Football / Saints International Masters Tournament - Tobago Sept 2010
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:09:54 AM »
Good Morning All ...
Just wanted to spread the word out there ... the organizer is Barry Roach.  Below is his recent email to a couple of the CIC guys ...  Mods my apologies ... not sure if i am breaking any of the forums rules ...

In celebration of our 15th anniversary...

We are hosting an International Masters Football Tournament in Tobago from September 16th-20th 2010.
This is a strictly 40 and over tournament, a player must be 40 on or before December 31st 2010.
It is recommended that teams comprise no more than 25 players.
We hope to attract 16 teams, 8  or more teams must be from outside of Trinidad and Tobago, 4 from Tobago and 4 from Trinidad.
The actual football tournament will comprise 3 playing days, September 16th, 17th and 19th.
There will be 4 groups of 4 to progress to a knockout phase.
There will be an official rest day on the Saturday, what we call the tourist day.
We plan to arrange trips to the Nylon Pool and Buccoo Reef and a party on the Saturday night.

We propose to offer various packages to the foreign teams in particular. These packages will include:-

TRANSPORT
Transport from Trinidad to Tobago (Ferry or Plane)
Return Ground Transport from Airport to Hotel/Guest House.
Ground Transport from Hotel/Guest House to football venue.
Very competitive rates for personal car rentals can also be arranged.

ACCOMMODATION
We have secured the use of a 165 person guest apartment complex right on and overlooking the famous Store Bay Beach Facility.
Our aim is to keep as many teams together to create and maintain a  continuous lime on and off the field.
We can also arrange medium to high-end accommodation for those who can afford it.

FOOD
All meals (breakfast, lunch and buffet style dinners) will be provided for on a timely basis from the time you land\dock to the time you depart.

OTHER
Also note that the FIFA Women's Under 17 World Cup will be hosted by Trinidad and Tobago during September 5th-25th. As such, travel arrangements have to be made very early so don't stick get through it out to your teams and get them interested. I am depending on you guys to help us attract some foreign sided. It doesn't have to be Caribbean teams, it could be anyone and encourage them to bring their families.

COST
Exclusive of airfare to Trinidad, we figure around $400-$500 USD per person is more than enough and it could be cheaper.

NETWORK
If you are in contact with any other CIC men living wherever in the world spread the word.

Thanks
PS. I will furnish you with further details soon.

Regarding the comment ... that jw pump $11 million in the team ... i get the impression that he's saying that it is "his personal" money ... i was trying to find out what fifa gives each team/country for qualifying for the u-20 wc and couldn't get much info except this old article ... but i suppose fifa does give something but how much ... ????

How FIFA shares out its revenues(FIFA.com) Wednesday 22 May 2002
 Print Email my friend Share

Today, with a turnover of more than two billion Swiss francs (CHF) every four years, FIFA enjoys a financial status that the governing body's founders could hardly have dreamed of. FIFA Magazine explains where the income comes from and how it is reinvested in football.

Still considered a non-profitmaking organisation in the eyes of Swiss law, despite revenues amounting to billions of Swiss francs, FIFA faces a conflict of interests now more than ever, torn between idealistic values and commercial interests. On the one hand, FIFA has to ensure that the rights for the FIFA World Cup™ are marketed as lucratively as possible in order to be to able to continue funding the grassroots development of world football and competitions at various levels. On the other hand, FIFA must also make sure that football does not suddenly become the exclusive preserve of the wealthy, who can afford luxuries like pay TV. For this reason, the 2002 and 2006 television rights contracts contain a number of clauses that guarantee that certain World Cup finals matches will be broadcast on free TV. These include the opening match, both semi-finals, the play-off for third place and the final, as well as all matches involving the respective home nation.

FIFA's dependence on World Cup revenue from television and advertising, which constitutes around 90% of its budget, means that one fiscal year for FIFA in reality stretches across four calendar years. Considering how difficult it is for "conventional" enterprises to estimate their business for only twelve months, it is obvious how challenging it must be to draw up a budget for a four-year period. To add to the complications, financial legislation restricts FIFA in a number of ways. Profits cannot simply be added to capital in unlimited amounts, but must be shared out. In other words, FIFA does not stockpile billions of francs, but immediately passes the money on to others. Approximately one third is allocated to development aid.

In previous four-year cycles, FIFA's turn-over from the World Cup has ranged from between CHF 115 million (1979-1982) and CHF 332 million (1995-1998). In 1999, FIFA estimated that the minimum guaranteed revenue from contracts with its partners (television rights, marketing rights, etc.) would push the revenue for the current cycle to over CHF 1.8 billion. Meanwhile, planned outgoings of more than CHF 500 million to cover commitments to development projects (financial support for national associations, Goal), CHF 800 million for the FIFA World Cup™ in Korea and Japan, and CHF 280 million for the organisation of FIFA's dozen or so other competitions and the day-to-day running of the general secretariat result in a bottom-line profit of around CHF 240 million.

Securitisation
The current cycle that started in 1999 could in many ways be viewed as a "quantum leap", with forecasts suggesting that the four-year turnover would show an almost seven-fold increase on the period running up to France 98 (1995-1998). Revenue and, more importantly, expenditure have grown considerably as a result of unforeseen events and extraordinary influences. Estimates now set the overall budget at approximately CHF 2.3 billion, primarily because the costs for splitting the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ between two nations will be considerably greater than first imagined. The financial situation has been dealt further blows by the bankruptcy of FIFA's long-time partner ISL and the resultant loss of marketing revenue accounted for in the 1999-2002 budget and the increasingly fragile state of the sports rights market since the events of September 11. Another cost-increasing factor was the decision of FIFA's original insurers to terminate the insurance contracts for Asia's first-ever World Cup - a move that has since been challenged by FIFA - and the subsequent rise in premiums for the required cancellation insurance. Despite the ISL bankruptcy, television money, which today makes up around 70% of all revenues, is on target to match forecasts and reach the budgeted guaranteed amount of CHF 1.4 billion (including the USA).

The primary focus of the FIFA administration continues to be to guarantee the requisite liquidity. A considerable proportion of FIFA's expenditures began to be incurred right from the very start of the current four-year period, including the financial assistance for national associations and confederations announced at the 1996 Congress and expenses relating to the Goal programme (approximately CHF 125 million per year), the costs involved in organising FIFA's other competitions (approximately CHF 25 million per year), and CHF 27 million for organising the World Cup qualifying competitions, with FIFA bearing costs such as the travel expenses for the referees, match commissioners and other officials at the 777 matches.

Whereas bank credits were used in previous cycles to bridge the lean years, FIFA has recently been exploring new avenues by refinancing several hundred million Swiss francs. The door to the public capital markets, used by commercial enterprises, is firmly closed to FIFA, and the "securitisation" deal, which has created liquidity of CHF 690 million, must be considered in this light. As part of a transaction arranged through investment bank Credit Suisse First Boston, companies invested the aforementioned amount, which is secured by the marketing rights for the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. This bond, which equates to only 15% of the total revenues from 2002 and 2006 and only involves claims on marketing rights, was awarded the highest rating by the relevant agencies. Any revenue from marketing contracts exceeding the amount of the bond goes directly to FIFA. In 2001 FIFA used the funds generated by the securitisation to pay off an existing bridging loan. The funds also helped FIFA to set up special reserves and invest equity. At the end of 2001 FIFA had a cash flow of CHF 1 billion.

Aid for everyone
In compliance with its statutory obligation to promote football around the globe, FIFA does not hand out money merely to an elite group of successful teams, but offers financial aid to all its affiliated national associations. The national associations whose teams have qualified for Korea/Japan will certainly have no grounds for complaint as each of them has already received CHF 1 million to fund preparations for the tournament in the Far East, and for each game they play in the competition they will receive an additional payment of at least CHF 1.5 million - a 44% increase on what was allocated at France 98 (see graph inset). FIFA will pay out a total of 200 million francs to the teams participating. The 2002 FIFA World Cup™ winners alone will receive a record amount of more than CHF 12 million from FIFA. In addition to this, the World Cup budget will also be accountable for the higher costs for the travel, accommodation and security arrangements for the teams.

The Organising Committees in Korea and Japan also receive financial help. Whereas in the past local organisers of World Cups purchased the rights for ticket sales from FIFA for a guaranteed sum, since France 98 all ticket receipts have gone to the hosts. In the special case of this year's co-hosting, Korea and Japan can also count on a FIFA subsidy of CHF 330 million.

The ttff supposed to represent football in tnt ... who plays football in tnt (players & clubs) ... if there is to be any change the clubs need to make it through the democratic process ... it supposed to be like government (it's the people of the country that puts in or takes out the government) ... but what happens in most football places, is a boys club of sorts ... if someone tries to challenge for the post of treasurer for example, the others see to it that the challenger is not successful ... just my 2 cents ... apologies for any assumptions ... i just know firsthand about a similar situation in another country ... run without government say or intervention.

"From a long ball, Glen trapped, shook off a player, pounds off another, was taken to the side, he beat a man cut into the penalty area and from an acute angle slap a perfect curling bullet into the far post."

No disrespect ... but if that is what you see ... then watching live and watching tv is really two different things yes.  LOL!  Thanks for the creativity!  I really enjoy reading your reports ... keep up the good work!

Good Post ... just an observation though ...

Spain has always been one of the best teams in Senior WC never to ... but their time has come about NOW quite frankly ... and it is not so much that they have players all over the place ... if you look at their u-20 youth results for the past 6 years or so ... in 03 they win, 05 lost to eventual winners argentina, 07 lost to czec eventual runners up.  Most of those guys playing "together" at high level together for many years.  And the spain of now not so much dependant on one man scoring as in the past (raul) IMO.  Besides they seem to have a great youth system and ability to keep them fellas together all thru they system.  Until tnt take football seriously and men see that they can make a decent living from it our best ballers see getting a free education (us schol) the end game for them.  Shaka is one of the few lucky ones to get both, at the end of the day if he football career did fall through he had a very good degree to fall back on.  There may be others but he came to mind.

Football / Re: T&T vs Mexico performance.
« on: June 11, 2009, 02:17:42 PM »
Sorry Fordy for taking so long ... but since you asked ...

Given the situation ... i would have taken/tried the safe strategy and gone for a draw 0-0, i maybe would have tried to stay ultra defensive (everybody behind the ball) ... i know not good for the fans or players but ... it's the result i looking at.  Although (and to be honest i saw a little of the game on the net), Latas did look like he set the team up that way by holding just inside the 1/2 (from what little i saw) ... (i'd probably would have held on the line of the last 1/3, i did notice that guys was still trying to get forward, but when they did they end up exposing the spaces behind them.  I woulda gone with trying to frustrate them and hoof it forward every chance i get ... with that said ... probably wouldn't ah worked ... pressure does buss pipe they say ...

Also, i must say that i may have also been anxious seeing that mexico going thru their fair share of ups and downs at the moment and look like they could get beat easier than mexican teams of old.

My concern is that at this stage results/points matter ... i remember playing for saints and we playing good ball and still getting licks ... at the end of the day all everyone really remember and count is the score.  we really need a man who you can count on to score ... not hoping one of the guys come through.

Maybe that's the strategy (draw) Latas went for but it aint work.  But to me them fellas need to think more defensive ... i personally find defending easier than attacking ... if i remember correctly and if you are the right "ford" ... you used to defend right?  So you know what ah trying to say!

Let the cussing start ...

it really amazing that no-one yet from what i've read (apologies if i missed it in this thread) saying anything negative about Latas as coach!

Latas will make a good coach someday ... but in this current position with this team ... them fellas go make any coach head hurt.  As someone said it's not easy coaching at this level and it aint easy playing at this level ... you think them fellas intentionally gone out there to do crap?  Anybody whoever play the game in any kind of competition knows how hard it is ... sometimes i think some of the comments are very harsh ... this may be one of them ... ultimately is the coaches responsibility to come up with the game plan and the players to do it ... at the end of the game it's his responsibility to bear ... win or loss!

Sometimes, as a coach on the sidelines you can't see everything as some of us who have a better view on screen and benefits of replays etc.

At the end of the day, i wish the team well ... but if we can't learn to stop trying to play prettyboy football and try make at least 3 to 4 passes without giving away the ball ... we ent have no business going WC.

Imagine we playing a crucial WC qualifier and no-one get any yellow card?  To me the only thing Latas bring in the last two days is a sort of pride back in them fellas ...

Saying that ... i will also offer a suggestion ... as you should never criticize without at least offering a solution ... we need an experienced coach to lead our guys ... also should be at least 2-3 years at the helm ... could be someone like Bruce Arena with Latas as assistant grooming to take over ... he consistenly had USA playing and winning in our region and most of those guys wasn't half as "skillful" as we fellas ... but at this level it ent about who push ball through man leg, round them, over they head as we like to see ... is about war on the field!  Friendship after!

Hopefully, we can recover and get to 4th place and a playoff ... Best wishes to Latas and the team!

Thas my 2cents ... Go easy on the cussin eh!

Football / Re: Where was the Defense?
« on: June 07, 2009, 10:57:52 AM »
Just want to make a simple point ... Beenie sorted out the defense issue we had ... got us to WC.  Defense always keeps you in with a chance to win games not offense.  You can score 6 but if you let in 7 you still lose.  As many have said in the forum ... we will not go anywhere unless we tightenup in the back ... we can't afford to let teams score more than 1 on us for us to have a chance.  Playing defense isn't pretty but we like to see pretty ... remember plenty people say beenie shoulda play latapy in WC ... if beenie didn't stick to his defensive strategy ... we would not have been so proud of our team ... no-one remembers the plays in a game only the score ...  Very surprised that Latas left out Birchall ... have no idea what the issue was ... but i always say is Birchall and any other 10.  Has been the most consistent player for me so far.  With that being said ... wish the team well in mexico ... tough place to play!

JC ... you have an ok concern ... the only thing i disagree with you on ... is ... Birchall ... is he and any other 10.  From what i see that's the only man in recent times who does real play heart and soul for tnt!  Just my humble opinion.

Agree with most of you ... he is ... i watched the game yesterday ... sunderland is not that good as a team.  If KJ gets the support from the midfield and if the coach has a better plan (sunderland playing like they still in the 70's ... IMO), he would be very dangerous.  I was also wondering if he made a mistake not pursuing the move in Jan.  Also peeps remember that strikers have good seasons (scoring goals) and dry spells as well.
