Observer
As usual your comments are well balanced but surely even you must realise that we are not talking about the best player in barcelona but the best player in the world. I remember when maradona and 10 other players, only one of whom made the world select 11 after they won the WC, did just that won the WC.
my point was the analysis failed to analyse the impact of the world´s best player. Read it again please.
you know that the best players in the world always come good on the biggest occasions ...that´s why they are so called.
I never attempted to pick a winner here ...My team is the other spanish team in the competition ( not Real )
I really dont care who wins as long as Villareal beat rangers and move on , but class is class. You know regardless of the talk you dont leave out despers in ah panarama !
Sorry non T&T forumites ...I just couldnt resist that plug.... do de reseach

Rahim have real supporters here but if yuh was he partner and true friend you woulda tell him like it is..................Brent hard luck doe last for so long with so much teams.

Yuh lil shitty and yuh cyar cut it as a professional, yuh gettin ole and its time to move on in life.

Yuh have a degree and yuh high brown in colour, doe frighten yuh could get a wuk with some connections.

For all who say he good and he was the next Latapy and have talent......ask yuhself this, what really has Rahim done for TT.

He had one good half against Canada in a friendly under bertille St Clair way back when, what piece of brilliance he do since.

truth be told players with more ability than he get discarded, is everybody does give Rahim a chance and he never step up he game.

He becoming like a Nigel Pierre.....one setta trials and training stint and nuttin, but he have potential.

Mr. Rahim, football gave you an education, employment, the opportunity to run some hoes and travel the world. Its time to say thanks for the Blessings and look to move on to life after football.

touches you put it real plain but you are right all the way. Some are cut out for the big stage others are not. Plenty horses break de track record at exercise but when the bugle calls they trail.
rahim is not an international footballer and he would do well to heed your advice.

Yes i remember tallest qualified first among the guys. says a lot for dual nationality. Worked for ¨Me mum ¨ ...works for us too. maybe one day England would be trying to nationalise a trini player to play for them ??

They already did.  His name is John Barnes.  Qualifies as such through his Trinidadian father.
could be wrong here but I think it is jamaica rather than trinidad who was poached but point is well taken

In the overall scheme of things I do not think this game is about "the world best player" Everyone knows he will be present. This game is about teams and Mourinho will not play a 4-4-2. he will stick with his 4-3-3 which converts to a 4-5-1 defensively content to let barca play in front of them and hit on the break. He knows very well that if Ronaldinho and Messi play with Eto, he will outnumber Barca in the midfield. Why? Because his players do double duty, while Barca's players play higher up the pitch. Barc's will continue to defend high up the pitch, it is the Dutch way (Rjkaard) and this could be to their death, like it was in 2005. Unless Rjkaard has learned his lesson.

It is indeed about the world´s best player ! Do you think the chicago bulls would have won so many titles withouit MJ or Argentina in 78 without Kempes or in 86 without Don Diego.
Did you see Barca´s last game when Ronaldinho came back ? Do you realise how many of their goals he was involved in ? Compare their performances when he was not there .Go and look again at  Ronaldinho´s single handed destruction of Real madrid last year .... the Real madrid fans applauded him after the game ...a rare treat only allowed the great maradona before him in the history of the two clubs.
Is T&T the same without latapy or yorke ? come on man when two teams are fairly evenly matched as these two it is the MVP who makes the difference.
Even brazil wont discount ronaldinho and they are the world Champions.
Did you read Ranieri´s comment today on Messi as well ? I am afraid i must disagree with you, world class players in every sport make the difference to their teams and make their teams great. If you are a Chelsea fan you disregard Ronaldinho tying his shoelaces on the field at your own peril. what ever he does is important to the team.

The only player that could replace Latapy is Rahim.
I putting you down to ABC after this comment ...Rahim ????
Probably the most travelled player not on the team ! gets his opportunities because he does not have to meet the 75% quota that the other players do....except green card Stern. I guessbritish passport helps !!!
Couldn´t even make the Falkirk reserve team ?? In fact couldn´t stay on any team long enough to belong ...he will replace latapy or Jones if injured ???
Hardest and Dwarika who it seems will never get their chance to prove anything are world´s better at fullfilling the above.

As you mentioned british passports. I saw for Carlos Edwards on his player profile on either BBC or Soccernet his nationality was listed as English. I didn't realise he was in Britain for so long. Probably Lawrence also.

eh people doh like to hear d truth boy especially triniadians my youte let them hush dey backside is real biasness wee
 :bringiton:

typical trini style ....crabs in de barrel syndrome . we bringing down each other depending on whether we from North or South but we team not doing too well ...but who cares about dat !
I will keep making the point that putting the futre of our young footballers in the hands of inexperienced locals is not doing it for us ....

I think the analysis fails to mention the impact the world´s best player would have on the game ! look again at the scant courtesy that Ronaldinho gets in the analysis.
Messi, the world´s best young player by International poll is also mentioned as an aside.
Lampard however who lost out to Ronaldinho on the international award is treated like the star.
Lampard is not top drawer by world standards !!!!
Robben is world Class so is Crespo ! If Lampard was from any other coiuntry but England many more people would see that he is good but not world class.
Ronaldinho was not even mentioned as a goalscorer from free kicks.
I back argentina and therefore hold no brief for any brazilian exxcept this brazilian is the best player in the world ...surely that tips the balance in favour of his team ...dont get me started on Diegito Messi !!!

POINTMAN and ALL who support JACK,
can I ask you all very personal question

I suspect that ALL of you have JOBS, Right!!!

Now in your job you are known as the BEST employee that your company has had in its HISTORY!!!
with me so far

Now over the time with your company you have been using your position to get company supplies to take home, been using your FAME to get things that no other employee can get and you are scamming your company of profits.

One day your company finds out!!!!!!

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD and WILL HAPPEN ???

I rest my case
Have a great day

It depends on who is judging de case ! If is Blatter or any of the other FIFA cronies ....sorry for de inconvenience sir but we had to put up a show...hope you were not too bothered by the inconvenience ? ! life´s like that as the readers digest say..there is a world of difference between right and wrong but it depends on which side of the fence you stand. let me finish your story .....If the best worker earned you millions last year ??? ...it changes things a bit doesn´t it ??

Maradona and Careca !

3254
In my opinion the 4 bess defenders for us would be

Grey            Sancho                Hoyte                Samuel

if we get hoyte and samuel and sancho starts playin more first team ball, this will be the defense bc sancho is much better than dog and tallest, hes quicker, better with the ball at his feet and can pass and possess.

Vibes It Up

I am a bit confused by the title of this post although I respect the suggestions ......take the warriors to victory in the world Cup ?? Is that in all games ?? one game ?? against who ?
I see we are still thinking  ¨we could pick ah strong team and beat anybody wid dat team ¨!  Surely we should have learnt that we pick a team based on our opponents. It is no secret that Paraguay are vulnerable to the cross ball but I wouldn´t say that England is ... So lawence may be important in providing more room for Yorke etc at set pieces etc against paraguay than England or sweden..... you know that sort of thing ...
I dont think beenie will have the same fixed line up for all games because the teams we are facing have different caharacteristics..

3255
Trinidad and Tobago started the game playing a 4-4-2 system. The starting line up featured:-

Thorn Holder- Goalkeeper

Backline-Marshall, Hislop, Akil and Carlon

Midfield-Neaves, Belgraves, khalim, Hayden tinto

Forwards-Randy patterson (new player), kevin Crooks

The first half was a very sloopy encounter with Trinibago looking like a team that did not know anything about the game. Changes were made and with that came some improvements. The team played a total of 3 halves.

In the last 3rd, which happened to be the best 3rd of the game, Gorian Highley and Kevon Neaves light up things for Trinidad. They switch to a 3-4-3 formation with Jermin, Highley and Patterson starting up top. Keaves had a rocket well saved from 30 yards out and minutes later Gorian nearly scored from a cross ball. The cross came across from the right hand side, Higley stretch and made contact with his left foot driving a shot low and hard down in the corner but the keeper was up to the task.

The defence was outstanding in the last 3rd and only allowed 1 goal against a solid MLS team which was Anchored by Hislop and Marshall. The lone goal came from a mix up between defenseman Hislop and  goalkeeper Holder. That left a unmark Fire player to tap it into a open net.

The next game is tomorrow. The guys are very confident and relaxing tonight with card games in the camp. They all believe that they would play better tomorrow. Ancil Farrier will join the camp tonight. He had missed his flight due to a snow storm watch.

Final score: - Trinidad and Tobago under 21 team 0
                  Chicago Fire 1

 :beermug:
Thanks for the report ...you got me there with the three halves though...

Football / Re: which WC group is the group of death ?
« on: February 12, 2006, 06:44:58 AM »
group of death is the arg, holland, ivory coast & serbia group

I would say that that group has two teams that should be in the 2nd round and 2 outside bets.

The US, Czech, Italy, Ghana group on the other hand has three teams that should be there and then Ghana who are a good outside bet for the 2nd round.
this is the point I was making ... even the odds makers hold this point of view. the results may prove entirely different but it do not change predictions based on ¨pedigree ¨or history .

It is really nice to hear words of encouragement from him.

The Cameroonian team that played against Russia in 1994 was a somewhat fractured team.   Imagine before the match, some of the players were still on strike, because they were not yet paid allowances that should have been paid months earlier.

In 1994, one of the songs that introduce me and a lot of folks to soukous was ``Pepe Kalle -- Roger Milla.’’  Milla  inspired footballers and musicians.  The song is one of the best football/dance songs of all time.

Is there a candidate for our Roger Milla?

If you talking throughout the tournament as opposed to just one match then I'd go with Mario Kempes who had a stellar performance in d 78 WC as well as Maradona in 86. And I aint no Argentina fan but dem fellas had great tournaments from d start culminating in lifting the World Cup.
true but I was referring to a single game performance.

So the teams in this group are evenly matched ??  is that because they all have world class players or have met world class opposition ? I´m sorry the confederation cup must have gotten their entries wrong forgetting to include ivory coast, holland and serbia montenegro. The european championship should be scrapped too as a form guide i suppose ?

I wasn't commenting on the group. It's a difficult group....goup of death ? who knows.....

I was commenting on you saying that a group of death is based on history and pedigree........I don't necessarily agree....Imagine a hypothetical group in a tournament with Mexico-USA-Denmark & Japan..... could be considered a group of death, because it's tough to guess who would progress......even though none of the teams "historical pedigree".......see what I'm saying ?

Dont get me wrong i am not predicting scores . Maybe to make my point clearer I can refer to the odds of teams winning the world cup. Dont you think they use head to heads, number of times a team has qualified etc. to arrive at that. How do you think they arrived at groupings ?...that is what i mean by pedigree.

Mexico, Iran, Angola, Portugal

Angola in a group of death also I would say, Mexico best in CONCACAF, a team that have Brazil's number, Iran best in Asia (with Korea) and Portugal will be a dread squad this year, with Scolari as dey coach

tell meh is dem in de world cup?

dred dis man head gone awa?

Euro Cup doh really prove nuttin
Greece win the Euro Cup yeah but they get burn in de Confed Cup and didn't even come close to qualifying fuh Germany, even in friendlies dey struggling

Is only for so long that kinda cheap style of play will work for

exactly and jai john want tuh say da is all about pedigree.

What about Senegal vs France.

France proceeding to get knokced out

and de man was trying to use Euro as an example of why pedigree counts.

 ::)
Well based on your argument there is no group of death since upsets can and will happen. If we are to decide however which teams are likely to make the second round dont you think past records are a good indication of that ? I mean does Brazil go into the WC as an unknown or as Brazil...you get my point.
upsets are just that, occurances that go against the predicted scoreline and cant be used as a basis for anything.

Football / The finest world cup tournament performance by a player
« on: February 11, 2006, 11:00:39 PM »
This is not a discussion about who is the best player as  that topic is a road march. Instead i would be intersted to find out what folks rate as the single stellar performance during a world cup tournament by any named player.
my favourite would be Eusebio´s comeback performance to lead Portugal to victory against North korea when they were 3 goals down. Pele´s final performance against sweden comes in close but brazil were comfortably ahead in goals and skill. This is of course a  subjective thing as who is to say which is the greatest. It does open the memory a bit though.

GOOD POINT
I think when we examine the other groups we might find that quite a few are more evenly matched than the group with Ivory coast.

Football / Re: Why change the BEENHACKER plan ?
« on: February 11, 2006, 10:40:42 PM »
The model that Lincoln Phillips is using is the same one being used by the US.  Beenhakker's plan is more short-term  and seeks to identify players who can immediately fit into a national team. With Phillips plan it's actually revamping the system from the youngest level and thus raising the overall quality and standard of play withing the country.

JaiJohn you said you agreed with Corneal being an assistant coach .....did you see any of the games that the U-17 team he was in charge of play???? If possible go back and look at those game and tell me if he's unsuccessful at the youth level how then can he be successful at the senior level?

I think you missed my point entirely as i was not disagreeing with you on the results of any of our coaches. That´s why I was suggesting that they be placed in the understudy category, be it corneal , la foucade etc with an experienced coach as the head. we seem to be forgetting that this system was used in the old days with great success. ASL and st bennedicts and st augustine school teams were good examples.

Football / Re: which WC group is the group of death ?
« on: February 11, 2006, 10:30:17 PM »

Ha,  but you know WC is about history and pedigree.

a group of death is about evenly matched teams where it would be difficult to predict who would progress to the next round....regardless of history and "pedigree"....

It might be about "pedigree" to people who don't follow the game closely, and make predictions in ignorance based on pure name
