Feel free to correct or add anything to the list.

John Ramses-Thomas, Flex? Isn't he the starting goalkeeper for Wayland Baptist U. in the U.S.?
Thanks for the lineups though. You did good, but where are the rest of the teams, my brother.
Yo, FS. Is that your midfield? Who you planning on beating with that midfield? Who is your playmaker? You are not scaring anybody with that lineup dude.
-
great thread
there seems to be a massive fall out of pro league players dropping down a level.. to many names to mention but why isnt there a thirst to play at the highest level in this country?

Soon as you send them to me I will gladly add them in... ;D
Nah, seriously, try getting info from most clubs in T&T and see what kind of respond you get.
As for John Ramses-Thomas, I guess he has graduated, same with Javaughn Vance who plays for FC Santa Rosa now. ??

Well, one could argue that if there wasn't quite as many foreign imports, these lads would get a contract.

Well, one could argue that Mitchell and Marcano could be making up the SNT midfield this year. And, of course, it's impossible to play Trim, Quintero, Dillon, Winchester and Gabriel as strikers at one time, so you could have something like:
Quintero
Winchester Trim Marcano
Mitchell
Oliver
Goodridge Jack Charles Harris
Williams
Dillon
Gabriel
Sam
Pope
Peltier
Not too shabby, I feel.

but isnt it more difficult for a club to employ a foreign player ie work permits housings etc
apart from a few standouts pollard velox etc i hardly ever see caribbean based players that are head and shoulders above our own
is there a different hunger or level of professionalism that we do not see from the outside?

Personally, I feel that foreign players usually have a better mental attitude and their sense of professionalism is sometimes better. However, it does appear that many will come to play for the same or less than local players. Usually, clubs will have an apartment where they can house players so accommodation is not usually a factor.
Work permits are fairly easy to obtain. There are no barriers to overseas players such as they must be internationals etc.
As I've said before, I have no problem with foreign players in the ProLeague as long as they bring something to the game. My issue is the NUMBER of foreign players. There should be some criteria in place for the benefit of local players.

i believe there was once a fail safe for foreigners then it was removed then put back then removed ............ i just strongly feel that our national teams will only grow with more local pros in the pro league

its disturbing that that are so few players from the U-20 and virtually none from the U-17 that beat Costa Rica. I like my WConnection, but 14 foreign players boy? They have to do better than that. I hope they get some good cutass this season

so Marvin gone from Central and Jan came in..look ting.

I feel compelled to respond to this thread in as much as the knocking of W Connection ref their foreign players by some posters. I too had my concerns and thus spoke to the management of W Connection about this and was informed of the following.
1. This past season (2012/2013) eight local players reneged on their contracts, two were dismissed for disciplinary reasons and one had a successful move to Europe, so the team lost eleven players.
2. As a result of this they finished the season with a bare 20 players and in light of the fact that they had to play Concacaf and to compete in the 2013/2014 pro league season they had no choice but to strengthen the team. When asked about the U17 & U20 players, I was informed that the few quality ones available at least 50% opt to further themselves by accepting scholarships to the USA etc whilst the other 50% not all desire a career in professional football and the few who so desire there is a lot of competition amongst the pro league teams for them. This therefore left them with no choice but to look outside.
3. The majority of the foreign players were with the team last season, Gerrard Williams, Alejandro Figueroa & Christian Viveros have been long time members of the TT Proleague. Figueroa having played for Jabloteh, Joe Public & Ma Pau. Kurt Frederick, Tremain Shayne Paul, Julani Archibald, Devaughn Elliott & Stefano Rijssel were all part of the team for the 2012/2013 season.

So what is the purpose of the Reserve, Under 20 and Under 17 league? So if W Connection and Caledonia lost their youth players who will the use in the reserve league.
Dont each club have youth players they can draw from?
W Connection have 14 foreign players on their team, thats a lot. How are they helping T&T football and why is the government subsidizing them to a point?
Same for Caledonia who buying players from Guyana, are they really better than what we have in T&T ? Guyana is not even a football nation, and yet Shabazz does bawl he love Laventille and helping the community.
Even Central with their small budget went all local. I not saying we dont need foreign players but decent ones nah.
The Brazilian guy W Connection bought made real mistakes vs that Panama side.

It may be the case that this season Connection had a need to fill spaces with foreign players. However they have a history of having proportionally more foreign players than other teams. When Shabazz was running Cali and Guyana it was the same thing, albeit he eat food from two plates. I don't blame Connection, if you want to compete with the best in CONCACAF you have have the most competitive team possible. The league might want to institute more productive policies to benefit teams like Rangers that nurture talent. I have no beef with foreign players, coaches or administrators. Overall they make our league much better. But like most Trinbagonians I want to see our own players competing well too.
Its a shame to see that youth don't see a future in football.
-
The league probably has to put policies in place to ensure that locals are given priority as much as possible. In the earlier incarnation of the pro league Connection started with a heavy roster of foreign players, Jack Warner then put a restriction on the number of foreign players but he later reversed it.
The current pro league has a rule that you must have a certain #(not sure of the figure) of youth players playing on the Reserve team.
Connection currently has a good all local youth system with some really good local players and once they decide to continue with a football career then T&T has a good future ahead, but then again three of their star players will be going on scholarship this coming September.
Now in all honesty do you believe that these players after obtaining their degrees will want to come back to the pro league to earn a salary of between TT$3000.00 & TT$8000.00 when they can make double or triple that amount in the private sector.
My humble opinion is that the current youth players are the ones we should be looking forward to but then again with all the different distractions a lot of these youth players may opt out of playing football and the state of affairs as is, definitely makes that decision easy for them.
-
We once had a discussion on why Indo and White Trinis don't play football after high school, or at least pro-football. Well, because they have other options that is more lucrative than football. Lets say by some hocus-pocus, the league salary jump to 10 thousand a week, every Shaq, Tom, Dick, Chin and Harrilal will be out there. But then, there are guys who have been player for over 10 years, Marvin Oliver, Toussaint, Jan, the Wolf brothers and some more that I can't remember.
-
Central wanted to sign two or three of our U17's but they wanted to play school football. One of these guys has probably missed his chance to go to England because he will be too old next year. And I know for a fact that he won't be attending lessons. He just wants to be a school football star. I can understand a 14 or 15 year old with that attitude, but it's a real negative attitude, career wise, for a 17 year old.

That is a big problem for football, and few decision-makers seem concerned. Seeing Leston Paul playing for a super-league team is a good example. IMO creative solutions to these issues are well beyond the capability of Dexter Skeene and the current Pro-League Brass

On further investigation, has any one checked W Connection's list of players who attended their pre season camp in Colombia. It included 7 local teenage players, three of whom Alvin Jones, Jomal Williams & Neil Benjamin represented the national U20 team and are also regulars on W Connection senior team. Matthew Woo Ling & Jabari Mitchell also represented the national U17 team and have also played for the W Connection Senior team.
All of Connection's local players have been or are current members of the national senior, U17 & U20 teams.
So pray tell me what was expected of Connection after losing 11 players, 8 reneging on their contracts, (I notice that of all the persons who have responded no one has commented on this) plus releasing 2 for disciplinary reasons & 1 for greener pastures what should they have done. Incidentally regarding the 8 who reneged on their contracts no action was taken against them, which Connection was within their rights to so do, but bet your life if they had, a lot of you posters would be decrying & denigrating them.
Check out Club Sando's roster & tell me how many of them were previously on Connection's roster and is it any wonder that they are doing so well in the Super League.
Where was everyone who are now down crying Connection in 2011/12 when they won the Pro League title with an almost totally local team with an average age of 21 years and played most of that season with seven of their starters away on National duty with the U23 team. No one has even suggested that maybe it is that a lot of the local players cannot cope or deal with W Connection’s strict discipline as it relates to professional football. Despite all the criticism Connection has been the most successful team in all of football in Trinidad and Tobago over the past 13 years both at youth and senior levels. And that is fact not fiction. They have been the most successful team regionally (Caribbean) and have played at the Concacaf level more times than all the Caribbean teams put together over the past 13 years. But then I must remember my mother always told me. “People only pelt stones at trees that bear fruit”
-
Soccerama, Central F.C. released the same number of players in December for similar reasons. We then decided not to renew contracts on another dozen or so at the end of the season. We have signed mostly players under 23. Maybe we won't win the league this season, but I'm sure we will be competitive and I feel confident that several of these players will be capped.
I don't believe anybody is disputing W.Connections record. But having around 50% of your squad from overseas is a little excessive (although I believe they have around 40 players actually on their roster)
I think what shocks people the most is that, as you pointed out, they have an excellent record of developing talent.

Relax nah man, no need for all that melodrama because men criticizing yuh team. Connection should be no more immune to criticism than any other team. Once people like yourself who have personal knowledge present the other side of the argument then its cool. No haters in the discussion brother, just remember the motto of the site is 'talk yuh talk'. :beermug:

I'm cool bro, no hard feelings. I went straight to the horse & got the info from the horse's mouth. I suggest that Flex interview John Williams about this whole foreign players controversy.

That would go a long to help the fans understand the club's situation. I always liked Connection despite the foreign players issue because they are routinely field the strongest team in the Caribbean. I'll never forget that Seabra volley to upset Chivas. Their short passing game is the best in the league. But I eh go cry if Cental FC buss allyuh tail this rounds

This is why St Ann's Rangers won the 2013 Oasis Youth Pro League Under-15 and Under-17 leagues and they was able to get a US$75,000 sponsorship deal with Plusone Fashion out of America.
W Connection sign Stefano Russell from Suriname two years now and has scored 4 maybe 5 goals since.
Jerrel Britto is a big disappointment. This is why Andrei Pacheco have to play the striker role.
Jomal Williams head not right.
And the rest of the team is foreigners who will not gel in time to win anything this season.
Sad.
-
I think W Connection loaned out Yhon Stiven Reyes Lopez (Colombia) to North East Stars and Andrei Pacheco to Point.
Caledonia also lost Trevin Caesar and Aquil Selby to North East Stars.
-
Westside Superstarz sell out all they good players. Qian Grosvenor, Kern Caesar and Kerron Cummings gone St Anns Rangers and Stefan Berkeley to North East Stars.
They either get some decent money or they stupid.
-
Striker Kithson Anthony Bain (Grenada) joins Cali.

Yeah, the same.
In some match reports from Wired868 I saw an Akil DeFreitus on the bench in the previous games...was that a different Akil considering Lasana had TUS in his last name ?
Or was it just a typo and Akil De Freitas joined up with you guys a bit ago ?

Has anyone got an updated list for these teams? And more specific positions, e.g. left-sided, right-sided, AMC etc.
-
FYI..
St Anns Rangers forward Michael Yaw Darko is from Ghana and Kennedy Isles is from St Kitts & Nevis.

Yea I've known about Darko for a while - I think he was playing initially in the minor leagues is he here for a degree or something? Also the Express said he was Ghanaian, which seems an error as I've always seen him referred to as Nigerian
