2006 World Cup - Germany / Re: Stern John: T&T ready to shock England
« on: June 14, 2006, 01:32:14 PM »
FYI....PProfile on john
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/player/158222_JOHN_Stern.html
Who would you imagine to be Trinidad and Tobago’s top marksman? Dwight Yorke, right? Wrong. That honour rests with Stern John, who, with 12 goals to his name in their 2006 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying campaign, appears to be T&T’s best hope of upsetting opposition defences in Germany.
Yorke’s medal-laden club career may have seen him dominate the headlines in his homeland, but it is John who is his country’s all-time top scorer with 64 goals from 91 international appearances up to April this year. The Coventry City striker was also the second highest scorer in the entire CONCACAF region in Germany 2006 qualifying, with his final tally just two short of the 14 claimed by Mexico’s Jared Borgetti.

Like T&T goalkeeper Shaka Hislop, John took his first tentative steps in the game in college soccer in the United States, before earning a move to Major League Soccer outfit Columbus Crew. There, he became one of the most prolific strikers in the fledgling league’s short history, netting 26 times in his first season in 1998 to finish top of the scoring charts.

This sudden and remarkable success captured the attention of England’s Nottingham Forest, whom he joined in 1999. John spent two and a half seasons at the City Ground before making a mid-season move to Birmingham City and scoring seven goals to help his new employers win promotion to the Premiership.

After five goals in 20 starts in the 2002/03 season, John gradually fell out of the first-team picture at Birmingham and dropped back down a division to join Coventry City in 2004. In his first season there John hit 14 goals and, after a brief spell on loan at Derby County, he continued to find the net regularly for the Sky Blues in 2005/06.

Of course, it is for his country that John has scaled the greatest heights in his career. To put his international tally into perspective, it compares favourably to the totals achieved by renowned greats of the game such as Gabriel Batistuta, Ronaldo, Bobby Charlton, and even the peerless Pele. His name may not have the lustre of some of those stars but T&T coach Leo Beenhakker says of his front man: “He is a fantastic player. Sometimes you play good, sometimes you don’t, but Stern is pure class.”

John, who began his international career as he intended to continue with a debut goal against Finland in 1995, knows that he will never have a better chance to show what he is capable of than on the world stage in June. And the prospect of playing against Group B opponents England, the country where he has spent so much of his career, is one to really whet the appetite. “If they underestimate us,” he warned, “we’ll turn them over.”

I don't believe after all these years we have 5 pages devoted to this bull. People it is time to come out of the dark ages when politicians like Williams and Capildeo brainwashed an entire society putting them against each other. You should be older and wiser now and hopefully THINK FOR YOURSELF. Ask yourself why are there no Afro-trini on the Olympic swim team etc. The answer is that some races excel at a particular sport. Why are the local whites not represented  on the national team?
Trinis of all races support the warriors....that is all that matters.

Jokes / The Wedding Test
« on: March 04, 2006, 11:21:42 AM »
This one might be a lil old but is a good reminder!!!!

 THE WEDDING TEST

My girlfriend & I had been dating for over a year when we decided to get married.
My girlfriend? She was a dream! There was only one problem. That one thing was her younger sister. She was 20, wore tight miniskirts, & low cut blouses. She would regularly bend down when near me, & I got many a pleasant view of her underwear. It had to be deliberate. She never did it when she was near anyone else.
One day little sister calls & asked me to come over to check the wedding invitations. She was alone when I arrived. She whispered that soon I was to be married & she had feelings & desires for me that she could not overcome. She told me she wanted to make love to me just once before I got married & committed my life to her sister.
I was in total shock & couldn't say a word. She said, "I'm going upstairs to my bedroom. If you want me just come up & get me." I was stunned. I was frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs.
When she reached the top, she pulled down her panties & threw them down the stairs at me.  I stood there for a moment, then turned & went straight to the front door. I opened the door & walked straight toward my car.
My future father-in-law was standing outside. With tears in his eyes he hugged me & said, "We're very happy you've passed our test.
We couldn't ask for a better man for our daughter.. Welcome to the family!"
The moral of this story is: Always keep your condoms in your car.

"The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems."

Warriors,
Thank you for taking time off from your professional and personal life to represent TnT. I think that you are a very talented football team and could beat any of the already qualified teams when playing to your FULLEST POTENTIAL!!!
Think of what a spot in the WC will mean to the youth of TnT...future professionals aspiring to join your ranks.
Remember two things:
1. The best defence is a good offence
2. Law of averages....the more shots taken at goal = more goals scored..
Take care of business!!!
Good Luck.....and see ya in Germany
Reb

PS: Don't be scared to string up the goalie!!!

The warriors should play 90 mins of total football. Start every game as if they were down by 2. This is the only time they play to their full potential.

The guys are talented......sooooo what is missing???
I think the team need to add a motivational coach.
Wha yuh think???
Should any country just strive to make it to a WC final or should their goal be to compete strongly against the other finalists???

In all fairness..it was a SHOCKING performance from our team and to be brutally honest...based on that performance...we don't deserve to go a place!
I agree 100% with de above. I was pumped-up all week waiting to look at the game....what a disappointment!!!!!
It is 12 frigin 47 a.m. and I still can't sleep.
With the quality of talent that TnT possess, that match was not even close to  WC standards.
What sense does it make trying to qualify for a WC place and performing at 2nd division level???????
If you want to go to the big dance...you got to be COMPETETIVE WITH the other 31 teams.

WE HAVE THE TALENT TO RUN WITH THE BIG BOYS...all we need is a lil confidence and HEART!!!
