Rajpaul, XavierSt. Ann's RangersTrinidad and TobagoHFK TřebíčCzech Republic
Thomas, SeonNorth East StarsTrinidad and TobagoHFK TřebíčCzech Republic

That's interesting - what's the story there? Are they trials, or is there a very happy-looking agent somewhere?

Five players went on trial in February and three of them earned contracts.

Great stuff - Rajpaul and Gordon both scored on their Débuts - they are probably too good for that division, no disrespect intended towards the participants. The professional contracts and training will do them a world of good though.

There is no way they have a professional contract in 4th division Czech Republic. Even the third division is not professional.

Should have been in the last two games for TT.

Cornell at 36 with one foot better than Plaza.

VB
You do realize he was starting to get loaned out in INDIA and seemingly released. The same India he used to run rampant a la Plaza attempting to now. No..not a one foot glen, not even ah one foot dwen could help we now...cause the forwards can't receive the ball in space..it's not the individuals it's the program. Aprox. How many passes on average do Top forwards with TOP teams receive, and how many goals do they score in 90 minutes of football. We are not a top team nor have top forwards..Do the math. To score our forwards require more passes than that average. How can our coaches make that happen ? Especially while teams trying to prevent that, and it's always easier to mash up than build.

and Old man Glen still better than Plaza.

Not saying we will win big or even qualify for the WC but rather see Glen up front than KJ or Plaza.

Is ah Old man Stern better than ah Glen ? anyway facts, 1. Plaza scored goals in TT before, scored some in El Salvador, currently scoring goals in India. 2. Glen scored goals in India and currently is not scoring anywhere.3. Neither of us on the selection committee, so we can blame someone else, stomp we feet and point finger. 4. Trevin Ceaser haven't got a fair shot yet, maybe don't want one again.

Plaza was terrible in El Salvador. He is still the target of jokes on twitter.

11
The biggest joke of all is to see Boatswain in the national team while he can’t even play in Central America, and exclude Jerrel Britto who has had some success in the same region (double digits goals in 2017). Please spare me any relative comparison between the Central American leagues, the difference between Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador leagues is immaterial if not for a couple of teams like Saprissa, Olimpia and Comunicaciones. The level of competition is the same across.

12
Dennis Lawrence totally full of shit, first the man drop KJ, then he not calling Boucaud and only now looking at Ranjitsingh. Please explain to me how players like DeLeon, Bostock, Hackshaw, Guerra, Powder, Telfer, Moses, Jack not getting called but Pro League men constantly in the roster. We needed a General as national coach instead we got a soldier who simply follows orders.  T&T will fall below ranked 105 in FIFA rankings by November.
what do you want the man to do call every eligible player he could find? deleon and bostock not interested or else they would have played under Steve hart's tenure, guerra outlived his usefulness and was ousted by hart since the last gold cup and was not called up in more than two years. Kareem Moses and jamal jack got a look by Steve hart and they were not better than what he already had on his squad, powder's time will come and the only one I agree on was hackshaw and I am sure Lawrence will give him a look in the very near future.

Jamal Jack played 15 mins of a match vs Panama over two years ago. Since then he proved himself in El Salvador, in Concacaf CL and in USL. Nonsense to say he got a fair chance and non sense to think he is not better than Alvin Jones

Tallman that league pays better than our local league but it cannot be stronger !!

A 2016 CONCACAF league ranking placed them three spots above the Pro League.

That ranking is directionally correct but Panama league is not higher than the other Central American leagues. Quality wise this is the ranking:

1. Costa Rica
2. Guatemala Honduras El Salvador Panama
6. Nicaragua
7. Belize

Money wise this is the ranking:
1. Guatemala
2. Costa Rica
3. Honduras
4. El Salvador
5. Panama
6. Nicaragua
7. Belize

Dragon last season with Jamal Jack while being in relegation zone and dead last had two very close matches with Portland Timbers which were both lost 2-1 well into injury time. Portland was using all its starters. Meanwhile W Connection was taking 12 goals over two matches with Pumas reserves

First of all it is harder by a long shot. It’s on the same level as Guatemala and Honduras. Alianza beat both Platense (Honduras) and Antigua GFC (Guatemala) just this past season in Concacaf also losing the match with Olimpia (in the last minute, after Olimpia had easily crushed Alajuelense of CR) while the TT Pro league teams were busy collecting 4-5 goals per match.

Second how come Willis Plaza who scored dozens in TT Pro and India, was terrible in Alianza and couldn’t score?

But ammmmm.......Sheldon Bateau playing at the highest level of our national players....he's playing in the Russian Premier League(well he's on loan elsewhere but still)

I think he is our next captain as long as he become consistent and remains in a top league.

I would get him to pair with Ryan Innis though....Ryan seems to be a traditional center half....when last we had someone like that Marvin Andrews?

He is in Kazikhstan now which is not even Costa Rica level league, hence it is probably USL, El Salvador or Honduras level at most.

I imagine, you have in mind a slew of unproven yet better replacements, just waiting to be called ?
as a matter of fact I do.

Greg ranjitsingh, yohan welch.

Shannon gomez, noah powder, ryran innis, Robert primus.

Levi garcia, neval hackshaw, atulla guerra,

Jonathan glenn, Che benny, Andre fortune.

Shannon Gomez? He did not play once in 2 years at NYC and now sits on the bench in USL
understandably so, but I am talking future mate not immediate. Shannon may not have been active but he can't be any worst than aubrey and cyrus in that right back position, and i am sure that veira saw some sort of talent in the lad to bring him all the way to new york and another plus to his credit is that he is still very young. the reason why he was inactive and now plays in the USL was because of his severe injury and is on the road to recovery these things do take time but i am sure he learned quite a lot under viera watchful eyes and could become our new right full back given the chance.

He has green card and his agent is French. Was just a favor. If he can't start in USL he has no business on the National Team. I think Aubrey at least at Saprissa showed well. The problem is that Aubrey plays at the level of his teammates. He is not a difference maker.

The best solution is Mekeil Williams on the right where he excelled for the Rapids before they decided to move him to the left this season...and Keston Julien on the left who starts in Slovakia.

I think the best CBs pair and most complementary is Bateu and Weslie John who is good in the air unlike every other T&T player. John is also good with his feet which is a rarity in Trinidad.

Another good option is Jamal Jack who is among the few to play with balls. He has been a starter in Central America and USL for a reason. He is actually a decent defensive mid too.
ive seen weslie John undear Steven hart and I wasn't impressed, maybe he grew since I last saw him but him and tristin hodges made the trip to south america last year where they underperformed. As for bateau that boy us very inconsistent and was terrible in our last few games which he made a lot of unforced errors and with the exception of mikeil in the left back position I don't see any other reason to keep any of these defenders we currently have. they would not even make it on the bench of one of these hexagonal teams but are our starters no wonder we bummed so terribly. I don't know Kenton julien but I'm willing to try anything but caryle mitchell, Daniel cyrus, Sheldon bateau, and aubrey david, it's very telling when a 38 year old defender came our of retirement and plays way better than you, IMO that speaks volumes.

You refer to that match vs Uruguay? He actually contained Cavani and was his first match playing along horrible players like Cyrus. You need to realize Concacaf is nowhere near Cavani type opponents, and any centre back will be made look weak if paired with a donkey or playing for a team that is constantly under pressure and has no ball posession. Over a season in Central America Weslie John was good which is more than the other options can do (Cyrus is a liability in Central America too). Bateau now plays in Kazikhstan which according to Aubrey is a lower level than Costa Rica primera...

Contro, you are crazy if you think that the Pro League, Super League players etc have any special talent that could make them world beaters.

Listen bro, this thing is about development. Development is a science. You need to accept the scientific approach in ensuring results. It hasn't been about "talent" for a long while. It's all about development. No one coming out of Trinidad and unto the National team experienced any major development. They just "played football".

SSFL can't develop anyone either. Not now, not never.

Our entire model needs to change but that is for the long run. In the short run we need to get TTFA commercially viable. We do that by putting butts in the stands. We do this by having players that are marketable and are of quality (John Bostock, Ryan Innis etc). Let Europe develop them and we utilise them. It really is that simple. A foreign born team can challenge for the Gold Cup etc. We need to recruit these players early.

Our next mission is to improve the u21-23 team/teams....Our assistant national mens coach should be the head coach of those teams. Let the philosophy go down the line. That coach should also be younger/youthful so that he's learning from the national mens coach etc. The other 23 team should always make up the bulk of your next round of qualification teams. Remember that players such as Gabriel Jesus playing for Brazil etc since 18 etc so u23 is already too old. People play at the world cup at 17-18 etc....But we need to place emphasis on this team because outside of the world cup, the olympics is the next big event. Our football needs that competition as well.

The world doesn't want what we have to offer. We have players in India for goodness sake. India...Let that sink in.

We still using the National Team to "showcase" players. That is not what the National Team is for. It's up to the National player to showcase himself. The national team is to have players who possess the final product. Some of our players appear to be overweight whilst on national duty. Some are out of breath by the 70th minute. This is unacceptable.

This post is spot on

Trust me pretty soon all of those players will be heading back to Tand T
Why you ask ... because the N T is not representing, all the good which came from the decent showing at the G C,which open the doors for the many who have signed is now slowly fading away, just take a close look at the many who have not suited up recently

Boatswain didnt suit in the 18 again this past sunday and I don't see that changing. He is lucky to be in Costa Rica where they have some decency with contracts so they will wait December to release him. If he was in another of the Central America countries they would have already cut him like happened to Plaza in El Salvador and Britto in Guatemala, and both actually were playing more minutes.

Another one who is hardly playing is Darren Mitchell in Guatemala.

True.  But not if players get signed to Mexican 2nd Division teams

Not even teams. Thus far, it has only been one team. That stated, we should present a fair picture of the Ascenso.

Some players themselves have said that the league is stronger than some South American first tier leagues.

In 2015 (apertura) they were 80 foreigners in the league (the figure includes 17 who had acquired Mexican citizenship. In the 2017 clausura the foreign presence was 94 players.

During 2016-17, 47 players in Liga MX were called up by various countries for national team duty (bear in mind that the Mexican national team has several foreign-based players). In the Ascenso MX all/most of the players called up for national team duty* were already national team players prior to arrival in Mexico.

EDIT: For 2016-17 in the Ascenso, that figure is ~10*.

The two players in Murcielagos this season are hardly playing btw

I have heard that also. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia may have better better players. But  I have also read where some analysts go so far as to rate the Liga MX as the best organized football league in Latin America. And I believe it

Chile and Colombia first divisions are definitely below Liga MX. I think he was saying Ascenso MX may be better than Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela and maybe Ecuador first divisions.

Liga MX is indeed the best league top to bottom in America and the richest. I would say Brazilian Serie A is on par. Argentina top half of the table is as well.

However, we need to start "building" for 2022.

I honestly believe the following:

The TTFA, local coaches, and many fans truly believe our players have superior talent

The highest standard of local T&T football is the Pro League.  There is also the Super League and various Minor Leagues.

The Pro League depends on Government subsidies to operate.

In order for the PFL to be fiscally viable, they have to be in the business of generating revenue to earn profits

The main source of revenue is player sales.  So the push is to sell as many players as possible.  If a player shows potential or promise, arrangements are made for a trial with a foreign club with a view to an ultimate sale.

Recently a number of T&T players have been sold to clubs in Central America & Mexico.  This is mostly a result of them being showcased with the National team.

The more players that play on the National team, the more "eyes" are on them and the better to showcase them.

So.....try and put as many local based players on the national team as possible.  Once on the national team, the higher the potential for an interested foreign club.  Hopefully a foreign club from one of the more reputable leagues.  A club from one of those reputable leagues will likely pay more for a player.

The way these players perform at their clubs will likely influence whether other T&T players get similar opportunities.

However, the results of the mens national team means that our FIFA ranking has been steadily dropping.

This affects which foreign leagues our players MAY be eligible to play in.....particularly the EPL

It means secondary & tertiary markets such as Costa Rica, Mexico, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Kazakhstan etc are primary markets for T&T players to be sold to

The thinking in the TTFA and those pro clubs is that this is a win win situation.   Players go abroad and get foreign experience playing in foreign leagues, and the clubs/agents get revenue in return.  It's also seen as better for the players as the standard of the Pro League struggles to meet international standard/

So in essence, the majority of the T&T National team is being developed by club teams in these locations.

I'm afraid "Building for 2022" isn't some local development program aimed at producing better players from the youth system upward.  It's more of a player auction process.

Little emphasis on proper development from U13 to senior level.  Raising the standard of the Pro League and coaching at all levels.  Increasing attendance at the Pro League.  Ensuring facilities are in proper working condition etc.

It's more of a hustle.

I hope I'm wrong.  But that's how it seems to me.

Mexico is not a market to be mixed in with those. It's a top 10 market worlwide, number one in America.

Football / The way forward: food for thoughts
« on: September 01, 2017, 08:45:24 PM »
Russia 2018 campaign is over. I am sorry. Time to start doing things the right way for the next cycle. 👊 Some food for thoughts:

1- hiring an experienced coach teaching tactical discipline and defending

2- always pick the players available who are playing lots of minutes in the higher level available leagues. But also be mindful, being a rotation player in MLS or Mexico is much better than being a star in remote non-football countries like India.

3- Avoid TT Pro league based players at all cost until they first go play in a club abroad and prove they can belong. If really needed, call up only 1-2 of the youngest TT Pro league based players from the U20 to round up the roster.

4 - The National Team should never be a mean to an end, in other words a mean to showcase TT Pro players so they can get a contract abroad. Rather the other way around, first the player goes and proves himself abroad, then he gets an
opportunity at the senior national team in official matches. A local based squad for non Fifa dates can be formed.
