Football / Re: Theobald recalled for Thursday's friendly
« on: July 19, 2008, 04:21:47 PM »

That does not mean they not talented or skillful. It means the coaches looking for something else.

No it doesn't kind sir.....it means that they are not talented or skillful enough....like Mr Theobald.

I was, in my estimation, better at academics than football, and made my choices accordingly so jealously does not factor in any of my personal equations.

And if you see the humour in my posts, I am both glad and appreciative.....most ppl who suffer from the inability to adequately comprehend find humour in things they dint understand.

Actually, you should have read the reports on the reasons for his failure to obtain contracts at all of these teams before you spoke about them. Apparently, they considered him both skillful and talented enough to be offered contracts however, he was not strong enough a personality to be a member of the teams. He was also unwilling to put in the hours that the coaches felt he should and had an exalted view of his abilities, knowledge of the game and position. In addition to this he saw the teams as mere stepping stones in his destined position. He was therefore a bad fit because of his personality not his footballing ability.

Again you all getting carried away while he might have a point the real question is which of the players he has said should be on the national team actually warrant being there. He compares Trent Noel and Keon Daniel, players who play totally different positions and have totally different skill sets. Noel maybe deserves another look in the national team but the problem is that he is competing against Whitley and Hyland and he is decidedly less skillful than both and he is a bit one dimensional for what is required.  Kalon Murray is good but may be a few games short of being ready for the International game as Smith showed and continues to show as he recovers from his poor outing on the national team. The fact is that only Guerera of the players' demands selection.

Football / Re: T&T games on TV
« on: June 24, 2008, 05:28:40 PM »
Why are the T&T tv stations so selfish. Don't they know that there is a passionate football audience in T&T. For those T&T football fans who are unable to go to the stadium the stations should at the most have the football matches taped-delay.

Here in Jamaica TVJ and TVJ Sports Network will be showing all the matches of the 2nd round qualifiers. All the 1st and 2nd legs of every matchup will be shown everyday leading into the first matches of the semi-final round. The Reggae Boyz games will obviously be shown live and all the semi-final games will be taped-delayed also. Depending on the time that other teams will be playing apart from the Reggae Boyz. That match will be shown live on either TVJ or TVJ Sports Network.

Yesterday I watched the El Salvador vs Panama 2nd leg qualifier on TVJ while TVJ Sports Network was showing the 1st leg. TVJ is now showing the first cricket ODI between the West Indies and Austrailia. And since TVJ Sports Network showed the Belize vs Mexico 1st leg this morning the same game will be repeated at 3 pm today. So it means that the Bahamas vs T&T 2nd leg WC qualifier will be shown tomorrow or sometime this week or weekend.

You see. Even with Jamaica's GDP lower than T&T's. The Jamaica tv media knows the value of what the Jamaican public likes. 8)

Or they don't have Jack vulture waiting to profit over it

The same reason nobody invests money in the World Cup Team. They fraid it get thief. Since nobody understands how rights are granted and even more than that some years ago someone bought the rights to be told that they didn't really buy the rights but could from who ever Jack designated for more then you would understand why nobody wants to buy World cup rights

6
They don't own the stadium. They own the naming rights to the club and ground.

go re-read the article, because they own the freehold and naming rights.

God is de BOSS....

Oh and freehold refers to the land and the rights that an owner can have.

Nice idea but revenue on the use of stadia are far too low in Trinidad to make it viable. I think its a great idea however but financially its a money pit

The Guardian was informed that, in recent years, the TTFF was called upon to pay a rental of $3,000 plus VAT or ten per cent of the gate receipts, whichever sum was greater, plus $2,000 and VAT for electricity.

that is madness if  I had known this I would have book the stadium for a fete match ! dat is only $178 for a two teams of 14 !

and they begged the Minister for relief for the qualifiers because the 3000 was too much to pay and they still broken.

Jack whey d money gone?!!!!

Football / Re: ‘Tiger’ Phillips concerned about Warriors defending
« on: April 30, 2008, 02:04:40 PM »
But Benjie, seeing as how we have ah problem with defending wouldn't have been better to keep these players around and mix them with the younger players so that they could learn ah thing or two, instead of just leaving them out in the cold.....

.....and I don't know about you but I somehow feel if the players had not stood up to de TTFF and not been blacklisted, they would have been in the mix from after the WC up to the current day and we would not be having this discussion today......

until the younger players show that they have what it takes to hold down de back...give me my older, more experienced players any day....

True but only Lawrence playing football! and we suffering from the fact that we never had a proper program in in place. Continuing with a player who will retire after the next tournament or before makes no sense and will be the same thing as Beenie did to us. Further these players are being influenced by some of our best players ever in the form of their coaches Brian Williams, Kerry Jamerson et al. Adding a Lawrence won't add much more. Oh and Gray was called up to the Digicel Cup team but declined due to contract negotiations so thats one less. You have to know when to let players go. I doh agree I believe that you develop players especially when you have no high level to speak of. If our best players are still closer to 40 we should just give up and stop playing football again.

whappen to sancho, lawrence, atiba charles, gray, them men could still play for we and at the back, i wouldnt be concerned bc sancho and lawrence are our best defenders and can still play

God is de BOSS...

isn't gray injurred and do sancho and Charles still play? I haven't heard of them since the world cup with any team! About Lawrence if I said that we should carry a 38 or 40 year old outfield player to the World Cup would you agree? You talking still about the blacklist none of the players will be under thirty-five which I think should be the limit unless they are exceptional. Second, of those younger than that Only Birchall and Glen haven't been called and Birchall cannot start for his club and Glen still trying to find his feet after his injuries. Of course since they have selected others in the same situation as Birchall, he should be called also but until an International Competitive match passes without him being called I would ignore that talk.

Somebody has to pay for the upkeep and if concerts and the like are not allowed where the continuous influx of money coming from because people only attend a few sporting events in large numbers quite sporadically.  They already paying a ridiculous 25% income tax so they eh really quick to pay for it direct with higher ticket prices.
Tax payers money will have to continue to upkeep these places....is a matter of how efficiently they are maintained and who is given responsibility for same.

I don't believe the facilities are underutilized...might be the opposite.

They are underutilized by paying customers!!!

Football / Re: T&T to face Bermuda in phase 1 of WCQ.
« on: March 31, 2008, 04:35:26 PM »
Top of the morning forumites. let me begin by saying, i'm pretty sure the majority of us are already aware that we will be going up against Bermuda in june for phase 1 of our WC journey to SA2010.

i was hoping it was cayman islands TBH since we seem to always struggle against Bermuda for some strange reason, that and we didn't get enough playing time together as a complete team  for over a year.

Bermuda's federation president Larry Mussenden seem to think that he could suprise us come june, i just hope he's wrong about his predictions and we have the fortitude to get pass underrated Bermuda to the semifinal round of qualifying.

i know a lot of yuhs would think that i'm being some what timid in my view, but i have good reason to be since jack warner & co. has been pussy footing since oct 06.

we've not played with our full strenght team since st Vincent and the Grenadines, and quite frankly that scares me.

we still don't have the stallwart defence we build for the last WC in germany, players the like of marvin andrews, brent sancho and dennis Lawrence, has been completely ignored by our federation, in exchange for the services of less experience untested players the likes of power , thomas and adams, not knocking any of our players , but we need these three defenders if we're to get into the final round of qualifying.

i think we're ok in the midfield department with fellas like Whitley,  Edwards, hyland, roberts, K. daniel, and up front we're pretty decent as well, with KJ , bravo, scotty, glenn, to choose from , but we need a proper defence to go up against our hungry opponents in concacaf.

just curious to know what allyuh think. all views would be highly appreciated. i just have ah strange feeling that we might be punished for our lack of preparation, please prove me wrong.                                             positive.

Ah could be wrong but two of those have yet to play a club match for the year

and Lawrence is close to forty

Something tells me that Simones 8-year plan is slowly coming to fruitation.  ;D

8 year plan? is not last year that Simmoes get hired? So that mean y'all gunning for 2015 ?
Simones 8-year plan actually began in 1994 when he pointed out that a proper club system was needed in Jamaica. This was done when the club system became a "job" for Jamaican footballers.
When Simones returned he said the stepping stone had began and he now saw some improvement in the Jamaican football club system and the local players.
For now Simones recent results speaks for itself. 3 friendlies: 2 wins and 1 draw.

Brazilian tour. 3 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss.

« on: May 29, 2007, 08:49:09 AM »
crowd turnout was REAL poor...
i figure the weather and the price mainly had something to do with it
charging $100 for the double header and $50 for the 2nd game alone with no big name teams or players( no offense to anyone...just mean they have no Soca Warriors from the WC and we weren't playing a qualifier or a top team like Italy etc.)

reach to hear mexico win on PK's like 8-7!..that not confirmed

not sure of the whole startin side since one or 2 i not sure of..
but Marvin Phillip started in goal..had a decent game in my opinion..didnt get much to do but he had to cut out some thru balls and made a good save int eh 1st half low to his right
almost fell asleep on a ball over the top but he got there and punched it out and keyeno thomas saved him ont he line for the follow up...

centre backs looked like Noriega from J. Public and Keyeno Thomas (how long he in football now jed?? someone give me a age check!)
wing backs i not sure of at alll...think the left back (#15)---he REAALLLL lucky he didnt get sent off a couple times...for some tackles he could have easily gotten yellows for and then a nasty lookin tackle where he hit the haitian player below the knee....looked bad!...not sure if it was Nicholson thomas or if it was Pacheco...
he was iffy...
and the right back too..he was...well let's jus say the wing backs coulda been better..dont know who he was wore teh #6 ..same thing...either nicholson thomas or pacheco here.

midfield was Theobald(kinda questionin if he is the answer to the holding midfield position??)...isnt there other option in the PFL at that position...dont think baptiste would be as effective there
anyways
keon daniel also in the centre...he was sub par..disappeared a lot
rigth side was spann...was ok...sometimes too timid...wonder if the injury is still bothering him or making him play less aggressive
and left side was christian baptsite from defence force i believe...he was ok..but nothin extraordinary i find
up front glasgow and darryl roberts
darryl looked good in the first half in my opinion..his touches real on as usual..not no forward with real pace but he real smart and know the game....man was rockin the #14 too yes.....take stern no. one time!
glasgow was ok int he first half...didnt get as much service as he should have...was runnin a lot...
but 2nd half he was shi***** on himself for a time until i think he see the subs warming up and then he try to fight up a lil...

K. Baptiste came on for Spann...he look decent...buss a jokey ass dive as he come on too
toussaint came on for glasgow and the 7 foot looking mcfarlane came on for darrly who was quiet int eh 2nd half
toussaint looked real good..the subs made a impace in a game that was gettin boring fast! somebody bawl out in the stands "is nto a fete match!"...was movin real slow at that point

toussaint tease dem fellas on top the box and shoulda had a assist but mcfarlane dragged his left footer wide inside the box!!
was a good goal int he end toussaint scored....heard his moms is haitian...eh know if that true..kinda ironic...

hopefully toussaint starts with darryl on wed.
this is the kinda tournament we should be tryin some diff players...we done in a bad position with the WC players being out for the Gold Cup
toussaint and kerry baptiste should start...bench spann and glasgow
christian baptiste deserve another look...but he hadda work harder

glasgow was gettint he crowd vex too..a man must have clipped his ankle while he was runnin across the midfield with the ball and he stopped and left it!! luckily theobald i think, was right there to take it...he did that a couple more times....the crowd wasnt likin it at all
hopefully the turn out is better in Wednesday....and if they smart they should chagre a $30...sit anywhere...i bet they get 5 times the crowd

The left back was Pacheco and the centre mid was Romauld Aguillera not Daniel

Football / Re: "Densill Theobald is Premiership Material"
« on: January 17, 2007, 04:56:32 PM »
I think that part of the problem with Theobald is that persons find it hard to categorise him. He ain't an attacking mid, defensive mid or a winger. He is for the want of a better phrase a water carrier. Similar players (in style not ability) would be Gilberto and Carrick. That being so he isnt going to put in hard tackles or create a goal out of nothing and if you expect him to you have a long wait. I think part of the issue with him like Jemmott is that they would look better in a 3 man midfield with somebody to do the spade work. Theobald can do the running and Jemmott (he would like not having to run much) the passing.

He is a decent positional player and tries to stick to the coaches plan, something most of our players have problems doing. The fact is many coaches will like him for that. In terms of whether he is or isn't Premiership Material has a lot to do with his reaction to training. As all who have made it have said the first few years before acceptance they push you to see whether you are strong enough mentally to make it. If you are then you move to the next level. To date he hasn't shown it. Many players have gotten worse treatment than he has, risen above it and now are considered top professionals.

Football / Re: Jemmott wants to prove his pick in Digicel Cup.
« on: January 09, 2007, 06:52:02 PM »
Ten years or so ago Hardest was potentially better than Latas simply because for all Latas skill (I AM A FANATICAL SUPPORTER OF HIM) he didn't have the brilliant free kick and pass Jemmott had from any distance. Howver now there is no doubt that he will never achieve as much as Latas or exhibit anything but flashes of the skill Latas has trilled us with consistently. At age 28 he ought to be at his peak yet he was released recently from one team is now starting with another and is getting his umptieth chance to make a stick as an international footballer. You cannot rate potential against achievement the 1-10 rating is a non starter because he has done nothing with his career since the first tournament he played in for T&T.  I hope he will dominate and be brilliant for us and go on to be a World Cup star but I fear very much that it is close to being too late but like most Trini's I hope that I can say "what a wonderful thing that I was totally wrong!!

Football / Re: Think this guy would ever play on a TNT team...
« on: December 03, 2006, 10:11:14 AM »
In the players defence from the account he attempted to play the position. He did not say that he couldn't he actually tried but felt uncomfortable doing it. That for me is to his benefit. Of course he could have stated it in a better manner but it is his right as a player to show himself in what he considers his best position. If he was struggling he had to feel frustrated and felt that he was doing a disadvantage both to himself and the team.
I remember reading an article about Andrew Johnson playing for England. Even though he was the highest scoring English man the coaches  for England persist in playing himas a right forward and as a result he has never reproduced his form. Is it right? Should he continue to let himself be sidelined because a coach thinks he can play there rather than his best position?

Football / Re: What cost for World Cup glory?
« on: August 13, 2006, 01:03:08 PM »
I have to query the rating of England as being even one of the top ten teams in the World. The fact is that to win a World Cup you need a number of things in your favour You need a Solid or spectacular goal keeper, a solid defence, a top ball winner, a creative midfielder, a free kick threat and  a consistent goal scorer. All these players need to show this at Internationa l as well as club level. England have an average Keeper who may in time be solid. The defence was good but in this World cup made too many errors to be considered solid muchless brilliant. They had no top ball winner, Heargreaves did a decent job for them but his role with Bayern has always been as a continuation player and cannot be considered a top ball winner. They have no creative midfielders or set up men. They have a freekick threat but no consistent goal scorer since Owen is a shadow of himself an no one has stepped up to establish them self instead of him.

In other words he did well with a team of brilliant players but the fact is they could not have been an effective team because of the aforementioned reasons.

27
Strength and good wishes to all whose journey as warriors has come to an end and to those staying on more power for the journey yet to come. We value all you have done and hope that next world cup you can go one better!
