Anyone notice she only went after #7 and #21. Every piece a wildness was against those two only...makes me think she not simply lost control, but she specifically targetted two players for a reason. #7 elbowed here in the first clip, not sure what she had against #21.

Unbelievable video. How did she not get a straight red card, or two yellows over 90 minutes? For me, she ended up getting the yellow card for the least egregious act.

Man. Talk about overeaction. Is not like de man ask 'why he cyah do dat for T&T?' Nutten wrong with hoping goals for club could translate into goals for country, regardless of the difference between the two. Whatever de problems in de T&T squad, since when is such a crime to hope a striker buss de net for the national team?

And now we come to filho...

Quote
Ball being played at an entire different level and pace.

And yet United are STILL winning titles these days...

what does that have to do with anything? I'm saying everyone is playing at a higher level. why so defensive?

Quote
Mourinho's Chelsea came in and completely revolutionize the level of play and points you need to win the EPL.

Did he?

Chelsea finished with 95 points in 2004/05 (Mourino's first season in charge)
Chelsea finished with 91 points in 2005/06

Mourinho didn't really revolutionise anything. He broke the points record in 2004/05 by three points and then won the league the following season with the same points total that United achieved in 1999/2000.

Good point. I got that wrong as I was going off memory and didn't check stats. I think I know why I got it mixed up. The second season that Chelsea won with 91 points was the season ManU finished with 83 points. 83 points was ManU's total the last time ManU won the EPL prior to that in 2002-2003. I must have heard a commentator say it would have been enough to win the title the last time they did and remembered it wrong. my bad. But Chelsea did change the game imo. Note I said they changed both the points total and the level of play. They did break the record and the kind of points total you need to win now is hovering around the 90 point mark. Before that, it was possible to win the EPL with high 70s or low 80s, as ManU did in 2002-2003 for example. Yuh eh seeing that again. The second part is far more subjective, but I dod think the standard of play in the EPL (and football on the whole) is far higher now than 10 years ago. But for the purpose of this discussion, it's fair to say the ManU team of 1999/2000 also took it to another level. Sorry I mixed up that statistic

So finishing the league campaign with 90 points plus is nothing new is it? If thats the case, United broke the goals for record in the Premiership in 1999/2000 (97), can I say they revolutionised the Premiership as well?

Of course. ManU has played an integral part in improving the quality of the EPL in a massive way.

United also finished as champions with 92 points in 1993/94...So Chelsea break that record by three points, Mourinho should be hailed as some sort of messiah? United finished the season with points total above 90 on two separate occasions before Mourinho came along...Chelsea merely improved on that figure...by three points.

I'd hardly call that a revolution or a massive shift...

Quote
ManU finished a distant second to Chelsea and still had enough points to have broken the EPL record prior to that.

WRONG.

yep. already explained why i got that wrong

In Mourinho's first season in charge, United finished third with 77 points.

Yeah..like I said..I was remembering the 2nd season when United's point total was enough to win the EPL the last time United had won it. my mistake

The Premiership points record at that time was 92 (which was held by United). In Mourinho's second season, United finished in second with 83 points, 8 points behind Chelsea (who had incidentally won the league with 91 points, the same total United won the title with in 1999/2000). On each of those occasions, United were nowhere near breaking the Premiership points record...oops.

Statistically I see where I was wrong, but still stand by the idea that the game is played at a higher level now than it was 10 years ago and believe that Mourinho's Chelsea introduced the last big shift in what it takes to win the EPL. You say just 3 points, but if it was just 3 points, someone would have broken it already. Mourinho's Chelsea broke the record. Every time a team does that, they make the previously unattainable, a reality and it pushes the rest to higher heights. Arsenal did it the season before with their unbeaten league season. ManU did it before that with the treble. I see all these are revolutionary moments in the EPL.  BUt more importantly, I stand by the more important point I was trying to make..both trebles are equally impressive in my opinion.

For the fans that say ManU, the one thing you not considering is this....the ManU that was completely dsimantled by Barca last year would destroy the ManU of 99. Remember, Mourinho's Chelsea came in and completely revolutionize the level of play and points you need to win the EPL. I think there was a season that ManU finished a distant second to Chelsea and still had enough points to have broken the EPL record prior to that. So even in a space of 10 years, football is a whole different proposition now. Ball being played at an entire different level and pace.

But at the end of the day, like somebody said...3=3. Comparing trebles is kinda ridiculous.

Anyhow..de physio decide like he want to clown around for whoever was watching, and Bonera look like he tellin him to stop playing de arse. if dey were in something, dey wouldn't be out in de broad daylight, skinning dey teeth at whoever pass. men know everything they do on digital

These USA reservess missing some Africans, Asians and Latinos.  I cyah believe all the next best are all white.  In America come on.

that isn't so surprising. most of the people who play soccer in the US at the highest level are white, and let's not forget, the US is a predominantly white country. the game is becoming more integrated as can be seen in the US Confed Cup and youth squads. the USSF is making some moves to recruit talent that would not usually go through the 'usual channels'. but it's not like the US is overlooking a bunch of better non-white players. if you were to pick a US basketball B team or C team it would probably be mostly black players. why aren't there more Whites, Latinos and Asians? It seems like you can ask that question of almost any sport..just change the races depending on which sport you are discussing..and it's not a US thing either. We ask the same thing in T&T about white and Indian footballers. Right now, when it comes to soccer, most of the reserves are white in the US. Used to be the same with the A team, but that is getting more mixed..so with time, maybe that will be the case at all levels.

Correct me if I'm wrong....but is Bruce Arena the first club coach to recruit Birchie to play in the same position he occupies for T&T? I belive that part (not all) of Birchie's club problems in England were down to club coaches insisting he is a right sided midfielder while he plays defensive mid for T&T. Finally playing the same position for club and country, he can finally focus on one thing and I think we will see him devlop and improve as a defensive mf. This can only be good for the player and for T&T (although in the dying minutes of the game, he shiled of a man and then skip past a tackle by the right side corner flag, and I hadda tell mehself he have a lil right side skilss in trute..heheh)

By the way, he looked good in his 20 minutes or so. Easy game to get one's debut I guess, but he didn't really put a foot wrong. There are people here who feel Birchall cyah pass a ball. Well..obviously not smart to make any judgements after a 20 minutes, but I will go out on a limb and say you will see a decent passer of the ball now that he actually has men running off the ball into space. I was only hoping for one thing and that was for him to try a shot from distance. Ah time he take the ball down on his chest and he size it up and then decide to pass...but good debut.

Asylumseeker I said already that I knew that in my first post check the asterisks and the bottom of my post. Maybe I didn't explain it in a way that did show that I knew.

If this is better: Thierry Henry was born in the Metropolis, ''The Mainland'',..... Paris.

LOL @ BM

I think Marcos Senna is good call also Asylumseeker with Emmanuel Olisadebe, Tigana etc. Alot of players who mentioned have made a good contribution.

Thanks for all the replies to the thread.

The mention of Ray Houghton made me think of Aiden McGeady (No way this guy has made the same
contribution as RH lol) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSS61Deu8t8

Paul McGrath was born in Ealing, London and grew up in Dublin I forget.

Do not be so quick to believe that.  There is mystery surrounding the birthplace of Henry and this has been so for many years.  Henry has been said to be born in Guadeloupe, Haiti, and France.  Similarly Kareem Abdul Jabaar wasn't born in the US but you will find oodles of sources saying he was.  Unless you see de man bithpaper doh puh yuh head on no block.

killa..there is no mystery. there may be rumors and that is all well and good, but as i was saying to acb, all we can go on is reputable public data and they all have him born in a suburb in France. If anyone can find a public record of him disputing that he was born in France, or a credible source saying he was born elsewhere, then that should help clear it up, or at least pose a serious question. The official Barca website, run by the club has his birthplace in France. We don't have the birthpapers of any of these players...Until Henry publicy denies being born in France, for the purposes of this thread, he is French-born

12
Thierry Henry - Guadeloupe/France

Edgar Davids - Surinam/Holland

Mario Balotelli - Ghana/Italy U21

Davids better than Rijkaard?

Rijkaard was born in Holland (Amsterdam)

Henry was born in France (Parisian suburbs) & Balotelli was born in Italy.

Carib-Briton- this is a good thread... heritage is an interesting thing...

But when ah see Thomas Radzinski & Owen Hargreaves names gettin' call ah wonder if we trying to name the greatest, or if we just makin' a database of all lol... ;D  That said lewwe throw Fredy Adu in de mix nah....lol

maybe I'm mistaken, but remember hearing something about Rijkaard being born in Suriname, or maybe he just has roots there.

acb..reputable sources have him born in Holland. I do not think there is any public record of him disputing that.

Filho: I will agree with you on this....my definition on loyalty does leave a very fine line between a player being classed as loyal or stupid depending on the circumstances, but it's all subjective. I will use Matt LeTissier as an example, he was branded as unambitious / stupid when he turned down at least 4 moves (in my memory) to leave Southampton for bigger clubs and more money. I class him as loyal, He stated his reasons for staying with Southampton pretty clearly (most here should be aware of them so I won't bother listing them) and his actions during and since have never contradicted his reasons. Donovan's actions (still trying to play in Europe) don't particularly suggest he has any great affection or debt to his current employers is all I'm saying. Unlike Beckham he did'nt really have any concrete reason to make a loan move to Europe last season.

Ah go leave it there though.

Robert Pires - Villarreal

Christian Vieri - AC Milan

Name a player in recent times who went to your side and subsequently left with a higher value on the transfer market, or left as a better and more coveted player in the EPL.

Never thought of it that way in trute - only player to do that was probably Andy Cole, and that is not recent times. I don't know what it is wit Newcastle.

Grande...Pires is a big big player at Villareal. Instrumental in them finishing 2nd in la Liga 2 seasons ago and a big player in their challenge to play in Europe this season. Contrast him to Edmilson (ex-Barca) who went Villareal, never to be heard of again. Pires sweating right through and giving man-of-the-match performances regular. Where he really disappear is the international scene. Domenech drop de man cold

So yuh think Birchall playing for T&T cuz that was his first choice from since he was a youth?  I doh think so. If Birchy was good enough to rep England, yuh woulda never know he was a Trini. But as fate would have it, this was his best avenue to international football and Talles link him. And as far as I see...his loyalty is not in question. You don't think all of our national team players realize that a good set of performances for T&T could boost their club careers. So Landon has shown he'd like to go to Europe..no question he has extra incentive to play well. But that is the case with almost any player. By your logic, we should question the loyalty of any player who not playing at the highest possible level they could play at...nonsense.

I'm sorry!? Where in my post did I make a general comment about all footballers? I talking about Landon Donovan only! Different players have different reasons for sticking with certain teams and with certain leagues. Birchall situation is nothing similar to Donovan's, how can you make a comparison between them? The reasons for choosing to keep playing for a national team are very different to those of choosing to play for a club side. National teams doh pay yuh daily wage and you only have to play for them ah handful of times per year....I talking about ah fella who choosing to continue a career in a lesser league than prove his supposed class in bigger, more elite leagues. You have completely lost me on your logic there. It is obvious your opinion on what loyalty means is clearly different to mine. To me loyalty in the situation I was discussing, is a player who spurns better options because they have an allegiance with or feel they owe the club they play for. I think Donovan was staying because he doesn't believe the options currently available to him in Europe would actually improve his standing, I do not think he is staying because he loves/or owes the Galaxy or MLS! Now if you argue like Mr Killa an say you disagree with my reasons for why he chooses to stay in the MLS....well ah could understand that. But to me your argument is nonsense.

Mr Killa, yeah we go have to agree to disagree.

breds...if yuh cyah see the analogies, lemme say it another way.....you said you wouldn't call Landon loyal. He basically playing for La Galaxy cuz he couldn't make at a big club in Europe. All I saying is look Birchy playing for T&T cuz he couldn't make playing for England. But that does not mean he is not loyal to T&T cause now that he is made his decision. i agree playing for club and country can be 2 different things, but i can make a similar analogy to many club players. i figured Birchy is someone we could all relate to and the analogy has similarities, like it or not.

my second point, i will retract. i thought you were trying to say he only playing hard cuz he wants to get scouted by a bigger club. that's why i made the point that could be true of any number of footballers. and the national team analogy fits. by that logic any player who plays hard for the national team hoping to be scouted by a big club, or any club player who does the same not necessarily loyal. you can be very loyal to your club or country and still have motivations to succeed that have nothing to do with loyalty. BUT..my bad. It is an irrelevant point. I realize now that was not in your main argument. Hard luck.

In end, you and i doh know Landon personally so we not in a position to talk about him in that way, that is why i use a general examples to say that your reasoning doesn't make sense. your def. of loyalty kinda limited. funny thing is i would put real money on you criticizing Donavan for being unambitious and stupid..if he actually turned down better offers to stay in MLS. perhaps ah wrong, but i guarantee you'd be the only one who would be caling dat loyalty if that was the case

if you still eh see what i getting at cool..we go agree to disagree. hard luck with the 2nd paragraph. i was off base dey

10. Brian Laudrup (Euro 92. Talk done)

9. Romario (Absolute machine. Coulda score with his nose hairs and had speed for days. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks Romario in WC 94 was as good as it got. He was way better than that)

8. Claudio Canniggia (hated him as a footballer, but he was so unbelievably fast on a ball. it was sick to see Canniggia opening up into some space)

7. Cafu (best thing to ever run a right side...ever)

6. Edgar Davids (first player imo to make defensive midfield look exciting. snarling, lung busting performance every game. Predecessor to Gattusso..but with more technical ability)

6. Rivaldo (somehow still underrated by so many..i miss this player. simply awesome)

5. Jayjay Okocha ( do i really have to explain why. every game..no every touch was a show. with end product to boot)

4. Dinho (ridiculous skill and vision...was developing into a class above his peers. nuff flair. watching him used to be a lot of fun)

3. Zidane (give ordinary plays a touch of class. silky silky smooth)

2. Maradona (not much to say here. genius)

1. Ronaldo (raw pace, pure skills, deadly finish, and that was after 2 surgeries...best I ever saw at his peak)

Allyuh is rell biased assholes oui!  He rip Beckham and everyone say he shouldna do it so.  He man up and admit to doin shit and now it's viewed as backpedalling?  Wey allyuh does come up with dem reverse brand ah logic from?

Me eh no Donovan fan and I agree with anyone that says he should not have gone public (unless he had these convos with Becks to no avail).  Maybe Donovan realized himself, was told by teamates or Galaxy brass, or maybe it was friends and fam.  however he arrive at the realization is irrelivant.  Many athletes and stars would not make any further statement as to their fallacy in approach, so I give credit to Donovan for admitting this publicly.  As for the spotlight thing it might well be part of it, but I wouldn't fault him for that considering he has shown a very high level of loyalty to both the Galaxy and MLS as a whole by committing himself to the cause (even when he could still have played in Europe).

I wouldn't call it loyalty, I would call it an inabilty to get a contract with a big European Team and the high possibility he would be a bitpart player with most tophalf sides in the Big European leagues. By staying in the MLS he garunteed to be a starter, pick-up one of the bigger wage packets in the league and gain good bucks from endorsment as he is a marquee American player. By scrunting round Europe, he would become the forgotten man pretty quick in the US and certainly wouldn't be garunteed a starting place or significant endorsements because of that. He is staying where he knows he can maximise his potential with the occasional foray into Europe in the hope he could get a sweet deal. Again, ah would'nt class that as loyalty.

So yuh think Birchall playing for T&T cuz that was his first choice from since he was a youth?  I doh think so. If Birchy was good enough to rep England, yuh woulda never know he was a Trini. Nah....see Omar post. Newcastle blight dat more than RM. He left Real Madrid as one of the in form strikers in La Liga and a fan favorite. Poor start to the season was turned around with a strong second half and 13 goals in the league, 16 in all competitions. Not bad for someone who spent half the season on the bench. 2nd only to Ronaldo in the team and way ahead of Raul who got far more starts up front. Injuries really start to kill de man after he joined Newcastle But he at manU now..great chance for a resurrection.

Newcastle Utd is the ultimate graveyard club.

Go there if you want your career to go into an unexplicable downhill spiral with injuries or loss of form the most common factors.

- Michael Owen
- Damien Duff
- Obafemi Martins
- Alan Smith
- Claudio Cacapa
- Albert Luque
- Jonas Gutierrez
- Geremi Nijtap

... all very good - excellent players in their own right before they went there and we stricken by 'the blight'.

Collocini...Decent Argentine international consistently looked lost in a Newcastle defense

when donovan could put himself in the same league as beckham, then he could talk...otherwise he should keep his mouth shut

what dat have to do wit anything. cuz yuh good yuh have license to move like ah a$$? never understood the 'know yuh place' attitude.

Even if he is wrong about Becks, Donavan have all right to call him out bout things that bothering him...but not in a book and behind his back so. Daiz team business that need to be handled like mature adults behind close doors.

it have to do with everything.  If he was the same level, go for it Donovan, speak yuh mind; otherwise he'll just look bitter and jealous which others have already noted.  If Kaka start calling out Beckham, more people would pay attention for the sole fact they serious ballers.  Donovan trying to get he name out there. simple as that. ..but yeah he if really had concerns i agree, keep that for the locker room

be that as it may, it is still nonsense. i don't know if Donavan telling the truth, but truth is truth regardless who tells it. if most people want to be so cynical, then it's too bad. if we all waited for someone of higher 'status' to pull somebody up, the world would be worse for it. and there is no logic behind thinking a more skilled player can't have ulterior motives either. but i guess that is how the average person thinks. Even so, we talking about the Galaxy and given the situation, of all the players who would be expected to talk to Becks, it would be Landon. But we agree that Landon's gripe is not the public's business. I can't agree with his movements, even if he has every right to feel the way he does.

For the mother of all conspiracy theories though...the timing of this book too suspicious. How is the 'Beckham Experiment' failed if it not over. How come the book coming out exactly on Becks return. (1) What if this is just MLS drumming up some drama for the league and Landon and Beckham in on it. Nahhhhhh...never was a big conspiracy theorist..I feel Landon eat dat bait and (2) I for one will be checking out Galaxy games just to see if is pure hate and they acting normal

If (1) is true and (2) takes place (for the general public), then mission accomplished, no?

I was kidding with the conspiracy theory, but I think (2) is going to happen (with the US football fans)) to some extent regardless of whether or not (1) is true

saw him playing in the Copa Libertadores semifinal for Brazilian side Gremio. Fell off the radar when he went to Moscow but is on loan in Brazil, and at 25 he might still be able to revive a once promising career. was surprised how quickly he fell off after a fairly bright start at Barca.

I tort the idea of the thread was for players who were expected to light it up, or who still had a lot to offer to the game and fail monumentally. Some of the men who getting call here was well over the hill and were already on the way out of the game. Others only play one season and just didn't play well..AND still at the club. One bad season doh make it a graveyard club. Dat come like jumping the gun and calling Barca the graveyard club for Henry in his first season, and den having to retract after this season.

i wonder if the game gets replayed or if the team with the racist fans loses the points? if it is the former, then that is a valid question by sammy

what if both teams have vocally racist fans?

the ruling could also attract racist groups who don't give a flying f*ck about football and just want a public forum to be seen.

nice idea..hope they have the details sorted

I agree Beckham half arsed it and I have stated so before but it appears that Donovan saw an opportunity tuh get back at Beckham after seemingly being displaced. And all he did is confirm he is a little punk who does not have the guts that Beckham has tuh take on new challenges and succeed.

haha..giggsy yuh real good. i remember yuh used to say he didn't have the guts to try new challenges. but wait, he went and try a new challenge..now he doh have the guts to try a new challenge AND succeed. oh gosh..jes admit yuh doh like de man nah  ;D

when donovan could put himself in the same league as beckham, then he could talk...otherwise he should keep his mouth shut

what dat have to do wit anything. cuz yuh good yuh have license to move like ah a$$? never understood the 'know yuh place' attitude.

Even if he is wrong about Becks, Donavan have all right to call him out bout things that bothering him...but not in a book and behind his back so. Daiz team business that need to be handled like mature adults behind close doors.

Scary that such a senior coach could write such a poor synopsis of the games he watched (assuming he actually watched the games).
