Rising Star Michelle-Lee Ahye Thread
I think she now deserves her own thread, don't you agree?!
This thread will include as many race videos and interviews as possible featuring T&T's young Rising Star Michelle-Lee Ahye starting with this nice interview from May 2014 at the Penn Relays!

Hopefully MLA's injury is not serious although it looks like a hammy. Good double on the night though.

Glad to know! I think it's time she rest up. She's been running everywhere and pushing her body to the limit and it's her first time doing so so extensively. She isn't superwoman.
She did the double and defeated a solid crop of 200m specialists by a good margin. She isn't really a 200 girl so for her to do that says a lot.
Sort that technique out and she can be a consistent 10.9x/8high sprinter- with favourable conditions she can push to 10.7 maybe even 10.6/5 when she peaks.
-
I find it strange that even though she is doing all these great things she isn't really being spoken about on the other forums.

I find it strange that even though she is doing all these great things she isn't really being spoken about on the other forums.
She hasn't done anything great yet until she wins some Major titles.
But if for example MLA wins gold in both the 100m and 200m plus a 4x100m Relay medal at the Commonwealth Games then there will be more folks talking about her.
We can even expect at that stage to hear "allegations" of her using PEDs, etc from the sore losers.
MLA will just need to stay as focused and as healthy as possible as the real big picture is Worlds next year followed by Olympics in 2016.

Hopefully it is nothing serious that will affect MLA's running well in the Commonwealth Games as she tweeted after the race that it was just a cramp. See reply #2 above.
She probably needed a longer warm-up before the race with more stretching but hopefully will be okay with a good massage.
MLA is also down to run in the DL in Monaco this Friday but I won't be surprised if she or her coach management decides to pull out as a precaution as she has been running and winning quite a lot of races in the past two/three weeks to confirm that her 10.85 in T&T was no fluke. I think she has more than made her point by now and is now favourite to win gold in the 100m at the Commonwealth Games even in front of VCB but will need to remains fit and healthy as a priority to fulfill that goal.
I think MLA is also a strong medal contender at the 200m in the CG and with her form our Women's 4x100m relay team should also be strong medal contenders.

Thanks for the vids.
Usually up and comers get mention or are looked out for. E.g when English Gardener was running well last year she was spoken about on another forum. On said forum this year there is also a heptathlete that has her own 40+pace thread and it's only last week that she won two sprint races that had a notable line up.
Probably I'm looking a bit too deeply into it.

In the 200m race the commentator like he didn't want to call her name. I guess he expected the race to be all Veronica.
I was concerned but a cramp is good news. Good luck to her.

Ahye cops sprint Swiss double (http://www.guardian.co.tt/news/2014-07-16/ahye-cops-sprint-swiss-double)

Michelle Lee Ahye’s preparation for this month’s Commonwealth Games continued in full swing yesterday, when she won her fourth consecutive 100m dash on European soil, before doubling up with a 200m win, at the annual Spitzen meeting in Lucerne,Switzerland. There was some cause for concern, however, as T&T’s fastest woman pulled up following the second race clutching her hamstring. It was later revealed that she suffered cramps following her victory in the 200 metres.
Ahye, who ran a world leading time of 10.85 seconds at the T&T National Championships last month, clocked 11.09 into a -0.7m/s headwind yesterday, well ahead of USA’s Tianna Bartoletta who finished second in 11.20. She remains undefeated for the year after 10 100m events. Only three days prior, the 22-year-old multiple Carifta and Pan American Junior champion won the 100m at the Glasgow Grand Prix in 11.01 seconds, and less than two weeks ago, she won the Diamond League 100m in Lausanne in 10.98 to beat Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast, who was credited with the same time.
Ahye was not done after her success in the 100m. An hour later, she maintained her winning momentum to cop the double with her 200m in 22.77 seconds into a -0.9m/s headwind, finishing ahead of double world junior champion Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas, who clocked 22.98 seconds. The mark equalled her personal best, which she also clocked in Port of Spain in a -1.1m/s headwind in Port-of-Spain last month.

Sprint queen wins Lucerne double (http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,197723.html)
Wednesday, July 16 2014 (T&T Newsday)
(http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/Socapro/Michelle-Lee%20Ahye%20Newsday%20Headline.png) (http://s124.photobucket.com/user/Socapro/media/Michelle-Lee%20Ahye%20Newsday%20Headline.png.html)
TRINIDAD AND Tobago sprinter Michelle Lee Ahye completed a remarkable sprint double yesterday, taking gold in the women’s 100-metre and 200m events at the International Athletics Meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland.
But what was supposed to be a joyous occasion for the 22-year-old ended up in a scare as her medal in the 200m final looked to have come at a high price.
Locked in battle with Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown with about 50m to go, Ahye, running out of lane two, stepped on the accelerator and there was no catching her as she pulled away impressively from the field. In full control and striding powerfully towards the finish line, Ahye began to grimace with about 10 metre left and hobbled across the line clutching her left hamstring as she collapsed to the turf.
With just seven days to go for the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, TT will be hoping it is nothing too serious that would deny her the chance of representing this country. The local athlete took to Twitter yesterday to allay the fears of her fans, stating “hey everyone I’m okay it’s nothing serious was just a cramp.”
Just last week Ahye stunned the world with a golden finish at the Diamond league Meeting in Glasgow, edging out Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for first in the 100m in a time of 11.01 seconds.
Ahye, unbeaten, this season, showed her class again yesterday with a 22.77 finish even while limping across the line. Coming in second was Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas in 22.99 while Tiffany Townsend of the USA followed in 23.03.
Ahye had earlier claimed the gold in the 100m final in a sizzling 11.09 seconds ahead of Tianna Bartoletta of the USA who timed 11.20 and Jamaica’s Schillonie Calvert who clocked 11.32.
Ahye has had a phenomenal 2014, scorching the tracks around the world and enticing her local fans after she sprinted away with gold in the 100m and 200m events at the National Championships last month.
In the men’s 100m final yesterday, Jamaican Asafa Powell, in his first race since the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his doping ban from 18 months to six months, had to settle for a bronze medal. Jamaican Julian Forte clinched the gold in a modest 10.23 while Antoine Adams of St Kitts and Nevis took the silver in 10.29. Powell had a time of 10.30. Trinidad and Tobago’s Keston Bledman was in the final but came in fourth position.

NAAA boss impressed by Ahye’s form (http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,197720.html)
By JOEL BAILEY Wednesday, July 16 2014 (T&T Newsday)
(http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/Socapro/Ephraim%20Serrette%20President%20NAAA%20tt_1.jpg) (http://s124.photobucket.com/user/Socapro/media/Ephraim%20Serrette%20President%20NAAA%20tt_1.jpg.html)
Ephraim Serrette, NAAA President
PRESIDENT OF the National Association of Athletic Administrations (NAAA) Ephraim Serrette is impressed by the consistency being shown by national 100-metre and 200m champion Michelle-Lee Ahye.
On Saturday, Ahye continued her gold medal form in Europe this season with her ninth successive victory, in the 100m at the Glasgow Grand Prix in Scotland.
The 22-year-old crossed the finish line in 11.01 seconds, ahead of two-time Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (11.10).
According to Serrette, “it’s always a good feeling to know that you have athletes performing at a particular level. Michelle has been performing from the primary school stage, right to where she is now.”
The former national sprinter added, “it’s not that she’s just popped on the stage. She has been performing at a high level, at primary school, to the junior level and now she’s on the international scene.
“I think this may just be the transition and she’s doing quite well.”
Ahye has propelled herself to become the year’s fastest female 100m runner to date.
“She has moved to a camp in Houston (Texas) some time ago and I guess the work there and the attitude that she may have adopted, as well as the running of the 200 metres,” said Serrette.
“A lot of our sprinters tend not to run 200 and I think that augurs well for our 100 metres,” he added.
“I think that’s one of our failures. She never liked to run the 200 but I think she has done so now. I think it’s paying off well for her in the 100 metres.”
With the Commonwealth Games approaching, Ahye has put herself as a gold medal threat for the Games in Glasgow.
“She is, at the present time, the world leader, (with) the best time in the world by a female sprinter,” Serrette noted.
“But that does not translate dramatically into a Commonwealth gold medal, it’s the performance on the day.
“I just hope that she remains healthy and could perform at that same level when representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Commonwealth level.”
A number of Olympic and World medallists are also on the national squad for the Commonwealth Games, including Keshorn Walcott, Richard Thompson, Keston Bledman, Lalonde Gordon and Jehue Gordon.
The national athletes are currently competing on the European circuit and Serrette stated, “it’s good that the Commonwealth Games is in a time when all the athletes are available and in a year where there is no competing events.
“The last Commonwealth Games was held in Delhi in October (2010), which (was) in the off- season for athletes. The timing this year is very good and all athletes are available.”

Ahye sits out Diamond League
..Borel in shot put action (http://www.guardian.co.tt/sport/2014-07-18/ahye-sits-out-diamond-league)

Michelle-Lee Ahye
Described as a precautionary move, world leading sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye will sit out of today’s Diamond League 100 meter action in Monaco.
Ahye, who pulled up and collapsed on the track holding her hamstring on Wednesday after winning the women’s 200m events in Switzerland, was originally carded to line-up against Jamaican pair Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown as well as USA’s Allyson Felix, today. However, she confirmed her decision to opt out of the race today on her Twitter account saying: “Won’t be competing this weekend resting up for Commonwealth.”
Ahye has confirmed that a cramp was the cause of her pulling up on Wednesday and was “nothing serious”. She is expected to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, which runs from July 23 to August 3.
In Switzerlands, Ahye won both the women’s 100m and 200m races, in 11.09 seconds and 22.77 seconds, respectively. The latter time equalled her personal best she secured at the National Championships, last month. In the 100m, Ahye holds the world leading time, 10.85, which she also clocked in Port-of-Spain, last month.
Meanwhile, T&T’s top shot athlete, Cleopatra Borel will be the lone national representative in Monaco today. The women’s shot put will open proceedings. Borel currently sits in sixth position in Diamond League rankings.

The 22-year-old has now found happiness on and off the track
The favourite to win the women's 100 metres at the Commonwealth Games, Trinidad and Tobago's Michelle-Lee Ahye, wants to double up and take gold in the 200m. Given that she is also a colourful character, she could become the Usain Bolt of women's sprinting.
The 22-year-old was just six years old when the realisation dawned that she might have a talent. During a PE lesson in a straight race with her classmates, she fell over, got up and still beat the field. The next week, her mother, Raquel, enrolled her at the local athletics club. For much of the intervening years, she has been running towards a better life.
"It was rough," she recalls of her upbringing ahead of the first round of the 100m this afternoon. "Mum didn't have much. When I was a baby, it was hard for her to buy Pampers and milk for me as my dad wasn't around. Track is my way out, my way to look after my mum, so I made a promise to myself a long time ago that I'd fight to do whatever it takes to take care of her."
The bond between mother and daughter is incredibly tight. Of Ahye's 12 tattoos, her first was her mother's name on her back. The one on her left forearm, however, is the most pertinent to her turbulent upbringing. The words inked on say: "Laugh now, cry later".
"I went through a lot of ups and downs – one minute smiling the next crying; there's been tears on and off the track," she says.
Her father, Sean, left when she was in her mother's womb. Father and daughter have attempted a reconciliation since 2012 but Ahye admits they are still struggling to get the right balance.
"He came to watch me run at London 2012 and I tried to let him in but it didn't work," she says. "I talk to him on and off but I can't forgive him for what he did. Mum always tried to hide the situation from me but I knew what was going on from when I was young.
"I remember hearing her on the phone begging my dad to buy school books. He would always says he doesn't have it [the money]. When I was born he told my mum I'm not his kid. I asked him about it when I went to Christmas at his in 2012. When I spoke to him he was like, 'I wasn't sure'. I love him but I just can't forgive him for what he did."
Happiness has been sought and found on the track. Ahye, who runs with socks bought from a friend's shop with the words Flaming Hot on them, is the second fastest woman in 2014 with a best time of 10.85 seconds and unbeaten in her last 10 races.
Ahye has a chance to become one of the stars of the Games. Competition will come from Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare and Veronica Campbell-Brown in particular though a left hamstring strain in the build-up to Glasgow has been a cause for concern. "I guess I'm running too fast," she says laughing off the injury. "It's nothing serious. It's a worry but I'm going in confident I can get gold in the 100m and 200m." The injury forced her to miss the Monaco Diamond League, which made her cry. "When I can't run, I get emotional. I felt like someone had stabbed me in the heart." There were also tears when her idol, Marion Jones, was exposed as a drugs cheat, which broke her heart.
There are those that question Ahye's sudden surge in speed but she says: "I was on Facebook and I saw someone saying, 'I hope she's clean' and I just laugh. There's always critics but I blank them. I'm racing clean." She also points to the fact that she came late to sprinting. 2007 to 2011 were injury-plagued seasons, her hamstrings popping alternately, with the additional issue of a hip problem. Since working with coach Eric Francis injuries have dissipated and the times dipped.
Ahye is not satisfied with where she currently stands. She wants Commonwealth gold along with world and Olympic titles, and believes she can run 10.6sec. "I want to be the greatest of all time and I'm working towards it."

Lee Ahye
@Leeahye
Sorry for disappointing u guys but unfortunately I will be pulling out of the Games..my hamstring is quite yet not ready #sorry
This will seriously affect our Relay Team's Medal chances as well.
I wonder if MLA will be healthy again before the end of the season?
However the priority is not running while not fully fit and making matters worse in the long term.

This girl have good physics.
She go get better.
Michelle go f00cking kill them next Olympics, watch and see.

TT sprinter Ahye on the mend (http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,199664.html)
By JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH Wednesday, August 27 2014 (T&T Newsday)
(http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p12/Socapro/Michelle-Lee%20Ahye%2001_1.jpg) (http://s124.photobucket.com/user/Socapro/media/Michelle-Lee%20Ahye%2001_1.jpg.html)
NATIONAL SPRINT queen, Michelle Lee Ahye, has been positively recovering from a recent hamstring injury which she sustained after capturing her first European sprint-double at the annual Spitzen Leichtathletik meet in Lucerne, Switzerland, on July 15.
Following her ailment, the 22-year old ace sprinter was forced to sit out her campaign at the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where she was internationally favoured to produce another golden showing in both the 100-metre and 200m events. At the Swiss meet however, which was used as a prep ahead of the Commonwealth, Ahye pulled up on the line in severe pain after winning the 200m in a speedy 22.77 seconds.
In the process, Ahye equalled her personal best clocking she recorded at the National Championships in early July and also beat to the line two-time Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica), and Americans Tiffany Townsend and Kimberly Duncan.
“My recovery is coming along really good. I’m not back to a hundred percent as yet, but I’m close to it. I’m back at training to the max but still have a little more work to do. I just want to end my season on a good note and walk away healthy and with a new personal best time in both the 100m and 200m,” she explained.
Three days before her sprint-double in Switzerland, Ahye also raced to victory in the British Athletics Grand Prix IAAF Diamond League women’s 100m clocking 11.01. Here, she claimed the scalps of Jamaica’s two-time Olympic 100m gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (silver 11.10 and 2011 World 100m champion, American Carmelita Jeter.
Upon the revelation of Ahye’s inability to represent the red, white and black in Glasgow, several local and international athletic gurus questioned the large amount of meets she contested leading up to the Commonwealth Games. Some were of the idea that she may have been a bit too overworked. Speaking with the athlete from her Houston, Texas, base over the weekend, she revealed that it was the lengthy waiting period for the medal ceremony in Switzerland, which may have played a crucial role in her left hamstring injury.
“My injury was caused after the 100m in Lucerne. They (officials) had me waiting for the medal ceremony and I (my body) got cold and wasn’t able to get worked on (by physiotherapist) before the 200m, so I went into that event cold. The speed I was going at in the 200m made my muscle tie up,” she added.
Presently, the Tranquility Government Secondary is ranked second fastest (10.85) on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) senior outdoor women’s 200m list and sixth fastest (7.10) on the indoor circuit.
Ahye, who competes locally for club Rebirth, heaped praises on her coach Eric Francis and agent Treshell Mayo, for her continued success. She acknowledged their significant input into her athletic training and development regime and for providing her with a professional and comprehensive outlook on sprint training.
When asked about her personal feeling after beating Fraser-Pryce and Campbell-Brown at both European meets, Ahye stated, “Me beating the reigning Olympic gold medallist, that is one feeling I’ll never forget. I really can’t explain it, but all I knew after everything settled after that race, I took some time to myself and started to cry and was thanking the Lord. My confidence and motivation went sky high after that day.”
Ahye is presently with her coach in the US recuperating from her injury and preparing to conclude her 2014 competitive season. Her ultimate objective as a TT sprinter is to capture precious metal on the sporting world’s biggest stage, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Michelle Lee Ahye
Michelle Lee Ahye, brilliant in international women’s sprinting this year before retreating for hamstring treatment, which flared up at last month’s Commonwealth Games, is set to return to action.
The Trinidad and Tobago now standout woman international sprinter – Kelly Ann Baptiste and Semoy Hackett out on doping-related matters – has been named as one of four national athletes to represent the Americas in the September 13 and 14th Continental Cup Track and Field Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.
Olympic javelin champion Keshorn Walcott, seasoned woman shot putter Cleopatra Borel and sprinter Richard Thompson are the other three Trinidad and Tobago invitees for the Americas challenge against the high-quality continental representations from Africa, Europe and Asia.
The TT four link with other Americas selectees like Jamaicans Nesta Carter and Veronica Campbell-Brown, Kittitian sprinter Kim Collins, Americans La Shawn Merritt, a 400-metre specialist and pole vaulter Jennifer Suhr and Javier Culson, a 400-metre hurdles srongman from Puerto Rico.

Michelle looking good. It appears that she has recovered well. It is a pity she had muscle problem before the games. Prepare well for Rio.

Good signs and I am hoping MLA can better manage her quantity of races this T&F season and so remain injury free in 2015 especially when we get to the Outdoors section of the season. If all goes well MLA should be a hot contender for a medal at the 2015 World Champs. Will be also good to see KAB back on the track and giving MLA some competition at our National Champs this year. With both KAB and Hackett back our Women's 4x100m squad should be serious this year in regards to competition for spots on the team.

I think two significant droughts will end in Rio. No female olympic medals and no female individual or relay medals. I dont see how KAB, MLA and Semoy on a 4x100 team that is properly coached will be beaten by three teams. Coaching is key. I'm sure they won't ask me, but whoever is in charge needs to be on their job, or I will be cussing, loudly. The women's team has always found a way to have a fatal mistake in the final.

I think you should talk to the Naaa and tell them in a serious manner, that you have a plan to end the drought of our female athletes.
-
I am privately and quietly doing my part on the female side as some of you know, but I would like to see both teams come to my facility right here in Florida for a brief training camp next year.
Unlikely it will happen, but it should (egos).
The 4x100 men better get their act together too, particularly passing from legs 3-4 because the field has gotten stronger, with UK now being faster than TnT on paper and having good coaching. We will not be able to make mistakes and medal with Japan, USA, Jamaica and UK around. Canada got bronze at the last worlds, and they were YOUNG.

Yeah our 4x1 relay men will have their work cut out this year. In fact both teams men and women will need the best relay coaching if they want to safely medal at World Champs later this year.
The Bahamas World Relay should be a good warm-up and indicator of the possibilities for our relay teams against World Class competition.
I would like to see us send men's and women's relay teams for the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m & 4x800m relays to the Bahamas.
The Bahamas World Relays should also service as good relay practise and experience for our sprinters against other world class relay teams.

Indeed. I would hope that the Naaa takes you up on that offer. It will be foolish of them to ignore it.
That men's 4x100 has a lot of work to do. If Rio was this year, I don't think they will medal. GB and Canada will probably be 3 and 4.
The outdoor season will be good this year. With three major competitions this year, there will be three opportunities to get it right for Rio. Rio has the potential to be our best Olympics.. that's of course IF the Naaa plans accordingly .

They will have to be a competition for spots between the above three (KAB, MLA and Semoy) and these three (Kamaria Durant, Reyare Thomas and Kai Selvon) who ran with MLA on the 4x100m Relay team when they won bronze at the World Relays in the Bahamas last year.
Read article below reviewing their performance then have a look at the race video I've posted as a reminder.

4x1 women strike bronze! (http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/RELAY-HISTORY-260622041.html)

T&T 4x100 bronze medal ladies
Kamaria Durant, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Reyare Thomas and Kai Selvon re-wrote the history books at the Thomas Robinson National Stadium here in Nassau, Bahamas, on Saturday night. They teamed up for the first-ever global medal from a Trinidad and Tobago women’s relay team, and also became the country’s first podium finishers at the inaugural IAAF World Relays.
The T&T quartet completed their lap of the track in 42.66 seconds, edging Nigeria (42.67) into fourth spot. The Americans, anchored by Lekeisha Lawson, claimed gold in 41.88, while silver went to Jamaica in 42.28.
Durant, the newest member of the team, ran the leadoff leg for T&T. “It was exciting being in a final,” Durant told the Express, “and being with these girls. I don’t even know what to say because I know these girls have been in it longer than me and I know they’ve been longing for it. Just to be with them is an achievement. I’m very happy.”
Ahye was superb on the back straight, the in-form sprinter setting up T&T’s push for precious metal. “Yes, the door has officially opened,” Ahye declared after the race. “Look out for us more in finals and on the podium.”
The experienced Thomas ran the third leg for T&T, handing the baton to Selvon. Thomas was a relieved woman on Saturday night. “It has been years the women tried to mount the podium, so this was a great opportunity.”
Selvon, who outduelled Nigeria anchor Francesca Okwara in a keen battle for bronze, was also thrilled to be part of a victory ceremony at a global championship. “We’ve been working at it for a long time. We’re just happy to see we pulled through this time and we executed. We’re proud of one another.”

Nice, Nice!!!!

It will be interesting to see how she handles miss Ahoure. Having lost to her 2 weeks ago.
Overall it bodes well for her outdoor season that she is not far off from Murielle Ahoure in the 60m. With her top end speed she will be able to overhaul most sprinters. Improving her first 60 with allow her to become a gold medal contender with more experience.
Main competitors this year:
Safp
Blessing O
Tori Bowie
VCB
Waiting to see KAB in action before anything but I believe she will be ready to bring it. Would love if Kai selvon can be sub 11 this year too.
Up and coming Schippers and Dina Asher Smith(potentially) and maybe Strachan.
-
Those 3 are can cause trouble. I saw Schippers at the end of the season
was doing quite well.

MLA just keeps on Improving. No win today, but she runs another SB, that's just marginally slower than her 7.10 PR

Lets see how MLA does in Stockholm this Thursday in the 200m. Here is a quote from her twitter account.
https://twitter.com/Leeahye/status/566994422232276993
Lee Ahye@Leeahye·
About this 200m in Stockholm on Thursday tho yikes..!!!!!!!!
FYI MLA is currently at 60th in the Indoor 200m Top List (http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/sprints/200-metres/indoor/women/senior/2015) with a SB time of 23.80 (ran in December) but it would be nice to see her move up into the Top 10 with a time of 23.27 or better. Even better than that if MLA can run a sub-23 time then that will take her into the Top 5 in 200m Indoors for 2015.
-
Lol MLA is not so fond of the 200m. I think the indoor 200m is slightly more daunting with the tighter curves and all. I think a more efficient technique will help MLA in the 200 because with the slight swaying/rocking she does I'm sure it doesn't help towards the latter stages of the race when there is more potential to tighten up- outdoors at least.
For this race I think she will definitely improve on her time but sub 23 is a bit of a stretch but anything can happen i guess.

Birmingham Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix, February 21
Indoor competition will return to the renovated Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, which was formerly known as the NIA. The venue was re-opened with a Michael Buble concert in December, and hosts Slipknot and Korn this month, before the athletes get their chance to sing on the February 21.
The Midlands venue traditionally attracts a strong field. Last year, Genzebe Dibaba broke the 2-mile world best to complete her indoor hat-trick.
Back in the noughties, another Ethiopian was breaking records for fun in Birmingham. Kenenisa Bekele set a trio of indoor world marks in the UK’s second city, starting in 2004 with a 12:49.60 in the 5000m, following it with a 4:49.99 in the 2000m in 2007, and finally in the two miles in 2008 with an 8:04.35.

Ahye blazes 200m victory in Sweden (http://www.sportscoretobago.com/news/ahye-blazes-200m-victory-in-sweden/)

Michelle-Lee Ahye won the women’s 200m at the XL-Galan in Sweden in pb of 23.37 on 19 Feb.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (19 Feb): World Indoor finalist Michelle-Lee Ahye began her European campaign with an emphatic victory in the women’s 200m at the XL-Galan IAAF Indoor Permit Meet in Stockholm, Sweden earlier today (Thu 19 Feb). After an impressive outing in the United States of America earlier in the season, Ahye sped to 23.37 seconds to take the first of two heats. Her time held up to be the fastest as the winner of the second heat, Lea Sprunger of Switzerland, returned a clocking of 23.76. World Youth 200m champion Irene Ekelund (Sweden) recorded the second fastest time in her 23.55 runner-up finish to Ahye while Sprunger’s time held out for third. Ahye’s time is also a personal best and meet record. Her triumph came after her silver medal run at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday (14 February) where she recorded a new season’s best of 7.11 seconds. The four time Carifta gold medallist will next race in Birmingham, United Kingdon on Saturday (21 February) where she is expected to line up in the women’s 60m against the two-time World Indoor and Outdoor silver medallist Murielle Ahoure (Ivory Coast) and former World 100m champion Carmelita Jeter (USA).
T&T’s former NCAA 110m hurdles gold medallist Wayne Davis II got his 2015 season underway with a modest 9th place finish in the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.92. World leader Orlando Ortega of Cuba was first to the line in 7.52 ahead of compatriot and 2008 Olympic 110m hurdles champion Dayron Robles (7.56). Reigning World Outdoor 110m hurdles champ David Oliver (USA) copped third spot in 7.66.
The highlight of the meet was the world record run of Ethopian distance queen Genezebe Dibaba who clocked 14 minutes 18.86 seconds (14:18.86). (G) Dibaba erased the sixth year old mark of 14:24.36 set by another great Ethopian runner Meseret Defar at the same meet in 2009. The winner is now the world record holder of the indoor 1500m (3:55.17) and 3000m (8:16.60) and also holds the world best time in the two miles (9:00.48).

MLA 3rd in final. Did not run her best race but at least she is on the medal podium.
I think MLA needs to work on her starts and tidying up her technique especially for these shorter races.
Once she does that she will be very hard to beat.

MLA's wind-aided 100m time of 10.87 which she ran weekend just gone in Texas with the help of a +3.7 wind, works out at 11.08s in still-wind conditions.
This still-wind time of 11.08s would have also placed MLA at no.1 in the World so far in IAAF 2015 Top List for Senior Women 100m Sprinters Outdoors.
See link: http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/sprints/100-metres/outdoor/women/senior/2015
MLA is currently at no.9 in the Legal-wind List over 100m for 2015 with a still-wind 11.36 run also done in Texas this weekend just gone but I would expect her legal-wind times to improve over the next few weeks now that she has officially started her outdoor season.
It will also be interesting to see what time KAB eventually opens her outdoor season with.

Wins twice in Texas: Michelle-Lee Ahye
Trinidad and Tobago sprint star Michelle-Lee Ahye won twice in Texas, USA, on the weekend.
At the Texas Relays, Ahye scorched the track in a wind-assisted 10.87 seconds for a commanding victory in the women’s invitational 100 metres dash. She was pushed to the line by a 3.7 metres per second following wind—well above the 2.0 legal limit. American Jessica Young was a distant second in 11.13, while third spot went to Nigeria’s Dominique Duncan (11.34).
Another T&T sprinter, Reyare Thomas finished sixth in the same race in 12.84 seconds.
In the university/college women’s 400m hurdles, University of Arkansas senior Sparkle McKnight topped the field in 56.70 seconds.
Texas State University sophomore, Aaron George produced a wind-aided 7.15 metres leap to finish 11th in the university/college men’s long jump.
And Kayelle Clarke clocked 11.98 seconds for 32nd spot overall in the university/college women’s 100m. The New Mexico Junior College sprinter will represent T&T at the Carifta Games in St Kitts and Nevis, on the weekend.
Ahye was also victorious at the Bobcat Invitational. She won the women’s 100m dash in 11.36 seconds, while Thomas was sixth overall in 11.65.
Dan-Neil Telesford was second fastest in the men’s 200m, the T&T athlete clocking a windy 20.98 seconds. His Wiley College teammate, Quinn-Lee Ralph finished eighth overall in 21.65.
Moriba Morain got to the line in 10.62 seconds to finish first in heat three and third overall in the men’s 100m. There was bronze too for Sterlen Paul, the Abilene Christian University student finishing third in the men’s 800m in one minute, 53.39 seconds.
In California, Holland Cabara stopped the clock at 10.47 seconds to win the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Open men’s 100m dash. Another T&T/College of the Sequoias sprinter, Ashron Sobers was third in 10.68.
Cabara won the 200m in 21.15 seconds to complete the sprint double. His Sequoias teammate, Theon Lewis was second in 21.65, while Sobers (22.13) finished seventh.
And Ohdel James, who is also a Sequoias student, struck gold in the men’s 400m in 47.81 seconds.
In Maryland, Deandra Daniel won the Coppin State Twilight women’s long jump event with a 5.20m leap. Her Coppin State University teammate, Mark London finished second in the men’s 1500m in 4:08.72. And another T&T/Coppin State athlete, Haysean Cowie-Clarke was 11th overall in the men’s 400m in 54.88 seconds.
At the Florida State Relays, Emanuel Mayers clocked 51.46 seconds to earn silver in the men’s 400m hurdles.
Trishelle Leacock was seventh in the women’s 100m dash in 12.64 seconds. The University of Miami freshman also competed in the 200m, finishing 10th overall in 25.46.
At the Puma Outdoor meet, in Arizona, Mikel Thomas finished second in the men’s 200m in 21.47 seconds.
And in Alabama, Peli Alzola was fourth overall in the Crimson Tide Invitational women’s 200m. The Western Kentucky University sprinter got home in 24.57 seconds.

Just found this old photo of MLA from 5 years ago in 2010 on facebook and almost thought that I was looking at Marion Jones.

Michelle-Lee Ahye in 2015
Btw this is how Michelle-Lee now looks in 2015 so she no longer looks like the spliting image of Marion Jones but back in 2010 I think MLA could have easily passed as Marion's sister or one of her close relatives, well at least in that first photo from 2010.
What do you guys think?

Still waiting on a TNT 100m sprinter to take the 200m seriously. Will it ever happen? :-\
-
Ato maybe Farinha will be the next one. Maybe Machel Cedenio.
I think Michelle will definitely improve on her times from last year but she has never been a fan even since Carifta Games. I think she can get down to 22.3 this year. If she did though sub 22 would be within her reach.

I suspect that MLA will also be taking the 200m seriously as well this season and might be hoping to make finals and contest for a medal in both the 100 and 200m at World Champs in Beijing China in August. She did look very good in the 200m last season just before she pulled up injured at the end of her race.
Hopefully KAB and Hackett will also be taking the 200m seriously this season to add some speed endurance to their 100m races and so give themselves an edge.
-
I mean on the men's side, mostly.
Machel Cedenio running the 200 doesn't count, as he isn't a 100m sprinter. Our 400m men have actually run it more, and with better results, than any TnT Sprinter in the last 5 years.
The race by MLA this weekend is very significant. It converts to 10.77 with 0 wind :o :o which is faster than the current NR.
Put a hypothetical 1.8 behind it, and you are talking about a performance that could have won any championship in the last 20 years - and this is still only her 2nd race of the year. If she stays healthy, Beijing could be her arrival on the world championship stage.
Maybe overlooked this weekend at FL Relays was this result, 2nd for Sorrillo in his heat in a very respectable early season time:

Ahye leads the world

Michelle-Lee Ahye shaping up for a good 2015 Outdoor Season
Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye shot to the top of the 2015 world performance list in the women’s 100 metres dash when she stopped the clock at 10.97 seconds at the Florida Relays, in the United States, on Friday.
Ahye produced the impressive clocking, running into a 2.5 metres per second headwind. Jamaica’s Remona Burchell finished second in 11.04.
In another women’s 100m race, T&T/Western Kentucky University sprinter Peli Alzola finished ninth in 12.02 seconds.
Rondel Sorrillo finished in a dead heat for first in the men’s 200m “B” race. Both the T&T sprinter and his American rival, Just’N Thymes clocked 20.46 seconds. In the 100m “A” race, Sorrillo was second in 10.17.
Another T&T sprinter, Keston Bledman clocked 21.05 seconds for second spot in the men’s 200m “D” race.
Emanuel Mayers got home in 50.63 seconds to secure fourth spot in the men’s 400m hurdles. In the women’s 400m hurdles, Janeil Bellille clocked 58.41 to finish fifth.
Mikel Thomas was fifth in the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.47 seconds. Another T&T hurdler, Wayne Davis II finished ninth in 13.86.
Alena Brooks returned a time of two minutes, 08.42 seconds for fifth spot in the women’s 800m. In the men’s 800m “F” race, Coppin State University’s Mark London was fifth in 1:52.02.
And in the women’s 400m “D” race, Romona Modeste completed her lap of the track in 54.30 seconds to secure seventh spot.

This weekend MLA lost her 10.97 World Lead to ET (Elaine Thompson) of Jamaica.
I am patiently waiting to see what times both KAB and Hackett open their outdoor seasons with.
Elaine Thompson runs WL 10.92 at UTech Classic
https://www.youtube.com/v/DRHW6YmEhbo
Elaine Thompson (UTech) won the women's 100m in a world leading 10.92 seconds at the 2015 UTech Classic at the National Stadium. Natasha Morrison 11.17 and Christania Williams 11.18 were second and third respectively.
-
Just got news that MLA ran 22.01 yesterday in Texas at the 2015 Bobcat Classic but she had the help of a 2.9 tailwind.
I reckon that MLA would still have ran a 200m world lead even if the wind conditions were legal (+2.0 or less) based upon the current legal 200m world lead being 22.42 by the American white hope Jenna Prandini.
See link: http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/sprints/200-metres/outdoor/women/senior/2015
By my calculations MLA would have ran a 22.18 in still wind conditions which is still faster than the current legal world lead. Also only 4 female athetes equalled or bettered 22.18 over 200m last year so that is a good sign that MLA can be a serious contender in both the 100m and 200m at the upcoming World Champs in August barring injury.
I think that based upon this MLA 200m time and KAB's 22.91 200m in her outdoor season opener last weekend that T&T could have fielded a serious women's 4x200m relay team with medal potential at World Relays in Bahamas next weekend.
If only Kayelle Clarke and Semoy Hackett were available I think T&T would have had the personnel to take on the workload in the 4x200m relay on day 1 without it negatively affecting our chances in the 4x100m relay on Day 2 and we could have been in a strong position to win a medal both in the 4x2 and 4x1 on days 1 and 2 respectively at the 2015 World Relays in the Bahamas.
But as things are its likely to be between USA, JA, Bahamas and possibly Nigeria pressing for medals in the women's 4x200m relay in the Bahamas on day 1 without a T&T women's 4x200m relay team in the mix.
Also note in section 2 of the 200m Finals at the 2015 Bobcat Classic in Texas that Reyare Thomas placed 2nd in a time of 23.41 in a just legal 2.0 tailwind which was 4th overall for the Finals.
What do you guys thinks?

Michelle-Lee Ahye
Michelle-Lee Ahye blazed the track in a wind-aided 22.01 seconds for a huge victory in the Bobcat Classic women’s 200 metres, in Texas, USA, on Saturday.
The clocking is the fastest time in the world this year and the fastest ever recorded by a female athlete from Trinidad and Tobago. However, it will not be recognised as a national record since the following wind was 2.9 metres per second—above the 2.0 legal limit.
Allison Peter finished a distant second, the United States Virgin Islands athlete getting to the line in 23.28.
Another T&T sprinter, Reyare Thomas was second in section two and fourth overall in 23.47 seconds.
Janeil Bellille struck gold in the women’s 400m, the T&T athlete completing her lap of the track in 52.95 seconds. Jessica James clocked 55.44 to secure ninth spot overall.
Texas State University student, Aaron George produced a wind-assisted 7.40 metres effort for fourth spot in the men’s long jump. His best legal leap in the competition was 7.38m.
Domonique Williams topped the women’s 400m field, at the Western Texas A&M University Open Twilight meet. The South Plains College student clocked 53.08 seconds. Another T&T athlete, Western Texas College’s Marissa Gale finished second in 54.97. New Mexico Junior College athlete, Kayelle Clarke was fourth overall in 56.47.
John-Mark Constantine bagged men’s 100m bronze, the Western Texas College sprinter getting home in 10.52 seconds.
Jereem Richards was fourth overall in the men’s 400m in 47.85 seconds. And his South Plains teammate, Aaliyah Telesford clocked 12.04 for fifth spot overall in the women’s 100m.
At the Brigham Young University (BYU) Robison Invitational, in Utah, Marsha Mark-Baird won the women’s long jump with a 5.90m leap. She was third in the 100m hurdles in 14.52 seconds, and fifth in the javelin with a 41.10m throw.

T&T’s Michelle Lee Ahye finished a creditable third in the 100 metres sprint at the Shanghai Diamond League meet, in China, yesterday. The event was won by Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare who may have signaled that she is the woman to beat in the women’s 100 metres at the world championships, later this year.
Okagbare got a strong start in the star studded field of eight finalists, and held off a fast-closing Tori Bowie of the United States to win in 10.98. Bowie was second in 11.07, just ahead of Ahye who finished in 11.13.
Two-time world and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica was a disappointing fifth in 11.25, just behind her Jamaican teammate Veronica Campbell-Brown who clocked 11.22. American Muna Lee (11.48), China’s Wei Yongli (11.51), Jamaica’s Schillonie Calvert (11.53), and China’s Tao Yujia (11.68), completed the field.
It was the second bronze medal for T&T at the Diamond meeting in less than a week, after Keston Bledman was third in the series over 100 metres in the Qatari capital Doha, on Friday.
Also competing yesterday were shot putter Cleopatra Borel and 400 metres runner Renny Quow.
Borel enjoy a best throw of 18.32 metres, which could only earn her sixth place in the event which was won by China’s Gong Lijiao (20.23 metres).
Germany’s Christina Schwanitz threw 19.94 metres to finish second while Tia Brooks of the United States took the bronze medal with a throw of 18.66. Also finishing ahead of Borel were China’s Gua Tianqui (18.57) and Anita Marton (18.57).
China’s Gao Yang (18.29), Yuliya Leantsiuk of Belarus (18.00) and American Felisha Johnson (17.91), completed the field.
Olympic champion Kirani James of Grenada dominated the field in the men’s 400, winning in 44.66 — nearly a full second ahead of Tony McQuay of the United States in second. Defending world champion LaShawn Merritt was third. Quow finished in eighth place clocking a disappointing 46.65.
The women’s 100 metres was a perfectly run event for Okagbare. “I focused on my start and it went well,” Okagbare said. “Normally I haven’t the best start but now I was leading from the beginning.”
Fraser-Pryce faded over the last 50 metres and her fifth place in 11.25, was well off her personal best of 10.70.
Coming off a season of injuries and inconsistent results, the Jamaican is hoping to recapture her top sprinting form before the worlds, where she’s the defending champion in the 100 and 200. She said before the Shanghai meet that she may only run the 100 if the season takes a toll on her body.
“I always have my work cut out. Nobody hands anything to me,” Fraser-Pryce said after the race, still smiling despite the result. “I think it’s just one of those races—you go back, you have faith and you just move on from here. It’s not the first time I’m losing.

4th win of year: Michelle-Lee Ahye
Michelle-Lee Ahye secured a comfortable victory in the IAAF World Challenge women's 100 metres dash at the Bird's Nest stadium, in Beijing, China, yesterday.
The Trinidad and Tobago track star stopped the clock at 11.05 seconds to finish well ahead of second-placed Charonda Williams, the American sprinter getting to the line in 11.28. Third spot went to Jamaican Schillonie Calvert (11.42).
Ahye's victory was her fourth this year in the 100m. In late March, at the Bobcat Invitational in Texas, the US-based sprinter won her 2015 100m opener in 11.36 seconds. She followed up with a wind-assisted 10.87 triumph at the Texas Relays.
In early April, Ahye produced a superb run at the Florida Relays. Running into a 2.5 metres per second headwind, she won the race in 10.97 seconds.
On Sunday, at the Shanghai Diamond League meet, in China, Ahye suffered her first 2015 defeat in the 100m event, the 23-year-old athlete finishing third in 11.13 seconds, behind Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare (10.98) and American Tori Bowie (11.07).
Ahye had the satisfaction, though, of beating a pair of Olympic champions to the line-Jamaicans Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Campbell-Brown finished fourth in 11.22 seconds, one spot ahead of Fraser-Pryce (11.25).
Ahye bounced back from Sunday's setback to win easily at the Bird's Nest, yesterday. She hopes to be victorious again at that stadium in late August, at the 2015 IAAF World Championships.

Michelle-Lee Ahye of TTO (Center) wins 100m at IAAF World Challenge Beijing. Left is Schillonie Calvert (JAM) who place 3rd & right is LaKeisha Lawson (USA) who placed 4th respectively.
T&T’s Michelle-Lee Ahye clocked 11.05 seconds to win the women 100 metres yesterday at the World Challenge Beijing meet at the Bird’s Nest, which will also host the world championships in August.
The local sprinter finished ahead of ChaRonda Williams of the United States and Schillonie Calvert of Jamaica, who crossed in 11.28 and 11.42, respectively.
Ahye gave a much improved performance from the weekend, when she placed third in 11.13 in the same event at the Shanghai Diamond League. Winning was Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare in 10.98 and she was followed by USA’s Tori Bowie in 11.07.
Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica, who skipped the 100, expectedly won the 200 easily with a time of 22.60, leaving American Kaylin Whitney (23.06) and Jamaican Schillonie Calvert (23.12) to take the second and third places.
The men’s 100 was won by Marvin Bracy, a day after American teammate Justin Gatlin withdrew from the event. Bracy clocked 9.95 seconds to beat Mike Rodgers by four hundredths of a second, with Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian taking third in 10.06
Gatlin had arrived for the meet with an injury concern after running a world-leading 9.74 in Doha, Qatar, on Friday.
In other men’s results, Kenya’s Jonathan Muia Ndiku won the steeplechase in 8:11.64, Alexis Copello of Cuba recorded 16.70 meters to clinch the triple jump title and Petr Frydrych of the Czech Republic won the javelin with a throw of 83.10 metres.
World-record holder Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland won the women’s hammer with a throw of 77.73 meters.
The 29-year-old Wlodarczyk, world champion in 2009 and the reigning Olympic and world silver medalist, won comfortably with China’s Wang Zheng second with 73.99 and Martina Hrasnova of Slovakia third with 73.80.
Zhang Wenxiu, the 2008 Beijing Olympic bronze medalist, finished sixth.
In the women’s shot put, Christina Schwanitz of Germany recorded a world-leading 20.77 meters to avenge her loss to China’s Gong Lijiao at the Shanghai Diamond League meet on Sunday.

Jehue Gordon (lane 7) hits hurdle just before falling in 2015 Pre 400m hurdles Final
Everything that could go wrong went wrong for Trinidad and Tobago’s athletes yesterday at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, USA. There was an injury, a stumble and poor performances as no local athlete was close to securing a medal.
World champion Jehue Gordon got TT off on the wrong foot, falling in the Men’s 400m hurdles final which he did not finish. Gordon had a poor start to the race and had significant ground to make up after hitting the final straight in sixth position. But with around 70m to go, Gordon clipped the hurdle and fell flat out of the race. Further up the track, it was USA 1-2-3 with Johnny Dutch (48.20), Bershawn Jackson (48.22) and Michael Tinsley (48.79) occupying the podium places respectively.

Michelle-Lee Ahye (lane 6) clutches leg & just manages to finish race in Pre 100m Final;
Kelly-Ann Baptiste (lane 7) finished in 6th position in 11.08 just behind Carmelita Jeter
In the women’s 100m Diamond final, TT were well represented with Michelle Lee Ahye, lining up alongside compatriot Kelly-Ann Baptiste, in a high-powered field.
With Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, American Carmelita Jeter and Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor of Nigeria also competing, the TT athletes were pressed to produce their best. The TT women were both slow out of the blocks and Ahye, whose season was truncated in 2014 due to injury, again fell victim to the injury bug as she began clutching her hamstring with about 30m to go. The ace TT sprinter’s momentum carried her across the finish line in last spot in 11.90. Baptiste was in sixth place in a time of 11.08. Fraser-Pryce was in sensational form in snatching gold but was pushed to her limit by Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure - both were timed at 10.81. American Tori Bowie (10.82) took bronze.
It was another disappointment for the red, white and black in the Men’s 100m race as national record holder Richard Thompson, running out of lane eight, placed seventh. Thompson was never in contention, stopping the clock at a slow 10.27.
USA’s Tyson Gay, who was recently stripped of his 2012 London Olympic silver medal for doping, brushed off the criticism he has been receiving with a slick 9.88 performance. Taking silver and bronze were USA’s Michael Rodgers and China’s Su Bingtian respectively.

Meanwhile, there was no stopping Olympic champion Kirani James of Grenada in the Men’s 400m event. James torched the field and American rival Lashawn Merritt in a world leading golden time of 43.95. Merritt had to settle for silver in 44.51 while Christopher Brown of Bahamas followed in 44.54.

That is good news.
I gather that she is not racing until trials? If so, that is a good decision.
I predicted her to run 10.7x this year. I hope she come through..

PLEASING RETURN: Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye (lane 5)
Michelle-Lee Ahye was the best of the Trinidad and Tobago athletes on show at the American Track League meet, in Atlanta, United States, on Saturday night. Ahye picked up silver in the women’s 100 metres dash in 11.29 seconds. Jamaica’s 2007 world champion Veronica Campbell-Brown clocked 11.22 to claim gold. Bronze, meanwhile, went to another Jamaican, Simone Facey (11.30). The other T&T sprinter in the race, Kai Selvon got to the line in 11.70 seconds to finish seventh.
Ahye and Selvon are coming back from injury, and used Saturday’s meet to prove their fitness ahead of the August 22-30 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.
Semoy Hackett secured bronze in the American Track League women’s 200m, the T&T athlete getting home in 23.37 seconds. Campbell-Brown was also the winner in the half-lap event, the two-time Olympic 200m champion stopping the clock at 22.82 for a comfortable cushion on second-placed Charonda Williams (23.25) of the United States.
Like Ahye and Selvon, Deon Lendore ran a comeback race at the American Track League meet. The T&T quartermiler was sixth in the men’s 400m, completing his lap of the track in 45.94 seconds. Nineteen-year-old Bahamian Steven Gardiner triumphed in 45.11, forcing decathlete Ashton Eaton to settle for the runner-up spot in 45.55. Eaton’s fellow-American, Kyle Clemons clocked 45.76 to finish third.
In a Twitter post, on Saturday night, Lendore said: “I’m thankful I’m not hurt no more but I’m disappointed I didn’t trust myself in this race. Brighter days ahead.”

I believe MLA runs in lane 5 in this first come back from injury race. She had a slow start as per usual.
Not sure which lane Kai Selvon is running in but its either lane 1 or lane 8.
Welcome back to both ladies and lets hope they both remain injury free for the rest of the season and can both make the trip to Beijing.

Damn. Michelle just pulled up. I hope she is okay.
I think that will be her last race of the season.
Three harmstring pulls in one season is not a good sign at all.
She really needs looking at from a medical and management perspective as she may not fulfill her full potential if these regular hamstring pulls continue.
Don't want what happened to Darrell Brown to also happen to Michelle-Lee.

Unfortunately MLA pulled up in the race with what seems to be another hamstring pull. This might have signalled the end of her 2015 season. Lets hope MLA recovers fully and can have an injury free season next year so she will be at her very best for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Ahye pulls up at ISTAF Berlin (http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,216695.html)

Michelle Lee Ahye at start of 100m at ISTAF Berlin 2015
Michelle Lee Ahye’s niggling injury shot back into the spotlight yesterday when she was forced to pull up halfway through the ISTAF Berlin — Internationales Stadionfest Berlin women’s 100m event in Germany.
Running out of lane four, Ahye produced an okay start among the eight other competing sprinters.
However, about 40m in, the 2014 Trinidad and Tobago sprint queen began to look in discomfort as she fell behind and was then forced to limp out the remaining distance to the finish line, placing ninth overall in a time of 17.81 seconds.
Winning gold was American Candyce McGrone in 11.11s while Ivorian sprinter, Marie-Josse Ta Lou (11.21s) grabbed silver and McGrone’s compatriot, Barbara Pierre (11.31s), settled for bronze.
Since July of last year, Ahye has been unable to maintain top form since sustaining a hamstring injury at a meet in Lucerne, Switzerland. The runner was forced to pull out of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and was unable to successfully defend her National women’s sprint title in June this year due to a slight injury even though she still competed.
Ahye has still produced several commendable showings over the past 12 months, with her most recent achievement of women’s 4x100m relay bronze at the World Championships.
Up to press time yesterday, it was still unclear if Ahye was seriously injured or just had a minor problem during the race.
Additionally, the only other TT athlete in IST AF action yesterday was National men’s 110m hurdles record holder, Mikel Thomas, who placed fifth overall in 13.72s.
Vying for honours out of lane four, Thomas had a good start but never seemed to capitalise as he tumbled over all ten hurdles.
Jamaican Andrew Riley (13.40s) captured the gold, followed by Bajan Shane Brathwaite (13.42s), Hungarian Balazs Baji (13.55s) and German Aleander John (13.68s) to complete the top four.

Michelle-Lee breaks two Reveille Indoor meet records (http://www.12thman.com/news/2015/12/12/TRACK_1212151036.aspx?path=track)

4th win of year: Michelle-Lee Ahye
COLLEGE STATION – Aggie frosh Jazmine Fray challenged the Texas A&M school record while winning the 1,000 meters in 2 minutes, 50.39 seconds during the eighth edition of the Reveille Invitational, which opened the indoor season in front of 1,327 fans inside the Gilliam Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
Another Aggie freshman, Donavan Brazier, set the meet record in the mile with a 4:07.86 clocking while A&M sophomore Audie Wyatt broke the pole vault meet record with a 17-5 clearance. Senior Daniel Martin improved his winning score in the pentathlon with a tally of 3,706 points.
"It's December and I talked to our team about being good in June," said Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry. "We're fortunate to be able to get on the track today and compete. We have this meet so athletes can figure out where they are as a result of the training they've done to this point. No matter how hard you train, though, we can see who is competitive. That's what we've seen today."
Meet records were also set by Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago in the women's 60 and 200 meters with times of 7.14 and 23.19, along with TCU's tandem of Ronnie Baker in the men's 60 (6.61) and Brianna McGhee in the 60 hurdles (8.26).
Winning the race in a meet record time of 2:50.39 left Fray trailing the school record mark of 2:49.01 set in 2003 by Angeles Pantoja during the Big 12 Championships.
Fray eclipsed the Reveille meet record of 2:52.66 set by Katie Willard last season. Willard claimed the women's mile in 5:00.34 this weekend ahead of teammates Laura Craig (5:02.62) and Katie Watson (5:03.23).
"I had a lot of confidence going into the race," noted Fray. "I definitely wanted to break the school record. That's what I was going for. I'm not disappointed that I missed it, I'm really happy with my performance. It was a really good race and I set a PR.
"This was my first meet for Texas A&M and my first time running in a Texas A&M uniform so I was so excited and I was ready to go."
Fray clipped off splits of 32.10, 35.23 (1:07.33), 35.36 (1:42.68), 35.02 (2:17.70) and 32.70 in achieving the victory over Houston's Ebony White (2:52.70). In the first lap, White led the field with a 31.87. Then Fray moved into the lead and held it for the remainder of the race.
"I wanted to go faster, so I took the lead and it felt really good," stated Fray, who is from Long Island, New York, holds career best times of 2:09.07 in the 800 and 4:37.85 in the 1,500 meters. "My 600m time was where I wanted it to be and in my last 400 I knew I really wanted to kick as much as I could.
"It's really good going forward for my 800. Even though it's only an extra 200m, it gives you the strength and endurance as well as confidence to know what you can go through in the 800."
Michigan native Brazier had a spirited race over the mile distance with his teammates as the top five Aggie finishers bettered the 4:14.22 standard set last season by Sam Houston's Jeffrey Moore.
Brazier edged Riba, who is from Illinois, at the line, 4:07.86 to 4:08.17, as Hector Hernandez finished third in 4:11.34. Nathan Ricketts (4:13.13) and Ian Cazares (4:13.85) battled for the fourth position. The time by Brazier ranks No. 14 on the A&M all-time list while Riba missed his indoor PR by just a tenth of a second.
Josh Hernandez served as rabbit in the race, covering the first two laps in 58.89 and going through the halfway point in 2:00.32. Then Brazier led the field the remainder of the race, posting 3:07.38 with two laps remaining. He ran the last two laps in 60.05 and final lap in 28.72.
"We had a rabbit for the mile and had set a time of 1:57, but it felt too fast," said Brazier, who has career bests of 4:07.15 in the mile and 1:47.55 in the 800. "I like to sit and kick. With the distance guys we had in the race I knew if I could stay with them through three-quarters of the race then I could outkick them. But I ended up leading the latter half of the race."
Brazier later ran a 47.46 leg on the Aggie 4x400 relay, repeating a double he did on a regular basis in high school.
"Usually during conference or regionals I would combine the two," explained Brazier. "Today I left it all out there for the mile, because I knew that was my individual race. My main goal in the 4x400 was to get out and beat Houston and TCU. I want to get my split down, though, 47.4 isn't going to cut it at Texas A&M."
A game of passing heights occurred in the pole vault as facility record holder Jason Colwick opted to skip 17-5 and 17-9 after he made 17-1. Wyatt had made first attempt clearances at 16-7 ¼, 17-1 and 17-5 before missing three attempts at 17-9. When Colwick missed his three attempts at 18-3, the victory went to Wyatt with Colwick runner-up.
Wyatt's 17-5 mark improved the meet record of 17-0 ¾ set by Taylor Reed of UTSA in 2012. Aggie Carl Johansson finished third (16-7 ¼) with Jacob Wooten fourth (16-1 ¼) while Chase Wolfle no heighted at 16-7 ¼.
"I'll take 17-5 any day for my first meet," said Wyatt, who has an indoor best of 17-6 ¼. "Today I felt really good and having Jason here really pushed me. I came into the meet hoping to beat him or keep up with him since he is a good competitor.
"I think he got a little ahead of himself passing those heights. It kind of freaked me out when he skipped from 17-1 to 18-3. I got a little ahead of myself and I asked coach if I could skip too, but I'm glad I didn't. I stayed the course."
Martin closed out his pentathlon victory with a strong run in the 1,000 meters as he scored 984 points from a 2:30.32 clocking, which would have placed him third in the open 1,000m.
Scoring 3,706 points placed Martin ahead of teammates Nathan Hite (3,493) and Ben Zook (3,350). Martin ran 8.41 (881 points) in the 60 hurdles, had a 21-3 ¼ (693) in the long jump, 37-5 ¼ (571) in the shot put, and cleared 5-8 ½ (577) in the high jump.
Shamier Little ran second leg of the winning 4x400 relay for the A group of Aggies, splitting 53.06 in moving the squad into first place. The relay, which won in 3:39.65, included Krystal Sparling (55.30), Little, Jazmine Fray (55.17) and Aaliyah Brown (56.13).
The B group of Aggies, posting a 3:43.03, finished second with a crew of Jarra Owens (55.78), Briyahna Desrosiers (53.64), Diamond Spaulding (56.27) and Brenessa Thompson (57.35). TCU finished third in 3:43.27 with Houston fourth in 3:47.15.
Track Station, comprised of Aggie All-Americans, won the men's 4x400 relay in 3:07.11 with the foursome of Deon Lendore (46.52), Bralon Taplin (45.74), Demetrius Pinder (46.12) and Shavez Hart (48.73).
A second group of Track Station ran 3:10.93 to win another section of the 4x400 with squad that included former Houston Cougar Errol Nolan (47.54) along with A&M All-Americans Gregory Coleman (47.45), Carlyle Roudette (48.30) and Ricky Babineaux (47.66).
Texas A&M men posted a time of 3:08.38 to defeat Houston (3:12.91) and a second Aggie unit (3:13.20) while TCU ran the first three legs of the relay. The first Aggie crew consisted of Deon Hickey (47.40), Fred Kerley (46.72), Donavan Brazier (47.46) and Richard Rose (46.80).
The second A&M squad included Ilolo Izu (48.34), Hector Hernandez (48.25), Robert Grant (48.33), and Gaines Kinsey (48.28).
A pair of winning Aggies moved to No. 3 on the A&M women's all-time lists in the pole vault and weight throw.
Sara Kathryn Stevens set an indoor PR by clearing 13-4 ¼ (4.07) to become the No. 3 performer with the No. 8 performance at A&M. Stevens' series included first attempt clearances at 11-6 ¼ and 12-4, two attempts at 12-8 and a first make of 12-11 ½.
In the weight throw Carissa van Beek set a South African record with her effort of 62-4 (19.00) in defeating teammate Alison Ondrusek (60-8 ¾) and TCU's Paola Miranda (58-0 ¼). The previous best by van Beek was 60-0 ¼ (18.29) she set in the SEC Championships last season.
Shaina Burns won the shot put with a mark of 46-8 (14.22) that moved her to No. 10 on the A&M all-time list and would have scored her 809 points in a multi-event. She finished ahead of Aggie frosh Celine Markert (44-5 ½).
Burns and Annie Kunz competed in a few events that are in a pentathlon during the Reveille Invitational. In the 60 hurdles Kunz ran 8.78 with Burns posting a 9.36. Kunz cleared 5-5 ¾ in the high jump with Burns getting over 5 ¼. Kunz finished her day with a 56.15 carry on an Aggie 4x400 relay.
First and second place combos for A&M also included Samuel McSwain and Garrett Gragin as both cleared 6-10 ¼ in the high jump, Jennifer Madu (7.44) and Krystal Sparling (7.45) in the 60, Aaliyah Brown (23.66) and Diamond Spaulding (23.69) in the 200, Efrain Hernandez (2:28.49) and Gaines Kinsey (2:28.66) in the 1,000m, as well as Jeffrey Prothro (23-0) and Lindon Victor (22-8 ½) in the long jump.

Meet was held at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at the McFerrin Athletic Center, Texas A&M University ~ College Station, TX.
Hopefully MLA can remain injury free this season and don't peak too soon or otherwise can peak twice (first for National Champs and second time also for Rio).
Hopefully MLA and her handlers manage her racing programme carefully so that she doesn't over run and so can avoid injuries for the 2016 season as we head into Rio.
MLA recently visited the MJP Centre in Texas and should have gotten some professional recommendations for working on her body weaknesses to help her avoid any serious injuries during the 2016 season.
Hopefully 2016 is going to be the season that we can finally get to see MLA at her very best while she avoids over-racing and injury as Rio gets closer.
In fact if all goes well I think MLA is capable of running 10.7x in 100m and 21.xx in the 200m but she will need to avoid injury for the whole season to get down to those times.

T&T quartermiler Lalonde Gordon, placed second in the 400 metres at the Millrose Games
T&T quartermiler Lalonde Gordon had to settle for second place in the men’s 400 metres event at the 109th NYRR Millrose Games in Manhattan, New York, yesterday while Michelle-Lee Ahye just missed out on finishing among the top three finishers in the 60m dash at the IAAF World Indoor Tour in Glasgow.
Gordon, a double bronze Olympic medallist, completed the race in 45.51 seconds behind Grenadian Bralon Taplin (45.35) in a tight finish. Taplin is the world leader in the men's 400m when he ran 45.20 seconds last month. Third was Adidas’ David Verburg in 46.27.
At the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix, Ahye placed fourth in 7.16. Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers won with a stadium record of 7.10. Second was Jamaican Elaine Thompson in 7.14 and Ewa Swoboda of Poland was third in 7.15. Ahye had placed second in the heats, clocking 7.14 to follow Schippers (7.11) to the line.
The local sprinter is coming off a second place finish in the women’s 200m at the Globen Galan, another IAAF World Indoor Tour meeting in Stockholm on Wednesday. Jeneba Tarmoh of the United States won, finishing in 23.38, a hundredth of a second ahead of Ahye, with 2013 world youth champion Irene Ekelund third in 24.05.

Positive is the start is better compared to last year. One of the most talented sprinters in terms of ability it just needs to be harnessed. I'm no expert but I think she could still be more efficient technique wise. Main thing is staying healthy though. If she can stay healthy whole season it will be promising.

To answer your question MLA ran 7.10 before in 2014 and has held the Indoor 60m NR since then.
Tonight she equalled her PB and the Indoor 60m NR which she holds.
This is a good sign for her at the Portland Indoor World Championships. If MLA can stay healthy and make the Final and can keep her current form or even improve then she could medal. However MLA will probably need to set a new 60m PB and NR in the Final if she plans to medal as Dafne Schippers, Marie-Josee Ta Lou & a few others probably plan to run faster than 7.10 in the 60m Final if/when they get there.
MLA's start is improving though. Have a look at her 60m performances from this weekend at this link:

Go to 3:15 in recording for MLA in her 60m Heat in which she clocked 7.11 for MR
Go to 68:50 in recording for MLA in her 60m Final in which she clocked 7.10 for another MR and ePB
Go to 75:45 in recording for MLA being interviewed after winning 60m Final.

Michelle-Lee Ahye: T&T 60m Indoor National Record Holder being interviewed after Final
Michelle-Lee Ahye equalled her own national record at the Jablonec Indoor Gala, in the Czech Republic, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago track star stopped the clock at 7.10 seconds to grab women’s 60 metres gold, matching the time she had produced in the semifinal round at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, two years ago.
Though unchallenged in yesterday’s dash, Ahye was able to produce her best. Her closest challenger in the championship race was Maja Mihalinec, the Slovenian snatching silver in 7.24 seconds. Germany’s Lisa Mayer bagged bronze in 7.35.
Ahye signalled a warning in the qualifying round, winning heat one in a fast 7.11 seconds. She followed up with an even faster run in the final.
Ahead of the Jablonec Indoor Gala, Ahye was joint-eighth on the 2016 world indoor performance list at 7.12 seconds. Yesterday’s 7.10 scorcher pushed her up to joint-sixth, alongside Great Britain’s Asha Philip.
Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers is at the top of the global list at 7.00 seconds. Ivory Coast sprinter Marie Josee Ta Lou is second with a 7.06 clocking, while Poland’s Ewa Swoboda and German Tatjana Pinto are joint-third at 7.07. American Barbara Pierre (7.09) is fifth.
Ahye has been very busy this season, competing 13 times in the 60m dash and three times in the 200m. At the end of her first meet, in Texas, USA, on December 12, the 23-year-old sprinter was the world-leader in both events--7.14 in the 60m and 23.19 in the longer sprint. She is currently joint-10th on the global 200m performance list with that 23.19 run.

Michelle-Lee Ahye versus her rivals in 60m Dash at IAAF World Indoor Champs 2016
T&T sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye set a new national record of 7.09 seconds to make it into the semi-finals of the women’s 60 metres at the IAAF World Indoor Championships at the Oregon Convention Centre in Portland, USA, yesterday.
Ahye won heat four with ease, finishing ahead of Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith (7.12) and Gloria Hooper of Italy, who ran a personal best of 7.29 to take the final automatic qualification spot.
“I’m very happy about it. I was expecting it to happen, but not in the first round,” Ahye was quoted saying on the IAAF website.
Kelly-Ann Baptiste ran her season’s best 7.20 to finish third in the first heat of the dash which was good enough to take her into the semi-finals and hopefully into the final. Both races were scheduled for last night.
Quartermilers Deon Lendore and Lalonde Gordon both advance to the final of the men’s 400m event. Lendore crossed second in the first semi-final in a time of 46.23. He followed Grenadian Bralon Taplin (45.38) to the line with Kenya’s Boniface Mweresa running a season’s best of 46.33 to take the third and the final qualification spot.
Gordon held on for third in the second semi-final in a time of 46:03 to nab his place in the final. He was also quoted as saying afterwards: “There’s still work to do.” With both Gordon and Lendore making the finals of the men's 400m dash, which was set for late last night, the quartet of Rondell Sorrillo, Jarrin Solomon, Ade Alleynne Forte and Machel Cedenio, in that order did well to advance to the final of the men's 4x400m relay when they finished third in heat one in a time of 3:07.83. The final is set for this evening.
Sorrillo failed to progress out of the 60m event, placing sixth in 6.68 in the first semifinals heat. Eventual winner was Trayvon Bromell, who became the first US athlete to claim the men’s world indoor 60m title in six years with a personal best of 6.47.
Bromell, who almost didn't make it through to the final at last weekend's US Indoor Championships after finishing fourth in his semifinal, was the first man out of the blocks in lane three and maintained his lead throughout to prevail over Jamaica’s Asafa Powell (6.50) and Ramon Gittens of Barbados (6.51), respectively.
Over on the field, Ayanna Alexander fouled on all three her attempts in the women’s triple jump event. Yulimar Rojas only got in one valid jump but it was all that was needed for the Spain-based jumper, coached by Cuban long jump great Ivan Pedroso, to get Venezuela’s first world indoor title. Her second round effort of 14.41m notched up her country’s first medal at this competition of any hue.
Late last night, “Sportswoman of the Year” Cleopatra Borel was to compete in the final of the women's shot put and hurdler Mikel Thomas will be hoping to clear all his hurdles to get into the semifinals when he was to run in lane two of heat four.

Ahye to release official statement
By Narissa Fraser (Newsday).
IN a now-deleted Instagram post, the wife of TT athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye, Chelsea Renee, shared what appears to be a mugshot of Ahye with the caption, "Just because I have time today." (Some comments deleted.) I pray God gives me the strength to get through this time in my life. I don't regret anything in my life but marrying you was most definitely one of them."
The account has also since been deactivated.
The couple were married in May 2018 in the US.
Speaking with Newsday, Ahye's manager Afeisha Wright said an official statement on the social media post will be made via the athlete's Facebook page this afternoon.
In 2018, Ahye won gold in the women’s 100-metre final at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, becoming the first TT athlete to do so. She also won the women’s 200 metre "B" race at the Spitzen Leichtathletik track meet in Switzerland on Tuesday.

She WAS charged….
NARISSA FRASER
TT OLYMPIC athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye has been charged with domestic violence in the US.
Ahye was charged with ‘assault causes bodily injury, family violence’. Speaking with Newsday, Public Information Officer attached to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Patricia Gutierrez, confirmed the charges saying, “We do have her (Ahye’s) case on file. She was arrested on June 20 but she was actually released the next day. She got out on bail, US $2,500.”
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Ahye’s wife Chelsea Renee shared what appeared to be a mugshot of Ahye, saying, “Just because I have time today.” (Some comments deleted.) I pray God gives me the strength to get through this time in my life. I don’t regret anything in my life but marrying you was most definitely one of them.”
Her account has since been deactivated.
Amber Norton, an office administrator at the Williamson County District Court told Newsday Ahye has not yet made a court appearance but is due to do so on August 6 at 9 am.
Ahye, however, is denying these claims. In a Facebook post yesterday afternoon, Ahye wrote, “I am aware of the information that was brought to the public’s attention. My family and I appreciate the concern and support that we have been receiving. No charges was (sic) laid against me. I am highly saddened and hurt by the situation and wishes (sic) nothing but the best to Chelsea and her future endeavours.”
She added that she is focusing on the upcoming European circuit and is asking the public to respect her family’s privacy at this time.
Ahye won gold in the women’s 100-metre final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, becoming the first TT athlete to do so. She also won the women’s 200 metre “B” race at the Spitzen Leichtathletik track meet in Switzerland on Tuesday.
She also won the 2017 and 2018 First Citizens Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year, as well as the 2017 and 2018 TTOC (TT Olympic Committee) Sportswoman of the Year.

This is interesting especially as the Athletics segment of the Pan Am Games is due to start on 6th August which is the same day that Ahye who claims not to have been charged is due to appear in court.
Would the Public Information Officer attached to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Patricia Gutierrez, give false information about someone being charged and them having their case on file?
Also if Ahye was not charged then why would she have spent a night in custody and be released the next day after bail was paid and then be ordered to appear in court on 6th August?
Something is not adding up here but we will know for sure by 6th August if Ahye was not charged as she would not be required to appear in court on that date and will naturally be in Lima with the TTO Pan Am team.

No charges laid against Ahye says estranged wife
Chelsea Renee, the now estranged wife of T&T’s Olympic athlete Michelle-Lee Ahye, has admitted that Ahye was arrested by police because of a marital dispute but added that she did not press charges.
Last week Renee placed a now deleted post on social media with what appeared to be a mugshot of Ahye, suggesting the couple had split.
“I posted something that I should not have. It was out of anger and I let my feelings get the best of me. Michelle and I did get into an altercation and the police were called. Michelle was taken to jail, and I just want to clarify I did not press charges on Michelle… at all,” she told Guardian Media on Sunday.
Renee also said they have now been separated.
“We have been trying to work on our marriage and things have been rocky. We are separated,” she said.
Reports emerged Thursday that the Ahye was arrested on June 20 in Houston, Texas, accused of domestic abuse. She was released on June 21.

TTOC challenges Ahye’s 2-year ban
BY NARISSA FRASER (NEWSDAY).
WITH five months to go until the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, TT sprinter Michelle Lee Ahye may be able to represent this country if an appeal filed by the TT Olympic Committee (TTOC) is successful.
The Commonwealth Games gold-medallist received a two-year ban by the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) on January 25 for “whereabouts failure” – a violation of its anti-doping rules – after missing three drug tests over a 12-month period.
She missed tests on June 23, 2018, February 23, 2019 and April 19, 2019. She claimed she was unable to hear knocks on her door and the ringing of her apartment’s doorbell for the final test which led to her penalisation.
But the TTOC has now filed an appeal against the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
TTOC attorney Dave Williams told Newsday that after being informed of the IAAF’s decision, the TTOC had 30 days to challenge it.
The appeal was filed on Friday.
The committee now has 15 days to submit its arguments against the decision.
Williams said, “We aren’t going into details but certainly we’re challenging the number of years given to her.
“If we can get at least one year taken away from it, that’s fine.”
But he says the aim is to reverse the ban entirely.
He is seeking an expedited hearing because “if CAS treats with it as they normally (deal with) matters, it may not be heard in time.”
Asked how the athlete has been doing, he said, “There’s not much we can do. She’s operating like normal.
“I can’t really comment in terms of her mental state but as far as I’m aware, she’s taking it as it comes.”
-
Anyway you look at it. It is a damn shame! little countries cannot get a break. But Michelle is old enough to know the severity for missing 2 tests.

She just ran herself right back onto the Olympic team yesterday.
I give her full credit because coming back from a ban, no sponsor, personal life in tatters - that's to be saluted.
Fourth yesterday here in Miramar in 11.04 wind-legal.
If only we had prepared our relay teams properly since 2015 and could be looking seriously at being a 4x100m threat in Tokyo.
Nothing other than a dropped baton or DQ can break up the top three now - Jamaica USA UK.
