Football / Re: European Super League Thread
« on: April 20, 2021, 07:30:43 PM »
No bluff!
Perez was the mouthpiece, Tampa Bay Bucs and Boston Red Sox were the main drivers.

What the NFL and MLB both have is self governance. The owners select their commish.
The NFL/MLB owners get all the money, and don't have to share anything with a UEFA or FIFA.
The Euro Super Leag, thanks to the Bucs and Red Sox would have been run the same way as
the NFL and MLB.
So, why all of a sudden did it fall apart?
Man City, mid-East owners, Chelsea, Putin patnah. Man U, Arsenal and Livpool, US owners who
have no idea how deep football runs in the veins of UK fans, NO IDEA!!! Daft as the day is long.
Spurs, they came along for the ride, and the green being talked about.

This was dead, IMHO, from the time it was announced.
UEFA and FIFA would have banned all the players from all competitions. The Spanish, Italian, and
definitely the English FA, would have put the sword to each team in the 3 leagues.

Can this happen again? 100% YES!
How do you minimize the possibility of a recurrence 5, 10 years down the road?
Not sure, but measures have to be put in place.

Is a PR talking about dropping out of the league good enough? Or should each of the Prem Leag
teams face some type of punishment?
No, it is not good enough, and yes, each one needs to be penalized, punished, fined, points deducted,
you name it, it needs to happen!

I have a general mindset that in sport which is full of human activity and prone to error, there tends to be a balancing out of things that go for and against you but I must admit I am struggling with the calls we are getting. We are predominantly overmatched generally and we will need that 'rub of the green' for things to go our way.

Mexico 1-0 : Joevin wrongful offside goal otherwise score 1:1
US 2-0: Nathan Lewis wrongful offside goal otherwise score at the time would have been 1:1
Costa Rica 2-1: Botswain penalty no call, if we score that penalty the score 2:2

Even if I am willing to throw out the USA result that is 2 points taken away from us by poor officiating otherwise we would be on 5 points. I know history will never really take any of this into account but in the present is all kinda chessburn, The players hopefully will stay committed once it's mathematically possible. i think we can adjust the need from 13 to 12 points to secure 4th because of the Panama/Honduras result as we have to play both of them still. 3 wins with 2 home games is not out of reach. Keep Believing!

Good post!
TT should have at least come away with a point last night,
and with a little luck, 3 points.

Cannot fault the effort last night, it was there.

Botswain and Lewis ran and ran, Molino was also very good.

Football / Re: Kiss the WC Campaign to Russia goodbye...
« on: January 05, 2017, 07:29:40 AM »
Before DJW was installed we had a fighting chance, even under Tim Kee because he would have used his influence to get funds for the squad to prepare and it would have put us in a favourable position to advance to the big dance.

With DJW and his cronies in there, forget WC, the players are not on board with him at the helm. Our chances of qualifying are slim to none now. Because Hart will eventually be forced out or forced to make a choice that no one wants because ulterior motives are at play here...

We will lack preparation and funding, Pnm will bawl recession and blame it on the unc for the lack of funds to football, Tim kee would have been able to squeeze enough to get us prepared and ready, however our current situation is deteriorating at a rapid rate...

I can see a lot of fans and die hards who have seen our progress over the years with Hart, walking away from football because of what is about to take place in the coming 6 months. Don't be surprised that our national team is sabotaged for personal agendas regardless of the fact we have probably one of the most talented squads and realistic chances of qualifying for Russia.

Once again the federation and government will be squarely to blame once again for the lack of support and creating the issues that surrounds the team and inevitably lead to our demise.

I have always been positive about our national team but this is the only instance where I feel our football is in jeopardy and I don't think people have heeded my statements about 4-5 months ago. This is no longer about just this WC campaign but a downward spiral for the next decade that can happen under the current admin.

There will be rampant corruption within our football and it has already started and serves to derail our progress. Russia currently is no longer an option under the current admin. Unless something drastic is done our campaign is failed from the get go...

Read this post when you first wrote it, didn't think much.

Looks like you are prophetic.

My cousin, high up in the Catholic Church, rolls his eyes
everytime I broach TT football or cricket. In a very simple
way, he is expressing the same sentiments as you.

Looking through the whole TV guide and can't find the game on cable. is there a feed on YouTube or on a cable channel that I might have missed? USA viewing that is.

https://goo.gl/FKneVy
Probably the best place to find the game is on Sportsdevil,
via Kodi. If you have a log in to one of the paid sites, BeIn,
Fubo, or NBC, you are good.

Enjoy!

The Prem is where the action is, and MONEY lies.
Nice to see Garcia following the paths of Romario and Ronaldo,
playing in Holland first, then ..................
AZ should be in Europe '16-'17, only a matter of time before the
Premiership comes calling, AND the money!

Good thread.

KJ when he was in the Prem, and now with Cardiff was told the
same thing, occupy the last defender. In the game yesterday,
there were 2 Panamanians shadowing him. Size does matter,
and he gotS size, which made them put 2 guys on him!

No matter how fit you are, 108 in NYC in July is probably as
oppressive as what Qatar will deliver in 2022, if they manage
to hold on to what they got. After coming off the high of the
Mex game, both an emotional and physical exertion high, these
guys did not have what it takes to go 120, and it showed. We
were DARN lucky to get to penalties, but could not bring home
the bacon.

This was a good tune up for WC qualifying. If this group of guys
can give the same effort every 90 minutes, like the Mex game,
AND Coach Hart doesn't bolt, Russia could be in our future.
Otherwise, it will be same old, same old......................

Let's see how the Windies respond

I think you will agree, they responded in their customary inept way.
If this game goes past tea tomorrow, I will be surprised. It would
not surprise me if it doesn't go by lunch.
Lloyd and co. wanted youth, well, youth will probably be taught
a lesson inside of 3 days.
The Windies is to cricket, what Austin J Warner is to the rest of
the world, the laughing stock!

The draw for the 2018 WC takes place in Russia next month, July.
Russia will keep the 2018 WC, but 2022 will be re-visited.
The timing of the next election/extraordinary meeting to
elect a new FIFA Pres will be past the date for which Russia
2018 could be tabled for review/re-consideration.

If FIFA is being serious about being transparent and be 'ethically
inclined', they will first of all release the Garcia report to the
public, give serious thought to revamping the constitution placing
term limits on the President, on down, and stick to the one
edict Mr. Teflon passed, rotate WC's between the continent's.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Why no Gayle?
« on: May 31, 2015, 05:45:20 AM »
Gayle's non-selection is simple.
He is in the twilight of his career, and is choosing the 'money'
first option, and who can blame him?
Why no Chanders? Why is it the WICB continues its long standing
poor treatment of the elder statesmen of the Windies game? Sobers? Gibbs?
As much as Chanders has given to the Windies, and its fans, could he not
be afforded the respect of a final send off?

Baffling!

According to the TT Guardian, Warner two sons sign statements to the Feds two years ago.
But I can't believe they would sell out their father.

I do however believe they sell out everybody else.

VB

No need to point a finger at their dad.
The mere fact they were not member's of FIFA, and have ALREADY
pleaded guilty, would lead one to believe they were either the
front for their dad, and following his instructions, or happened
to have monies going to, or coming from some FIFA related party,
unbeknownst to Mr. Havelange's black son.

I know which one I believe, which one do you believe?

Football / Re: FIFA News Thread.

Interesting the 2 Warner's both pleaded guilty to 'Bobbol', and they were
not member's of FIFA, yet the Patriarch of the Warner family has not been
questioned, and continues to proclaim his innocence.

Hmmmmmmmm..........

I am guessing the 2 son's were given the opportunity to come forward, before
they were hunted, smart on their part, and the Patriarch was also afforded the
opportunity to come forward, and answer a few questions, but chose not to.

And after all of this news about FIFA, and the allegations of 'rampant corruption',
Mr. Overseer of Corruption, the Earl of Fifa, aka Sepp, will carry on with his
election this Friday.

First minute boy?  Hard luck fellas. Congrats to St. Augustine.
Anyone know when was the last time Fatima was in a national final?

Fatima played and beat St. Augustine in '05, in the National Final.
I am thinking that was the last time. When I find out for sure, will let
you know.

« on: July 25, 2013, 10:14:23 AM »
I wonder if the plug does get pulled on Qatar, would Zidane have
to payback his $15M Euro?

Let's say it doesn't get pulled, and does go ahead in Winter.
The Euro leagues would have to be shutdown for at least 2
to 3 weeks before the WC, and at a minimum 1 week after.
Down time for Europe would be at best 7 weeks, at worst
9 to 10 weeks.

Has anyone here ever followed the griping by owners, players
fans when there has been a strike in NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL?
It would be amusing to see Blatter selling his plan to ManU/
ManC/Chelsea/AC Milan/Juve/Bayern/Dort/Real/Barca ownership,
and informing them they have to shutdown for 2 months.
Or do the leagues continue minus the National team players?

Qatar was a bribe, and now the lies are coming home to roost.

Brilliant Wigan, absolutely brilliant. Played without fear and deserve the win. Fortune favors the brave.

Happy for Martinez and the squad  :applause: Now save the season with an escape

What makes Wigan's 'David over Goliath' win even more impressive is this................

It makes Roberto Martinez look genius, compared to his counterpart
yesterday, who couldn't get it done with Inter, and now Man City.

You have no heart!  Lets not forget all the great saves he made!  Score would have been 6-2 without his outstanding performance!!!  And that's being generous.

M Welch, I'll presume you are his mum.
Your son was huge last night. Were it not for him, TT would
have been down 2 in the first 20 minutes.
Kudos to you for allowing him to play for the country of your
birth, or your husband's birth. As others on this thread have
said, I too hope he stays a Trini, and represents for the U20,
and Olympic team.
The Dynamo have coached him well, and credit to them for
recognizing his talent.
As far as the critics go, you have to realize it comes with
the territory, and be bigger 'dan dat'.

Continued success to your son!
