FF, someone else was nice enough to make the point that the substitute goalkeeper was still on the bench.

As far as that newspaper article is concerned, the indicators are not there to show that the #1 was between the sticks at the beginning of the game. Let me put it to you another way, the #2 goalkeeper could have been used earlier in the game. I wasn't there! So you could have made your response a lot less snarky if you had simply said that he was still on the bench!

Believe me, speaking about being emotional, I put a noose around me tongue before responding to your little "common sense" remark!!!

Caranage BOY, u talking NONSENSE. We should NOT be losing to Bermuda. NO excuse!!! If u cannot beat Bermuda, how are we expected to beat Mex, USA, Costa Rica, who ALL played high level international games, every single month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I normally ignore certain rebuttals on this forum, because everyone has their opinion. However, I see the need to respond to the above statement since I'm not anyone's whipping boy!

Small Change did you read my entire post? If so, did you really read it carefully?

Here is the key section of my post again:

Quote
In any case, we went to Bermuda with a B team to play against their A team in their own backyard. If this were Mexico or the USA going to Bermuda with a B team, thing might have been different. However, we don’t have the kind of depth of those countries.

The point that I was making here is we sent a B team to play Bermuda’s best team. I believe that we might be fooling ourselves into thinking that because we made the 2006 World Cup, that any team we field would be able to beat any of the Caribbean’s best teams anytime. To put it simply, we just do not have the depth to make that assertion possible. This was similar to Russell Latapy thinking that we could win the Digicel cup with an ALL Pro-League team.

Additionally, we are not that far ahead of the other Caribbean islands as we think we are. The gap is a lot smaller than we think.

Therefore, Small Change, I wasn't just making excuses. I was making the point that we are fooling ourselves. We might be better than Bermuda, but we're really not quite as far along as we think.

Carenage boy.. go back and read that article and the bolded part especially and tell me if you come to the same conclusion again

FF, enlighten me please! I didn't see the game. Was the substitute goalkeeper shown the red card before or after getting on the pitch? From my very very very limited understanding of football over the years, if you get a red card, you leave the pitch. May be I'm wrong; I do not claim to be an expert at all things. If that wasn't what happened (since I didn't see the game), then tell me what happened please.

The information (below) does not look too encouraging for our team’s performance. It appears that at some point during the game the Bermuda team was playing a man down and we could not take advantage of this situation!

"I've been through it and worse before. I know the fans and the critics as well as the many people who call themselves football experts will be having a go at us because it's hard to accept a loss to Bermuda when we are looking to be able to compete with the likes of Mexico and Costa Rica next year.

I’m with you on this one Stern John! I find that our people are unlike any Caribbean island. If this happened anywhere else in the Caribbean, the fans would rally behind the team and support them to the end.

However, here in T&T, we’re going to blame the players, ask for the head of the coach and refuse to go to the stadium to support the team.

I would like to believe that we dominated the game as Stern John stated.

In any case, we went to Bermuda with a B team to play against their A team in their own backyard. If this were Mexico or the USA going to Bermuda with a B team, thing might have been different. However, we don’t have the kind of depth of those countries.

Instead of laying blame, let’s vibes it up and support the team!

Football / Re: Should FIFA modify the offside & substitute rules ?
« on: October 04, 2011, 10:48:13 AM »
Hi Sam,

Please specify how you would like to modify the offside rule. Right now, a player can remain offside as long as he does not interfere with play, interfere with an opponent or gain an advantage while in that position. For example, he is offside and a midfielder passes the ball to him while in that position, the flagman should rule an offside offense.

I too would like to see some relaxing of the offside rule, but not have the rule eliminated altogether. If the rule were relaxed, Cornell Glenn would be a perfect candidate to take advantage of this since he likes to lurk high up the field anyway.

Regarding subs, I think increasing the sub quota could produce some problems. Sometimes an inferior team can prevail as long as their players have a high level of fitness. We saw that happen during our last campaign where we were dominating El Salvador, only to see them get back in the game, because our players got tired.

I would argue to leave the substitution limits as they are and force coaches to focus on higher fitness levels for their players.

Please let me know what you think.

No disrespect to Carter, but I love it when men make unqualified statements like this. Please take a look at the American Rugby, um National Football League or NFL. Their league has two military teams in their league roster.. Army and Navy!

It's sad that the current SOE is preventing these teams from playing, but I think excluding them might be necessary.

Army and Navy field their best teams at College level. i.e. amateurs.

OK, I coming out of hiding. I stand corrected dey boy! I de one making unqualified statements :-[

However, I must stick to the point that we're not the only league with military teams playing professionally at the football level. Please see the link below:

« on: September 08, 2011, 10:13:25 AM »
So the main sticking point  Grin...was that one should not come out the post when defending. Stay and hold it.
No matter how many attackers there were bearing down on you.

If a defender stays between the posts, he's not a defender; he's a goalkeeper.

Small-goal defending does not allow for a goalkeeper. I assume you're playing 3 or 5 a side. In that case, the defenders should be actively moving up and down their half.

Finally,I bounced into Tony Warner this morning at the airport and told him about the forum... so he promised to visit...hope he survives the experience!!!

 ;D
Hope he doesn't visit the forum. Otherwise, he'll back his bag and head back to NZ. He needs more time off the bench back in NZ to regain the respect that many on this forum had for him.

Thanks for all the detail Patriot!

What happened to Jan Michael Williams?

Bajans cah pick up the Indian team at the airport, cah cut the grass at the stadium and now cah manage a signal feed for the game.

They sure they want to play football.

The latter two points (grass cutting and signal field) might be tactical. Don't underestimate BIM!

And you say "through friendly". When that go be. Time for friendlies done.

If we make it from one level up to the next, there will be time gaps between each level of competition. That would be enough time to squeeze in friendlies. I think the team needs as much games as possible to gel.

It was unprofessional (even irresponsible) of the TTFF to allow all those opportunities for friendlies to slip away!

Warner then had some antics of his own…after looking so stellar in the warm up, he attempted a kneeling down thigh trap, that inadvertently bounced off his knee. Then another speculative shot/cross from a Bermudian player was totally fumbled by him and it went for a corner…arggh.
After that the crowd just started to ketch kicks off the man and any time he held the ball he was applauded sarcastically.

Sounds to me like Warner had a game not unlike some of our past custodians. Shaka Hislop (one of our best custodians ever) had a real fumble fest in the 5-0 loss to Guatemala. Kelvin Jack has been known to give men heart-attacks in just about every international game he's played between the sticks.

We need to give this lad one more chance to get the cobwebs out (maybe through friendlies). After all, this is the first time he's played with us in about five or six years and the stakes were much higher than at the club level.

I don't mind taking another 1-0 in this match too.  Keep us under the radar and keep we head small.  After watching USA and CR last night.  CR won 1-0.   :o  Second rounds will be fire.

If we make it through these games, then IMO, the countries to worry about at the next levels are Mexico, Costa Rica and the USA.

Of the Central American countries, we need to be concerned about Panama and Costa Rica. I don't think we have that much to fear from Honduras; they are heavily over-rated at the moment. I've seen the Hondurans play their last few games and I can tell you that we need to be more afraid of Jamaica than Honduras. The Hondurans are playing terrible football right now.

So, it's time for T&T to right the ship, setup some training camps and play plenty of international friendlies. We have the right coach, we just need to help him out!

Nice interview Mr Flex Mohammed.

However.

Lincoln answer these questions like he knows all the answers, but when he had his chance, what did he do ?

What did he develop ?

He has been in T&T for 7 years and can only name two local players as future stars, this is a joke, clearly, he did not know what was going on in T&T football.

In Mr. Philip's defense, he did say that there were some in the TTFF that either did not cooperate with his efforts or even blocked them. It takes more than one man (or woman) to make a successful TTFF.

Whispers of the name Anthony Warner sounds ludicrous to my ears, knowing that even four years ago, he was not good enough to play at the national level

Really? Sounds to me like Mr. Corneal is just fluffing words to fill out an article here. Five years ago, Warner was seriously considered for the national team and even played in a friendly against Iceland. He wasn't called up, because we already had three very capable and proven goalkeepers in Shaka, Kelvin Jack and Ince.

Warner is a very good goalkeeper and we'll be fortunate if he accepts our offer!

Football / Re: Look Loy candidate for EFA president.
« on: August 28, 2011, 12:56:49 PM »
I have just returned from the EFA AGM. As expected, the TTFF-appointed election officer, Wayne Riley, declared the  Look Loy slate "fraudently" seconded by Prisons Sports Club, which has stood by its act of secondment. The claim, therefore, is that the outgoing executive committee is unopposed, and they were therefore returned to office by Riley.

Riley refused to allow the AGM to decide matter under existing EFA constitutional provision that provides for the AGM to settle issue that arise in emergency. The returning "president" Lennox Watson then declared the meeting closed and walked out.

After this, thirteen (13) of the seventeen (17) clubs at AGM signed a demand for new a AGM to be held on Sunday 4 September, at 10:00AM. If  (or when) this bankrupt, illegitimate and unconstitutional regime attempt to ignore the demand the clubs will respond.

::) Sounds like the Sepp Blatter election all over again!  >:(

Football / Re: The sinking ship - a call to boycott T&T football.
« on: August 18, 2011, 02:50:14 AM »
Although I share the forum's frustration with the current state of football back home, I cannot agree that boycotting the games is the right thing to do. If there's even the smallest glimmer of hope that this squad can make it to Brazil, then they will need the twelfth man out in the stands.

If we have given up on 2014 altogether, then it's time for the government to intervene in the affairs of the TTFF followed by the knee-jerk FIFA ban. That's the fastest way to affect change. Otherwise, I would like to to put some hope in Controversial's statement about the possibility of a developing struggle against TTFF that might be in the works.

We can write our letters of protest and disgust to the TTFF, but still show up to support our players. While at the games, carry statements, banners or placards expressing your disgust with the way things are being run.

Don't boycott, but let them know how you feel!

They don't already know how we feel??  The TTFF never before cared how fans felt... what will make them care now?

steups...

Boycott or not, TTFF will still get government money (even if indirectly). What will result from a boycott, is lack of support for our home games. However, Warrior fans putting up signs during a game and stating why the TTFF's administration must go, will bring international publicity to the issue.

Just imagine if USA playing us at Hasley Crawford. ESPN, ABC and FOX sports are sure to cover that game. If Warrior fans have banners up stating that 'Camps Must GO', that would be good for some free publicity.

Even though that was a 1-0 loss to Chile, that was still a good showing from the girls. I don't know what the quality of the coaching is for the U15 girls. However, I'm sure that the coaching staff know what they're doing.

On the other hand, I've seen clips of the Pro League U14 boys playing and I'm not that impressed with what I've seen. I am a coach in central NJ and I've coached U14 boys who play in both Inter-County and Travel soccer, so I have something to compare these boys against. What I fail to see from the Pro League U14 boys are any structured playing or half-way decent ball passing. Mind you, the speed and intensity of their playing is very impressive, but I haven't once seen a descent ball passed from midfield to the forwards not even once.

Someone might argue that this is only U14, give the boys a break! Well, this is the stage of development where the quality has to start. You can't wait until these young men are playing for the senior men's team then to ask for proper ball handling. It starts at the U14 level.

If anyone is offended, then let me know. May be I can arrange for the NJ Inter-County or NJ Travel champs to play the best T&T U14 Pro League Boys teams. How about Joe Public U14 Boys against NJ Travel U14 Boys champs? Any takers?

Don't you think Oliver Camps is being a little to friendly in that picture. Look where he has his hands around these girls hips. Coach Even Pellerud  is discrete enough to keep his hands high around the shoulders.

May be Camps is not thinking about it, but it does look a little too friendly.  :justkidding:

It's nice that we're starting to see friendly games underway. However, as we start developing, I'd like to see us take things up a notch. When we can't get friendlies with the likes of Chile and England, we should be trying to get friendlies at a level no lower than Guatemala, El Salvador, Jamaica and Cuba.

Games against the like of Antigua, St. Kitts and Barbados should be used only for the purpose of selecting a working squad.
