Auvray is the real deal, but i'd like him to be a bit more decisive in that attacking third, conditions were terrible in the first half and that waterlogged pitch can take the energy out your legs easily go he gets a bligh today.

Somehow i feel we got St Kitts best effort today. Jamaica and USA will rout them. We got the result we needed, an extra goal would have been nice in case it came down to a goal difference scenario but we in control of our own destiny. I felt as well as Jamaica looked yesterday, they lacked composure in the final third of the game, invited pressure which resulted in the USA equalizer but more so it was a function of their personnel on the field. I think we have more players genuinely adept at playing through midfield.

Fair result, we should have protected our lead but PR was simply more desperate. T&T football has always been a mental challenge and today was just another example, many times especially in the first half we were just too casual in our play, we won the first game comfortably so the mindset was that we gonna roll the rest off the teams. I said in the Guyana thread that we just need to get the results and get the hell out of this group. Two draws is enough to be out of contention, we can’t mess around. Regardless of our position we have play desperate and with urgency.

PR knew it was do or die and did enough to keep their mathematical chance alive, credit to them.

We always get the result we deserve, today is no different,on to the next game.

Style is one thing, this strange version of qualification requires results.

3 goals
Clean sheet

I'll take that result and on to the next. Ideal start and ideal opponent to kick off, Guyana was poor especially in that first half which we took advantage of. Let's see what the PR game brings.

Results in itself will build confidence and belief, we just need to get out of this group. If we keep the nucleus of this squad playing the cohesiveness will get better as the opposition gets more difficult.

It won't be easy but its a start.

Football / Re: Fire Dennis Lawrence Thread.
« on: October 19, 2018, 09:02:17 AM »
Having provoked the discussion, I should comment.

I don't think Dennis Lawrence should be fired and even if I did,  the political reality within the federation seems to suggest that the only way he leaves the job is if he walks away from it. Fair enough, that's merited. Although,  if he had walked away after WC qualifying, many would have bawled "foul!"

He may leave the job without us ever getting to the product he wants to be delivered on the field (see Tallman's comments), being delivered. Nonetheless, it still has to be acknowledged that what we are witnessing under his tenure is on-the-job training and learning, despite his experiences abroad.

Nothing is wrong with learning on-the-job. Things would be worse if he wasn't. The critical issue, however, is what is the beneficial yield for national team quality players that would define DL's legacy. What would be the nugget we could look back to this period and view as defining as a takeaway? In his remaining time as boss,  I'm hoping to see that answer emerge. It has to if we're not merely "marking time".

I generally concur, I think with Dennis also is that while he generally has a tactical plan for how he wants to play, we have core deficiencies. The personnel that we have available will struggle as we are not technically good separate and a part from 2 or 3 players our pool is really poor at the moment and from the moment we are missing a few first team players, we go from looking decent to really poor. No Guerra, Jones and Molino still injured and without those 3 playing together which will probably not happen till middle of next year we will not play our best football.

The downside of having one fixture booked ...
Really breds?  They would have been able to train on practice fields had there been multiple fixtures?

I don’t see how.

The crux of Lawrence's comments were focused on the frustration stemming from the logistics around ONE match and perhaps not (at the moment he was speaking) even getting/having the benefit of that match (because his words suggested that it coming off was at risk).

The preparations for a second match would (still) have allowed the coaching staff to observe players (especially players like Guerra who have not been in the recent mix) without the trip being a potential net loss. This is why (for example) teams even opt to play each other more than once within a matter of days (as is happening with Brazil and Mexico currently in the U-20 age group, playing three games).

Also seems like the FA relying heavily on other countries to foot the bill for friendlies as well. One of the bits of info before the match was around the travel which was booked by the UAE FA which caused visa issues for some players due to connecting flights through the USA.

Arab Gulf and Asian FAs may have the resources to do this hence the friendlies this month and the next.

Terrible news, prayerful for a healthy recovery. Justifies him going to Minnesota for a pay hike as in professional sports the unthinkable can happen just like that. Look out for your best interests at every turn.

That result in San Pedro Sula is good for us as it keeps both 3rd and 4th place in striking distance if we can get a result tonight

Hear nah, I not even upset about this result yes.

I will always support Trinidad and Tobago football, these fellas share a passport and heritage with me and I will do my part.

But this group of players, coaches and administrators were not good enough today across all accountabilities. Venue, tactics, formation, selection, application and effort.

Only mathematically possible to qualify, the campaign hangs by a thread. I just come back from Couva after waiting an hour and a half to get out the venue, I will try to break down the flawed tactics tomorrow, but in essence like a previous poster said, pass to Kevin and Joevin and hope for the best.

One question though for those who can answer: HOW MUCH 3 HAND KNOCK CAN ONE PLAY WHERE THE LOSERS DRINK SO MUCH WATER THAT IT STARTS TO IMPACT PERFORMANCE???

3 CBs actually enable better attacking play, you can deploy wing backs further up the field when in possession knowing you have the defensive cover to shift across and become less vulnerable to a counter attack than a traditional back 4
Ok I got you, makes sense. If we implement it that way then it could be beneficial, I'll like to see us press more in this game.
Who will you recommend for our other outside back with Joevin?

That position requires high endurance and work rate, ideally Cato as he plays that role for his club but his end product is not always great but will put a shift in. Alternatively Alvin Jones can be utilized.

How versatile are our 3 CBs?

I like the combination of Cyrus, Bateau and Williams but Mitchell is right there, as he is prob the best on attacking set pieces alongside Bateau, Abu Bakr is good in the air defensively but doesn't have the best foot speed , David is good with the ball at his feet but I don't like his defensive positioning at times, Cyrus has emerged as one our better individual defenders in recent months.

Bateau plus any other 2 is okay with me.

I wonder if DL will deploy 3 CBs for this game, it's the only position that we have good depth in the squad.

Cyrus
Williams
Bateau
Mitchell
David
Abu Bakr

Bateau coming in Wednesday for the game on Friday? Sighs.....

That is one full session before the game for our best defender, what is the likelihood of him starting that Honduras game, 2 days of travel with all that jet lag.

This is where the FA need to play a lil more hardball via FIFA with those clubs, considering his travel he should have been released earlier than Sunday.

A few takeaways no match report:

Really poor tonight in key areas of defensive midfield and the attacking third. Lacking quality in depth, attacking fringe players who actually stood a chance of playing time in the next two games were poor tonight.

The Jamaica team was a poor outfit as well so the sides were relatively even matched. Tappa's success is that he gets his tactics right

Poor officiating again, I mean really poor, basic errors from the Guyanese referee on the second goal in particular I already fearful for next week.

Losing is a culture and habit forming, 4 losses on the trot, it's good to have games but have to be watchful on developing a comfort for accepting these results with what is now a C team.

lol, the man just bail out and send a text yes.

This rounds me ain't care bout Seattle, the last two set of qualifiers in March and June Seattle played on the Sunday night and with the amount of travel involved to get into camp he was below his best and couldn't play the full 90 being subbed in every game.

I'm happy to have him early and settled in camp. Other players can't pull this move and even if they block the JA game he will at least be here.

Warriors time is now.

Another developmental scrimmage which is good for both countries but for T&T less then 20% of this squad will feature in the squad for the WCQ games and most likely only Williams, Cato and Lewis will actually take the field come September. So this does little as far as any real preparation for those games.

Regardless I will be there to cheer on the boys.
