Police FC targets Super League qualification.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Northern Football Association Premier Division champions, Police Fc will be hoping to clinch one of three promotion spots available from the T&T Football Association Champion of Champions qualifiers to next season’s National Super League when it faces Sidey’s FC today.

However, the Lawmen will enter the match at Speyside Recreation Ground from 6pm, in not so much of a confident mood having suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to visiting Southern Football Association Premier Division champions, Marabella Family Crisis Centre, at their St James Police Barracks Training Ground, Long Circular Road, St James, on Saturday.

This after Police won its first two matches, 3-0 over Matura Re-United, the Eastern Counties Football Union champions, and 2-1 and still leads with six points, two more than Matura Reunited and Central Football Association kings, Cunupia FC.

Sidey’s FC the Tobago Football Association Premier winners will be making their tournament bow as their previous matches against Malta Carib Alcons (March 29), Marabella Family CC (April 1) and Cunupia FC (April 4) were all rescheduled to the unavailability of flights due to the busy Easter weekend travelling between both islands.

Up at Matura Recreation Ground, two teams coming off similar 5-1 victories, in Matura Reunited and Marabella Family CC lock horns from 4pm as well.

Reunited got a brace from Irvin Reyes in the lopsided win while Keryn Vincent, Sherwin Charles and Kerwin Matthews added one each, but Marabella was also in scintillating form against Police led by a double from Kevin Moodie and one each from Javed Mohammed, Nathan Homer and Kerville Jeremiah.

And in the day’s other contest, Alcons is at home to Cunupia FC, joint second with four points, but from only two matches, at the Maracas Recreation Ground, St Joseph.

At the end of the six-team round-robin series, the top three clubs will gain promotion to the 2015/2016 National Super League.

Matura Reunited takes final National Super League spot.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Matura Reunited became the third and final team to secure a spot in next season’s TTFA National Super League, following a default win over no-show Sidey’s FC in its closing rescheduled fixture.

Matura, which won the Eastern Counties Football Union league competition for the past two years, made better of its qualifying effort last year, albeit with a close-shave finish.

Reunited sealed the easy three-points after Sidey’s failed to appear for the fixture, which was rescheduled twice before. Cunupia FC helped their cause. Needing a win by a wide margin over Sidey’s to leapfrog Matura Reunited, Cunupia squandered a two-goal first half lead in a subsequent rescheduled fixture that ended 2-2.

The competition dragged on until last week given a number of issues forcing the postponement and rescheduling of matches. In the end, Marabella and Police FC finished first and second, respectively, with ten points each and separated on goal-difference.

Matura, albeit with some help, finally qualified for the Super League. Last year, the same team finished last in the Champions of Champions qualifiers.

Super League action kicks off June 28.
By Ian Prescott (Express).

Action in the semi-professional National Super League football competition is set to kick off on June 28 and run until December 13.

And despite not having a major sponsor, Neville Ferguson, the National Super League Commissioner, said they expect to have a 2013-2014 award ceremony soon and that the prize structure will be maintained at the 2012-2013 level when All Sport Promotion ran the competition.

Last season, All Sport gave the Super League back to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association.

In 2012, champions Guaya United won $200,000, runners-up Club Sando claimed $100,000, while third-placed Malabar won $75,000 and $25,000 went to the fourth-placed 1976 FC Phoenix. Club Sando were 2013-2014 champions.

“We are planning an awards function which is coming up very soon,” Ferguson said.

“The prize structure will be the same as 2012-2013. The TTFA is making those sort of arrangements.

This season, four Tobago teams are among the 16 that will contest the 2015 competition, including newcomers Marabella Family Crisis (South), Police FC (North) and Matura Re-United (North East Counties).

Demoted from the Super League back to the third-tier Association football were Las Lomas United, Coosal Las Lomas and Joe Public, which dropped out of last season’s competition.

Last season, the Super league was plagued by postponement of several matches involving team from the sister isle due to inter-island transport. Neville Ferguson, the National Super League Commission, said the Super League are planning to directly approach Caribbean Airlines to sort out scheduling problems and also to build the fixtures around important activities in the sister isle.

We asking them to let us know when are the major festivals or activities in Tobago, that will making going across to Tobago or coming here difficult,” he said. “We may very well have to schedule matches around their festival.”

“The structure will be the same as last year,” Ferguson said.

“In the first phase, everybody will play each other once, and then it (the competition) will be divided into two groups, Group A (title challengers) and Group B (relegation fight).

More changes to Super League.
T&T Express Reports.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has enlisted All Sport Promotions to handle league operations for the National Super League competition and sponsorship development for the local governing body.

Three new leagues will be introduced as part of the collaboration that will incorporate a new division of the National Super League.

A 15-team Premiership Division of the Super League will be joined by a 12-team Championship Division to establish a promotion/relegation system.

The Premiership Division is set for its kickoff on July 18 while the Championship Division will make its debut on August 8.

In an effort to further establish stronger youth competitions, the TTFA and All Sport Promotions have teamed up with Republic Bank to bring national youth league competition back to Trinidad and Tobago.

The Republic Bank National Youth League will feature Under-13, Under-15 divisions for boys and Under-17 girls division.

According to TTFA President Raymond Tim Kee, “this collaboration with All Sport Promotions will establish our domestic competitions on both the senior and youth levels in an efficient manner that will enable our footballers to develop to the best of their abilities”.

President Tim Kee further added that “with All Sport Promotions operating our leagues and developing sponsorships, the TTFA can better serve the football family and have an excellent opportunity to invest more of its limited resources into youth and women's football.“

WASA commanding in Super League opener.
T&T Express Reports.

WASA FC made a strong start to the new National Super League (NASL) season when they routed FC Santa Rosa 6-1 on Sunday at their ground on Farm Road, St Joseph.

Kerron Clarke netted a hat-trick to help them establish an unassailable lead to start their campaign with an emphatic win.

WASA were the architects of a real washout against the Santa Rosa boys. Dorian Daniel opened the floodgates as early as the fourth minute, while Clarke made the result safe. Gary Glasgow and Glen Walker rounded out the caning in the 65th and 86th minutes respectively. Nicholas Armstrong scored the lone item for Santa Rosa.

The other teams in the 15-team competition were also in action, with the exception of Club Sando, who had a bye. NCLB La Horquetta won 2-0 against Real Maracas, after Frederick Commissiong and Kern Roberts scored in each half to help them to the win.

Petrotrin Palo Seco edged out Defence Force FC 2-1 after having to wrestle for the lead after Corey Cyrus' strike in the 35th minute was cancelled out by Dexter Thornhill's equalising effort in the 61st.

Jason Gross made the result sure when he scored in the 68th minute.

Guaya Untied FC were in no mood for charity, as they whipped Marabella Family Crisis Centre 4-2 with goals coming from Earlon Thomas (19th and 90th), Jody Allsop (28th) and Ryan Stewart (69th). Kerlan Khan and Juma Clarence got on the scoresheet for the Marabella team.

Police FC played out a 2-2 draw with Siparia Spurs, after a topsy-turvy first 20 minutes which saw the Spurs race into the lead during a five-minute spell.

Andre Quashie opened the scoring in the 13th minute for the Spurs, however the lawmen restored parity a minute later through Atiba Peters. Andy London sent the Spurs into the lead in the 19th minute, and it was not until early in the second half that Jason Boodram levelled things once more for both teams to share the spoils.

In Tobago, Bethel United edged Stokely Vale 1-0, with Vernel Wilson netting the lone item.

There was a 0-0 stalemate however, as 1976 FC Phoenix and Matura Re United could not break the deadlock.

Petrotrin still top Super League
T&T Express Reports.

Petrotrin Palo Seco maintained their unbeaten streak in the National Super League Sunday as they held home team NLCB La Horquetta to a 1-1 draw. The result sees them maintain their position at the top of the standings, while 1976 FC Phoenix are hot on their heels, trailing only by goal difference.

The 2015 Super League action continued across the country, and while Petrotrin may be setting the early pace, Santa Rosa were the talking point of the day. The Arima-based team were routed 6-1 and 6-2 in their opening two fixtures, but enough was enough it seemed, as they stormed to a 5-0 romp of their own, taking out their frustration on Siparia Spurs.

Jomoul Francis found the back of the net twice in the 28th and 57th minutes, while Nicholas Armstrong also scored a double on the stroke of half-time and six minutes after the break. Rashard Griffith rounded off the scoring in the 83rd minute to give Santa Rosa their first win in the competition.

Guaya United also were in a scoring mood, as they put four past WASA FC who seem to be still shaken from their 1-0 upset at the hands of Police FC in the prior round. This time around, the WASA boys were given no quarter in their first away fixture of the season, and they did themselves no favours when they scored an own goal in the 10th minute. A Ryan Stewart brace (45th and 54th) and a Carlon Hughes item in stoppage-time sealed an embarassing defeat for a WASA Team that started off the season impressively.

Marabella Family Crisis Centre, T&T Defence Force and Phoenix all celebrated narrow one-goal victories. The Crisis Centre beat Matura Re United 2-1 thanks to an own goal, and a Juma Clarence item in the 32nd minute. Irvin Reyes pulled one back for Matura, but it wasn't enough for them to avoid defeat. Josimar Belgrave, and Axcel George scored to lead the Defence Force and Phoenix to respectively to 1-0 wins Police FC and Bethel United. Belgrave's effort was sweeter, considering they not only won the "battle of the servicemen", but move up to third; a position Police occupied last week.

Petrotrin's draw wasn't the day's most spectacular result, but it helped them to maintain their early lead in the standings. They went behind in the 50th minute to La Horquetta's Anslem Jackson, however they equalised through Corey Cyrus seven minutes later. The score remained the same until the final whistle.

Tomorrow will be the first matchday for the season that will kick off on a Thursday. Petrotrin will hope to extend their lead tomorrow when they face Real Maracas. Phoenix will be on a bye.

Tomorrow's Matches:

Real Maracas FC v Petrotrin Palo Seco - Maracas Recreation Ground 4 p.m.

Defence Force win big in Super League.
T&T Express Reports.

A five-goal haul from the Defence Force FC was enough to send them to the top of the National Super League standings, as they thrashed NLCB La Horquetta 5-2 at the Youth Camp Grounds in Macqueripe. The Super League continued on Sunday with the soldiers putting in the standout performance of the round.

Micheal Edwards netted in the 13th, 45th and 87th minute to not only bag his hat-trick, but to make deadly sure that the Defence Force would seal the points. Josimar Belgrave scored the other two in the 22nd and 90th minutes to round off their romp. The win saw them secure first spot with 12 points.

The other big movers in the table were Police FC, who recorded another win to move up to second in the table. Jason Boodram, Kareem Perry and Kemrol Purcell all found the back of the net to give the lawmen a three-goal cushion over Bethel United. Ex-Royalian Carron Williams netted the consolation for the Tobago-based team in the 90th minute.

Club Sando Moruga, Stokely Vale and Real Maracas did themselves no favours failing to get maxmum points, as their draws see them sitting in 12th, 14th and 15th respectively. Club Sando drew with Guaya United FC 1-1, with Nigel John's 30th-minute strike was cancelled out by Beville Joseph 56th-minute equaliser. Real Maracas' 2-2 draw sees them in last place with a game in hand. Stokely Vale sit right above Maracas after having drawn 1-1 with Marabella Family Crisis Centre, who benefitted from the result as it pushed them up to third place.

WASA FC won their first match since the opening matchday, after they defeated Petrotrin Palo Seco 2-0 with goals from Akil Harley in the 29th minute and Keron Clarke in the 90th. FC Santa Rosa squandered a 2-0 lead after Rashard Griffith's early brace in the 7th and 30th minutes were eventually cancelled out and overtaken by Christopher Morgtan and Lejandro Williams, who scored a quickfire brace in two minutes shortly after the half-time break.

Super League leaders Defence Force tackle Bethel United
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian)

New leaders of the National Super League Premier Division, Defence Force will have its stay at the top of the 15-team table tested when they travel to Tobago for a tricky encounter with Bethel United at Mt Gomery Ground, tomorrow from 5 pm.

Coming off a 5-2 thrashing of La Horquetta led by a Michael Edwards, hat-trick, Defence Force goes into the match with 12 points from five matches, two more than the quartet of Police FC, Marabella Family Crisis Centre, 1976 FC Phoenix and Petrotrin Palo Seco.

However, Petrotrin Palo Seco is on a bye today while the clash between Police FC and Real Maracas has been rescheduled, meaning only Marabella Family and Phoenix who clash at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 4 pm, will have a chance of going top of the standings, should Defence Force falter and either team come out on top in their meeting.

Elsewhere, defending champions Club Sando Moruga will be seeking a first win of the season when it plays away to WASA FC at WASA Ground, St Joseph while Guaya United and Stokely Vale clash at Guaya Recreation Ground, both from 4 pm.

And in the two other matches, Siparia Spurs host Matura Reunited at Petrotrin Ground, Fyzabad and La Horquetta entertains FC Santa Rosa at UTT Ground, Centeno.

Defence Force still top of Super League.
T&T Express Reports.

Tevin Balfor's lone goal in the 76th minute ensured that Defence Force FC not only maintained their lead in the National Super League, but extended it to four points after they beat Bethel United at Montgomery Recreation Ground on Sunday.

The soldiers were coming into the fixture with a two-point lead over Police FC, which they doubled to four points after the final whistle. The narrow 1-0 win gives them 15 points, after winning five of their six matches so far. Their only defeat came on the opening weekend when they were edged 2-1 by Petrotrin Palo Seco a month ago.

Guaya United were the biggest winners on the field Sunday, as they scored four of the six goals in their encounter with Stokely Vale. Guaya raced to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes after Jody Alsop and an own goal put them in pole position for the win. Shortly after the break, Carlon Hughes made it 3-0. Travis Winchester gave Stokely Vale a glimmer of hope, scoring their first goal in the 60th minute.

There would be no miracle comeback however, as seven minutes later, Ryan Stewart scored Guaya's fourth goal. Leshawn Robert's consolation item in the 80th came too little too late to be significant as Guaya ran out 4-2 winners.

Siparia Spurs edged Matura Re United 3-2 with Jesse Edwards scoring a double, and Daniel Diaz scoring the third to make the result certain.

Matura had taken a 2-1 lead in the first half when Irvin Reyes scored a quick brace of his own in the 35th and 37th minutes, however they were unable to hold on to their advantage as Diaz equalised in the 62nd minute, and Edwards scored the winner four minutes from time.

WASA FC won 2-0 at home when they took on Club Sando Moruga with goals from Fabian Garcia and Daniel Diaz, but the win only moved them up one place to sixth in the table.

Jean-Paul Aqui-Blanc scored as early as the second minute to put Santa Rosa in front against NCLB La Horquetta. La Horquetta needed a favour to come away with a point however, as an own goal in the 81st minute against FC Santa Rosa came to their aid.

Marabella Crisis Centre drew 0-0 with 1976 FC Phoenix, however the result was good enough to move both teams up a place, as the match between Real Maracas FC and Police FC had to be rescheduled. Marabella now sit in second in the overall standings while Phoenix are third.

Marabella Family Crisis Centre 0-0 1976 FC Phoenix

Bruno snatches late winner for Army.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Keron Bruno was the toast of his Defence Force team-mates as he netted with virtually the last kick of the match to earn his team a thrilling 3-2 win over defending champions Club Sando Moruga when matches in the National Super League Premier Division continued on Sunday.

Earlier on, visitors Defence Force took the lead in the seventh minute through inform Josimar Belgrave, however Nigel John hit back for the host at the Grand Chemin Recreation Grounds, Moruga, only for Belgrave to score his second of the match in the 29th for a 2-1 half-time lead.

Six minutes after the restart, Tareek Joseph drew Club Sando Moruga level again, and the match seemed headed for a draw until Bruno struck in the final minute to secure Defence Force a seventh win from eight matches to lead the 15-team table with 21 points, five more than a surging Guaya United which came from behind to beat Real Maracas 2-1 at the Maracas Recreation Ground, St Joseph.

Ricardo Bennett handed Real Maracas a ninth 1-0 lead which his team held until it conceded an own goal in the 72nd followed by an Andre Alfred winner for Guaya, five minutes later. Down at Petrotrin Ground, Fyzabad, Jesse Edwards and Andy London both scored braces to lead Siparia Spurs past 1976 FC Phoenix, 5-3.

Phoenix was the one to open the scoring through Onasi Forde in the 32nd, but then saw Edwards (37th, 39th) and London (45th) hit back for Spurs to lead 3-1 at the half to the delight of their supporters. On the resumption, Phoenix took the match to the host and got goals from Forde (53rd), his second and Andel Brown (65th) to tie up the score at 3-3, however Spurs stepped up another gear and regained the lead within two minutes thanks to a second item from London, while Daniel Garcia added a fifth strike in the 88th minute to seal all three points.

With the win, Spurs joined Phoenix on 14 points, but the latter has a match in hand while idle Police FC, WASA FC and Petrotrin Palo Seco are next, all with 13 points. Anybody following this TTFA run league. I really asking the homies. The super league appears to be more community based league. They play a true home and away schedule. So all the people who are longing for community teams, why are they not supporting these teams? I also want to clarify something here with Club Sando. Are they a Moruga based team playing in San Fernando? I am assuming that the pro team will be playing in Skinner Park, while the super league team play in Moruga? Anyone ? Flex, Tallman?

They do seem to attract nice local crowds when they play on community crowds. Point Fortin was a good example, but also Guaya, Real Maracas and the Tobago clubs get nice crowds. But I think the games are free, so it may change if there is a charge.

Not sure Deeks, I'll see if I can find out more,,, the Super League under All Sports are definitely run better than the Pro League.

They are more organised to their fixtures and the time frame (not in line with Europe that is affecting the Pro League), however, they can surely improve on detailed match reports.

All leagues in T&T should start the same time, this is why all heads much come together and work together.

Imagine, if the FA Cup starts tomorrow, chances are a Super League team could win because they are already 7 games into their season.

Point Fortin lost some of their support because they went Pro. Expect the same for Club Sando, unless they get Skinner park.

Pro League and Super League games should be made double headers.

Maybe All Sport might make Super League and Championship Games double headers?

I like the new-look format - as they said in their press conference if they can encourage more teams to offer professional contracts that can only be a good thing for the local game. Would be interested to know which 2 teams didn't meet the league requirements - gonna guess that's Sidey's and Malta Caribs

Some good ideas, but Skeene head is to big to work together with the SL or vise versa?

I’m not sure where Club Sando’s home games will be, but over the last few years in the Super League, most of their home games were played at Guaracara Park. Club Sando Moruga play their home games at Grand Chemin Recreation Ground in Moruga.

Matura striker Reyes living his dream
By STEPHON NICHOLAS (NEWSDAY).

Matura Re United striker, Irvin Reyes, says he is living his dream playing in the CNG National Super League 2015/2016 edition. Reyes, 31-year-old, has found the back of the net six times in five games this season which has seen his club at mid-table after seven games.

The nippy forward netted a hattrick on the weekend against NLCB La Horquetta in a 5-3 victory and beamed, “yeah, I enjoyed that performance. The game wasn’t that hard but it was nice.” Hailing from Boys Town, Reyes is no stranger to the Super League with previous stints with Biche United and the now defunct Economy Strikers. He noted however that playing for Matura Re United is unlike any experience he had before.

“The Super League is very competitive and challenging.

I’ve played for close to four years with Matura and the bonding is different (from other teams).

The meshing of the players and (relationship between) players and management is good,” he explained.

Training three times a week, Reyes believes Matura can continue their climb up the standings and finish high up the table.

And with a successful season, Reyes believes he can return to the Pro League where he once competed with North East Stars during their victorious 2004 campaign.

“I do think about it (playing in the Pro League). Right now once we keep winning we will get that exposure and people will see us,” he said.

Reyes, who also represents his home team Boys Town Strikers, thanked his community for always giving him that extra motivation to perform.

“It feels good knowing your community has your whole back and coming out and support.

They’re always there watching your game,” he added.

A fan of Barcelona and global superstar Lionel Messi, Reyes says he tries to copy the talented Argentine and revealed what makes him a good striker.

“My speed, technique in running and ability to score.

“Sometimes the team depends on you to come up with a magical moment or something special and I enjoy doing that,” he declared..

UTT football team back in Super League
T&T Newsday Reports.

THE UNIVERSITY of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) football team is back competing in the CNG National Super League, under the guidance of former national captain Clayton “JB” Morris.

The return proved to be an exciting one that ended in a two-all draw with Petit Valley United last week under the lights of the Northern Recreation Ground in Diego Martin.

The university men found themselves trailing 0-2 and battled back to share the points thanks to goals from Nyron Jones and Ricaldo Castellano.

Morris, who will always be remembered as the captain of the “Strike Squad” that came within one point of qualifying for the 1990 World Cup, explained that the team had just recently started training under him.

“About three weeks ago we completed screenings of footballers in the UTT Academy of Sport Scholarship programme,” he said.

“I am proud of how the guys have adapted, handled the pressure and showed fighting spirit. Like most coaches, our intention is to win the League, but we are definitely aiming for a top three finish.” Director of UTT ’s Academy of Sport, Daren Ganga was at the venue to support his team and offer a brief motivational half-time talk.

The former Test cricketer gave specifics of the university’s football scholarship programme. “UTT offers a sound sport and academic programme in various sporting disciplines. Our football programme allows players an opportunity to not only gain educational qualifications, but train at the highest semi-professional level.

“Not to be biased, but we offer a bit more than Pro League, Super League and even foreign university teams.

Our footballers have their own top-class training field, excellent gym facilities, qualified coaches, trainers, physiotherapists and administrators. Additionally, accommodation, transport, meals and equipment such as football boots and uniforms are provided.” The UTT Academy programme is arguably one of the better options for players coming out of the Secondary Schools League.

Ganga said that from providing an opportunity to play while furthering their education, a significant amount of leeway is offorded the students.

“Since we are playing in the CNG National Super League, our model is even more conducive for providing selectors with future national Under-20 and Under-23 players,” he explained.

“UTT ’s student/ athlete contract even allows footballers to attend trials, should a professional club come knocking. So who knows, when the League ends in December, a few players may be able to finish the season with a Pro League team, on loan; provided their studies are not hampered.”

Allsop’s double pushes Guaya past Santa Rosa.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Jody Allsop scored a second-half brace as Guaya United came from behind to defeat FC Santa Rosa 2-1 to maintain a one point lead at the top of the CNG National Super League Premier Division on Sunday.

After a 0-0 first-half at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Santa Rosa which sits in the bottom-half of the 15-team table took a surprise lead through Keston Henry in the 57th minute.

However, Allsop came to his team’s rescue, first getting the equaliser in the 75th minute and then the winner three minutes from full-time to snatch all three points, carrying their points 25 points from 11 matches, one more than Defence Force, 4-0 winners over Siparia Spurs at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Training Field, Mucurapo.

The star of the afternoon for the "Teteron Boys" was Michael Edwrads with a hat trick in the 23rd, 58th and 72nd minute while Josimar Belgrave added the fourth item in the 87th.

Over at the Canaan Ground, Bon Accord, Tobago, Stefano Wright’s 40th minute strike was enough to give 1976 FC Phoenix a 1-0 win over Petrotrin Palo Seco and third with 20 points, three more than Police FC and idle WASA, while Marabella Family Crisis Centre and Siparia Spurs are next with 16 points each.

At the St James Police Barracks Training Ground, Marcus Ashton, Colin Williams, Keon Figaro and former national captain Trent Noel were all on target for Police in its 4-0 thrashing of Matura ReUnited  while Marabella Family and La Horquetta S.A played to an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella

Defence Force reclaim lead in Super League.
T&T Express Reports.

Defence Force snatched the CNG National Super League lead from Guaya United as the two teams met in a top-of-the-table clash in the competition yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium training field, with the soldiers winning 4-2 to go back to the top of the standings.

The new leaders, who weeks ago had relinquished their early lead in the league when Marabella Family Crisis Centre beat them 3-2 at the Macqueripe Youth Camp at the start of the month, made sure they took full advantage of meeting their rivals at the top, surpassing their one-point lead.

Michael Edwards went into the lead after just eight minutes, and Christopher Durity would increase the advantage in the 18th and 45th minutes. Guaya's Carlon Hughes attempted to give the away team some hope when he scored in the 51st, however Josimar Belgrave's 70th minute effort was enough for the soldiers to coast to the win despite conceding a second goal near the end.

FC Phoenix remain in third despite losing to Club Sando Moruga 3-1 at the Grand Chemin Recreation Ground. Dareem Ramkhalawan, Aaron Julien and Trevon Mitchell were on the scoresheet for the home team, while Dave Grimshaw scored the lone goal for Phoenix in the losing effort.

Any homies connected to these teams. No comments, nothing at all!!!!!

I went to the Army vs Guaya game...

Army was good especially Josimar Belgrave.

I saw Collin Samuel playing for Guaya, he looked rusty.

Jody Allsop looked good for Guaya.

I think both teams got red cards.

These games should be double headers with Pro League games.

It would be much better viewed.

QPCC earns Pro League promotion.
T&T Guardian Reports.

...as Edinburgh survives relegation

Benedict Barrett continued his rich run of form to help earn Queen Park (QPCC) promotion into the Digicel Pro League next season, after it got past T&T Prison Services FC 3-1 in the CNG Super League Championship Division final round decider on Monday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo`.

Going into the contest one point behind T&T Prison Services, Queen’s Park knew they had to get full points to book a place in the Pro League next season. Barrett’s 54th minute goal gave Queen’s Park a 3-0 lead early in the second half, before Questelle Walters scored a consolation item for Prisons in the 85th minute.

In the first half Shabaka Mahluli opened the scoring for Queen’s Park in the 20th minute, before Jason Devenish got on the scoresheet one minute before the halftime whistle. Queen’s Park also won $120,000 for the top prize.

The match between the two team was scheduled to be played on December 15 but a power outage in Port-of-Spain shortly before kick off forced the officials to postpone the match.

Edinburgh survived relegation with a 2-1 win over Petit Valley United FC. Calvi Grazette broke the deadlock on the stroke of halftime to give Edinburgh a 1-0 lead at the break.

There was late drama in the match as two goals were scored in the last four minutes. Keston Bibby-Cummings equalized for Petit Valley, before David Lendor rescued Edinburgh with a goal one minute before full time.

Meanwhile, Cunupia’s Stevon Stoute and UTT’s Jamal Creighton shared the scoring title, both finishing on 22 goals.

Mikheil Peters of Barrackpore United was on behind them on 21 goals, a fine performance, given that Barrackpore finished fourth from the bottom.

Hector Sam, the former national striker, had the fourth-highest tally of 18 goals for Saddle Hill Hotspur.

The CNG Super League now takes a break for the holidays; action will resume in the Premier Division on January 7th

Playbook Management International sponsors 1976 FC Phoenix
Tobago News

Coach of 1976 FC Phoenix, Terry Williams, is quite elated with the recent development in the memorandum of understanding signed between the club and Playbook Management International (PMI).

Coach Williams revealed that American executive Michael Hitchcock who owns and operates Fort Worth Vaqueros FC in the American minor leagues and is part owner of professional English club Alfreton Town recently paid a visit to Tobago to move their agreement forward.

Both parties met with a high-powered team from the Tobago House of Assembly which included Secretary for Education, Youth Affairs and Sport, Huey Cadette, Director of Sport, Justin Latapy and Theophilus Trim to bring them up to date on matters related to the contract signed last July.

PMI has agreed to support the club financially for the next three years. This support will involve the provision of uniforms and players’ development.

It is hoped that the union will create opportunities for young, talented Tobagonians to ply their trade in the US and England.

PMI and Phoenix will both receive fifty percent of any player transfer during the period.

In his meeting with the members of the THA, Hitchcock stressed that a website is been created which will be launched in January to promote both 1976 FC Phoenix and Tobago as a sports tourism destination. He however lamented the state of the pitch at Canaan which he advised must be upgraded to facilitate team visits.

In 2016, two Under14 players will be selected from the Phoenix Academy to join Vaqueros FC to play in the Dallas Cup. Shortlisted are standouts from the recently concluded Primary Schools league Kyle Jack, Daniel Marcelle and Oshea Williams.

It is also the intention of the organisation to invite current Phoenix players to train with the American based club then move them to Alfreton Town where they would be oriented into the professional environment.

Shortlisted are Onasi Forde, Andel Brown, Che Richards and Darryl Trim.

In 2017, it is also proposed to fund a youth team to the Dallas Cup which will involve teams and scouts from all over the world.

This initiative will give players an opportunity to be seen for possible future contract abroad.

Other initiative agreed between both parties are the possibility of hosting youth and senior tournament on the sister isle in the future.

If this was to be true, it would be great for the youths of Tobago. It would have been nice if he could have sponsored Phoenix to enter the proleague.

Alexander praises team spirit for $240,000 title.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Tobagonian Kelshall Alexander says that team spirit from the entire technical staff and players was key to Defence Force capturing the $240,000 winners cheque in the 2015/2016 CNG National Super League Premier Division on Sunday.

The “Teteron Men” went into their final round match against cellar-placed Stokely Vale needing a win to be certain of the title and did so in emphatic style with an 8-2 spanking of the visitors at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, led by a beaver-trick from Josimar Belgrave, a hat-trick by Michael Edwards and one from Christon Thomas.

With the win Defence Force ended its 28-match campaign with 66 points, one more than Guaya United which defeated La Horquetta S.A, 3-1 for the $120,000 runner-up prize and commenting on the title triumph, 42-year-old Corporal Alexander said, “ I don’t think our success cannot be put down to any one individual person, but a total team effort as from the start of the season we all had the same goal in mind and that was to be champions when the season concludes.

Reflecting on the topsy-turvy race with Guaya United which led the table for a considerable amount of time as well during the season, before slipping up, Alexander, a former Defence Force T&T Pro League player said he always had confidence in his team. “We knew Guaya was one of the teams to watch from the start of the season and when they took early lead on the table, we just needed to take it one match at a time and hope that things go our away. “They (Guaya) slipped up and we took full advantage and in the end, won by the narrowest of margins.

Alexander was also full of praise for the contributions made by his senior players in Belgrave, Edwards, Baptiste, Keston Williams, goalkeeper Kevin Graham, Dexter Pacheco, Dexter Thornhill  and captain Christopher Durity. He said, “These guys were very important to the team not just on the field of play, but as leaders in the dressing room as well with the wealth of experience they brough from playing at the higher level at national teams and the Pro League.”

“I also depended on them a lot to bring a higher level of discipline to the group as well, because having been part of the Defence Force Pro League title winning teams in the past, they all know what is required to attain success, and it was evident that it trickled down to the rest of the guys in the team, to bring reward.

Despite the inclusion of the experienced players Alexander admitted that it was not all easy as times, because as a former player it was somethings frustrating to see your game plan and instructions not be carried out. He stated, “As an ex-player I have to admit I was tempted at times to put back on my playing gears, but I am normally involved with the training sessions as a player so I was able to let them see first hand, how I wanted things to be done and they responded well on most occasions.”

Looking ahead, Alexander said his players will have the week off before resuming training on February 29 for the T&T Football Association FA Trophy competition. “The FA competition is due to start soon and while the date has not been finalised we don’t want to be caught off guard. So we have to keep our momentum and focus as we want to make a big impact in the tournament as well,” warned Alexander.

In addition to the league crown, Belgrave also captured the “Most Goals” accolade with a stunning 31 goals, while La Horquetta joined Stokely Vale as the two clubs to be demoted to the Championship Division as Real Maracas and Bethel United both picked up points in their contest. 1976 Tobago Phoenix and Matura Re United, which ended third and fourth on the table collected $100,000 and $80,000 respectively.
