National senior men's football team head coach, Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, who is among those to be bestowed with the Order of Distinction at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony in October, said it is an "extreme privilege" to be in the company of other esteemed Jamaicans and he expects accolades more to come.
Whitmore, who has more than 120 caps and 24 international goals for Jamaica, was the main creative force in midfield when the Reggae Boyz qualified for the World Cup in 1998. He was also the hero in the team's only win at the tournament, when he scored two brilliant goals to lead Jamaica to a 2-1 win over Japan in their third and final group game of the finals.
More recently, the 45-year-old, who has been in charge of the national senior team on four separate occasions, shocked the football world when he guided a squad of locally bred Jamaican players to their second straight Gold Cup final, where they lost 2-1 to host nation the United States.
'EXTREME PRIVILEGE'
"It's an extreme privilege to be among the list of persons to be honoured and with ... the Order of Distinction.
"I give all praises to God Almighty. Without Him, it would not have been possible. Therefore, it is my fervent desire to continue to serve my country and community by contributing in all the ways I can to uplift those who I come in contact with. This is another great achievement, and there are a lot more to come," he commented.
Of his two outstanding football achievements, Whitmore says he has no preference. "They are two great achievements and two different scenarios - one when I was playing and the other while coaching, but they are two of my greatest moments," he said.

Trinidad and Tobago will host 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup runners-up Jamaica on 24 August from 8pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium as the Caribbean’s traditional heavyweights go head-to-head in a friendly contest.
Tickets cost $100 (covered stands) and $50 (uncovered) and will be available at all NLCB Lotto locations nationwide from Wednesday 9 August.
“This is soca versus reggae at its best,” John-Williams told the TTFA Media. “The Jamaicans are on a high at the moment and we know they always come hard when they have to face Trinidad and Tobago. We think that it is an excellent opportunity for our team to get just the kind of workout they will need before Honduras.
“It’s ‘Tallest’ versus ‘Tappa’ for Caribbean bragging rights. We want a packed house on August 24th to witness this Caribbean derby in Port of Spain.”
Ironically, the Soca Warriors’ next competitive international match against Honduras will be played at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva on 1 September rather than in Port-of-Spain—in part, because the TTFA is uncertain whether the current National Senior Team has the pulling power to fill the Hasely Crawford Stadium at present.
Trinidad and Tobago lost 1-3 away to Ecuador late last month and head coach Dennis Lawrence is happy to have another dress rehearsal before they face Honduras in a crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier.
“This game comes at an ideal time for us in preparation for Honduras,” said Lawrence. “Jamaica are in a good moment after coming off a very positive showing at the Gold Cup. They will come here looking to maintain that form, which means they will give us the kind of test we are looking for at this stage of the preparations—a week before we face Honduras.
“We will start training on August 14th for the matches coming up and this will obviously be a critical period for us, which we are all anticipating a great deal.”
At present, Jamaica are ranked 76th in the world by FIFA which is two places above Trinidad and Tobago, who are now 78th.
In their last clash with Trinidad and Tobago on home soil, the “Reggae Boyz” emerged victorious in the 2014 Caribbean Cup final but needed penalties to do so. In the last clash between them in Port-of-Spain, the Warriors won 2-0 in a friendly on 19 November, 2013.
Both teams will be under-strength since the game falls outside the FIFA match window and both nations will need special dispensations from clubs to get their foreign-based players to join the squad.

T&T to host Jamaica in Caribbean Clasico at Hasely Crawford Stadium
Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s Team will face off with Jamaica in a battle for Caribbean supremacy when the two nations clash in an International Friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on August 24th at 8pm.
The game was confirmed by the TT Football Association (TTFA) today and will serve as a final build up for head coach Dennis Lawrence and the Warriors ahead of there all-important September 1st World Cup qualifier at home to Honduras.
Jamaica are coming off their Concacaf Gold Cup runners up performance after losing narrowly to the United States in the recent final and head coach Theodore Whitmore will be hoping to avenge his team’s previous 2-0 defeat to T&T when both teams met in a friendly in Port of Spain on November 19th, 2013.
For T&T, the game is all about preparations for Honduras and Panama in early September.
“This game comes at an ideal time for us in preparation for Honduras,” Lawrence told TTFA Media on Monday. “Jamaica are in a good moment after coming off a very positive showing at the Gold Cup and they will come here looking to maintain that form which means they will give us the kind of test we are looking for at that stage of the preparations, a week before we face Honduras.

TTFA President David John-Williams is also foreseeing a gripping contest on the night.

I guess the girls fixtures were fixed a while ago and the JA friendly only now got arranged.

Against CFU/CONCACAF regulations, they not allowed them to use the field during the time of the girls tournament which features double headers on each dates as stated above and they could not get another date for the JA friendly.
The girls tournament were planned a while ago.

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has offered Theodore Whitmore a new contract as coach of the national senior men's team, after his contract ended at the conclusion of the Gold Cup last month.
Whitmore was given an interim role by the late former JFF president Captain Horace Burrell, last year.
Now, interim JFF president Bruce Gaynor has decided to continue with the former national senior team captain and star midfielder. Whitmore guided Jamaica to a second-place finish in the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament last month, where hosts United States edged Jamaica 2-1 in the final.
"We (the JFF) have offered him (Whitmore) a new contract which is not yet finalised. We will sit with Whitmore for discussions. He has agreed to coach the team in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in that country on August 24," Gaynor told The Gleaner yesterday.
18-MAN SQUAD
Whitmore named a 18-man squad of local players for the friendly international at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, starting at 7 p.m., Jamaica time.
Trinidad and Tobago next plays Honduras on September 1 in the CONCACAF Hexagonal round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers and is using this game as part of their preparation.
The game continues the commitment of the JFF to secure games on a regular basis for the national team as part of the rebuilding process of the team.
The squad will begin training on August 16. Finnish-based defender Aubrey David is anticipating a gripping contest on August 24th when this country plays host to the “Reggae Boyz” in an international friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 8pm.
David, who has been a regular in the T&T rosters for the World Cup qualifying campaign is likely to feature in the upcoming slate of matches for T&T with the all important World Cup qualifier against Honduras set for the Ato Boldon Stadium on September 1st.
While head coach Dennis Lawrence will have more home-based players at his disposal for the friendly, he is hoping to maximise the outing with there being several players based in the T&T Pro League who have seen action in the qualifiers.
Regardless, David is expecting team T&T to be gunning for their Caribbean rivals.
“It’s always a keen rivalry when Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica meets and there is always that feeling that there is a score to settle for both teams. They have reached two Gold Cup finals and we have always been knocking on the door and threatening to reach just as far but fortunately for Jamaica they have done it. I think the Caribbean Cup record still shows us as winning more titles than they have and of course we are still in with a chance of reaching Russia 2018,” David told TTFA Media.
“But I expect both teams to be fired up and this is exactly what we need right now because we want a proper test before the Honduras and Panama games. I know for sure Jamaica will not want to come here and give up a result following their performance at the Gold Cup,” David added.
“Personally, I think the game will help us as it gives coach Lawrence a good chance to see a few more of the local players before he calls his final squad for Honduras. The important thing is we as players buy into his ideas and try to execute as best as possible both on the training pitch and in the game itself,” David said.
The former Caledonia AIA player has faced off with Jamaica since his Under 17 days, being part of the T&T outfit that beat Jamaica 1-0 in the final CONCACAF qualifying match in Kingston to qualify for the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Cup in South Korea, that winning goal being scored by Kevin Molino.
“We go a long way back and when you look at the history, there are some very exciting and tense games between the two countries. It is one of those rivalries I always look forward to,” he said.

Jamaica head coach Theodore Whitmore announced Monday an 18-man roster for an international friendly on August 24 against host Trinidad & Tobago at Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The side features four players who saw action for the Reggae Boyz as they finished as runner-up to the United States in July’s CONCACAF Gold Cup: defender Ladale Ritchie, as well as Portmore United midfielders Michael Binns, Ewan Grandison and Ricardo Morris. Two others – forward Shamar Nicholson and defender Rosario Harriott – did not appear in any games.
Also meriting selection was midfielder Kaheem Parris, who scored two goals in three games for Jamaica in the 2017 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.

Cato recalled for Friendly
Trinidad and Tobago head coach Dennis Lawrence will have the services of at least three overseas-based professionals for the upcoming international friendly against Jamaica at the Hasely Crawford Stadium next Thursday from 8pm.
Speaking ahead of training on Thursday at the Stadium training pitch, Lawrence
“The idea is to prepare for the Jamaica game which is leading up to the Honduras game which is the most important thing. I think the Jamaica game will be a fantastic test for the boys because Jamaica did really well in the Gold Cup. They will come here on a high and we are looking forward to the game,” Lawrence said.
“It is going to be good for the local players. We have managed to acquire the services of a couple of the foreign players and the main reason for that is the fact that they have not been playing for their clubs so it is important that we try and give them some match time before the Honduras game. I think we have three players confirmed – Cordell Cato, Mekeil Wiliams and Aubrey David.
“Everyone knows that between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica is a big rivalry and it’s a Caribbean derby.
“The idea is to integrate the young boys as quick as possible. They have all been doing very well in the training and the idea is to give them some game time as quick as possible.”
Lawrence added that he has since had a conversation with Cordell Cato after the player was left out of the final squad for the World Cup qualifying matches with United States and Costa Rica.
“Cordell phoned me and we had a conversation. Cordell understands the situation of what is expected of him. I think what happened is behind us now. The door was never closed on him. We had a good conversation and he will be here as part of the group and he is going to try and achieve what we want to..” Lawrence added.
On playing the Honduras game at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Lawrence commented “The idea is to basically create an atmosphere. If you look at the two previous games against Panama and Mexico at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, we didn’t have much of an atmosphere that we were looking for. Hopefully we can do this in a smaller setting to help us get the result that we want. Every bit of support from the people will be important to us in these matches.”

Although his Jamaica side hasn’t defeated host Trinidad & Tobago at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain since 2000, head coach Theodore Whitmore is unconcerned by that statistic ahead of their August 24 friendly at the same venue.
“Football is a game which is played on the day and not in the past,” said the 45-year-old. “With the talent that is in this current squad, I am confident we have enough to get one over our Caribbean neighbours. We have six players from the Gold Cup squad and three who were in the Caribbean Cup, so we have the quality to deliver.”
Whitmore guided Jamaica through a successful summer, earning runner-up finishes in both the Caribbean Cup and Gold Cup, falling by the same 1-2 score in the respective finals to Curacao and the United States.
Defender Ladale Ritchie, as well as Portmore United midfielders Michael Binns, Ewan Grandison and Ricardo Morris, saw action in the CONCACAF event. Two others – forward Shamar Nicholson and defender Rosario Harriott – did not appear in any games
“The summer has been a mixed bag for us,” Whitmore finished. “The Caribbean Cup we wanted to win, but what we achieved in the Gold Cup was wonderful as well. Both Trinidad and Tobago head coach Dennis Lawrence and Jamaica’s head coach Theodore Whoitmore are welcoming the opportunity to utilise their home-based talent in Thursday’s International Friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium which kicks off at 8pm.
Lawrence has selected a provisional squad that includes only three overseas-based players in Aubrey David (Finland) and US-based duo of Cordell Cato and Mekeil Williams. Whitmore also has a squad comprising of mainly Jamaican-based players with at lest five of those players being part of the squad which came second at the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Some of the home-based players now coming into he setup for T&T include Kevon Villaroel of North East Stars, Julio Noel of San Juan Jabloteh, Neil Benjamin jr of W Connection, Shane Sandy of MIC IT St Ann’s Rangers, Jared London of Club Sando and Taryk Sampson and Nathaniel Garcia of Central FC, along with more seasonal national team players such as Hughtun Hector, Nathan Lewis, Marvin Phillip, Alvin Jones and Curtis Gonzales.
Whitmore expects his bunch to give a strong account of themselves in the Caribbean derby as they are all pressing for regular selection.
“It does not really matter whether it is a FIFA date, this is something we want for the local national players to have enough games for them to expose themselves, for them to expose themselves in environment like this,” Whitmore said.
“Against quality opponents like a Trinidad and Tobago, who are preparing for two World Cup Qualifying games, it gives us a chance to look at other players. We need more games like these for our local players. This is our base,” he added.
Lawrence has a similar feeling, saying “The local-based players have come in and done very well. They have applied themselves well and of course with proper international matches like the Ecuador game and now Jamaica helps to bring them up to a level so that in a situation where we need them to step to the call when we have World Cup qualifiers with the full roster available, then it will not be a culture shock or something totally new to some of these guys,” Lawrence said.
“Matches like this one on Thursday are vital for our development and getting the younger players exposed to the real challenges of international football.This then gives myself and the rest of the coaching unit that opportunity to make a proper assessment of what is available to us in terms of selection and ensuring we have the best possible team together for the qualifiers and other big international assignments ahead of us,” Lawrence added.
The Team continues preparations on Monday at the Larry Gomes Stadium. Anton Corneal, Technical Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association, believes that the test of Jamaica will be a most fitting one less than a week before the “Warriors” face off with Honduras in their do or die encounter at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
T&T clashes with Jamaica on Thursday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 8pm with Dennis Lawrence continuing his preparations this week, also expected to name his final squad for the encounter on Tuesday. San Jose Earthquakes winger Cordell Cato joined the provisional squad on the weekend and engaged in his first training session on Monday at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
“I think ideally thus is the right type of game that we need now,” Corneal told TTFA Media.
“Jamaica are coming off a high with their performance at the Gold Cup and they will be coming here intent on maintaining that hype and ensuring that Trinidad and Tobago does not get one over them. Several of their players are home based who also played in the Gold Cup. There is that natural rivalry also and so it is a great opportunity for our team to play a very competitive game ahead of the World Cup qualifier,” Corneal stated.
While the Caribbean derby will be the focus this week, Corneal stressed that real matches of importance would be Honduras on September 1st and Panama four days later.
“Of course it is important to get a result against Honduras as they will be pushing for a result here also which possibly means it will give us a chance to exploit them in areas that may be opened up. It is the first game of the two qualifiers and a result here will give us that chance to keep fighting heading into Panama,” Corneal added.
The Under 15 Boys team is back home from a difficult showing at the CONCACAF U-15 Championship in Florida and Corneal emphasised also that measures would be undertaken by the FA to have a process of continuity to prepare this team going forward.
That is being put in place right now where we will be ensuring that we have a structure, that will be able to follow a young player from the moment he is at the club or academies and schools and ensuring they are properly enrolled into our existing youth programme. We will be able to identify talent and then inserting the player into the elite development programme where the top ones will be involved in a year round programme, coming together to train and play matches. It is evident also that we would need these players to be exposed to playing international games both at home and abroad in order for them to get the necessary exposure way before they head into a tournament,” Corneal stated.
The TTFA wishes to remind fans that once they purchase their T&T versus Honduras World Cup qualifier ticket at NLCB Lotto booths, that same ticket can be used to access the T&T versus Jamaica friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Thursday. Kick off is 8pm.

Joevin Jones joins preparations
Trinidad and Tobago head coach Dennis Lawrence welcomed German-bound Joevin Jones into his training session on Tuesday at Larry Gomes as the “Warriors” continued its preparations for Thursday’s International Friendly against Jamaica at Hasely Crawford Stadium at 8pm.
Jones turned up on Tuesday morning, joining the rest of the 21-man squad. However, according to Lawrence there is no confirmation that the player will take part in Thursdays match. Jones took full part in the 90-minute session and says he was eager to be part of the preparation for the all-important World Cup qualifier against Honduras at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday September 1st.
Also joining training on Tuesday was Finnish-based defender Aubrey David while Colorado Rapids defender Mekeil Williams is unavailable but is expected to join the squad next week for the Honduras encounter.
Defence Force defender Curtis Gonzales said the spirit in the T&T camp was very upbeat ahead of the showdown with the Reggae Boyz.
“The spirit is very upbeat. We have had good preparations so far. We know how important it is to get it right for the Honduras game and the rivalry with Jamaica is massive. I have never played against them (Jamaica) but I have heard lots of stories and I am feeling honoured to be part of the team that will take them on on Thursday. I expect the match to be a rough one,” Gonzales told TTFA Media.
W Connection winger Neil Benjamin jr is still looking for his international debut. He is hoping to get the nod from Lawrence on Thursday.
“It’s a great feeling to be on the national team now as coming out from the Benjamin family, I am the first one to actually make it onto the senior team. I’ve been welcomed with love and respect in this squad so the feeling has been great,” said Benjamin, whose father Nicholas is a former St Benedict’s College forward and uncle, Glen is a former National Under 20 player.
“We have to stay together as a team and keep working just as we have been doing for the last few days. The sessions have been of a very high intensity and you have to be sharp and ready for anything that comes your way. It really is making a difference in my development as a home-based player for when it’s time to go back to the club level,” Benjamin added.
The Jamaica teams comes in at 7:45pm on Tuesday and will train on Wednesday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. The T&T team will also train at the match venue on Wednesday evening. Tickets for the encounter remain on sale at all NLCB Lotto Locations priced at $100 (covered) and $50 (uncovered) and will also be on sale at the venue on Thursday. Over the years, whenever Jamaica and T&T faced off on the football field, the encounter was never considered an international friendly. Both countries saw the game as an “official” friendly and played with the intensity of a truly competitive match.
On this occasion, it will be an ideal contest for the Warriors, seeing that they will face Honduras with the determination to get the three points at stake, a factor which could be the only result to keep them on the road to Moscow.
I can recall ten occasions when I was among the national teams of the past, to deal with the “Reggae Boyz” and it was never easy.
It was always my belief that the countries had the greatest respect for each other and may well have supported one another if either witnessed the other in competition with other teams.
I do recall some of the excellent players over the years such as the great Gerry Alexander, a brilliant central defender whose talent was rated with many of the good one in the English League. Then there were names like Lindy Delapenha, Syd Bartlett, Walter Chevannes and Allan Skill Cole, who were replaced by those who excelled in the English Premier League (EPL) in more recent times.
Today, the Jamaican national team is divided between the overseas players and the local lads, a factor which may have stifled the locals in many cases.
With Theodore Whitmore being given an extended contract as head coach, following his team’s outstanding results in the Gold Cup, there is no doubt that he will go all the way to earn victory away from home.
In a strange way, these two teams bear resemblance tactically, where their skilled players develop the formula for any tactically prepared game.
Both teams give preference to starting their build up from the back four and start the search of their talented midfielders.
Like the Reggae Boyz, Kevin Molino, Khaleem Hyland, Leston Paul or/and Sean De Silva will expect to receive the ball in midfield positions in order to start the speed machinery of Willis Plaza, Cordell Cato and Jamille Boatswain.
In recent times, the Jamaicans have had maximum use of the very talented Darren Mattocks, a tremendous workhorse and has an absolute greed for scoring goals.
The chemistry of the Reggae Boyz has been impressive in the Gold Cup, although the quality of some of the opponents were weakened because of their country’s desire to rest their key players for World Cup such as Panama, Honduras, the USA and Costa Rica.
Nevertheless, T&T coach Dennis Lawrence has himself admitted that unforced errors tended to be their biggest problem while a solid defence which sometimes fail to communicate well against speedy forwards.
I would hope that Lawrence would entertain the thought that a friendly or two against the Pro League teams may sharpen these weak areas and bring the level of determination which is needed for victories in the next few games.
I thought that the decision to play against Jamaica at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain was ideal for the local team to get used to the speed of the surface, especially during the rainy season and also to learn everything about the current condition of the major stadium.
Honduras, however, will find that the venue for which they are accustomed will now be the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva. This does not allow any opportunity for home advantage.
I believe that it will be a game that is worth seeing and will provide the Warriors with stern competition. Good Luck Warriors.

Former schoolboy football standout Jamiel Hardware was a virtual last-minute replacement for midfielder Jamie Robinson as Theodore Whitmore's Reggae Boyz squad left for Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.
The Jamaicans are set to face their Caribbean rivals in a friendly international at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Thursday. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 pm (Jamaica time).
Head Coach Whitmore said Robinson's lack of pre-season preparation with his club was the reason for withdrawing him.
“Jamie has not started preseason with his club so that made no sense. I have to stick to what I believe in and what the federation is trying to do. If we are going to take Jamie, then we are going to send the wrong message to players,” Whitmore explained to the Jamaica Observer.
Only days ago veteran Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson had been drafted in to fill the void after Shawn Genius had to pull out of the squad due to school engagement.
“We already know what 'Teddy' brings to the team, so what we had wanted to do was to give other players opportunity. Shawn Genius was one of those players, but he has left for college so we turned to Jermaine Johnson,” Whitmore, a former Reggae Boyz star, said.
Thursday's friendly international provides useful practice for both teams.
Trinidad and Tobago are preparing for the resumption of the Hexagonal Round of the 2018 Russia World Cup football-qualifying campaign. Their next encounters are against Central American outfits Honduras and Panama in September.
The Jamaicans are not in 2018 FIFA World Cup contention, but with this present squad comprising local-based players, fringe members have the chance to stake their claim as Whitmore plots the path ahead.
Whitmore's Reggae Boyz, comprising locally bred players, were surprise second-placed finishers at the CONCACAF Gold Cup earlier this summer in the United States.
In 2015, Jamaica – guided by German Winfried Schaefer - had also finished second in the Gold Cup; however, most of the leading members of that squad were British-born. Somewhat tainting that achievement, Jamaica crashed out of qualification for next year's football showpiece.
The recent Gold Cup success is a platform Whitmore hopes to build on as the nation looks toward qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
“My personal thought is that we overachieved in the Gold Cup, but what we don't want to do is sway away. In 2015 we were in a similar position and we did not qualify for the 2018 World Cup. What we don't want to do is make the same mistake, so we have to think about how we can progress,” Whitmore said.
“We have to think about how we can move forward to make Jamaica's football more successful so we can compete against the Central and North Americans. My goal is always the long term goal; not the small picture. And for me the long-terms is 2022, which is our next [chance to qualify for a] World Cup,” added the Jamaican head coach.

The Hasely Crawford Stadium will be the centerstage for a renewed rivalry between Caribbean arch rivals as this country’s senior men’s team warms up for a crucial World Cup qualifier with an international friendly clash against Jamaica from 8pm on Thursday.
The Reggae Boyz arrived in Port of Spain on Tuesday night and had a one off training session at the venue on the eve of the encounter which will preceded another friendly for them against Canada in early September. For Dennis Lawrence’s men meantime, Thursday’s outing would have a lot more to it as the “Warriors” ready themselves for a critical assignment against Honduras on September 1st at the Ato Bolton Stadium.
Lawrence spoke on the eve of the match, stating that his side will look to complete a good week of preparations with a solid showing.
“It’s an encounter which for our purpose, is here to serve our preparation for the Honduras game. We’ve had a good week with the boys in the squad,” Lawrence told TTFA Media.
“They have responded well to our demands in the training sessions. A couple of the overseas players joined us this week and fitted in well and we are anticipating a good,solid outing against the Jamaica team, again with everything geared towards our preparation for Honduras,” he added.
W Connection defender Triston Hodge also spoke about the game’s relevance to T&T’s build up towards Honduras.
“This is a very important match as we see it. It is a rivalry yes but in the back of our minds we are thinking about the preparation for Honduras,” Hodge said.
“Everything for now is focused on Jamaica because we know how important is to do things right in the match and then try to transfer it into the Honduras game. We know for sure Jamaica will be coming firing at us because of what the rivalry means. From cricket to athletics to football, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica is always a contest that either side wants to come out on top,” Hodge added.
Jamaica came out on top in the last meeting between both teams, winning the Caribbean Cup Final 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 0-0 stalemate while T&T were 2-0 winners in a previous friendly in Port of Spain in 2013.

It's a Caribbean rivalry like no other. Regardless of the sport, and whether it's a friendly game or a high stakes, competitive encounter the battle is almost always intense.
Expect nothing less when Trinidad and Tobago's Soca Warriors host Jamaica's Reggae Boyz in this evening's international football friendly match here at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm Jamaica time.
“Jamaica-Trinidad is no normal game, it doesn't matter the sport, so the days together we have been trying to educate the players. This is more than football, but we came with an objective because we have a lot of first-timers and players who may make their international debut,” Jamaica's Head Coach Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore said yesterday.
“It is about what they do with the opportunity. Some will want to prove that they want to be here for the long haul and that will be pleasing to the coaching staff. Pride is at stake and we just have to go out and apply ourselves,” the Reggae Boyz coach added.

We are now rebuilding and trying to get depth in our squad and to build on our Gold Cup performance. Trinidad have quality players... we are not sure what their set-up is like, but we know they have overseas-based players in the squad,” the former silky midfielder explained.
The last time the teams met the Reggae Boyz won on penalty shoot-out in the final of the 2014 Caribbean Cup in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
However, their most recent friendly encounter ended 2-0 in T&T's favour in 2013.
Prior to that the Jamaicans beat the Trinidadians 3-1 here in a friendly international in Trinidad in 2010. Whitmore, in a previous stint, was also the head coach.

Really poor tonight in key areas of defensive midfield and the attacking third. Lacking quality in depth, attacking fringe players who actually stood a chance of playing time in the next two games were poor tonight.
The Jamaica team was a poor outfit as well so the sides were relatively even matched. Tappa's success is that he gets his tactics right
Poor officiating again, I mean really poor, basic errors from the Guyanese referee on the second goal in particular I already fearful for next week.
Losing is a culture and habit forming, 4 losses on the trot, it's good to have games but have to be watchful on developing a comfort for accepting these results with what is now a C team.

Steupse Cato but Cato is overrated, a youth who love to dribble but does not have the finishive been saying that yet they insist on this dense player with quarter of a brain. let's see if tallest insist on picking him over Nathan Lewis next friday.

they are not producing clinical finishers in front of goal because by the commentary I've heard it seems like our boys squandered multiple chances very easy chances which should have been converted. what I will say of the pro league is that it's not a very professional environment which develops players to be the best they can be. Professional my backside.
