Seventy (70) players subscribed to the online registration process. Is that number above, below, or "at about" what was projected for turnout?
What happened there is that a number of (for want of a better term) non-players and under-aged players turned up due to them wanting a chance to be out there training and playing. Due to my knowledge of the football landscape in Tobago i would say that the players selected are all known in football circles in Tobago.
In the mix too there are one or two younger players who the coaches decided had the potential and chose not to wait for the U17 program to get them involved.

Eve scouts foreign-based players for men's Under-20 squad
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday)

TRINIDAD AND Tobago Under-20 men’s football coach Angus Eve is scouting players from overseas in an effort to field a competitive team as preparations begin for the qualifying phase of 2023 FIFA Men’s Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

The T&T Football Association recently started having screening sessions for players eager to represent their country.

Eve, speaking to the media during a session at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva on Saturday, said, “Things are going smooth so far. I think the staff and the (TTFA) have done a tremendous job to organise this.”

Players based overseas will be included, Eve said.

“The plan is simply that we do the screening until the end of February. That will encompass the foreign-based players who have parentage (in T&T)…we have some boys in Germany, we have a goalkeeper in Norwich City in England, we have a couple of them in some of the MLS (Major League Soccer) teams, some of the USL (United Soccer League) teams. They will have a different level of play and fitness. They will come a bit closer to the end (of the screening).”

In January, trials will be held for footballers in Tobago.

Eve is satisfied with the response from the players.

I am happy that Tobago was not left out....Screening happening today

(Would have responded earlier but I was on quarantine)

Football / What Development looks like
« on: December 09, 2021, 08:06:17 AM »
These are the things that you don't hear about but are essential to the development of the game in Europe.

Yesterday before Man Utd. played Young Boys in the Champioms League.....Man Utd. U19 played Young Boys U19 in the Youth Champions League

When ever senior national teams like England play an international friendly......their u21 team plays the same Country the day before.

This is what a Concacaf Technical Committee is supposed to be implementing in this region

...oh wait... Jack Warner disbanded the Concacaf Technical Committee  :banginghead:

If our young players get this kind of exposure
1. they can be seen and get contracts at a younger age
1. they will develop faster and make better senior team players

We have to move away from only have a youth team a few months before a tournament.....and develop an consistent program with regular meaningful games for them to play in order to foster their development.

Once again there is no mention of Tobago.....so are 30 or 40 young men supposed to find their way to Trinidad.....during this time of a pandemic..... find somewhere to stay, pay for meals, transport etc. in order to have a look in ???
I have been saying this all the time....it cost less for one or two coaches to travel to Tobago for one day.....they don't even have to spend the night....back home no later then a 9 pm flight and can drive home and sleep in their bed.
As usual they will only look at Tobago players months after a team is in training and players have already started developing. Then you bring in Tobago players who have never trained with the team...or under the coaches and you expect then to do what exactly ???

And what is even more disrespectful is that a coach stop me on the road last night asking for my son to train with him because he was contacted by lord alone knows who....to train u20 players in Tobago. So no formal announcement....just word of mouth....hand picking of players.
This $H!+ has to stop. This makes me understand more and more why Tobago voted for the PDP. (Not me eh ;D)

Who wrote this article ???? He forgot to mention that the training with the Futsal Team took place months ago.  That bit of information changes the dynamic of the article...
The real question is why now...months after the situation took place are they now releasing him. Or are they using the Futasl thing as an excuse ????????????????????????

2021 and we are still treating with Tobago as if newly annexed territory. Incoherent on so many levels.

It happens over and over again. It is only in individual sports that Tobago athletes get their just due because its man against man. In team sports, there is no consistent effort to scout Tobago for cricketers and footballers. We are always treated like outsiders and it is shameful.

Would having a TTFA office in Tobago make a material difference?
Started to type a response but then it hit me....that might not be such a bad idea. Because clearly what has been in place before has never really worked.
In the past it has always been the responsibility of the TFA to National arrange scouting events in Tobago, with little or no assistance from the TTFA....but no other zone in Trinidad had that burden. And even if they see players they like.....what next ?? 3 or 4 or 5 players.....sometimes more have to travel to Trinidad to train as opposed to one coach coming to Tobago and conduct or assist training of 10 or 20 players that might have the potential but need some refining.
Maybe it is time to look at alternatives.....Just saying.

10
It is so funny that a post like this that made so much sense and actually offered actual names and viable options.....no one is commenting on it. But the posts cursing the coach and the players from the game against the USA have pages of comments.

Part-time players also suggests part-time coaching.
I find you saying that like you blaming the coaches for that. It is the system in their country.

Not at all. I'm just linking a consideration that people overlook. You feel 10,000 hours applies uniquely to players?
Right Right.....got you. That is a valid point. For as much as i wanted my son to get playing time, I also wanted coaching time to improve my skills, so we joined an youth club/academy which  means that between the club and school football, we both play and coach almost all year.

There's certainly a LOT of public commentary about this match in the public domain. Not even Saintfiet attracted this level of weighing-in at his kick-off. There's a heavy public investment in this match psychologically ... which is an indicator of the ceiling to which football can be raised with proper governance.

General comment, not a veiled indictment of the NC. Merely something for the halls of officialdom to note.

Success to TF.
it’s like blaming the janitor for the building’s faulty wiring. these people needs prospective.

That may be partially so but you don't pay a janitor 20k USA a month if your don't think he has the skill set to  repair what's wrong?  At least he could  run the wires so they could produce some kinda spark for that price!!!!
The point is not whether or not he can run the wires or repair the problem....it is the prospective of blaming him for the faulty wiring that is there already.

Terry should have taken up the offer to play Anguilla BEFORE facing the US, that I disagree with him on. This game would have been a good test for some of the none cap T&T players.

I am sure Stern John's team would have given us a good test for some of these young players.

After the last time we played Anguilla......it would have been a riot from the time that game was announced. And besides....the US based would not have been available to play so what would have been the worth of it ?? How we going to judge them against Anguilla ???
Is the same thing they said the last time we played them......a waste of time.

The reality is that Fenwick probably looking for 10 to 15 spots in a team of 25. Most of them would not be starters. Players have limited opportunities to address the selectors so the outcome of that game was irrelevant
We have quality and experience in

Bateau
Molino
Jovin
Levi
Aubrey David
Hyland

that would make up the core of this team surrounded by the new younger fitter hungrier players....at least in the immediate future. Remember first qualifier is 50 days away. Proper planning and scouting and player development are all things for the future, that should be taking place in the back ground while.....right now we just trying to find the best players for the games starting in March.

leave the man alone and piss off. it's not his fault that these grown ass men can dribble or make a proper a pass under pressure.

complain to the ministry of sports to invest in training schools to teach these lads how to play proper football, and invest in making the league more competitive, that is where your criticism should lay, not on miracle making coaches.

Every coach does lose, Angus Eve and Brian Williams was no better as youth coaches.

In 2012 Angus Eve U-23 team lost 7-1 to Mexico in a CONCACAF Olympic qualifying match. He had some decent options on his team like; Sheldon Bateau, Kevan George, Sean De Silva, Curtis Gonzales, Kevin Molino, Cordell Cato, Shahdon Winchester, Robert Primus, Leston Paul, Jamal Gay, Khaleem Hyland, Jayson Joseph, Trevin Caesar, Mekeil Williams, Kareem Moses and Daneil Cyrus.

Angus Eve team also got hammered by USA if I remembered clearly, 5-1 or 6-1 I think?, Nick DeLeon was on the stands for that game in Cali.

Dennis Lawrence team lost 6-0 to USA in June 2019 in an actual Gold Cup match - Dennis Lawrence: 11-2-1-8-7-23 - Wins: 18 per cent; Draws: 9 per cent; Losses: 73 per cent.

Stats

Russell Latapy: 13-5-1-7-20-22 - Wins: 39 per cent; Draws: 7 per cent; Losses: 54 per cent. In 2005 the T&T Under-20 team participated in the youth World Championship qualifiers and lost 6-1 to the United States under Latapy.

In 2000 T&T lost 7-0 to Mexico in a world cup qualifier under Ian Porterfield. Some of the players involved were; Clayton Ince, Lyndon Andrews, Dale Saunders, Craig Dennin, Dennis Lawrence, Shurlan David, Reynold Carrington, Stokley Mason, Angus Eve, Ancil Elcock, Jerren Nixon, Arnold Dwarika and Nigel Pierre.

Stats as of 2017 as T&T coaches,

Leo Beenhakker and Wim Rijsbergen. Eight winless matches with three successive defeats.

Zoran Vranes and Sebastian de Araújo. Eight winless matches with four successive defeats.

Dennis Lawrence. Nine winless matches with seven successive defeats.

Without picking sides.

In my opinion where Fenwick went wrong was, he should have started the more seasoned players like; Hashim Arcia, Duane Muckette, Jamal Jack (he did), Alvin Jones (he did), Neveal Hackshaw & Ryan Telfer (he did) also, Noah Powder, Brent Sam & Andre Fortune (he did) because of prior youth international experiences and slowly integrate the other inexperience players into the team.

Jabari Mitchell, Alvin Jones and Josiah Trimmingham was big let downs for players who have been around international football a while now.

Not sure why Daneil Cyrus and Curtis Gonzales didn't make the team, but they would have surely helped.

One thing for sure is Terry will learn quick and hopefully correct his mistakes.

They say Cyrus has a groin injury

There is no excuse about not gelling or foreign vs local.... they plaved u17 and U20 together.

Come nah man. You talking about 5-7 years ago. Individually, where have their careers gone, what level they playing at? How much experience they have at this level? When is the last time they played a competitive match?

But they have experience....that should count for something. I was refering to the point that everyone is making that most of the team  playing together for the first time.

Lets talk about playing both #12 Jamal Jack and #16 Alvin Jones out of position. They were probably the players best able to deal with the situation but were wasted because they were out of position. jamal Jack is not a wing back and might even be a but on the heavy side at the moment. Alvin Jones should have reverted to right back after Pena was replaced...or even replaced him before that.

33 year old Jamal Jack starting? Why? Alvin played a total of 134 minutes of competitive football during 2020.

Because of experience......had they not played out of position they would have had more influence on the game

Kudos to #13 Woo Ling and #14 Poon Agreon who came on in the midfield and showed some composure along side #10 Duane Muckette

I would not read much into this, because by the time they came on the US was already leading 6-0, took their foot of the gas, and began making changes.

Fair enough.

So why is it that this is the only point that you can bring up after that sham of a game. There are so many other important other things to discuss, like why Fenwick played over weight players and why some players played for way longer than they should have. Why he didnt play othe only left footed player on the team.
Obviously somebody outside of TnT thinks the boy has some talent and is willing to make him a professional in another country....with all the players that they have in their country. Give GG III a break nah....... find a Police forum and bash his father there.

Question... did you question when Alvin Corneal was on the national team ???
If you did then respect to you.

Dred, I think you did a misprint about Alvin. You probably meant his son. Alvin was an excellent and damn good player. In TT top 25 best players!!!!!
Sorry Anton Corneal

We are all missing the point and clearly supporters don't know our players. The nucleus of the team that played last night have played together at u17 and u20. They were the u17 Team that Seam Cooper took to within one game of the u17 worlc cup.

Starrters
#4 Josiah Trimingham
#5 Leland Archer
#11 Jebari Mitchel
#8 Andre Fortune

Subs
#13 Mathew Woo Ling
#15 Naveal Hackshaw (u20 only)

Didn't play
Brent Sam

There is no excuse about not gelling or foreign vs local.... they plaved u17 and U20 together.
Of the New recurits....only 2 played
#3 Pena
#18 Fortune (younger brother)

Lets talk about playing both #12 Jamal Jack and #16 Alvin Jones out of position. They were probably the players best able to deal with the situation but were wasted because they were out of position. jamal Jack is not a wing back and might even be a but on the heavy side at the moment. Alvin Jones should have reverted to right back after Pena was replaced...or even replaced him before that.
And why was the only left footed player left on the bench and leave Jamal Jack out there to look bad.

And you run #8 Mitchell and #7 Telfer unto the ground and you have Brent Sam in the bench.
Kudos to #13 Woo Ling and #14 Poon Agreon who came on in the midfield and showed some composure along side #10 Duane Muckette (Rasta)
