I know de national teams have to use de stadium, but ent we have about 5 stadiums in T&T?

De Under 20 men tournament should be played in Tobago.

So de Super League games postponing too?

Sam, Manny Ramjohn is still offline. As soon as it is ready to be used, Ato Boldon will be unavailable for1 year. Larry Gomes lights still need to be repaired so no evening games there. Hasely Crawford is increasingly difficult to secure. Marvin Lee is in poor condition and I believe Dwight Yorke is still unsafe.

There is no community field that is suitable for Pro League football, either because of it's condition or that you cannot secure it to take admission fees.

Basically, SPORTT is doing a very poor job of providing and maintaining football pitches. Compare this to how cricket fields are maintained.

We have been in pre season training since 7th July expecting a mid August start date. 6 weeks pre season is a good period. Now that will stretch to 10 weeks. If the Pro League could find a suitable venue, of course they would play earlier, clubs want to play, but what choices do we have?

So FS, de Mahaica Oval is pro league standard?

So de Marvin Lee, Dwight Yorke, Ato Boldon, Manny, Guaracara Park, St Anthonys Ground and Hasley Crawford etc etc all gone through?

Ah next thing, how de ass they go run de pro league together (same time) with de SSFL ?

Ent de SSFL go dust them out and take all de support.

SSFL ran alongside Pro League last two years.

Mahaica Oval is ok if Point are there, but there are no lights so it's not ideal.

Not sure about Guaracara Park, St Anthonys Ground, but I know it's difficult to book those fields for friendly games at the moment. Gilbert Park and Phoenix Park would be great if the field was upgraded and protected.

Also, remember there will be 14 games played in the women's tournament from August 19th to Sept 1st. But, the teams also need training facilities. We've been kicked out of Ato for that period, despite having booked our sessions en block for the entire season.

What you have to understand is that the League and clubs make bookings well in advance and then, usually at short notice, we're told that the facility is unavailable. It doesn't matter how well we plan ahead. An example would be the national team having a camp. They can't tell us if, when or where they want camps throughout the season. Yet when they want one, we get pushed out, despite having a booking. So, how can we issue a fixture list when we don't know if we can adhere to it. If it was one or two games, then fine, but it happens more frequently.

Also, clubs and league are not receiving any funding from govt as everything suspended due to LifeSport inquiry. I imagine that the new Minister of Sport will want everyone to reapply for funding before he approves anything.

F.Y.I. FS. The Board members of SPORTT were fired yesterday. So that entity is currently inactive. Find another entity to blame for doing a poor job of maintaining the stadiums and all the other football grounds around the country. Let's see. You have the MOS, your boys in the TTFA, and you have some fellas from Laventille. Take your pick.

There is a concern that the new MoS may not approve any subvention. There was never a cabinet note, just a discretionary grant by Anil. Currently, I imagine that aside from Central, Army and Police, everyone would be very worried, including the league itself.
However, I feel confident that the MoS would see the benefits in assisting professional football.

not sure about FIFA approval for Mahaica. No floodlights, poor seating, poor changing rooms etc? Can't see it meeting FIFA standards. But it's a lovely surface and I know a new stand has been under construction for several years. Could be superb if it's completed properly.

Well, KD, that was my point. Who can you blame now? Can't blame MOS other than for poor management and oversight of SPORTT. I don't have any boys in TTFA (aside from Banter Banton lol) and I have no idea who the "fellas from Laventille" are.

But now we will have a clean start with SPORTT, perhaps things will gradually improve.

Pro League gets $5M
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express)

THE Digicel Pro League is set to operate for at least the next two years following recent Government approval of $5 million in government funding. Dexter Skeene, the Pro League’s chief executive officer (CEO) on Saturday confirmed that the local professional league had obtained  funding approval prior to the recent resignation of former Sport Minister Anil Robert, and the firing of the Board of the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT).

The Pro League is the top professional football league in the Caribbean, employing footballers from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, St Kitts-Nevis, Antigua, St Lucia,  and even as far as the US, Brazil and Colombia.

However, professional football in the Caribbean is still in the development stages and could not survive without financial support of government and major sponsors such as Digicel and First Citizens Bank. “Government has approved two more years of support for the Pro League,” Skeene confirmed in response to Express enquiries. “That would amount to five million dollars over two years.”

The Pro League is set to begin its 14th consecutive season next month, even without significant support from spectators and substantial financial sponsorship as-associated with major leagues. Skeene said it would be difficult to sustain the league without financial help.

“Just like the support we receive from all our partners, government support is essential for the functioning of the Pro League and we are very appreciative of it,” Skeene said.

Skeene, a former national footballer who formed part of the storied Strike Squad, also begged for continued support from government for clubs, some of which benefit from community funding from the Sportt Company.

Skeene also revealed that the start of the 2014-2015 season of the Digicel Pro League had now been pushed back a month, to facilitate two international tournaments being hosted by Trinidad and Tobago.  The  Pro League will officially kick off on September 20, with the staging of the Digicel Charity Shield between last season’s champions W Connection FC and  2013-2014 runners-up Central FC.  Three days later, the first round of matches begin on September 23.

“We have nine teams confirmed and looking forward to Guaya United becoming the tenth,”  added Skeene, while explaining that last season’s National Super League champions Guaya United  will soon to appear before the Pro League board to get final approval to compete in the competition this season.

Meanwhile, he explained that the re-adjustment in Pro League fixtures comes because of competition for the availability of various grounds, to stage competing events. Trinidad and Tobago are due to first host the inaugural Women’s Caribbean Cup from August 19-25, followed by the final round of the Caribbean Football Union  U-20 Men’s tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Trinidad & Tobago from September 10-19.  “The board met last week and decided that we would push back the season a bit,” Skeene added. “Rather than compete for venues,  we have decided to continue to support the national team programmes.”

Good, de question now is,  who pocket is going in?

Or how they going and invest ir?

Somebody need to tell Sleene. Without fixtures and sticking to them only makes it worst for de league crowds.

Dont matter what excuse he have.

Its not good for de league.

Pro League likely to join SportsMAX’s lineup.
T&T Guardian Reorts.

A new three-year agreement between the T&T Pro League (TTPL) and Digicel (T&T) Limited was announced during the launch of the 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League at the Hasely Crawford Stadium VIP Lounge, Mucurapo, yesterday.

And having also acquired majority ownership and control of St Lucia-based International Media Content Limited (IMC), parent company of regional sports broadcaster, SportsMAX, this month, Digicel (T&T) Limited’s Strategic Partnerships and Marketing Manager, Wendy Alleyne said that Digicel looks forward to also integrate the SportsMax partnership into the Pro League.

Huge, but only a fraction of developments revealed on the heels of the new Digicel Pro League (DPL) season which kicks off today (Friday September 26) with a double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya when St Ann’s Rangers meet last year’s runner-up Central FC from 6 pm and Police FC against four-time winners San Juan Jabloteh from 8 pm.

Round One Match Day One will continue tomorrow (Saturday 27 September) from 3.30 pm with Point Fortin Civic hosting two-time runner-up Caledonia AIA at the Mahaica Oval, and simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Japs North East Stars will face the Defence Force.

The DPL, with a prize structure amounting to over $2,000,000, will consist of three rounds over the next eight months, and coincide with the First Citizens Cup, Toyota Classic, Lucozade Sport Goal Shield and Digicel Charity Shield knockout tournaments. The incentives for teams to compete at the highest level and improve their standard of play have also received a boost as explained by T&T Pro League

Chief Executive Officer, Dexter Skeene during the launch.

“One of the League’s main objectives is to increase the attendances,” said Skeene.

“We understand the importance that filling the stands plays in contributing to the success of the League. The brand must become synonymous with certain core values. The brand Digicel TT Pro League must convey excitement, energy, quality, excellence and innovation.

“This year we have several new initiatives to assist in achieving these goals.

“First let me state that the first prize is still one million dollars. This year we have added a new dimension where we will now present a monetary prize of $35,000 for the winner of each round of the league competition. In other words each round will have its own table and its own winner [separate from the regular league table]. It will add a new level excitement and give all teams an opportunity to win a different competition at all stages of the season. In addition, each round will be named after one of our heroes who we will always remember.”

Each round winner will receive $35,000 and the Round One Rawle Fletcher Cup, Round Two Akeem Adams Cup, and Round Three Kevon Carter Cup.

Fletcher, 34, who had served the Defence Force football team, was murdered on December 22 in Couva, and eight days later, former W Connection and Central FC player, Adams, 22, died at the Varosmajori Heart Clinic in Budapest after months of battling to stay alive following a massive heart attack on September 25, only seven weeks after he joined Hungarian club Ferencvaros.

The local football fraternity plunged into mourning again on February 27 when another Trinidad and Tobago international Carter, 30, died of a heart attack following training with his Defence Force football team.

Last season Stuart Charles-Fevrier led W Connection to five titles, the Digicel Pro League, the T&T Football Federation FA Trophy, Toyota Classic, Digicel Pro Bowl and Charity Shield and four more titles to defend as well as competing in the Caribbean Club Championship, the qualifier to the Concacaf Champions League, the St Lucian-born coach said that winning the match will surely boost his side’s confidence.

Central FC won the two other titles at stake last year, the First Citizens Cup and Lucozade Sport Goal Shield

The season consists of three rounds over the next eight months. There will also be the four knockout competitions—the First Citizens Cup, Toyota Classic, Lucozade Sport Goal Shield and Digicel Charity Shield.

The first round of matches kicks off tonight with a doubleheader at the Marvin Lee Stadium, where National Under-20 star Kadeem Corbin is expected to be in action for St. Ann’s Rangers against Central FC from 6 p.m., and Police FC also meet San Juan Jabloteh from 8 p.m.

Tomorrow, Point Fortin Civic host Caledonia AIA from 3.30 p.m. at the Mahaica Oval, and simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Japs North East Stars will face the Defence Force.

This season, plans are in the making for a weekly television programme featuring the TTPL, while Digicel, through its CatchOn Sports, will highlight the up and coming players, as well as team stats, not only via traditional media, but online and as a CatchOn Sports mobile app.

Having also acquired majority ownership and control of St Lucia-based International Media Content Limited (IMC), parent company of regional sports broadcaster, SportsMAX, this month, Digicel (T&T) Limited’s Strategic Partnerships and Marketing Manager, Wendy Alleyne said that Digicel is looking forward to also integrate the Pro League into the SportsMax partnership.

Incentives for teams to compete at the highest level and improve their standard of play have also received a boost as explained by Trinidad and Tobago Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene during the launch.

“First let me state that the first prize is still one million dollars,”Skeene said. “This year we have added a new dimension where we will now present a monetary prize of $35,000 for the winner of each round of the league competition.”

“In addition, each round will be named after one of our heroes who we will always remember. Each round winner will receive $35,000 and the round one (winner will receive the) Rawle Fletcher Cup, round two.... Akeem Adams Cup, and round three... Kevon Carter Cup.”

A new three-year agreement between the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League (TTPL) and Digicel (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited was announced during the launch of the 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League on Thursday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium VIP Lounge.

SportsMax, available in 23 countries across the Caribbean, is the only indigenous 24-hour dedicated sports cable channel featuring a strong mix of international and regional sports content. Its large inventory of coveted content includes the Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions League, West Indies cricket, the Indian Premier League, and the IAAF Grand Prix.

Huge, but only a fraction of developments revealed on the heels of the new Digicel Pro League (DPL) season which kicks off on Friday 26 September with a double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium when St. Ann’s Rangers meet Central FC from 6 pm and Police FC against San Juan Jabloteh from 8 pm.

Round One Match Day One will continue on Saturday 27 September from 3.30 pm with Point Fortin Civic hosting Caledonia AIA at the Mahaica Oval, and simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Japs North East Stars will face the Defence Force.

The DPL, with a prize structure amounting to over $2,000,000, will consist of three rounds over the next eight months, and coincide with the First Citizens Cup, Toyota Classic, Lucozade Sport Goal Shield and Digicel Charity Shield knockout tournaments.

The incentives for teams to compete at the highest level and improve their standard of play have also received a boost as explained by TTPL CEO Dexter Skeene during the launch.

The local football fraternity plunged into mourning again on February 27when another Trinidad and Tobago international Carter, 30, died of a heart attack following training with his Defence Force football team.

This season plans are in the making for a weekly television programme featuring the TTPL, while Digicel, through its CatchOn Sports, will highlight the up and coming players, as well as team stats, not only via traditional media, but online and as a CatchOn Sports mobile app.

Looking forward to a new and exciting season the TTPL CEO said, “Let us all commit and dedicate ourselves to see it as our responsibility and duty to conduct the business of the TT Pro League with ethics and integrity. Let us be honest, fair and transparent in everything we do. Let us have a great and enjoyable 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League.”

Players and coaches will continue to be rewarded according to Skeene, with Wendy’s and Blue Waters remaining as title sponsors of the Player of the Month and Coach of the Month respectively.

Skeene praised Digicel for believing in the TTPL, which also has the support of the Ministry of Sport, who he said understands the importance of the TTPL to the development of football, youth and communities in T&T.

He added, “For the past 10 years, over $150 million have been invested by our club owners and teams and their sponsors. That’s not only Government funding, and let me remind that the original support for the TT Pro League was through the Ministry of Trade, as the support for the Pro League was about supporting a new industry.

“I make bold to say that the Pro League will remain resilient and fearless in our pursuit of developing a sustainable, dynamic and vibrant professional league. We remain pioneers and therefore accept that the way forward will be difficult. But we will not be discouraged nor will we give up. Our vision for professional football is very clear. We know where we are going and what we have to do to get there.”

Skeene was also thrilled to announce that W Connection and Central FC will play several games this season at the Gilbert Park Recreation Ground in Couva “where a more intimate and exciting atmosphere is created”, while Point Fortin Civic will continue to use the Civic Centre, and that North East Stars are exploring the use of a facility in their area.

D/Force, Caledonia register opening DPL wins on enemy turf.
ttproleague.com.

Larry Gomes Stadium, MALABAR - Richard Roy converted a stoppage time penalty to lift the Defence Force to a 1-0 win over Japs North East Stars in their 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League (DPL) opening match on Saturday.

What seemed destined for a goalless end, changed in the 90th minute when referee Cecil Hinds pointed to the spot after Jamali Garcia's diving header, off a Ross Russell Jr corner, struck the arm of Stars' midfielder Jayson Joseph near the goal-line.

Joseph was shown a yellow card and a red card followed to midfielder Jeromie Williams, ejected by Hinds for dissent.

Roy, who had earlier replaced forward Devorn Jorsling in the 76th minute, stepped to the task and confidently hit to the left of goalkeeper Cleon John for the late Round One Match Day One winner.

Simultaneously at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin, home side Point Fortin Civic surrendered to a 2-1 defeat against Caledonia AIA.

Civic took a 1-0 advantage in the 48th minute through a strike by midfielder Akeem Redhead, but Caledonia fired back twice in a space of nine minutes to take a 2-1 lead which lasted till the end.

Caledonia midfielders Purnell Schultz, in the 50th minute, and Keyon Edwards, in the 58th minute, doing the damage on enemy soil.

North East Stars meanwhile, weren't far from home when the welcomed Defence Force east, at the Malabar venue.

The Stars, led by coach Angus Eve, a former soldier, dominated chances but failed to beat new Defence Force goalie Andre Marchan.

Marchan, a former Trinidad and Tobago youth and Under-23 goalie, starred on his Defence Force debut.

Starting ahead of veteran goalkeeper Kevin Graham and Sheldon Clarke, Marchan was up to the task whenever called upon.

The 24-year-old was at full stretch midway through the first half when he pushed over a Kennedy Hinkson free kick and later thwarted a Joseph attempt.

Marchan made another take in the 74th minute when Stars’ substitute forward Tyrone Charles failed to put enough height on a chipped attempt towards goal.

Three minutes later Charles whipped in a free-kick but Marchan was again at his best, pushing the attempt wide before gathering a low return cross by Neveal Hackshaw.

But it was new Stars recruit Taryk Sampson that wasted the best opportunity in the 61st minute, heading over-bar off substitute Kareem Richardson's perfect cross from the right.

North East Stars will next travel to the Mahaica Oval on Saturday 4 October against Point Fortin Civic as both sides chase their first win of the season, and simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Defence Force and Police FC will meet in a clash of the forces.

San Juan Jabloteh, coming off last Friday's goalless draw against Police, will tackle St. Ann's Rangers from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday 3 October in the first match of a double header, which features a Couva derby between last season's DPL champions W Connection and runners-up Central FC.

Two Saturdays ago W Connection edged Central 1-0 to retain the Digicel Charity Shield, but the "Sharks", led by new coach Zoran Vranes, were superb in their opening league match last Friday by hammering Rangers 7-0.

Order a 2014/2015 Season Pass today for just $300. Your pass allows you entry to all league & knockout matches. Click here (http://www.ttproleague.com/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=3) to order, or Call 1-868-645-4489.

Good idea and GREAT price. However, with the fixtures changing frequently I see a problem waiting to happen.

Take for instance, the very first game of the season was carded for the Ato Boldon Stadium but was moved to the Marvin Lee without sufficient notice.

This idea will hit the ground running if they continue with this path.

We need to fix the tweets and then all these sort of things will work accordingly.

....And the Central F.C. vs W.Connection fixture for this weekend is postponed. Was going to be at Gilbert Park, but we now found out that it is booked out for a fete or sports day or something.

The change of venue last Friday was because Ato Boldon decided that only one game could be played on Friday.

Again, this emphasises the fact that while the Pro League are trying to maintain fixtures, those responsible for venues are making the league look bad.

Wait, Ato Boldon decided? Ato owns the stadium?  :D

Well, what puzzle me is that they continue to play games in Jack Warner territory (Marvin Lee Stadium) and yet the teams are not allowed to use the national stadiums that belongs to the government.

I wonder if the league admin could approach the government and inquire how they can purchase or sign a long term lease for the Manny and Ato Boldon stadiums.

Furthermore, government teams like Police and Defence Force should have their own stadiums?

How come SSFL and Super League teams don't run into these problems.

The Central v Connection game was schedule for Friday at Ato Boldon, now they push it to Saturday at Gilbert Park and then found out it was postponed.

DF could play in Chagville, but nobody will go. Maybe a weekend outind down Chagville could pull the crowd. Police can play in the Baracks. They have a field on Ling Circular Rd. Maybe DF could play their also.

Actually, I believe is was the groundsman at Ato. Remember, all 6 Caribbean Cup fixtures will be played there, so I believe he didn't think that a double header would be good at this point.

The Central game was scheduled for Gilbert Park at our request. We were told it was available and began to organise the field. Then we found out last Thursday that the field had been booked a while ago for an event. We could have tried to play there on Tuesday 30th, but didn't think we would have enough time to organise security, bleachers etc.

Marvin Lee is usually available. One reason for this is that the surface is pretty bad.

School teams play at their schools, usually. Intercol is often prioritised over Pro League (go figure). Super League tends to play on community grounds, which are usually not too good.

It is worth noting that Stephen Hart (as well as Pro League coaches)  is often concerned about player safety on grounds such as Marvin Lee and Super League venues. In fact, Leston Paul would have started against Rangers on Friday if the game was at Ato or HCS, but it was felt that his slight injury could have considerably worsened if he caught his studs in the plastic pitch.

DF has links in Diego, and probably wouldn't mind playing up there either - they'd pull a crowd

Trickster Jorsling guides Army to revenge over Police; Baptiste goal separates Jabloteh from Rangers in 10-men affair.
ttproleague.com

Overlooked Trinidad and Tobago forward Devorn Jorsling scored a hattrick on Friday night as Defence Force outshot Police FC 4-2 in the second match of a 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

The 30-year-old Defence Force talisman opened the scoring just four minutes inside the match and added his second and third items in the second period against Police, who, ironically, defeated the “Tetron Boys” by the same score-line nearly five months ago in the semi-final round of last season’s Digicel Pro Bowl – the previous meeting between both sides.

“It’s a good feeling to score a hattrick against anyone,” Jorsling said after the match. “(…) more so against Police because there is a rivalry dating many years back. So to score a hattrick and come away with three points is a great feeling.”

Jorsling said that while his team have done relatively well over recent years, winning two Pro League titles (2010-2011 & 2012-2013) and the 2009 First Citizens Cup and the 2012 Digicel Pro Bowl, the ambition this season is to win at least two titles in the term.

He added, “I think our game was spot on although we missed some chances. We had a good week in training and when you prepare well, that’s the end result.”

Another “Soca Warrior” desirous of returning to international duty, Kerry Baptiste, lifted San Juan Jabloteh to a 1-0 win over St. Ann’s Rangers in the first match of the Round One Match Day Two double header at the Macoya venue which saw both sides reduced to 10-men.

Baptiste, the Pro League’s all-time record top scorer and 2009 TT Pro League Player of the Year, proved that his scoring ability is very much alive despite being tucked in midfield this season.

The 32-year-old Jabloteh midfielder broke the deadlock in the 44th minute with a perfectly executed strike from just inside the area after Rangers’ goalkeeper Christopher Biggette pushed out an Andell Noray attempt into the path of the Jabloteh captain.

Tobagonian forward Noray and Baptiste, both players involved in the goal, were replaced by in the 66th and 67th minutes respectively by Johan Peltier and Chike Sullivan by coach Keith Jeffrey but the score-line remained unchanged at the final blow of referee Keilon Bacchus’ whistle.

Bacchus however had to summon his red card on two occasions in the second half.

Jabloteh’s Jamaican right-back Adrian Reid was the first to be sent off for obscene language at an official, which was brought to Bacchus’ attention by assistant referee Caleb Wales near the 50th minute.

Rangers’ midfielder Emmanuel Joseph got his marching orders later on following a tackle on Shaquille Bertrand for his second yellow card of the match.

In the second match referee Keon Yorke was also forced to show a direct red card, ejecting Police FC defender Anton Hutchinson in stoppage time following a dangerous tackle on Defence Force defensive midfielder Dave Long.

Police were reduced to 10-men but Army’s extra man advantage didn’t have much time to take effect as the final whistle came a short while later.

In the end Jorsling, who was replaced by Richard Roy in the 69th minute, and company were celebrating full points in a match billed as the "Battle of the Forces".

Jorsling singlehandedly gave Defence Force the early 1-0 lead.

The 2011 Pro League Player of the Year worked his way across the area before letting off a right-footer into the roof of goalkeeper Adrian Foncette's net.

Jorsling then made up for failing to score from excellent opportunities in the 25th and 48th minutes by doubling the advantage 2-0 when he wrapping a left-footed strike around a hapless Foncette in the 54th minute from inside the area after he was picked out by Kerry Joseph.

Jorsling then completed his hattrick in the 61st minute for a comfortable 3-0 score-line.

“I think I still have what it takes to play at the Caribbean level,” explained Jorsling over his ambitions to return to the national team. “The most I can do is show the [national] coach (Stephen Hart) by scoring goals. I think he will be watching and I will keep working hard to score goals. And if the opportunity comes I will take it with both hands.”

Police reduced the deficit 1-3 in the 83rd minute when substitute Kenaz Williams smashed in a rebound after goalkeeper Andre Marchan denied Jameel Perry.

And before that, veteran midfielder Trent Noel had the “Lawmen” best tries: forcing a save out of Marchan from distance and curling a freekick inches wide of the far post.

However Defence Force’s Josimar Belgrave redeemed himself following three first half misses by getting on the end of a well-placed substitute Akeem Roach cross into the six yard area and putting it past Foncette for a 4-1 score five minutes from time.

Perry, who endured a miserable night, finally found the back of the net for Police in the 87th minute after latching onto a long pass forward but at that stage a 4-2 scoreline in favour of Defence Force, wasn’t enough to stage a comeback.

“I did say that I would field my best team,” said Defence Force assistant coach Marvin Gordon, who has been in charge during the absence of coach Ross Russell. “And I thought that the performance showed that. I thought we played total football and commanded the game from the first whistle to the last, but I think in the finishing aspect we let ourselves down in the first half. We picked up in the second half and ended with four goals although we gave away two easy ones.”

Connection kicks off Pro League defence today
T&T Guardian Reports

Reigning Digicel Pro League champion W Connection will begin defence of the league crown today when the “Savonnetta Boys” meet North East Stars, from 6 pm, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Round One Match Day Three.

“It’s about time and we are just happy to start,” said W Connection head coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier.

Connection sat out on the bye in Round One Match Day One, nearly a month ago, before its Round One Match Day Two fixture against rival and last season’s runner-up Central FC was postponed.

“We have been training and training and it has been frustrating for us watching the other teams compete in the league before we could start our defence,” continued the Connection coach.

“But we are definitely prepared. It doesn’t really matter who we are against on Tuesday because to win the league again we will have accumulate the most points. It does not matter whichever team we are against first or last.

What is important is that we get the better of whichever team we are against at any point in time,” said Charles-Fevrier, who led his side to five titles (League, FA Trophy, Toyota Classic, Lucozade Sport Goal Shield, Digicel Pro Bowl and Digicel Charity Shield) last season.

The 2013-2014 league champion is a 2-0 shock defeat against San Juan Jabloteh, on Friday, in the quarter-final round of the First Citizens Cup—a tournament it won six times, and the only other competitive match this season was a month ago (September 20) when coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier’s men edged rivals Central FC 1-0 to successfully defended their Charity Shield and maintain the honour for a third consecutive time.

“It was a disappointing night for us (last Friday),” explained Charles-Fevrier, over his team’s First Citizens Cup defeat against Jabloteh. “We played quality football but we made far too many mistakes at critical times and that was part of the reason for the defeat.”

He added,:“All credit to Jabloteh. They stood to their plan and dug deep. They also rode their luck when it came their way and it was a good victory for them.”

Jabloteh, unbeaten to date this season currently occupy second position on the 2014-2015 league standings. The club will also be in action on Tuesday in Round One Match Day Three action against Point Fortin Civic from 6 pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, followed by St Rangers’ clash with Police FC from 8 pm at the same venue, in a rematch of their First Citizens Cup quarter-final clash. And following the Connection-North East Stars clash from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium, rivals Central will welcome Caledonia AIA from 8 pm.

Tuesday’s league matches will also serve four teams the opportunity to sharpen up ahead of Friday’s (24 October) First Citizens Cup semi-final round at the Ato Boldon Stadium when Police FC go up against defending champion Central FC from 6 pm and North East Stars against two-time winners San Juan Jabloteh from 8.15 pm in chase of a place in the Final on Friday 31 October towards the title and $100,000 winners’ prize.

Depleted Central FC target Pro lead.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Despite missing three players due to national duties with the Soca Warriors at the 18th Caribbean Football Union Cup Finals in Jamaica, Central FC will be confident of reclaiming top spot in the Digicel T&T Pro League when it faces Police at Gilbert Park, Couva in a re-scheduled match from 3.30 pm.

The match is the lone encounter on schedule and will be a repeat of last month’s First Citizens Cup semifinal which the eventual champions Central FC won 3-1 on penalty-kicks after a 0-0 deadlock.

In that penalty-kicks win for the “Central Sharks”, midfielder Ataullah Guerra was the first to score his penalty while goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams made two saves to secure his team’s passage to the final in which they edged Japs North East Stars 1–0 on a Leston Paul item to carry off the $100,000 prize.

However, today Guerra, Williams and Paul will not be among Central Sharks roster for coach Zoran Vranes as they are all in the Soca Warriors squad which leaves this morning for Montego Bay, Jamaica for the CFU finals which runs from November 11-18.

In addition, midfielder Jason Marcano, joined the list of sidelined players with a suspected case of dengue while pre-season midfield signings, Elijah Manners, is still recovering from a fractured fibula (calve bone) and Qian Grosvenor, from illness and will not be available.

It’s still early in the season but the problems for first year coach Vranes seems to be at its peak as left-back Keion Goodridge, yet to start this season, is recovering from an ankle injury, while utility player Kaydion Gabriel, who missed his team’s First Citizens Cup final triumph through card suspension a week ago, had a suspected case of dengue as well, and is listed as 50–50.

Commenting on his list of possible absent players Vranes said, “For us it’s tough. Can you imagine missing about eight starters. But despite everything we are expecting a good performance. Our players are looking forward to a good result.

It’s also a good opportunity for the players, who are getting starting roles to show what they can really do.” Reflecting on their previous meeting so far this season the Yugoslav-born former T&T Under-20 and coach said it was not an easy encounter.

“When we played Police two weeks ago it was a very close game and we are expecting the same on Sunday (today). They have a couple quality players, some former T&T national players and some very experienced.”

The Central coach also had the concerns about the playing surface at today’s venue adding: “The surface isn’t to a professional standard and the earlier day time temperature can be an additional problem, but we would see how best we can adjust to the conditions because we are professionals.

“We are challenging the league title so we must play under the present circumstance of not having a number of starters available.”  Police, meanwhile, will be without goalkeeper Adrian Foncette, who gained his first senior national team call-up from national coach Stephen Hart as third choice behind Williams and Point Fortin Civic’s Marvin Phillip.

The quartet of defender Anton Hutchinson (ankle), midfielder Kurdell Braithwaite (illness) and brothers Jameel (groin) and Kareem (back) Perry are all sidelined but coach Richard Hood still sees every opportunity against one of the top teams as a plus. “I view it as very important because we want to establish ourselves as a top team in the League, and we can only do so by our performances against the better teams,” said Hood.

“We are not concerned too much about the venue or their Central supporters as the game is played on the pitch and our focus is on executing our game plan and neutralising what they do.”  Following today’s match the league will take a two-week break to accommodate the CFU Cups Finals before resuming on November 25.

Dr Griffith, Raymond bring cheer to pro league footballers.
By Vinode Mamchan (Guardian).

After battling for quite a long time to get their government subvention from SPORTT to participate in the T&T Pro League, Central FC is finally getting their well-deserved funds.

Also getting a monthly subvention are newcomers to the T&T Pro League Point Fortin Civic Centre. T&T Guardian understands that sports minister Dr Rupert Griffith, early in his tenure, indicated to acting CEO of SPORTT Adrian Raymond that he must find the money for these two clubs to get the subventions as the others have been getting all the while because he was concerned about the development of the young footballers at the clubs.

The Brent Sancho-led Central FC has been knocking on the doors for quite a while to get their funding but was not able to get any assistance.

Central contracting firm Super Industrial Services Limited (SIS) has been taken care of the brunt of their expenses since then and the club has been doing extremely well both on and off the field.

Griffith heard from both clubs and decided to move quickly in order to get the assistance for them.

Raymond, also new to his job was then left with the task of finding the funds, so that the monthly payments could be made. He set about a series of cost cutting initiatives and it has immediately proved effective, so much so that he was able to source the funding for the pro league clubs.

It is understood that Raymond sent back the rented SUVs that was a costly affair for SPORTT as part of his cost cutting.

He also looked at staffing and how effectively those that were on board could be used to get the desired results.

T&T Guardian was told that Raymond since his acting started has been shopping around for better deals, in all aspect of SPORTT’s spending and has been able to cut it considerably.

Now that he has done that, SPORTT can put smiles on the faces of many young athletes at both Central FC and Point Fortin Civic Centre.

De Silva, Grosvenor double-up to keep “Central Sharks” on top.
ttproleague.com.

Civic win big ahead of Toyota Classic Final but Jabloteh lose

Attacking midfielders Sean de Silva and Qian Grosvenor scored a brace each as Central FC maintained its hold of pole position in the 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League (DPL) championship with a comfortable 4-0 win over Toyota Classic finalists Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh on Tuesday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

While at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Point Fortin Civic, who must tackle Jabloteh from 8 pm on Friday at the Couva venue for the 2014 Toyota Classic crown, were celebrating a 4-1 win over cellar positioned St. Ann’s Rangers in their Round One Match Day Six encounter.

Jamille Boatswain, scorer of a semi-final hat-trick against WASA FC to help Civic reach the Toyota Classic Final, extended his scoring form with a double against Rangers, netting in the 22nd and 30th minutes, for the Reynold Carrington-coached Point Fortin club.

Forward Andre Alexis and defender Andre Ettienne also got on the score-sheet, scoring in the 23rd and 63rd minutes respectively, before Rangers got a consolation item in the 69th minute through Jared Bennett.

The result, however, Civic’s first maximum three points of the 2014-2015 DPL campaign, only improved their tally to four points in eight position, one point ahead of bottom of the table Rangers. But the southerners could celebrate their maiden trophy on Friday, in only their second season at the Pro League level, if they can extend a win against Jabloteh.

Central meanwhile, remained at the top of the DPL standings with an improved tally of 13 points, while defending champions DirecTV W Connection climbed two spots up the ladder into second with 10 points to their name.

Connection muscled out a 2-1 win over Defence Force in the second match contested at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, while Caledonia AIA and Police FC shared points in a 1-1 draw in the second match contested at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Less than a minute into the contest, Connection forward Jerrel Britto sent a low strike inches wide of the far post and on the 10th minute Defence Force goalkeeper Andre Marchan pulled off a brilliant low save to deny forward Hashim Arcia.

Then on the 30th minute Arcia was denied by the upright after knocking down a Joevin Jones free-kick.

But a minute later Connection celebrated a 1-0 lead after an unlucky Marchan was wrong-sided by a deflected Jones free-kick following Curtis Gonzales foul on Mekeil Williams above the area.

Not long after, the 34th minute to be exact, Defence Force were celebrating the equaliser scored by an unlikely source, with ace forward Devorn Jorsling suspended on a red card.

Defender Glynn Franklyn the hero, when he buried, from close range, a Sean Narcis free-kick played in from the right for a 1-1 score.

Connection stormed again for the lead and in the 45th minute winger Neil Benjamin’s blast from the right crashed off the face of the crossbar.

But in the 51st minute Connection restored the lead, with a 2-1 score, when forward Jerrel Britto knocked in a Benjamin cross for what turned out the winner.

Not long after, the Defence Force’s rhythm posse arrived, and the sounds of the instruments definitely added to the soldiers’ tempo but finding that second equaliser never came.

In the earlier contest at the Port of Spain venue, Central found the back of the net with ease against Jabloteh’s early defensive approach.

Grosvenor, who was denied by the crossbar in the 12th minute, opened the “Central Sharks”’ account in the 20th minute.

The rising Central midfield talent latched onto a long clearance by goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, raced into the Jabloteh area, rounded goalkeeper Shane Mattis, then slotted into an open net for a 1-0 lead.

Things got worse for Jabloteh – undefeated in the 2014-2015 DPL prior to kick – later slipping three spots down the standings into fifth.

De Silva made it 2-0 in the 24th minute with a neat turn just inside the area before blasting past a stunned Mattis.

Then in the 30th minute De Silva registered his second for a 3-0 advantage when he lunged in to meet a Darren Mitchell pass, on a quick counterattack by Central, to hit past a hapless Mattis.

Mattis was beaten again in the 51st minute before he was replaced injured by Raheem Belgrave two minutes later.

Grosvenor, gifted with an open net from close up, made no mistake to complete his double and Central’s 4-0 score after forward Dwight Quintero had rounded Mattis just outside the six yard area before setting up his teammate.

Both goal-scorers were at it again in the 68th minute when De Silva’s deflected crack at goal forced Belgrave into a save and from the resulting corner whipped in by the same player, Grosvenor struck the side netting.

As for Jabloteh’s closest to a consolation item, which never came, Jevon Morris ambitiously struck inches wide from distance in the second half, which included goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams dispossessing Johan Peltier at the goalmouth.

Again, I'm not making excuses for some of the mistakes made by Pro League, but the fixtures are incredibly difficult to maintain and Julia Baptiste works minor miracles at times.

Last Tuesday, Central F.C. arrived at Ato Boldon as per usual to train on the outside field. We always use the same dressing room in the stadium. However, we were locked out because the stadium, including dressing rooms, was being cleaned and prepared for a fete on Saturday.

But, hang on, we have a game booked on Friday, we say. Not anymore, we are told. Then, we informed W.Connection, who train on the outside field before us, that the games on Friday won't be played at Ato.

I don't think,at this point, the Pro League were even aware.

Next problem:

Manny still not ready, Larry has no lights and Hasely has had the entire field covered for fetes. All that remains is Marvin Lee, which nobody likes playing on and costs money that often is not recovered.

So,games had to be shuffled with a double header at Marvin Lee on Saturday and another at Ato on Sunday!!

Of course, it's completely wrong of us football teams to interrupt fetes to play football at a sports stadium  :cursing: >:( >:(

Didn't they just spent millions of dollars on refurbisingall of the stadiums? so they did that to host fetes?

What a shame by the T&T government.

Why dont the Pro League try to acquire one of the Stadium on a long term lease from the T&T government and use it strictly for their games??

If the Larry Goemes doesn't have lights, play the games 2 and 4?

I thought CONCACAF was investigating the Marvin Lee? how come its still up and running and why is Jack still involved with football matters?

Central finish top after Round One on equal points and goal difference with W. Connection, but with more goals scored, so are inaugural winners of the Rawle Fletcher Cup.

This year, to build the competetiveness and to give more clubs opportunities to win trophies, the winners of each Pro League round wins TT$35,000. Each round has a different trophy named after players who have passed away. Rawle Fletcher is the first cup. I remember that one round is named after Akeem Adams and I think (but can't be sure) that the other is for Kevon Carter.

:

There are 3 rounds which mean each team plays each other home, away & neutral. Round One just finished, Round 2 is underway now.
The team who finishes top of the league at the end of each round wins TT$35,000 plus a trophy and, of course, whoever is top at the end of round 3 wins the league title.

Usual system decided by points, goal difference, head to head, goals scored.

Central restores 6-point DPL lead with 1-0 win over Caledonia.
ttproleague.com.

'Couva Sharks' undefeated in seven consecutive league games

Ato Boldon Stadium, COUVA – Ataullah Guerra converted from the penalty spot on Wednesday to earn leaders Central FC a 1-0 win over Caledonia AIA in their Round Two Match Day Three clash of the Digicel Pro League championship.

The win restored Central's six-point lead – now with 8-2-1, 26 points – ahead of second positioned and defending champions DIRECTV W Connection (6-2-2, 20 points).

Also with Wednesday's win, the Zoran Vranes-coached Central celebrated their fourth consecutive win in seven straight undefeated league outings.

While the Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Guerra celebrated his seventh goal of the DPL this season to tie with goal scoring leader Kerry Baptiste.

Guerra, from the spot in the 27th minute, struck the ball to the left of goalkeeper Shemel Louison, and although the Grenada international 'keeper got glove to the ball, it wasn't enough to stop the ball from entering the net as Central partied a 1-0 advantage.

Referee Keilon Bacchus had awarded Central the penalty after Jameel Neptune bundled Jason Marcano to ground in an attempt to deny the midfielder a shooting opportunity from close up.

It wasn't until the 81st minute, however, that Guerra had an opening against his former employers but dragged his right footed effort wide of the far post.

Half hour earlier Central defensive signing, Jamaica international Upston Edwards, had an excellent chance of scoring on debut but the 25-year-old headed over bar from Jason Marcano's left side corner.

Caledonia, led by assistant coach Jerry Moe in absence of technical director/head coach Jamaal Shabazz, did well to limit Central but failed to take advantage of their rare scoring opportunities.

Guyana international Pernell Schultz had the seventh placed Caledonia (3-2-5, 11 points) best chances in the first half but was denied by goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams in the 6th, 32nd and 38th minutes.

Shabazz, currently on international duty with the Guyana national team preparing to face Barbados in a friendly on February 1, will also be absent for Caledonia's Round Two Match Day Four fixture against third placed Defence Force (5-2-3, 17 points) on Friday 30 January from 8 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Earlier on Friday fourth placed North East Stars (5-2-4, 17 points) will take on fifth placed Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh (4-4-3, 16 points) from 6 pm at the Couva venue.

The action continues on Saturday when cellar placed St. Ann’s Rangers (0-1-10, 1 point) meet W Connection from 3:30 pm at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, and on Sunday with sixth placed Police (3-5-3, 14 points) against Central from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Tyrone Charles double lifts Jabloteh to a 3-2 win over 10-man Central.
ttprolegue.com.

‘Couva Sharks’ loses second on the trot; DeLeon guides Civic to second consecutive win; and Police stun Caledonia

Tyrone Charles punished his former employers twice in the second half to help Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh to a thrilling 3-2 win over current Digicel Pro League leaders and 10-man Central FC on Friday night in the second match of a Round Two Match Day Six double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Central – defeated 2-1 by Defence Force last Tuesday – turned up with their chanting supporters and pounding drum, and opened the scoring in the 14th minute of a feisty first half at the Macoya venue.

Marvin Oliver slotted in a rebound for the 1-0 advantage after goalkeeper Raheem Belgrave had blocked out the veteran’s penalty strike following Mudassa Howe’s foul on Kaydion Gabriel in the box.

However on the 20th minute Jabloteh’s talented Jamaican midfielder, Fabian Reid, tied the scores 1-1 with a delightful curling strike into goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams’ upper corner after collecting a Calib Sturge pass and slipping the ball through the legs of defender Jamal Jack to free himself at the edge of the area.

Tyrone Charles then nicked his first of the night, with a toe poke for a 2-1 Jabloteh lead in the 58th minute, when he capitalised on a mix-up by goalkeeper Williams and “Couva Sharks”’ defenders, who failed to handle a long pass forward into the box by Isaiah Mc Intyre.

Central’s troubles worsened, just four minutes later, when referee Harris produced a direct red card to forward Rundell Winchester following a tackle on Jevon Morris. Harris had initially drawn the yellow card for the foul but switched to a direct red for abusive language by the player as Central later ended with 10 men for a second consecutive match.

But in the 66th minute the scores were tied 2-2 when Oliver converted from the penalty spot, for his seventh DPL goal this season, beating substitute goalie Aaron Enil, who had replaced Belgrave following the break.

Belgrave, replaced because of slight injury after clashing with Winchester in the first half, looked on from the stands when referee Harris ruled that defender Josiah Trimmingham had fouled Darren Mitchell in the box and when Enil was beaten.

Jabloteh defender, Howe, later made up for giving up an early penalty, by clearing off the line in the 77th minute to deny Central forward Willis Plaza, who struck towards goal from a Sean de Silva pass, as the “Couva Sharks”’ supporters continued to pound and chant on.

But seemingly drummed-up by the opposition, Charles fired in the 3-2 winner in the 81st minute to complete his double. The forward showed excellent strength to hold off defender Marcelle Francois after collecting a Reid pass to hit past goalkeeper Williams.

Despite the hard-fought victory Jabloteh continues to occupy fifth position but with an improved 19 points, 10 less than leaders Central (29 points), while defending champions DIRECTV W Connection, Defence Force and North East Stars occupy second, third and fourth respectively, with 23 points each.

W Connection and Defence Force will face each other from 4 pm on Saturday 7 February at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium to wrap up Round Two Match Day Six, which already include Point Fortin Civic and Police FC registering huge comfortable wins.

Civic, led by interim head coach Leroy De Leon following last weekend's exit by Reynold Carrington, whipped visiting cellar positioned St. Ann’s Rangers 4-1 at the Mahaica Oval in the early match on Friday, while Police FC stunned Caledonia AIA 3-0 in the first match of the double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Rangers had taken a surprise lead in the 56th minute but De Leon's side, coming off a 2-1 win over Connection on Tuesday, fired back with four late goals to complete a second consecutive league win.

Marcus Joseph levelled the scores 1-1 in the 72nd minute and Shackiel Henry made it 2-1 by the 75th minute before a late double by Jamille Boatswain, netting in the 83rd and 91st minutes, completed the late rout.

The result kept Civic in sixth position, tied with seventh positioned Police, on 17 points, while Caledonia occupy eight position with 14 points, and Rangers at rock bottom with just one point.

Caledonia conceded in as early as the 3rd minute when forward Kareem Freitas completed a cool finish past goalkeeper Shemel Louison from close up following a flicked pass by Kareem Perry for a 1-0 Police lead.

The “Lawmen”, led by captain Todd Ryan cleverly marshalling the midfield, doubled the lead, 2-0, in the 29th minute when Clevon Mc Fee turned in a low powerful Micah Lewis cross.

And it wasn’t a surprise that Police added a third on the 60th minute for a 3-0 win when midfielder Kenaz Williams blasted from the top of the box to beat Louison into the top corner after he was picked out by a Perry cross.

Actually, I didn't take over! I have joined Brent at the Ministry as his Personal Adviser. The CFC board is overseeing things, but that should be no excuse as the coaches and office staff are perfectly capable of running things. In fact, aside from hunting down new players, Brent and I rarely were involved in team matters.

Wait. This is getting more and more incredulous by the minute.

You mean to tell me that you, Football Supporter, are the Minister of Sports for Trinidad and Tobago, Brent Sancho, personal advisor on matters pertinent to the men and women in sports, of all ages, in Trinidad and Tobago? Something is crooked here. You and Sancho would leave an okay cruise ship on it's way to the CCL to jump into a aimless dingy full of holes to boot. That the two of you would leave a community that was supporting you and depending on you to improve on the plans that were implemented last year to improve the lives of the young men and women of that area, to fix a situation that requires more attention and intelligence that targets not just one single community but encompasses an entire country of communities, far and wide, in 7 months that others could not fix in 5 years or more. You are such a genius at solving complex, statistical, financial, and social mathematical equations of the Calculus equatical comprehension of issues that you and Sancho were baffled by the inability and irreluctance of all those that preceeded you to solve these broad spectrum of issues that you and Sancho thought was solvable in 7 months.

Just out of curiosity, did you and Sancho figure out in one year how Central FC was going to win the CCL?

Football is not an exact science, it's determined by human performance (or lack of) and, to a degree, the influence of match officials. Take, Winchester being hit in the face, but receiving a red card for swearing, while Jorsling left the playing area and entered the stands, yet received no punishment.

http://www.tv6tnt.com/sevenpm-news/-Jabloteh-Beat-Sharks-291172541.html

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/videos/--DEFENCE-FORCE-DEF-CENTRAL-FC---290868351.html

(They cut the footage before army threw the trash can and Jorsling entered the stands)

But we did plan all of the relevant items required: experienced coaching staff, experienced players, funding to achieve both etc  But this is no different to Connection or any other ambitious club.

But our business plan did have us qualifying in year three, so we are one year ahead of schedule!

As for your comments about MoS, of course we know the restrictions. All we can do is begin to change the mindset, the policies and procedures and motivate those we are in contact with to rely less on the State and develop corporate partnerships and income generating programmes.

It's not rocket science, but it seems that there areas have been ignored in the past. Why not accept the challenge if it is offered? There may never be another chance to influence the arena in which we work in. If you're too scared to shoot for goal in case you miss, you will never score (in fact, you shouldn't even be in the game). We're taking our shot. Why not wait to see what happens before you criticise too much? You may be right, but then again, maybe we can do some good in the short time we have.

Central stop Civic to win Akeem Adams Trophy.
ttproleague.com.

Willis Plaza executed a cool finish, amidst a heated battle, seconds before the half to earn longstanding Digicel Pro League leaders Central FC a slim but valuable 1-0 win over home side Point Fortin Civic on Tuesday at the Mahaica Oval to secure the Akeem Adams (Round Two) Trophy on the penultimate day.

The Zoran Vranes coached-outfit, which already captured this season’s First Citizens Cup and the Rawle Fletcher (Round One) Trophy, tallied an unattainable 18 points in round two after completing their final fixture with three points against Civic—the only team with a realistic previous chance of toppling the “Couva Sharks” for Akeem Adams Trophy, which is named in honour of the fallen former W Connection and Central FC footballer and Point Fortin native.

Vranes was happy to add the Akeem Adams Trophy to Central’s cabinet but says it is still a long tough road to the club’s ambition of winning the DPL championship.

“We stepped up with two wins after losses (against Defence Force and San Juan Jabloteh 2-1 and 3-2 respectively) were we made mistakes but it’s going to be tough till the end,” Vranes said. “It’s still a long way to go but I think once we don’t make mistakes, we are good enough to win the championship.”

Central stands atop the regular DPL standings with 35 points, five points clear of reigning champions and second placed W Connection (30 points), who were held to a 1-1 draw against eight placed Caledonia AIA in their Round Two Match Day Eight fixture at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday night.

Mekeil Williams gave Connection the lead in the 80th minute beating goalkeeper Shemel Louison from the penalty spot but Caledonia tied the game in stoppage time with a 30-metre Kareem Joseph free-kick that defeated goalkeeper Julani Archibald.

Simultaneously at the Marvin Lee Stadium, North East Stars (26 points) leapfrogged Defence Force for third position after handing cellar placed St. Ann’s Rangers their 14th league defeat from of the 2014-2015 season with a 2-1 score.

Defender Aquil Selby gave the Stars a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute but the Sangre Grande outfit needed a 75th minute winner from attacker Kennedy Hinkson after Rangers forward Devon Modeste tied the scores before the break with his first goal since returning to his old employers during the January transfer window from Pro League-bound Club Sando.

Defence Force meanwhile, dropped further down the ladder by the end of the second match at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Defence Force were downed 2-1 by Jabloteh, who moved two spots up the ladder into fourth position and tied on 23 points with the army/coastguard combination, while Civic dropped a spot into sixth with 20 points but ahead of Police (17 points), Caledonia (16 points) and Rangers (1 point).

Jabloteh’s Jamaican forward Newton Sterling scored on either side of the break, in the 22nd and 47th minutes, to pace the San Juan club to a 2-1 win.

Devorn Jorsling had pulled back in the 84th minute but it was only enough to take his league scoring tally this season to 7 goals, tied with teammate Richard Roy, Central’s Marvin Oliver and Willis Plaza, Jabloteh’s Kerry Baptiste and Civic’s Marcus Joseph, but two goals shy of Connection’s Jerrel Britto and one goal behind Caledonia’s Purnell Schultz and Central’s Ataulla Guerra.

Plaza, however, only became active for Central in the January transfer window this season.

The Trinidad and Tobago international dispatched a low strike from inside the box to beat Civic goalie Marvin Phillip in the 45th minute on Tuesday.

Plaza had worked a neat exchange with Jason Marcano inside the box to create the scoring opportunity after the home side failed to quell a subsequent string of passes orchestrated by substitute Ataulla Guerra.

Civic, boasting four straight wins in all competitions before kick-off, had an early chance to take the lead but ace forward Marcus Joseph missed an open net just two minutes into the match. The Leroy De Leon-coached Civic also had a shout for penalty in the 16th minute after a tackle on Andre Toussaint inside the box by defender Jamal Jack, but referee Callum Marshall wasn’t entertained.

Marshall actually had his work cut out in the afternoon heat and standing in the middle of a very physical contest. Marshall dished out only two cautions to either side but many believed the official had been far too lenient.

Plaza’s goal was vital but so were saves by Central goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams. The Trinidad and Tobago international custodian made a low save in the 18th minute to thwart a Weslie John effort from distance and in the 31st minute pulled off a one-handed save to push a Joseph strike wide for a corner.

Williams made another crucial one handed save in the 71st minute, tipping behind a Toussaint free-kick at the last moment.

“We played the big boys and we were right there with them,” said Civic interim head coach Leroy De Leon following the match. “It was good. We actually had a couple chances to take while they had a dinky chance and they scored.”

Goal-scorer Plaza had a stoppage-time opportunity to grab a second after he was picked out by Guerra but made a mess of things, allowing an easy gather by Phillip. Guerra too, had a missed opportunity with nine minutes of regular time left against Civic.

“It was a tough game,” acknowledged Vranes. “They (Civic) are a very good team. It’s not out of nothing that they have won four straight games since coach DeLeon came in. We (Central) were more dangerous and created more chances but it was probably our toughest game in the season so far.”

Meanwhile DeLeon, who led Civic to league wins over W Connection (2-1), Rangers (4-1), Defence Force (2-1), and a 4-3 penalty win over Petrotrin Palo Seco in the FA Trophy Round of 32 since taking over as interim head coach following a walkout by coach Reynold Carrington, is confident of returning to winning ways following Tuesday’s defeat.

“We are doing fine,” he said. “We are going to win a lot of games.”

DeLeon, a former Trinidad and Tobago star footballer, said it was simply a matter of adjusting some attitudes since taking over on an interim basis.

“It’s the same squad, nothing strange. It’s the same group of players that I’ve inherited. But it was just a matter of adjusting some attitudes. Every time we go to practice I try to break one bad habit but time is of the essence in the sense that we have very tight schedule with league and FA fixtures and we are not getting to put in some good practice. But I see progress although we are still lacking mental toughness for longer periods. It was the same under the previous coach where the players only showed mental toughness sporadically as we saw against Central playing tough for 20 or 30 minutes and all of a sudden disappear.”

Civic will return to action on Friday 27 February when to travel to the Marvin Lee Stadium against Police FC from 8 pm following a 6 pm kick off between Rangers and Defence Force at the Macoya venue.

Simultaneously at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Caledonia will tackle North East Stars from 6 pm and W Connection against Jabloteh from 8 pm while Central are on the bye.

Pro League to meet on brawl issue
T&T Newsday Reports.

THE DISCIPLINARY Committee of the TT Pro League will meet as soon as possible to decide on the matter involving a pair of brawls, on and off the field, in Friday’s Round Two Match Day Nine contest between Point Fortin Civic FC and Police at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

Point Fortin were leading 3-1 in second-half stoppage time when a brawl ensued between both teams following a foul on Civic’s striker Marcus Joseph.

And things got equally heated in the stands when a water bottle, thrown from the stands, allegedly struck the face of a Police player (who was doing ball-boy duties at the game), and a fan was accosted by off-duty police officers.

Pro League Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dexter Skeene, in a brief interview on Monday, stated that they were in possession of a report from match commissioner Carl Joseph, but were still awaiting one from referee Keon Yorke. He noted that, upon receiving both reports, the Committee will meet and make a decision on the unsavoury incident.

But Skeene emphatically said, “the Pro League doesn’t condone any sort of violence. Our values are consistent with fair play, discipline and respect for others.”

Central chew on Rangers again to extend lead.
ttproleague.com

Digicel Pro League roundup: Central five points ahead after 6-1 win over Rangers; Stars, Civic and Police make upward movement while Marcus Joseph, Devorn Jorsling lead scoring.

Central FC's battle to keep safety of pole position in the Digicel Pro League 2014-2015 got a boost on Tuesday when the "Couva Sharks" triumphed 6-1 over cellar-placed St. Ann's Rangers at the start of the third and final round.

Central, at the summit, lead the standings with 38 points, five points clear of reigning champions and Couva-rivals DIRECTV W Connection (33 points), who they must face on Friday from 8 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Also on Tuesday night North East Stars (29 points), Point Fortin Civic (26 points) and Police FC (20 points) each moved up a spot into third, fourth and seventh positions respectively, after posting Round Three Match Day One wins.

North East Stars defeated 10-man Defence Force 3-2 following Central’s win over Rangers at the Marvin Lee Stadium, while at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Police FC and Point Fortin Civic were comfortable 3-1 winners over Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh and Caledonia AIA respectively.

Makesi Lewis (15th minute), Clevon Mc Fee (37th minute) and Kareem Freitas (57th minute) each scored for Police while Jabloteh’s lone item came from the penalty spot through Shaquille Bertrand ten minutes from time.

In the second contest at the Couva venue Guyanese forward Purnell Schultz (20th minute) gave Caledonia the lead with his ninth league goal this season, but an equaliser by Jamille Boatswain (23rd minute), for his sixth league goal of the season, and a double by Marcus Joseph (30th and 65th minutes), with the latter from the penalty spot, earned Civic a come-from-behind victory.

Joseph, last season’s Golden Boot winner, and Defence Force’s Devorn Jorsling, the 2010-2011 winner, are now tied at the top of the 2014-2015 DPL scorers list with 11 goals, one more than W Connection’s Jerrel Britto.

Jorsling opened the scoring for Defence Force in the 45th minute, beating goalkeeper Cleon John from the penalty spot after a foul on Akeem Roach inside the box by Jesus Perez.

Referee Gyasi Mc Donald was called into action again in stoppage-time of the first half, this time against Defence Force, awarding veteran midfielder Kerry Joseph a direct red card for harsh tackle on Jeremy Williams in the centre circle.

Then five minutes inside the second half Mc Donald awarded the Stars a penalty following a handball in the box by defender Marvin Jones. Keron Cummings – the Stars instrumental player on the night – converted past goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke to tie the scores 1-1.

Jamaican utility player Keithy Simpson then gave the Sangre Grande outfit a 2-1 lead with a superb strike in the 56th minute before Cummings made it 3-1 on the 68th minute, capitalising on a poor clearance by goalkeeper Clarke when he lobbed the ball into an exposed net.

Defence Force substitute Josimar Belgrave pulled back a goal in the 73rd minute when his strike took a wicked deflection to beat goalkeeper John, but it was only enough to reduce the deficit as North East Stars held on for the win.

In fact, Defence Force were lucky not to concede later goals after Stars’ substitute Taryk Sampson was denied by the frame in the 81st and 90th minutes.

Defence Force (26 points), 7-0 winners over Rangers in their previous league match, dropped two spots into fifth, tied on points with Civic but behind on goal-difference and three points ahead of sixth positioned Jabloteh (23 points), while Caledonia (18 points) occupy eight place and Rangers remain concreted to the bottom with just one point.

And while second placed Connection were on the bye on Tuesday, Central, winners of this season's First Citizens Cup and Rawle Fletcher (Round One) and Akeem Adams (Round Two) Trophies, took the opportunity to boost their psychological and points advantage over  the "Savonetta Boys" in the DPL championship.

Leston Paul gave the Zoran Vranes-coached Central a 1-0 lead in as early as the 2nd minute. Forward Willis Plaza knocked down a left side cross into the path of Paul inside the box and midfielder let off an early half volley which took a deflection on its way to beat goalkeeper Christopher Biggette.

Biggette conceded again in the 14th minute as Central celebrated a 2-0 cushion with Jamal Jack putting over the line a rebound after the Rangers goalie made an initial save to deny Marvin Oliver.

Things got worse for Rangers when Ataullah Guerra made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, hitting to the left of Biggette for his ninth league goal this season, after referee Crystal Sobers awarded the kick for a handball in the box by defender Ryan O'Neil to cut off a short cross by Paul.

Then four minutes before the break Darren Mitchell made it 4-0 when he drove the ball past Biggette from the centre of the box. Guerra had made a couple twists and turns inside the right of the area to unsettle the Rangers defence before slipping a pass to Mitchell, who made no mistake.

Rangers resumed with a change in goal, replacing Biggette with Junior Granger, after the interval but that didn't put a cork on Central's scoring.

Central, who whipped Rangers 7-0 and 4-1 in Round and Two respectively this season, added their fifth and sixth goals in the 78th and 84th minutes from Kaydion Gabriel and Marvin Oliver respectively, for a comprehensive 6-0 lead.

Gabriel scored with a cheeky finish over goalkeeper Granger after racing onto a Jack pass into the box while defender O'Neil's desperate attempt to clear the ball off the line only resulted in him getting tangled in the netting.

Four minutes later O'Neil was brilliant when he cleared substitute Dwight Quintero's 24-yard strike at the face of goal.

But there was little that goalkeeper Granger, who later made a brilliant save to deny substitute Jean-Luc Rochford, and O'Neil could have done to deny Oliver. Oliver wrapped up Central’s scoring with his eight league goal this season by heading in from close up after Jack hooked the ball across the face of goal.

However a bit of miscommunication between Oliver and former Rangers goalie Akel Clarke in the third and final minute of stoppage time on the other end, resulted in the latter providing a pass that Rangers midfielder Kennedy Isles took full advantage of by blasting into the net for the St. Ann's club consolation item.

Rangers will return to action on Friday in Round Three Match Day Two against Jabloteh from 6 pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium followed by Defence Force against Police from 8 pm, while at the Ato Boldon Stadium Point Fortin Civic will meet North East Stars from 6 pm and followed by the Couva-derby between Central FC and W Connection from 8 pm.

Did you see the crowd at the stadium for the Montreal Impact vs Pachuca game? It looked like a magical journey into footballing magic. Sell out crowd. Standing seats only. And when the rookie scored that goal it was pure magic. Even after the referee blew the whistle to end the game, the fans were cheering and dancing and hugging one another.
Does this tired ass pro league have anything like that? Mr. "Think positive thoughts and positive things will happen" Skeene?

Goalposts and ‘keepers star as Central and Connection play to Couva Clásico stalemate.
ttproleague.com.

Unlikely standouts – goalposts – stole the show in Friday's Couva Clásico between Digicel Pro League leaders Central FC and second placed DIRECTV W Connection which ended goalless at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

The result didn’t put much of a dent on the front runners – Central (12-3-3, 39 points) and Connection (10-4-3, 34 points) – after third placed North East Stars (9-3-6, 30 points) and fourth placed Point Fortin Civic (8-3-7, 27 points) played to a 1-1 draw in the opening contest of the Round Three Match Day Two double-header at the Couva venue.

But it certainly didn’t increase either Central or Connection’s chances at lifting this season’s DPL crown, although it was clear to both sides that while very important, the outcome of the Couva Clásico wasn’t decisive.

“It's not over,” Central FC head coach Zoran Vranes said following the match. “We have six more games. We know everyone is capable of making mistakes but we have two [lost] points that we need to make up for. And if we do what we need to do we should be ok. But it's still far from over.”

Goals have been rare in three previous meetings in all competitions (1-1-1) between the Couva rivals this season, producing just four goals, but no one would have predicted a 0-0 tie at such a critical stage of the DPL title chase.

Central FC goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams produced a one-handed save in the 20th minute to outclass an excellent Hashim Arcia strike following a right side move by Jerrel Britto to find his teammate above the box.

Four minutes later on the other end W Connection goalkeeper Julani Archibald made a fingertip save in the 24th minute to put over bar an effort from distance by Central team captain and midfielder Leston Paul as both sides continue to throw everything at each other for that valuable item, which never came.

Connection, without the services of injured midfielders Gerard Williams (calf) and Neil Benjamin Jr. (hamstring), had to prematurely replace injured Colombian midfielder Stiven Lopez Concha with Devaughn Elliot just 28 minutes into the match but were fortunate to see a Willis Plaza strike crash off the base of the upright in the same minute.

Archibald then provided a shutout seconds from the half time blow of referee Rodphin Harris' whistle, denying Plaza at point blank. The Central forward failed to direct a perfectly placed Kaydion Gabriel low right-side cross beyond the Connection ‘keeper.

The hunt for a goal continued in the second half with Central midfielder Ataulla Guerra sending a low drive inches wide of the upright in the 61st minute and three minutes later he too was denied by the frame from just inside the box.

Jerrel Britto, who was only a few inches wide of the far Central upright six minutes into the contest, was also denied by the frame in the 72nd minute. The Connection forward had latched onto a long ball inside the Central box, raced ahead of his challenger, and from a tight angle on the left, unleashed a strike which rebounded off the base.

Central in search for a late goal only managed tame low efforts by Keon Goodridge and Guerra in the 84th and 87th minutes respectively, which Archibald easily took care of.

Then in the 89th minute, W Connection’s Arcia with the final attempt of the match stood stunned as he too was kept out by the frame. The lanky attacker had a crack from the top of the box that cannoned off the upright.

“In terms of play we are satisfied with result,” Vranes said. “We were maybe better one part of game with chances we really should have scored but things changed near the end and we were very lucky that they didn't score. So I think the result fair one.”

Meanwhile Connection head coach Stuart Charles Fevrier believes his “Savonetta Boys” were unlucky while given the contest high ratings.

“I think it was a good footballing game,” said the Connection coach. “I think we were better tactically in the first half but Central improved in the second half, from a tactical standpoint, and we had to make some adjustments to bring back the balance of the game.

“I think we were unlucky, hitting the post three times, while Central had one clear cut opportunity which our goalkeeper made a big save in the first half. But I think we saw that these are definitely two of the top teams in the league. The quality of football was good. The players were very tactical in their approach to the game and I was quite pleased with the effort of my players.”

With his ambition still set on hurdling Central – last season’s runners-up – to successfully retain the DPL championship, Fevrier added, “We can't worry over things we don't have control over. We can only focus on our performances [from here on].”

Central FC and W Connection will return to DPL action on Tuesday 10 March in Round Three Match Day Three at the Marvin Lee Stadium against eight placed Caledonia AIA (5-4-8, 19 points) and North East Stars from 6 pm and 8 pm respectively.

Also on Friday sixth placed Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh (7-5-6, 26 points) needed a second half Shaquille Bertrand winner in the 72nd minute to defeat cellar placed St. Ann’s Rangers (0-1-17, 1 point) 2-1 in the first match of a double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Kerry Baptiste had the “San Juan Kings” in front in the 42nd minute but Rangers equalised through Jameel Antoine on the hour mark before Bertrand snatched the winner.

In the second match at the Macoya venue, Makesi Lewis’ 51st minute item separated Police (6-5-7, 23 points) from fifth placed Defence Force (8-28, 26 points) for a 1-0 win to hurdle Caledonia for seventh place on the table.

And in the early match at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Marcus Joseph had Civic in front 1-0 on the 55th minute, beating goalkeeper Cleon John with a powerful strike of the left boot at the near post for his 12th DPL goal to lead the scorers list.

But two minutes from the end of regulation time Glenton Wolfe knotted the score 1-1 with a brilliant glancing header that was too good for goalkeeper Akini Adams.

Kennedy Hinkson provided the right side free kick – after a careless foul by Civic – and Wolfe capitalised to split the spoils.

Civic will return to DPL action on Wednesday 11 March against Jabloteh from 8 pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium, following a 6 pm contest between Rangers and Police.

Civic spank Jabloteh 5-1; Police holds off gritty effort by Ron La Forest’s Rangers in 4-3 thriller

.
ttproleague.com.

Boatswain double helps Civic move into third on DPL standings, New Rangers coach Ron La Forest wants to instill ‘football discipline’

Marvin Lee Stadium, MACOYA – Excitement erupted on Wednesday night as Point Fortin Civic whipped Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh 5-1 to move into third position on the Digicel Pro League 2014-2015 standings, but not before Police FC needed a Makesi Lewis second half double to hold off cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers 4-3.

With the result, Civic (9-3-7, 30 points) hurdled North East Stars (9-3-7, 30 points) – 2-0 losers against second positioned and defending champions DIRECTV W Connection (11-4-3, 37 points) on Tuesday – by goal difference to move into the top three, twelve (12) points adrift of leaders Central FC (13-3-3, 42 points).

Jabloteh and Police, both with 7-5-7, 26 points, are only separated by goal difference as they maintain sixth and seventh places respectively, while Rangers (0-1-18, 1 point) are bottom the table with just one point.

In the opening match of the double header – which wrapped up the Round Three Match Day Three fixtures of this season’s DPL – Rangers, led by debuting coach Ron La Forest, gave an impressive account of themselves in the first half, equalising twice against the “Lawmen”.

“[Our players] are in a slump right now; dead last,” said La Forest, a former Trinidad and Tobago international and former coach at Jabloteh, Joe Public, the now defunct Ma Pau SC, and Guaya United. “So we would want to at least put some points on the board so that [our] players can start to feel like humans.”

The no-nonsense coach added, “I’m here for the rest of the season for observation. Also the guys play pretty well but they lack what we call football discipline so I am trying to instil football discipline in them to get results.”

Jason Spence, who started the season as head coach, returns to his former position as team manager while former T&T and Rangers player Dean Pacheco will continue to serve as assistant coach.

Sedale Mc Lean first equalised for Rangers from close up in the 38th minute after Todd Ryan headed in the Police opener in the 6th minute of play past goalkeeper Junior Granger.

Then on a second bite of the cherry in the 40th minute Police forward Kareem Freitas restored his team’s advantage with a blast past the Rangers’ goalie but that lead only lasted one minute after a 25-yard curling free-kick by Shaquille Williams entered the upper netting of goalkeeper Adrian Foncette’s goal to send the match tied at 2-2 at the break.

Police did the necessary in the second with a double by forward Makesi Lewis, scoring in the 62nd and 66th minutes, for a two-goal cushion that Rangers were unable to match.

But credit to the bottom dwellers, they were able to pull a goal back in the 84th minute from the penalty spot with Josh Toussaint converting for a 4-3 finish after Keron Cornwall was fouled in the box.

With the win, the Richard Hood-coached Police also extended their winning run to three matches in the DPL to lead in the race for the Kevon Carter (Round Three) Trophy.

In the second match of the night, Civic, led by interim head coach and Leroy De Leon – a Trinidad and Tobago football legend – stretched their unbeaten run in the league to four matches.

De Leon’s appointment as interim head coach in February following a walkout by Reynold Carrington saw a complete turnaround by Civic, registering 6 wins, 1 draw and just 1 loss in their least eight league matches.

Civic and this season’s leading DPL scorer, forward Marcus Joseph notched his 13th goal this season with a simple tap in past Jabloteh goalkeeper Shane Mattis in the 7th minute before a Jamille Boatswain double, for his 9th and 10th league goals this season in the 29th and 45th minutes, lifted the Point Fortin club to a 3-0 advantage at the break.

Jabloteh teenaged forward and Trinidad and Tobago youth player Brent Sam reduced the deficit 1-3 in the 53rd minute with a simple finish from close up but Civic restored their three-goal advantage with a goal from team captain Andre Ettienne in the 55th minute before Steven Joseph wrapped up the 5-1 win in the 77th minute.

Jabloteh, who must face North East Stars on Sunday in the semi-final round of the TTFA FA Trophy, will meet the Sangre Grande club again on Tuesday in Round Three Match Day Four of the DPL from 9 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, following 7 pm kick-off between Defence Force and Caledonia AIA at the Port of Spain venue.

Also on Tuesday, Rangers will meet W Connection from 4 pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium, and simultaneously at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Central FC must take on Police FC.

But before Tuesday’s league fixtures, Couva rivals Central FC and W Connection must first tackle each other on Sunday in the FA Trophy, in a repeat of last season’s final, for a place in the 2015 final.

Round Three Match Day Three Results

St. Ann’s Rangers 3 (Sedale McLean 38’, Shaquille Williams 41’, Josh Toussaint 84’ penalty) vs Police FC 4 (Todd Ryan 7’, Kareem Freitas 40’, Makesi Lewis 62’, 66’)

San Juan Jabloteh 1 (Brent Sam 53’) vs Point Fortin Civic 5 (Marcus Joseph 7’, Jamille Boatswain 29’, 45’, Andre Ettienne 55’, Steven Joseph 77’)

Pro League hands down fines, suspensions
T&T Express Reports.

POLICE midfielder Kaaron Foster suffered the most by having been issued a nine-match ban handed out by the disciplinary committee of the Digicel Pro League, arising out of the  February 27 fracas in a match against Point Fortin Civic at Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

Police had five players suspended and were also fined $15,000. Heavily sanctioned were Kaaron Foster, who was suspended for nine matches, while both Noel Williams and Theon Browne were suspended for six matches apiece.

Police footballers Jasimar Ashers and  Shaquille Nesbit both received two-match suspensions. Additionally, Point Fortin Civic were fined $20,000, while three players; Garyl Doldron, Glen Sutton and Andre Ettienne were all suspended for two matches apiece.

The police football team will probably meet on Monday to discuss whether or not they will appeal the decision. A scheduled meeting yesterday did not come off. “We have five players who are not available, one up to nine games,” head-coach Richard Hood said after the judgment.

“We are affected because we do not have a large roster of players,” added Hood, who said the police team is already affected by its players having to take up duties and also not having total control over several non-paid civilian players on the roster.

Yesterday, the Pro League issued a release which stated: “Headed by chairman Attorney-at-Law Ricardo Williams, the Disciplinary Committee, which acts on behalf, but independent of the Pro League, met on Thursday March 5 and Monday March 9, 2015, with regard to the brawl involving Police Football Club and Point Fortin Civic Football Club during the clubs’ round two match, day nine fixture, of the Digicel Pro League 2014-2015 at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Friday February 27, 2015.

The committee gave consideration to the match commissioner’s report, referee’s report, video evidence and oral, as well as the FIFA Disciplinary Code 2011.”

Eight players banned, $35,000 in fines

Police FC midfielder Kaaron Foster had his 2014/2015 Digicel T&T Pro League season came to an abrupt halt after he was slapped with a nine-match ban while team-mates Noel Williams and Theon Browne were hit with six match bans each.

This was for their involvement in a brawl which erupted mere minutes before the final whistle of a Round Two, Match Day Nine fixture against Pt Fortin Civic at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, on February 27. Headed by chairman, Attorney-at-Law Ricardo Williams, the Disciplinary Committee, which acts on behalf of, but independent of the League, met on March 5 and 9 with regards to the brawl involving both clubs which Pt Fortin won 3-1.

In handing down their punishments, the committee also gave consideration to the match commissioner’s report, referee’s report, video evidence and oral, as well as the FIFA Disciplinary Code 2011.

And in addition to Foster, Williams and Browne, Police duo, Jasimar Ashers and Shaquille Nesbitt will also serve two match bans while the club was slapped with a $15,000 fine.

Pt Fortin trio, Garyl Doldron, Glen Sutton and Andre Ettienne, have also been suspended for two matches each, while the club will have to pay a hefty fine of $20,000. Ironically, both Police and Pt Fortin were in action on Wednesday at the same venue where both recorded victories. In the opener, Jamille Boatswain scored a first-half brace as Pt Fortin Civic continued its climb up the table after spanking Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh 5-1 while Police FC needed a Makesi Lewis second-half double to hold off bottom club St Ann’s Rangers 4-3.

Speaking after the match, La Forest, who previously coached defunct clubs, Joe Public and Ma Pau, as well as San Juan Jabloteh in the Pro League and Super League’s Guaya United admitted his team was in poor form. “We are in a slump right now, dead last. So we would want to at least put some points on the board so that our players can start to feel like humans.”

The no-nonsense coach added: “I’m here for the rest of the season for observation. Also the guys play pretty well but they lack what we call football discipline so I am trying to instil football discipline in them to get results.”

Jason Spence, who started the season as coach, returns to his former position as team manager while former T&T and Rangers player and coach Dean Pacheco will continue to serve as assistant coach. Matches resume on Tuesday.

The outcomes of the Committee’s deliberations are as follows:

Police FC

Kaaron Foster (suspended for nine (9) matches)
Noel Williams (suspended for six (6) matches)
Theon Browne (suspended for six (6) matches)
Jasimar Ashers (suspended for two (2) matches)
Shaquille Nesbit (suspended for two (2) matches)

Additionally, Police has been fined in the sum of $15,000.00.

Point Fortin Civic FC

Garyl Doldron (suspended for two (2) matches)
Glen Sutton (suspended for two (2) matches)
Andre Ettienne (suspended for two (2) matches)

Additionally, Point Fortin Civic has been fined in the sum of $20,000.00.

Central, Connection and D/Force romp as Jorsling hat-trick to top scoring.
ttproleague.com.

Jomal Williams, Jerrel Britto and Ataullah Guerra star for front runners, Jayson Joseph equalise late as N/E Stars and Jabloteh share spoils

Defence Force target man Devorn Jorsling stormed to the top of this season’s Digicel Pro League 2014-2015 scorers’ list on Tuesday night with 14 goals after netting a hat-trick against his ex-club Caledonia AIA during a 4-0 win in the first match of a Round Three Match Day Four double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

But despite the Jorsling onslaught and victory – the Marvin Gordon coached-side’s first in their last three league outings and second in the last seven league outings – Defence Force (9-2-8, 29 points) remained fifth.

North East Stars (9-4-7, 31 points), the only team to climb on Tuesday, leapfrogged idle Point Fortin Civic (9-3-7, 30 points) for third place on the DPL standings after rallying to a late 1-1 draw against Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh (7-6-7, 27 points) in the second match of the Port of Spain double header.

Jabloteh opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a strike from former North East Stars player Tyrone Charles but Jayson Joseph leveled the Sangre Grande club in the 81st minute against the side that they defeated in the semi-final round of the TTFA FA Trophy last Sunday.

Well ahead of third-placed North East Stars, Civic and Defence Force, are longstanding DPL 2014-2015 leaders Central FC and reigning champions DIRECTV W Connection, who both also registered comfortable wins on Tuesday afternoon to maintain their healthy lead on the rest of the pack after Round Three Match Day Four.

Central (14-3-3, 45 points) defeated Police 4-1 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium to stay five points clear of second-placed W Connection (12-4-3, 40 points), who whipped cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers (0-1-19, 1 point) 4-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Connection midfielder Jomal Williams scored on either side of the break, netting in the 22nd and 49th minutes respectively against Rangers – who recently installed Ron La Forest as new coach for the remainder of the season – before forwards Hashim Arcia and Jerrel Britto, with his 11th DPL goal this season, added a goal each in the 68th and 79th minutes respectively.

Central, who were defeated on penalty kicks by Connection last Sunday in the semi-final round of the TTFA FA Trophy, grabbed a 1-0 lead through midfielder Ataullah Guerra hammered low past goalkeeper Adrian Foncette from nearly 30-yards out, capitalising on a giveaway by Police shot-stopper.

Guerra had an excellent opportunity to double his and Central’s scoring in the 42nd minute from inside the box however Foncette blanked the midfielder with a superb low save after a low perfect Leston Paul cross was sent to the feet of Guerra from the right.

But from the resulting corner swung in by Sean de Silva in the 43rd minute, Marvin Oliver beat everyone to the ball in the box to head past Foncette for a 2-0 Central FC cushion before the break and his 9th DPL goal this season.

Police, without the services of five players – Kaaron Foster (9 matches), Noel Williams and third choice goalkeeper Theon Browne (6 matches), Jasimar Ashers and Shaquille Nesbit (2 matches) – serving suspensions for their involvement in a brawl with Point Fortin Civic on February 27, 2015, lifted the intensity in the second half despite being carved open twice again.

Forward Makesi Lewis pulled a goal back in the 64th minute for Police, reducing the deficit 1-2, when he headed in from close up after goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams was unable to put out a powerful free-kick from Elijah Manners from just outside the box.

Police had called for a penalty in the 63rd minute, arguing that Todd Ryan was tripped inside the box, but referee Nicholas Gloudon awarded the free-kick which the “Lawmen” were able to capitalise on.

But on the 75th minute Central midfielder Leston Paul restored the “Couva Sharks” two-goal cushion with a 3-1 lead, hammering past Foncette from inside the right of the area after being picked out by a Guerra pass.

And on the 82nd minute substitute Michael Yaw Darko, just two minutes onto the pitch, squeezed a left footed strike past Foncette at the near post to pull Central further clear for an eventual 4-1 win against Police, who were denied by the frame in the 78th minute from a deflected Lewis strike.

At the Hasely Crawford Stadium however, Jorsling, a 31-year-old discarded Trinidad and Tobago forward, who had stints with Caledonia during the 2001 and 2011-2012 seasons, was frolicking against his hometown club.

Jorsling opened the scoring against Caledonia in the 49th minute, beating goalkeeper D’Eandre Villaroel from the top of the box for a 1-0 Defence Force lead.

Villaroel, who had spectacularly denied Jorsling three minutes from the break, was beaten again by the three-time TT Pro League Golden Boot winner, who converted from the penalty spot for a 2-0 cushion in the 65th minute after Jameel Neptune had handled an initial free-kick by the forward.

Midfielder Jerwyn Balthazar made it 3-0 in the 80th minute before Jorsling completed his tally and 14th DPL goal – one more than idle Point Fortin Civic forward Marcus Joseph – in the 84 minute for the 4-0 Defence Force win by slotting past Villaroel from a tight angle.

Defence Force will return to action on Saturday from 4 pm at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium against Central FC in Round Three Match Day Five while simultaneously at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, St. Ann's Rangers are against Caledonia AIA.

But action kicks off on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium with Police FC to tackle North East Stars from 6 pm, and W Connection against Point Fortin Civic from 8 pm.

D/Force dent Central DPL title hopes.
ttproleague.com.

Schultz double earn Cale’ full points against Rangers

Digicel Pro League leaders Central FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Defence Force on Saturday, a result that dented the “Couva Sharks” title hopes.

Central (14-4-3, 46 points), with three matches remaining (against San Juan Jabloteh, North East Stars and Point Fortin Civic) in the championship, now stands just three points ahead of reigning champions and second-placed DIRECTV W Connection (13-4-3, 43 points), who have four remaining matches (against Defence Force, Police, Caledonia and Jabloteh).

Central went ahead in the 14th minute at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium after midfielder Sean de Silva beat Defence Force goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke in a one-on-one after latching onto a deflected Ataulla Guerra pass inside the box.

But that lead was cancelled out five minutes later when Defence Force winger Akeem Roach slotted past Central goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams from a tight angle for a 1-1 score.

Williams was called into action in the 22nd minute, as Defence Force proved a formidable bunch from early on, but the Trinidad and Tobago ‘keeper comfortably held on to forward Devorn Jorsling’s free kick.

Jorsling, who leads the DPL 2014-2015 scorers’ list with 14 goals, one of which he scored against Central for a 1-0 Defence Force win in Round Two, then picked out Roach at the top of the box but the promising winger blasted over bar.

Central, who defeated the army/coastguard combination 2-1 in Round One, also had further chances to find the back of the net but failed to beat Clarke, and even when they did, the post got in the way.

Four minutes before the break Guerra, Willis Plaza and De Silva failed to benefit from a low dangerous ball played across the area by full-back Kaydion Garbiel.

Then in the 56th minute Clarke didn’t just enough to steer a low strike from Central’s Liberian midfielder Borfor Carr over bar. And from the resulting short corner, De Silva’s crack from the left rattled the far upright.

Clarke later produced, surely, one of the top saves for the season in the 75th minute at full stretch to put behind a 30-yard Guerra free-kick that was destined for the upper corner.

Defence Force (9-3-8, 30 points), who leapfrogged Point Fortin Civic (9-3-8, 30 points) for fourth position only by a marginally better goal-difference with the result, had the last effort but midfielder Jerwyn Balthazar fired just wide of the upright from the top of the box following a right side counterattack by coach Marvin Gordon’s soldiers.

Also on Saturday, on the bottom end of the ladder, eight-placed Caledonia AIA (6-4-10, 22 points) snapped a three-match losing streak in the DPL with a 2-1 win over cellar-placed St.Ann’s Rangers (0-1-20, 1 point) at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Guyana forward Purnell Schultz scored twice in the second half, netting in the 71st and 80th minutes for his 10th and 11th DPL goals this season to put Caledonia in front before Sayid Freitas pulled back a goal in the 88th minute for Rangers, who recorded their 20th loss in 21 league matches this season.

Three goals, three red cards and Fenwick whistles as Central keep one hand on league title.
ttproleague.com.

Jorsling leads as D/Force demolishes Connection

Marvin Lee Stadium, MACOYA – Ataulla Guerra scored twice and assisted in the other as leaders Central FC spanked 8-man San Juan Jabloteh 3-0 to move six points ahead of second-placed defending champions W Connection, who were hammered 4-1 by Defence Force when the race to the Digicel Pro League 2014/2015 championship resumed on Tuesday.

However an unregistered Central head coach Terry Fenwick – on his first match back with the "Couva Sharks" – wasn't unable to gloat from the technical against his former employers Jabloteh, who had three players ejected by cards in the second period.

Fenwick, who replaced Zoran Vranes over a week ago as head coach of the “Couva Sharks” but wasn’t registered with the league –an administrative blunder by his own club –, was somehow able to occupy the technical area for just over 30 minutes before he was instructed by fourth official Rashby Mc Phie to leave zone.

Not long after, in the 37th minute, Central grabbed a 1-0 advantage against the run of play when Guerra, who was tripped just outside the box by defender Isaiah Mc Intyre, lifted a free kick over the wall and beyond Jabloteh’s Jamaican goalkeeper Shane Mattis’ reach.

Jabloteh had seemed the better drilled team in the opening moments and dominated the first half tries, inclusive of Newton Sterling heading a Caleb Sturge right-side corner inches over in the 16th minute.

The Jamaican Jabloteh forward also tested Central goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams from distance in the 18th minute, but the Trinidad and Tobago shot-stopper, who later denied Jabloteh full-back Garth Thomas in the 27th and 33rd minutes, was unbeatable.

Jabloteh tried to level the score-line before the break from a free-kick whipped in by Jamaican midfielder Damian Williams but star midfield teammate and countryman Fabian Reid guided a Sterling feed into the gloves of the Central 'keeper.

And in stoppage time of the first period Central also failed to benefit from a free-kick which was miserably struck high over-bar by Jason Marcano.

But in the second period everything fell apart for the “San Juan Kings” while Fenwick, up to his usual antics, was whistling instructions from the fencing that bordered the field.

Jabloteh hardman Jevon Morris was sent off in the 57th minute following successive yellow cards in a short space of four minutes. Morris picked up his first booking for elbowing Central FC’s Jamal Jack and was shown his second, followed by the automatic red, for a high boot on Marcano, as referee Cyrstal Sobers spared no leniency.

Sobers was forced to pull out the red card again in the 64th minute when Fabian Reid, unable to contain his frustration after his cry for foul was ignored, was sent off abusive language.

Central finally capitalised on the two-player advantage in the 77th minute for a 2-0 cushion with Jack – utilised as extra muscle in midfield – blasting past Mattis from close range following a quick exchange with Guerra inside the box.

Immediately after, things got even worse for coach Keith Jeffrey’s side when Sobers issued Sturge a direct red card after the Jabloteh full-back made suggestive remarks towards the female official after claiming he was fouled during the Central FC goal-scoring raid.

The match was finally put out of Jabloteh's reach five minutes from time.

Guerra slammed in his 13th league goal this season, hitting past Mattis – who made five saves in the second period – on a quick exchange with Willis Plaza inside the box to complete the 3-0 win.

By the end of the second match at the Macoya venue involving Central’s bitter rivals W Connection and Defence Force, Fenwick’s side were six points clear at the top of the table.

Central, with two league matches left to play (against North East Stars and Point Fortin Civic), remains at the summit with an improved 49 points, while Connection, with three matches remaining (against Police, Caledonia and Jabloteh), have 43 points.

Connection were stunned in as early as one minute and 9 seconds into the contest when prolific goal-scorer Devorn Jorsling, unmarked in the six yard, headed in a well-placed Jemel Sebro right side cross for a 1-0 lead.

Connection weren’t allowed much time to return to their senses as veteran Defence Force midfielder Jerwyn Balthazar made it 2-0 in the 6th minute.

Balthazar, connecting on a right side Kerry Joseph free-kick, guided the ball past goalkeeper Julani Archibald and into the back of the net.

Archibald was left to dry in the 41st minute and Jorsling, who had an incredible showing on the night, took his league tally this season to 16 goals with a superb volley from close up off Joseph right side delivery to make it 3-0 as Defence Force continued total domination. Jorsling continues to lead this season's league scorers' list.

But Connection prodigy Shahdon Winchester swooped in during stoppage-time of the first half to smash in a rebound past goalkeeper Sheldon Clarke, who initially parried a left side attempt by Akeem Garcia, reducing the deficit 1-3.

However winger Jemel Sebro restored Defence Force's three-goal lead and an unassailable 4-1 score in the 63rd minute, knocking in from close up following a smooth move on the right involving Balthazar and Aklie Edwards.

Connection, who played the allotted five minutes of stoppage-time with 10-men after substitute Aikim Andrews was carried off on the stretcher, was unlucky not to score in the 86th minute when substitute Jabari Mitchell’s blast clipped the underside of the cross-bar and back into play before another teenaged substitute Aaquil Campbell fired over-bar.

Mitchell, the Secondary Schools Player of the Year, had an open net to punish in the third minute of stoppage-time but shockingly headed over-bar off Winchester’s left side cross.

Connection had the ball in the back of the net four minutes earlier thanks to a well-executed run and finish by Jomal Williams, however the midfielder’s strike was disallowed by the offside rule.

Meanwhile the win moved Defence Force up one spot into third with 33 points, just as fourth placed Point Fortin Civic, who defeated cellar-placed St. Ann’s Rangers 2-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium to make upward movement.

Sayid Freitas opened the scoring in the 14th minute but Marcus Joseph notched his 14th league goal of the season to put Civic level in the 22nd minute before defender Weslie John made it 2-1 a minute from the break.

While in the second match at the Port of Spain venue, Purnell Schultz late winner in the 86th minute earned Caledonia AIA a 1-0 win over Police FC in their bottom-half-of-the-table clash. The Guyanese attacker taking his league scoring tally to 12 goals this season.

Jorsling hat-trick too hot for Civic as D/Force stay third; Jabloteh held by Cale'
ttproleague.com.

Manny Ramjohn Stadium, COUVA – Scoring ace, Devorn Jorsling, continued on his excellent form by bagging a hat-trick against Point Fortin Civic as Defence Force shrugged off the southerners 4-2 on Sunday to maintain hold of third position on the Digicel Pro League 2014-2015 standings with just two matches remaining.

While at the Larry Gomes Stadium, in the only other Round Three Match Day Seven contest on Sunday, sixth-placed San Juan Jabloteh (7-7-8, 28 points) needed to twice come from behind to pull off a 2-2 draw against eight-placed Caledonia AIA (7-5-10, 26 points).

Jorsling, coming off a double scored against second-placed defending champions DIRECTV W Connection on Tuesday, extended his lead at the top of the DPL scorers’ list with 19 goals – five ahead of Civic’s Marcus Joseph (14 goals) in second – while the Marvin Gordon-coached team improved their position with 36 points, three points ahead of Civic (33 points).

The pair trail leaders Central FC (15-4-3, 49 points) and Connection (13-4-4, 43 points), who have already caged the top two spots as the championship nears the end.

Jorsling, the former Toyota/TT Pro League Player of the Year and multiple-time Golden Boot winner, gave Defence Force a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute with a well-timed finish past Civic goalkeeper Akini Adams from inside the six-yard area following a perfectly placed Jerwyn Balthazar cross from the left.

But that lead wasn’t enough for the soldiers after Civic fired back on either side of the half, twice on rebounds, to take a 2-1 lead.

Only a minute had passed since Jorsling’s opening goal when Civic attacker Andre Toussaint equalised, 1-1, with only his fifth league goal this season when he pounced on a rebound to hit past Sheldon Clarke for a 1-1 score after the Defence Force goalie had initially made a low one-handed save to keep out a Joseph (M) strike.

Clarke, who had even made an earlier one-handed save to deny Joseph (M), was beaten again in the 55th minute as Civic celebrated a 2-1 lead.

Clarke had executed a brilliant save, pushing Shackiel Henry’s blast onto the crossbar, but was again left to dry by his defence and Civic midfielder Glenn Sutton capitalised on the rebound by hitting into the exposed net inside the box.

However Defence Force, undefeated in their previous three league outings, leveled the scores 2-2 on the hour mark with a cool finish by midfielder Kerry Joseph.

Joseph was slipped a pass inside the box by substitute Akeem Roach and with confidence the veteran struck the ball low to the right of Adams and into the far netting.

Then it was back to the Jorsling show. The 31-year-old overlooked Trinidad and Tobago forward pushed Defence Force ahead again with a 3-2 advantage in the 66th minute by bundling over the line a Joseph (K) cross.

And in the 73rd minute Jorsling, who had a goal ruled out in the 90th minute by the offside law, completed his scoring with an amazing left-footed 26-yard free-kick that Adams was unable to match after it entered the top corner for a 4-2 Defence Force lead.

On the opposite end in the 86th minute, Clarke preserved the soldiers’ two-goal cushion by pushing wide a close-range Sutton attempt. Then from the resulting corner, the Defence Force ‘keeper denied Weslie John.

Two minutes later Defence Force mesmerized Civic to create an excellent scoring opening following some silky passing but winger Ross Russell Jr. – son of former team coach Ross Russell – failed to capitalise. He also wasted a good scoring move in the 59th minute.

In Malabar, in a see-saw effect, Caledonia went ahead in the 18th minute from a Nathan Lewis strike before Nkosi David levelled Jabloteh in the 45th minute. Purnell Schultz later restored Caledonia’s lead in the 61st minute – the Guyana international forward taking his DPL scoring this season to 13 goals, tied with Central FC’s Ataullah Guerra – but former Toyota/TT Pro League Player of the Year and record holder for goals scored in a season, Kerry Baptiste, netted his ninth league goal of this season in the 66th minute to earn Jabloteh a 2-2 draw.

You can't blame Pro League for this one. Clubs were only informed where and when they were going in March by CFU. The confusion seems to be certain journalists paying no attention to details. You could easily find the information on Central F.C.s facebook page if nowhere else. You would have thought that sport journalists would have their tickets booked for the Caribbean Cup weeks ago?

If Central win vs Point but lose to North East, Connection must win their 3 games and score at least 14 goals. If goal difference is equal, I think it then goes on goals scored, then head to head.

Central FC 5 - P.F.C.C 2

Point went down to 10 men in the 11th min and were leading 2-1 in the 47th. Central were extremely casual and sloppy but made it 2-2 and then Plaza made it 3-2 in the 80th and they put 2 more in before full time..

If they blew that tonight they would have kicked themselves forever.... 1 more point to fully wrap it up

Actually, I felt Central started with real purpose. But when they were 1-0 up after a few mins and then Etienne was sent off, they completely relaxed. Very unprofessional. Point fought back well, but in the end, Central's fitness, Fenwicks tactical changes and sheer persistency told the tale.

Rangers stun D/Force; Peltier leads Jabloteh to victory against 14-year-old wielding Connection.
ttproleague.com.

St. Ann’s Rangers, thanks to some shabby goalkeeping on the opposite end, avoided a winless 2014-2015 Digicel Pro League season by defeating third placed finishers Defence Force 2-1 in the final match of the campaign on Friday in the first match of a Round Three Match Day Nine double header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

While in the second match, which saw referee Rodphin Harris issue a red card to either side, league runners-up W Connection (49 points) – six points behind league champions Central FC (55 points) – were defeated 3-2 by San Juan Jabloteh (31 points), who remained in a sixth place finish ahead of Police FC (27 points) and Caledonia AIA (26 points) in seventh and eight places respectively.

Connection’s starting line-up included 14-year-old prodigy Isaiah Hudson, the youngest player to ever take the field in the history of the Pro League, and 16-year-old full-back Keston Julien, who both serve the “Savonetta Boys” Under-17 and Reserve teams.

Connection started brightly thanks to a first half double by forward Jerrel Britto, taking his league scoring tally to 14 goals this season.

Britto, latching onto a neat Hashim Arcia pass inside the box in the 11th minute, executed a neat chip over Jabloteh’s Jamaican goalkeeper Shane Mattis, who was left beaten on the floor as Connection celebrated a 1-0 advantage.

Mattis was in trouble again in the 22nd minute, only able to push a 35-yard free-kick by Alvin Jones back into play but redeemed himself with an excellent low diving save to deny Hudson, a former Barcelona FC and AS Roma academy triallist.

However the Jabloteh goalie, who produced a save at full stretch to deny Arcia in the 72nd minute, was left to dry in the 27th minute when an unmarked Britto blasted in a half volley from near the back post for a 2-0 Connection cushion after a poor attempt to clear a Neil Benjamin cross landed the ball into his path.

But Jabloteh, led by 23-year-old former Connection player Johan Peltier, tied the scores in the first half before a superb second half winner by Tyrone Charles ended the match 3-2 in favour of coach Keith Jeffrey’s self-proclaimed “San Juan Kings”.

Peltier, unleashed by a pass from Charles in the 35th minute, shook off his challengers inside the box before firing low to beat Connection’s 23-year-old St. Kitts and Nevis international goalkeeper Julani Archibald with his third league goal this season for Jabloteh to reduce the deficit 1-2.

Two minutes later and coach Stuart Charles Fevrier’s Connection were in trouble again when defender Mekeil Williams' push on Peltier sent the Jabloteh midfielder to ground inside the box as he attempted to make his way towards goal. Referee Harris immediately pointed to the spot and awarded Williams (M) a yellow card but was forced to reach for his red card after being told off by the defender. Harris was also forced to show consecutive yellow cards to Jabloteh’s Damian Williams in the 90th minute after ruling a foul against the Jamaican midfielder who failed to keep his cool.

More drama ensued as Harris ordered a retake of the penalty with Connection guilty of encroachment after Archibald had made a low save to his right to deny Jabloteh’s Jamaican midfielder Adrian Reid.

But Reid on the second attempt in the 40th minute made no mistake to put his kick out of Archibald’s reach for a 2-2 score before the break. It was the Jamaican’s first league goal of the season.

Jabloteh, who held the “Savonetta Boys” 1-1 in Round One but were edged 1-0 in Round Two, finally grabbed the winner in the 76th minute.

Charles, set alight by a Peltier pass on the right, showed off excellent speed to enter the before blowing past goalkeeper Julani Archibald and hitting into an exposed net for his fifth league goal of the season in Jabloteh colours for the 3-2 finish. Charles also scored two league goals earlier this season while representing North East Stars.

Another former club of Charles, Rangers, had celebrated their biggest outing of the season, picking up the scalp of Defence Force, the side that won 3-2 in Round One before mauling them 7-0 in Round Two under previous coach Jason Spence.

After attempts by Rangers forward Jameel Antoine and midfielder Sedale Mc Lean in the 13th and 32nd minutes, respectively, and Defence Force forward Richard Roy in the 13th minute were all denied by the frame, the St. Ann’s club, coached by Ron La Forest, opened the scoring in the 42nd minute.

David Williams, with his first top flight goal, lifted a Mc Lean pass over Defence Force goalkeeper Andre Marchan before side stepping defender Jelani Felix to hit into an open net for a 1-0 lead.

But Jorsling, taking his league scoring tally 21 goals at the top of the scorers’ list this season and equalling his personal best in a season, levelled the scores 1-1 in stoppage time of the first half, with his 136th career Pro League goal, by driving a low shot off a Jerwyn Balthazar cross to beat Rangers goalie Christopher Biggette.

However a terrible mistake by Marchan in the 83rd minute to spill the ball into his own net after failing to keep grip on a floating 30-yard attempt by Sayid Freitas, handed Rangers a 2-1 win.

Defence Force, who had already consolidated their hold on third position, finished the season with 39 points, six clear of North East Stars and Point Fortin Civic, in fourth and fifth positions respectively with 33 points each. While Rangers, at an all-time low, finished the season with 5 points from 24 matches.

Action will continue on Saturday 2 May from 4 pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium with North East Stars against Caledonia AIA before the final league match on Tuesday 5 May between Point Fortin Civic and Police FC from 8 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium following a 6 pm clash between Caledonia AIA and St. Ann’s Rangers in the qualifier match for the 2015 Digicel Pro Bowl.

Late Cummings strike earns North East Stars late draw with Caledonia
ttproleague.com

North East Stars midfielder Keron Cummings scored with two minutes of regulation time left on Saturday at the Larry Gomes Stadium to earn North East Stars a late 1-1 draw with Caledonia AIA in their final Digicel Pro League 2014-2015 match.

The draw, courtesy Cumming’s 88th minute strike for his seventh league goal this season, shot the Angus Eve coached-North East Stars up a spot into fourth place with 34 points, one point ahead of Point Fortin Civic, who must face eight placed Police FC from 8 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday 5 May in the closing match of the 2014-2015 DPL championship.

While Caledonia, who moved up one spot into seventh place with 27 points, must return to action on Tuesday from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium to tackle cellar placed St. Ann’s Rangers in the qualifier match of the 2015 Digicel Pro Bowl, which is set to begin on Friday 8 May with the quarterfinal round.

On Saturday Guyana international Purnell Schultz handed Caledonia a 15th minute lead at the Malabar venue, with his 13th league goal of the season, but the Jerry Moe coached-Morvant/Laventille side were denied maximum points in the end by the 2015 TTFA FA Trophy winners North East Stars.

It was the sixth league draw this season for Caledonia, who finished with 7 wins and 10 defeats, while the Sangre Grande based-North East Stars finished with 9 wins, 7 draws and 8 defeats, 21 points away from league champions Central FC (55 points). W Connection (49 points) finished in second and Defence Force (39 points) in third.

Police deny Civic 4th spot
By Ian Prescott (Express).

Police FC ended the Digicel Pro League (DPL) championship with a 3-0 win over Point Fortin Civic on Tuesday night at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

The match also brought to a close the 2014-2015 edition of the Pro League and ensured that North East Stars ended in fourth spot.

Police’s win denied Civic the point which would have taken them past the “Grande Stars” on goal-difference. Civic and Stars both ended last season on 42 points, with Civic having the better goal difference. This time, Stars (34 points), ended a point clear of the deep South team.

Civic won the two previous meetings against Police 2-0 and 3-1 this season, but were no match for the Lawmen on Tuesday. Police got goals from Christon Thomas (37th minute), Makesi Lewis (44th) and Todd Ryan (58th) from the penalty spot.

Still, Civic had early chances to take the lead through midfielder Kelvin Modeste and Andre Toussaint, before Christon Thomas shot the Police ahead 1-0 in the 37th minute, when defensive lapse allowed Shaquille Nesbitt’s low cross to reach Thomas, who made no mistake in putting his strike out of the goalkeeper’s reach for a 1-0 lead.

Lewis added a second in the 44th minute, drilling a right footer past Phillip from the right of the penalty area. And after leading 2-0 at half time, Todd Ryan converted his spot kick in the 58th minute. Referee Rodphin Harris awarded a penalty when defender Rondell Paul handled the ball.
