Title: Gillingham win promotion to third tier
Post by: Football supporter on April 06, 2013, 04:48:51 PM
Sorry, guys, but this is obviously big news for me!!

With 3 games remaining, Gillingham have amassed enough points to guarantee promotion to League 1 after 3 seasons in the basement.

With 3 games remaining, if they win away to 4th place Cheltenham next Saturday, they could be crowned champions at home to 21st place AFC Wimbledon on Saturday 20th April. Port Vale trail by 8 points with a game in hand.

Martin Allens's side have won 23 out of 43 games and drawn another 13 games, losing only 7 times this season.

Come on you Gills!!!

Yeah well done to Mad Dog and Jamaica's Deon Burton who is their second top scorer behind Danny Kedwell.

Although I preferred Peter Taylor in many ways (not least as a person to work with), I think Pulis was, and still is, an excellent Championship/League 1 manager. But I think his tactical nouse is a little too basic for the EPL. But I'd like to see him back at Priestfield.

Title: Jack & Gills!!! Gillingham win League 2 title!!
Post by: Football supporter on April 21, 2013, 09:12:54 PM
Gillingham clinched the npower League Two title despite surrendering a two-goal lead to AFC Wimbledon.

The already-promoted Gills drew 2-2 to seal their first silverware since 1964 after they claimed the point they needed at home.

Deon Burton and Danny Kedwell gave the newly-crowned champions a 2-0 lead at home over struggling Wimbledon, who hauled themselves level through Jack Midson and Jon Meades.

Port Vale have all-but joined Gillingham in celebrating their promotion after Lee Collins' late own goal for Northampton saw Vale draw their game 2-2.

What a weekend....Gills get promoted and Jack gets demoted!!
