West Indies squad for 2nd Dhaka Bank Test vs Bangladesh
Windies to play 500th Test Match at Beausejour
GROS ISLET, St Lucia – The Selection Panel of the West Indies Cricket Board announced today the 13-member West Indies squad for the second and final Dhaka Bank Test against Bangladesh, at Beausejour Cricket Ground, St Lucia.
The match will be played from Saturday, September 13 to Wednesday, September 17. This will be the West Indies’ 500th match since entering Test cricket in 1928.
West Indies lead the two-match Dhaka Bank Test Series 1-0 following their victory by 10 wickets at Arnos Vale, St Vincent on Tuesday.

Ticket special for fans as Windies play historic 500th Test Match
GROS ISLET, St Lucia – Cricket lovers are in for a special treat as the West Indies cricket team prepares for the 500th Test match in West Indies cricket history.
The West Indies Cricket Board announced a “buy one get one free” on tickets for the historic second Dhaka Bank Test against Bangladesh at the picturesque Beausejour Cricket Ground in St Lucia.
“This is a golden opportunity to be part of an historic moment in West Indies cricket history. Our favourite team will be playing the 500th Test match and we know our supporters will want to be come out and celebrate this grand occasion,” said Nelecia Yeates, WICB Commercial Manager.
“We want our fans to see their team on show and also for visitors to get a feel of the rich culture of cricket in the Caribbean. We have come up with great ticket prices and the added incentive of an extra ticket for free for a family member or a friend. This will allow everyone to be part of the Dhaka Bank Series and see some enthralling Test cricket.”
The second Dhaka Bank Test will be played from Saturday, September 13 to Wednesday, September 18. West Indies lead the two-match Dhaka Bank Test Series 1-0 following their 10-wicket victory earlier this week at Arnos Vale, St Vincent.

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) — West Indies bowler Sulieman Benn says he has been improving as a spinner since his return to the regional Test side after four years.
The left-arm orthodox spinner grabbed five wickets for 39 runs to help bowl out Bangladesh for 182 in their first innings of the first Test match against West Indies.
Benn, who last played a Test in December 2010, was recalled to reinforce the West Indies' spin department.
"I am enjoying my bowling and when I first got back in against New Zealand, I did not bowl too well," said Benn.
"As that series progressed I got better and better and at this moment I am finding my way nicely."
Benn's five-wicket haul helped to propel West Indies into a commanding position against Bangladesh at Arnos Vale.
The Barbadian spinner revealed that extra pace on his deliveries worked in his favour against the visitors.
"The pitch was slow and the difference between the Bangladesh bowlers and myself was that they bowled too slow," said Benn.
"I normally bowl quick for a spinner, so I was able to put some pace on the ball and this added to the problems for their batsmen."
West Indies were on course to victory over Bangladesh in the first Test which went into a fifth day on Tuesday.
Both sides meet in the second Test match from Saturday at Beausejour cricket ground in St Lucia.
"My job is to take wickets and I am going to just continue keeping it basic and hopefully the wickets will continue to come," said Benn.
"We want to win this series and even if the wickets don't fall at my end, once I can keep up the pressure and they fall at the other end, I am happy as well."

GROS ISLET, St Lucia – Captain Denesh Ramdin says it is an honour to lead the West Indies team in the historic 500th Test match. The Windies will celebrate the milestone when they Bangladesh in the second Dhaka Bank Test match at Beausejour, St Lucia on Saturday.
The skipper said his team will look to make it a special celebration for West Indies fans worldwide and seal a 2-0 result in the Dhaka Bank Test Series.
The second Dhaka Bank Test will be played from Saturday, September 13 to Wednesday, September 18. West Indies lead the two-match Dhaka Bank Test Series 1-0 following their 10-wicket victory earlier this week at Arnos Vale, St Vincent.

West Indies will hope to mark their 500th Test with a victory when they face Bangladesh in the second and final Test at the Beausejour Cricket Ground here today. They swept aside the visitors by ten wickets in the first encounter at Arnos Vale earlier this week and with the added motivation of the historical landmark, will again fancy their chances of an equally dominant win.
West Indies played their first Test match against England at Lords in 1928, rising to the pinnacle of World cricket in the 1970s and 1980s. And though their star has long receded, the significance of the second Test is not lost on the side’s newest captain Denesh Ramdin.
“This is a very special occasion... everyone is looking forward to it. This is very exciting. We will look to come out and give a good account our ourselves as we did in the last match in St Vincent so hopefully our bowlers can get the job done here and our batters can put runs on the board,” said Ramdin who replaced Darren Sammy at the helm last June.
“I am honoured, happy and privileged to be the man leading the team in this historic match. This is not just a special occasion for us as players but also for West Indians everywhere and West Indies fans and supporters worldwide.”
He added: “This is something for us to cherish and celebrate and we will look to win and celebrate the match and the series. We want to pay tribute to all the great people who have contributed to the history and develop of West Indies cricket so that helps to add to the special occasion.”
Occasion aside, the Windies will want to emphasise the gulf between the two teams by again winning handily. They batted once at Arnos Vale, compiling nearly 500 runs, but that was built upon 21-year-old opener Kraigg Brathwaite’s marathon career-best 212.
Shiv Chanderpaul, Chris Gayle and Darren Bravo all got half-centuries against a Bangladeshi attack which lacked bite. Gayle will miss the game as he deals with a personal matter and has been replaced in the squad by Guyana left-hander Leon Johnson. If he makes his debut, he will be the 300th Test player for West Indies.
The Windies will again brandish an ...attack laden with pace and with the pitch carrying grass, Ramdin is hoping his fast bowling trio of Kemar Roach, Jerome Taylor and Shannon Gabriel can exploit conditions.
“I believe it will have a lot more bounce,” the 29-year-old wicket-keeper said. “I’ve played a lot of matches here, first class matches and T20s, and a couple of 50-over matches and the ball has carried quite a lot throughout the innings so hopefully our faster bowlers can get the purchase here that they didn’t get in St Vincent.”
With tough assignments in India and South Africa ahead later this year, Ramdin knows the importance of stacking up victories now to create momentum. He’s also still waiting for his first series win having conceded the three-Test rubber to New Zealand back in June, and says the historic moment presents the ideal opportunity.
“The type of cricket both teams are playing the match will have a result and once we do what we need to do as a team-- as batters as bowlers-- and execute the plans that we have set out in this match we should be able to come out on top,” Ramdin said. “It would be fantastic to win my first series as captain in what is the 500th Test match. Over the last couple of days the guys have put in some really good work and we are raring to go come tomorrow.”

West Indies have a distinct advantage ahead of their 500th Test. Besides their 1-0, Bangladesh's state of mind would be at a low ebb after seamer Al-Amin Hossain was reported for a suspect action and Imrul Kayes was ruled out with a skin infection.
The hosts have one setback of their own with Chris Gayle unavailable due to "personal matters." Leon Johnson, who is yet to make his debut, comes in place of a man with over 100 Tests. The rest of Denesh Ramdin's team looks well settled in this series. Apart from a favourable result on their milestone Test, West Indies have a chance to win their first Test series in 2014.
Kraigg Brathwaite, with his maiden double-hundred, would have taken the most out of the first Test, and his captain has urged him to continue playing his natural game. The responsibility would then be on the likes of Kirk Edwards, Darren Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul to play around Brathwaite, if he drops anchor.
West Indies' bowling doesn't particularly have a leader, but the left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn took five wickets and was seen constantly chatting to the other bowlers. Kemar Roach would feel encouraged by his four-wicket haul in the second innings, which makes 2014 his best year since the 39 wickets he took in 2012.
Bangladesh's confidence has taken a significant hit with a 3-0 defeat in the ODIs before conceding the St Vincent Test. They batted better in the second innings but still could only manage a negligible target. They are also unsure on using Al-Amin because of the scrutiny on his action. The obvious risk is that the umpires may call him again but Sohag Gazi played the third ODI after he was reported, and so has Prosper Utseya without any incidents. Although the same umpires who reported him, Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth, are in charge of the second Test too.
The occasion may make West Indies a bit nervous, and it would be factors like these that Bangladesh would have to latch on to and salvage an already wretched tour.

Players to watch
The pace of Kraigg Brathwaite's double hundred was under the scanner throughout the first Test, but ultimately West Indies won with more than two sessions to spare. But neither he nor his captain wants anything different which means Bangladesh will have to continue working very hard to dismiss him.
For a player of Mahmudullah's quality, it was only a matter of time before he ended a 21-month drought for a Test half-century. With that bogey off his back, there is always a chance that his bowling would improve too.

With Chris Gayle out, it is unlikely that West Indies will drop Kirk Edwards despite his run of low scores during this series. Edwards could well open considering Leon Johnson has mostly played at No 3 in first-class cricket. With a 1-0 lead to fall back on, it is also unlikely that they would pick a five-man bowling attack by bringing in either Jason Holder or Shane Shillingford.

Pitch and conditions
Ramdin's observations regarding the pitch at Beausejour Stadium indicates there might be more grass than at St Vincent and the quicks would enjoy good bounce and carry. This will only be the fourth Test at the venue, and the first after eight years.

The visiting Bangladesh cricket team will be looking to crash the West Indies’ 500th Test match party as the two sides take on each other in the second and final Test starting from today at the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia.
Following a convincing 10-wicket victory in the first Test at St. Vincent, the hosts are eyeing another polished display while the visitors will be desperate to end their 38-day Caribbean tour on a high.
Having been swept aside 3-0 in the one-day internationals before poor weather forced the abandonment of the solitary Twenty20 International, Bangladesh went down to a humiliating defeat in the first Test despite an improved batting performance in the second innings.
Asked to bat first by Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim which was later criticised in many quarters, the hosts racked up 484-7 declared, thanks in large part to 212 from opener Kraigg Brathwaite and an obdurate 85 from Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
In reply, Bangladesh struggled to 182 all out as spinner Sulieman Benn took five wickets, and they were subsequently asked to follow-on.
Second time around, the away side did much better as they reached 314 all out, led by 116 from Mushfiq, who was unbeaten on 48 in the first innings. This was the 13th time Bangladesh were made to follow on in Tests but only the third time they scored enough runs in the second innings to make the opposition bat and avoid an innings defeat.
That left West Indies just 13 runs to win, a target they passed without any hiccups.
However, host captain Denesh Ramdin said he was concerned by his side’s poor catching, so that is something they will be looking to improve in this game.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh will need to replicate the fight they showed in the second innings and try to avoid the batting collapses that have plagued them recently.
The visitors went into the first Test with eight batsmen and three bowlers but the decision backfired as the hosts posted a healthy first innings total. According to sources, Bangladesh will be heading into the final Test with four bowlers and seven batsmen.
Imrul Kayes, who has a skin infection and was ruled out of the remainder of the tour, will be replaced by Anamul Haque while the extra bowler, either pacer Shafiul Islam or Robiul Islam, is likely to come in to the side in place of Shuvagata Hom who had a forgettable debut after making 16 and nought. Pace bowler Al Amin Hossain, whose action was called into question after the conclusion of the first Test, will also feature.
Going into the final Test, Bangladesh received a boost as Mushfiq improved eight spots to 30th in the International Cricket Council rankings for Test batsmen. He became the highest-ranked Bangladesh batsman, followed by Tamim Iqbal in 44th place.
The track at St. Lucia would turn out to be a good deck for batting. However, with Dukes being used in the West Indies these days, the quicker bowlers may generate a bit of swing in the air. Spinners may come into play later on in the Test match. Plenty of showers are expected in the eastern Caribbean island throughout this game, much like the first Test at St. Vincent which was also blighted by rain.

It was comfortable out there for Brathwaite and Johnson, who weren't tested anywhere near consistently enough, and they've batted well to go to lunch unbeaten, even if they haven't set St. Lucia on fire with their scoring rate.

5.20pm Excellent first day for West Indies in their 500th Test, set up by a patient century stand from their openers who saw out the first session when the pitch was at its most helpful to the bowlers. Bangladesh's bowlers, though, didn't bowl all that well at the start, and they will rue that, because they have been much much better since breaking that opening partnership. They will also rue the two dropped catches, particularly the one that gave Chanderpaul a life when he was batting on 34. As it stands, they will have to come back tomorrow and contend with Darren Bravo, who is six runs from his fifty, and Chanderpaul, who usually makes teams pay for dropping him.

Guyanese batsman Leon Johnson scored a half century on debut, as the West Indies controlled the opening day of the second Dhaka Bank Test at the Beausejour cricket ground in St Lucia yesterday. Prior to the start of play, Johnson was presented his maroon cap by one of the greatest West Indian players ever, Sir Clive Lloyd and this must have motivated him, as he scored 66 to leave the West Indies on 246 for three at the end of the first day's play of their 500th Test match. Also joining in the celebration of the tremendous milestone were the inform Kraigg Brathwaite 63, Darren Bravo 44 not out and Shivnarine Chanderpaul 34 not out.
Earlier, Johnson became the 300th West Indian Test player and he was immediately thrown into the spotlight, as he was asked to open the batting with Brathwaite, after Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim called correctly at the toss. The left-hander came into the game with knowledge of the visitors bowling attack, as some of the bowlers were involved in Bangladesh A team tour of the region recently. Johnson was dominant during that series, scoring four half-centuries and compiling 235 runs in the two four-day “Tests” at an average of 78.
He took his time to get going in the big stage and he and the sedate Brathwaite took the score to 61 without loss at lunch. On the resumption, the duo did not dominate but played each ball on merit and were both able to get to their half centuries. Johnson was the first to the mark, completing it off 135 balls with two fours and a six. Brathwaite, who scored a double century in the opening Test, was soon touching his gloves as he got to his half century as well. He posted it off 129 balls and had three hits to the fence. The Bangladeshis had ran into a a wall as, the two ticked over the scoring to 143 before the visitors, finally had something to cheer about. Brathwaite was able to deal with some very good bowling throughout his innings, as Bangladesh adopted a good line and length for most of the time. However, he could not handle an absolute rubbish delivery and left for 63.
After spending 214 minutes off studied application, he reached for a short, wide delivery from Shafiul Islam and patted it to point. He faced 150 balls and struck five fours. As is often the case, after a big partnership, when one partner goes the other follows and this was the case for Johnson. He was unlucky though, as he was given leg before wicket to Taijul Islam and took too long to review. Hawkeye later showed that although he was struck in line, the ball was going to miss leg stump. His dream lasted for 227 minutes, faced 162 balls and struck five fours and a six. After losing two wickets in the space off two runs, the West Indies avoided a collapse, as Bravo and the off colour Kirk Edwards posted 40 runs for the third wicket. Edwards' struggles continued, as he batted for an hour, faced 52 balls and got just 16 runs. After Edwards fell, Bravo and Chanderpaul put together an unbroken 61-run partnership in 24 overs, to keep the West Indies on top. This game is taking shape just as the opening Test which the West Indies won by 10 wickets. When play resumes today, the overnight pair will be looking to pile on the pressure, as the Windies look to bat Bangladesh out of the Test match.

5.30pm A day that began promisingly from Bangladesh has ended with the team in a pall of gloom. Kemar Roach has bowled excellently, bowling a predominantly full length, with that inward angle making the batsmen play at everything, and mixing those up with enough short balls to keep messing with their footwork.
Only Tamim Iqbal looked comfortable, but even he couldn't help poking at one outside off, and Bangladesh have simply fallen away since then.
West Indies have a quality new-ball pair, and hopefully Roach and Taylor can continue their good work against India and then South Africa as well. For now, West Indies look like they are on their way to a 2-0 series win here. But they still need 12 more wickets for that, and who can say that Bangladesh can't fight back tomorrow.

The pace was too hot for Bangladesh yesterday at the Beausejour Stadium. Their batsmen could not handle Kemar Roach who picked up his sixth five-wicket haul in Tests to put the West Indies firmly in charge of the second Dhaka Bank Test match. After their bowlers had worked hard to restrict West Indies to 380 in their first innings after the home side had resumed on 246 for three, the Bangladeshis stumbled to 104 for seven by the close, still trailing by 276 runs with just three first innings wickets remaining.
After their 10-wicket loss in the first Test, the tourists were hoping to at least restore some pride in St Lucia, but Roach put paid to that in the day’s final session.
He removed Shamsur Rahman in the sixth over and after tea, and accounted for Anamul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Nasir Hossain and Taijul Islam to complete his first five-for of the year following a lengthy lay-off with a shoulder injury.
The Bangladesh batsmen struggled to cope with deliveries pitched on a good length or further up.
Apart from Roach’s five, Jerome Taylor took two wickets while Shannon Gabriel went wicketless, but the plan to attack Bangladesh was a three-man strategy.
West Indies had earlier been bowled out 55 minutes after lunch, leaving veteran left-hander
Shiv Chanderpaul stranded short of a century for the second straight innings.
He finished 84 not out, an innings that consumed 198 balls, lasted just under 4-1/2 hours and included eight fours.
Chanderpaul engaged in two key partnerships to rally West Indies after they lost four wickets for 18 runs early in the first session to slump to 269 for seven from their overnight 246 for three.
They suffered an early setback when Darren Bravo, not out on 44 overnight, added just two before flashing at one from seamer Robiul Islam and getting an edge through to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim.
The wicket triggered a slide which saw four wickets tumble for 18 runs, as Jermaine Blackwood fell for eight and captain Denesh Ramdin and Kemar Roach both departed without scoring.
Chanderpaul then put on an entertaining 54 for the eighth wicket with Taylor who counter-attacked for his 40 off just 32 balls, lashing five fours and two sixes, to rally West Indies past the 300-run mark before holing out in the deep off left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.
Sulieman Benn followed up with 25 in helping to post 52 for ninth wicket before hooking pacer Al-Amin Hossain to deep fine leg where Shafiul Islam accepted the chance.
On 83 at that stage, Chanderpaul was not afforded the opportunity to add many more as seamer Robiul Islam rattled Shannon Gabriel’s stumps in the next over.

Five for Roach as Bangladesh struggle again in Caribbean

Bangladesh continued to struggle on their tour of the Caribbean as they ended the second day of the second and final test against West Indies trailing by 276 runs with just three first innings wickets remaining.
After their 10-wicket loss in the first test, the tourists were hoping to at least restore some pride in Saint Lucia but five wickets from West Indies pace bowler Kemar Roach put paid to that.
Resuming on 246 for three, West Indies were bowled out for 380, an hour after lunch.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul was unbeaten on 84 for West Indies after Al-Amin Hossain earned reward for some fine seam bowling as he finished with 3-80.
But Roach was quickly among the wickets, removing the top three in the Bangladesh batting order for 62 runs, with Tamim Iqbal the only one to get started with his 48.
Jerome Taylor claimed the wicket of Mominul Haque thanks to a brilliant diving catch at short leg by Jermaine Blackwood.
Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, who has held together Bangladesh's batting on the tour, was bowled by Taylor for four as the tourists found themselves at 68 for five.
Roach then removed Nasir Hossain and Taijul Islam as the tourists closed on 104 for seven and face a long haul to save the test.

There was some fight this morning, with Mahmudullah passing 1000 Test runs in the course of a gritty fifty. But that was the only one of the innings. There were seven single-digit scores though. Something they seriously need to assess.

Kemar Roach has set a high target for himself after completing his first five-wicket haul of the year. Roach ripped through the Bangladesh batting line-up on the second day in St Lucia, leaving West Indies 13 wickets away from completing a 2-0 sweep.
"I want to get to No. 1 in the world," Roach said. "So I am trying to take steps towards that and obviously keep taking wickets, keep moving up the rankings and keep helping West Indies win games.
"It feels good on a bowler-friendly wicket to hit the straps early. Getting some wickets against the Bangladeshis is a good feeling for me and for the West Indies as well. We have seven wickets so far and hopefully we can come on tomorrow and finish the game."
Roach's 5 for 33 was his sixth five-wicket haul and it made him West Indies' highest wicket-taker this year. He is currently ranked No. 10 in Test cricket, the highest place among West Indies bowlers.
Roach had also claimed four second-innings wickets during the first Test, triggering Bangladesh's final day collapse in a period when the visitors were beginning to look promising. On Sunday, Roach pitched the ball slightly fuller than good length. The bouncer was his key delivery, mainly due to the Bangladesh batsmen's unease against this particular length. Roach said though the pitches in St Lucia and St Vincent were different, it did not affect the way the two teams played.
"This pitch was much-more bowler-friendly. Much more bounce in the wicket, the ball seaming around early on. The wicket in St Vincent was flat, very hard to bowl on and the guys, once they got set, it was hard to get them out. But here, they all gave chances with the ball. I was trying to be consistent on the good length outside off stump with the occasional bumper. They help you get rewards.
"I tried to break out of the box today. The guys are not very friendly to short-bowling. I used it, set the batsmen back and set them up. I have been in good form for the last couple of months and I am going to take it on from there and take it on to further series."
Roach also paid tribute to West Indies' bowling consultant Curtly Ambrose, who is often seen during matches ambling across to fine leg and speaking to the likes of Roach, Jerome Taylor and Shannon Gabriel.
"As a legend of the game, it's great to have him around. He's very skillful and knowledgeable about the bowling," Roach said. "He helps us a lot when it comes to line and length in our bowling, so I must give credit to him as well. He tells us stories from back in the day and it is good for us youngsters to have someone like him around."

West Indies, on the close of the third day, hold a staggering 427-run lead, and will probably look to bat on for at least an hour in tomorrow's morning session. Chanderpaul and Blackwood have been terrific after the openers put on a solid 76-run stand. Chanderpaul reaches his third fifty on the trot, and I wonder if he will indeed get a hundred tomorrow before the team decide on a declaration?

Shiv Chanderpaul’s second half-century of the match and third in as many innings, propelled West Indies to a massive lead and left Bangladesh with a Herculean task of saving the second Test. At the close of the third day yeserday, West Indies were 208 for four, already a lead of 427 runs, with two days still left in the contest at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Once again, it was Chanderpaul who was at the heart of the Windies progress, finishing on 63 not out to follow up his unbeaten 84 in the first innings. He has so far added 108 for the fifth wicket with Jermaine Blackwood, who was in sight of his second Test half-century on 43. Chanderpaul has so far faced 98 balls and struck five fours while Blackwood has hit a four and a six off 96 deliveries.
Their stand was required when West Indies slumped to 100 for four, 20 minutes after tea, courtesy of a double strike by off-spinner Mahmudullah who removed Darren Bravo for seven and then opener Kraigg Brathwaite in quick succession.
West Indies had earlier claimed a commanding 219-run lead, after left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn picked up two of the last three wickets to fall as Bangladesh were bowled out for 161 in their first innings. Resuming from their overnight 104 for seven, the visitors were eventually dismissed 20 minutes before lunch, with Benn finishing with two for 19. Seamers Kemar Roach, who took five for 42, and Jerome Taylor, two for 41, failed to add to their spoils from Sunday.
Bangladesh kept the Windies wicket-less for nearly 45 minutes in the morning session with Mahmudullah, overnight on 13, taking the fight to the Windies bowlers with a top score of 53. He faced 100 balls and struck two fours and a six, extending the eighth wicket stand with Shafiul Islam (10) to 45.
It was pacer Shannon Gabriel who got the breakthrough in the third over of his first spell of the morning, finding Shafiul’s edge through to wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin at 134 for eight. After the drinks break, Mahmudullah clubbed Gabriel over the ropes at mid-wicket and then raised his half-century but banging a full toss from the same bowler to the long on boundary. However, he was gone two balls later in the next over when he edged a cut at Benn behind and Robiul Islam followed soon afterward, lbw without scoring to the lanky Barbadian.

West Indies are well on their way to whitewashing Bangladesh in the Dhaka Bank Test series, as they batted them out of the game on day three of the second and final Test yesterday, at the Beausejour Cricket ground in St Lucia.
After amassing 380 all out in their first innings, the West Indies dismissed Bangladesh for 161 yesterday, but did not enforce the follow-on. With a lead off 219 runs, the Caribbean boys finished on 208 for four, for an overall lead off 427 runs with two days left.
Sulieman Benn grabbed two of the three wickets to fall yesterday while Shannon Gabriel got the other.
Kemar Roach did not add to his five wickets of the previous day.
The West Indies innings started ten minutes before lunch with Bangladesh opting to open with the spin bowling off Taijul Islam.
Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Leon Johnson batted positively with Johnson looked particularly sound and timing the ball sweetly. His crisp stroke play interrupted the afternoon nap for many at the ground. Even the usually sedate Brathwaite moved the score along quickly. The Barbadian, who has been in rich form this season, smacked his first six in Test cricket in the process.
Together they posted 76 before an advancing Johnson was yorked by spinner Islam. He scored 41 off just 59 balls with the help off eight fours. Immediately after, Kirk Edwards walked back to the pavilion as well, scoring just two and more than likely cancelling his ticket to India for the upcoming tour.
Darren Bravo also continued his struggles, falling to Mahmudullah for a 29-ball seven. Mahmudullah also removed Brathwaite, who made 45 after batting for 139 minutes and facing 112 balls. He sent three to he fence and one over it.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul and the youthful Jermaine Blackwood were left to take the West Indies out of spot of bother at 100 for four and they did just that. They added an unbroken 108 runs for the fifth wicket.
Chanderpaul, coming into this innings with an unbelievable average off 582.00 against Bangladesh over the last two series, continued to punish them. He scored 59 not out, 203 not out, 1, 150 not out, 85 not out, 84 not out and yesterday got 62 not out. The lone occasion he was dismissed he batted an number 11 because he was not well and made one.
Blackwood and Chanderpaul weathered the spin and was able to milk runs during the final session. Chanderpaul brought up his 66th Test fifty in 109 minutes, off 84 balls with three fours. He batted the best he has this series and Blackwood was able to feed off him.
One straight drive in particular off Robiul Islam was special and the bowler must have thought that the slight earth tremor felt at the same time, was as a result of that shot.
When the balls were flicked by the umpires, Blackwood was unbeaten on 43 off 96 balls with one four and a six.
Earlier, Bangladesh resumed on 104 for seven and Mahmudullah was able to take them close to the follow-on mark off 181. They folded for 161 but more importantly they ate away nearly two hours with stubborn batting. Mahmudullah stroked the ball well, middling almost everything and scored a half century before he was sent back by Sulieman Benn.
The tall Barbadian had him caught by wicketkeeper Ramdin—his fifth catch off the innings for 53. He batted for 161 minutes, faced 100 balls and struck two fours and a six. Benn finished with 2/19, while Roach took 5/42.

Mushfiqur is not content with how things have gone, believing that the West Indies will bat on for a little while today before the visitors are given a turn. The execution of his bowlers and fielders have not quite been up to the mark. He knows fully well he is on the back foot, and he wants his team to show some fight and guts. Believes the wicket is still a good one to bat on, despite the manner of his dismissal in the first innings.

Visible signs of delight on the Guyanese batsmen's face as he walks off after a job well done. Bangladesh face a huge target as they get themselves ready to bat for the long haul. Blackwood also deserves credit for the supporting hand he played, getting himself to a career-high score of 66*.

This good length ball jags back quite sharply, beats the batsman for pace as he was looking to flick. The impact was over the knee-roll and the off stump was visible too. 5.12pm From sitting pretty at 158 for 2, Bangladesh have managed to slump to 192 all out as West Indies complete a 2-0 series whitewash with this 296-run win. Suliemann Benn was once again the dangerous commodity as he picked up a well-earned sixth five-wicket haul. He was ably supported by the efforts of the pacemen, who bowled with real menace on a supportive track.

West Indies end this series by winning each and every match, bar the T20 which was rained out. Bangladesh go back home, and will hope they can take some meaningful points from the series as they look ahead.

Kraigg Brathwaite, Man of the Series: Coming here I had some confidence. I just wanted to keep that momentum going through the Tests. It was a great pitch, obviously first day it was doing a fair bit. It got a bit better batting later on. It is going to be a tough series (against India), but I know we have the guys to give them a challenge. Everybody is coming together and working hard, and we are all just really enjoying the moment.

Denesh Ramdin, West Indies captain: It feels amazing to win these matches. It was an all-around team effort. Brathwaite and Johnson started well and then Roach just bowled beautifully. We just wanted to keep the run rate down and create opportunities for wickets. We also tried to switched the bowlers around with the ends and bowl into the breeze. It was a very good batting pitch, but when the ball is moving it is always tough for the new batsmen. Brathwaite and Chanderpaul stood out for the entire series. They really went out there and batted and batted, and put the opposition out of the game. Really glad to have them on board.
Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh captain: Tamim and Mominul fought it out, but then we collapsed. We need to improve. Throughout the series, and even over the last few years, we have struggled (with collapses). We need to be tough for the whole session, and not just one hour or two hours. I think Tamim played really well, along with Mominul and Mahmudullah. Taijul and Al-Amin have also performed, but as a group we need to perform. Let's see how we do when we get back home.
Shiv Chanderpaul, Man of the Match: Winning the Test match is the most important thing. That was our aim from the beginning. We just tried to get as much as we could in the first innings, and then see where we could go. (when asked about not being dismissed this series) Can't think about getting out, and need to think about batting the next day, and hopefully I can maintain this as long as possible (when asked about his age and pushing on). Let's see how far I can go.

Sulieman Benn snuffed out Bangladesh's resistance with his sixth five-for to ensure West Indies won their 500th Test emphatically and complete a 2-0 series whitewash.
Bangladesh conceded their last eight wickets for 34 runs, emblematic of their fortunes in 2014. Ultimately the fight from Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque for nearly three hours ended up a footnote.
Benn posed a constant threat, questioning them with some turn and uneven bounce. With only the lunch break to refresh himself, he bowled unchanged from the 10th to the 50th overs. His perseverance was rewarded when Tamim was lured by the swathes of space on the leg side and top-edged a slog sweep into Shannon Gabriel's waiting hands. This was 3.42pm and by the next 23 minutes, Bangladesh's middle-order was ripped open.
Mahmudullah fell in the next over, the 60th, trapped lbw by an indipper from Gabriel. His review only confirmed the fact that the ball would have hit leg stump. Mominul struck the first ball of the next over, a full-toss from Benn, down midwicket's throat. He and Tamim had ground 110 runs in 47.1 overs to inspire hope in the dressing room. But when Nasir Hossain fell for 2, the collapse had reached its crescendo and ultimately turned the day into an anti-climax. Bangladesh had been 158 for 2 and lost four wickets for nine runs.
Taijul Islam was sent in at No. 8 once again, possibly for being a left-handed batsman. But he hardly looked a better choice than Shafiul Islam, who followed him to the crease in the 69th over. Taijul's wicket was Benn's fifth, as he became the fifth West Indian spinner to take seven or more five-wicket hauls. Jerome Taylor became the 20th West Indian to 100 Test wickets by bowling Mushfiqur Rahim, for a second time in the match, and Robiul Islam'. The innings ended when Shafiul's stumps were splayed in the 78th over by Kemar Roach.
Jerome Taylor got through Mushfiqur Rahim's defenses for a second time in the match, bowling him with a delivery that nipped through bat and pad. This was his 99th Test wicket and four balls later, he made it 100 by clean bowling Robiul Islam, and became the 20th West Indian to reach the milestone.
The innings ended when Shafiul moved away to cut a ball, but Kemar Roach was too quick for him, ending the innings in the 78th over.
The collapse soured some dogged batting from Mominul and Tamim. They got together at 48 for 2 with lunch only a few minutes away. They got through that tricky period and progressed cautiously to tea - making it the second session of the tour that Bangladesh hadn't lost a wicket. There had been an opportunity though but Darren Bravo dropped a regulation chance of Mominul at first slip.
Neither batsman was perturbed by playing for time. They spent 21 overs without a boundary and Tamim's 181-ball 64 was his fourth-longest innings in terms of balls faced and his count of two fours and a six was the lowest when he had played over 100 balls.
Strokeplay was not completely shelved though as Tamim slogged Benn to the midwicket boundary twice in the 28th over. Mominul hit straighter when the left-arm spinner overpitched, confirming a plan to only find boundaries when they are sure of a bad ball.
A passing drizzle forced an early tea and but both batsmen continued diligently on with Tamim reaching his slowest fifty, off 146 balls. He followed it up with a drive that tore through the covers as Bangladesh recorded only their second hundred partnership of the series. It was also the second century stand between Tamim and Mominul, the first also coming in a rearguard action against New Zealand in October last year.
Mominul then reached his fifty, also his slowest, off 125 balls. Two overs later, Tamim threw it away and so would Mominul.
Bangladesh's troubles began in the first session after Ramdin declared with 75 minutes before the lunch interval. Shamsur Rahman's response to the task of batting out a minimum of 169 overs was to go after the bowling, but his jaunt lasted just 38 minutes. He drove a couple of overpitched deliveries to the boundary before launching into Taylor's short ball barrage. He flicked a boundary then pulled another four a six off successive balls, taking 16 off the seventh over.
The only fielder Ramdin pushed back was Kirk Edwards to deep square-leg, who had to wait for four balls in Taylor's next over before Shamsur's out-of-control hook landed in his lap. A 27-ball 39 at the top of the scorecard would stick out as a sore thumb when the situation of the match is considered.
Ramdin quickly swapped Taylor out with Suleiman Benn and gained immediate reward. Anamul Haque followed one that turned and bounced to nick off for a duck.
West Indies' control of the Test at the decisive stage comes courtesy of Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 30th Test hundred. When he tucked away his 134th ball round the corner for a single, he not only went past Sir Don Bradman's 29 centuries, he became only the second batsman to remain undefeated throughout a Test series (minimum of three innings) and scored 200-plus runs. He has made 269 runs with two fifties and the century. Jacques Kallis was the first to do so, against Zimbabwe in 2001.

A century from Shiv Chanderpaul, Sulieman Benn’s five-wicket haul and three wickets from Jerome Taylor helped, as West Indies ran rings around Bangladesh to win by 296 runs in the second Test and claim a two-nil series win, yesterday.
Chasing an insurmountable 488 to win, Bangladesh collapsed from 158 for three to 188 all-out in the final session of the fourth day of the scheduled five-day match as West Indies produced another command performance.
Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque staged an amazing fight back for the tourists by adding 110 runs for the third wicket after coming together at 48 for two. In only their second hundred partnership of the series opener Iqbal played patiently to reach a top score of 64 while Haque contributed 56.
But when Benn broke the partnership by removing Iqbal the rampaging Caribbean boys pressed home the advantage to seal a lopsided victory in the 500th Test of their history. Bangladesh enjoyed a laborious but productive second session without losing a wicket as Iqbal and Haque frustrated the hosts.
Tamim’s departure, caught in the deep by Shannon Gabriel off Benn, signaled the start of a dramatic collapse. Bangladesh
conceded their last eight wickets for 34 runs, including losing four wickets for nine runs, as the lower order failed to produce any fight. They were wiped out by Benn who claimed five wickets for 72 runs while Taylor, who claimed three wickets, also completed his 100 wickets for the West Indies in the format.
Earlier West Indies, 208 for four overnight, declared on 269 for four, allowing Chanderpaul to register his 30th Test century and to keep the home side in control of the game in the process. The evergreen 40-year-old Chanderpaul’s unbeaten 101, together with 66 not out from Jermaine Blackwood helped to further strengthen the West Indies position.
Apart from surpassing Sir Don Bradman’s 29 centuries, Chanderpaul is only the second West Indian, after former captain Clive Lloyd against Australia in 1984, to score a Test century aged 40 or more. He is also only the second batsman to remain undefeated throughout a Test series having played a minimum of three innings and scored 200-plus runs. Jacques Kallis was the first to do so, against Zimbabwe in 2001.

Bangladesh collapsed to a 2-0 series defeat against West Indies, losing the second and final Test by 296 runs with a day to spare on Tuesday.
West Indies declared their second innings on 269 for four after Shivnarine Chanderpaul (101 not out) had completed his 30th Test century.
Jermaine Blackwood (66) had helped put on a 169 run fourth wicket partnership as West Indies set a near impossible target of 488.
The more realistic challenge for Bangladesh was to bat for as long as possible and hope the unpredictable weather in Saint Lucia at this time of year might help them.
After falling to 48-2, the third wicket pairing of Mominul Haque (56) and Tamim Iqbal (64) dug in and put on a 110 run partnership.
But when Tamim went, top-edging Sulieman Benn to Shannon Gabriel, Bangladesh quickly fell apart.
The tourists added 34 runs for their final seven wickets with Benn’s left-arm spin bringing him figures of 5-72 while seamer Jerome Taylor chipped in with 3-39.
It was far too easy for West Indies, as it was throughout a series which, while it may have boosted the confidence of some of the newer faces in the Caribbean, did little for Bangladesh as they struggle to establish themselves in Test cricket.
