Yes, no doubt about that

Florian Jungwirth, the German who plays for San Jose Earthquakes, recently said in an interview that he feels Bundesliga 2 is a weaker league than MLS. I think he has authority to say this since he played in literally every level of German football. I thought it'd be worth sharing this since Joevin made exactly that transition.

That's the big problem with Caribbean and Central American players. Unless they shine in youth tournaments and get a move to Europe soon (like Levi Garcia for Trinidad, Ricardo Ávila and Ismael Diaz for Panamá etc), they'll have to put impressive numbers in MLS or MX/Ascenso to attract interest most times. Or they need to show something really good in international competitions and friendlies (Roderick Miller from Panamá got a contract with Atletico Nacional from Colombia probably because of his showing against Brazil, and Abdiel Arroyo got contracts in Uruguay, Croatia and Colombia mostly because of good international appearances, like Copa America). Costa Rica players have been getting attention from Europe after the last World Cup too. Many of them moved to Europe after that and they get international respect and attention because of this.

Since Trinidad is not living the best moment in international competitions, the players need to be focused and make the most of their chances in their clubs and work harder than the others. Molino, for example, can't be satisfied with what he did last year, he needs much more than that in 2018.

And we can't forget CONCACAF still isn't a big stage to the world. I mean, Joevin was already a good player in Chicago Fire but the whole team was poor, no one stood out, and clubs around the world won't be scouting teams like that. Then he moved to a good Seattle team and did really well on his first year, had more than 10 assists and was noticeably the best left back in the league, but he had to play ANOTHER great season in 2017 to really get attention from Europe (and Darmstadt only got him probably because he was available for free). So in this process the players end up loosing many years of their careers.

Also leagues like MLS and MX/Ascenso will always value more their domestic talent, so the Caribbean and Central Americans will always need to work harder than the domestic players to have a starting spot. Cato was the best fullback available for San Jose at some point but a worse American player started many matches over him.

I've been watching him. He's doing well but Darmstadt bad campaign could hurt the way he's seen by other clubs. Kinda like what happened with Mekeil Williams, who's in USL right now mostly because he went unnoticed in MLS due to Colorado Rapids poor performances, even with him playing well many times.

Personally I think Jones should've gone to Eredivise instead of Bundesliga 2 (I don't know if he had offers from there though), but honestly I think he has the quality to be a Bundesliga left back in the next years. I was a big fan of him already during his time with Chicago Fire and called it "the trade of the year" when Seattle Sounders got a potential top fullback like him for almost nothing.

There was a fan pool in MLS subreddit about the best XI on the league. Molino and Joevin are part of it.

Joevin has the lowest salary on the team for a non rookie: $70k per year.

- 5/11 are DPs
- 4/11 are TAM level (almost DP). Molino is one of these.
- 1/11 is a rookie ($62k per year)
- Joevin Jones

The MLS is not an easy league to play in. Asked Gerrard about that.

You know what makes it hard? the overwhelming number of players whose only asset is to run and be strong but can't read the game or trap a ball

MLS needs to get more technical.  Too many fit laborers, not enough technicians.  It takes too long to put the ball on the mat in the MLS and defenders lack composure to play the ball out the back when pressed.  The best part of the league is the goalkeeping, if you ask me.  Loads of talent!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Agreed but every week you see Goalkeeper mistakes that seem out of one of those collections. Just think of 2015 MLS cup for instance.

MLS clubs don't take CCL seriously. Its calendar doesn't help and most times they don't play with their best players. It's hard to be competitive playing with a mix of your A/B or sometimes B/C teams, in a league that the cap is so strict that is hard to build a solid roster with all 28 quality players. Soccer is too dynamic guys, there's a lot more complex stuff than comparing results, everything can change quickly! There's culture, training, fitness, calendar, travel, roster, injuries, salary cap. All involved.

"Pirlo is 37", yeah, and he was playing UCL final when he was 36. Only one year isn't enough to a player drop his level like that. It's not fair to blame only his teammates. Pirlo messed up in a lot of matches, missed easy passes and didn't score FKs like he used to do.

Gerrard was useless in MLS, 10x worse than Pirlo. De Jong was ok. Cole is ok. Those 3 I mentioned played on the same team with Keane and some other talented players, and still couldn't be too much above average.

Don't buy those easy excuses like "MLS is so intense that good players can't play". Pirlo criticized the league because he couldn't accept the fact that he simply can't fit in, even playing with stars like Lampard and Villa (the last 2 could play well without depreciating the league).

It's necessary to watch the league more, because those stereotypes are useless. Just like saying there're huge goalkeeper mistakes weekly, because it isn't true. There are some mistakes sometimes for obvious reasons, because it constantly happens in the biggest leagues too.

A good point to observe too is that Panamá is getting stronger in CONCACAF recently, and there's a strong flux of Panamanians to MLS, and it's not just the "strong centerbacks from Panama" like Roman Torres and Harold Cummings, it's the talented ones like Quintero, Miguel Camargo and Godoy.

I could find a lot of examples of players coming from bigger leagues and failing or even succeeding in MLS. Gilberto, for example, scored 14 goals in the Brazilian 1st division in 2013 and then struggled in Toronto, scoring only 7 in 2014. Failed. David Villa was 2016 MLS MVP.

A team from Ascenso could win against an MLS club, Murcielagos could come to US and beat Houston Dynamo, for example. But my point is that in an imaginary league mixed with MLS clubs and Ascenso clubs, MLS clubs would do a lot better. The best clubs in MLS are also better than the best in Ascenso, just compare FC Dallas roster/quality with any club in Ascenso MX, it's almost unfair competition.

This debate is kinda useless, but I respect all your opinions. Have a great day people. Peace!

Jomal Williams and Shahdon Winchester are some of the T&T players that I like to watch. Anyone here watch Murcielagos? I believe both of them deserve to sign with a better club.

I enjoyed Nathan Lewis and Tyrone Charles performances against Haiti as well. Tyrone has been good the last few matches, is he one of the best players in the Pro League? It's strange that he's already 28 y/o and never played in other leagues.

Better club? Winchester is set to be a sub at Murcielagos and it's not like Liga MX clubs are chasing Jomal...

I say this based on their performances for the national team.
But just to prove my point, I checked here and Winchester is starting a lot of matches for Murcielagos. In the last 10 matches he started 7 and scored 3 goals, coming as a sub on the others he didn't start.

Jomal Williams is good, I don't understand why you're saying this. Last match T&T x Costa Rica was broadcasted here in Brazil and the commentators praised him a lot. He's promising, very young and earning a lot of minutes in Ascenso. And yeah, both could go to better leagues than Liga Ascenso, MLS for example.

I'm more optimistic than you about players of your country  :D

MLS is not better than Ascenso MX

Why a lot of guys here hate MLS so much? lol
I'm Brazilian, I live in Brazil and I don't care about USA but it's easy to recognize their league is getting better every year. God, Pirlo was playing in UCL in 2015 and in the next year he was an average player in MLS. They're not the best league in the world but they're certainly better than Ascenso. Molino plays in MLS, Bostock trialed in MLS, Aubrey, Mekeil, Cato, all in MLS and most of them are pretty average there. Come on...

Could someone show me the big picture of what's happening? It's so confusing and I'm really interested about it. On his first week of job, the new coach is basically saying T&T don't take football seriously, and the president is saying he'll be fired if he doesn't win the next 2 matches? So why they signed him? :o

Is this the right topic to talk about the players eligible for T&T? I couldn't find one about Sheanon Williams, just to share that he was traded by Houston Dynamo and will play for Vancouver Whitecaps in 2017.

Btw, Williams is pretty average imo, but he's certainly an upgrade over Cyrus as right back.

Hart mentioned that 5 CR players played on last week in Champions League.
I could remember only 4: Campbell and Bryan Ruiz for Sporting, Gamboa for Celtic and Navas for Real Madrid.
Who am I missing?

I truly believe T&T can beat Honduras, but will probably loose by 2 or 3 goals against CR, sadly.

Anyway, I hope they win both, but without Jones and Molino it's gonna be harder.
Trevin Caesar scored 10 goals in USL this season, but it was in USL.
Cordell Cato is pretty average in MLS and Kevan George had a great season in NASL, but again, it was in NASL, and he used to be a backup/average player in MLS sometime ago.
Bostock is the only bright spot right now (offensively speaking).

I've been impressed with J. Jones since his first match for the Sounders. He was the best LB in MLS this season, in my opinion.
Joevin could be an amazing wingback in a 3 defenders formation, and would be an even better LB in a 4-4-2 or a similar formation with a left winger that tracks back and defend too.

I can't wait for the Hexagonal. And once again I'm hoping to see Bostock on the pitch for T&T.
Cheers fellow Trinidadians. ;D

Approaching match days, we pin the threads. Go to the Football page and look at the top. Or, just go to Recent Posts (bottom of the forum's main page) and you'll find it.

Sorry. I will do it

Who do you guys think is gonna start on the next matches?

I think Hart will prefer to start a 4-2-3-1 against Guatemala, and maybe a defensive 5-4-1 against US?

I don't watch the Trinidadian league and some of the players, but based on what I know from each one, that's what I'm expecting:

4-2-3-1
Phillip? I don't know the GKs
Williams-Marshall-Bateau-David
------Hyland-Boucaud
----Cato-Molino-Joevin
--------Kenwyne

I was expecting Bostock to play so Molino would be the RM and Bostock the CAM.
And I'm not sure about Cato but Levi Garcia plays only on the left side, the same as Joevin Jones, so still unsure if he will get the start.

5-4-1
Phillip? I don't know the GKs
Williams-Marshall-Bateau-AbuBakr-David
-------------Hyland-Boucaud
Molino-------------------------------Joevin
----------------Kenwyne

--------
I think we'll play a 4231 against Guatemala. Suspect Levi will start on the left wing with Joevin on the right like against SVG.

That result would determine how we play the US. That said I don't recall Hart ever playing a back 5 moreso a flat 5. Probably because it doesn't maximize our counter attacking speed. If he's going to play 5 I think you'd have at least 1 wing back. Joevin could fit this role. I could see this being an option and slot Levi ahead of him. That might be a nice wrinkle that they may not expect.

Thanks for the insight

Still learning about T&T national team

With web streaming this was the best. I got to see other sports for the first week, instead of only gymnastics and swimming. Not that I don't like those sports. I enjoyed it. I saw lots of football. Not only the Brazil games. Saw field hockey, rowing, basketball, etc. But the Olympics was very good. I thought that Brazil should have invested more in Track and field. But other than that it was great.

Sadly we don't invest much in other sports besides soccer. We live in a big country with more than 200mi of people so we should have a lot of talent in all sports.
