Yeah good question. Who will be the T&T athletes competing in T&F? I already created a thread in the other forum for the non-track and field athletes

Title: TTOC firm on CAC fitness standard
Post by: Socapro on October 10, 2014, 09:54:18 PM
TTOC firm on CAC fitness standard (http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,201466.html)
Friday, October 10 2014 (T&T Newsday)

The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) will stage their final Beep Test at the Jean Pierre Complex in Mucurapo tomorrow from 9 am.

President of the TTOC, Brian Lewis, believes that transparency is an important aspect of the TTOC’s selection process and declared that their fitness standards, criteria and process will not be compromised.

The TTOC president noted that his organisation has communicated in writing and at meetings since last year about the required Beep Test standards and the dates for the Beep Test.

He explained that the TTOC communicated its policy and process to all National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) since last year and way in advance of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC).

Annette Knott, TTOC secretary general and Chef de Mission for the upcoming CAC Games said the TTOC will not tolerate or accept any attempt by NSOs to compromise or subvert its fitness and selection policy or process.

“None of the NSOs can say that they don’t know what is the process or standard. Once an event is under the TTOC we stand by our process,” she said.

The TTOC, Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago Elite Development Unit and Micheal Johnson Performance Centre have worked together since May this year to ensure that locally based athletes desirous of qualifying and participating at the Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and CAC games had the sport science based support, advice and programmes to address any shortcomings or deficiencies. The TTOC has to submit its team to CAC Games officials by Tuesday so tomorrow’s test is the final opportunity for athletes to meet the fitness standard.

With next month’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Veracruz, Mexico fast approaching, the Trinidad and Tobago will be conducting final fitness tests this weekend.

A release from TTOC president Brian Lewis yesterday said that the last beep test is scheduled for the Jean Pierre Complex from 9 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday).

The test is to establish the basic fitness levels of athletes likely to be competing in Mexico. Tomorrow’s exercise will include locally based athletes and those involved in team sports, but will exclude competitors taking part in timed sports such as track and field, swimming, cycling and triathlon.

TTOC secretary general Annette Knott, and chef de mission for the upcoming Games said the TTOC will not tolerate or accept attempts by National Sporting Organisations (NSOs)  to compromise or subvert its fitness and selection policy or process.

“None of the NSOs can say that they don’t know what is the process or standard. Once an event is under the TTOC we stand by our process,” she said.

The Olympic Committee has to submit its team to Games officials by Tuesday, so tomorrow’s test is the final opportunity for athletes and team sports to meet the fitness standard.

The release said the TTOC general council will convene today at Olympic House to “receive, consider and approve the recommendations of the executive committee in respect of the proposed CAC Games team.”

The TTOC release also said, “the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago’s Elite Development Unit and the Michael Johnson Performance Centre has worked together since May this year to ensure that in particular, team sports and locally based athletes desirous of qualifying and participating at the Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games and Central American and Caribbean( CAC) Games had the sport science based support, advice and programmes to address any shortcomings or deficiencies.”

I feel we're should have a full contingent of TF athletes for this games. This is a stepping stone for the big games. and in my opinion, even some of the marginal athletes should be given a chance. What allyuh think?

Games are being held at a bad time. Most of the top athletes will be in off season or just starting their winter training for preparation for indoors and then outdoor next year.

Bovell heads T&T squad to CAC Games (http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/Bovell-heads-TT--squad-to-CAC-Games-282509811.html)

TRINIDAD and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) is hopeful that its 197-member contingent for the November 14-30 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Veracruz, Mexico, can surpass the 34-medal haul achieved in Puerto Rico four years ago.

At that edition, Olympians George Bovell, Cleopatra Borel and Roger Daniel all won gold medals and with them spearheading the team, the TTOC is very optimistic that T&T can record their best showing ever at the CAC Games.

Bovell will be seeking to register a hattrick of 50-metre freestyle swimming titles having also copped gold in Cartagena, Colombia in 2006 while Borel will be looking to retain her crown by improving on her 19.76m effort four years ago.

And Daniel, who emerged king among the shooters in the 25m standard pistol after bagging silver in 2006, will be looking to maintain his level of consistency as he also seeks out another title.

Triple jumper Ayanna Alexander, who claimed bronze four years ago with a best effort of 13.64m, is another likely to be in the medal hunt though this time around she would probably be looking to earn one of a different colour.

Decorated table tennis player Dexter St Louis is also another with CAC Games experience under his belt, having captured men’s singles silver and bronze in the mixed doubles with Rheann Chung in 2006. He leads a team with a wealth of experience.

And T&T female Soca Warriors, winners of the 2014 Women’s Caribbean Cup, will also be flying the red, black and white in Mexico.

TTOC president Brian Lewis said the team is a well-balanced one, blended with youth and experience, with some 97 female athletes set to see action.

He said for logistical reasons the entire team did not travel together as some members departed on Tuesday, some yesterday with the last set due to leave on the November 24.

The team will be led by TTOC’s secretary Annette Knott, who will serve as the Chef de Mission.

Makeshift T&T football team for CAC Games (http://www.guardian.co.tt/sport/2014-11-15/makeshift-tt-football-team-cac-games)
Published: Saturday, November 15, 2014 (T&T Guardian)

Only one player who was in the squad on Saturday for the Women’s World Cup intercontinental playoff against Ecuador, has been included in a 20-member team, set to depart tomorrow for the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games women’s football tournament, which kicks off on Monday. Tenisha Palmer, a back-up goalkeeper for the senior women’s team leads a squad dominated by players otherwise from the national youth teams.

Unlike the men’s football tournament, which is limited to Under-21 players (with the exception of three players), the women’s tournament is open and has no age restrictions. However, due to the closeness in proximity to the second leg Fifa Women’s World Cup Concacaf/Comnebol playoff qualifier, the T&T team will comprise mostly national Under-20 and U-17 players. The team will be led in the interim by national Under-15 head coach Rajesh Latchoo, while Sharon O’Brien is the team manager. According to the T&T Football Association (TTFA), an arrangement was made between Latchoo and senior women’s team head coach Randy Waldrum to exclude the players (apart from Palmer), who will be in the squad for the crucial second-leg World Cup qualifier in Port-of Spain, on December 2.

Along with Latchoo and O’Brien, the travelling staff members are Joanne Curtis (assistant coach), Claire George (equipment manager), Glennon Foncette (goalkeeper coach) and Judy Ann Harewood (physiotherapist). The CAC Games is a qualifying event for the Olympic Games. From the women’s tournament, the top two teams will qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The “open” women’s team will kick off its account in Group A against Haiti, on Monday. Two days later, T&T will face Mexico and then finally Colombia on Friday. Albeit with a vastly different squad, T&T faced both Haiti and Mexico at the Concacaf Championships two weeks ago. T&T defeated Haiti 1-0 at the group stage, but lost to Mexico, 4-2, in added time in the third-place playoff.

Group B includes Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Nicaragua. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinal stage on November 25. The semifinal winners will advance to the final, while the losers meet in a third-place match, both on November 27.

The tournament is expected to be a difficult test for the T&T team as most other teams have reportedly opted to register nearly full-strength squads.

Women’s Squad: Nicolette Craig, Tenisha Palmer; Natasha St Louis, Patrice Campbell, Danielle Findley, Anastacia Prescott, Candace Edwards, Jonelle Warrick, Jo Marie Lewis, Iyesha Ollivierre, Taylor Mims, Chelcy Ralph, Summer Arjoon, Renee Mike, Patrice Vincent, Abishai Guy, Corel Carmichael, Sherine Scott, Kenna Charles, Raenah Campbell.

T&T hockey women flick off CAC gold defence (http://www.guardian.co.tt/sport/2014-11-15/tt-hockey-women-flick-cac-gold-defence)
Published: Saturday, November 15, 2014 (T&T Guardian)

This country’s senior women’s hockey team led by co-captains Alana Lewis and Patricia Wright-Alexis will begin their gold medal defence at the 22nd Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Veracruz Mexico against Bermuda today from 9 am (11 am TT time). Four years ago in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the T&T women coached then by David Francois trounced Mexico 4-0 in the final with a goal each from Lewis, Kristin Thompson, Stacey Siu Butt and Blair Wynne for their second gold to add to their previous triumph in 2002.

The local women also swept past Dominican Republic 6-1 in the semifinals having topped their four-team pool with wins over Barbados (3-0), Bermuda (4-0) and Guyana (5-1). This time around veteran Siu Butt is not in the team having retired, but ten other players who were part of that victorious squad in Lewis, Wright-Alexis, Thompson, Wynne, Oire Trotman, Sekayi Liburd, Brittney Hingh, Krizia Layne, goalkeeper Petal Derry and Avion Ashton, back from injury have made the trip to Veracruz with coach Anthony Marcano.

The 25-year-old Ashton was a member of the T&T team which placed tenth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, but then missed the Second International Hockey Federation (FIH) World League First Round qualifying tournament in Kingston, Jamaica where the “Calypso Stickwomen” topped its group with wins over Puerto Rico (5-1), Dominican Republic (3-1), Jamaica (2-0) and Barbados (2-0) due to injury last month. But the long-serving national player has since fully recovered from her injuries and is the only addition to the team while clubmates, Zene Henry and Keima Gardiner as well as goalkeeper Arresia Sandy of Paradise have been dropped, as the tournament only allows for 16-member teams as compared to 18 at the FIH tournaments.
Following today’s match, T&T will also face Guyana on Monday and Dominican Republic on Wednesday to end Pool B play while Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico and Barbados are in Pool A.

At the El Lecero Police Academy, T&T shooters failed to qualify for the final in the Men’s Individual 50m rifle shooting competition.

And in table tennis, the T&T women’s team lost one tie before winning another.

Colombia defeated them 3-1 with Rhean Chung being the only success, defeating Angie Umbacia in straight sets (11-9,11-8,11-8). They then galloped over Jamaica for a 3-0 shut out in their second Group 2 encounter.

TRINIDAD and Tobago were beaten in straight sets when the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games Women’s Volleyball Tournament served off Saturday in Mexico.

In the final of four matches, the six-time Caribbean champions went under 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 against the Mexicans, who had also prevailed in straight sets when the two teams clashed in Trinidad in June for the 24th and final place in World Championships —contested in Italy from late September until last month.

Andrea Rangel and Seomara Sainz were the leading scorers with 12 points each, three more than T&T’s main contributor Channon Thompson, the Most Valuable Player when her team was crowned Caribbean champions for the fifth straight time in August.

T&T had 19 kills, but their opponents doubled that figure and were also completely dominant (6-1) in service winners in the 68-minute Group B encounter.

T&T tackled Puerto Rico yesterday and will conclude their campaign in the round-robin phase at 4 p.m. today against Costa Rica.

This country’s women defeated the Costa Ricans in straight sets during the World Championships playoff tournament four months ago, but may be the underdogs this time after the Costa Ricans stunned Puerto Rico 25-22, 13-25, 25-21, 12-25, 15-11 in the second match of this tournament on Saturday night.

Cuba cruised past Colombia 25-13, 25-17, 25-20 in the first, and in the other Group A encounter, Dominican Republic overwhelmed Venezuela 25-6, 25-15, 25-16.

The group winners will advance directly into Wednesday night’s semifinals, while the runners-up and third-placed teams will contest quarterfinals the night before.

The bronze medal match is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Thursday and the champions will be crowned two hours after.

The Trinidad and Tobago men’s hockey team imitated their female counterparts when they opened their Central American and Caribbean Games campaign with a narrow 4-3 win over the Dominican Republic (DR) at the High Performance Centre in Veracruz, Mexico yesterday.

T&T were first on the scoreboard when Tariq Marcano scored in the third minute, but a double strike by Jose Lopez in the sixth and eight minutes saw their opponents take the lead. Marcano (26th) and Grant Nicholas (28th) pulled T&T back in front to go into the halftime interval leading 3-2.

In the game’s second session, Francisco Garcia would pull the DR level at 3-3 in the 41st minute, however, Marcano would get his hattrick in the 66th minute to seal the victory for T&T.

Trinidad and Tobago’s women’s football team will face off with Haiti in their opening match of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games at the Estadio Unidad Deportiva Hugo Sanchez in Mexico from 10am today.

The T&T team, led by head coach Rajeezh Latchoo, includes only one member of the current senior women’s team, second choice goalkeeper Teneisha Palmer. The competition is considered to be an Under-21 age group competition, with up to three players born before January 1, 1993 being allowed in the squad.

T&T will meet Mexico in their second Group A match on Wednesday and will close off the group phase against Colombia two days later.

Group B consists of Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Nicaragua. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals which are carded for November 25th with the Final slated for November 27th.

“It’s a really good opportunity for our younger players to get the exposure at this tournament. At the moment the Senior Team has the return World Cup qualifier to prepare for and so we felt it would be wise to bring some of the other players to this tournament,” Latchoo told TTFA Media.

“We have the other competitions to prepare for like future youth tournaments as well as the Olympic qualifiers. I think the team now has some very capable players and they will definitely gain from the experience of playing against teams like Mexico, Haiti and Colombia,” he added.

Some of the players selected with past senior team experience include JoMarie Lewis, Natasha St Louis, Candace Edwards, Anastascia Prescott, Taylor Mims, Jonelle Warrick and Patrice Vincent.

The team will hope to improve today after finishing 22nd among the 24 teams at the World Cup. T&T clocked 45.105 seconds, finishing ahead of Mexico (45.531) and India (48.932), and failed to advance past the qualifying round.

A top effort is also expected from Maharajh in the 4km individual pursuit, as the national record holder in the event.

Looking forward to see how the senior athletes Lucas, Alexander and Borel perform

TF will be this week. The games end this weekend. The women lost the bronze medal game to Mexico 2-1. So now TT has Mex and DR now to contend with in th future. The hockey fraternity needs to step up and start some grassroots program to increase the talent pool. The hockey stadium is in Taca, and apart from SAGS and UWI, there are not even a hockey club east of the Dry River that features prominently in TT hockey. prove me wrong.

Borel needs to have a talk with a lot of our national senior and junior athletes.

She exemplifies professionalism and consistency, and has been on the podium more often than not at regional and higher competitions. Even when she hasn't medalled (barring injuries) she's performed near her best time and time again. That's a lot more than can be said about the effort that some other athletes put out when they put on the national uniform.

Congratulations on another boss performance!!

Shot putter Cleopatra Borel made a successful defence of her women’s title at the 22nd Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mexico, yesterday to give T&T its second gold medal at the Games.

Golden in 2010 in Puerto Rico, 35-year-old Borel was never in trouble of securing the gold medal after her first throw of 17.84 placed her at the top of the field. This was followed by throws of 18.07, 18.38, 18.53 and 18.99 before fouling her final effort.

She joins swimmer George Bovell who won a third straight gold in the men’s 50m freestyle final last week.

T&T’s other medals to date came via the national men’s hockey team (silver), Bovell (swimming), Dorian Alexander (taekwondo), Curtis Humphreys/ Dexter St Louis (table tennis), Roger Daniel (shooting), Christopher George (judo), Kwesi Browne (cycling) and boxer Michael Alexander.

Second placed Cuban Yaniuvis Lopez was also consistent with throws of 17.70, 17.49, 17.65, 17.87 and 17.88 while bronze medallist Sandra Milena Lemos of Colombia, had two successful attempts, first an effort of 16.98 and 17.50 to earn her medal as she fouled on her next four attempts.

In the men’s 200m final, 26-year-old Kyle Greaux was fifth in 20.95, behind the quartet of Cubans Roberto Skyers (20.47) and Reynier Mena (20.54) and Mexico’s Jose Carlos Herrera (20.63) while Honduran Rolando Cruz Palacios was fourth in 20.76.

In Wednesday’s semifinals, Greaux was third in 20.83.

T&T’s other entrant Emmanuel Callender completed a disastrous double after he was disqualified from heat two, to follow up failing to reach the men’s 100m final while US-based Mikel Thomas advanced to the men’s 110m hurdles final carded for 12.55 pm today, when he third in his semifinal (14.08), behind Cuban Yordan Luis Ofarrill (13.63) and US Virgin Islands’ Eddie Lovett (13.82).

Ayanna Alexander, a bronze medallist at this year’s Commonwealth Games, was eighth in the long jump with a longest leap of 12.94 metres and in the men’s 1,500m, Jamaal James was ninth in 4:00.58 minutes, well adrift of Cuban Andy Gonzalez (3:45.52).
