Better quality...yeah, travel would be tougher on the boys, but I think this should be the format. Forget about rivalries; the objective is to raise the standard of the league.

Why?
In my day that's the way it was. They passed and some got scholarships.
Nobody does criticize the cricket league. And those games does take two days to play. Fatima used to have to go to places like Barrackport and Sanfernando - and they passed their exams - except Lara. ;D

I'm pretty sure Woo Ling went to Fatima.
The Principal axed him from the team last year because he wasn't in school for about 7 months. The yute was on trial during the previous 12 months with teams like ARsenal, Tottenham and one or two in Italy. Is not like he break beesh. Anyway the Coach quite the team one time.
I can only assume he didn't get his passes.

vb --- You're quite right. I remember in the 1980s they use to call it the 'Championship league' (or something like that). The 2nd tier teams in each zones were called 'Senior Teams', and they would try to qualify for the Championship league.
I believe that the teams that finished in the bottom 2-3 spots in the Championship league in each zone would be relegated to the Senior leagues the following year.
Anyway, the teams in the Championship leagues in each zone would battle each other during the regular course of the season in the zonal matches, with the winner of each of the four zones (South, North, East, and Tobago) making the final 4, vying for the Intercol Title.
The changes in 2014 though similar in format to the 1980s in terms of the addition of relegation, is a bit different from the 1980s since this new format will have regular season clashes between teams regardless of zones. In the 1980s, even with the 2-tier league system, the regular season clashes were played within each zone.

the championship division was the same as the zonal division we currently have and the last place team was relegated to the senior grade division (by zone) as is being done right now. the 2014 proposed premier division was not around in the 1980s.

Banter,
you are correct. But you cannot underestimate people's passion and love for what they are connected to.
There are some Div 2 clubs in England that easilly get over 20 000 at a game. I was told this by some British fellas when I was in Afghanistan. One fella (forget the name of the club now but a few Trinis play for it) say his club was around div. 2 at the time, built a state of the art stadium on the outskirts of London when the town is and 40 000 at games was no problem for them.
Before the 2006 WC Shaka said amongst his best football memories was playing for saints in the CFL just because of the atmosphere and this was a Premiership footballer speaking.
Yes you right. But when there is a passion connected to your school the kind that can EMBARRASS the PFl in terms of attendance - these things will happen. These guys need to study, waste less time with the lesser teams and let the best play the best. Meet the minnows in intercol.
I cool with the best playing the best. I wasn't cool with Sando and JohnD practically forming professional youth teams. They was overdoing it.

The problem, with my limited experience of school football, is that the whole philosophy and structure of school football is determining the standard of football in the ProLeague and the national team.
On countless occasions, posters here laud the youth academies at Barca or Real or Man U without recognising that those time consuming and expensive programmes are what's missing in T&T.
I have no problem with youngsters playing school football. To me, it's an absolute must.
However, once students reach 16, if they are talented, they should enter professional football. Now, there are provisos. If the student genuinely wants to pursue their education, then an overseas scholarship should be sought. Or maybe you could still have a watered down under 17 competition?
Next, the school football season should last much longer. Yes, I know schools want to play cricket, but there is no reason why football can't take place on Friday evenings and cricket on Saturdays.
Next, any student over the age of 16 who wants to return to school to play football, must attend a minimum 75% of classes. (I know of several top players who play school football, but do not attend classes.) There should also be a measure of players' grades to determine if schools are recruiting players without focusing on their education.I have seen with my own eyes talented players between 16-19 playing school football for 3 months rather than play professional football. Why is this a problem? Those three years are where raw talent turns into professionalism. I don't believe schools deliver anywhere near the same standard of coaching as professional clubs. Basics like keeping shape, tracking back, running off the ball, defensive responsibilities of strikers, attacking responsibilities of defenders etc
I can state that a guy who was Intercol top scorer for two consecutive seasons, when he turned professional had the shock of his life. The game is faster, more physical, more concentration is needed, more discipline. The training is much harder and intensive. Life away from the training field is more disciplined. Football against schoolkids is nothing like football against seasoned professional men.
I would be interested to know how many of T&T's top players in the last 10 years came through Intercol. I would love to know that statistic.
If only we could nurture this talent at 14, develop it from 16, by age 18 we'd have fast, strong youthmen knocking on Stephen Harts door.
Now I don't necessarily blame schools for this situation. I've spoken to players who, I know, could get contracts in UK if they play half a dozen ProLeague games before age 17. It appears that Intercol is more glamorous and less hard work than professional football. The fame, the girls, the easy life. But these are just kids. Someone needs to explain that once they reach 19, many of them will not be good enough to earn a living from football, certainly not overseas. They're throwing away what could be their only chance of a decent career.
Imagine if everywhere was the same. Perhaps there would be no Messi, no Rooney, no Walcott. Or more to the point, maybe T&T would have had their own Walcott or another Yorke, Stern John, Kenwyne Jones, Sancho or Kelvin Jack ??
Deeks, yuh mean the ProLeague should do what the schools should be doing.....educate?
If you have your own school you can dictate what they do. You have total supervision over the youth. You probably interact much better with the parent(s). Time utilization is critical at this stage, and the clubs education specialist will be there to keep on top of them.

Exactly. An academy has to be residential. You have to isolate them from the culture on the streets. What they eat, what they watch. It sounds harsh, but that's what is needed.

Southman, u hav something against Central ???. It makes perfect sense. It is called integration.
Who is credited with originating the "Green Machine" name?
OutsideMan,
I think the scene is Naps planned to use Mannie Ramjohn as home ground but due to issue with that field they have to play elsewhere. but still strange that they end up at Ato Boldon stadium. you would expect them to use skinner park or guaracara unless those grounds are unavailable today.
Play the game at Pres. ground.
i thought the pres game today was in guaracara? they draw 0-0
The school field in Pres itself is way to small for intercol. As cooper told the team right before the season opened, if they cud play on that crap field they cud play anywhere
Play the game at Pres. ground.
Deeks --- Tru' talk. Unless the field wasn't ready, 'Union Hall' is where the game should've been played.
But if I remember correctly, the other grounds right there on the school compound is not big enough for Intercol football...it's more for for inter-class matches, schools under-14 football matches, and schools under-16 football matches. At least that's how it was in my time.

They should implement a zonal all star competition..this would be good to combine the best talent from each zone.
I know that when the junior sec schools became five year schools that some school names would have been redundant. But there had to be a better solution to the renaming of the schools instead of just adding east, west.north and south. I have no idea which Eldo school was Blue Thunder or which Diego school is in ssfl?

Plenty "whipping" and "thrashing" going on in the preceding report. It's girls' school ball, spare a thought nah man.
Express, at some point it would probably help to put the various programs in context and compare/and investigate how they stack up in terms of resources. It probably doesn't merely start on the field. Who knows? Yuh readership might end up with an interesting article.
The other day, the Guardian ran a piece about SAGHS and its schol winners, but cast that against infrastructural challenges such as antiquated lab space, bandwidth issues that went with everyone having a laptop, and a host of other issues. That was SAGHS ... others toiling in the Dark Ages?

1978/79 a piece of art (some sort of machine) was created by some students, I believe Anthony Gray, Matamorrow and others from the team were involved. It was painted green and hence we have the green machine.

The teams were scheduled to kick-off at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, but upon their arrival, they were greeted with an ongoing ‘‘family day’’.
Team officials opted to head to Gilbert Park to attempt the match but there was no official lines to border the football field.
They tried another grounds in the area, only to be turned away by practicing clubs. This is the third game that Couva have been forced to reschedule.

If we are honest, the title came down to the head to head between Caps and Chag North, rather than on who prevailed comparatively in trouncing Vishnu Boys ... if you can score 18 and still find yourself reliant on goal difference to put you over the top, you're not my champion.

Saints into Big 5 final
Green Machine lose for the first time this season...
By Ian Prescott (Express).
St Augustine Secondary boys lost their first match of the season but only beaten 6-5 on sudden-death penalty kicks.
This, after yesterdays BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Big Five semi-final match-up against St Marys College ended in a 0-0 draw yesterday evening at Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.
Yesterdays semi was tame by any standard. The first half ended without any of the goals promised by Saints coach Jason Edwards a day earlier, and without much action, as play took place mainly in the middle of the park.
However, the North champions St Marys could still boast of having the two best chances of the half, both turned wide by striker Chinua Bernard in quick succession, half hour into the match. St Augustine keeper Romario Romain also had a nervous situation just before the half ended when taking a looping ball just before it entered his goal.
St Augustine offered little going forward in the first half, but could have been ahead early when a St Marys college defender stuck out a leg and almost turned the ball past keeper Christian Attong.
Facing a better organised team, St Augustine changed tactics and began looking better in the second half. The Green Machine defended in numbers and also had solid work from centre-back Makesi Quashie.
They also tried to catch the Saint up field when counter attacking with pace, and using the speed of national youth players Aikim Andrews and Akeem Garcia.
St Augustine almost had something to shout about in the 65th when striker Ricardo John isolated himself with keeper Attong by stealing the ball, when one of the Saint players over indulged.
John attempted to go around Attong, but the very capable Saint keeper did remarkably well to grab the ball. The very tall John again found himself racing towards Attong when the ball was kicked long into the CIC half, but Attong got to there first.
7th heaven for St Augustine girls
By Ian Prescott (Express).
North champs Bishop’s Anstey High School Port of Spain were no match for St Augustine Secondary, who got a first half hat-trick from Laurelle Theodore to win their one-sided BGT&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls’ “Big-Four” semi-final 7-0 yesterday at Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.
On Monday, St Augustine will meet newly-crowned South league champions Fyzabad Secondary, who advanced to the final with a 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Tobago winners Bishop’s High School, following a 0-0 draw in the opening semi-final on Monday.
Striker Theodore was a terror and netted a total four goals yesterday, before she was substitute in the 69th with the match already well wrapped up. The contest was essentially over by the end of the first half with the “Green Machine” leading by four unanswered goals.
Theodore completed the hat-trick by end of the first half, the best of her three goals saw her race past her marker in the box, before putting the ball low past Bishop’s ‘keeper Whitney Griffith for St Augustine’s fourth goal in the 37th minute. Theodore opened the scoring in the 17th, and also put in a free-kick with her knee for her second in the 30th. Ana Williams also netted for Gustine in the 22nd to make the score 2-0 at that stage.
St Augustine kept up the pressure in the second half, but Bishop’s put up a better fight. Theodore eventually broke them again with her fourth goal in the 61st, when beating the Griffith to the ball.
With Theodore off, St Augustine did not have quite the same bite up front, but still got two more goals, as Bishop’s also gave their second goalie a run. Ke’die Johnson headed in a corner-kick in the 73rd to make it 6-0 and Niaomee Guerra beat the substitute Bishop’s keeper Rowaldo James from long range for a seventh in the 80th minute.

that would be horrible... Hasley Crawford should be the venue for a massive final like this... at least in a stadium, to go and put it on some bad grass field with poor seating for fans...hope that is not true

The latest I've heard is Ato Boldon. Still awaiting some official word or news release.
Contacted for comment, Chaguanas North coach Nicholas Griffith said he felt the schools was suffering from victimization, by officials from the SSFL, who are also employed at Carapichaima East.
I understand that complaint but considering what went down with the school and these players don't you think they are justified with the decisions they made?what you think they should have done or what was the best way to solve this issue?Contacted for comment, Chaguanas North coach Nicholas Griffith said he felt the schools was suffering from victimization, by officials from the SSFL, who are also employed at Carapichaima East.

From another report (http://presfootball.com/news/pres-capture-national-big-5.html):
...in the 85th minute, a miskicked lob ball saw the CIC goal-keeper catching the pass on the goal-line and then unfortunately stepping over with the ball into his goal. As the assistant referee signaled for goal, Shackiel Henry bumped into the CIC keeper, giving the impression that he fouled and pushed the St. Mary’s custodian into the goal.

Angel Williams, who was later adjudged as the Player of the Match, had a good effort in the 42nd, but his right-footer, from outside the penalty area, narrowly missed the target. The team won its first national league title, while CIC’s drought for the same trophy will extend to 23 years.
This is Presentation's third National League title. It was previously won in 1986 and 1974.

Q: Who reffed the game? He went from 0-60 quick.
Tell Shaka de ref also give CIC a penalty or else they might not have score.
Shaka should be quiet. He collected 4 of the best from Pres in the 1986 national intercol semis.
Anyway, congrats to the Pres team and staff. Long overdue win.

CLEAR GOAL. The linesman made a VERY GOOD call. The keeper was clearly in the goal before he got hit...and the hit was not a foul on the keeper, since both players had a play on the ball.
I'm not being biased here on behalf of Pres...but this is one of the most impressive calls by a T&T football match official.

How you see that is a clear goal?
The keeper being in the goal does not constitute a goal.
They did not both have a play on the ball. The keeper got hit while still in the air. After the ball was in the keeper's hand then the player pushed the keeper further into the goal. That's a foul. Terrible calls all the way around. Immediately upon the hit by the player on the keeper, the referee should have blown his whistle and signaled for a free kick. He needed to make his intent clear.
Creed son playing for Fatima... None of the refs like the CIC coaching staff as they are always a tad explosive and arrogant since they joined in 2007....but I really hope Creed etc understand the reaction...It was a harsh call to lose the biggest School game and he had the right to tell the referee off... a fine and a one or two game ban will suffice.
Secondly I hope Creed will look at the Police Officer who went in over the top with his force and pushed a bunch of CIC players excessively when they were asking the referee post game why he blew after 3 minutes and not the 5 minutes which were supposed to be given as extra time.
This coward f**k of a Police Officer pulled out his baton and swung at any player close to the referee and he should be suspended .
Harris the ref should get demoted too... Only in Trinidad refs can have a bias and do shit and not pay for their actions...If this was England he would be demoted to a lower league or suspended.
He and his assistants will probably get the National Intercol final ::)

@ elan --- The replay in the provided link CLEARLY shows that the ball crossed the line.
In-fact, the goal was scored by the fella who crossed the ball. Any contact with the keeper was after the fact, incidental, and a clear non-foul. Truth be told, a case could be made that the keeper fouled Henry, if you guys want to bring-up 'contact' being a foul.
All-in-all, the match officials made a brilliant call. Take your losses like gentlemen and move-on.

It was a harsh call...especially at that stage of the game. But harsh doesn't mean unfair. It was a goal. I only just looked at the footage and hearing all the comments before seeing it, I thought there was a big barge or push on the keeper....but there wasn't. Tough luck....and a poor decision by the keeper as well....
Plenty saints men totin real feelings over dis dung heap football sah
But all ole talk aside....it's actually encouraging that schools football can still arouse these kinda passions. It means all isn't lost and there IS something there to work with.
You doh fedup talk shit? Players have no business crowding the ref... that shit needs to stop on all levels, all the way up the the Premier League. Bad example set by the CIC coaching staff and the players just fed off of that. Coupled with the fact that there was no one on the sideline to control them. Police do the right thing.

It is not the job of the TT Police to fix all of football's discipline problems. The police officer's action was similar to trying to out a fire with gasoline. It is easy to be overly critical when it is not your blood, sweat and emotion invested. I agree that at least one of the coaching staff should have attempted to remove the boys from surrounding the referee, but that does not excuse the inflammatory manner in which the police dealt with that situation. Using aggression and intimidation to stop aggression and intimidation? I'm sure we can come up with something better.
So everybody from CIC is big man family? That attitude is a big reason why over de years a lot of good players have not been around the national teams, and every national youth coach came in and selected his crew. Everything have to be seen with a dotish bias in we country? Clearly stated that the ref had a recent history of bad performances and get marked down, but Coop's wanna compare it to punishment meted out to big man family. Time to get over da village vs city kinda dotish mentalityThis is not a village vs City mentality,i'm sure u don't live here, this is a T&T mentality, this is life in T&T,every thing we do from government to the small man in the street you will find it,it's a means of getting bye,you better wake up Breds.
This development is quite interesting, the Referee was not banned but was removed from the FIFA list of T&T Reeferees for questionable performances, but the St Mary's Coach and his staff who created/caused this whole scenario just apologised and they continue to play Football.
Why is it because is some big man family we can't make proper decisions,i'm sure Jason Edwards is related to somebody too, don't worry we sure to hear of more incidents like this,if this was schools like Malik,SanJuan etc the outcome would be different, you hear how they call it Big 5 Spectacle.
So what happen,Tim Kee and Sheldon Phillips did not know that?i guess is JW fault,he gone and alyu still calling his name. This development is quite interesting, the Referee was not banned but was removed from the FIFA list of T&T Reeferees for questionable performances, but the St Mary's Coach and his staff who created/caused this whole scenario just apologised and they continue to play Football.

Coops, welcome to T&T, thats the mentality of people in Trinidad, from de top to de bottom, Jack Warner is a typical Trini who tried to show the world how Trinis really are. Corrupted, disorganized and greedy.
In T&T anything can happen and is a slap on de risk.
This ref was drop by FIFA and he is here referring.
Still baffled how big men who we can assume are football fans on here can actually say without a doubt that that goal vs CIC was a fair call and the replay shows it clearly!
Only reasoning there is that those peeps are Presentation fans or serious anti-CIC fellas
I cant support CIC at all being that i went Fatima but that call was utter toots and the replay def. does not show conclusive evidence that the ball crossed the line.
It does show that the striker "try a ting" and bumped into the keeper. So that is def. a foul ont he striker
That whole scn after...how the hell ppl could try to defend coach and players there??
As any law-abiding citizen, how is it right in any way to rush into a police officer? Firstly, it's just a football game. It doesnt warrant that kinda assness
And it's a police officer, he has every right to push u away if u get in his face. This isnt someone u can oppose on the side of the street, he doing his wok
Pres cops Big-Five title, St Augustine takes girls’ equivalent.
By Andrew ...Gioannetti (Guardian).
...and while no appeals were seen from the Presentation College players for a goal as Attong seemed to be on his line, the referee took a look across to his assistant, who instead of awarding Attong a foul, judged the event as an own-goal.
Yuh can't rely on the reaction of the players, none of them was on the line to see the position of the ball relative to the goal line. Hard for me to be critical of the ref, unless I'm mistaken, he consulted his assistant who indicated that the ball had crossed the line. Nobody who has commented yet, whether here or on FB has said anything with respect to the position of the assistant, all focus has been on the ref.If you look at the AR, he immediately sprinted up the line which instantly signalled to the referee that it was a goal. Now whether or not the AR was in position is another story but I believe that is why the ref called it a goal.
I had to go back to the original article and check:Pres cops Big-Five title, St Augustine takes girls equivalent.

Why were the St. Mary's players, coaches and now the fans so focused on the ref? Anybody have reason to think the assistant was out of position? Or have evidence to show that he made the wrong call? If not then is time to stop the noise and move on.
As for Brathwaite's article, I don't agree with everything he says, but I can't argue with his thesis that the break down in discipline and respect for authority that we seeing in society is starting to manifest itself on the sporting field as well, at least in this instance. I fully agree with his call for a tough stance so that this is arrested early before it further takes root.
If you look at the AR, he immediately sprinted up the line which instantly signalled to the referee that it was a goal. Now whether or not the AR was in position is another story but I believe that is why the ref called it a goal.
Certainly, he had to in this case. For a ref to call that would be pretty bad... Brazil v Spain 82 or 86? Either way, when a goal is scored the AR is supposed to sprint up the line... that signifies goal....If you look at the AR, he immediately sprinted up the line which instantly signalled to the referee that it was a goal. Now whether or not the AR was in position is another story but I believe that is why the ref called it a goal.
Absolutely... he relied on his assistant.

Fatima unfazed as Speyside cruises into InterCol semis.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).
Inspired by a hat-trick from top striker Brandon Benjamin, Speyside Secondary cruised into the semifinal of the Coca-Cola National InterCol competition with a 4-0 win over Central Zone Chaguanas North Secondary, at Shaw Park, Tobago, on Monday.
Chaguanas, which ended the match with 10 players with the late ejection of Jaeel Jeffrey, was virtually out of the contest by the mid-way mark in the first half, at which point Speyside already held a two-goal advantage. With the win in the bag after Benjamin completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute, Roldon Kerr added the icing on the cake with a strike deep into time added on.
The win for the two-time reigning Tobago InterCol champion epitomized another successful campaign, which included the successful capture of the league title with two matches to spare. Speyside added to its accolades with 4-2 triumph over league runner-up Mason Hall in the final.
That after whipping Goodwood 12-0 in the quarterfinal and defeating Signal Hill on penalties in the semifinals. It now stands two wins away from the National InterCol title.
Speaking after the massive win, Speyside coach Dwayne Jack said he has not seen his next opponent, Fatima College yet this season. The two teams are carded to clash in the second National InterCol semifinal at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Friday.
Even though we didnt see them, we have to go back to the drawing board as we have work to do in our midfield, said Jack. We havent played too well (in that department) today (Monday). We want to make that area of the field work hard enough because without the midfield, we wont make it, said Jack.
The difference today was that the guys knew where they went wrong. And, the staff knew where they went wrong. We even trained yesterday in Charlotteville, and they did well yesterday. Now we knew today that we could do better in the middle of the field.
Plus, we played too deep in deep in the past games. Jack had praise for Weah Adams, a reliable attacker, who he said showed up for the match.
Today, he played well. Hes a national player. I spoke to him about it. I said, Youre a national player, you have to do well every game, and today he carried out all the instructions. He did well. That was good, he said.
Speaking on his half-time instructions to the players, Jack said, I told the players dont be cocky because of the two goals. We have to go back out and score more goals. While the Tobago champion, Speyside, has not had a sight of its North Zone opponent for Fridays semifinal, Fatima College did its homework in attending Mondays quarterfinal.
Fatimas assistant coach Russell Sutton, who was in Shaw Park said he witnessed a very physical team with some quick players, noting Adams as a player to watch. However, he said his Fatima team, which rallied from a slow start to the season, fears no one after recording massive upsets in recent matches.
Last Thursday, Fatima, which narrowly finished fourth in the league, played to a 2-2 draw with East Mucurapo, before taking the match 4-2 on kicks from the penalty spot in the InterCol North Zone final.
The Hasely Crawford Stadium, which was flocked with Fatima supporters, burst into jubilation after the final kick after edging a team it had not beaten for over six years. Ironically, the win followed a semifinal victory against league champion St Marys College, also on penalty kicks after a draw.
The assistant coach, however, said while Fatima will enter the match bravely, his team will not take Speyside for granted. Sutton, who credited head coach Richard Hood for the teams turn-around said the team, despite suffering some set-backs, did not play to its true potential.
One of the massive blows suffered by Fatima College was the injury to Jason Mendez, a player who transferred from St Marys College after last season. Mendez, a central defender was injured in the first league match against St Anthonys College, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Other than the omission of Mendez, the team is without any injuries apart from a couple knocks.
Sutton added, We have had a squad of 18 players, making it difficult to make the necessary changes to our line-up. Many of our players have not played outside of the SSFL.
But, he continued, I wouldnt say we were unlucky. We just did not play to our best potential. This run came down to confidence. Fatima last won the National InterCol competition in 2005, and eight years later, Sutton believes it is the teams time again. We will win it. We fear no one.

Dreaming about school lessons.
By Garth Wattley (Express).
It was 1981, sometime in October I’m guessing. It was a Saturday afternoon. InterCol final Saturday on St Mary’s Ground.
My first month in secondary school had been memorable; the memories having nothing to do with the classroom. Queen’s Royal College were having one of their better years in a long, long time. This particular Saturday, they found themselves in a final, the North Zone final. I can’t remember now who were the favourites, QRC, my new school or Fatima College. But I had my hopes.
I might have been a new student, but I already felt like an old Royalian. It was a family thing, father and uncle before me. I had grown up hearing so many QRC heartbreak stories in InterCol that this seemed a golden chance to put things right. Didn’t work out that way though.
QRC had not lost a match all season. But they chose the biggest game of the year to that point to do just that. Three-one Fatima beat us. And we scored first too! But my side lost their composure after Ronnie Simmons equalised before half time and in the second half, Brian Netto and Deryck Fritz finished the game off. Concern, then disappointment, then despair descended on me like a some of those clouds that shrouded the northern range beyond Serpentine Road.
I made my way through the big crowd that afternoon, heading straight for home, not keen on seeing people, especially those from primary school who had passed for Fatima! It was a difficult weekend. It’s 32 years now since that game, a fact which astounds me even as I type it. But the feelings and some of those images are still fresh. Needless to say, like that final, the season became one of unfufilled expectations, the first of many I would experience following that team. Still, some of my fondest memories of school and schools football go back to that year and that QRC team.
....
Like that InterCol time in ‘81, it was not a pleasant walk home that afternoon after the Arima licking. But those days I still remember, and without bitterness. I supposed I’ve learned to take the good with the bad. Another lesson learned from “school.”

SSFL top man joins Virginia Tech.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guadian).
Former St Ann’s Rangers and St Augustine Secondary forward Ricardo John has been snapped up by Virginia Tech men’s football team in the United States for their upcoming season.
John will go to Blacksburg as one of seven players from various backgrounds from four different countries. This balanced recruiting class includes players from the United States, Germany, Liberia and T&T.
“All of these players come from winning cultures and we can’t wait to bring that type of mentality to campus,” team head coach Mike Brizendine said of his seven newcomers.
And about John, he said: “Anytime that you bring in a player who is a Golden Boot winner it creates a high level of expectation. Ricardo has the ability to change games for us. I expect him to be one of the top goal scorers to ever come through the programme.
“As a person, he is everything that I admire in a young man. He is humble and respectful, but aggressive and competitive when it comes to soccer.
The Virginia Tech Hokies men’s soccer team is a college soccer programme that competes in NCAA Division 1 and the Coastal Division of Atlantic Coast Conference. Their home games are played at Virginia Tech Lacrosse and Soccer Stadium.
John was named the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) “Player of the Year” for 2013 and was also the school’s topscorer with 21 goals, leading the “Green Machine” to the Coca Cola Intercol title
