Lalonde Gordon now at #3 - 200m - 20.77 but MLA still #1 60m - 7.17.
Not sure why the IAAF have not added MLA's season opening 60m time of 7.14 to the Women's Indoor Top List. As it is the list should be indicating that MLA's has the two Top 60m times in the World of 7.14 and 7.17.
Also the IAAF have not updated MLA's season opening 200m time of 23.19 to the Women's Indoor Top List.
I am sure if she was American they would have updated it ages ago or maybe our NAAA's need to get on the ball and send the IAAF the information.

Lalonde Gordon won the Armory Indoor Men's 300m in 32.83. He set the facility record of 32.47 there a couple years ago.

DO NOT COUNT OUT JARRIN SOLOMON. He ran a pb in 400m indoor yesterday. 45.42 has him second on the toplist. Lendore ran 46 flat. He is fifth on the toplist.

Gotcha!! More comparable to an outdoor time, but still a good opener even with altitude factored in.

Solomon did 46.43 over the weekend and is currently 11th in the World Top List for 400m Indoors according to the IAAF at this link: http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/sprints/400-metres/indoor/men/senior/2016

Iaaf had it recorded at 45.43 and he was second on the list. I guess they made an error. The time really had me second guessing

Trinidad and Tobago’s thrower Portious Warren was in record-breaking mood on the weekend.
In the women’s shot put open event at the NAU Invitational, held at Northern Arizona University, Warren threw 16.16m to beat her teammate Jess St. John 14.94m.
Warren’s mark erased the NJCAA indoor record of 16.09m and is also a school record.
Meanwhile, BVI’s twin and Warren’s teammates at Central Arizona, Tynelle Gumbs 19.70m and Trevia Gumbs 18.01m were 1st and 2nd respectively in the weight throw.
Warren was 4th in this event in 17.24m

Well done guys, Coach Trevor Green and Zenith Velocity track club.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
On viewing the race, I think Lalonde eased off at the end and could have clocked a faster time.
Still its a nice SB of 20.76 from him! Would have been nice to see Lalonde equal or lower his 200m Indoor PB of 20.58 before the Indoor season is over.
His coach Trevor Green commented on facebook that Lalonde did ease off a bit but this race was more about Lalonde bringing his training partner to a faster time. TG also said this is Lalonde's last race until world indoors and that he wanted a 20.50 from Lalonde but was extremely thankful for his two athletes in the race to have run 20.XXs.

Kai ran a pb52.6x in the 400m. Considering that she does not specialize in the 400m, that is a very PROMISING time. Exploring the 400m might be a good option for her as we very weak in this event and spots for the 100m, 200m and 4x100 will be hard to get. Regardless what her choice is, I think this is the year she will make herself known. Good luck Kai

Jehue needs to run the Olympic qualification standard of 49.40 soon like most of the other top 400m hurdlers who have opened their 2016 season have already done. 49.40 or better would also move Jehue into the IAAF Top 10 List which is where the world's top 400m hurdlers tend to to be during most of the outdoor season.
Jehue is currently 34th in the IAAF World Top List with 50.30 (http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/hurdles/400-metres-hurdles/outdoor/men/senior/2016) and needs to drop at least 1 second off that time if he is going to be considered by pundits as medal contender or even a prospective 400m Hurdles Finalist come Rio.

Nice piece. Looks like he's willing to struggle through wh KAB wasn't. Hope he takes the deuce seriously. A goal of 20.2 doesn't fill me with confidence. Sub 20 is where he should be pointing his compass.

You Beat me to it. All I can do is SMH. I just hope he is healthy.

At the Penn Relays .T&T women 4x100m were right there with the big two until a mix up between the 3rd and 4th runner. KAB and MLA got us off to a good start. RT held her own but her hand off to KSF was poor.

Now realizing Bledman hasn't shown face yet. All the other notable athletes in his club sans KAB, have made at least one outdoor appearance and a lot of them have 2 under their belts. What's going on???
-
Also where is Semoy Hackett and Kai Selvon? We definitely need them as part of the Women's 4x100m Relay pool in Rio if we plan to medal.
Hackett was looking good last season in the 200m but it seems she is yet to open her 2016 season outdoors and National Trials is next month!! :worried:
I was hoping to see Hackett go sub-11 this season and fight with MLA, KAB and the young Khalifa St.Fort for one of the three individual 100m spots in Rio!
We need to have at least three sub-11 females in our relay team if we want to medal in Rio and at least fight with JA and USA for silver or gold.
-
Hackett has run once or twice, but the times were pedestrian. Could go back and find it if the masses care.

Word out is that the NAAA wants all possible Rio contenders at the Grand games on May 21st. I heard from a reliable source that all of the usual suspects were invited to the grand games. Most will be participating.

I believe SH ran 11.43 and Kai has run 11.42 so far but note that kai has run 52. in the 400m. She could probably win the womens 400m at Nationals this year with that time.
I know I would love to see 4 sub-11 sprinters but realistically I see KAB, MLA and Khalifa getting there (when she peaks later on). However I do see Semoy and Kai peaking at 11.1 which would be good enough to secure bronze. We can challenge for better medals provided each of our ladies run the leg of their lives and hand overs are swift. E.g. the US women ran a WR with Bianca Knight on third leg who had a best of 11.13 in the 100 that year. However Bianca's stronger event is the 200 so she has experience on the curve. Both Semoy and Kai favour the 200m so it will be between them and RT for 3rd leg. I think they can give the US and Jam a run for their money. Just need to stay healthy.
When our ladies peak we have decent depth. We have our top 3 capable of sub-11 and SH,KS, RT, KD all can manage 11.1-11.2.

I hope Machel, Deon, Lalonde and our other top quarter-milers see this interview so they realize what times will be required this year if they plan to make the 400m final and medal in Rio.
Also here is another good interview with Mewrritt talking about the purpose of his 200m speed work.

Cedenio did not have the best lane. Regardless, good result. Beat a decent field. That Haroun kid is special. 19 yeas old and living in sub 45. He will win the World junior this year.
Back to Cedenio. A medal in Rio is POSSIBLE.
-
Good run from Cedenio. Should only get better as the season progress.

WVN ran a 44.11 yesterday. Looks like him, Kirani and Merritt will be the main contenders for the medals in Rio. Cedenio will need to break Ian Morris's record to medal.

Cedenio needs to get in some 200m speed work and to lower his 200m PB to at least 20.50 or better if he plans to make the 400m final and medal in Rio. I think the medalist in Rio will all definitely need to be capable of running 43.xx in the Final after running sub-45 in the Heats and 44 low in the Semi-Final rounds. 44 mid could very well not be fast enough to qualify for the 400m Finals from the Semis in Rio.

Cedenio was a boss 200m runner in his junior years. I'm surprised he hasn't run the 200m since turning pro. Some 200 races will give him the speed work to compete with Kirani, Merritt and WVN. With some training I'm sure Cedenio can run low 20 or even sub.

This habit that Brown has of not running outside of T&T and trying to peak for National Trials so that he can make the T&T team but then pulling out of the team with an injury after he travels with the team outside of T&T needs to stop.
I would like to see Brown run in a few regional meets outside of T&T and run below the Olympic 100m standard of 10.16 before I raise my hopes of him being able to contribute positively to our Men's 4x100m relay squad.
Bledman is coming back from an operation he had last year so we should hear from him soon but I am not sure if Burns has retired or not.

You took the words out of my mouth.
I hope the 4x100 men surprise us. Currently things don't look good for them. It will be good if they go 3 for 3 and win our 3rd silver in as many Olympics in the 4x100. Will be a nice way to close the Thompson, Burns, Brown, Bledman, Callender, Sorillo era..

Just saw Shakell Waithe win the Men's Javelin with his final throw at the Jamaica International Invitational at this link: http://www.1spotmedia.com/index.php/live_events/main
Shakell Waithe's winning throw was 76.30m.
I would expect him to throw the Olympic standard of 83m soon as that is his aim by or before T&T National Trials in June.

Yeah Aviator. I realize that. That's why I said a sub 10 should be about right. Thompson usually runs sub 10 easily with that kind of tail wind.

MLA came out of her drive phase too quickly thus making it more difficult to get to her top end speed like ET did. MLA has some work to do on her drive phase, top end speed and speed endurance if she wants to be in a position to beat the likes of Bowie, Schippers, Thompson and SAFP by Rio. Any female who wants to medal in 100m in Rio will need to be ready to run 10.7x basic or better.

Not really.. if u followed Quow's openers for the past 3 years he never opens fast he peaks near trials.. Last year he opened with 46.8 in shanghai where he finished 7th... a week b4 trials at adidas grand prix he ran 45.6. Then at trials he ran 44.9 then a week after ran 44.7 in Hungary. Quow peaks at the right time.

I think MLA has top end speed for days the fact that she can maintain 23mph on a treadmill for 9/10s is evidence of that, so the issue isn't necessarily that but like you said partly her speed edurance/maintenance (a bigger issue in the 200m for both her and KAB), technique and race execution/transitions between phases. I'm no expert but from consistent observation you can see little things.
When you don't have efficient technique I think it's easier for things to go wrong if you don't execute your race perfectly. Esp when up against ladies who have booming starts, acceleration and speed endurance to match. I know different athletes have different training programs etc and it is early on in the season but being .2s behind Et, DS and TB right now isn't the best of situations to be in. Franno is a mastermind and Elaine is coachable so I know she can only get better from here so can you imagine the times she will be running in Rio? SafP will be ready, DS will be stronger as will Tori.
One major difference between those girls and MLA is their technique. Their arms aren't flailing from side to side. They have great stride length and turnover to match and they are relaxed, it's not as choppy. Even if they don't start well (DS, TB) their technique will make it easier for them to come back into a race. Of course there are other factors such as their height etc but you get my drift.
Im not sure if her present coach can get these things out of her. The season is young so we will see. I would like to see them (MLA, KAB) run 10.8 outside of Trinidad/Clermont/Eugene but that's secondary, winning a medal or making the final is the goal. I will always be rooting for MLA and our athletes rain or shine.

The Grenadians just came 1st and 2nd. Francis 3rd. Dont have the times. Dont know what happened to the Trinis :(

Looks like the Trinis are not having a good meet in Guadeloupe. I hope Thompson has a plan.

Javon Francis 44.77

Deon Lendore was 4th in Guadeloupe in 45.31 seconds. Lalonde Gordon was 7th in 46.65 seconds.
Richard Thompson was 7th in the men's 100m in Guadeloupe in 10.37 seconds.

I dont think he is. I think he has more left in the tank and even if he doesnt make the individual final if he can peak around 9.9/10 that would be a crucial relay leg.
Deon is slowly rounding into form as is KAB. She dropped from 23.50 at Texas relays to 22.73 which is good but it is Clermont. Let's see what she does on the main circuit.
MLA improving too which is nice

I'm very concerned about our relay boys. We are halfway into May and none of them has run under 10.2. Still no sign of Burns, Brown or Callendar. These guys are supposed to run at the Grand games.. So I hope they come out with some good times at HCS. France, England, Canada and Japan are looking at us and feeling good about snatching a 4x100 medal come Rio.

So the grand games has turned into the Grand Crash...shame!
A "GRAND shame". These guys had a lot of good athletes confirmed. Many turned down other opportunities to run, jump and throw elsewhere.
The word out is that the organizers needed support (I'm sure financial) from other entities.
Guadeloupe and Cayman organizing meets, we cant organize anything and we have access to more resources.. A "grand shame".

The Chief Executive Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Grand Games has spoken for the first time about the cancellation of the Track and Field Invitational which was supposed to happen tomorrow, Saturday May 21st.
Regina John cites failure to secure one crucial piece of authorisation as the main reason for the cancellation of the Games. She also lamented the lack of support she and her team experienced. An extended version of that interview with Ms. John will be aired right here on CTV at noon tomorrow.
-
In an exclusive interview with C News Live, CEO of TT Grand Games Regina John attributes the cancellation of the games to the untimely filing of paper work and negativity.

She seemed pretty upset, but if everything was I place, why wait until this week to deal with the insurance issue??
One Mr Boldon already ripped her a new one on twitter. I suggest trying to work with her and try to repair the great damage that has been done, instead of the crab inna barrel tear down behaviour. It does no good.

What happened to Keshorn. 7th place? 74 meter throw. I hope he gets it together soon.
-
Cedenio did not have the finishing kick. Too much to do against such a great field. He just needs to get stronger and he'll be fine. He is very young and barring injury, he will be champion before long.

Per Monsieur Boldon's twitter account, Richard ran 10.08 legal wind over the weekend.

Richard “Torpedo” Thompson steered his Road to Rio campaign back on track at the Atlanta Georgia Relays, in the United States, on Sunday.
The Trinidad and Tobago track star stopped the clock at a season’s best 10.08 seconds to claim gold in the men’s 100 metres dash, ahead of St Kitts and Nevis sprinter Brijesh Lawrence (10.16) and American D’Angelo Cherry (10.17).

I feel like MLA should be up there with the best.

Richard Vs Gatlin Sunday in Rio over 100m.

T&T athletes running slow times for the season so far. Anyway what is the deal with Jehue Godon this Olympic season? I have not seen or heard much of him

It looking kind of bleak for TT. So far. It is just a feeling. I could be wrong.

Richard Vs Gatlin Sunday in Rio over 100m.
You think Richard challenging Gatlin for 1st? It will be an accomplishment for Richard if he run under 10.10 .
As Deeks mentioned, things look bleak for TT.. In fact MLA just came last 11.48 in Birmingham. She is still struggling with the flu. Still trying to find the form if 2014/2015. Some good times better come soon as RIO is less than 70days away.

No. Never expected an actual race between the two.

I almost ate my words. Thompson did not look too bad against Gatlin.

Nice run by Thompson his patience is paying off and I think he will be ready for the Olympics. I think he can be a finalist.
Unless MLA had an obligation to fulfill by running in Bham then she should not have. The Olympics is round the corner and she needs to think even beyond that. Maybe drop out of the Racers Grand Prix to recuperate for trials. Then again I'm not paying her bills and sprinting is but still care should be taken.

What I am happy about where MLA is concerned is she has had no apparent injuries so far this season.
However I would much prefer if MLA don't compete if she has the flu but as you said we are not paying her bills.
If both MLA and KAB don't run legal sub-11 times at Trials then I'll start to get a bit worried but I would not start to panic just yet.
If our top 3 female sprinters can all run legal sub-11 times at Trials and then emulate those times outside of T&T as we head to Rio then I think our Women's 4x100 relay team should remain strong medal contenders but we got to have at least 3 of them in 11-flat form or better to try to keep ahead of Britain.
In fact a similar scenario applies to our male sprinters. If our top 3 male sprinters can all run legal sub-10 times at Trials and then emulate those times outside of T&T as we head to Rio then I think our Men's 4x100 relay team can be rated as strong medal contenders but we got to have at least 3 of them in 10-flat form or better to be in the mix with the USA and JA for a 4x1 relay medal in Rio.
-
Soca I'm happy about that too and was thinking the same. She has been healthy and has not gotten injured let's hope it stays so.
I think they are both comfortable enough to run sub 11 in Trinidad. They've both ran fast there before so I won't make the mistake of getting excited if KAB throws down a 10.8x. When that form can be replicated at league meetings/major games I will be excited. I dont even mean running sub-11 at every meet. I just mean being in the mix with the big guns. Right now though it seems as if she is in heavy training mode since switching back to the Brauman camp. Maybe her move to Ato's camp should have been done in a non championship year. I still feel he would have had her ready.
The British girls are coming for us! Desiree Henry and Ashleigh Nelson appear to be in 11.0x form and we already know about Dina Asher Smith... If Asha Philip somehow rounds into shape then we will have a real tussle on our hands. We need Kai/Semoy/Reyare in 11.1 shape atleast.
If Keston has recovered fully then we have 2 strong legs. I'm not sure about the other two maybe Jamol James and Rondell Sorillo?

Don't forget Khalifa. Ato is planning on unleashing her soon. She is a fast learner and I think she will occupy a spot on the team. One last thing, Semoy ran a week and a half ago. Came 2nd in a okay field. Mark my words, Kai is going to impress. She has finally overcome a few injury niggles in the past two years.
Word out is that ALL the usual suspects in the men's 100m will be showing up. This will surely be the last hurrah for the Burns, Brown,
Thompson, Calendar, Sorrillo era. That generation has given us good service.
-
Gop I hear you and I believe Khalifa will get that spot on the team. I trust Ato's guidance and Khalifa's talent, work ethic and mindset so seeing as she peaked at 11.19 last year and would have run 11.17 at Carifta this year if the wind had allowed, I'd say she is on course for 11.0x if not sub 11. I love how Kai runs, smooth and effortless but she seems to be always cruising in gear 5 but if she can tap into that extra gear I think she can get some great results.
I hope the guys come ready. I hate to think of it as the last hurrah but all good things must come to an end. It would be nice if both our women's and men's team could medal in the same championship.

Walcott was at Oslo diamond league. 86.35. Came 3rd. 5th on top list. Slowly rounding into form.

KAB will go in the 100m and Cedenio and Lalonde in the 400m tonight at the Inaugural Racers Invite.

Cedenio almost PR'd just now. 44.37 to win with a powerful finish. Lalonde 4th in 44.84

Francis 44.79 2nd
Tapljn 44.81 3rd
Gordon 44.84 4th.
Very impressive run. Cedenio made it look EASY. Remember dat .
Must say this meet is very very well organized.
-
I don't think that the meet was Clermont but it was in Florida. I'm a bit skeptical too but I will wait for them including Murielle Ahoure who ran 10.78 to back it up when the time comes.
Wow Cedenio is rounding into form. I will give him another year before he can challenge WVN, Kirani and Merritt. Definitely a finalist if things go to plan.
-
KAB was 3rd in 11.15. I think she may have been in better form if she was with Ato. I feel as if her 2011 form was her best and she hasn't been able to replicate that since. I think our only hope is the 4x100m this year.

Race videos featuring TTO athletes in Jamaica this weekend.
Not a bad run by Kelly-Ann Baptist (11:15) in Jamaica this weekend for 3rd place in 100m.
Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce 11.08 100m Women's Racers Grand Prix 2016

T&T National Trials should see a keen contest between Kelly-Ann Baptist, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Semoy Hackett and Khalifa St. Fort for the top 3 places to run the 100m in Rio. Lets also not forget about Kai Selvon and Reyare Thomas.
If all goes well our Women's 4x100m team will be very strong medal contenders in Rio.
Also nice 400m win by Machel Cedenio in Jamaica this weekend.

T&T National Trials should see a keen competition between Machel Cedenio, Deon Lendore and Lalonde Gordon for the top 3 places to run the 400m in Rio. Lets also not forget about Renny Quow and Jarrin Solomon who are both capable of fast sub-45 times as well.

So what has Jehue Gordon and Keshorn Walcott done for the season so far? Olympics right round d corner
Keshorn threw his 3rd longest throw a few weeks back. I think he is in top 5 on iaaf list .
Jehue is well off. In fact the times he is running now are similar to what he was running when he was 16. Moreover, I believe he does not even have the Olympic standard for this year. In other words, he might not be in Rio.
-
Sorry to say but ah not expecting much from our track and field athletes in Rio based on what we have seen from them for the year so far. I hope they surprise me and the country

45.34 for Lendore. Was in the race for about 330m, but faltered when it came time to press. Had no answer for th eventual winner.
MLA second in her heat in 11.03(-1.3m/s) and the best I have seen her look from a mechanical standpoint this year.

Lendore 2nd in the Men's 400m at London DL today. I was hoping that he would finally go sub-45 and prove that he is gearing into his best PB shape just in time for Rio.
Sub-45 might be required in Rio just to progress out of the 400m Heats into the Semi Finals so Lendore needs to improve and get into sub-45 shape if he plans to be a factor in the Men's 400m in Rio.

MLA goes sub-11 in the final for 2nd place. Looking reasonably good for Rio.
On a related note both Ivory Coast and Great Britain will give us some serious competition in the Women's 4x100m Relay for the 3rd spot unless we lift our game and are prepared to go mid 41.xx in the 4x100m Final as the GB 4x100m Relay Women's team set a new NR, MR and WL of 41.81 in the London DL Women's 4x100 Relay yesterday.

I suspect SAFP will perform much better in Rio as she is coming off an injury.
The GB 4x100m Men also set a WL of 37.78 today and I am hoping that the TTO Men's 4x100m Team can at least match them time wise with our current leg speed so we can contend for a Men's 4x100m medal in Rio.

Ta Lou ran well out of the blocks transitioning through to high knees and running tall. Decent race from MLA she had a better start than in the heats but was just beaten here by Ta Lou's better form.
I dont think Ivory Coast can challenge us yet they have two strong legs but we have 4 solid legs. Great Britain yes but Ivory Coast not yet.

Oh wow we have a battle on hands. I think they should be strong enough, though that would mean knocking over .3s off of our NR to secure it.

Uh oh, we better come good!!
In Mannheim on Friday, Germany's 4x100m women's relay team sent a message out of their own as Tatjana Pinto, Lisa Mayer, Gina Luckenkemper and Rebekka Haase won in 41.62, the quickest time in the world this year as their sprinters raised the tempo for the Olympics with a farewell meeting to remember.

Our 4 top female sprinters (KAB, MLA, Hackett & St Fort/Selvon) have faster overall foot speed than all those other teams besides Jamaica and USA so provided that we make safe and efficient baton exchanges we should be able to beat both Germany and Great Britain in Rio.
The main thing for us to worry about is getting enough relay practice in to ensure we make safe and efficient baton exchanges when under pressure in a real competition environment.

Well done Ato
I suspect that is an error or does Ato have enough power with the IAAF to get our women 4 individual spots in the 100m?

Lol...no mistake. You can take 4 athletes, but only 3 can run. The TTOC has until the 13th to submit the final team. Khalifa is already there for the 4x1, so it's smart , have her as as alternate.

Good job Cleopatra, finishing your season on a high! :beermug: 🇹🇹
