Birchill for Yorke is the answer. Put Daniel next to memum on the left with Colin samuel/ jagdeo on the left wing. Tinto on the right and let us bring yorke for the last twenty minutes to hold up the lead we will have.
Jlloyd samuel as right back with Abu bakr Tallest Avery. Ince in goal. S/A here we come.
KJ and Stern up front- with Glen as the super sub.
At some point yes - but CB is not ready to lead us in the middle of the park just yet. This is a forum full of passionate football people, so I am sure that common sense will prevail at some point with some of the remarks made here.
Yorke is the only player we have currently, with the ability to
lead, which makes him an automatic pick. He is able to settle our team down and instill a bit of confidence in our less experienced/talented players. The "frenism" theory is rubbish in my opinion and the call for him to come off the bench ..even more so. If he cannot play a full 90, then that is another question. The coach however must assess a players' impact on the game and make the appropriate adjustments. If the
situation calls for DY to play 90, then so be it. If the
situation calls for a different player in that role, then the coach inserts that player.
The game is a technical / tactical game..if you can execute the game plan with some consistency - you play...regardless of your age. Simple as that. We have too many players that are still developing in both areas (technical and tactical) ....or in other words...men that cannot consistently (simply) keep possession of the ball. Yorke has excelled at both for years. "Frenism" only applies when there is little or no justification for the pick. Yorke even in his golden years, is still a level above. Until one of our young players..emerges as that leader of men - then we have to live with 2 out of 5 sub-par performances from the
greybeard.
With regards to BC - his commitment to the team is unquestioned and in that light he is ahead of the rest in terms of being a leader on the field. To be honest, he should be the next captain. However, technically, he is not ready to feature in midfield. We cannot play through him, the way that we can with DY. Watching his game vs. AC Milan and against New York last week, I thought his passing while accurate, was not effective. He needs to develop some
pause in his game.
Pause (see Pirlo, Deco, 'Dihno, Latas) is basically not settling for the first pass you see, when you have time and space to take an extra touch and survey the field for better options. As a center mid, your job is to link the 3rds and put players in a position to do something positive with the ball. Look at DY - how often is he rushed into making an inaccurate or ineffective pass? ... look at our other players and ask the same question. The answer would be very few to too often.
Bottom line is that if Yorke is deemed match fit - then he should play until he is no longer effective. The younger players on the team have to raise their games, so that if DY is off..a high level of play can be sustained.
What we need to do is understand and replace the players that are generally ineffective. Play the men that have technical and tactical awareness...even if they are played out of there normal positions. Players are players, if they are comfortable on the ball, they can play ANYWHERE on the field.
Who are our most technical and tactical players?
