Football / Re: Trinidad & Tobago keeper suffers concussion.
« on: March 24, 2012, 10:17:29 AM »
well I must say that we did not keep enough possession, we played the typical T&T game ...one or two guys had courage and would keep decent possession and take on the Mexicans while most of the others were losing possession too cheaply.
It is becoming difficult to watch T&T football...no heart, I do not expect us to beat Mexico as I once would hope but at least go down with a fight...instead we were out classed.
I no longer blame players or even T&T coaches I think we must recognise that it may be a cultural problem...working together as a team seams to be an obstacle that may be too high for Trinbagonians...we seem to do better as individuals...what a shame
The Goalkeeper was parrying too many shots ...look at the first goal... I have been following T&T football now close to 35 years and nothing much has changed...we have had a couple ok teams  but we always fall apart when tested outside of the Caribbean...lately even the Caribbean teams have owned us...what a pity..... well you reap what you sow... :worried: :worried: :worried:

I am all for getting our team to play their best!!!!! I also recognise the distinguished resume of the new coach....and i respect it and welcome him.

However, what is disappointing to note is that he played with some of our own home grown talent like Chinappoo and Dilly...yet none of ours are being considered. instaed you set up the young inexperienced Latapy for failure.....truly sad.

The "same old" local bunch will be assembled to act as his assistants....here we go again.

Football / Re: Is Dutch style Trinidad's adopted style?
« on: February 03, 2011, 10:59:23 AM »
A country'e style of play is usually a product of that country's culture:
Brazil: Flare "the beautiful game", Italy:Catenacchio "loll you to sleep then hang yuh jack" like the mob, Germany: Disciplined "stick to a plan football" like their well engineered cars.

So the question remains where does T&T culture leave us? Remember culture is not just steelband, tassa, chutney, it how you walk, how you talk, what you eat, etc....and unfortunately some will argue that lately we have adopted a murderous cold-blooded culture as well. So I wonder what style does our national team now naturally play?

The Corbeaux Brand comes to mind, a mix up style that sometimes resembles the English long ball (with the complements of those guys who now play there), combined with some small-goal individual dribbling, along with some wild-tackle; put them all together and you got the Corbeaux Brand...or i almost forgot..add some feting and drinking when they should be resting ...add some Royal Caslte and KFC instead of proper diets, and you have our Senior team...Tah-Dah!

Brazilian media says Vasco da Gama has reached a deal to sign former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz.

TRANSFER SPECIAL
Keep up with all the biggest moves around the globe with our 2011 January transfer gallery.
The O Globo newspaper says Vasco is expected to make the announcement on Sunday, when the club faces rival Flamengo in the Guanabara Cup, the first stage of the Rio de Janeiro state championship.

A four-time Brazilian champion, Vasco has started the season with three straight losses and is under heavy pressure from fans.

Queiroz has not coached since being fired by Portugal last year following poor results in qualifiers for the 2012 European Championship. The former Real Madrid coach and Manchester United assistant led Portugal to the second round of the 2010 World Cup, losing to eventual champion Spain.

Queiroz? Caoching Vasco and T&T?....No man could effectively serve 2 masters...one will always suffer.

Tallman did get a deal like that as well, ask him.....but he did get if from Shift-Flickkers to wear they push-toe bright colored rubber slippers. He still have the contract upp to today.

Football / Re:Tucco "Shoot first, talk later"
« on: September 30, 2010, 05:40:33 AM »
Why does the USA feel that they are the only team in CONCACAF??

The fact that so many other countries would benefit from this new format should be the major selling point, rather than just a f**king Mexico-USA rivalry.

Well Andre boi, yuh cyar give the Yankees wrong since we keep getting abused by them on the field of play. We especially in T&T have not delivered when ever we had a chance. Lets be honest and look at the results from the last 15 years, at the senior level it seems like when it comes to World Cup qualifiers we are owned by Jamaica, Costa Rica, and USA....(if you doubt meh ask Tallman)

All we have to show is a couple draws in World Cup Qualifiers, forget friendlies bc them games is experimentation. We have only had limited success with Mexico and that has usually come when they already qualified...now what does that say? I luv meh Soca Warriors but until they start showing the heart that the Strike Squad, and the Soca Warriors that played in the 2006 World Cup showed, until then we only TALKING...and we Trinis know how to talk...LOL

I think before every World Cup Qualifier they should put the whole T&T team in a room and let them watch the scene from the Western The Good The Bad and the Ugly..where Tucco says " When you come to kill a man shoot first and talk later"

Pretty good selection of promising local based by Latas. Daiz de way to go. Despite all de distraction and demoralization by Jackula and his stooges, that Proleague has been a good thing as the pool of players is much bigger, the gap between foreign and local is not a big deal anymore, the locals are fit for call up almost anytime and we really doh need foreign based to rescue we. I totally agree to focus on development while keeping an eye on the foreign based and build on the most hungry players who are LOCAL! To play Jamaica yuh cyah be worrying about whether yuh geyying a bush sweat or gangsta tackle from dem yardies to geh injured and lose yuh prized spot in de MLS or Europe. Glad fo Jamerson and meh boy Baptiste who is back in form.

One thing, we have a somewhat of a holding midfield problem, I feel ... unless certain players are used differently.
Dreamer I agree with everything you say except the holding midfield being somewhat of a problem. I think we have holding midfielders but what we do not have is creative "play makers" or attacking midfielders. Since Latas hang up he boots that position is lacking. The best thing in the pro league is a Japanese guy on Joe Public. Gone are the days when we had many to choose from.

I could understand Bruce frustration.

It come like yuh have a big breed pitbull in yuh yard dat yuh pay plenty money for...but the tail between he legs, it always hadda go to the vet for shots, it barking at bird and spranger dealing with yuh breathless.

...and the neighbour have a mangy pothound that find a home after he feed it two bone and a pot of stale pelau, that healthy like dat, barking at wind, dealing with spranger and resting iron on any other dog that pass tru.

Yuh ent see Bruce want to move him from the front gate and tie him up to the mango tree in the back.

Football / "Small Goal" for Kenwyne Jones.....
« on: January 25, 2010, 01:04:43 PM »
As a big fan of Kenwyne Jones, it is my humble opinion that he should focus on some "smal goal" football to develop his control and touch.

The same "smal goal" that most T&T ballers from the nineties and eighties used to over-do and so became generally better on the ball but at the same time weaker finishers; the opposite seems true for KJ today.

some may argue that he is being paid to score goals and that is what he does but even with all the physical attention that he gets in the games he would be at least three or four more goals to his credit if he developed a faster turn, tighter control in close quarters, etc.

Just a thought.....

Football / Re: CIC, St Augustine, Pres Sando win zonal titles.
« on: October 14, 2009, 11:31:18 AM »
Congratulations Pres Sando!!! 23 years is long time....but it was last won in 87 if my memory serves me right. Pres won the south double in 1986 (23 years ago) along with the National Colleges League Title, broke Sando Tech's record for most wins in a season, and were 1st runners up to El Do in the Intercol Final that year, also copped coach of the year carl Osborne, leading goal scorer Collin Osborne, and TTFA Team of the year.

The following year (1987 -22 years ago) they won the south league and finished third in the National League (Big Seven.)

So it was actually 22 years ago since they last won the south zone league, still a long time.

Congrates to the team, the coach Sean Cooper, and administrators such as Aldwyn Ferguson Jr and Michael Toney (all former Pres ballers).

Football / Re: What next??
« on: September 29, 2009, 07:59:28 AM »
Whats next? Well that depends on how you want to look at the future...

Do we stay opimistic that this team experimnt is just the start of things to come for a new effort from the T&TFF or was this a one time thing?

If we are to go by past experiences which seem to return "history repeats itself", then only two members of this team may go on to football grandeur like (Yorke and Nixon did after Portugal) and sadly the rest will not be anyway as successful....at least they can always say they played in a youth World Cup.

Even in the big teams like Brazil and England etc, the percentage of players who go on to greatness after playing for their U-20 teams are very small, so for some T&T players the T&T pro league awaits, along with possible trials at obscure teams in places where even the locals want to leave.

Yet there is some hope for a special few, a lucky few, after all some say luck is when preparation meets opportunity....Doi, doi,doi....

Football / Time for macajuel to bite like mapepire.......
« on: August 31, 2009, 06:36:06 AM »
A lot has been said of the selections made on this current WC campaign and from Maturana, Corneal, and now to Latapy have not been speared the wrath of this forum and justifiably so in most instances. However, there have been many new faces revealed on the national scene justifiable or not. The thing is when we have players getting opportunities they must dig deep to produce something special for the Red, White, and Black.

Far too often the men who make the national set up seem to be unprepared for this level with just a few exceptions. When you are selected for national service you need to bring your "A-game", it is not the time to clam-up and just accept your national selection as the pinnacle of your career, these players now need to prove themselves worthy of selection, after all it should be an honor to represent your mother, father, wife, children, Steelband, Tassa, and Kaiso, not to mention all of T&T.

There have been complaints about too many laborers and not enough magicians but it seems world football has been heading that way for some time. The ideal would be magicians who are also laborers a little Makalele would go a long way for the present Soca Warriors. The thing is, we need some more men to stand up and be counted when it matters. We seem to have many big name players but not many big game players but the time has come for our big Macajuels to stop hugging-up and squeezing everbody in CONCACAF and start biting them like Mapepire .

Dias the hurtful thing both Jab and W-Con getting licks from side who not better than them.

Its just they doing shit and not capitalizing on opportunities.

When our teams settle and knock the ball they dangerous...but then like a dotish breeze does pass tru and they hoofing ball looking ameture, sliding in wild etc.

Sometimes it does look like they want to other side to score the way they playing.

Touches, unfortunately dat doltish breeze that you elude to seems to pass when we national teams play as well...I wonder if dat is a cultural phenomenon dat local coaches need to put more focus on and address more?

We seem to lack concentration, endurance, and focus to play with consistency.....hhmmmmm does not bode well for T&T football.

Football / Re: Spann fears Saunders' Wrexham axe.
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:58:34 AM »
Why Spann don't let he football do the talking? For a man who played in a World Cup he should be playing for a better club at a higher level.

How come there has not been any news of interest from other clubs? Maybe he has been talking more than earning his living?

As a fan of his father, I hope he makes a move soon because that club is good for a start but not for a career.

Good luck Silvio, but as Trucco said in the Good, the Bad and the Ugly..."Shoot first talk later"

Football / A few mountains have to be climbed .....
« on: June 10, 2009, 06:40:17 AM »
Any journey as we all know, must have its ups and downs and the same goes for qualifying for a FIFA World Cup.  It must be noted that few teams have smooth sailing all the way and those that appear to have, actually put in a lot of work and have done a few special things along the road.

Even Argentina and Brazil struggled in early qualifying this time around. Yet we must consider the fact that players on all the teams that eventually make it to the Finals had to pull off some big performances at times when all the odds seem to be against them.....THEY ALL HAD A FEW MOUNTAINS TO CLIMB...

Last time around the Soca Warriors had to beat a Quatemala team that had already hit them 5, and had to come from behind to win, they also had to beat Mexico, not to mention travel to Bahrain and win there. However, on all those occasions summounting the mountain that was before them required a little extra from the players, they had to dig deep for something special.....

This campaign is no different, the players will have to start producing "special performances" if we are to climb the mountains before us. The FIFA World Cup requires herculean efforts especially from teams that lack deep player pools such as T&T. It boils down to eleven against eleven, and each player must remember that putting on the Red, White, and Black is an honor that they must defend with everything they got. We must truly be WARRIORS and that is giving it everything then a little more. When you play for your country you are representing everything sacred about your birth place, Steelpan, calypso, tassa, Maracas Bay, Corn soup, doubles, the honor of yuh mudda and yuh fadda, and all yuh best childhood friends yuh grow up wid.

We were able to make it to Germany, proving that impossible was nothing! So yet again we have an opportunity to shock the world. Our players need to look at the mountains before us as opportunities for David to slay Goliath, as the underdog you have little pressure on you which can work in your favor.

So this post is meant to encourage our players to dig deep and find that special performance, to dig deep and climb that mountain that they face.

Doi! Doi! Doi! Latapy in ah d area...so vibes it up!

Football / Re: Looking for a ride

Fazeer, yuh is ah asshole. I have never been so compelled to speak out against a piece of journalism. To speak about the biases that exist when you are biased yourself is mind-boggling. If Maturana had the TNT outfit playing as they did in Tobago he would have been applauded as well. Russell remains the Magician why because with an ancient Team and a prehistoric back line we were able to give a respectable performance against the Team that is The Top Dog in The Entire Concacaf right now bar none. With Stick and Bones we went out there and though glaring mistakes on the field still left room for improvement I suspect if the score was 4-0 in favor of the Ticos that there would not be this ridiculous upheaval. The TnT back line is about 110 years old. Even in their old age their Experience shone through and they played Gladiator-like for at least 68-72 minutes. Inexperience on the part of our new and young Manager was made up for by the Heart and Soul with which the Team played which despite Beenhakker's Legacy is unmatached. Trinidad on Paper cant beat the Ticos. Its that simple MR Fazeer but it seems no one told the warriors they were the underdogs as they took the game to the Ticos and Time and Time again played football that would bring out the waggonist in anyone. I for Dam sure am on the Band wagon and my biggest dissapointment with this campaign is that MR Russell Latapy wasnt at the Helm all the time which would have given him more time and space to prepare a Team. So Mr Fazeer you could say what you want about the Dentist turned footbal coach... With all his stats and accolades  he could not seem to get the Team up to the level of "Fight" that was seen in Bacelot and at this point "Fight" is what we need because we are un-favored and in an Arena with Bigger guns. I say continue to bully your way Russell... For you dem boys will run until their legs fall off... of this I am certain. Good job not openly criticizing the players as well after they obviously left everything they had on the field.  Anton Corneal could learn something from our new manager.

P.S. Dwight Yorke had a good performance. True he faded in and out of the game but was it not the result of doing other work? defensive work maybe. Dwight chase everything going backwards and still had the legs to go forward. Chris Birchall is one of our favorite sons but the work of keeping the fabric together was one only Dwight could perform. Please Mr Fazeer dont try to disguise your bashing as critical writing or your verve as anti-bandwaggonism because Trinbagonians dont have a problem expressin how they feel. expletives included. Your just upset that it was applause vs cussin that emerged. Didnt I see you clappin too? Shame on you.

I second dat!!!!!

I found it very interesting to see that Mexico invited 8 strikers in their 24-man squad. Since Mexico seems to be having a scoring problem (by their standards) in their recent qualifiers, it appears to be a smart move on their part to make it more competitive. Imagine man like Borgetti is now a has been.

Regardless, none of our strikers have scored or created a single goal for us in more than 270 mins of WCQ action recently, yet we persist with them?

Maybe Latas should consider making the competition for starting strikers more intense by adding more strikers to the pool. I noticed he is already heading in that direction by including the likes of Tousaint, and Mc Farlane. I would have liked to see Jagdeosingh and Roberts as well.

Although I am not one to always support sticking laglee where yuh see bird shit but we need strikers who are currently in form not strikers with a reputation.

Mexico's invitees for their next two games:

Goalkeeper: Guillermo Ochoa (America), Jesus Corona (UAG Tecos), Oscar Perez (Cruz Azul).

Defenders: Ricardo Osorio (Stuttgart), Aaron Galindo (Guadalajara Chivas), Francisco Rodriguez (PSV Eindhoven), Hector Moreno (AZ Alkmaar), Edgar Duenas (Toluca), Carlos Salcido (PSV Eindhoven), Oscar Rojas (America).

Midfielders: Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Pavel Pardo (America), Israel Castro (UNAM Pumas), Giovani Dos Santos (Tottenham), Fernando Arce (Santos), Andres Guardado (Deportivo La Coruna).

Forwards: Carlos Vela (Arsenal), Alberto Medina (Guadalajara Chivas), Cuauhtemoc Blanco (Chicago Fire), Nery Castillo (Shakhtar Donetsk), Miguel Sabah (Morelia), Guillermo Franco (Villarreal), Jose Maria Cardenas (Pachuca), Carlos Esquivel (Toluca).

Football / Jozy's got ah girlfriend
« on: April 03, 2009, 12:23:54 PM »
Hmmmmmm, well it is with real sadness I bring myself to make this post.

Like most, I was saddened by the level of play on the field but unlike many I am sympathetic to the players because to me the players who let us down should not be selected to represent us at this level and those who should be selected for the most part did their best.

Our technical staff (LATAS included) are the ones who must take the blame because they know all the US players by now and we had a previous 3-0 dress rehearsal in Chicago before, not to mention a confidence-booster in HCS more recently, to still be playing men who are more liabilities than assets to our cause.

I have to include Latas because he is now the assistant coach, so unless Maturana just totally ignoring him, he is involved with team selection and tactics....if it isn’t so then Latas better off being called Player/ignored-advisor.

The game is broken down into individual battles and from watching the game live at the stadium I have to tell you that Carlos Edwards, Clayton Ince, Keyeno Thomas, Dennis Lawrence, Chris Birchall, and to a lesser extent Clyde Leon won their battles but none of the others even placed in their duels.

None of our players up front could control the ball properly on the night and none took on their markers let alone put any fear into anyone.....but they all have big reputations right..hmmm. I wonder if we could qualify based on reputation alone?

To qualify for a World Cup you have to be talented enough, be lucky enough, work hard enough, and do enough "big things". Last time for Germany, it was the game in Panama, the one in T&T against Guatemala, and later Mexico..but they were big results with players doing big things...things that deserve the earning of a reputation and qualifying.

I have now resided in the US since 1995 and been to countless WCQ in Chicago, Virginia, all over, and one thing that strikes me about the US players compared to the T&T players is that the US players play as if they are always trying to prove themselves every time, whereas we sometimes play as if we have nothing to prove.......if you have nothing else to prove on the national side anymore then I suggest you retire from internationals and give someone else a go.

So after making huge sacrifices to go to the game last Wednesday night in Tennessee, it was difficult to witness the difference between the US effort and the T&T effort....but what was even worst, was to hear some of the US supporters chanting a song with the lyrics..."Jozy's got a girlfriend"..and why shouldn't they?...When compared to the likes of the others in the HEX we treat the US like a special date on lover’s lane....."come on Baby, I am yours, have your way with me..."

What else is there to come? It is hard to be a T&T supporter...but I will continue to support my country and our team. I just hope we select players who will play with honor and a "never give up" attitude instead of players who are not at the required level or worst, players who do not mind coming second to their adversaries... We need players who understand that it is a big deal to represent T&T, and not just show up but actually give your best for the Red, White, and Black, not the ones who Josie and company just dropped back home this morning and with a gentle kiss goodbye saying "until we meet again in Port of Spain eh DouDou Darlin....."

We better start making those big decisions soon, otherwise it eh go be Jozy alone, we might move from being Jozy's girlfriend to "CONCACAF Jamette"......
