Cordner to host junior football tournament in Tobago
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday)

Trinidad and Tobago women's footballer Kennya Cordner will host the Monstamentality Kids 7v7 Football tournament at the Speyside Recreation Field in Tobago from 9 am, on July 16.

The deadline to register for the tournament is July 14. Registration is free and the link is https://bit.ly/3OHzgkC

Interested teams can also call 278-7102 or email monstamentality@gmail.com.

Boys will participate in the Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 age groups and girls will compete in the Under-17 age group.

Trophies, medals and special awards will be up for grabs.

On Facebook, Cordner said, “As a kid I always had a dream and I turned my dream into reality, and it all started for me at the age of six right here at the Speyside Recreational Grounds, so now it’s my time to give back to the community of Speyside so the youths can also have the same opportunity I have or even better! So it gives me great pleasure in hosting this youth tournament come July 16th! Monstas out.”

Cordner is one of TT’s most successful footballers and was in great form in her debut season for Fenerbahce in the Turkish Women’s League. She ended the season top of the charts with 34 goals as Fenerbahce reached the playoff semis.

One of the sponsors of the tournament is the Tobago House of Assembly.

Just a couple days ago, on national radio, in what was essentially a waste of a minute-long commentary, Andre Errol Baptiste called Ya Ya "unpatriotic". He mentioned it being a sad day for her family. Clearly the assessment deserved a more nuanced pronouncement ... perhaps even silence.
Clearly, Andre Errol Baptiste has a one sided view of of the Ya Ya situation.

Mexico fire their entire staff, what is T&T doing?  ???

What's the next competitive outing for the WNT?

Mexico fire their entire staff.  We can do the same thing. And we can also fire the entire normalization committee first. Just saying
Yes indeed we can fire the entire normalization committee, but then we will be like the cheese, standing alone. No FIFA affiliation, no FIFA subventions, no participation in international competitions under the auspices of FIFA, etc, etc. We will have to revert to the North vs South classic, Jabloteh vs W Connection, Trinidad vs Tobago, perhaps a practice match vs Grenada. Just saying!

Okay, so who do you think hire the coach. The TTFA under the auspices of the NC. THe TTFA cannot do anything until they get the go ahead of the NC. THE NC is running our football. When will the NC allow for the next election ?
Of course the NC is running our football presently. It is my understanding that the NC will allow for the next election when FIFA's objective of regularizing the affairs (financial & otherwise) of the TTFA is achieved. That could be a long time in coming, so grab your popcorn.

Pls. KJ is not a coach. He still needs to learn more about coaching. I look at the women's games, which are not good—a demonstration of abysmal coaching.

“Unfortunately in this game, you make your own luck. The fact is we just weren’t good enough today,” Jones said.

He asked some of his players to show more commitment. “I am disappointed because I think we are better than that. I know we are better than that and it is becoming repetitive that we are having these lapses and lack of desire between some players sometimes and we have to figure out really and truthfully what the game means to them, what they want to achieve out of it because it seems as if that quite a few of them are just here.

KJ kind of contradicting himself here. "The fact is we just weren’t good enough today,” is a factor that shows they needed more time.  And the latter part where he questions some of the players desire is a bit harsh. If they lacked desire in the first place, they probably would not have made the team. They have the desire but they just lack the skills, level of stamina and fitness. That is a fact.
"They have the desire but they just lack the skills, level of stamina and fitness. That is a fact"............ BINGO!

Looking at the game the 4 nil score line was flattering for Costa Rica 3  of the goals was off deflections the referee was poor and to be down by 10 players they held on pretty well Panama is beatable but without  a #10 I don't see how they will do it unless they planning on set plays or some type of scramble football to over power Panama in the box.
You must be commended for your eternal optimism.

So...where to start....so not wanting to sound overly critical...this team was underprepared. The team has talent but a decent coach would have focused and emphasized on the small things and making sure that they are done consistently well... mind you, the intent is not to make this team into a world cup winning team, light years away from that, but into a decent team that can compete well on the international level.

Like most TT teams,.this team was underprepared.
Deeks, apart from being under prepared, the team is lacking in adequately skilled players.

Did TT changed their goalkeeper for the Suriname game?
Yes. Tristan Edwards replaced regular number one, Jahiem Wickham, who missed this fixture due to a slight injury.

We are one of the youngest teams guys ...  so its understandable  we boys dem younger than  most of them NO EXCUSES
Eve said the most noteworthy thing about the Junior Soca Warriors squad was the ages of his players.

“I thought the guys did really well,” Eve told the TTFA Media. “It is pointed to note that we have the youngest team in here. A lot of the guys are 17 now turning 18 and a lot of the [Haiti] guys are just more mature than them.

“And you saw the immaturity of our guys at some times, in the type of plays they would have made. But all in all I am very proud of them…”

Eve’s suggestion that his players were younger than their opponents last night and one of the youngest teams in the tournament was unprompted, and totally incorrect. In fact, it was the exact opposite of the truth.

Trinidad and Tobago have the joint sixth oldest team in the Concacaf tournament along with the United States while, according to the Transfermarkt website, Eve’s starting team yesterday was the fifth oldest used by any nation so far in the competition.

Haiti, who had seven 17-year-olds in their XI, had the youngest starting team of the tournament at an average age of 17.5. Eve in contrast had two 17-year-olds in his first choice squad, which averaged 18.2—and both of Trinidad and Tobagos substitutes, Real Gill and Andrew De Gannes, are 19.

Haiti’s scorers yesterday, Watz Leazard, Steevenson Jeudy and Bryan Destin, were 18, 17 and 16 respectively. Trinidad and Tobago got their goals from the 19-year-old pair of Kaihim Thomas and Real Gill and the 18-year-old Nathaniel James.

Saundra baron is a trini / American goalkeeper  , who last I recall was playing pro in the Israeli premier league  in 2019 .......not sure if she is still there , but should be a useful addition for the national women's team , I'm not dogging Kimika forbes but she  needs to clean up / correct some of the elementary slip ups  more recently !  I don't know if the occasion of playing  infront  of her home crowd / Tobago got to her , however she needs to buck up at this level .....nothing personal Kimika .  wishing the best .. Another name I haven't seen nor heard of in the mix is Kayla Taylor  , is
she still playing ball?

 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wha geologic time scale yuh using as a benchmark? Yuh say that as if de Pleistocene epoch or "Ice Age' was YESTERDAY. But in truth, she should see another big context match when "hell freezes over".

But to your comment, more recently was this:

Not to trigger any traumas ... but that looked strikingly like an Ecuador moment. ::)

And maybe Anbrat finally has a clear answer to the question he posed some posts after that ... because these events are episodic.
I hear you! Unfortunately I did not see the match. *sigh*

Not sure what's gone on here but in the last 2 games Maylee was absolutely useless. She's been great but at this point she won't be missed on the pitch.

Define or refine that.

In a game on a team that was poor but had some good indivual glimpses and touches she was non existent. She's spent force.
Which of the others players on the team did you consider as being useful?

If that keeper can only concentrate on her skill she would be much better than she is now

It will be helpful if you provide some context to your statement, for a better understanding. Is it that you find her good but needs improvement? Is it that you find her sub standard? Is it that you are aware that she focuses on skills other than GK? To date she has been a stalwart for T&T between the uprights.

Trini _2026, I relate to your saying "5 of Caribbean heritage". Please, however, help me to understand the significance of your statement that "8  players were black".  ??? ???

Anbrat, I don't understand. Of the 8 Black players on the team, 5 were of Caribbean descent.
Deeks, I saw and supported a Canadian team of eleven (11) on field players, the substitute bench, coach and other technical staff, all gelling harmoniously to provide a winning performance. The racial composition of the team never entered my mind hence my reaching out in an attempt to understand the significance/relevance of the comment that "8  players were black".

Canada has a history of excluding the "Black"players from the MNT program. The past controllers of Canadian Soccer has always tried to manage the number of black players coming into the team. This is the first wcq campaign where the 7 sometimes 8 of the starters are of Caribbean/African extraction.
With that being said, the non black players on the team are the creme of the crop and just as SOLID. . Johnston, Eustaqio and Borjan and Vitorio.. Boss players.
"Canada has a history of excluding the "Black"players from the MNT program. The past controllers of Canadian Soccer has always tried to manage the number of black players coming into the team".

Thank you for this enlightening information, gawd on pitch. I was not aware of this alleged discriminatory practice by Canada. Did/does Canada apply this practice to its other sports teams viz hockey, cricket, etc?
.................gawd on pitch? Are you still there? ???

Have you been tuned out during the long ongoing social discussion in Western societies regarding inclusion, diversity, identity, representation, conceptions of the other, self, spatial markers, cultural dissonance, migration etc. ... all of which have well-documented nexus with sport ... football not excepted?
Have you been tuned in to the evolution of the Canadian society, particularly the most populated provinces of Ontario & Quebec, over the last 50 years?

Rarely a promising sign when a question is treated with a question. Especially one that shifts the burden of response and content. But, I will indulge you.

A: Empirically only partially. Nevertheless, the favorable part adds up to about three decades + ... so that covers the piece/ period that matters sufficiently: 1986 WC to present. The rest I can intuit from viewing Kim's Convenience.

Supplement your contribution. Include a substantive response to my question (which implicitly suggested personal knowledge).

And go on the record as to why the mention of the ethnic composition of the players lit a fire under your seat.
asylumseeker, your question was treated with a question to localize the focus instead of applying a broad brush approach by your reference to "western societies". Rarely a promising sign when the 1 cap fits all is applied. Au contraire, in respect of your assertion "shifts the burden of response and content", my question was intended to lend proper perspective to the topic at hand.

Incidentally, I would certainly not describe the mention of the racial (not "ethnic") composition as having "lit a fire under your seat". My response was casual in nature and by no means antagonistic, but simply seeking an understanding of its relevance. Nothing more, nothing less.

Apart from Alfonso Davis, I do like Buchanan. Real exciting player.
I share your opinion of Buchanan who I have seen as a youth player. He is maturing into a really top notch player. Richie Laryea is also deserving of special mention.
