Redhead Kingpin don't get an honorary mention? lol. I'd probably put Guru at #1 over Phife Dawg too.

MF Doom is one of the "realist" mcs/producers out now. He's been around from back in the early 1990's under the name Zev lov X. He never performs without his mask/mas. Maybe his whole mask thing is paying homage to his Trini roots.
Here is a track is a that will bring back memories to the true heads.

Sub roc and Zev lov X are brothers. RIP Sub roc

Hmm. She look like a rehash of Nicki Minaj. Worked as a stripper. Looks like she selling sex and rap. I never realized who it was until I checked her stuff on Youtube. If anyone is into that type of hip hop, they might like her.

Thanks Ribbit. Real recognize real.
On a much sadder note, one of the first rappers to big up his Trini heritage has passed away. RIP Malik Isaac Taylor aka Phife Dawg.

Rob Ford (who never ever bigged up Trinidad) died yesterday, the express publishes an article within 2 hrs of his death.
Phife Dawg (who never ceased to big up his Trini heritage) died early this morning and them uncle negros at the express havent published anything as yet.
Let me guess, it's because Ford was more popular? Big steupss.
I know I will get some flac for this one..

Well, I for one will tell you I knew little of this dude. Knew the group well, but not the individuals of the group. Not a huge fan of rap but will listen because some great music came out from the genre. Love the old groups like Last Poets. For me, they will always be the best. But rest in peace. He is going home. Blessings. On the other hand, I(We) knew almost everything about Ford. Always in the news for whatever over indulgences. the media loved him. He going home too. Let the Big Man decide what he will do to them.

I'm just calling out the Express. I think a story about the passing of a hip hop pioneer of Trini descent, who was part of one of the greatest rap groups ever, would be something the express would publish in a timely manner. As opposed to the passing of a politician with absolutely no connection to Trinidad, who became popular for buffoonery and over indulgence, was reported in God speed. Maybe my experiences as a youth growing up in the golden era of hip hop is making me read into this too far.
Regardless, RIP both souls.
