The likely scenario here is that the USA will win its game, Panama will tie or beat Canada. USA finsishes second, Panama finishes top, Canada is eliminated.

Second place finisher from the USA group will face the top team from Jamaica's group...as of this moment, Jmaica needs only a tie vs Honduras to finish top. That puts Jamaica on a colision course with the Yanks. I believe they are the team Jamaica would have wanted o avoid than any one lese in the quarter finals.

In other words, there is no incentive for Jamaica and Honduras to go all out to win the group.

On the flip side, this USA team is obvioulsy not as strong as teams of te past..Panama exposed their weknesses for all to see. Now would be a good time to take them on and knock them out of the tournament early.

Who the USA missing to not be as strong? This is basically the best team the USA can field at any competition.

Howard
Bocanegra
Goodson
Cherundolo
Ream
Dempsey
Jones
Bradley
Donovan
Altidore
Agudelo
Bradley

Maybe Onyewu, Fielhaber (still a squad player).

Just like the Women's team the US Men's seems to be struggling to find quality players that can replace aging players. As it stands who can replace Dempsey and Donovan?

He did not say they did not have their best team out there....he is comparing this squad to squads of years gone by.....

The commentators says his name is Delano Williams, I don't think he's Jamaican but from one of the other islands but is going to school in Jamaica and benefitting from their excellent school coaching system!

Yeah, he's definitely one to watch, great techinical run for such a youngster!

Williams is good and he is from Turks and Caicos.  He did not have a great start in the 100 but come on strong at the end and finished third - race was won by Jazeel Murphy.

Shit Jamaica won  :'(
:beermug:  cheers mate...best post in this thread - and taken with the full compliments intended  ;).  Hoping T&T right the ship and soon.  None of this jingonistic thing for me as a good T&T and Jamaica is good for the entire caribbean. Nothing more annoying than some soccer mom dude telling me how great the US is compared to the minnons in the islands.   This whole thing is cyclical with T&T on their down cycle and we are ascending...the reverse has happened way too often.

Can believe man getting $300US for a game. In the summer in NY I make more than that by playing two games in a day. Smh

I guess you did not get the per diem part.... google NBA per diem and see how much these multi millionaires get.

The $1,200 is per player for the entire time they are in Martinique; in other words less than $200.00 per day for meals, drinks, strip clubs etc.   Its a bit excessive in my book since most days (atleast under Simoes) the team cheff prepares their meals - maybe they are including hotel cost.  This explains somewhat the shopping trips these guys go one when they are on the road.

« on: November 28, 2010, 06:39:34 PM »
Full-time: Martinique 0-1 Cuba

Cuba qualify for 2011 Gold Cup.

Grenada qualify if they do not lose to Cuba or if Martinique don't win.

Martinique must now beat T&T and hope Grenada lose to Cuba in order to qualify.

I'm confused.  I thought T&T was in this group - no?  Is T&T automatically into the GC?

oh :o I just flipped a page back...was not keeping up with the games.

« on: November 16, 2010, 09:04:57 PM »
You guys are so defensive  :P I was actually asking a serious question and there is a reason why I put fat in "".  Of course you would be hard pressed to call a footballer fat (well - William Perry and most offensive linemen, but they play the other type of football), but he did seem a bit sluggish and bigger (perhaps a better word) than I recall, and his his off the ball movemnent was very sluggish - thus the match fit question.  I like him as a player and therefore the only reason why I noticed.

Is Birchall match fit?  Watched a few mins of the game last night and was a bit surprised how "fat" he seemed.

Its  a bit funny, as I went through the bigsoccer post about the new qualifying format and by no stretch of the imagination you could conclude that the US fans even consider T&T any kind of rival.  I mean lets be realistic.  From what I gather, they believe the toughest draw for them is final group of US, Honduras, Jamaica and Costa Rica - this is assuming that the final groupings will be fixed so that US and Mexico will not be drawn in the same group.  As for the easiest away game in their view its either Canada or T&T - they believe its more than likely that they can get 3 points at these venues.     The few that made it were much louder than the US supporters and provided the atmosphere the game needed - must give them credit for that.

You talking level shit because I was at that game in Richmond in 1997... I could tell you for fact that we had that stadium jumping... we even had a riddim section playing in the parking lot after the game and all the Americans was jumping with we.  This is why I cyah take allyuh Jamaicans too seriously... allyuh will say anything to try and 'win' a point.

You seem to miss this comment...then again, I may have been comparing this to the JA turnout in DC...like I said...circle jerk.

JA record not any better. Also I fine for the boring ass football JA does be playing alyuh men have rel talks.

Yea straight have jamaican fan and all the other spranggas watch their side struggle to beat a rebuilding confused tnt team.. alyuh have rel balls yes.. oh yea alyuh beat costa rica recently booo hooo... like crc is a team to beat these days..

In fact JA's record can be viewed as worse since we have never beaten them...not trying to put down T&T - not my style - just arguing whats really a rivalry.  Our record agains the US is 9-0-8 just so you know.

The weather in JA is really bad...I mean yesterday was a wash out, and today isnt much better..that could be the reason for the low turnout.

Pardnuh.....The USA will always fill up the stands in Trinidad. So too Mexico. I guess it have something to do with the competition. These days, yuh right, people eh coming out to see the sport, but this is a relatively new phenomenon .

I am curious, what was the attendance for these two teams in T&T the last two cycle...an honest question, not trying to make a point... just want to see if you theory holds.

Me eh know...stadium was full.

According to this link, they weren't so pack - only 6,700 for both games - total.  I recall the complaining on this site about the lack of support.

The idiot metro/f16/corey/jamaicantomfool is not representative of anything Jamaican...the guy is a mental patient who does not take his meds consistently.  One of the reasons he has so many different names is that he has been banned so many times.  You guys should not really be quoting him....

As for this JA/Trini rivalry, I don't get it.  My Trini brederin and I will be searching the net together tonight to find a live stream of the game and just hoping for a good match.  I think we both understand that a good T&T and or JA is good for the the region.  US, Canada, Mexico and the Central American Teams - deservedly or not do no rate us, so anytime either of the Boyz or the Warriors can come out and do the region proud we all win.    Of course we have a bet on the game, if the Boyz win, he will eat a different JA dish all next week - if T&T wins...well don't really have to worry about that - seems like he wins no matter what  ;D  Just my thoughts.
