Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Panama Game (19-Jul-2015)
« on: July 20, 2015, 08:36:26 AM »
We went into d game like if we were playin d "big 3" in concacaf...when playin Mexico....d US or CR who are all better teams than us yes we have to play a defensive type game cus dey dat good but not against panama! Panama don't warrant dat typa respect....dey won today cuz we facilitated their play with our neglect to play dem open.

With all due respect, had you played an open game vs Panama as you did vs Mexico its likely that you would have conceded heavily(just like you did vs Mexico). In a quarterfinal game, the preferred approach is to be compact in midfield/defense and see how your opponents react.  The Mexico game somewhat was a special case, Mexico obviously threw everything at you in a game that had very little consequence to both teams, as both of you were already thru to the next round.  They got two goals early and continued hunting for more, leaving their defense exposed for your strikers room to gun them down.  Those tactics are OK for a game that has no great consequence on proceedings, but no coach worth his salt will employ such tactics in a quarterfinal or semifinal game against respectable opponents. Hart took the right approach vs Panama... notice also Mexico employed totally different tactics in the late game last night.

Cuba has been poor all tournament, conceding 14 goals in 3 games... and though Guatemala conceded far less, apparently they are not too far ahead of Cuba given that Cuba beat them.

But to say Panama is a poor team is wide of the mark, in CONCACAF, they are a pretty decent team, and has had great success at the last three gold cups.  I have a strong feeling Jamaica will be facing them for the third place game. On Saturday.

Lol. Reggaefan might be the most unbiased perspective on this forum this time. That Mexico game was madness.
We showed we could score. That was great. Finishing and deliveries have been an Achilles heel in the past.

This game showed that we have a lot of work to do. If we cannot possess the ball against good opposition to relieve pressure then we are in real trouble. This game showed that if a team presses us high we turn over the ball. To avoid that we play the long ball. Our long balls are not clinical. Other keepers and defenders kick long balls that generally go to the desired player. Some of our long balls were nowhere near any of our players.

Fitness is always an issue. If we don't have the ball and chasing the game then lack of fitness will be further highlighted.

Kenwyne showed up big in this tournament. Lord forbid he gets injured for WC qualfiers. What then?

I was disappointed with the lack of attempts to possess the ball. Long ball clearances, goal kicks etc. That is the losing TnT of old. They looked tired and we did not win one long goal kick. Very few long balls from the right and left back were won. This approach had us chasing the game. We strung together some passes in previous game.

They stuck to it today  but the game plan and execution was not the best.

Any back pass to the keeper was an automatic turnover.  We need to do some work in the keeping department.

To those who preferred facing Panama, how allyuh feeling now?

Good. We win the group. Play to win. That draw against Mexico is a good morale boost. Especially the way we fought and  kept on coming back. We need to have the confidence that we can play whoever.

Is like we have no midfield.

Free kick ... long ball give away. Goal kick ... long ball give away.

We keep losing the ball on goal kicks and throw-ins! Most annoying which is why we don't have much possession.

Whole tournament.

We need our keepers to worn on their distribution. Every time keeper gets the ball in open play  is a giveaway. Even the dead ball kick terrible.

Why are we forcing that long ball?

This team has flashes but too many mental lapses.

Bakr not looking good today.

Coach Hart's tactics were spot on. Absorb pressure in the first half and press dem in the second half.
Face it, we don't have the conditioning to press for 90mins. (3 games in 6 days).
The Mexicans had no chance to make any 2nd half adjustments in the locker room.  :beermug: :beermug: :beermug:

What are your thoughts on the moments when we seemed to fluctuate in absorbing pressure (almost needlessly?) Even with the own goal he had absolutely no business reaching for that ball with his body positioned like that), I still feel we conceded another goal unnecessarily because we were not seizing the advantage.

poster above was makin d point dat we doh have d conditionin to press for 90min but we always seemed to find it when we went behind so I don't agree with him

Risky strategy by Hart but it worked and to be honest we can press for the entire game... But why would we, it doesn't make sense... Mexico wasn't expecting the onslaught in the 2nd half...

Yuh doh soak up pressure. Get a goal kick and kick it up the field and give them back the ball. When we played the ball on the turf we look decent except for that Kenwyne give away. Pressure does buss pipe. We need to attempt to possess the ball to help the defense especially if conditioning is an issue.  Mexico was not pressing us high. We could have done more with the ball. In a knock out game they would have been pressing higher. We should have recognized that and kept the ball on the turf more.

Kenwyne earn that captaincy today.

That ball of the post with the two defenders. He cover a lot of ground.

Cummings played well also.

We actually had some decent corners delivered.

If we could stop clearing the ball to the top of the 18th and press players earlier we good to go.

These men went from playing a lil possession football to that hit and hope target man nonsense. We giving away the ball and let Mex put pressure on us. Pressure does buss pipe.

I prefer negative possession than that long ball nonsense. If they doh have the ball they can't score. We need to take time and string some passess.

HU must be the laughing stock of the division.  64 spectators per home game! Wow those are some terrible vibes.
I'm glad it was much better when I was there.
As for the win/loss record they can't do much worse, hopefully the program heads can turn things around.

Lol. Why yuh lying? I was there when u was there and ah there again. That team never win probably  more than 3-4 games any season and the support was never good.

So people saying Beenie can't do anything right now for our football. Anybody remember Cyd Gray pre Beenie? Beenie could make a difference with our defenders. Beenie had a short window for 2006 qualification and made a big difference in a few games. He then coached us to a draw with Sweden and almost holding on versus England. Everyone thought our stock was on the up.

Given a longer tenure the man might be able to blood some youth, raise our ranking and actually  make us a team worth playing. That has major implications for future players trying to move abroad.

I respect the current coaches but at the same time I don't see them carrying us anywhere. Shabbaz* is a club coach who has done what exactly with his club? I really don't know Charles credentials.

Future looks dim. That knock look real purge. Man still bubbling the ball on they first touch.  :frustrated:

You play how you practice. :banginghead: Coach need to be hitting men some bullet pass to control. Have more defenders than attackers. Increase urgency.

This is interesting. Can't these players play for us at the Olympics and then switch to the US? On one hand it is always good to have players competing for spots. The Trini based players who lose their spot to these two should be motivated to up their game so this doesn't happen to them again. If we also make it the Olympics and perform a few scouts might look in our direction. On the other hand losing the opportunity to expose players who we know for sure are on the path to our national team is something to consider. Just making the Olympic team is good credentials for a young player. If we used to have tours where the men who miss out would still get exposed it might not have been bad but when men exposure only comes in competitive games then the problem is amplified.

Men hailing Shabbazz as a big coach. Same thing with Fenwick. These men ain't win nothing of significance. Yeah Shabbazz was coaching the side who ultimately knock us out but we fail to see the writing on the wall. We get licks from Bermuda and doh forget Grenada. Men want to blame Otto. If we as good as men feel ("U23 team shoulda be core") the coach should have had to do nothing but say " Ok lads get us to the next round and then  we will start preparing for the big boys."

Our footballers have natural ability but there have been studies showing that pep with natural abilities are often surpassed by people who just want it more. Read a book called "Tipping point." In this book a study identified a bunch of young kids in the US with really high IQs. When the study picked back up later on men with genius IQs is janitors and all kinda mess. Why? Because potential with out action is meaningless. Men coast and didn't develop other skills and eventually they get passed over.

Man call out Birchall on this site. If all our footballers had Birchall work ethic we would be a shoe in for one of Concacaf 3 guaranteed spots. Watch Keon performance while he was playing for the Union, compared to how he was playing while he was in Trinidad. why is it that when players leave home they get a lot better in little time? Yeah competition is the cause. The effect however is they start working harder. Maybe we need to instill that competition home in PFL. Bring a bunch of young foreigners who want it and let the locals see what hunger looks like.

Sancho excited by Pro League talent
T&T Guardian

... Education is essential as scholarship to US colleges is an ideal route, one that players like myself and Kelvin Jack benefited from.”

Everything else said is a rehash of the general consensus of the board. The US scholarship thing however deviates from consensus. Is the US college system more competitive and professional than the TT Pro League?

Football / Re: Where does Otto Pfister go from here?
« on: November 12, 2011, 09:35:17 AM »
Men here just as SHORTSIGHTED as the federation. This knee jerk reaction is the reason we in a continuous cycle of failure. When we figure out what is the long term plan, then and only then should we assess whether Pfister fits it.

Otto fix one part of the game ... ball posession. Men was trapping on the run and laying off. It kinda hard to work on offensive play when you have to work on technical defeciencies. Watch the training videos. Pfister was working on football basics. The few shooting drills I saw from Fuentes videos men was missing wide and over in the HIGHLIGHTS.

Otto is not solely to blame. Fire Otto and then what? Same cycle right b4 the next set of qualifiers? Ah disappointed but honestly I told dtool this even before the loss to Bermuda  ... same pile diff day. We need a TD to lay out a plan and work with the national team coaches at all levels to start working toward reasonable achievable goals.  Well first we need a TD ....

Shabbaz tell we game plan early. Man say he like Mourinho. He also say he does watch Wenger but we knew he did not have the personnel for that brand. We needed a result he catch us sleeping early and then park the bus. Game, set, match.

Guayana actually looked nippy in their attack when they came forward. Sorry to say the brand I see us playing there in the attacking third wasn't really going nowhere. Poor corners. Poor freekicks. Poor throws by Edwards. Triangle in midfield, clueless in the attacking third. Pfister get us controlling the ball better and trapping and laying off. Other than that .... what else can be said and this wasn't no quality side. Who knew how that knock would have played off under pressure.

U-23 team for next match. Good luck Guyana. Their brand ain't look bad. They at least look like they did some drills in the offensive third. Pfister got our ball possession and trapping better but the attacking creativity and set pieces left a lot to be desired. Who knows Guyana might be able to shock some other teams.

Ah glad man like jason23, and touches see where i was coming from with this overconfident BS.

I wasn't being over confident......i was just stating fact.....if trinidad lost!! its by there own fault!! but like i said if we don't Qualify.....it will be a blessing in disguise!! ..............i wont pay to much mind to it......cause if we have 2 ketch we tail 2  beat guyana wen we suppose 2..beat then!!...like is nothing.......!! then something is seriously wrong!.....and i rather that! than we prolong...our..stupid mindset of every world cup qualifier we ketch our ass!! 2 even make it somewhere!!!!.

It would be a blessing in disguise that the young players who forming the core of the next WC team get knock out early rather than move on and get some more games under their belt?  What about the fact that these same young players who need the experience also need for us to raise our rankings so that they can actually pick up a contract? How many of them trial and can't go to Europe cause our ranking low?

It would be a blessing in disguise if ur internet connection drop for the rest of the night.

Football / Re: Who will take over if Jack Warner leaves T&T Football?
« on: June 08, 2011, 03:57:43 PM »
The whole premise of this thread is where it went wrong. Why is there this feeling out there that T&T football need a godfather or sugardaddy to run? Why can't we get business men who understand running sports as a business getting involved? There are Dwight Yorke, Stern John and a National team card from an Italian company called Panini. I would have loved to have a set of all the team members but nobody including the  TTFF thought of this as a viable money making option. Imagine how much "Official" limited edition commemorative items could have sold for post 06 (Silver coins, stamps, duplocated autographed team pics etc.).  We are the smallest nation to make a world cup. Companies and people love the underdog story. Trust me if an American PR company had gotten our story we and all would have been surprised at what we achieved. There could have been a movie (the prodigal son returns, Me mum, Maximus big tune,  coach comes in with impossible odds, Stern from Half slab to performance, defenders qualifying goal, Kelvin disallowed moment, loosing in the pre WC build up, ticket or leave it, oldest team, doubt then draw, euphoria on streets, unfair play, speculations on hero coach being out coached, slim chance of going through, Latas cameo, ticket scandal, black list, men sellout, unopened books, players day in court, (Sepp finally do it to jack) .... i.e. Trini version of Cool Runnings, Hurricane Season ). Book on the coaching change with Beenie at helm , TTFF decisions, player narratives etc. Documentaries on Soca and football. This was free press and we did not capitalize.

If we had a consistent team I am sure an annual home and away series with Jamaica would be profitable. Imagine official tees for the games at a price where every supporter would buy. One winning ticket holder gets team autograph after the game only if they have this year's tee. Annual North American and European game. Raffle ( independent of actual game ticket) opp to be in box with Jack and them and get in locker room after.

Ways to make money are out there. We as Trinbagonians need to realize that there are opportunities for pep outside of TTFF to present ideas that can make both all parties money.
