Wow! Bold move by Fenwick, the man has backbone and some balls. I agree this kind of approach by clubs will do our football well in the future. Its a professional sport and men must either be good enough or not its black and white. no more favouritism. I applaud Jabloteh and Fenwick on this one here especially bringing in the youngsters. Fenwick is smart. He wants winners not favourites. To bring five U20 players into any pro league team one time is a big move. thats the future of TT football comin through right there. we need this.

Mexico put ah 19 year old on de field last night against us and he did well. Why cant TT do the same if we could only give the youngsters and chance like Jabloteh is doing maybe next time we might have a few good youngsters on de squad.

2 -0 I said and 2-0 it was. I even tried to predict the times. I should have posted it.
 I warned about Medina's midfield skils and accuracy and he had their best shot of the game ( the one Jack could not hold) and their best free kick. I also indicated that their guys were tall muscular but ordinary,....I was right.

I hope its not about money though thats what I heard and keep hearing. All I know is that the night before the Panama game during that warm up Jack was looking sharp and Ince was letting in a some easy shots from Yorke, Jones and Andrews.

I just looked back at the pictures I took that night and I realised I have about three pics of him getting beat or picking the ball out of the back of the net while I have none of Jack getting beat so maybe Beenie saw something. Anyway I keep hearing that its because of the money but I dont wanna speculate and be unfair to the guy so lets see what the true story is come tomorrow.

I'm happy to be doing my part to help and promote the warriors! Any little I can do will be most welcome I am sure. I am very flattered by what the Wrexham site did though ( if I had known they were going to quote me I would have used my best Queen's english rather than say "drag de keeper").

But hey all is well here in T&T for tonight and we should give the warriors the praise they deserve. They should be pruod of Edwards too, he forced them to change their game by making them afraid to attack down their left because he was such a counter attacking threat. Our first three goal attempts ( and Stern's goal) all came from his side of the pitch.

He looks a bit chubby indeed but its not really so from up close. He just looks a bit slow attacking the ball though.

I was in the covered stands too. The ruckus in the stand was actually among some T&T fans ( not the panamanians) but it was right in front of where the panamnian group waas sitting.

Lawrence started and finished the move that resulted in his goal. Only two men touched the ball after he won in at the top of his box i.e him and Yorke, thats what made it so special.

Trinidad started nervously and gave too much respect to Panama.

Pamana was really easy to read, they were always going to try to get the ball to Roberto Brown at his feet on the run but they were always coming directly down the middle - with little or no crosses into the TT box Jack was just limin witha scramble here and there and hno direct shots until that save late in the second half

Whitley was underused in a defensive midfield role to which you could see he was struggling at first to get accustomed but after a few messed up plays he got his act together and showed his class. I think we could have beaten them more badly had he been in a more attacking position looking for that back pass from Yorke and lickin shot after shot from de top of the 18 fuh e.g fuh Stern to get rebound

I think Beenie will know he needs some more hustling defensive midfield against the mexicans who also so not rely heavily on crosses but tend to bring the ball to foot early. I think he must let Birchall sit back a bit and Whitley attack them a bit more than he did tonight. We stayed back a lot and took much more pressure than we needed to.

I really think that we gave Panama too much credit than they actually deserved. They are a good team but a PFL team in form like Jabloteh would probably hit them for 3 because they are very vulnerable in defense.

We defended quite compactly but too many times Panama was allowed to play with that ball and stroke passes around the top of our 18 yd box. A few hard tackles and sweeps early onshould send a message that we mean busines in that Mexico game and force them off their game early or we gun be chasing ball whole night.

Sorry.

Yorke - 9 ( played like he was afraid to lose - like a man possessed - he was pushed around alot and bullied but fellas he left his heart on the pitch there tonight - I was very impressed- he was a true warrior tonight - a true captain - all i could say is - Yorke is back)

And yes Triniman I said it last night and I will say it again - Panama is a very ordinary team- watch the tape of this match and you will agree with me. We could have easily taken them for 5 goals tonight.)

Birchall was good but Lawrence was the best! You had to have seen that goal man that was real genius. I have seen the guy struggle against Mexico but tonight he made that play like he was a forward. If yuh see de drag! Wow ah still cyan believe it.

Football / Dennis Lawrence - A perfect game?
« on: June 04, 2005, 06:58:42 PM »
I was there! I saw it. There is no such thing as a defender having a perfect game but Dennis Lawrence came darn close.I could not bear to bury my praise for his composure tonight in the middle of 200 posts on the game. He deserves to be recognised as a true champion a true warrior tonight. He stood out only a few notches above his captain though as Yorke had a game of his life. Easily it is the best goal I have seen by a Trinidadian by far.

After winning the ball at the top of his 18 yd box he faked a pass to Whitley and held unto to the ball for two more strides before making a nest pass to Yorke ( I believe it was in left midfield) who held off an attacker to pass the ball back into centre field for an on rushing Lawrence who had not stopped running like a man possesed. With the grace and elegance of a gazelle he outpaced the goalkeeper to the ball, then with the finesse of a composed striker drag de goalkeeper and a defender with a right footed inside scoop and stroked the ball in with his weaker left foot. GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL de people went mad! I still cyan believe wat ah see! I just believe thet T&T needs to keep the ball some more against such inferior opposition. Well done Warriors, well done Beenie! I will leave the match reporting for the guys like Andre Samuel and them who know how to write. I will just give you my ratings of performance tonight.

Jack - 8 ( had one great fingertip save in the 84th minute)
Lawrence - 10* ( I never believed he was worth a look but now I know the guy is a warrior)
Andrews - 8 (After the injury he received treatment for he was not as big a boss as he was the 30 or so minutes before. Best pass was a long diagonal one to Edwards in the second half - that was beauty)
Avery - 7 ( Make the passes quicker Avery yuh killing de game and taking too much pressure)
Theobald - 7 (Same as Avery - just pass it quicker bruds)
Whitley - 7 (nervous start had a few early turnovers but was quickly back to his best)
Birchall - 7 (maybe my expectations were too high but sometimes he got lost in the game)
Ewards - 8 ( You will be a big star - sometimes you need to take your own chances son you had at least three to trouble the keeper with but didnt take it)
Stern - 7 ( three fluffs and one easy goal- yuh is meh boy yuh good but you capable of much better)
Jones - 6 - ( hungry but sometimes too hungry that yellow was unnecessary)
Charles - 7 - ( did well you will get much better)

From the way he looked last night, Yorke looks like he is ready to hit them really hard. De man was really serious and hard on his teammates boy especially the ones that missing and the crosses from the left (Tiger/Densil/Rojas). He was cussing them like deh owe him money.

I think that if he brings this same attitude into the game tonight i dont care where he plays, he looks like get bound to get one and ah hope he does ( well at least two would not be bad form him given that he owe we a few).

Actually I dont have them uuploaded to any website so I guess I cant post them. Sorry about that.

Thanks anyway, but I can tell you that I saw the finishing drills and from the way it looked Jones, Edwards, Yorke, Tiger and Andrews looked very sharp and motivated.

Stern was fluffing shots and header left right and centre and so too was Sam ( who had only one good finish  but perhaps de best fuh de night) and just about everybody else hitting way over de bar and missing simple tap ins. I think they will be hearing it from Beenie tonight on that one time he ask Rojas to cross and send everybody to meet the cross and surprise the goalkeeper, yuh know Rojas put de ball straight in de keeper hands with he whole team waiting fuh de cross - he too get surprised. Anyway I am sure they will turn on de style tomorrow but they have to settle down and finish as cool as Yorke Jones and Dog was doing tonight. Rahim had one very slick finish too but that was all. Whitley and Birchall were struggling a bit with getting it past the keeper but Beenie and Jonk was trying to talk them into a more aggressive mood.

Most of them found de goalkeeper too often for Beenie man's liking and he was trying to get them to be more aggresive in the finishing without trying to look embarassed because the media was there. At one time de man called for two goals and had to wait a good while before de first one came. Jones looked menacing though like he really wants this and Yorke was cussin them urging them on and puttin down some cool finishing - de man look good boy like he could put two past them. I thnk Jones look like he ready to make a mark too and Stern must be thinking he cyan havetwo bad days in a row.

I also saw the Panawussies practice and only the short blonde midfielder medina was lookiing good and roberto brown looked okay, medina is a man to watch he has a very accurate cross and looks good on dead balls regardless of the distance but otherwise their team looks like all musclar and fit but very ordinary.

We all should be proud becasue its like a Jabloteh 'Trini' team beat ah 'Brazilian' team because they have so many Brazilians playing for them now that is good to know that we cud hold we own

Looks like Jabloteh have responded well to this new coach's style of play and as a team have regained their confidence enough to go beat ah team like dat on deh own turf but i guess it just shows the kind of quality we have in the PFL indeed.

From the what I read of it the game was like a real tactical battle on the pitch and men went die-hard fuh de win some dat kinda spirit and passion Trinidad national team will need on Saturday.

Good point. Weather is a big factor. I've played in England in some of those conditions you describe including weather so cold that the mini-afro hair on my head appeared to be steaming the whole time and I can tell you boy the only time you really needed to do any serious running with the ball was in the offensive third of he pitch whenever u had those kinda conditions.

BTW - Its still my opinion that the EPL is the best and best marketed for 2004-2005. Its hard not to see entertainment (Arsenal in attack), defensive toughness (Chelsea) and demands on physical strength ( u dont even get a breack for christmas) in the EPL.

It is all a far cry from Forlan's miserable two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, where he had to wait eight months and 27 games for his first goal.

Forlan appears to have settled much better at Villarreal than he ever did in Manchester after his £7.5million move in January 2002.

He has also built up a better understanding with his team-mates - particularly playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme - with many of his goals coming from around the six-yard box, his goalscoring instincts have returned.

Perhaps Forlan has found a more homely atmosphere in Spain. At Villarreal, the club president Fernando Roig has brought together what amounts to a small South American family.

Coach Manuel Pellegrini is from Chile and with Forlan included, there are nine South Americans at the club.

and as if to prove my point about Forlan and Thierry Henry here is what BBC.com says this morning:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/4593173.stm

Henry and Forlan win Golden Shoe
 EUROPE'S TOP SCORERS

1= D Forlan (Villareal) 50pts
1= T Henry (Arsenal) 50pts
3= S Eto'o (Barcelona) 48pts
3= C Lucarelli (Livorno) 48pts
3= M Mintal (Nurnburg) 48pts
6 F Tekke (T'zonspor) 46.5pts

2 points, 1.5 or 1 point awarded per goal depending on quality of domestic league
Villarreal's Diego Forlan and Arsenal's Thierry Henry and will share the Golden Shoe award for being this season's top goalscorers in Europe.

Ex-Manchester United striker Forlan scored twice on Sunday for his Spanish team to join Henry on the 25-goal mark.

Henry becomes the first player to win the award two years in a row.

It is only the second time it has been shared. In 1989/90 Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov and Mexican Hugo Sanchez were the joint winners.

Henry is the sixth player to win the award twice, joining such legends as Eusebio and Gerd Muller.

Forlan's double came as Villarreal beat Levante 4-1 to clinch a spot in the next season's Champions League.

  Well done Forlan - why couldn't he do it at Man Utd?

"It's been an incredible season and we couldn't have finished it in better style," the Uruguayan said.

"I'm very happy to have ended up as top scorer as it is something that doesn't happen every day.

"Qualifying for the Champions League is a prize that we all deserve as we worked hard for it throughout season."

Good point Tallman. Outside of the fact that the EPL was better this year than La Liga there are some reasons why Forlan did so good this year in La Liga:

 1. More than 70% of his goals this year came around the six yard box. At ManU he was not allowed to poach there beecause that was Van Nistelrooy's poaching ground. Ferguson made his play to a different game on the wings;

2. Juan Roman Riquelme - he and Forlan understand each other very well and in fact Forlan relied on Riquelme for most of his final passes - Riquelme has the most assists on the Villareal team. Riquelme was to Forlan this year what Savo was to Dwight at Aston Villa - a provider;

3. Forlan himself said that the pace of the EPL was too much for him. He prefers Spain where they play more south american and defenders stay back and man get space to dribble and weave whole day and spin and turn and do tricks and short passes - not so in the EPL ( Thierry Henry and Arsenal excepted - the guy is just a legend and the team just has a good short passing rhythmn going);

4. He plays almost exclusively inside for Villareal while he was always put on the left or right wing by Ferguson and invited to take the 18 yd shots whenever he could. He has both feet is quick and has a nice dipping shot from long range but at Villareal he re-discovered what made him so lethal at Independiente - his inside nippy play.

The guy was just playing with the wrong team in England and playing a brand of football that did not match his style.

I watch all the major leagues inculding Argentinian, Brazilian, Dutch, French, EPL ect. I dont discriminate. Beckham and Owen will say La Liga is the best because thats where they are earning. They went to RM for the glitx and glamour of being called a 'galactico'.  But Figo recently said he wants to go EPL next year because its better there.

 I think the EPL has the more competitive games because they do not allow the space that La Liga allows during play and a lot more technically sound players are migrating there but not all of them are finding it to be a walk in the park. Morientes is a good example. with Real Madrid or Monaco he would be bossing the play but not in the EPL. The spanish players are technically good but not better than the dutch . However when it comes to league, today, the EPL is the best and has the most technically gifted striker in the world Thierry Henry while La Liga has the best techincally gifted player in the world in Ronaldinho. Yet nether of their teams made it to the finals.

But, players alone dont make leagues, it is strong teams and quality of play and coaching make leagues and i think with the impact of chelsea this year it is easy to see why the EPL can claim the title now. Two years ago it was Italy, last year it was Spain, this year its all English.

They need to focus on developing youth talent all over the country now even while the new facility is being built. We are losing many youths to crime everyday all parts of the country.

Thanks Tallman. I'm new to this. These are some excellent photos i visited their site and had a look at the others. Congrats to Jabloteh and Noray.

Good point Triniman. Youth should feed Super leageu and Super leage should feed Pro League with talent. I think they should use some of the money for that new stadium/sports complex to pay for player development all over the country, train coaches and create very competitive junior leagues NOW. Distract dem idle young men from crime now. No sense we build a big white elephant first. We already have stadia. train de youths while yuh building more stadia or we will continue to lose young talent.
