General Discussion / Little "rich" children cyar live in T&T
« on: October 10, 2006, 10:10:35 AM »
TT$35,000 the cost of a dead child in Trinidad.  Kidnap victim Riaz...dead! How do you feel about this? I feel terrble and angry! I am so very embarassed for T&T. The SocaWarriors tried their utmost to give T&T a sign...a sign that we could be better but alas, where have our values gone? T&T should not be a "kidnap" state!  >:(

As a geographer I could understand Fox Sport's dilemma. Many, many American journalists and news reporters do not have a clue about where anything is located.  In a survey taken by National Geographic, some Americans could not find the USA on a world map and 85% could not find Iraq.  :rotfl: :rotfl:

Take nothing away from Shaka - he was the man of the match.  But Yorke was a madman out there - he won plenty of tackles and no one - press or on this board - seem to be singing his praises.
They watch the same game I did - he was a Warrior - doing what it takes to stay alive.

Yes breds...Yorke was playing like ten men almost in every position on the field.

Yes brethren, win lose or draw...dat doh matter.  What we all should be proud of is that the SocaWarriors...our very own roots people made it to the football world of fame...as I always say to my students...fame, fortune and favor comes to those who have a focus.  Saturday will come and it will go...what we must remember is the resolve of a tiny nation to annouce itself to the world...we eh fraid nobody! T&T has proved itself on the world stage in almost every category of sport and other disciplines.  We must know too that anything could happen on Saturday...my colleague and friend (a Dutchman) said that the ball is always round. :) :) :) :)

« on: May 02, 2006, 09:28:04 AM »
Our flag was also flying very high in Akron, Ohio at the International Association of Pan Conference during the weekend of April 28-30, 2006.  I attended this conference as a pan enthusiast and met many Trinis including the the "Father of the Modern Steelpan" Ellie Manette himself. I want to add that Pan is played with reverence in the USA.  I cannot explain everything I saw with respect to the scientific development of pan but what I know is that pan has entered the realm of rocket science.  Our flag will continue to fly high everywhere else in the world but it is regrettable that I have to cry when everyday I continue to see and read stories like:"T&T among top 6 homicidal nations." I have to weep when I contemplate on the TT Express article: "Man slain on way from church."

Fly flag fly,
Up in the sky
Fly high,
While some cry...
And others sigh,
Do or die!
Let us try
To fix the eye,
On the flag flying high.

Football / Re: most racist country
« on: April 04, 2006, 01:58:45 PM »
this thread is kinda ironic since it will expose our own biases and ignorance...most have no clue what they are talking about and their answers to this question are based on guessing and broad generalizations...every country has a racist element...do not let the press tell you who is more racist than who. just because their is less racism in a football stadium does not say squat about the attitudes of the general public.....I've been to a lot of places and the greatest racism I have ever experienced is in Brazil...but Brazil does not have a particularly racist reputation, and I certainly do not think there is more racism there than anywhere else. Racists from their ignorant opinions by using broad generalizations and using a few negative examples and attributing it to everyone of a certain ilk...and that is exactly what we doing on this thread....

Funny you should say Brazil. My cousin (he's there right now) have been going to Brazil every year now for the past 5-6 years for the winter (3-4 months). The main reason he goes there other than he now has a house there is the fact that as he says "it the most comfortable place i've ever been.. he claims that white, black green blue.. all live better together, than he's ever experienced. Even better than the way he remembered it being in trinidad. He says that he does not get the feeling that he's black. or judged or identified by the colour of his skin or the curl of his hair. He referred to by his name and not his features (the black guy).

I'll have to ask him when we speak next if his judgment is based on his eyes being clouded by all the bubblenuts.. on the copa beaches.

Thank God yuh cousin living happy in Brazil. Buh lemme tell yuh sumting...Brazil have over 240 color gardations and guess who is always at the bottom on the list...Blacks.  It eh sumting nice to know buh tings changing...it bong tuh change out dey because is black and mixtures of black playing ball out dey. Yuh say whatever, buh anywhere yuh go where there is white and black, there will be some form of discrimination on both sides of the fence.  And what about T&T? Yuh tink dem French Creoles and Shackoblanc (whitey cacaroach) Backra Johnnie's eh racist? Yuh tink dem Chinee and dem eh racist? Yuh tink dem fair-skinned Indo-trinidadians want anyting tuh do with dey own black Indians? Some people does look like dey eh racist buh jes tell dem dat yuh in love wid dey son or daughter then yuh go see wey barley grow. Always remember the words of the Master: Be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove...

Let's get real here for a moment.  A lot of people (including myself) want T&T to beat England and Sweden - and Paraguay.  But I was watching the Barcelona vs. Real Madrid game, and I really had to ask myself: is T&T even good enough to beat Barcelona?  **Modified** Well this is the kind of opposition that we will be facing in the World Cup.

Let me hear your views.... Also if you think that this is just another offbeat topic, don't bother to respond... I really don't want to hear any foolish comments like "who cares" etc.

I read today that a news paper in the UK has accused the SOCAWARRIORS of practicing obeah to destabilized them and win matches. I want to know the views of my brethren on this website. It is quite possible that many Brits as well as Germans are still very superstitious. Remember Hitler used necromancy and clairvoyants to fight his war. Colonial masters (plantocrats) charged an imprisoned the descendants of African slaves in Trinidad for beating their drums...relentless as they were, Trinidadians have survived the worst treatment...but lo and behold the steelpan was born and is now a shining example of resistance and resilience in the face of repression! When is the last time yuh hear an opposition comment on our ability to possess the ball.  We have made great strides under Beenie's tutelage.

Yes...I have been saying it all along...how many Dutch coaches have teams inside Germany 2006? Four! It is quite possible that Dutch caoches have a formula.  Beenie's formula worked wonders for the SocaWarriors...Warriors are people who are relentless, driven, fall dong, get up, fight...if you are not relentless and prepared to give up some comforts then it does not make sense.  I am another man from Grande...and we all know what it is tuh survive...tuh fall dong and get up again after people treat yuh like bobolee...yuh cyar worry about dat yuh just have tuh make ends meet and win!

Two-goal Yorke gives Trinidad win over Iceland

(Updates with detail)

By Mike Collett

LONDON, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Dwight Yorke scored twice as Trinidad & Tobago began their countdown to the World Cup finals with a 2-0 win over Iceland in a friendly international at a freezing Loftus Road on Tuesday.

On a night when thousands of their countrymen began a traditional two-day carnival in the Caribbean heat, Trinidad's players tried to raise the temperature for their frozen fans in London and succeeded with a controlled all-round display.

In their first match since qualifying for their first World Cup in November, the Soca Warriors were quicker to the ball, faster on the break and more cohesive than Iceland whose first match under Eyjolfur Sverrisson saw a fifth straight defeat.

Yorke blasted his side ahead from eight metres after 10 minutes and the Trinidad skipper doubled the lead with an audacious chip from a 54th minute penalty after Stern John was pushed over in the box by Ivar Ingimarsson.

Iceland almost scored after 38 minutes when skipper Eidur Gudjohnsen was inches wide with a 20-metre free kick but Trinidad were always in control and gave scouts from World Cup opponents England, Sweden and Paraguay plenty to ponder.

BRITISH-BASED

Trinidad's Dutch coach Leo Beenhakker selected seven British-based players in his starting lineup, plus Yorke who was familiar with the Loftus Road ground from his days in the Premier League with Manchester United and Aston Villa.

It was Yorke who opened the scoring with a well-taken goal after only 10 minutes when Iceland's defence failed to clear a high, ranging cross from Colin Samuel who outpaced Heldi Danielsson down the left wing.

Indridi Sigurdsson played the inswinging ball straight to Yorke who controlled it with one touch before blasting it high and wide of goalkeeper Arni Arason with his next.

Iceland did create some chances of their own in an entertaining opening 45 minutes with left-winger Ivar Ingimarsson twice cutting in to fire two powerful efforts towards Shaka Hislop's goal.

Gudjohnsen went closest to a goal with his free kick and as ever was at the heart of almost every move Iceland put together.

But Trinidad were far too strong for Gudjohnsen to play on his own and some fine performances from Carlos Edwards, Samuel and Cyd Grey hinted that Trinidad may not be anyone's pushovers in the finals in Germany starting in June.

Yes!!! Great psychological advantage...We must do the same thing with England, Paraguay and Sweden...let the SocaWarriors be the "Mouse that Roared." :-*

General Discussion / If it's not PNM...Who we go put?
« on: February 22, 2006, 05:29:53 PM »
The way I see it, is simple...probably too simplistic in nature.  Forget the UNC and all the antics of four cent politics on the roadside of dreams and paranoia.  Yes, I agree, the PNM has shown some ineptitude but could you tell me what the UNC has done for the upliftment of the peoples of Trinidad and Tobago.  Forget Eric Williams and Frankie Khan have both shown their cards...no Aces.  Patrick Manning turned them over to the Integrity Commission...dat good! What more do the people want?  People are seeking a secure environment (too much crime and murder).  This happens in every developing nation but I guess T&T is too small for the level of crime and we are not accustomed to guntoting bandidos who plague the land.  The UNC does not stand a chance now with Ramesh making love tuh Panday...Dookeran geh leave out...bacchanal is dey ting...dey tek dat from the PNM.  Now, now, we must have nuff respect for the PNM, the Prime Minister and his boys...I believe with all mih heart dat PNM going right back in the house after the next election because Manning has the right campaign managers...Jack Warner, Basdeo Panday and Winston Dookeran.  Ah kinda sorry for Dooks...poor fella, he eh know wuh hit him yet.  So who we go put? Daaga? Kambon? Mottley? Rowley? Boynes? Who has clean hands? Trinidad and Tobago was blessed by the Father himself buh we have done a fine job at screwing up wuh God make good.  Leave the PNM right dey...yuh hear mih!  All who want tuh vex could vex but long gone ah the days of calling people sexist names like "Fat Arse Brigade" and the like.  The PNM is now more refined and less noisy.  Mr. manninng is right tuh tek away the grounds from dem noisy rugby players...who gives a damn about rugby anyway...certainly not a quiet PM like Manning.  The man want some quiet and peace tuh plan how tuh win the next election. I will admonish everybody in T&T tuh plant Balisier from now so dat we go have enough flowers for the next election...jump and wave the balisier.  I have prophesied and it will come to pass. :bringiton:
