W Connection to face European boosted Suriname XI.
W Connection Press Release.
W Connection FC will play an European boosted Suriname team in two Exhibition matches on Boxing Day and December 28th at the Andre Kamperveen Stadion, Parimaribo.
In association with FIFA, the Surinamese Voetbal Bond (SVB) has begun a campaign called “Project Suriname” with the aim of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
The SVB has submitted a proposal to their Government that will be voted on next year, seeking to allow dual nationality to the many Suriname born or Suriname heritage professional footballers in the Netherlands and Europe, who couldn't make the grade for the Netherlands senior team – but would be willing to represent the South American nation.
The project is being spearheaded by former team manager of Ajax and current Dutch sports journalist, author and columnist, David Endt, while former Suriname born Ajax player Dean Gorre will coach the team this fixture.
Before the final squad of 20 was picked, which includes 14 from Europe and former W Connection striker Stefano Rijssel, 100 letters were sent out to players with Suriname heritage and “De Natio” received 85 positive responses.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity and endorsement of W Connection to be invited by Suriname for these matches as they prepare for the 2018 World Cup”, said W Connection President David John-Williams.
“With them bringing back all this foreign talent, if all goes well it could certainly be a huge from a Caribbean football standpoint. It also gives us an opportunity to keep our players in shape and match ready during the Pro League Christmas break.”

Applause! At least there is a plan better than no plan at all- 2018 WC qualifications is talked about compared to the govt BS we experiencing in trying to pay players coaches and support our teams.
Where is our proactive planning for WC 2018? Oh yeah we go default to the last minute friendlies and jet in all the star boys because the local talent eh physical or mentally tough- what is the plan to rectify our weakness? Is like JA boat get the tough ones and what get drop off here was at the bottom!
Wha happen ? What kinda laid back mentality we have that precludes us from planning ? Lol

a lot of friends and family will come back and the team will be one to contend with in the future... :beermug:

Here in TnT we do not have a program of continuity for professional transition from youth to senior level to develop players. If Suriname and French Guiana instill an effective program to develop players, then together with this new law to bring back foreign based players they will be a threat to any team in the CFU.
No worries for me, our players here at home will have no choice to take CFU football tournaments more seriously and this should make us more prepared for better teams in CONCACAF.

Guyana is not a threat to any of the stronger teams in CONCACAF with or without their foreign born players. I say leave Guayana in CONCACAF as we need teams like them to beat-up on and get lots of goal scoring practice on. ;)

The players cut from the initial list were: Kevin Wattamaleo, Torino Hunte, Calvin Mac-Intosch, Giovanni Hiwat, Joey Groenbast, Jermano Lo Fo Sang and Lorenzo Pique. Jorzolino Falkenstein withdrew due to injury while Evander Sno declined in the last minute due to being currently negotiating his contract.
