Soca Warriors face Nicaragua in Tobago on March 27
By Jonathan Ramnanansingh (T&T Newsday)

Trinidad and Tobago’s next international fixture at home – a Concacaf Nations League clash against Nicaragua on March 27 – will be held at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Scarborough, Tobago.

This was confirmed by T&T Football Association (TTFA) director of communications Shaun Fuentes on Wednesday, who said this decision was taken owing to ongoing restoration work at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Ato Boldon Stadium and Manny Ramjohn Stadium.

He said, “For obvious reasons, with the unavailability of two or three of the venues in Trinidad that are currently under maintenance or refurbishment. We’ve agreed with the various stakeholders and coach Angus Eve has been a major part of this, to play the game at Dwight Yorke Stadium.”

T&T resume their Nations League campaign away to Bahamas on March 24 and then travel the next day to Tobago, for their home game against the Central Americans.

Eve said both match-ups are equally important and integral to kick-starting T&T’s resurgence as a formidable Caribbean squad.

Bahamas kicked T&T out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June 2021, and Eve believes a good result in their first fixture is crucial.

“The first game is always the toughest and it’s away from home. They’re (Bahamas) a very plucky and dogged bunch and have a lot of pride. Each of the games are important. You need to win the first game so the second one could be more relevant,” he said.

Regarding the Tobago venue, Eve was pleased the island will be getting some senior-team action.

The last time Dwight Yorke Stadium hosted an international fixture was when the Women Warriors eked out a 2-2 result against Guyana, in April 2022, to qualify for the Concacaf Women Championships, which was held in Mexico, in July.

Eve expects a good turnout in Tobago.

“We’re a footballing nation. You’ll probably see people flying across from Trinidad. I spoke to people in the US recently and they already booked tickets for both games. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem, we’re just going to a different part of the country to play.

“People should want to come out and support the team. This is a massive game for us because going through those types of games also takes you into World Cup qualifying, which gives you a better draw.”

On his team’s preparations, Eve is currently working with a bunch of senior and younger, locally-based footballers, to improve their skills and bolster their chances of impressing before the Nations League.

Since there has been no pro league football in T&T since 2020, Eve said such inactivity is hurting the local players and restricting their development.

“We haven’t had league football in Trinidad for a while so I think the guys here are a bit disadvantaged in the opportunities to make the team.

“What we’re doing, along with the TTFA normalisation committee, is that I will carry a plan to them to get these guys fit enough and get a couple of matches in before February month-end, so that they can have an opportunity to address the selectors to be a part of the team, come March.”

Regarding upcoming practice matches for the local bunch, Eve said Caribbean opposition remains top priority since the Soca Warriors are in a rebuilding stage and must restart from the bottom, up.

“You don’t want to be unfair to the guys by putting them to play a set of international teams when they have not been playing competitive football. We are running this programmes to get them to a semblance of match fitness so they could compete at a particular level. They won’t have to peak until mid-March.”

He however, remains in close contact with T&T’s foreign-based players and monitors their performances through statistics programmes online.

“We also follow up with phone calls and reinforcing to them how important those two matches are to T&T football. For the most part, the guys are 100 per cent on board and very enthusiastic and can’t wait to come back to represent the country.”

informative interview. Time for Normalization committee to ride. (not saying that what about to come in likely to be much better). I getting the sneaky suspicion Angus going to get us knocked out of the WC sooner rather than later, but theoretically it won't be his fault. Can't believe I about so say this but I think even Shabbaz might be a better caretaker coach than Angus.

Soca Warriors look to maintain winning mindset vs Nicaragua.
By Jonathan Ramnanansingh (T&T Newsday).

TRINIDAD and Tobago must maintain the same competitive mindset and aggression shown in their 3-0 victory over the Bahamas on Friday if they are to achieve the ultimate target of a win over Nicaragua at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago on Monday.

This was the sentiment shared by both TT skipper Joevin Jones and team debutant Andre Rampersad, who expressed pleasure with their solid win against the Bahamas but called for a mirrored approach in their final League B Group C match against the Central Americans.

Victory for the Soca Warriors over Nicaragua guarantees their promotion to League A and books them a spot in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup in June.

Against the Bahamas, midfielder Kareem Moses opened the scoring for TT in the fifth with a rifling shot from 25 yards out.

Jones sent the visitors 2-0 up in the 26th minute via a kick from the penalty spot and eight minutes later, Ryan Telfer latched on to a penetrating pass to seal a 3-0 advantage.

There were, however, several missed chances, particularly in the second half.

In Friday’s post-match press conference in Nassau, Jones said, “I think it was a good performance. We came out and got the start we wanted to get.

“Even though we didn’t score in the second half, we came here with a mindset to win, get the three points, go home and face the next game.

“It’s all about recovering for the next two days. We’re at home and it’s a must-win game for us, we have to go for it, fight, and get the victory. It will mean a lot to us because it will also help us qualify for the Gold Cup.”

Rampersad, who made his national debut on Friday, said there was no better way to notch his first country appearance than with a convincing victory.

He said, “It was a great feeling. The boys brought it. We should have scored more but for me, brilliant debut, couldn’t be better. The team made me comfortable and that was all that was needed, for me to be confident on the park. I cannot deny that I was a bit scared.

“There’s a lot to take from this game, three goals and a clean sheet. A lot of the guys that could have been on the park today (Friday) to help out with the win but they got rested so come Monday, we put everything on the line like we did today and we’ll get the result.”

Coach Angus Eve also credited his troops for a job well done and said it was a very “professional” performance despite the team “still gelling.” Eve said it was their intention to start strongly and also credited the Ft Lauderdale, Florida, camp as good preparation.

“I was very impressed with the continuity of the play today and the way we linked up with each other. I thought we probably should have scored a couple more goals but all in all, a win away from home, 3-0 is a good result.

“We wanted to put them on the back foot as early as possible. We think that we had players to hurt them. They tried to play a little bit more and it opened up spaces for us to express ourselves and use our pace and skill going forward.

“Defensively, I thought we were really good. I thought the opportunities they got were from a goalkeeper mistake and a defender mistake. There were not many shots for our goalkeeper to get. We had a lot of good chances down to the end that we missed.

“We did slow it down a little bit and wanted to control the game a bit more in the second half and that’s why we made a lot of changes. The changes killed the rhythm of the game.”

Angus Eve urges support for footballers: It's a final vs Nicaragua.
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday).

Trinidad and Tobago football head coach Angus Eve is hoping love and support from the home crowd on Monday will inspire T&T against Nicaragua in what he calls a "final" at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago. The Concacaf Nations League match kicks off at 8 pm.

A win for T&T will see them qualify automatically for the 2023 Gold Cup. Nicaragua only need a draw to advance to the Gold Cup as the Central Americans lead Group C of League B with 13 points, followed by T&T with 12 points.

T&T held their final training session ahead of the match at Dwight Yorke Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

T&T defeated Bahamas on Friday 3-0 to keep their chances alive of advancing as the top team in the group. "The boys are raring to go," Eve said. "We've been on a good run, but it all means nothing if we can't win tomorrow. It is a literal final for us. That's how we have been taking these last Nations League games."

Eve said victory will put T&T into Nations League Group A as well as book a Gold Cup spot.

He added, "Gold Cup qualification will put us in a better (Nations League) group and also (set up) qualifying for Copa America (2024), so there is a lot at stake in this game."

On playing at home, Eve said, "I love Trinidad and Tobago. We are one country...the guys are up for it and they really want to win for their country."

Striker Rundell Winchester and midfielder Noah Powder are the two members in the squad with Tobago roots. Winchester was born and grew up in Tobago, while Powder's father is Tobagonian.

Eve also expects a lot of people to travel from Trinidad to Tobago for the match. "We are going to get a good T&T loving today (Monday), definitely, because there are a lot of people coming up and they should want to come out and watch the boys.

"Rundell is a son of the soil and he is going to be in the side tomorrow, so it will be good for them to support him, but the total team as well."

T&T's defence has been solid and stingy over the past three matches, not conceding a goal. T&T defeated Jamaica 1-0 in an international friendly, which was followed by a 0-0 draw against the same team days later. After those matches, T&T kept another clean sheet against Bahamas.

Eve knows Nicaragua will be a more formidable opponent and they will be a cohesive team as all the players are home-based.

England-based central midfielder Daniel Phillips is questionable for Monday's match due to a leg injury, but the team has welcomed the return of defender Keston Julien.

Julien, who plays professionally in Moldova, had visa issues and could not travel with the team to Bahamas.

Trinidad and Tobago flagman confident in Soca Warriors

SOME fans go the extra mile to support their favourite sports teams. Joey "Posh" Richardson, also known as the T&T flag man, is definitely one man who travels miles to cheer on local and regional teams.

The Soca Warriors will face Nicaragua in a Concacaf Nations League match at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago on Monday at 8 pm. A win for T&T will see them earn an automatic spot at the 2023 Gold Cup.

Richardson boarded the Buccoo Reef vessel on Sunday morning at the Port of Port of Spain headed for Tobago.

Richardson, who is from El Socorro, is always glued to a sporting event. Before and during the trip, he was streaming the West Indies vs South Africa T20 match on his phone.

In an interview with Newsday, Richardson said he is looking forward to the match against Nicaragua.

"I feeling confident. (Head coach) Angus (Eve) has a good team and we are playing good defence so far. We played a lot of games without conceding a goal...although Nicaragua will be a tough fight, but I giving home field advantage (to us). We suppose to do it in Tobago tomorrow."

TT have played three matches this month without allowing a goal. TT defeated Jamaica 1-0 in an international friendly in Montego Bay and days later earned a 0-0 draw against the same team in Kingston. On Friday, T&T eased to a 3-0 victory over Bahamas in the Nations League in Nassau.

Richardson, wearing a West Indies t-shirt and a T&T bandana, has been a die-hard fan since 1989, when the Strike Squad took T&T by storm.

"(I am) patriotic to the bone. The bone still hard at age 67. That's part of me giving back to the country that I grew up in and live in and love too bad. T&T all the way."

Richardson is hoping Tobagonians turn up in their numbers to support.

"I hope the Tobago people come out tomorrow. We have to beat them...total support for the Soca Warriors."

As it says in the old trini vernacular, it good for allyu!!

Time and time again you people go through the same heartache and still won’t learn. it happened in guyana in 2011, then with the gold cup back to back to grenada, then the copa america to panama, then haiti and this same nicaragua with Tom saintfiet,

Then you all got booted out the world cup by peurto rico, the bahamas and st kitts, so when will you all understand that TT football gone through?

I knew once you struggled to beat monseratt in 2021 it was time to run from this country and their 1960s out dated bullshit brand of football. this what we are witnessing now is jack warner and Ollie camps vision for TT football and their field baring the fruits of their labor, this is what happens when you play games and sabotage a society for personal gain, both jack and DJW, this is their legacy.

When you people elect a good federation executive and start building youth development programs for football in the island and start doing right by football like El Salvador, peurto rico and panama, then maybe in 20 years your football would take shape in the right direction,

but if you continue to recycle rookie coaches like dereck king, angus eve and Brian Williams just to name a few who bounce around from the U15 - the mens senior team, these former footballers who have no experience outside the pro league, then it’s licks galore.

trinidad football lack vision, technicality and professionalism, and until you get rid of those dinosaurs who have the votes to choose who manage TT football, then the beatings will continue until you learn, and pretty soon you will fear facing teams like st lucia and dominica, just you watch.

Heartbreak for Warriors: Nicaragua take Gold Cup spot after 1-1 draw
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday)

TRINIDAD and Tobago failed to capitalise on a positive first-half performance as they drew 1-1 with Nicaragua in the Concacaf Nations League at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago on Monday night.

T&T needed a win to finish top of Group C in League B and advance directly to the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup in USA in June. A victory also would have earned T&T a place in Group A of the Nations League. As a result of finishing second in Group C, T&T will have to compete in the Gold Cup qualification tournament which will take place days before the Gold Cup kicks off.

T&T made a quick start as Shannon Gomez crossed the ball from the right side, but could not find anyone.

T&T started with more possession but did not create any clear-cut chances in the opening five minutes. Most of T&T’s attacks came up the right side early on as right-back Gomez was at the heart of most forward plays for the home team. Gomez showed pace and energy.

Nicaragua got a corner kick in the 11th minute, but it was cleared by the T&T defence.

In the 13th minute, T&T created the first great chance on goal. Andre Rampersad played the ball to Kaile Auvray who played a perfectly timed through ball to Keston Julien. Julien squared the ball to Tobago boy Rundell Winchester but his effort from a few yards out just missed the target.

T&T dominated Nicaragua physically as well with Rampersad, Kareem Moses and Aubrey David all using their six-foot frames to their advantage.

In the 26th minute, Auvray showed his skill just outside the box evading two defenders. After earning a foul, Joevin Jones wasted the free kick as the effort failed to find a T&T attacker.

Against the run of play, Nicaragua went in front in the 27th minute when Ariagner Smith headed home a cross from the right side.

A free kick in the 33rd minute from Jones 25 yards from goal was struck into the wall.

T&T striker Ryan Telfer was then fouled and Jones slotted home the penalty to the right of goal-keeper Miguel Rodriguez in the 40th minute.

Telfer again proved a handful as he was fouled at the edge of the box in first-half stoppage time, but Auvray’s free kick went over the crossbar as the teams were locked 1-1 at half-time.

In the 50th minute, Auvray showed speed and skill yet again to get past two defenders but his effort from a tight angle was saved by Rodriguez.

Seconds later, substitute Reon Moore dribbled into the box, but he was pushed into a tight angle and was forced to cross the ball. The ball eventually fell to Jones, who was outnumbered by defenders and lost the ball.

In the 57th minute, Smith made a run up the right side but his shot from inside the box went wide. In the 59th minute, Jamie Moreno had a chance to give Nicaragua the lead but T&T goal-keeper Nicklas Frenderup came out to narrow the angle and made the save.

Nicaragua enjoyed more possession in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

In the 69th minute, T&T head coach Angus Eve made two substitutions bringing on John Paul Rochford and Noah Powder for Auvray and Michel Poon-Angeron. The crowd was not pleased that Auvray was taken off the field. Triston Hodge was also introduced for Julien and Jones came off for Marcus Joseph.

T&T lacked the speed they demonstrated in the first half as they seemed to suffer from some fatigue.

T&T did not create chances as they did in the first half, but in the dying stages, substitute Marcus Joseph ran around the Nicaragua goalkeeper and slotted home.

However, he handled the ball and the goal was disallowed and the match ended 1-1.

Eve defends tactics vs Nicaragua in costly draw
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday)

SOCA Warriors head coach Angus Eve has defended his tactics, including the decision to start Tobagonian forward Rundell Winchester, in Monday's 1-1 draw with Nicaragua in the Concacaf Nations League, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.

Eve said Winchester, who has yet to score a national goal in ten years, looked lively in training and was the best option.

The draw ended T&T's hopes of being promoted to League A as Nicaragua topped Group C of League B with 14 points, one ahead of T&T. The result also saw Nicaragua qualify for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup in June.

T&T will now have to compete in the Gold Cup qualifying tournament which will be held days before the Gold Cup kicks off.

Winchester, who had just four caps in a decade, was surprisingly called up by Eve and given the nod to start against Bahamas on Friday, and again on Monday. Despite Bahamas' defensive deficiencies, Winchester failed to really trouble the goal and was hooked in the second half as T&T were comfortable 3-0 winners.

Against Nicaragua Winchester was substituted at half-time after another unimpressive showing.

Winchester got a golden opportunity to score in the first half after some impressive build-up play, but he missed the target from a few yards out.

Speaking to the media after the Nicaragua match, Eve explained why he chose Winchester. "He started the last game. He did not do badly, although he did not score. We felt that out of the strikers we had, he was the most in-form when we saw him in training so he got another opportunity today."

T&T forward Reon Moore has been a consistent threat for T&T under Eve with pace and trickery. He has also been finding the back of the net and was the only player to score in two friendlies vs the Reggae Boyz in Jamaica earlier this month.

Striker Marcus Joseph also looked more dangerous in his brief minutes off the bench and almost had the winner against Nicaragua, which was ruled a hand-ball. He should have had an assist against Bahamas but captain Joevin Jones missed a glaring one-on-one opportunity.

Despite T&T dominating possession in the first half, Nicaragua went ahead through a header from Ariagner Smith, in the 27th minute. Jones levelled the match with a penalty in the 42nd, after Ryan Telfer drew a foul.

Kaile Auvray, 18, was the standout player for the hosts in the first half with his passing and dribbling ability leaving the crowd in awe.

Wing backs Keston Julien and Shannon Gomez also provided attacking outlets to the team

Holding midfielders Andre Rampersad and Michel Poon-Angeron were also solid in the first half.

Eve said, "I thought both of them were good. Poon came on the last match and I thought he brought energy and he started to pass (the ball)."

Eve said playing Rampersad and Poon-Angeron allowed the wing backs to attack more. "Their (Rampersad/Poon-Angeron) primary roles is not that (attacking). We played two wing backs so they could go forward because they are more attack-minded than the other two wing backs."

As the T&T legs started to tire in the second half, substitutions were made that failed to address the breakdown in the midfield. The Soca Warriors settled for long, hopeful passes as the team lacked the cohesion demonstrated in the first half. Auvray, Poon-Angeron and an injured Julien were among those taken off.

Eve said the second-half effort was below par. "I think some of the players got a little bit tired because of all the travelling in a short space fo time, but at the end of the day I am very proud of the guys."

Eve was forced to leave out central midfielder Daniel Phillips from the starting XI as the English-based midfielder has an ankle injury. Midfielder Jomal Williams remained on the bench.

A player who might have been able to address some of Eve's midfield troubles was also unused – Duane Muckette. The central midfielder is playing for AC Port of Spain in the T&T Premier Football League but was not part of Eve's squad. Muckette's ability to retain possession with quick, short passing might have helped T&T who struggled against the midfield press of Nicaragua.

T&T enjoyed 61 per cent of the ball first half but their final count was just 51 per cent at the final whistle, after a disjointed second half.

Eve said it is unfortunate the team did not seal an automatic Gold Cup spot.

"Disappointed. We worked really hard to be in this position...I thought for the most part, the boys gave a fair effort, you can't fault any of them for trying and what they did tonight. It is just unfortunate.

"We did not lose the match, but we still lost the objective that we were trying to achieve."

The T&T players were constantly fouled in the first half as Nicaragua played aggressively and tried to trick the referee by diving. The Nicaraguan subs were also constantly off their bench complaining to the referee.

Eve was not pleased by the sportsmanship shown by Nicaragua.

"I think it was a match of nasty, dirty tactics. I thought the referee was very lenient on them...a lot of diving all over the pitch which was not good for the game at all today. We tried to pass, we tried to play. They definitely came here to play for a draw. They were playing five at the back in the first half."

Pull stones this is what happens when you play games and sabotage a society for personal gain, both jack and DJW, this is their legacy.
See how the forum is now dead as our fotball
the forum is dead because the people wise up and accepted the fact that supporting TT football is a wasted endeavor, at least this is my opinion.

People can’t continue on that roller coaster ride to nowhere, we experience a world cup then after that was chaos for the next ten years, then when we finally got rid of jack warner and things started looking up for TT football, then football fraternity went and replace mr timkee with another crook who wanted to own football (DJW)

And even when the man lose the election he turned around and sabotage football by having his replacement ousted by his friends in fifa, and now we football in a hot mess. you think people have the fortitude to deal with all that disappointment and mayhem?

The people fedup and they had it with this rubbish, from the stupid idiotic league where these local coaches continue to perpetuate this old 1950s style of football where players lack the basic skills like running with a ball properly glued to their feet, yet we celebrate these losers as good coaches, please.

when we get serious with football then the people will come back, but don’t hold your breath, because these people still don’t get it and I doubt they would anytime soon since is pure jokers who have a say as to how TT football move forward.

That was a professional display by Nicaragua they controlled the game from the 1st whistle the only way TT was going to score was with a set play A Eve had no answer for them and when he started taking off his best players it was game over that game needed players like J Williams and M W Ling.

Eve seems to do some scouting and prepare for the opening tactics of the opposing team. But why is he surprised at the dirty tactics of these Central Americans? That is who they are and how they play.

And he is quickly lost when having to adapt to changing conditions on the field. The difference between a coach and a tactician might not be apparent in practice but its huge in the clutch. Trinidad and Tobago has some great coaches. And zero great tacticians.

Eve rejects nasty, dirty Nicaragua tactics.
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian).

Monday’s 1-1 tie with Nicaragua at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago was a “game of nasty, dirty tactics” as described by national coach Angus Eve, that ensured the visitors go through to League ‘A’ of the CONCACAF Nations League as Group ‘C’ winner, as well as automatic qualification to the CONCACAF Gold Cup, next year.

However, it is not the end for the Soca Warriors qualifying for the Gold Cup. They will now have to go through the preliminary qualifying process.

Eve was in a bitter mood following the match, saying the referee was a bit lenient on the Nicaraguans.

“It was a match of nasty, dirty tactics. I thought the referee was very lenient on them, throwing a lot of football on the park, a lot of diving all over the pitch, which wasn’t good for the game today.

“I thought that we tried to play, but they definitely came here for a draw, they played with five in the back in the first half, and then they put on a defensive midfielder in the second half, and then we started to get some control of the game.

“I think, in the game for the most part, there were very limited opportunities for both teams, but we still had the better of the opportunities but we just didn’t take them.

“Now we have to qualify from the preliminary stages of the Gold Cup and we will not move up to the ‘A’ stage, instead we will stay in the ‘B’ grouping of the Nations League.”

CONCACAF released recently that 12 teams will participate in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifiers based on the results of the 2022-2023 CONCACAF Nations League. These teams are the four group third-place teams of 2022-2023 CONCACAF Nations League ‘A’, the four second-place finishers from League ‘B’ and the four group winners from League ‘C’, which will be involved in a draw on April 14.

The Soca Warriors lost to Nicaragua in their opening game in Managua 2-0 in June last year, and have now held them off 1-1 in the final match of Group C. Arianger Smith gave the Nicaraguans the advantage with a 27th-minute header before captain Joevin Jones equalised in the 40th minute from the penalty spot.

Eve said it was still a good performance by his charges, having put themselves in a position to seal the win in the group.

“It is a feeling of disappointment, we worked really hard to be in this position, I thought we had put ourselves in a really good position, we had the last game at home. We felt like we had a number of players who could have taken us over that line but.

“For the most part, the boys gave a fair effort, you can’t fault any of them for trying but it was just unfortunate, we did not lose the match, but we just lose the objective that we were trying to achieve.”

“There were a lot of positives, we scored and we created chances up until the end of the match. I think it augers well for football going football, we actually didn’t lose. I thought the fighting spirit of the team, we passed the ball well, I thought we moved the ball around well.

“I think some of the players were a little bit tired because of all the travelling in a short space of time but at the end of the day I am very proud of the guys and we still have an opportunity to qualify for the Gold cup.”

Eve noted that he will continue their plans as they move forward, saying he still wants to continue to develop the local players and get matches for them outside the window, as well as still trying to qualify for tournaments that they want to qualify for.

Injun, that is what Mike Grayson related to me. He said that tactic was not apt for the moment. If we had a two or three goals leading we can play that way. We needed to win the game. All them need is a tie. We needed constant precision attacking, not that slow build up. Wrong plan.

We had a size advantage in Winchester and Telfer, I woulda like to see some penetrating passes for them to knock down or shield and play to onrushing teammates. Also wanted to see Jomal out there, he is tricky and hard to keep up with

To me the brand is refreshing and in my opinion gives an extra option that allowed the type of penetration that led to the goal. My frustration with Eve was with the substitutions. The style depends on an Auvray, Jones or Poon (1st JA game but too deep deep since) who can receive the ball under pressure. hold it for a bit if necessary and spread it.  [The other attackers then feed off of that energy, so you would see more dribbles by a Telfer or a Moore]. Eve subbed all of them with players none of whom could replace that role but still (very unsuccessfully) the team tried to play in that style.  Still hopeful b/c despite his favorites [can somebody tell me why Roachford getting so many runs?, or what Kareem Moses doing on this team?], Molino sometimes and Levi would only add to that dimension.... and hopefully Eve is serious and all of the rumors of trini roots will bring in a handful more players.

Again Kounty, No issue with the brand. We had to win to qualify for GC and move out of Group B. We should have attack them constantly for first 20/25 mins. If the football eh pretty during that period, so be it. When we up 2 or 3, then switch to "nice football".

TT needs to be quicker in transitioning in the game. JJ is not a good attacking midfielder (I saw him play for the Seattle Sounders). He needs to be a left-back and Kaile Auvray left-wing. I think the CBs should be Keston Julien and Kareem Moses. I will put AJ (right-back) and Ryan Telfer (right-wing) on the right side of the pitch. In the middle of the field is very tough; I am not seeing any playmakers on the team. I guess Kevin Minlino can be the one. In his absence, I think Michel Poon-Angeron (needs to be more aggressive on the field regarding moving the ball forward) and Andre Rampersad (holding midfielder) take too long to make passes. We need Levi to be the center-forward (striker) on top, but I'll put Reon Moore upfront as center-forward if Levis is not around. I am not sure if Marcus Joseph needs to be the attacking midfielder. GK is [/b]Nicklas Frenderup

Players need to love their country and play their best on the field.

Squeaky-bum time for Soca Warriors
T&T Express

Stop complaining, Coachman, we’ve got to get into the Concacaf Gold Cup! In the words of Sir Alex Ferguson, it’s “squeaky-bum time”.

In that “final” against Nicaragua, a win would’ve sent us straight to the Gold Cup.

That is no time for ceremony, it doesn’t matter that Winchester is a Tobagonian, Reon Moore is the striker who got us the goal against Jamaica; he should be leading the line from kick-off.

When does a coach ever change a winning team? Alvin Jones is a goal-scoring right-back; recall that goal against USA in Couva. Hodge had an excellent game against Bahamas. Why change the full-backs?

If Jones’ primary position is left-back, why is he playing in the no 10?

It would’ve been a fair selection if he started at left-back and dropped into midfield as an inverted full-back like the Zinchenko role at Arsenal.

What does John Paul Rochford have to do to get a start? What does Justin Sadoo have to do to get a call-up?

So, you’re telling us the local batch that travelled to Jamaica only went for a sweat? To Eve an the backroom staff—do your homework on the tactics, and let the fans worry about the atmosphere. It’s Tobago. What kind of vibes you all expected to get?

Central American nations have always tried “Neymar-esque” shenanigans. No point complaining to the referees. We must outplay them regardless, and return the nasty streak equally.

Chin up, fellas. Look ahead—plenty of work to do. Expect Jamaal Shabazz to be trash-talking from all now. Let him say what he has to say, and let’s focus on our business and games ahead. We can only play against who’s in front of us.

We move on. Soca Warriors to the World!

Excellent article, I actually agree with 95% of everything you reiterated, but to no avail, because unfortunately I fear that your words will fall on deaf ears since no one who has the power to change the trajectory of the piss poor direction that football has taken over the years, will have any interest to take any immediate measures to repair football in this land.

I don’t know why you TT football fans can’t see that nothing will change in a hurry where sports in Trinidad and Tobago is concerned, because of all the self important big headed selfish rassholes who rush to lead but are void of ideas and technique to take sports into the 21st century.

Pretty soon dominica will be beating us left right and center, and hopefully maybe then….they just might wake up and smell the coffee….hopefully by then they get it and actually put the sport discipline first and foremost.

The man asked, "when does a coach ever change a winning team"...that said it all for me but I continued reading anyway :)
Alvin Jones is a baller, not sure if he's a 'goal-scoring' right-back...think Shannon has the upper hand for that right back spot.
Hodge is a tidy player (who talks to the refs too much) but he can't play in front of Keston...unless I'm missing something?
Rochford is also a tidy player, not really sure who he starts in front of in this team.
Justin Sadoo the man say yes...not because you know someone and they are a decent player, does it mean they are national material.
Clearly this fella hasn't followed Joevin since he went to Inter Miami and showed he's not up to playing left-back in the MLS...far less against Latin competition.

Trinidad and Tobago goes directly to the 2023 Gold Cup as Nicaragua is sanctioned by Concacaf
Concacaf.com

Concacaf has announced that its Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Nicaraguan Football Federation (FENIFUT) for a severe violation of the applicable FIFA/Concacaf regulations by fielding an ineligible player in eight Nicaragua Men’s National Team matches, including matches in the 2022/23 Concacaf Nations League (CNL).

In view of this serious breach of regulations, the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee has decided to exclude the Nicaragua Men’s National Team from competing in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup and to relegate them to League B of the 2023/24 CNL.

Because of the decision of the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee, the Concacaf Council has made the following determinations regarding the implications of this decision on the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup and the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League:

Trinidad and Tobago Promoted to 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago Promoted to 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup Group Stage and 2023/2024 Nations League A

The Senior Men’s National Team has been promoted directly to the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup Group Stage after the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) lodged a successful complaint against the eligibility of a Nicaraguan Football Federation player who competed in 2022 Concacaf Nations League matches.

On 12 June 2023, the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee sanctioned the Nicaraguan Football Federation for severe violation to the applicable FIFA/Concacaf regulations by fielding an ineligible player in multiple matches in Concacaf competitions.

After a 1-1 draw between Trinidad and Tobago and Nicaragua on 27 March 2023 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Nicaragua finished at the top of Group C, in League B, and qualified automatically to the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup and was promoted to League A for the 2023/2024 Concacaf Nations League.

However, Concacaf’s judgment now means Trinidad and Tobago, by virtue of being the team with the best second place overall finish of all League B teams in the 2022/2023 Concacaf Nations League, will replace Nicaragua in the 2023/2024 Concacaf Nations League A.

The other teams in Group A alongside Trinidad and Tobago are Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Martinique and Curacao. Success in League A of the 2023/2024 Concacaf Nations League, which begins in September 2023, earns a team qualification to the 2024 Copa America, which will be held in the USA.

Trinidad and Tobago will now also replace Nicaragua in Group A of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup and will no longer be required to compete in the 2023 Gold Cup Prelims on 16 June 2023 vs Guadeloupe.

The Angus Eve-coached team will now kick off its 2023 Gold Cup campaign with the following schedule of matches:

• 25 June 2023: Trinidad and Tobago vs the Winner of Prelim #9 – DRV PNK Stadium, Fort Lauderdale – 3:30 pm
• 28 June 2023: Jamaica vs Trinidad and Tobago – CityPark, St Louis – 6:30 pm
• 2 July 2023: USA vs Trinidad and Tobago – Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte – 7:00 pm

Commenting on the latest development, TTFA General Secretary Amiel Mohammed stated, “This is extremely exciting news for Angus, the team and the entire country!”

“We would like to thank Concacaf for their efforts in investigating this matter with the urgency that they have and look forward to a really amazing next few months for the Senior Men’s Team. This is where we want to be and we encourage all fans and stakeholders, far and wide, to rally around the team.”

This is Trinidad and Tobago’s second consecutive appearance at the Gold Cup, having also qualified in 2021.

Now that the team is in, they need some prep matches. The preliminaries were supposed to be preparation for the Gold cup. We need a team to play.

Their next stop is the CAS.

Yep. They might consider that. But I wouldn't be surprised if FIFA gives them a punishment. The Gold cup expulsion is from Concacaf not FIFA. FIFA may take that action if they try to fight it.

Nicaragua's argument is that FIFA is retroactively applying a policy. The background to that is before 2020 FIFAs naturalization period was 2 years. FIFA updated it to 5 years in 2020. With this, it sounds as if Nicaragua has a leg to stand on.

Now this is where Nicaragua loses. Under FIFA guidelines prior to 2020, the player was required
to spend two consecutive years in the country they are becoming naturalized. The player in question Rodriguez, moved to Nicaragua in 2018, and got citizenship under Nicaraguas naturalization process. Whatever that was. This took place in either 2018 or 2019. What this meant is that Rodriguez never did his 2 consecutive years under FIFAs guidelines.

To put the nail in the coffin, Rodriguez moved to Paraguay in 2019 for 5 months. Meaning that he never spent his 2 consecutive years in Nicaragua and that if he was to follow FIFAs guidelines, his naturalization period would be restarted when he returns to Nicaragua. However since the policy was changed to 5 years, the mix up lies here.

Finally, Nicaragua was apparently warned about this. This is where they are using circular reasoning. Nicaragua's argument is that Concacaf knew about this matter and did not tell them that it was illegal. BIG 😆.

I can't seen Nicaragua finding their way out of this. If they try to fight it at the CAS, FIFA will hand them a ban from all competition.
