Garcia’s double spurs on ‘Warriors’
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA).

Trinidad and Tobago Dutch-based starlet Levi Garcia was the “Good Friday” Savior for the “”Soca Warriors” as he came off the bench to notch a double to spur T&T to on to a come from behind 3-2 victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.

With the scores leveled at one apiece after Joevin Jones curled home a right sided corner in the 51st minute, head coach Stephen Hart threw Garcia into the attack and the AZ Alkmaar player delivered the goods on debut, making him the youngest player to score for T&T in World Cup qualifying action and on debut to boot. His goals came in the 71st and 81st minutes to push T&T to seven points from three matches in the CONCACAF semi-final round of 2018 World Cup qualification.

The win coupled with Guatemala’s 2-0 victory over the United States on Friday night left the “Warriors” atop the group with seven points ahead of Guatemala (six points) and USA (four). The win for Guatemala also meant that T&T must go for the win on Tuesday against St Vincent in order to stay ahead of the pack and look ahead to the closing two matches in September to seal their final round spot.

T&T were not fluent in the first half and struggled to settle on the hard surface which was not made any easier by the humid conditions. Orlando City’s Kevin Molino played his first full match for T&T since returning from injury and was busy for the most part although being unable to be a major threat to the homeside’s defence.

T&T could have found themselves ahead when Aubrey David stepped inside off the left flank and forced a brilliant stop from goalkeeper Lemus Christopher. Kenwyne Jones also went close when he ran onto to Khaleem Hyland’s threaded ball but his low effort was saved by Christopher. St Vincent also had a good attempt when Emerald George and Myron Samuel combined and almost punished T&T, only for a quickly advancing Phillip to force George’s shot wide.

The hosts got the go ahead goal a minute from half time when Phillip was adjudged to have brought down David Pitt inside the penalty box and Myron Samuel clinically converted the resulting kick.

Jones would tie the scores up with a the inswinging corner and T&T were not looking to surge ahead. Hart’s tactical substitution would pay off with both Garcia and midfielder Neveal Hackshaw being instrumental in T&T going ahead.

Jones would head one on for Garcia who picked up the ball and made his run goal wards, taking on defender Akeem Williams before blasting past Christopher.

St Vincent would find themselves back in the match when Jarrel McMaster, played a diagonal ball over on the left for Anderson who slipped the ball wide for Shandel Samuel to hit home from close range to make it 3-3.

But T&T went to Kingstown for three points and there would be no letting up. Hackshaw, a teammate of Garcia on the previous T&T Under 20 team, played a brilliant ball over the Vincentian defence and the 18-year-old Garcia latched on before hitting past Christopher for the winning goal. Soon after he had another chance but his volley went across the goal.

The three points on the road will play a big part in T&T’s quest to progress to the final round of six teams.

The T&T Team arrives home on a Caribbean Airlines charter on Saturday evening and will look ahead to Tuesday’s qualifier versus the same opponents at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 7pm. Tickets will be on sale on Tuesday from 10am at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Well look trouble now. Our group seems to be quite open. This is a 3 way fight. Guatemala fight their way back into contention, and USA in a must win situation for their remaining games. I hope the team recognizes that the complacency shown yesterday has no place come out next 2 games. We must win our next 2, and get atleast a draw against USA. That Guatemala game going to be a real dog fight in port of Spain! Heart attack thing now!

It is highly impossible that our guys don't know that despite their top position in the group, that there is no room for mistakes in the next 3 games. More so the next 2. If they don't know that, then we doom to watching the Hex without TT. These fellas have to step up their play. All this talk about some rusty, etc, etc .....  is poor excuse. Some senior guys pulling stones in crucial games like these. We can make excuses for friendlies, but not for must win situations. And I read the Bostock situation may take a month to finalize. Coach will have to shake up our team. We can't play Vincy and Guat. like we did yesterday. Recipe for disaster.

Our wide mids defensively at times wasn't working hard to compress the midfield, St-Vincent at times in attack had too much time in the mid and knowing that Molino was like a 2nd striker it left Hyland and Boucaud with too much work.

So why the sudden drop in form

Hart does not get enough time with them. They need match practice. More friendlies against regular and higher ranked teams.

I man enjoying the ride, from all the speculation on this site,it give me the impression that everyone here is the coach of the MNT,without hearing what Hart plans were,we are all speculating.
Given that this game should have been easily won, condition on the ground were not at its best and we took some time to adjust and  figure it out but we won .....came from being down to win, which I must say is a very important character of a good team...finding a will to win in the most of trying circumstances
Players must remember that their careers are not forever and by taking care of business on the field is what insures they maximise their earning potential..
JDW has a shelf life, just ask JW....just keep the ball moving in a positive and progressive manner
All good things in time
This is just the beginning of a new era
So let's come together and give thanks and praises.......as Warriors we live to fight another day or night
I am sure my Jersey will be ready for Tuesday......how about you......?

USA, Mexico, etc, play games outside of the FIFA window.

T&T does not have that luxury, now Hart is left with a 5 day training camp and a situation where he has to use important games as basically experiments or tune ups.

Its really a hard situation to fix.

If you notice the tournaments where T&T do good (Gold Cup) Hart has the team for a longer period and more games in a shorter space of time.

Our last game with a almost full team was January 8th (78 days, 12 days short of 3 months), before that is was November last year was our last game.

The stop gap is a major problem.

You cannot play a game every 2/3 months and expect the team to function right away, not only players get unfit for the international games, they lose tune and interest to some extent.

SVG players got together longer than us, they even played a friendly with most of their team vs Martinique.

Guatemala, USA, Mexico and Honduras had games also.

To their advantage most of their players are based home.

We played Grenada and not one of those members played yesterday, again, not the fault of the coach, but the situation is very hard.

T&T team has been successful on basically individual efforts like we saw Levi did yesterday and this is a lack of games together.

The TTFA must find a way to help fix this, at least get the guys together once a month, even if it's 85% of the team.

It tough to remedy when your starting 11 is playing in as much as 9 different leauges  around the world and there is only  one home based player
Tough but still play a nice brand which is yet to be perfected,we will make major waves soon, once Bostic fall in trust me
We truly need a serious update in goal

Obviously, there is some senior players not pulling their weight.

Hyland and Cyrus look like the game has passed them.

Time for Foncette is get a chance in goal.

I was impressed with Hart for putting trust in youths Levi and Hackshaw.

From the interview Hart looked very upset.

It would be interesting to see what he does on Tuesday.

I wish the guys all the best. Will be at the game early.

Kenwyne, rally your troops, I have faith in you !!!!

Time to get behind Hart guys !!!!

In the interview Hart mentioned that it was shocking at times the organization between the mids and back line. I think more blame should be put on the backline for being lackadaisical by sitting deep and not pushing high to close the gaps.

I was impress with the team mentality to try and build up their attack with the short passing and not panic by going to the easy long ball option, even though the ground condition didn't suit the short passing game.

Vincy will try to mark Garcia with two players for the next game. This will open up Jones and give more space for our attack.
