Football / Re: Thread for T&T vs Montserrat Game (2-July-2021)
« on: July 03, 2021, 07:14:12 PM »
Watching this game made me a bit angry more than anything because this Montserrat team is much better than Bahamas. So the obvious conclusion to be derived is that something was very much off in that camp. Montserrat of course is not the greatest challenge but they have held their own recently. El Salvador, who could potentially be in our group if we move to the next stage drew with them in WCQ as recent as March this year.

These trini talking heads love to fool themselves into thinking we have a winning team with world class players and all we need is a top notch coach to complete the magic, when nothing could be farther from the truth. i know it’s a bitter pill to swallow but let’s face the truth and be honest here, we will always be way down in the pecking order in concacaf simply because we are a neglectful bunch who suffers from delusions of grandeur.

I hate to repeat myself over and over again, but if you’re not willing to spend on developmental schools all over the nation, top level coaching courses, develop a proper league which includes funding community stadiums and spending tons of money on promoting the league and compensating players and making the game lucrative, then we wasting time and will continue to be the boo boys of concacaf.

This is what people like colin Murray fazeer Muhammad and lasana liburd should be writing about, not the coaches performance or the teams weakness, but football being properly administrated and developed in such a way that it would be a totally justified to expect Trinidad and Tobago to beat teams like PR, jamaica, haiti, El Salvador and honduras and nothing less will suffice, but until then, we need to keep quiet because we didn’t earn that right as of yet, and we have plenty work to do before we get there.

The flip side to that is that men watching their favourite EPL and La Liga team and expecting these players to produce performances resembling that and that a good coach would produce such

This is becoming embarrassing. This Honduran team has some decent players going forward but they're not that great defensively but we're making them look like world beaters now. 4 - 0.

I should get a refund of my $1.99 for this drivel I am watching. On and off the field we are a shambles. Telfer looks like one of the few players who is ready for Concacaf Football. This is madness.

Sorry but that 2nd goal is total utter crap from Foncette. I honestly do not know what to say about out goal keeping situation at this. We tbh I do not know what to say about the entire situation. This is incredibly sad to literally watch our national team sink into the abyss and there is very little we can do about it.

So Marvin-esque was the goal that I momentarily forgot that Foncette was the GK.

If I am Ranjitsingh or Frenderup or miscellaneous, I would be encouraged.

Conversely they can also feel discouraged by not getting selected while they're seeing this madness go on.

For those who did not know. The games are on www.concacafgo.com . Its $1.99 USD.
There's just something about our goal keepers that always has me on edge, especially on set plays. There's this lack of confidence in that department and I think the defenders can also sense that.

So does Martinque get the win on aggregate with 2 always goals? I don't even know the rules for this tournament.
It's a league format. Both teams on 2 points each.

I am happy with Ryan's Telfer's debut. If he can get good service through the channels, he can do damage. He has good speed and made some smart runs. Good service would be the key in getting the best out of him. My other point, I hope Greg Ranjitsingh's issues re: passport is dealt with soon because we are in need of a keeper that commands his area. We have some good shot stoppers but the goal keeping role has evolved waaay past being just that. Ross Russell Jr...SMH.

I feel like comparing us to Curaçao ain’t necessarily fair. Most of that team is man from Holland who playing top flight or medium flight Dutch football. They gon look better than us because they have a different caliber of player than us. Patrick Van Aanholt joining them just now as left back.

I respectfully beg to differ and think its a disservice to Curacao. Of the starting lineup 5 were born in Curacao and 6 born in Holland. I lived in Curacao for almost two years, many regular women used to go to Holland to have their children and come right back to Curacao after being discharged from hospital so simply having place of birth as Holland may only tell half the story. In any event, Trinidad now seems to have an agenda of freezing out foreign born players, so that's on us for not capitalising on all the resources at our disposal. Pro league local born players who have not played a competitive league match for the year starting over foreign born who have actually played for the season.

Dennis Lawrence saying we are punching above our weight. What will he say for Curacao? Their population is 160,000. When I played there in 2005, they had 1 field with grass, their national stadium. Its a very, very dry place with very little rainfall. I'm just tired of the excuses DL and DJW come up with.

To see Curacao go toe to toe with the US is a sign that CFU teams are getting better. However when you juxtapose how they are playing against the US and how we played against them. It is a grim reminder of the depth of our football crisis in this country. Curacao looks well drilled and well organised. Even if they lose to the US, they equipped themselves well and represented well. TnT were a complete embarrassment to themselves and the region. Yet the president of our federation was happy with the management of the team at this Gold Cup.

I've been a member of this forum for about 15 years now. I often read but rarely post. I cannot see how DL can continue after this. This team is a damn shambles and DL is stubborn and clearly his objective is clearly not picking the best team or winning. The Trinidad football/sports media are as useful as a chocolate pot. Completely useless.

I absolutely cannot believe this man didn't cap Gregory Ranjitsingh in this match. I've lost all respect for Dennis Lawrence. He'll come with some bullshit spin after this game. I can't tell you the last time I've been so at odds with a national team coach for TnT.

17
Hire a local coach !!!

 ;D

I find them to be very arrogant and self centered and a know it all. Not open to any advice and play one brand of football.

Terry Fenwick IMO should be coaching T&T !!!! At least give him a shot !!!

But it probably wouldn't happen because of the Jaboteh v W Connection, Stuart Charles v Fenwick error....??

Unfortunately, Terry Fenwick will not be given a chance. That would make too much sense. He's familiar with the pro league, local culture and can probably persuade the English born players to represent us. Many in the local football fraternity do not like him. But God knows he cannot be worse than where we are at right now.

18
DJW was directly responsible for d decline of dat team before d hex....dat team that qualified for d hex never played together again until d hex had started....DJW manipulated d scheduling of friendlies so key players couldn't be released by clubs to make room for a bunch unfit pro leaguers to get playing time/put in d shop window....he was always miffed dat pro league players namely his, was not getting selected...burned his ass even more that as prez he couldn get spots even after throwing players on hart...dey couldn't make d cut for obvious reasons but he didn care...apart from ranjitsingh who practically beg. we pursue external talent with any serious ferver lately.

It is glaringly obvious by now that we should approach foreign born players that eligible to represent us imo. I know some of you will disagree but John Bostock (he's still only 27 years old) should be re-approached and with much more vigour. I am still not sure what went down but DL seems (at least from the outisde) made only a half-hearted approach.

Ranjitsingh as far as I know is also eligible to represent Guyana (in addition to Canada) I don't know what DL has against this man but surely, for heavens sake give the man a start.

DL, do the honorable thing and resign. It's not working out. This is rubbish football.
15 Losses, 5 wins and 5 draws. From quarter finals of GC and Hex to out in the group stages without scoring a single goal. Kiss group A and B goodbye in the Concacaf nations league and kiss the Hex goodbye. Without rankings in FIFA, all our players will remain in the rubbish league with Dennis Lawrence the failure coach that won't resign. Talk about Hero to Villain.
in all fairness to dennis the man has been playing pure away games mate. Him and the team had to do some rough traveling away from home in the orient in the middle east and in europe, how the hell hes going to have a good record playing so far away from home on every fifa date, and that’s because the federation has no money to host anyone. my beef with dennis is that he insist with players who has shown that they’re incapable and ignores players who could possibly make a difference.

I don’t understand why he has isolated boatswain, that lad had some potential and looked dangerous every time he plays yet he sticks with one dimensional winchester and Nathan Lewis who in all his competitive starts can’t find a single goal. he has all but ignored Greg Ranjitsingh who I’m sure is much better than the two goats we have, when will he give the lad a shot? it’s things like this that infuriates me about dennis lawrence.

This team is screaming out for a physically strong hold up player like Boatswain up top. That's why he was not even included in the 40 man provisional squad. This team knocks the ball sideways at the back (I guess our version of possession football) and then lumps it forward to either Nathan Lewis, Molino or Garcia. None of which plays that type of football. Almost always they don't win the header or are out muscled by the opposition defense.

Imagine Curacao, Martinique, Guyana and Bermuda have all scored goals and looked more organised than we have.  :'(

Marvin you have some nerve. that first goal would have been saved with relative ease by any agile young GK and if that wasn’t bad enough that third goal by none other than that over rated shit hound gyasi zardes who only scored because you were way off your line like you’ve grown accustomed too over the years of your many poor performances and terrible decisions.

had that been a good proficient custodian he would have been closer to his goal line which would have given him the ability to push that shot over bars and perform a basic save. look at any world class championship team, one if their major assets and keys to success is that they have a capable man between the uprights.

a dynamic smart capable goalie makes all the difference and it’s a teams last line of defence. in the Panama game you charged off your line missed your target completely only to trip up your defender who was challenging the attacker who probably would not have gotten a clean shot off had you not get in the way.

it would have served you better if you had cut off the angle and stayed in goal, it’s terrible decisions like that kept yourself and Jan from playing in any major league around the world. you guys never seem to improve over the last 10 years and instead stayed making the same ole basic errors.

90% of the times that we’ve conceded an excessive amount of goals you were between the sticks and that’s no accident. you leave your defenders to run wild, your positioning is flawed and you just all round make rash decisions. again, thanks for your service marvin but it’s time to give the youths a chance. have some pride mate and retire. You’re not good enough for this level.

Marvin Phillip has served our national team and represented our colours and has given his best, I thank him for his service. He's an excellent shot stopper but his game has flaws in my humble opinion. These flaws are not readily apparent because he does make excellent saves and often times keeps us in some games. However, his positioning is wildly off at times, either he does not control/communicate with the back line or they simply don't listen to him, he goes to ground way too easily at times. He can look spectacular at times but that's because he's making last ditch saves, often not his fault but the defenders. I hope Greg Ranjitsingh gets an opportunity in the next game.

Like Dennis thinks this is a charity or exhibition match. There are names on this list that should be nowhere near the airport.
I absolutely refuse to believe that marvin phillip and andrian foncette is actually better than this Canadian goalie who had nothing but praise heaped on him from his inception to the USL and now the MLS. I refuse to believe that and is now beginning to believe that lawrence is nursing bollocks in his heart towards this kid. Just my belief because I can’t think of any other reason why this lad keeps getting over looked for these two very basic local leaguers who lack so very much in the goal tending department.

Better believe it buddy. They haven't played a competitive league match for the whole year. There was even talk that players from Minor Leagues locally should be considered. That is depth, the lowest ebb that our National Football Program has reached. I've played minor league football, good heavens.
I'm hoping this is simply the squad available for the Japan match. Dennis Lawrence has a special place in the heart of fans for his contribution as a player but surely decisions like will eat away at that legacy.

To give away a goal like that at that time was criminal. 2nd half performance was full of discipline. We lack that go to centre forward on top.

It's the sort of question that would command the inquiry of the football media in football nations.

The above quote is from Seeker in a next thread.

I've wondered for a long time why our journalists don't demand certain answers from the FA and Head Coaches.

Why isn't Ranjitsingh being called up?

Wah happen to we scouting?

Where is Insider. We need answers

Wahappen to Lasana, he give up?

That would make too much and be too professional of our so-called football/sports media to do. I've been one to give Dennis Lawrence the benefit of the doubt because of what he has done representing the Red, White and Black but another omission for Greg Ranjitsingh when its glaringly obvious he merits a call up is getting to be too much. I've got nothing against Niklas Frenderup but what does Greg have to do to merit a call in Mr. Lawrence's eyes? Foncette and Phillip are decent goalkeepers we should be looking at keepers with the right age and profile to build our backline around.
