Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Barbados Game (06-Sept-11)
« on: September 06, 2011, 06:02:04 PM »
Two serious game in, it looks like the coach in putting a focus on building from the back - forward, and with a secondary goal of creating cohesiveness as the players play more with each other which is the right approach given that we haven't been very focused on fixing the defensive problems for many years. The forwards are concerning to me as I am not sure if Jones is an out and out finisher - with his height and jumping ability he has shown that he can beat most players on air balls, but on the ground I am still waiting to see the true striker ability. He brings his teammates into the game with passes, etc. but to progress against the likes of Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala and the US, we need another striker to step up during the early campaign and build a partnership with Jones.

Doh get me wrong, mid field is concerning, but with Edwards due (i hope) to be back at his right wing position at some point, and with Birchall and Daniel I think the outlook is a lot better than our ability to put away goal scoring chances that will be presented throughout the qualifying campaign.

Yuh definitely wouldn't see it in two games. BTW jones is also great with his feet, he showed it @ southhampton, sunderland and is doing it @ stoke, plus he's scored with his feet against the best keeprs in the prem, reiner, gomez, and jaskerlinen.

allyuh need tuh be ah bit more realistic, we're no brazil and our talent is marginal, so lets not get besides ourselves. :yawning:

All I saying here breds is that we can't fool ourselves and think that Jones is the next Dwight Yorke. He is a marquee player for us and for good reason, but you have finishers/strikers and you have good forwards, Jones is a forward but not necessarily a world class striker like Yorke was for a period of his career. So when you don't have a clear goal scorer you need your two forwards to jointly pickup the goal scoring slack

Cricket Anyone / Re: So u all think Jerome taylor is rubbish now?
« on: June 15, 2007, 09:15:02 PM »
Taylor is one to watch for the future - he gots to develop his outswing and more physical strength to keep his pace up around the 86-89 mile range throughtout a test match series... I think by him playing county cricket it would benefit him a lot and in 2-3 years we would see a world class bowler.

Collymore was averaging in the low 80's (mph) against pakistan when they last toured the WI, and that was the best series I have ever seen him bowl... his ave. pace has dropped drastically since then and at his height (around 5'10) he would see less and less returns for his line n length seam bowling at 75MPH; also at that pace, his days are numbered if WI choose another head coach soon (if Moore stays then Collymore stays in the team).

Edwards can shake ppl up period.

Lawson is probably the best genuine wicket-taker in the WI since the Ambrose n Walsh era.

Bravo - should be told to concentrate on his batting, and limit his bowling to around 25 overs per test match.

Sammy - Could be the new steady bowling work horse for WI... can hold up one end while the pacers have a go at the other end.

Collins - His improved his consistency in bowling wicket-taking deliveries and probably has a 3 yr window left to play at the test level (I think he is now 29 or 30 yrs old).

Dave has never been given an extended run in the team to prove himself... although he has almost always delivered with the bat in the lower order, which can benefit this team greatly seeing that our middle order is very shaky (with Lara gone and Samuels seemingly being out of favor with the coaches).

While Edwards does get the ball in the 90s he is not consistent enough to make any team that I had some selection input. On top of that he won't save runs or take tough catches as Plunkett can when he's not bowling well. Despite his fielding woes Panesar is a proven wicket taker. Sammy took 7 wickets and does he bowl any faster than 80 mph or thereabouts? Line and length with a bit of movement in either direction is still the best way for a seamer with no great pace to take wickets.

dwolfman - I agree mostly with your thinking here, except for the edwards part... true he isn't as consistent as we would like with his line n length, but he did shake up the batsmen and had them in 2 minds which allowed the bowlers from the other end to clean them up... plus once he got some overs under his belt he did improve with his acuracy... Edwars is good as an intimidation factor which allows line n length bowlers or a good spinner to capitalize from the other end when bowling in tandem with Edwards... I would like to see both Lawson and Edwards in tandem with a new ball... that would really re-energise this team and allow line n lenght guys like sammy n bravo to capitalize on 'wary' minds.

Cricket Anyone / WI Test Team of the future
« on: June 12, 2007, 04:49:30 PM »
They should try this team...

1)L. Simmons or Chattergoon (to open)
2)Devon Smith
3)Sarwan (C)
4)Chanderpaul
5)Gayle or Ganga
6)Bravo or Morton or R.Hinds (at 6)
7)Ramdin (VC)
8)Sammy/ Kelly
9)Dave
10)Edwards/ A. Richardson
11)Lawson/ Collins

I drop Collymore, Powell & S. Joseph as I do not think that they can consistently perform at test level... Taylor has the skill, but he needs to refine it first and I cannot comment on Rampaul as I haven't seen him bowl.

If I leave out any talented prospects please let me know... laterz

I like d team u pick fishs, but they aint go drop Collymore... I deally I would like to see Rampaul given a shot, maybe in the place of Taylor (who I think would be a very good bowler in a couple of years if he plays english county cricket).

Gayle has to perform or be pushed lower down the order as the man hasn't scored a century as a WI test opener in over 3 yrs.

8
Bravo and Collymore bowling at d same pace, and look at the stats... Bravo more economical than Corey and they both have a wicket... difference is that Bravo can bat... so i doh see how Corey can keep his place if at the end of the day Bravo can do the 'same' job as far as taking wickets and keeping things relatively tight is concerned. I would prefer to see edwards or rampaul in place of collymore... better yet Lawson... our bowling needs a serious refresh and I would select the following bowlers for future test series... Lawson, Collins, Taylor and Dave with Bravo bowling his medium pacers... with fellas like Andrew Richardson and Edwards in the wings. I would also like to see a place for Ryan Hinds in a test squad as he can bowl decent spin, bat and add leadership qualities... hope we can see both Rampaul and Sammy for atleast one ah these tests.

9
1) Gayle
2) Ganga
3) Devon Smith
4) Chanderpaul
5) Sarwan (C)
6) Bravo
7) Ramdin
8) Dave M
9) D.Powell
10) Taylor
11) Lawson
12) Collymore
13) L. Simmons
14) M. Samuels
15) R.Hinds or Collins

Coach: I would like it to be Tom Moody or D. Whatmore... we also need a fielding coach, bowling coach and s&c coordinator... I would like to see Kelly play a role in either the odi team or test team during Eng tour.

If Trinidad beat Paraguay by 2 goals clear, and England beat Sweden by 1 goal clear, then both TnT and Sweden would be with 4 points, both have an 'E' (Even) goal difference and their head-to-head game is a draw... so who qualifies for the 2nd round with England????

Cricket Anyone / Re: Dey Drop Mohummed Entirely off de team!
« on: June 17, 2006, 04:16:54 PM »
Yea i am very surprised by this move... unless dave have some serious off-field disciplinary problems i aint see how dey could justify dropping him, given that he has proven that he can take wickets and also bat at the test level... complemented by the sad way which our quickies bowled against india last time... i am very disappointed with this non-selection of dave and i would like an explination as to why this has happened... the public should raise arms and demand an explination for leaving out the best spinner in the WI and also for leaving out the 'best allrounder' in Kelly.

Cricket Anyone / Re: No Mohummed and India murdering us!
« on: June 13, 2006, 09:32:42 AM »
D selectors doh pick the startin 11, so i won't blame them for dave's exclusion. Buh this is a learning point for WI... they have to have a genuine spinner in every test squad... the top 5 teams in the world have their set spinner in the final 11 no matter what d pitch look like before d match... i think WI now understand this... cuz we doh have the quality fast bowlers to suceed with a 4 prong pace attack on a consistent basis.

Cricket Anyone / Re: 2ND test W.I VS INDIA IN ST LUCIA
« on: June 12, 2006, 08:53:41 AM »
Taylor and bradshaw are not test bowlers... Taylor is getting there but should stick to odi's until he becomes more consistent as a wicket taker... bradshaw doh have d penetration required at this level... Collymore was off-color last innings, let hope he gets it right next time india bat... but basically Dave should be a staple for the WI test sqad from now on as he brings a genuine wicket-taker at the spinners position and can easily score 30 runs consistently. Collins has shown that he can take wickets on flat wickets so he should have his place solidified as well... and the attack looks poor without Edwards there, so Edwards once healthy should be in there... the problem is that 3rd seamer (excluding Bravo as he in d for all-round ability) as Collymore most times does the job but we really require another top fast bowler to help if any injuries occur... not sure who filling dat void as I would drop taylor and brashaw for a while.

Serious mis-read of the pitch by lara and coaching staff to go in wit 5 seamers and no dave... good return for collins, jus a pity dat d other couldn't find wickets... if collins and dave and edwards on d team we bowlin go be ok i feel...

Any video stream available for the Germany vs Costa Rica game?

Against Sweden I think the best form of defense is to play our natural attacking futbol... Sweden likes to dictate the tempo, so if we dictate the game tempo they would not be nearly as effective... Their stikers good enough to have flashes of brilliance against the run of play, so u just goto mark them strong strong and take care of business on your end...

Against England a counterattacking approach may be best, as if u try to attack and get catch, england go kill u especially with rooney and owen in space.

COLLINS REPLACES INJURED EDWARDS FOR SECOND DIGICEL TEST
by WICB

Click here for fixtures and Itinerary

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua - The West Indies selectors met during the final day of the first Digicel Test match in Antigua and selected a squad for the second Test match against India starting on Saturday June 10th in St Lucia.

There is only one change to the 13 man squad. Left arm seamer Pedro Collins replaces his injured brother Fidel Edwards.

Edwards suffered a strain to his right hamstring during the first Test match and was ruled out of contention for the second game. He will return to his native Barbados while Collins will join the squad in St. Lucia tomorrow, June 7th.

Collins has played 29 Tests, his last being against South Africa in April 2005. The 29-year-old has 96 Test wickets with a best of 6 for 53 against Bangladesh in 2004.

The West Indies selection panel consists of convenor Michael 'Joey' Carew, Head Coach Bennett King, Gordon Greenidge and Clyde Butts.

SQUAD:

Brian Lara (captain), Christopher Gayle, Daren Ganga, Ramnaresh Sarwan (vice captain), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Runako Morton, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (wicketkeeper), Ian Bradshaw, Jerome Taylor, Corey Collymore, Pedro Collins, Dave Mohammed

Team Operations Unit

Tony Howard - Manager
Bennett King - Head Coach
David Moore - Assistant Coach/Analyst
Stephen Partridge - Physiotherapist
Bryce Cavanagh - Strength & Conditioning Coordinator
Imran Khan - Media Officer

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally i still have to ask where is Kelly... are the selectors mad with him for some reason, is he on somebody's bad book... i spoke to a colleague of mine who played cricket wit me at Hillview in the middle 90's and he knows Kelly well from their recent playing days at Hillview, and he said that Kelly real disappointed at not having been called up for NZ tour in Febuary, and Emrit confused too cuz he put up #s in the regional tornament buh not even on anybody's selection radar for WI selection... anyhow I think the selectors should call Kelly and atleast tell him why dey not picking him yet, instead of keeping the yute in perpetual dissapointment.

Dravid shoulda start both spinners bowling together long time, anyhow it better for windies that he wait so late to do it... windies hadda score about 7 per over if dey wanna win... with bout 30 overs remaining, so we might as well guess dat it coming to a draw.

He should jus record d TnT vs Sweden game and watch it when he have time... he aint so ridiculous as to base his decision to bat or bowl solely on the TnT vs Sweden game (if he wins the toss).
