PSV has committed center defender Dantaye Gilbert for two years, the Eindhovens Dagblad reported on Saturday morning. According to the medium, his arrival will be officially announced at a later date 'when the fire of the transfer storm has died down a bit'.

On Deadline Day, there was still talk of a possible arrival of CJ Egan-Riley in Eindhoven, but nothing has been heard of this. Eighteen-year-old Gilbert from Trinidad and Tobago must therefore replace the Burnley defender.

It is not the first time that Gilbert can be admired in Eindhoven. The defender has already done an internship in the past. He left a good impression there, so he was added to the selection of Jong PSV. He played during practice matches and showed to be valuable offensively as well as defensively. Currently, Gilbert still plays for San Juan Jabloteh from his native country.

Dutch giants sign T&T's Gilbert
By Ian Prescott (T&T Express)

TRINIDADIAN DANTAYE GILBERT will be presented tomorrow as a newly signed player at PSV Eindhoven, the top Dutch football club.

The Sunday Express was able to confirm that local agent Dion Sosa is handling Gilbert’s affairs and that the press conference announcing the newest European-based Trinidadian will take place tomorrow, from 5 p.m. (TT time).

Gilbert’s impending deal was announced in Holland by Rik Elfrink, a journalist at Eindhoven’s Dagblad, a daily Dutch newspaper based in the city of Eindhoven. Elfrink reported yesterday morning that just ahead of the close of the transfer window, the Presentation College schoolboy and former Trinidad and Tobago national Under-20 midfielder had been signed to a two-year deal with PSV.

“His arrival will be officially announced at a later date, ‘when the fire of the transfer storm has died down a bit’, Dagblad reported.

“It is not the first time that Gilbert can be admired in Eindhoven. The defender has already done an internship in the past. He left a good impression there, so he was added to the selection of Jong PSV (the club’s reserve team). He played during practice matches and showed to be valuable offensively as well as defensively. Currently, Gilbert still plays for San Juan Jabloteh from his native country,” Eindhoven’s Dagblad reported.

Gilbert was a W Connection youth player for three years, until joining Jabloteh as a guest player for a CONCACAF Under-14 club tournament, where he played alongside Jaheim Faustin. He was also a member of the T&T national Under-14 team coached by Stuart Charles-Fevrier, which included Molik Khan, Faustin and Nathaniel James. Gilbert was T&T’s joint-top scorer in the tournament, where they defeated Guyana 8-0 and also beat Curacao 2-0.

Last season, in the Secondary Schools Football League, he lined up with Presentation College and also played for Jabloteh in the 2023 Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League.

His coach at Jabloteh, Marvin Gordon was “elated,” about the news of his signing.

“He is one of the best midfielders at his age, 18, coming out of Trinidad and Tobago,” Gordon stated. “His attitude to work is right up there. He is a good student of the game.”

Gordon continued: “The sky is the limit for Dante. I think, once he doesn’t get any injuries, he would be one of the top players for Trinidad and Tobago.”

Gordon said that prior to Gilbert’s departure for Holland, he had been contacted by agent Sosa and offered points the players had to work on. Gordon said that he was confident that Gilbert would be signed, given where the Gilbert was as an 18-year-old.

Gordon added: “His attitude is great. He takes coaching instructions very well. I think the only weak point he has, and (I) said that of Lindell Sween as well, is that they tend not to work as hard when they are not on the ball.”

Jabloteh manager Phillip Fraser was also thrilled that the player was going to Europe and said that it would serve to inspire other youngsters from the club and throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

“Dante Gilbert was one who really used to do the extra work,” Fraser said.

PSV Eindhoven have been champions of the Dutch league, the Eredivisie, 24 times and also won Europe’s top club competition, the old European Cup in 1988 as well as the UEFA Cup in 1978.

Good luck youth. Remembered your performance as a 14 year old when Pres won the national intercol title in 2019.

Gilbert, 18, joins PSV with winning mentality
By Roneil Walcott (T&T Newsday)

FORMER Presentation College (San Fernando) and San Juan Jabloteh midfielder Dantaye Gilbert has signed a two-year deal with Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven. The 18-year-old Gilbert was unveiled by the 24-time Dutch champions on Monda and will initially join the PSV youth team.

The lanky Gilbert, who represented T&T at national youth level, has dreams of lifting the Uefa Champions League with PSV, and is intent on making the first team.

"This is a big moment for me and for my country. I feel good," Gilbert said, during an interview released by the club. (PSV) is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and it's a big thing for me, my family and the entire country of T&T.

"My plans (are) to make it to the first team, honestly. Obviously, I'll be starting with the Jong team and I want to make a good impression there," Gilbert said. "I'm enjoying my time here and I'm here to stay."

Silky in possession and languid in his style, Gilbert turned out for "Pres" in the Intercol competition of last year's Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) season. Gilbert helped Presentation to the south zone intercol final, where they lost on penalty kicks to eventual national intercol finalists, St Benedict's College.

Gilbert also represented the youthful Jabloteh team in the inaugural T&T Premier League season, scoring their first goal of the competition.

He described himself as an explosive box-to-box central midfielder, who likes to score goals and assist his teammates.

The teenager said he noticed the difference in intensity and quality the moment he got into the PSV setup.

"When I just came here on trial, I felt like everything was so different," Gilbert said. "The first few sessions at the club were super intense and different for me. They play at such a fast pace and everyone is so good, so I just had to fit in and be good also."

Gilbert longs to represent T&T at the Fifa 2026 World Cup, while he also has other lofty personal dreams as well.

"I hope to be a part of that (World Cup) squad to make the country proud," Gilbert said. "My biggest dream in football is to win as many trophies as I can. I want to start with the Dutch League, Champions League and personally, I want to win Ballon D'ors and Player of the Year – everything. I want to win everything it has to win honestly."

PSV, who have won the European Champions Clubs' Cup and Uefa Cup in their famed history, have been drawn in Group B for the 2023/24 Champions League season. They will play Arsenal, Lens and Sevilla in the group.

If Gilbert forces his way into the PSV first team, a Champions League debut could well be on his horizon.

good that youth got the opportunity. very glad for him, but hopefully he was not that #8 who was jogging around the park, strolling back on every goal highlight...else we might be hearing bout Tiger Tanks 2 seasons down the line.

He got a block in but the highlights failed to capture him sprinting even once. Must be a conspiracy to make him look bad. The chance for groningen at 80 mins was some well-crafted jogging back boy, with 2 free opponents ahead of him. He knew they wasn't goin and score.

What an amazing crowd for a reserves game

Ent yuh know that jogging back he did come just like when keepers don't even bother to dive when they know they can't reach the ball...the best players does do that too though.

Mr. Kounty had to highlight the little jogging from the seven minute clip, he eh mention when he forced his man to play it wide, and when he blocked the surety-goal!!! :)
