Flow Carenage Utd unbeaten in Super league qualifiers.

Flow Carenage United, the champion team of the Northern Football Association (NFA), leads the standings in the Champion of Champions Super League Qualifiers after two rounds of action with an unbeaten record. They are on six points after beating East champs Valtrin in the first round 2-1, and Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU) winners Valencia 2-0 in round two.
Today, they will go after their third win against Young Stars, the Tobago champs. Kick-off is at 5 pm at the Carenage Recreation Ground.
Their match will be one of three games on the day as the top teams from the six regional associations—the Northern Football Association (NFA), Eastern Football Association (EFA), Central Football Association (CFA), Southern Football Association (SFA), Tobago Football Association (TFA) and the Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU)—battle for two places in this year’s Super League Tournament to start in June.
In their first-round win against Valtrin, the Carenage men got goals from Jaril Edwards and Kyle Andrews to receive maximum points, although Valtrin pulled a goal back from Marcus Gomez.
Also in winner’s row were Young Stars which prevailed by a 4-1 scoreline over San Fernando Giants while Valencia triumphed over Central winners Fire Services 2-1 at the Cyd Gray Recreation Ground in Roxborough.
United’s 2-0 victory in the second round at the Valencia Recreation Ground also saw the Southerners rebounding from their loss to the Young Stars, to a 2-1 win for their first three points of the tournament, while Valtrin secured full points for the first time, with a 2-1 victory over Young Stars at the Valtrin Recreation Ground. Apart from Carenage, all the other teams have won just once and are on three points.
Carenage United manager and coach Angus Eve has called on corporate T&T to come out in support of his team, saying they would require more financial support if they are to compete in the super league. His team has been part-sponsored by Member of Parliament for the area, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, otherwise Eve has had to dip into his pocket for its everyday operations.
He believes his team will be crucial in the fight against violent crimes, juvenile delinquency, school drop-outs and other social ills plaguing the country, as it will provide youngsters with an option. Eve, a former national coach and midfielder, told the Guardian he is also desirous of competing in the top-flight T&T Professional League.

Valtrin go after Super League spot.

Eastern Football Association (EFA) champions Valtrin will be at home at its Real Spring recreation ground for the team’s final Super League qualifying clash with Valencia in key match from 6 pm.
The initial encounter between the teams on April 4 at the same venue was called off with the score at 1-1 but last week the Competition and Tournaments Committee of the T&T Football Association ordered that the match be replayed. This did not go down well with officials of other teams, who said reports from teams that played at the Valsayn venue, suggested that the easterners appeared to have problems dealing with their supporters.
Yesterday Valtrin manager Dexter Scott rubbished those claims, saying their supporters are no different from others and will stand up when they see injustice. In the first encounter, Valtrin appealed for a penalty when striker Nathaniel Joseph went down from a challenge by the Valencia goalkeeper, but the referee did not blow what appeared to be an infringment, resulting in the crowd storming the pitch.
There were also complaints the match should have been replayed from the at which point it was called. Scott said he did not have any problems playing the game from that point as they were totally in control and should have been awarded a penalty to go into the lead.
“This is what officials of the Competition and Tournaments Committee have decided and therefore we have to go with it,” Scott said.
Youth Stars, the Tobago winners, currently lead the standings with a superior goal difference to Carenage United on plus-3. Both teams are on 10 points after five matches, but Valtrin, which are on seven points from four matches, could take the top position on goal difference with victory today.
Scott said his players are ready and excited for the final match as they are seeing action in the Super League for yet another time. “We are not going to take Valencia lightly as we know they will be coming to mess things up for us. We are aiming at maximum points and as many goals as possible. We are going to play our normal style of football and hopefully we will get the required result that we are chasing,” Scott said.
The Valtrin boss said his team is aware of what is needed to compete at the Super League tournament. “We just have some minor things to work out but when that time comes, we will be ready. But before we can think about that, we have to beat Valencia today,” Scott said.

Is there a Competition and Tournament Committe in TTFA? I don't think so. However, the decision makers got this wrong in my humble opinion. It was Valtrin's home game, their supporters stormed the field, they were responsible for security and therefore should forfeit the game.

Valtrin tops Super League but faces disciplinary charges.

Eastern Football Association (EFA) champions Valtrin climbed to the top of the standing in the Super League Qualifiers on Tuesday after Valencia failed to show for a rescheduled match at the Real Spring Recreation Ground in Valsayn, Valtrin’s home venue.
The match, which was called-off on April 4 due to a fracas, was ordered to be replayed by the competition and tournaments committee of the T&T Football Association, following a protest by the home team.
The no-show by the Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU) winners meant Valtrin were handed full points and three goals, which would have placed them ahead on the table with a superior goal difference.
The standings were being led by Tobago champs Youth Stars with 10 points and a better goal difference than Carenage United of (+3).
Tuesday’s result, however, pushed the easterners to ten points and a superior goal difference of (+6) with only the top two teams advancing to the NGC-sponsored Super League. The T&T Guardian learnt, however, that Valtrin were not sure of qualifying as they had a disciplinary matter pending against them.
Sharon O’Brien, an official of the TTFA explained yesterday that if the Disciplinary Committee of the TTFA rules against Valtrin, it will cost them points and goals which will hamper their chances of qualifying for the Super League.
Valtrin has been accused of using unregistered players from teams in the Central Football Association (CFA), which Fire Services, the winner of the CFA protested about two weeks ago. Contacted, CFA officials confirmed that one player, Jamal Lucas from CFA club Chaguanas FC, represented the east club without being transferred or registered.
Central officials have also complained that a number of teams in their region, have filed concerns against Valtrin for snapping up their players without seeking transfers. Documentation of this is currently in the process of being sent to the disciplinary committee of the TTFA for a decision.
One CFA official said when he went through his association’s transfer documents he realised Lucas was still a Chaguanas CF player.
“He was not transferred or registered with Valtrin. Due to the requests by the TTFA for confirmation on the legitimacy of Lucas to play in the Super League qualifiers, we realised that a number of players were taken up by Valtrin for the play-off but were not transferred,” the CFA official said.
Yesterday, Valtrin manager Dexter Scott said he heard about the concern by Fire Services a long time ago but thought the matter had been dealt with. He described it as frivolous and felt it was meant to hamper his team’s stroll into the Super League for another year.
He also commented on the no-show of the Valencia team, saying it was unfortunate the match did not play on Tuesday as his players were looking forward to finish the qualifiers on a high.
If Valtrin is found guilty, both the Youth Stars and Carenage United, the Northern Football Association (NFA) champs will qualify for the Super League.

Eastern Football Association (EFA) champions Valtrin have been confirmed as a qualifier to this year’s National Gas Company National Super League scheduled to take place later this year.
The east champs cruised to the top of the standings on a superior goal difference, after a re-scheduled match with Valencia, the Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU) winners failed to show at the Real Spring Recreation Ground in Valsayn last week, awarding their full points and three goals for the top spot.
In addition Valtrin were also awaiting a ruling by the Competition and Tournaments Committee of the T&T Football Association after Fire Services of the Central Football Association (CFA) protested their use of an unregistered player – Jamal Lucas, during an encounter on April 4.
But yesterday the CTC ruled in favour of Valtrin, citing a blunder in the Eastern Football Association for an incomplete transfer document for Lucas.
It said the club should not have to suffer due to mistakes by the regional association. Linus Sanchez, the EFA president admitted the blunder was made during the Neville Ferguson-led EFA last year before the Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers on November 19.
However, it appears as though the mistake may have stemmed from Chaguanas FC, the club Lucas represented previously. Documents from Lucas’ transfer to Valtrin showed he was not given a release from the Central club last year.
Sanchez explained the constitution of the EFA gives his association the right to transfer a player from a club if there is a reluctance by the club to release him.
“The transfer document enables players to state if they want to leave a club and this was clearly highlighted by Lucas, but the area for the club to release him was blank. This suggests the club may have been unwilling to release him” Sanchez explained.
Attempts to reach officials of Chaguanas FC proved futile. General Secretary of the CFA Clynt Taylor confirmed Chaguanas FC management did not want to release Lucas.
He explained that when transferring a player the club seeking the player, must contact the club that the player is registered with and both must agree in writing.
This document is then brought to us (CFA) and we will conduct a search to ensure that the player is a bonafide member of the club he is leaving, before a fee of $200 is taken up as a charge.”
In his attempt to provide further clarity to the situation, Taylor said once the player has been confirmed officially as a member of a team in their zone, the fee is collected and the transfer certificate given.
The ruling means Valtrin have topped the standing with a superior goal difference of plus-6 with the Youth Stars in second position and Carenage United, which has lost just one game in the play-offs in third.

Santa Rosa signs deal with Sports & Games.

National Super League campaigners FC Santa Rosa has signed a sponsorship deal with Sports & Games. Details of the partnership were disclosed yesterday at a launch at AE Tactical Headquarters, Trincity Industrial Estate.
The club will now be known as Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa. The sportswear company will provide the club with assistance in marketing, employment opportunities for its players, outfit the team for the season and subsidise its expenses.
In return, the club will provide branding opportunities, ranging from the promotion of the company’s name and products its uniforms, banners and other signs on the fields as well as major promotion on its website and on social media.
Since its inception in 1992, the club has grown to be the pride of Arima, providing opportunities for budding players from the age of six years to realise their dreams. Under coach Keith Look Loy, a former national player, the club will enter the National Gas Company-sponsored National Super League for a sixth time.
Yesterday Look Loy said his club was very pleased to form the partnership, as it brings additional resources on the development process.
He explained; “This will assist in the development of the club's flag ship team, the Big Cannons. The Santa Rosa developmental and financial models do not include paying players. We are an amateur club with huge ambitions and we do all in our power to ensure our players are comfortable and could concentrate on playing football. Sports & Games will be providing employment for those of our players who need it.”
He said the sportswear giants support their approach to club development, emphasizing that this support will help to get people into seats and allow the team to generate income. “This is a huge step. In turn, we provide a platform for their marketing,” Look Loy explained.
Nicknamed ‘The Cannons’, the club comprises an Under-12, U-14 and U-16 team, as well as a senior team that was started in 2010 and participated in the Eastern Football Association’s (EFA) Second Division before earning promotion to the Super League in 2012/13. Last season, they finished 7th in the Super League, their best finish to date.

NSL clubs boot out plan to scrap NGC Super League.

A decision by the Tobago Football Association (TFA) to scrap the National Gas Company (NGC) National Super League was shot down at Saturday’s Extraordinary General Meeting of the T&T Football Association (TTFA). There was no voting on the idea but Super League clubs are expecting that their voice will be heard.
The TFA in a lengthy document, proposed a Champions League or an Inter Zone competition to replace the League as it believes it will allow the growth and development of the game at the zones by maintaining the top clubs while still enabling players to be scouted by professional clubs and national selectors.
Some of the objectives for the Champions League include; promoting and heightening inter-Association club competition without directly removing the club from the respective Regional Associations; providing an avenue for the development of the sport that will have a direct impact on the game at the regional level; providing additional incentives annually for clubs competing at the regional level, by clubs having to qualify yearly; providing an avenue for clubs to gain revenue and; reducing direct and indirect costs endured by clubs campaigning in the NSL.
In its proposal the TFA explained the format of the Champions League will capture the interest of spectators worldwide and given the geographical divide of the regional bodies, it will hold the interest of regional players and spectators.
They are suggesting the format follow the general structure of the UEFA champion’s league but with 24 clubs from six zones with no region having more than four teams. The TFA is also suggesting that qualification for this tournament be determined by the T&C committee of the TTFA.
They recommend that the CL be held in a round robin fomat with six groups of four teams where each team will play one another on a home and away basis with the top two advancing.
The Inter Zone will also be a round robin play-off to satisfy objectives such as providing a higher level of football for the best players in the regions; bridging the gap between regional football, pro-League and/or national teams; providing national selectors with an opportunity to view top regional players and increasing inter-zone rivalry at every level.

Santa Rosa stay top in Super League

SPORTS AND Games FC Santa Rosa remained in the top spot of the National Super League Premiership Division after Match Day Seven action on Sunday.
Santa Rosa were held to a goalless draw by Police at the St James Barracks, but they still managed to maintain their lead.
However Club Sando Moruga moved up two places to second after they pipped Guaya United 2-1 at the Grand Chemin Recreation Ground.
Donrick Mascall broke the deadlock for Club Sando Moruga after 16 minutes but Kieron James equalised in the 59th for Guaya. But the hosts secured full points when Glendon Phillip found the back of the net in the 71st.
Petrotrin Palo Seco slipped one spot to third after they battled to a 0-0 draw with Real Maracas at the Maracas Valley Recreation Ground, while WASA moved up one place to fourth after a 3-2 victory over Matura ReUnited at the WASA Ground, St Joseph.
WASA took a 3-0 half-time lead with a double from Glen Walker (24th and 45th) and an own goal from Kern Joseph (41st). Matura responded with items from Kerin Vincent (78th) and Brendon Figuera (83rd) but WASA held on to their lead until the final whistle.
Marabella Family Crisis Centre jumped from 11th to eighth after a comfortable 3-0 win over Siparia Spurs at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium Training Field in Marabella.
Dwayne Ed wards (16th), Kevin Moodie (29th) and Juma Clarence (65th) were the goal-getters for the hosts.
Defence Force got the better of Tobago Phoenix FC 1976 by a 4-3 margin at the Defence Force headquarters in Chaguaramas.
Josimar Belgrave netted a double for Defence Force, in the 54th and 61st, while Marlon Laidlow (20th) and Javon Neptune (70th) were the other goal-getters. For Phoenix, Jabarry Francis (34th and 58th) notched a pair while L’Che Edwards (90th) got the other.
In the other scheduled game on Sunday, Queen’s Park came from a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2 with Bethel United at the St Mary’s Ground in St Clair. Kevon Woodley (46th and 51st) got both goals for Bethel but the Parkites responded with a double from Alex Knaggs (57th and 81st). Action on Match Day Eight will be contested on July 31.

Santa Rosa stay top in Super League

Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa maintained their lead in the NGC Super League Premier Division on Sunday, but they were made to work by third-placed Matura Re United, who held them to a 3-3 draw when action in the competition continued over the weekend.
Rashad Griffith scored a hat-trick for the “Cannons” but it was not enough for the win, as Matura managed to equalise in the 56th minute and hold on for the draw. The win sees the Arima-based team stay top on goal difference.
Kerin Vincent opened the scoring in the 12th minute for Matura, however Griffith equalised ten minutes later, and then sent his team into the lead with two goals in the 47th and 52nd minutes.
Matura however pulled one back in the 54th minute through Vincent once more and Shervin Charles grabbed the equaliser two minutes later.
Second-placed Club Sando Moruga also managed a draw when they took on 1976 FC Phoenix. LeJandro Williams sent Phoenix into the lead on the half hour, and Dareem Remkhalawan restored parity in the 42nd minute for Club Sando.
Last season’s runners-up Guaya United FC enjoyed a 4-2 win over Siparia Spurs with Carlos Hughes netting a hattrick (24th, 33rd and 82nd), while Jody Allsop (72nd), scored the fourth item. Deon Collins (38th) and Kyle Thomas (71st) scored for Spurs.
Bethel United whipped WASA FC 4-0 with Densyl James (53rd), Jevon Williams (73rd), Kevonn Adams (83rd) and Travis Winchester getting on the scorecards. And Real Maracas FC enjoyed a 2-0 win over Police FC thanks to strikes from Ryan Stewart (53rd and 83rd).
Reigning champions Defence Force edged Petrotrin Palo Seco 4-3. Dexter Thornhill (25th) and Josimar Belgrave (45th, 74th and 81st) scored for the “Army” while Wayne Huyghue (34th and 41st) and Bevon Bass (71st) scored for Petrotrin.
Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) were finally able to enjoy a win when they saw their way past Marabella Family Crisis Centre 3-1, with Kevaughn John (9th and 27th) and Jared Bennett (63rd) getting on the scoresheet.

Santa Rosa edge Parkites in seven-goal thriller

SPORTS AND Games FC Santa Rosa edged Queen’s Park 4-3 on Sunday, to remain atop the 14-team standings in the National Super League Premiership Division.
In a Match Day 13 contest at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Santa Rosa got a pair of goals from Rashad Griffith (second and 33rd minutes), as well as one apiece from Keron Clarke (46th) and Keston Henry (62nd).
Finding the back of the net for the Parkites were Jason Devenish (26th), Kevaughn John (57th) and Trevon Mitchell (71st).
With the result, Santa Rosa have a tally of 27 points, three more than Club Sando Moruga, who fell to a 2-0 loss to Petrotrin Palo Seco at the Palo Seco Velodrome.
Nkosi Simon (49th) and Bevon Bass (53rd) were the goal-getters for Palo Seco, who moved up a notch to third place.
The biggest margin of victory occurred at the Mt Gomery Recreation Ground, with Bethel United crushing cellar-placed Marabella Family Crisis Centre 5-1. Travis Winchester (fifth and 72nd) and Kevon Woodley (42nd and 89th) notched two goals apiece, while Kevon Adams (32nd) got the other for Bethel, after they conceded a second minute goal from Ghmyo Harper.
Guaya United also overcame an early setback to trounce Matura ReUnited 4-1 at the New Lands Ground in Guayaguayare.
Kerin Vincent broke the deadlock for Matura in the 40th but Guaya responded with a double from Carlon Hughes (45th and 75th) and one each from Cio Morris (59th) and Cleveland Jordan (81st).
In a clash of struggling teams, Siparia Spurs got past Real Maracas 4-2 at Irwin Park, Siparia. Andy London (44th and 52nd) scored twice for the hosts, while Kyle Thomas (42nd) and Chris Collins (46th) chipped in with one each. Real Maracas pulled back two goals, from Ryan Stewart (60th) and Keron Bethelmy (64th).
Reigning champs Defence Force and WASA battled to a 1-1 draw at the WASA Ground in St Joseph. Josimar Belgrave netted for Defence Force in the 31st, but WASA levelled the scores in the 75th through Nathan Julien.
Tobago FC Phoenix 1976 and Police played to a 1-1 draw at the Canaan Recreation Ground. Dwayne Salazar scored for the lawmen in the 73rd but Trevonne James equalised four minutes later
UTT crush Petit Valley/Diego Martin 4-1

ISAIAH MEJIAS scored a pair as the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) crushed Petit Valley/Diego Martin FC 4-1 on Saturday, in the Championship Division of the National Super League.
In one of four rescheduled Match Day Two encounters, at the UTT O’Meara campus in Arima, Mejias got his name on the scoresheet in the second and 59th minutes, while Jamal Creighton (32nd) and Shaquille Smith (88th) were the other goal-getters for the hosts.
An own goal, in the third minute of second half stoppage time, prevented a clean sheet for the UTT squad, who notched their fourth win of the season.
Carenage United moved up three places to third after a narrow 1-0 win away to Youth Stars at the Cyd Gray Ground in Roxborough. Kendell Baptiste was on target for the visitors, in the 22nd. The other two games on the day ended with 1-1 scorelines.
In the meeting of former leaders Barrackpore United and Saddle Hill Hotspur at the Barrackpore Recreation Ground, Mikheil Peters put Barrackpore ahead in the seventh minute but ex-national striker Hector Sam equalised in the 61st.
And, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, TT Prisons FC took the lead against Cunupia FC through Anthony Parris, in the 22nd, but Dillon Walker knotted the scores in the 43rd.

Henry rescues a point for Santa Rosa

Keston Henry scored with five minutes left on the clock to salvage a 2-2 draw for FC Santa Rosa against 1976 FC Phoenix when matches in the T&T Football Association National Super League Premier Division resumed on Sunday.
Going into the match at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Santa Rosa held a three points lead over Club Sando Moruga while Phoenix was seventh, 11 points behind.
But despite their placing on the 15-team table, Phoenix was first to strike via Dominic Mc Dougall in the 16th minute, before Rashad Griffith replied for Santa Rosa in the 34th, only for Mc Dougall to get his second our minutes later for a 2-1 half-time lead.
The visitors from Tobago looked on course for a shock win over the table toppers, however, with five minutes left on the clock, Henry grabbed an equaliser for Santa Rosa to improve to 28 points from 14 matches, only one more than Club Sando Moruga which left it late to pick up a 3-2 win over WASA FC thanks to a hat-trick from Nigel John.
John put Club Sando Moruga ahead in the tenth minute, but WASA hit back through Glen Walker in the 30th and then Akil Thomas, five minute into the second-half for 2-1 lead.
Spurred on by the home crowd, Club Sando Moruga rallied late for all three points with John drawing his team level in the 75th, followed by his winner a minute before the final whistle.
Third placed Petrotrin Palo Seco is three points off the top after a last gasp 2-1 in over cellar-placed Marabella Family Crisis Centre while defending champions Defence Force and Matura Re United are both locked on 23 points in fourth spot after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
In other matches, Kenwin Matthew netted twice for Police to trounce Bethel United 3-0, Siparia Spurs pipped Queen's Park Cricket Club 3-2behind a double from Andy London, and Real Maracas edged Guaya United 1-0 courtesy a 90th minute Marvin Oliver strike.
Tomorrow (Wednesday), the second round of the blink/bmobile knockout competition will resume with defending champion Guaya United facing Championship Division leader, University of T&T in one of the key matches.

National Super League kicks off with $250,000 sponsorship deal

All Sports Promotions Director, Anthony Harford made the announcement at a press conference on Monday, explaining that after a brief hiatus, blink | bmobile has once again agreed to continue its nine-year relationship with the league. Harford thanked the company for its support, particularly given the challenging economic times.
“Please accept my thanks and that of All Sport and on behalf of all the teams,” said Harford to TSTT’s senior manager Brand, Public Relations and External Affairs, Graeme Suite who was present for the announcement. “Sponsorship is very hard to come by; this year was particularly challenging, and we warmly welcome TSTT back.”
While Harford said he was unable to announce when the finals will take place, as is customary, due to conflicting national team schedules, he explained that nine clubs had already qualified for the knockout stage, while 14 would start the first round for advancement on Wednesday. Defending champions Guaya United have found themselves in the list of 14 vying for a second round berth.
He also shared that as part of blink | bmobile’s sponsorship, the finals will be taped for airing on local television. “In an effort to try and build the quality of the affair and people’s awareness of the Super League, we have decided this year, with TSTT’s help to videotape the entire final and condense it into a programme that gives the national community, those who don’t attend the final, a decent opportunity to see the quality of football that is played in the blink | bmobile Super League.” said Harford.
Speaking on behalf of blink | bmobile, Suite said the company was pleased to continue its partnership with the National Super League and looked forward to building on its success over the years. “We appreciate the role the league plays in the overall ecosystem for football in Trinidad and Tobago in terms of nurturing talent and identifying potential and we want to continue to have a role in that,” said Suite.
“We recently facilitated training camps for young players in the Gally Cummings Finishing Academy over the last two months as we recognise the sport opens many doors for young people who are committed to really working hard on becoming the best that they can be. The Super League is an extension of our commitment to the sport and to the players. We are really grateful for the opportunity that All Sports has given us and we have all the confidence in the way the league has always been administered over the years and we are very proud that he has considered us to be a worthwhile partner to maintain the league.”

Stoute brace sees Cunupia past Saddle Hill

STEVON STOUTE scored a pair as Cunupia FC trounced Saddle Hill Hotspur 6-2 on Saturday, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, in a National Super League Championship Division Match Day 10 contest.
Saddle Hill opened the scoring in the second minute through Cyrano Glen but Cunupia replied with three goals in the first half, from Dellon Jaggasar in the 19th minute, Jonathan Marcelle in the 23rd and Stoute in the 42nd.
Kevon Durham trimmed the lead to 3-2 when he scored in the 64th, but Stoute restored the twogoal advantage in the 79th.
Gorean Highley found the back of the net in the 83rd and Michael Yaw Darko ended the scoring avalanche with a strike in the 90th.
The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) remained in first place, despite being held to a 1-1 draw by TT Prisons FC at the UTT O’Meara campus in Arima.
Dillon Bartholomew put UTT ahead in the 73rd but Kerry Frederick ensured that there would be a share of the points when he equalised in the 90th.
Barrackpore United earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Carenage United at the Barrackpore Recreation Ground.
Curtis Carrington gave the hosts a 13th minute lead but Clint Williams levelled the scores in the 88th.
The game seemed destined for a draw until Carrington notched the winner, in stoppage time.
In the day’s other fixture, Central 500 Spartans and Petit Valley/ Diego Martin United FC played to an entertaining 4-4 draw at the Hugo Francis Recreation Ground, Chaguanas.
Calvi Grazette (second), Donovan Derrick (31st), Keith Williams (35th) and Josiah Grazette (50th) were the goal-getters for Central 500 while Eric Charles (seventh and 58th), Anthony Joseph (52nd) and Curtis Smith (78th) replied for Petit Valley/Diego Martin.

Cunupia moves ahead in Super League.

Gorean Highley and Michael Yaw Darko scored a goal each to lead Cunupia FC to a 2-0 win over T&T Prisons FC and top spot in the T&T Football Association National Super League Championship Division on Saturday.
Highley, a former Digicel T&T Pro League standout at the now defunct Joe Public, W Connection and Ma Pau Stars (formerly North East Stars) opened the scoring in the tenth minute while Yaw Darko added the other two minutes before the half-time whistle at the Youth Training Centre, Ground, Arouca.
With the win, Cunupia FC moved to 19 points from ten matches, one ahead of previous leader, University of T&T which suffered a shock 3-2 loss at cellar-placed Petit Valley/Diego Martin United.
From as early as the fourth minute, the host sounded their intentions to play spoilers when Eric Charles opened the scoirng, but UTT got back on level terms in the 22nd minute at Diego Martin North Secondary School Ground when Isaiah Mejias netted.
However, within three minutes, Samuel Delice restored the lead which it took into the break 2-1.
Seven minutes after the restart, Weah Adams equalised for UTT for a second time but Delice was in no mood to see his team drop two valuable points, and regained the lead in the 56th which they held on to until the final whistle as they seek to avoid the drop.
Despite the win, Petit Valley/Diego Martin stayed bottom of the table with eight points, from ten matches, the same as last year’s runner-up, T&T Prison Service.
At Pascal Recreation Ground, Diego Martin, Saddle Hill Hotspur denied Barrackpore United from going top, with a 3-1 upset.
The southerners looked set for all three points when Mikheil Peters scored after only four minutes, which they took into the break.
But after the re-start it was all Hotspurs as Cyrano Glen, the brother of former national striker Cornell Glen drew his team level in the 49th before he added a second in the 67th followed by an insure item from Hakeem King, eight minutes from the final whistle to ensure victory.
The win lifted Hotspurs to ten points from nine matches, while Barrackpore stayed third with 17, the same as Central 500 Spartans, who have a match in hand.
Up at Dibe Recreation Ground, Long Circular, there was no such hiccup as Youth Stars inspired by a hat-trick from Hakeem Legall blasted the faltering Carenage United 8-1.
Legall got his goals in the eight, 82nd and 88th to move ahead in the goalscoring title race with 11, two ahead of Peters, Yaw Darko and Stevon Stoute, while Jelani Mitchell chipped in with a double, and Henson Charles and Ackeel Sterling one each.
Carenage United also conceded an own goal, while Clint Williams got its consolation item.

Clarke keeps Santa Rosa out front.

Keron Clarke continued his good scoring form with another double to lead Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa to a comfortable 3-0 defeat of WASA FC in the T&T National Super League Premier Division on Sunday.
After a 0-0 first 45 minutes, Kevon Cornwall opened the scoring for Santa Rosa at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya before Clarke netted in the 70th and 89th minute to carry his season tally to ten goals, 11 shy of leader Josimar Belgrave.
The victory lifted Santa Rosa to 37 points from 17 matches, five ahead of defending champions Defence Force which needed a late Belgrave brace to get past Marabella Family Crisis Centre.
Cellar-placed Marabella stunned the title chasers when former national youth striker Juma Clarence fired in the go-ahead item in the 40th, but Belgrave came to his team's rescue, first in the 87th minute, and then a minute into time added on to snatch victory.
Club Sando Moruga slipped to third with 31 points, after it was held to a 2-2 draw by Police FC while Matura Re United got back on track courtesy a 4-1 thumping of 1976 FC Phoenix.
In other matches, Real Maracas spanked Queen's Park Cricket Club 4-2; Guaya United outclassed Bethel United 4-1, and Siparia Spurs outgunned Petrotrin Palo Seco 5-4.

Cornwall keeps Santa Rosa on course for double.

Kevon Cornwall kept Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa on course to do the double in the T&T Football Association National Super League when his late strike earned a 2-1 win over the University of T&T in their blink/bmobile knockout quarterfinal at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya on Wednesday night.
Leaders of the 15-team Premier Division table, Santa Rosa was made to work hard against the Championship Division outfit before taking a 44th minute lead through Rashad Griffith into the break.
However, UTT, which dumped last year's tournament winner, Guaya United in the round-of-16 battled its way back and drew level in the 78th thanks to J'Deem Parris, only for Cornwall to bang in the decisive item for Santa Rosa eight minutes later to set up a semifinal meeting with Bethel United at Mt Pleasant Recreation, Tobago on Wednesday from 7.30 pm.
Over at the Cyd Gray Sports Complex, Roxborough, Teejay Cadiz’s 59th strike was enough to earn Bethel United a shock 1-0 win over fellow Tobago club Youth Stars. Also on Tuesday at Mt Pleasant, Tobago, Police FC will come up against 1976 FC Phoenix from 5pm in the first semifinal.
This after former national midfielder Trent Noel's 85th minute item secured a 2-1 win for the Lawmen over host Petrotrin Palo Seco at the Palo Seco Municipal Stadium, Palo Seco.
Real Didier had given Police FC the lead in the 32nd, but another former national midfielder Romauld Aguillera equalised for Petrotrin Palo Seco in the 77th, only for Noel to hit the winner for the visitors, eight minutes later.
And at Dibe Recreation Ground, Long Circular, St James, visitors 1976 Fc Phoenix got a goal each from David Dominic Mc Dougall, Dominique Kerr and Trevonne James in a 3-1 come-from-behind defeat of Carenage United which got its lone item from Curtis Noel in the 62nd.
The winners of the knockout competition will collect $100,00; second gets $50,000 and the two losing semifinalists, $25,000 each. League action resumes in the Championship and Premier Division on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Super League knockout semis at Mt Pleasant

THE MT Pleasant Ground in the sister isle of Tobago is the venue for the semi-final round of the blink/bmobile National Super League Knockout competition which kicks off today.
Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa, leaders of the Premiership Division, will square off against Bethel United, who are 13th in the Premiership, in the first semi-final today at 5 pm.
Santa Rosa have surged to the top of the standings in the league and maintained their lead over the past weeks.
Their ambition remains two titles and will look to keep alive their hopes today and go one step closer to filling their trophy cabinet.
And, at 7.30 pm, 1976 FC Phoenix (ninth-placed in the Premiership) will oppose Police, who are currently sixth in the Premiership table.

Siparia Spurs spank WASA FC

THE FIVE-POINT lead held by FC Santa Rosa over Defence Force remained intact after Sunday’s slate of games, on Match Day 18 of the National Super League Premiership Division.
Santa Rosa edged third-placed Club Sando Moruga 1-0 while Defence Force earned a similar result over the struggling Queen’s Park.
At the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Santa Rosa got a 53rd minute goal from Rashad Griffith to notch their 12th victory of the season while, at the St Mary’s College Ground in St Clair, the prolific Josimar Belgrave found the back of the net in the 45th minute to seal three points for the Army-Coast Guard combination.
Santa Rosa have a total of 40 points from 18 games, while Defence Force have 35 from 18.
Siparia Spurs climbed from sixth to fourth after a 5-2 spanking of WASA FC at Irwin Park in Siparia.
Marvin Seuradge and Andy London notched two goals apiece for Siparia - Seuradge got his name on the scoresheet in the 18th and 31st minutes, while London netted in the 25th and 36th. And Chris Collins scored Siparia’s fifth, in the 42nd.
WASA got items from Glen Walker and Keston Jordan, in the 22nd and 49th minutes respectively.
Police overcame an early scare from table-proppers Marabella Family Crisis Centre to prevail 2-1 at the St James Barracks.
Marabella took the lead through an own goal, after four minutes, but ex-Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Trent Noel equalised in the 10th and Kenwin Matthew notched the winner in the 70th.
In a high-scoring affair at the New Lands Ground in Guayaguayare, hosts Guaya United overcame a combative Petrotrin Palo Seco 4-3.
The Palo Seco outfit had a 2-0 lead with strikes from Angus John (eighth) and Renefor Martin (24th) before Carlon Hughes tied the scores with a double, in the 30th and 35th.
John restored Palo Seco’s lead in the 47th but there was a final twist to the tale, as Akeel Paul struck in the 69th and 90th minutes to give Guaya a hard-fought win.
1976 FC Phoenix and Bethel United each registered victories over Real Maracas and Matura Re- United 3-1 respectively.
At the Canaan Recreation Ground, Phoenix took care of Maracas, with a double from Dominique Kerr (37th and 48th) and one from Lejandro Williams (85th). Ryan Stewart got the consolation for Maracas, in the 40th.
At the Mt Gomery Recreation Ground, Bethel United were rewarded with goals from Rohan Sebro (10th), Teejay Cadiz (20th) and Kevon Woodley (85th), while Kerin Vincent replied for Matura in the 44th.

Bethel United stuns Santa Rosa in KO semis…meets Police in $100,000 final

Teejay Cadiz fired in the decisive item as lowly Premier Division club Bethel United stunned visitor and table leader Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa 2-1 in their T&T Football Association National Super League blink/bmobile knockout semifinal at Mt Pleasant Recreation Ground on Wednesday night.
Going into the contest, Santa Rosa, which holds a five-point lead over defending champion Defence Force in the Premier Division title race was heavy favourites but after the first 45 minutes, found itself still level at the break with Bethel United, third from bottom of the 14-team table.
Three minutes after the restart, Bethel took a shock lead through national beach football player Kevon Woodley. But that lead only lasted a few seconds as Keron Clarke drew Santa Rosa, level almost from the restart.
Nine minutes later, Cadiz then regained the narrow advantage for Bethel United which it held on to until the final whistle to set up a meeting with Police FC in the final.
In the second match at Mt Pleasant, the “Lawmen” avoided an all-Tobago final by blanking 1976 FC Phoenix 2-0 with a goal apiece from Real Didier in the 44th and Jason Boodram, in the 77th.
The winner of the knockout final will take home $100,000 and the loser will collect $50,000 while Santa Rosa and Phoenix, as losing semifinalist will each get $25,000.
League action will resume in the Championship and Premier Division on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Super League introduces water-breaks at matches

The TTFA’s Blink|BMobile National Super League will be introducing water breaks at its matches in light of the current conditions throughout the country.
In a statement from League organisers All Sports Promotions representative Richard Piper, he explained: “In light of the recent decision to have game being played at venues without approved lighting systems to kick off at 3.30pm, the legitimate concern was raised about the safety of all our stakeholders due the sweltering heat in the early afternoon period which has forced us to institute the following WATER BREAK interval based on the Match Day Procedure which is identified below:
1. It must be agreed upon by ALL PARTIES involved in the game (Match Commissioner, Referees and Both Clubs) prior to kick off as being necessary,
2. There should be a break in either half of the game (after the 25th Minute – 1st half and 75th Minute – 2nd half) not to exceed two (2) minutes on each occasion and must be done during a stoppage in the game. The game is not to be stopped specifically to facilitate the Water Break.
3. On field Players are not allowed the leave the field of play during this stoppage.
4. Only Members of the Technical Staff of the Club are allowed to facilitate the re-hydration process of the on field players. Substitutes MUST remain on the bench and not be part of the process.
5. The Members of the Technical Staff involved in the process MUST remain in their respective Technical Areas.
6. The game shall be restarted by the Referee in accordance with the Laws of The Game.
Keeping in mind that the above is be observed only once agreed upon by all participants to be necessary.

‘Big Cannons’ draw but lead in Super League

Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa spurned a golden opportunity to increase its lead atop the National Super League standings by three points on Sunday when the Big Cannons drew 2-2 with last placed Marabella Family Crisis Centre at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.
‘The Big Cannons’ opened the scoring from the prolific Rashad Griffith from the penalty spot after 14 minutes but they could do nothing but admire the equalizer, which ironically came 14 minutes later, from a well struck free kick from former national midfielder Andre Pacheco. The goal sent both teams to the dressing rooms tied at one with everything to play for thereafter.
However only five minutes had gone after the break and ‘The Big Cannons’ restored their advantage when Kevon Cornwall found the nets.
But again the southerners fought hard with relegation staring them in the face, to equalize from Juma Clarence in the 66th minute, and earn a share of the points in a game that many felt would have gone to the Arima based team.
‘The Big Cannons’ still maintain a six-point lead on the standing on 41 points with defending champions T&T Defence Force squandering the opportunity to reduce that margin, by going down surprisingly to Police FC 1-2.
The Army Coast-Guard combination on 35 points, thought they were on their way to reducing the gap held by Santa Rosa to three points, but were let down by an early blunder in defence that allowed Chase Sealy to fire the ‘Lawmen’ in front after 13 minutes.
Later, they were back on level terms after Jamaal Goodridge found the net in the 44th minute to get their mission back on track. However Jason Boodram spoiled their plans when he sealed the win for Police five minutes from the end. The result pushed the ‘lawmen’ into fifth position on 29 points where they will relish their next meeting with third-from-bottom Bethel United at 6pm tomorrow at the Mt Pleasant, Tobago.
In another game, Siparia Spurs moved to third when they shut-out Club Sando Moruga 3-1, courtesy a double strike by Keston London in the 35th and 57th minutes and another goal from Chris Collins in the 41st. Club Sando’s lone item came off the boot of Jesse Edwards in the 63rd.
Meanwhile last year’s second place team Guaya United were also in winner’s row at the weekend when they defeated WASA FC 5-3 while Petrotrin Palo Seco and Matura Re United shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
Tenth placed Real Maracas and Bethel also split the points in a 1-1 draw while Queen’s Park CC got goals from Nasir Rodriguez and Shane Camps in another 2-2 stalemate with 1976 FC Phoenix.
The Tobagonians got a double from Dominique Kerr in the 54th and 90th minutes.

Bethel, Police to contest final today

BETHEL UNITED and Police will contest the final of the Blink/Bmobile National Super League Knockout Tournament today at the Mt Pleasant Ground in the sister isle Tobago at 6 pm.
In last Wednesday’s semi-finals, also at Mt Pleasant, Bethel United eliminated the fancied Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa 2-1 while Police brushed aside 1976 FC Phoenix 2-0.
The winners of today’s final will get the $100,000 jackpot while the runners-up will earn $50,000.
The beaten semi-finalists - Santa Rosa and Phoenix, will each receive $25,000.

Bethel United crowned Super League Knockout champs

BETHEL UNITED sent Police FC back to Trinidad empty-handed on Wednesday at the Mt Pleasant Ground, beating them 3-2 to win their first ever National Super League Knockout title and pocket $100,000 in a pulsating final that needed extra time to decide a winner.
Playing at “home” in front of a partisan crowd, Bethel had the chance to win the game in normal time but threw away a late second half penalty.
Their profligacy did not come back to haunt them though, with a stunning extra time performance that blew away Police.
Bethel went into the match as the underdogs to a Police team that have been in good form over their recent games and had beaten them twice in league play already.
It was Bethel who started the game with greater urgency though and they were soon rewarded in the fourth minute when Densyl James put the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Police levelled the scores in the 39th minute courtesy Dwayne Salazar as the teams went into the half at one goal apiece.
In the second half, Bethel kept up the pressure but had missed a few good opportunities the team created.
Police held their own but it was Bethel who had the golden opportunity to secure the title with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the game when a Police defender committed a foul in the box and the referee blew his whistle for a penalty kick.
As the Bethel player stepped up and the crowd waited in anticipation, the Police goalkeeper dived to his right and made the save to keep the home supporters quiet.
The game ended 1-1 in regulation time and it was on to extra time.
Bethel were again the aggressors and James added his second item in the second minute of the first extra period while Dwane Marcelle made it 3-1 in the 106th minute to spark wild celebrations.
Police pulled one back through an own goal by Omarr Charles in the 110th minute but they could not stop Bethel from creating history.
Marcelle takes Bethel to $100,000 title.

Dwane Marcelle netted in the first minute of second-half extra-time as Bethel United completed its dream run in the T&T Football Association National Super League blink/bmobile knockout competition with a 3-2 win over Police FC at Mt Pleasant Recreation Ground on Wednesday.
Both teams were locked at 1-1 at the end of the 90 minutes of regulation time with Densyl James fourth minute opener for Bethel United being canceled out by Dwayne Salazar’s 39th equaliser.
However, both teams failed to find a winner in the second-half, and two minutes into extra-time James got his second to restore Bethel lead’s at 2-1 which it carried into the extra-time break.
A minute into the final extra-time period, Marcelle extended the advantage to 3-1, but with five minutes left, Bethel then conceded an own-goal as Police clawed back to within a goal.
In the end, the Premier Division strugglers were able to hang onto their narrow advantage to take home the $100,000 winners cheque while Police had to settle for $50,000.
Last week in the semifinals, Teejay Cadiz fired in the decisive item for Bethel United to stun Premier Division table leaders Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa 2-1 also at Mt Pleasant.
Bethel led through national beach football player Kevon Woodley, but it only lasted a few seconds as Keron Clarke drew Santa Rosa, level almost from the restart, before Cadiz got the winner.
The “Lawmen” avoided an all-Tobago final by blanking 1976 FC Phoenix 2-0 with a goal apiece from Real Didier in the 44th, and Jason Boodram, in the 77th. Santa Rosa and Phoenix, as losing semifinalist will each get $25,000.
League action will resumes in the Championship and Premier Division on Saturday November 5 and Sunday November 6, respectively.

Police stuns Santa Rosa in heated battle

Kareem Perry fired in an 83rd minute winner as Police FC stunned leaders FC Santa Rosa 2-1 in a heated contest in the T&T Football Association National Super League Premier Division at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya on Sunday.
The Lawmen took the lead in the 34th minute but Santa Rosa drew level thanks to an own goal in the 66th before Perry banged in the winner with seven minutes left on the club.
However, the match was marred by a mini-brawl involving players from both clubs. Four yellow-cards, two for Santa Rosa, and Police FC’s Nykell James, the second of which came in the 87th.
Despite the loss, Santa Rosa remained top of the 14-team table with 41 points, three more than defending champions, Defence Force which won by a similar, 2-1 margin over 1976 FC Phoenix at Canaan Recreation Ground, Bon Accord, Tobago while Police FC is now third with 32 points, the same as Club Sando Moruga, but with a match in hand.
Phoenix took the lead two minutes before the break through Dominique Kerr, only for Josimar Belgrave to fire in his league leading 23rd item of the campaign to get Defence Force.
Ronald “Sharky” St Louis then got the decisive item for Defence Force in the 79th minute after which they held on for the valauble win to close to within two points with six matches left for both teams and the top two teams set to meet on Sunday at Chaguaramas.
In other matches, Club Sando Moruga and last year’s runner-up Guaya United drew 1-1; Petrotrin Palo Seco and Real Maracas Fc fought out a 4-4 draw; Matura Re United and WASA FC drew goalless; Queen’s Park Cricket Club and Bethel United drew 2-2, and Marabella Family Crisis Centre spanked Siparia Spurs, 4-2.

Leaders Cunupia suffer shock defeat

CUNUPIA FC remained at the top of the standings, despite a shock 2-1 defeat to the struggling Petit Valley/Diego Martin United at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva on Sunday.
Action was in Match Day 15 of the National Super League Championship Division.
Cunupia have 25 points from 13 games, with Central 500 Spartans next on 23 while both the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT ) and Saddle Hill Hotspur have 22 each.
At the Ato Boldon Stadium, Petit Valley/ Diego Martin broke the deadlock in the 39th minute through Eric Charles, while Anthony Joseph extended the lead in the 56th.
Taurean Sobers pulled one back for Cunupia in the 60th but the hosts were unable to notch the equaliser.
Meanwhile, Central 500 Spartans hammered Youth Stars 4-1 at the Hugo Francis Recreation Ground in Chaguanas.
Also on Saturday, Saddle Hill brushed aside TT Prisons FC 4-0 at the Pascal Recreation Ground in Maraval.
Kevon Durham got a pair, in the 23rd and 90th, while Andre Rampersad (28th) and Cyrano Glen (41st) chipped in with one apiece.
UTT and Barrackpore United played to a 1-1 draw at the UTT O’Meara campus in Arima.
Kevaughn Connell struck for UTT in the 19th but Akil Charles evened up the scores in the 53rd.

Look Loy wants best referees for Army clash

Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa coach Keith Look Loy is appealing for the best referees to be appointed when his team meets current champions Defence Force in the National Super League on Sunday at Defence Force Headquarters, Chaguaramas, from 3.30 pm.
Look Loy’s call came after last weekend’s defeat by Police FC 1-2 in a match he described as one of his better performances for the season. In spite of the loss, however, the ‘Big Cannons’ as they are affectionately being called, have remained in the leadership spot in the Premiership Division with 41 points from 20 matches, while the Army/Coast Guard combination holds second on 38.
The former national coach yesterday said he raised concerns over the selection of officials by those responsible for doing so recently and still has those fears, noting he expects a very difficult match against the Army.
According to Look Loy, in the last match against the Army they appointed a soldier to officiate and it was only changed when his team objected to it.
The ‘Big Cannons’ eventually won the match 4-1 but Look Loy is hoping for good sense to prevail in appointing referees for Sunday’s game, saying: “As it was in the first game, this is a match between the first placed team and the second placed team and they need to send their best referees to do this game. I am very fearful and very hopeful that they do not make, what you call a regular appointment.”
The “Big Cannons’” chief cook and bottle-washer, pointed out that there was a particular referee in the North Zone who apparently is a favourite in the base and who gets a lot of matches involving the Army Coast Guard. “We don’t need that in this match. What we need is a fair game from a good team of referees who would allow the players to settle it on the field, so once again, I am appealing to the authorities to do the right thing and give us the best panel of referees on the day,” Look Loy pleaded.
In pointing out his observation following the Police encounter, Look Loy said the people enthrusted with the responsibility of selecting referees, have been sending referees from the zones where particular teams reside. He added: “These referees have been coming to matches with a mission. Our boys have been putting out a lot of effort, playing well but the outcomes have been determined by the referees.”
Apart from the Army/Santa Rosa encounter, third placed Police will be up against Siparia Spurs at the Police Barracks and fourth Club Sando Moruga will clash with Matura Re-United at the Grand Chemin Recreation Ground.
In other matches newcomers Queen’s Park will have a date with Petrotrin Palo Seco at Queen’s Royal College ground; 1976 FC Phoenix meets Bethel United at Canaan Recreation Ground; Guaya United are up against Marabella Family Crisis Centre at Guaracara Park and Real Maracas and WASA to tangle at Maracas Valley Ground. All matches will be played on Sunday.

Defending champions Defence Force blew a two goal lead and also missed a glorious chance to draw level at the top of the National Super League Premier Division after drawing 2-2 with leaders Sports & Games F.C. Santa Rosa at the Ato Boldon stadium, Couva.
Akil Morris (39th) AND Keston Williams (41st.) scored within a four-minute stretch near the end of the first half to see the Army comfortably ahead 2-0 at the end of the first half, before the long-time league leaders battled back in the second half with goals from Kevon Cornwall (62nd) and Keron Clarke (79th ).

Connell keeps UTT ahead on goal-difference.

Kevaughn Connell scored with eight minutes left on the clock as the University of T&T (UTT) salvaged a 2-2 draw with Cunupia FA to remain top of the T&T Football Association National Super League Championship Division on goal-difference.
Early on at UTT Ground, O’Meara Road, Arima on↔Saturday night, it was the host UTT which began brightly and took a third minute lead through Dillon Bartholomew.
However, on the half-hour mark, Shervon Edwards replied for Cunupia and seven minutes later, the visitors went ahead courtesy a strike from Dellin Jaggasar to lead 2-1 at the interval.
The second-half was an evenly matched contest throughout and just when it seem Cunupia would hang on for the valuable three points and top spot on the table, Connell grabbed an 82nd minute equaliser for UTT.
With the point earned UTT improved to 26 from 14 matches, the same as Cunupia FC and Central 500 Spartans, while Saddle Hill Hotspur, is next with 25, with all four clubs having two matches left to play, and with only the champions gaining promotion.
At the Hugo Francis Recreation Ground, Chaguanas, Spartans held off Barrackpore United SC 2-1.
Husani Thomas netted in the 28th minute and Donavon Derrick, three minutes later, with his tenth of the campaign for Spartans to lead 2-0 while Mikheil Peters pulled one back for Barrackpore in the 50th, with his 11th of the season, two behind division leader Hakeem Legall of Youth Stars.
But that was as close at Barrackpore would get as its title and promotion challenge faded with the loss.
In the other match on schedule Petit Valley/Diego Martin United moved out of the relegation zone with a win by default over already relegated Carenage United.
Petit Valley/Diego Martin United now has 17 points from 15 matches, two ahead of Youth Stars which has only played 13 matches, while T&T Prisons FC and Carenage United have 11 points each from 12 and 14 matches respectively.
The match between T&T Prisons and Youth↔Stars carded for YTC Ground, Arouca on Saturday was re-scheduled.

Carenage withdraw from Super League.
T&T Express Reports.
Organisers of the National Super League have announced that all results of matches played against Carenage United in the Championship Division of the National Super League have been nullified, after the club officially withdrew from the competition recently.
“As such, in fairness to the other participating clubs, the League has made the decision to nullify the results of all Carenage’s games played or not played in round two of the league competition,” the Super League said in a news release. As such, both the League standings and the remaining fixtures to complete it had to be altered, based on the development.
In related news, T&T Prison Service F.C. were awarded three points and three goals for the game versus Youth Stars that was not played.

Cunupia FC edges Spartans to close in on title.

Cunupia FC inched closer to lifting the T&T Football Association National Super League Championship Division title after earning hard fought 3-2 win over Central 500 Spartans at Hugo Francis Recreation Ground, Chaguanas, on Saturday night.
With the win, Cunupia FC ended its campaign with 29 points from 15 matches, six ahead of the University of T&T and Spartans while Saddle Hill Hotspur has 22 points.
However, UTT is the only team which can deny Cunupia FC the title and promotion to the Premier Division as it has two matches remaining and can match its rivals points tally and improve its goal-difference as well while Spartans has one match and Hotspur two, but the latter can only reach 28 points.
On Saturday, Michael Yaw Darko opened the scoring for Cunupia in the clash of Central Football Association clubs in the 23rd minute, but nine minutes later, Donavon Derrick equalized for Spartans.
Four minutes before the half-time whistle, former national youth team stand-out, Gorean Highley regained the lead for Cunupia FC to lead 2-1 at the break, and nine minutes into the second-half, Stevon Stoute extended the advantage to 3-1.
Spartans managed to climb back to within one goal in the 68th minute courtesy a strike from Keith Williams, but Cunupia FC managed to hold on for the valuable three points, to put one hand on the title.
Cunupia’s path to the title was made easier last week when it elevated to the top of the table following the decision by Carenage United to withdraw from the competition.
In a release from the NSL Tournament Committee it was stated that: Carenage UInited had officially withdrawn from the competition and as such in fairness to the other participating clubs the NSL made the decision to nullify the results of all Carenage’s games played or not played in Round Two.
The NSL also awarded T&T Prison Service FCthree points and three goals for a match against Youth Stars which was not played last week.
Also on Saturday, Youth Stars got a pair of goals from Hakeem Legall to carry his league leading tally to 15 in a 4-2 defeat of Barrackpore United SC.

Santa Rosa whip Guaya in Super League

A PAIR of second half goals from Keston Henry and Kevon Cornwall proved vital as Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa edged fourth-placed Guaya United 2-1 on Sunday in a Match Day 23 fixture of the National Super League Premiership Division.
Santa Rosa continue to set the pace in the Premiership Division with a five-point lead over second-placed and defending champions Defence Force, while Club Sando Moruga are third, 10 points adrift of the leaders.
At the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Guaya went in front after 39 minutes through Kendes Garcia but Henry evened the scores in the 58th and Cornwall notched the winner in the 69th.
Defence Force dropped vital points as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Siparia Spurs at the Defence Force headquarters in Chaguaramas.
Akil Morris opened the scoring for the Army-Coast Guard combination in the 38th before Andy London levelled the scores in the 62nd. Michael Edwards restored Defence Force’s lead in the 84th but their joy turned to sorrow four minutes later when Darius Peters got the game-tying goal for Siparia.
Club Sando Moruga also failed to keep up with the top two after they suffered a shock 2-1 loss to the struggling Queen’s Park at the St Mary’s Ground in St Clair.
Alex Knaggs (18th) and Chad De Freitas (83rd) found the back of the net for the Parkites, while Jessie Edwards pulled one back for the visitors, in the 90th.
Cellar-placed Marabella Family Crisis Centre got a similar 2-1 result, over the lowly Real Maracas at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.
Another struggling outfit, Bethel United, got a rare victory, at the expense of Petrotrin Palo Seco, by a 3-1 margin.
At the St James Barracks, Police and Matura ReUnited played to a 0-0 draw while 1976 FC Phoenix earned a 1-1 draw versus WASA FC at the Canaan Recreation Ground.

As the National Super League Championship Division winds down, the race to the title is between leaders Cunupia FC and University of Trinidad and Tobago.
On Wednesday, UTT crushed fourth-placed Saddle Hill Hotspur 8-3 in a rescheduled contest at the UTT Ground in O’Meara, Arima.
It was the most goals they have scored against any team this season.
Ex-national defender/ midfielder Kevaughn Connell (eighth, 32nd and 55th minutes) and Dillon Bartholomew (17th, 37th and 73rd) each registered hattricks for the hosts, while Theon James (23rd) and Shaquille Smith (84th) got the others.
A pair of former national ace strikers, Stern John (58th) and Hector Sam (82nd), as well as Andre Rampersad (80th) replied for Saddle Hill. However, an e-mail which was issued to members of the media as well as officials in the local football fraternity by a sender named ‘Dennis Sookraj’ questioned the result.
Cunupia FC have completed all their games and have a total of 29 points from 15 games, while UTT are next with 26 points from 14 games.
However, UTT have a goal difference of plus 16 compared to Cunupia’s 13, which means that UTT have to win their last league game tomorrow against Youth Stars, at the Cyd Gray Ground in Roxborough, to leapfrog Cunupia and cop the title.
Anthony Harford, director of the All Sports Promotions Limited - the organising body for the National Super League - rubbished claims that teams are not playing to their potential in order to decide results. “I don’t know who (Dennis Sookraj) is,” said Harford. “I am not aware of any reports of anyone suggesting that there is any sort of matchfixing or so on.” He continued, “the minute I start hearing about those things, I will call everybody into a meeting and say ‘you all are going down the wrong street’. I’ve heard people say they’ve suffered as a result of bad refereeing.
“But, out of the 14 years I’ve been in the Super League, I’ve never once heard an iota of discussion about matchfixing.” And a representative from UTT emphasised the fact that they have a solid team, both in terms of players and technical staff.
“The teams we’re meeting don’t have the physicality to keep up for 90 minutes,” the UTT representative said. “The score would look like it was bought out but Saddle Hill hadn’t trained since their last game, according to their coach.” The UTT representative stressed that their players are well-trained and taken care of and were able to nullify Saddle Hill’s game plan, which was “just to get the ball to Stern and Sam.” A member of the Cunupia FC team, who was in attendance at Wednesday’s match, said he was stunned by the magnitude of Saddle Hill’s defeat but said he would never accuse anyone of anything sinister.
He too did not know any ‘Dennis Sookraj’.

Smith seals $140,000 Champ Div for UTT.

Shaquille Smith was the toast of his team-mates as he got a decisive second-half strike to secure a 2-1 win for University of T&T (UTT) over Youth Stars, and with it the $140,000 T&T Football Association National Super League Championship Division title and promotion.
The action unfolded on Saturday evening at the Cyd Grey Sports Complex in Roxborough, Tobago.
Going into the final match day, UTT trailed Cunupia FC (32 points) by three points and just needed a win to grab the title and the lone promotion spot to the Premier Division next season on goal-difference.
Youth Stars, meanwhile also needed full points to avoid relegation back to the Tobago Football Association by finishing in the bottom three clubs.
The spectators hardly had time to get into their seats though when UTT took the lead in the third minute through Dillon Bartholomew but Youth Stars replied eight minutes later thanks to Akeel Sterling as both teams went into the half-time at 1-1.
The defining moment in the contest came in the 63rd minute when Smith regained the lead for UTT, after which it held on for the narrow win to take the crown ahead of Cunupia while Youth Stars (18 points) face an anxious wait to know if it will be relegated.
This after Prisons crushed Central 500 Spartan 5-2 led by a double from Kerry Frederick to end with 20 points while the match between Saddle Hill Hotspur (25) and Petit Valley/Diego Martin United (17) was abandoned in the 73rd minute, with the latter ahead 4-3 a and final outcome will be determined by the league’s disciplinary committee..
As it stands, Carenage United which dropped out of the league a few weeks ago has already been demoted back to the Northern Football Association and will be joined by one from the duo of Youth Stars and Petit Valley/Diego Martin United.
On Wednesday at UTT Ground, O’Meara Road, Arima, UTT trailed Cunupia FC (32 points) by six points with two matches in hand and needed a win versus Saddle Hill Hotspur to keep alive its dream of taking the crown and the lone promotion spot to the Premier Division for next season.
By the half-time whistle, UTT was well on its way as Kevaughn Connell (eighth & 32nd), Bartholomew (17th & 37th) and Theon James (23rd) were all on target for a 5-0 advantage.
Connell then completed his treble in the 55th before former Soca Warriors World Cup striker Stern John got Hotspur on the board in the 58th to trail 6-1.
Bartholomew was next to complete his hat-trick in the 73rd for a 7-1 cushion before Andre Rampersad (80th) and another former T&T international Hector Sam (82nd) scored in quick succession for Hotspur to reduce the deficit to 7-3, only for Smith to add an eighth item for UTT, in the 84th.
In Wednesday’s other match at Barrackpore Recreation Ground, host club, Barrackpore United Sports Club whipped Prisons 5-2 led by a double from Jesse Downing in the second and 12th minutes.
Saturday’s final round of matches also featured a fight for the division’s leading scorer title which in the end went to Youth Stars’ Hakeem Legall ahead with 15 goals closely followed by Barrackpore’s Mikheil Peters and UTT’s Bartholomew, with 13 each.
They are followed by Spartans’ Donavon Derrick (12), Cunupia FC’s Michael Yaw Darko (11), and Connell and Cunupia’s Stevon Stoute with 10 apiece.
As runners-up Cunupia FC will get $100,000, while Spartan take home $80,000 for third spot and Hotspur, $60,000 as fourth placed finishers.
The top five “Players of Year” will each collect $1,500 and the “Most Valuable Player”, $3,000.

Matura delays Santa Rosa Premier celebrations

Kerin Vincent scored a second-half double as Matura Re United outgunned Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa 4-2 to delay the latter’s T&T Football Association National Super League Premier Division title celebrations on Sunday.
Going into match at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Santa Rosa (48 points) held a five points lead over last year’s winners Defence Force and with a victory could have claimed the crown depending on the outcome of the “Teteron Men” encounter with Petrotrin Palo Seco.
However, Matura was in the mood to play spoiler and led 2-0 at the half-time interval thanks to a goal apiece from Shervin Charles in the 32nd, and Joel Hoyte four minutes later.
Four minutes after the restart, Vincent extended the lead to 3-0 before Santa Rosa mounted a fightback and closed to within a goal at 3-2 after items from Rashad Griffith in the 57th and Keston Henry in the 61st.
But with eight minutes left in the match, Vincent got his second to push Matura’s lead to 4-2 after which they held on for the unlikely win.
Despite the loss, Santa Rosa stayed on course for the title as Defence Force collapsed in the final ten minutes and allowed a 2-0 advantage to slip in a 2-2 draw with hosts Petrotrin Palo Seco at the Palo Seco Municipal Stadium.
The “Teteron Men” looked well set for a comfortable win after goals from Stephan Antoine (23rd) and Akil Morris (35th), but in the 80th, Tigana Sparks got Petrotrin Palo Seco back in the match, before Brent Garcia netted two minutes to earn a share of the points.
Third placed Club Sando Moruga also missed a chance to close in on the top two after it rallied for a 2-2 draw at Grand Chemin Recreation with Kyle Morgan (91st) and Nigel John (93rd) scoring late to cancel out a double from Dominique Kerr, in the second and 75th.
In other matches, fourth placed Guaya United whipped Siparia Spurs 3-1 led by a brace from Kevin Jagdeosingh; WASA FC trashed Bethel United 6-1; Real Maracas edged Police FC 1-0 and Queen’s Park Cricket Club blanked Marabella Family Crisis Centre, 2-0.

Small field, no $$ send Carenage United out Super League

Carenage United, the top team in the Northern Football Association for 2015, faces major challenges if they are to compete at the National Super League and the top-flight T&T Pro League in the future, its manager and owner Angus Eve believes.
The team was thrown out of the Championship Division of the Super League due to lack of funding and because their football ground at Haig Street, did not meet the required standard, as it fell short by a few feet. (It is recommebded by Fifa that football fields must be between 100 yards and 130 yards and the width between 50 and 100 yards.)
Yesterday, Eve who has been instrumental in ensuring the team qualify for the Super League, told the Trinidad Guardian the could club could not raise the finances to fund the team through the tournament.
“This allowed players to seek jobs to take care of their families and eventually break the team up. After a while, we just did not have enough players to field a team for matches” Eve explained.
The team also suffered a major set-back when they were told their home ground did not meet the required standard to compete in the league.
“It is the same ground we have played all our qualification matches on. This was a real let-down for us as we had to play all our matches away which meant that we did not have the opportunity to generate revenue for the season. In fact we had to put out huge amounts of money when we had games but could not generate any in return” Eve said.
Tony Harford, the All Sports Promotion’s owner and managing director said in an immediate response, that his organisation cannot make changes to the rules of the tournament.
“The League’s technical director adjudged that the field at Haig Street was too small and could not be used. We cannot go against him, as we are only running the tournament the way they want us to” Harford said.
He noted “I don’t expect the super league to be held responsible for Carenage’s failure. In fact, they are not the only team to have been affected by this, as just a year ago, La Horquetta suffered a similar fate.” The NFA president has called on clubs being affected by anything in the league to raise it at meetings, saying the Carenage club never once raised the issue at a meeting, although its officials were advised to make a case for it.
According to Harford, Carenage United were told their field was too small and they opted to use the Hasely Crawford Stadium as their home ground. The club is being asked to go back to their Regional Corporation and seek assistance in getting their field expanded.

Cunupia FC declared Super League Championship winners

CUNUPIA FC were awarded the 2016 National Super League Championship title yesterday, ending a couple days of uncertainty as to whether Cunupia FC or the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) were the official winners.
On Saturday night, the Super League, through its director of operations Richard Piper, issued their regular email containing results of matches earlier in the day, as well as a note stating “special congratulations to UTT on their first Championship Division title”.
A local daily newspaper went as far as to report that UTT were the champions, though a story in yesterday’s Newsday indicated that there was some conjecture as to who were the 2016 winners.
Both Cunupia and UTT finished with 32 points from 16 games, but UTT had a superior goal difference of plus-24, compared to Cunupia’s plus-16.
However, it was revealed that a rule book, which was presented to all teams in 2015, stressed that the head-to-head rule would be used to separate teams who shared the same points, at the end of the season.
Yesterday, in a media release issued by Anthony Harford, owner of All Sport Promotions (the organising body for the League), it was revealed that “the technical director (Wayne Caesar) declared officially, Cunupia Football Club as the winners of the 2016 NSL Championship Division.
“There was some confusion over the weekend when a release on the final round of matches congratulated UTT on becoming champions, but this was not verified by the technical director at that time,” the media release continued.
“The clubs and then technical director (Douglas James) agreed on the change from 2005 giving as the second tie-breaker, head to head (meaning results of the games between the two teams tied at the end of the league).
Goal difference has been the fifth tie-breaker since then.
There has been no revision of the regulations since 2005 nor has the NSL been required to use the tie-break system. These regulations are contained in article 17 of the TT FA National Super League rules and regulations.” However, “the management of the NSL congratulates Cunupia FC and apologises unreservedly to UTT for frustrating their hopes of a first league title.” Cunupia FC coach Michael De Four, in a telephone interview, said, “it is wonderful to be a champion, you can ask (Dwayne) Bravo what that means.” He continued, “it was a lot of hard work, and it came about with the staff of Roland Clarke, David Wiltshire, David Ceballo, Nicole Fletcher and the president Navin Charles.
The players gave the best they could have given under the circumstance and it is really a joy to be made champions.
“Cunupia (were) the only team that beat every club in the League (in 2016),” De Four stressed.
“That is performance.” UTT official Nicholas Lochan was disappointed, yet graceful in defeat with regards to yesterday’s outcome. “It was unfortunate that it went down to head-to-head.
We had a superior goal difference but we also lost less games than Cunupia. In all fairness to Cunupia, they were one of the best teams in the League. They were consistent right through.
“I’m happy for them. I’m just disappointed that UTT put in a lot of effort to win the League and sometimes it just don’t work out for various reasons,” Lochan acknowledged.

Look Loy explains Santa Rosa’s success

PLAYERS who were signed by Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa owner/coach Keith Look Loy during the off-season, as well as those who came through the ranks at the Arima-based club, were essential to the team’s successful campaign in the 2016 National Super League Premiership Division.
FC Santa Rosa secured the title on Sunday, by virtue of a 2-0 victory over Guaya United at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. In the process, they maintained their four-point lead over 2015 winners Defence Force, with one round of matches remaining.
Asked during a telephone interview on Monday about the secrets of his team’s success, Look Loy replied, “we had a hard core of players that we have built up over the first four seasons (in the Super League).
Of our 25-man squad, about 10 of them have come through Santa Rosa from since they were kids. Just two of them in particular, who are starters and who have won national titles with Santa Rosa before at youth level, Jean-Paul Aqui-Blanc and Osei Sandy, I coached them at the Under-17 level and they won the TTFA (Trinidad and Tobago Football Association) Youth League. We had that base.
The players who were signed by Look Loy were Keron Clarke (who scored both goals on Sunday), Sheldon Nesbitt, Quillon Dick, Ricardo Cornwall and Kevon Cornwall.
“We brought in five new players, all of whom played (on Sunday), either they started or they came on as subs,” noted Look Loy. “They brought some extra quality and that’s why I recruited them, and it paid off. So it is a combination of a solid core built up over the years and the addition of several new elements in the course of the season.” Sports and Games became the team’s official sponsors earlier this year and Look Loy stated that the sports merchandise group plans to stay on board for the 2017 season.
“At our (youth teams) function on Saturday, the CEO of Sports and Games Omar Hadeed told the audience that they are continuing to sponsor Santa Rosa,” Look Loy said. “It means equipment and, more than that, it gave us some financial resources to stabilise the men’s team, in terms of travelling and giving the players a stipend.
“It’s not a professional team but we can give them something every month,” he continued. “That was a big input and we’re very happy about that. I’m happy that they’re going to continue their sponsorship.”

Huawei gifts Petit Valley United sponsorship

PETIT Valley United were granted an early Christmas, or rather season, gift after their sponsorship request to Huawei Technologies (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited was given approval to the sum of $45000.
The one year agreement would see Huawei’s logo on Petit Valley’s kit for next season’s edition of the Super League as the company covered the cost of registration along with new uniforms.
Tricia Henry, Public Relations Manager for Huawei T&T , reiterated some of the reasons for the deal as she stated, “basically we have been operating in T&T just over 10 years now and we take our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR ) very seriously in every country we engage in, and Trinidad is no different as we recognize this as a major market in the English Speaking Caribbean.”
She went on to explain, “we want to see the growth of sport throughout the country and when they (Petit Valley United) approached us, we did not hesitate to assist them.”
The organization views this strategy as one way they can interact and communicate with the community as they plan to continue investments, not just through football and sport, but throughout various channels in society.
Manager of Petit Valley United, Derek Edwards, also gave his nod to the new sponsorship agreement by stating, “we are grateful that they came to our assistance, after we applied, as we look forward to a successful season and working with them in the future.”

Parkites whip champs FC Santa Rosa

QUEEN’S PARK whipped recently-crowned Premier Division champions Sports and Games FC Santa Rosa 1-0 on Sunday, in the final day of action in the National Super League.
Santa Rosa, who sealed the title a week earlier, were undone by a 71st minute goal by Jason Devenish, at the St Mary’s Ground in St Clair.
Nonetheless, the champs finished the season with a tally of 51 points from 26 games, four more than Defence Force, who were also in losers’ row on Sunday.
At the WASA Ground in St Joseph, the hosts prevailed by a 2-1 margin. Dwight Crichlow found the back of the net in the 34th minute while Nathan Julien doubled the lead in the 70th.
Stephan Antoine got the lone goal for the Army-Coast Guard combination, in the 89th.
Club Sando Moruga had an easy time on Sunday, as they earned a 3-0 victory, by default, over Petrotrin Palo Seco at the Grand Chemin Recreation Ground in Moruga.
Fourth-placed Guaya United got a second-half double from Kevin Jagdeosingh to defeat hosts Matura ReUnited 2-1 at the Arima Velodrome. Matura went ahead through Dorian Robinson in the 27th but Jagdeosingh hit back for the visitors with strikes in the 71st and 90th.
Finishing in fifth spot on the standings were Siparia Spurs, who got the better of Real Maracas 3-2 at the Maracas Recreation Ground in St Joseph.
Andy London, who was the top scorer in the Premier Division with 26, scored twice for Siparia, in the 41st and 45th, while Marcus Kelly found the back of the net in the 12th. Veteran midfielder Ryan Stewart scored twice for Maracas, in the 30th and 83rd. In a meeting of lower- placed squads, Bethel United registered a 4-3 victory over table- proppers Marabella Family Crisis Centre at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.
Akeel Scott (69th and 84th), Teejay Cadiz (46th) and Densyl James (76th) netted for Bethel United while Kurlan Khan (28th), Andrei Pacheco (59th) and Daniel Smith (74th) replied for Marabella. Police and 1976 FC Phoenix played to a 2-2 draw at the St James Barracks.
Ricardo Peltier (45th), brother of ex-national winger Lester Peltier, and Jason Boodram (52nd) struck for the lawmen, while Shelton Williams (36th) and Lejandro Williams (65th) scored for Phoenix.

THE top two teams in the Premier Division of the National Super League both lost on Sunday's final day of competition. But nothing changed.
Sports & Games FC Santa Rosa won the competition despite a 1-0 defeat against Queen's Park on the final day of the season, while Defence Force fell 2-1 to WASA on Sunday, but still ended up second.
A 3-0 default win over Petrotrin Palo Seco gave Club Sando Moruga third spot, while former champions Guaya United beat Mathura Reunited 2-1 to finish fourth.

Mascall embracing new career.

Women Soca Warriors midfielder Dernelle Mascall exchanged her boots for the coach's clip board, when she accepted the job to be the Head Coach for Club Sando Moruga back in May. She has led the club to a third-place finish with 42 points in the Premiership Division of the National Super League. She is the only female to coach in the National Super League.
Asked about the reaction to having a female coach, captain and the team's leading goalscorer, Nigel John said that it was “a positive feeling to have Dernelle as our coach. She was very hard on us... and despite the ups and downs, she did good.”
Mascall, who always tries to deflect attention and the spotlight away from herself, reflected: “the season has been a journey; went in somewhat naive, expected to add structure, implement tactics; only to be confronted by 'our football culture'. This took me completely out of my comfort zone, a challenge I accepted willingly.”
Asked about how this experience as a coach impacted her as a player, Mascall said: “Being a player is the easiest aspect of the game. After calling all my coaches and apologising...heading back to the pitch to thoroughly enjoy every game I play; to always play with the joy and passion of an eight-year-old.”
This is the second time Moruga has played in the Super League, but the first time they ended the season in the top three. John is looking forward to next season “with their woman coach” and hopes that they can have all their players, train hard and win games to ensure that in 2017 Club Sando Moruga will be lifting the trophy as Champions of the Super League.

Cunupia FC, winners of the Championship Division of the National Super League (NSL), last Thursday received their trophy and $140,000 prize at a ceremony held at All Sport Promotions in Woodbrook. Michael De Four, coach of Cunupia FC, collected the prize from Richard Piper, Tournament Co-ordinator of the NSL.
Speaking to Newsday yesterday, De Four said his club is eagerly awaiting the start of the newly formed Trinidad and Tobago Super League (TTSL) League One competition which will replace the NSL.
Despite playing in the second tier of local football for the first time, De Four is confident his team can represent themselves with distinction.
“We’re looking to win the league. Cunupia, like any other team, are looking to win,” he said, while indicating they’ve already started training in anticipation for the June 2017 start.
Asked about the likely composition of the squad considering Cunupia FC have signed an agreement with Brazilian club Cruzeiro to share information and players, De Four said: “The local guys have asked for the opportunity to show they have the quality, professionalism and determination to play at this level.” Cunupia FC won the National Super League Championship crown ahead of the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT ) via a better head-to-head record after both were tied on 32 points. Central 500 Spartans finished the season in third place.
