards are not getting close support from the midfield in attack and the back four is not getting the required pressure on the ball from the midfield on defence.
The midfield lack cohesiveness because they are not in close support of each other.
Now 4-4-2 is a nice formation and I would still go with it but instead of the linear formation I would go with 2 diamonds and number the players 1 thru 11.
Back in the 1800s wars were fought  with soldiers lined up in rows which made them easy targets for cannon fire. The U.S Army fought the Indians using the same tactics to no avail for more than twenty years the Army couldn't get the upperhand ...it was not until that Indians themselves who served with the Army taught the Army how to employ the various tactics that Indians used, then and only then the Indians were defeated.
Many of those same fighting tactics formed  basis of fighting in  modern warfare almost all of special ops/forces  are taken out of the pages of  the Indian wars.

there is no way in hell we should be playing 4-4-2 we look much more effective 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 is especially disadvantagous if we use static mids like densil, it would be better to stagger d strikers and play somting closer to 4-4-1-1  and give denzil someting CLOSER and EASY to aim for, glen still have a little toes and could dribble so let him play dat linkin role behind kenwin.......it unfortunate dat Shabazz one demensional nonsense being imposed on d team.

We don't have midfielders to play 2 in the central midfield and we don't have the type of players to play a diamond midfield as our fullbacks are not as dynamic going forward and normally require a great amount of cover defensively.

Elan I would like to ask what is Theobald, Birchall and Daniel doing in the midfield and where is the defensive cover taking place on this team right now?
