2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: LOOKING FOR ACCOMODATIONS IN FRANKFURT
« on: March 27, 2006, 05:30:29 PM »
If you're after hotels for the T&T games, you might find this page helpful:

The World Cup in Germany - Hotels for T&T games

The links on that page, e.g. "Dortmund 10th July", will bring up a list of hotels within a 50km radius of the venue with vacancies that night, listing the cheapest hotels first.

There is also a list of towns on that page that are within easy reach of the venue by train, plus the time of the last train out of the host city at night.

Hope you find that helpful ... if you've got any specific questions, just post them here and I'll try to help.

2006 World Cup - Germany / FIFA announce ticket portal details
« on: March 09, 2006, 12:46:17 PM »
They finally announced how this is going to work today ... basically you can sell unwanted (as if!) tickets back to them, buy returns from them and, subject to certain conditions, transfer tickets to another named person.

However, there is no formal 'swap' facility ... and they've stopped calling it an 'exchange'.

Full details are on the page below, at the foot of which there is also a link to ourworldcup.com.  If you agree that 8% of the tickets available for fans of each of the 2 teams at each match is too low, please take a moment to add your name to their petition.

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: Which City Should I stay in

Hi Slade,

No.  German Rail trains don't run all night... however, in most cases the gap between the last and first train is only about 3-4 hours.

The German Rail journey planner is here: German Rail

You'll also find some useful info on rail links to the 3 cities here:

The World Cup in Germany - Kaiserslautern by Rail

The World Cup in Germany - Nuremberg by Rail

Hope that's helpful.

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: Car Rental or Train
« on: February 21, 2006, 04:16:55 AM »
For car rental, you might want to look at company called InterRent (see The World Cup in Germany - Car hire)... they're a no frills subsidiary of Europcar (which is in turn 100% owned by VW).  They only hire out VW Golfs, they only have secondary locations and the cars have an InterRent ad down the side ... BUT, the hire prices start at 8.99 euros a day!  I've hired one for 22 days (with fully comprehensive insurance as an added extra) for 422 euros.

As for trains, the standard 'Bahncard' is indeed intended for German commuters, but there are several other passes you can look at - different passes apply depending on whether you are based in T&T or in Europe.  The details are listed here: The World Cup in Germany - Travel / Rail.

Frankfurt's a good choice - very central and good communications links. 148 miles to Nuremberg, only 69 to K-Town and 143 to Dortmund (train times: 2 hrs 5 mins, 1 hr 40 mins and 2 hrs 38 mins respectively). Also easy for you fly into from Canada.  If you fly into London first, consider using Ryanair for the final hop, into a little airport called 'Frankfurt-Hahn' ... it's 90 minutes out of downtown Frankfurt, but the airfares tend to be very cheap (many of the cheapest have, however, already gone for this summer!).

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: Ticket Swap
« on: February 21, 2006, 03:45:48 AM »
e-man, thanks for the link!  Here's an update:

There's an interview this morning on the German section of the FIFA website with one of the OC 'vice presidents' about the ticket portal. won't bore you with most of his waffle, but here are the salient points:

He believs 99% of all ticket holders will retain their tickets, the portal is to take account of the 1% who don't.

Tickets can be returned to FIFA on the proviso that FIFA is able to resell them.

"Likewise it will be possible in certain cases to have personalised tickets transferred to another person. This naturally applies above all within families and in the event of illness."

Yes, there will be fees. "Full details will be given on March 9th in Frankfurt. We have fought on behalf of the fans for modest ticket prices, which also include all other costs, such as local transport, taxes, advance sales and handling fees. However, additional services can only be provided via additional fees. After all, changing a flight booking works on the same principle."

Interestingly, the interview also notes that someone who has bought tickets on e-bay in Germany (880 euros for 2 x 55 euro tickets) is taking FIFA to court to have them forced to allow him to have the name on the tickets changed. FIFA, of course, say that "... it would be grotesque for us to be forced to agree to the transfer ... this goes against the principle of fair play". The court is due to rule on April 20th.

Football / FIFA 4th Phase Ticket Sale
« on: February 12, 2006, 06:12:47 AM »
Sorry if this has already been posted, but I think it's a new announcement that FIFA have only made today (Sunday).  Finally they've published some details of the 4th phase of ticket sales due to start on Wednesday.  Here's the announcement in full:

The fourth sales phase for 2006 FIFA World Cup™ match tickets opens on 15 February 2006 at midday (CET). "First come, first served" applies to sales during this period, i.e. applications will be processed in the order they are received. Ticket supplies will be frequently updated as new tickets become available through to the end of the phase on 15 April 2006. Tickets will become available as stadium seating plans are finalised, and from tickets offered for resale after being returned for non-payment or other reasons. For this reason, more tickets may be available later in the phase than at the beginning.

Football / Re: Anybody Hear From FIFA Yet Regarding Their Lottery Entry?
« on: February 05, 2006, 06:02:45 PM »
i got two tickect for the T&T games but not deh Englang game ah think ah smell ah rat too.. but weh storming anyways..who know when is the next draw or you have to apply again?
You have to apply again ... the next sales phase (phase 4) starts on Feb 15 ... and it's on a first-come, first-served basis ... but you can bet it will only be for tickets for the less popular games.

Then there's the FIFA online ticket exchange / buy and sell portal.  You might have heard about this, as they announced back in October that it would be launched on Feb 1.  Well, it hasn't been!  And there's not been another word about it on the English version of the FIFA website either!  However, hidden away on the German language FIFA site on Jan 19, a press release appeared that confirmed that this ticket portal would indeed be run ... albeit starting now on March 20th.

So if you don't want to pay through the nose to touts, it could be useful to read up on what FIFA are planning.  I've done a translation of that press release and put it online here.  Hope it helps!

You might find this page useful:

Hotel links for all T&T venues and dates

It has direct links to hotel listings for all of the Soca Warriors' games' venues and dates.  I've also added a list of nearby towns for each game that you can get to by train in under and hour, where there are hotels within walking distance of the station at the far end.

Hope you find this helpful!

PS - If you prefer to look at renting a place, Germany's biggest online real estate agents have a lot of properties on offer for short-term rent.  See:

2006 World Cup - Germany / Last call for World Cup draw newsletter
« on: December 08, 2005, 07:10:55 AM »
As you may know, I'm sending out a newsletter from my World Cup website tomorrow immediately after the draw with info on the first three venues and quick links to help you make travel and accommodation arrangements.

As I have to manually allocate each new subscriber on the mailing list to the appropriate sub-group (there are fans from 13 countries already signed up) to make sure you get the correct newsletter (i.e. the T&T one!), I'll be closing the mailing list early tomorrow afternoon (GMT). So if you haven't signed up yet and would like to receive this newsletter, please add your name to the list ASAP via this page:

http://www.theworldcupingermany.com/artman/publish/cat_index_74.shtml

And could you do me a favour? I've set myself a target of getting 1,000 people on the list by tomorrow afternoon. I'm up to just over 600 and now I need a final spurt ... so, if you've got any mates that don't visit this forum but might be interested in the newsletter, please let them know about it.

Hi there,

Apologies if you've seen this already from my earlier posts, however I think you may find the following helpful.

I'm a Brit and a Bristol City fan (I know, we all have our crosses to bear!) and also a bit of a German linguist, so I've combined my interests in football and things German to produce a fans' website about next year's World Cup.  It's called:

The World Cup in Germany .com

The main reason for this message, however, is to let you know that if you're thinking of going out to Germany next summer (and the Germans are saying come and enjoy the fun, even if you've haven't got tickets - they'll be lots of fan parks and beer tents in all the host cities!), then I'll be sending out a special e-mail newsletter next Friday as soon as possible after the draw is made with travel and accommodation details for each team's first three venues.  Each person on the mailing list will get the newsletter relevant to the country they support.

So if you'd like to be able to start booking hotels and flights and so on before the mad rush sends prices soaring, this might just help help you to do that.  You can get your name on the mailing list via the link below:

World Cup Draw Newsletter

Thanks for reading this and if you take a look at the site and have any ideas of things to add to it, please let me know.

Cheers!

Hi guys, from the UK!

Yes, you'll be all over the place - not just in one city ... it's a stupid of way of doing it, but that's FIFA for you!

I'm a footy fan in Bristol (Bristol City's my team) and have also been over to Germany quite a lot.  I've checked out all 12 venues, with details of cheap places to stay, how to find the grounds and all the rest.

Have a look at my website The World Cup in Germany .com and see what you think ... I hope you'll find it helpful

2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: WHERE DO WE FIND GERMANY GAME TICKETS ?
« on: November 17, 2005, 07:14:54 AM »
Hi there - congratulations on getting to the World Cup finals from here in England!

Tickets are going to be hard to come by for all of us - each national football association will only get 8% of what FIFA call the 'sellable' tickets for each game they are in ... that works out at less than 3,000 tickets for some of the games (see here: World Cup ground capacities).

I reckon your best bet is to watch closely what the T&T football federation do with their allocation ... I guess they'll be announcing shortly how they will be selling these.

Good luck!!
