When Wim took over one of the first things he said was that our pro league is not up to standard. That showed yesterday... a pro league team against a MLS team and look what went on.

BTW.. Jack Warner and the TTFF do not care about Trinidad and Tobago nor football in Trinidad and Tobago. If they did, that group of players would not have been on that pitch in this tournament.

stewps. Logie at his age was in far better shape. IS professional cricket he talking about comin back to then he needs to be professionally fit. plain and simple.

Are you comparing Logie to Lara at this age? I'll pick Lara 300 times before I pick Logie at ANY age in Logie's career. AND each person's body is different.. you are only saying that by just looks for there is no way you can determine just how fit Lara is at this stage.

Dwight could make a good stance like he pardner Lara... he could turn it down UNLESS ALL ELIGIBLE PLAYERS ARE SELECTED. Lara earned respect for his position and he would help the players tremendously.

Cricket Anyone / Re: If Lara was part of the Lloyd era
« on: April 10, 2007, 07:43:19 AM »
I think it is unfair to compare Lara to any other of the great West Indies captains, up to the end of the Richie Richardson era, for they are under very different periods. Periods under Richards, Lloyd and others before was at a time where West Indies cricket was the main focus. These days it is a lot about money and territorial pride. It is not that easy to motivate players under these conditions.

Think about this....can anyone familiar with the pre-Richards era recall seeing flags from various countries among players during celebrations? You see players draped in Jamaican flags, barbados flags, Vincy flags etc.. everyone choosing to identify with their nation even though they are playing for the West Indies.   That is a problem. Once you are playing for the West Indies the only colours that matter are the maroon  colours. All territorial allegiances should be checked at the door.

With this goin on no one cant convince me that Holding doesnt get into the ears of the Jamaican players and talk to them at Jamaicans and not West Indian players. There is a difference!

Inter-island rivally is playing itself out in West Indies cricket and Lara is being made the scapegoat. If he was Jamaican Holding wasnt going to have a problem. He didnt have a problem with Walsh who was as untactical ;-) as any captain could get. That''s why Mark Taylor owned him. Or I didnt hear much complaints from Holding about Jimmy Adams who was the WORST thing to captain the West Indies. The inter-island rivallaries is whats killing West Indies cricket and unfortunately I dont see how it is going to end.

Contrary to the opinion of some people on this forum I believe that the squad picked was in fact not the best possible squad that could have been picked. The main reason for this, is that we have two players in the squad, maybe more who cannot perform a job for the team in this world cup. One is Lendll Simmons the other is Keiron Pollard. However good Pollard is, and however good he will be in the future, he has only played a few ODI's if any and I do not see him playing one game in this world cup. Why he is in the squad is beyond me; we already have two bits and pieces all-round jokers in Bravo and Smith and don't give me the argument that he is in this squad to gain experience. A world cup is no place to groom future players. Secondly, I believe that Simmons was one of the selections that Lara is arguing with over the selectors. By batting him at No.8 he was effectively telling the selectors "you've given me a player i can do nothing with, so i'll bat him at 8". I believe that picking more experienced players would have been the way to go: Wavell Hinds has proven to be v.successful when playing in the Caribbean, as has Ricardo Powell who I believe should still be part of this one day team. Fidel Edwards should have been picked also to give us an extra strike bowling option despite all the shit hes liable to bowl in between.

Well said... I cannot believe that after the Indian tour debacle they still went ahead and selected a team without input from the captain. Yes, you cannot have the World Cup as the avenue for anyone to gain experience....Can anyone tell me that Morton was not a better pick then Pollard? At this stage??

And as far as I am concerned Roberts and Holding dem need to shut to f**k up as no one can say Lara picked the wrong team against NZ... Let's look at it this way.. the rationale was to pick the extra batsman so the team could have more runs on the board. On paper we had batting up to NO 8 Simmons made 14 N.O. out of 177. Can anyone say that Taylor would have made more than 14? So we can assume he would have made less. Lets say he would have made 4... would give us a total of 167....would Taylor have made a difference in bowling out NZ for less than 167?? In case you guys dont know NZ just chased 300+ TWICE against Australia and got it....so we needed runs.. the cappo went for runs and players came up short... Taylor could not have given us more runs

This shows his advisors probably made an error in letting him sign for an MLS club instead of going to a youth program in Europe. His development there would have helped him better e.g Lionel Messi..

As for your teams that don't have to fight to get out of their group...If we look at the 'new' WC results...Results since Brazil won their 3rd WC in 1970 and got to keep the Jules Rimet trophy: Brazil didn't get past the first round in 1974

Just to correct you... the only time Brazil didnt make it out of the first round in recent times was in 1966 in England. They made the semis in '74.. i aint messin with ya point.. just making a lil correcting for ya :-)

Football / Oh what a great thing Zidane did :-)
« on: July 12, 2006, 01:30:32 PM »
Zizou at the time may not have realised what a great thing he was doing for the great sport of football by his actions.

Let's face it...his sending off had very little impact on the game. France still dominated in the 10 mins that was left, italy still couldnt score and Trezeguet would have still taken that penalty as a striker. So the result most likely would have been the same. We can make that assumption.

However, instead of talking about 'brilliant' football or tough defence,  we are forced to talk about something I don't think FIFA wants to talk about.. RACISM IN FOOTBALL. Which one is carrying more news, Italy's victory or the head-butt? And the reason for the that is there had to be extreme provocation to prompt his actions.

So FIFA with all his show with players standing on front of the "Say no to Racism" banner before games must admit that it is a major problem and no longer give it just lip service and finally deal with the incidents that are happening in Spain and Italy as we can see that they also manifest in players.

So, thank you Zizou. I think the Master used your greatness in another format. Not to pleasure us with beauty on the field as you had done for many many years, but to place on the front burner the ugly monster that is racism

Question.. Was Wim the assistant who had the fallingout with Nakhid??? I cant remember...

A BSC coached TnT under 19 squad, without Dwight Yorke, did beat Brazil 4-2 in the National Stadium. Yes it wasnt the full squad but it wasnt far from it....

That Brazil squad was not even a shadow of their real squad....Their real squad went all the way to the final of that same World Cup tournament, and lost to Portugal on penalty kicks........I reiterate, we lost our games 6-0, 4-0 & 2-0....

I eh fighting down Bertille....but what yuh have to say about that ?

Exactly.. I know you eh fighting down Bertille, but we talking bout the development of our youth. Our youth system was strong then, a lot of talent came through and we cannot ignore that. The point is why can't we still use his services at the youth level.

18
While I agree with peeps who talk bout BSC in terms of a senior coach I dont think his talents are being fully utilized.

I saw without a doubt BSC is the most successful youth coach in the history of Trinidad and Tobago football. Allyuh remember Signal Hill??? He was the only man who could of beaten Sando Tech and Benedicts when they were running rampant. He is still the FIRST and ONLY caribbean coach to take a team to a World Cup. So credit must be given for his abilities in working to develop youth football.. And don't forget who was the man who developed Dwight Yorke to who he is today....

So while how management skills may not transfer easily onto the senior level, we should still use him at the youth level as his track records show his level of success there.

yeah but intercol football ranks no where on the map.....Could the Signal Hill of BSC's time beat the best competitive youth teams in Brazil, Argentina, England, Holland, Spain, France, Italy, etc ?..........the average intercol player is way way way way behind the curve compared to his global counterparts who have potential to succeed at the highest level.......Intercol football is somewhat of a joke to be honest......and BSC's world cup team lost 6-0, 4-0 & 2-0.....so there should be an addendum to the praise you sing. BSC must be given credit for his abilities in working to develop youth football BY TRINIDAD & TOBAGO STANDARDS.....and sadly our standard of youth football is and has been poor..........

I respect BSC, but I'm kinda tired of people singing the same old praises of him and not putting them into a global context.......

BSC is ah good youth coach but he eh beat no Sando Tech..doh give him all dat props... ;D
Seriously though, allyuh feel BSC will want to coach ah youth team and work in conjunction with the senior team staff?  To start all youth players with dreads automatically have to sell nuts or punch at de side of de road because BSC is very set in his ways.

Go back and check.. I sure he beat Sando Tech...that was just before they went and recruit latas an dem...Dave Pope from Palo Seco had scored a wicked bullet that they disallowed in that game.. so he did beat Tech :-)

Seems like we are going to hold on the the Dutch format and I am all for that. It seems to fit right into out style as opposed to other international formats. However, if that is the case why is it that Lincoln Phillips is the man assigned to supervise the development of local coaches? Shouldn't be the responsbility of someone who can communicate the "Dutch"sysem which we seem to be adopting?

Also, on what basis has Anton Corneal been selected as the local coach? What is his success record? On whose recommendation was he appointed? Were other local coaches considered and what made Corneal a better selection than them? That part makes me feel like this is going to be business as usual.

imagine , with two games left in the 2006 world cup, not a single player has scored at least three goals in a game. when's the last time that happened?it would be a shame.perhaps henry could do it to get he golden boot on sunday.

Thats what happens when the majority of teams choose to play one striker :-(

Excellent point...Y on earth did he think he can hold on to 1-0 lead against Germany, of all teams, for over 20 mins. Germany has a rep for not giving up...Argenting went away from what they were doing all World Cup, attacking,  and not they are heading to the airport
