It's a move that had never been done before, but Trinidad and Tobago gymnast Marisa Dick has perfected it and made it her own.
The 18-year-old leaps off a springboard to a split, landing on the balance beam, with legs extended, toes pointed and arms stretched up in artistic flair, pefectly balanced.
It's Dick's signature move, CBC News reports, and she debuted it at the World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, last fall. It was the first time it had ever been done.
And now the daring, one-of-a-kind mount has her name and is in the official Code of Points, which defines the scoring system for each level of competition in gymnastics, the news site notes.
"It's super cool to know that my name will kind of live on in the world of gymnastics," Dick, who has dual Canadian citizenship, said. "It's really exciting. It was one of my biggest goals going into [the] worlds, to get this move named after myself."
According to the report, Dick spent months perfecting her skill, repeating the move more than 20 times a day during her long training sessions with her coach at the Capital City Gymnastics Centre in Alberta, Canada.
"We thought, 'Let's try this'; we knew it had never been done before," said Dick, who ended up finishing 74th in the beam event and 77th all around out of 192 women at the competition, according to CBC News. "You mostly have to be flexible and have some guts."
Guts, the gymnast does have, and now she's eyeing a spot on Trinidad and Tobago's Olympic team at Rio de Janeiro. Dick and her teammate Thema Williams are competing for a spot at the April test, which is part of the qualification process for the 2016 Games.

The Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation (TTGF) has decided to send its two top athletes, Thema Williams and Marisa Dick, to its Disciplinary Committee, after the local body was rocked by a second topless photograph this morning.........

Weli, Well, Well. This situation kinda remind of the ice skating bakanal between the two US ice skaters a couple yrs ago.
-
Marissa Dick amid all the controversy with the local governing body created history by qualifying for the Olympics today.
-
Possibility that neither gymnast participates.
-
This is absolutely crazy. The local association did not handle this situation in a professional or unbiased manner. The sad thing is, these two ladies deserve to rep.TT on both their talent and ability. Unfortunately, Olympic gymnastic is very competitive. Unfortunately one had to be chosen. Ok, but the association appeared to be favoring one over the other. This entire situation is not good for local gymnastics. Plus those foreign born will want to think twice about rapping TT. Unbelievable!!!!!!!
As a side note, the great Romanians were unable to quality a team for the Rio games. They will have individuals, though.

Possibility that neither gymnast participates.
I SLEEPPING AND SNORING SOUND WITH THIS DECISION.

We are on the road to having principle and values colliding with expediency. Or, maybe the collision occurred already and these events are about accident reconstruction and damage control.
The nation could win and lose at the same time.
We "should" have a representative in Rio, but at what cost? And to whom?
Potentially, the only "person" smiling might be Azerbaijan.
The zenith is the Olympics. This might be like Kerrigan and Harding without the violence.
-
This thing reeks of serious bias and conflict of interests. Not sure what the outcome will be but I can't see this ending well for TTGF...and especially Marisa Dick. Thema I think will be fine. What's to follow depending on how this ends, can be career ending.

The Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation held a press conference this evening amidst mounting public pressure for responses regarding Thema William's untimely withdrawal. The Federation who has retained Attorney at Lawrence Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj wasn't willing to answer any legal questions, but president David Marquez did make a statement after reading out the report sent from Thema’s coach John Geddert

MARISA...OR BUST*
FIG confirms Dick’s Olympic qualification
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20160429/sports/marisaor-bust
In the midst of the recent controversy surrounding the Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation (TTGF) and the withdrawal of local gymnast Thema Williams, the international governing body for the sport (International Gymnastics Federation) FIG, confirmed yesterday that Marisa Dick cannot be replaced by Williams to compete at the Olympics Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In an official release to the media yesterday, the governing body attempted to clear the air regarding the questions raised regarding the possibility of Williams being selected by the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) to replace Dick, as well as the manner in which events unfolded on the weekend of the Aquece Rio Test Event, which culminated in Williams being replaced on the eve of the tournament, by Dick who was her

If our TTOC sends Marissa Dick to the Olympics, it will confirm that their is not one(maybe few) MEN of courage, principle and integrity administrating sports in our country.
Marisa Dick and her mother Hannifer have proven to be no better than their fellow Canadian, Calder Hart.

Dick in we face

aside: de balance beam is kinda horizontal version of pole-dancing?! ah mean, how long before pole-dancing in de olympics?
