OUR NATION'S DAWNING

Come come away, hail to the day,
This is our land's great morning,
Birds in the trees waft to the breeze
Songs of the Nation's dawning.
Humming bright, lend your delight,
Ibis your scarlet feathers;
Keskidee call, summon them all
This is a day of wonders!

    Oh land of fairest beauty
We pledge our lives to duty
And vow this day to serve thee.

Flamboyant gay, make glad the day
Colourful blooms resplendent.
Hibiscus hedge witness our pledge
And honour this day transcendent
Fireflies bright, shine through the night:
Illumine our thanksgiving.
Of this great day each heart can say
This is our Nation's Dawning!

yeah basically he said PMN is a democratic party, they accept the results and he takes full responsibility for it and now he has to consider his political future. At which point his adoring fans sent up a faint chorus of "noooooo"

we're looking at moving to the west coast by the end of this year. Tired of cold upstate winters, tired of high NYS taxes. The man lived in LA for about 5 years when he was younger and wants to go back. Not sure where in Cali we'll end up, probably wherever they pay him more.

General Discussion / Down d islands
« on: December 22, 2009, 08:01:47 PM »
Ok so back in 07 when I took the entire family to trini, we went down the islands. We went to the old Fantasy island resort which according to the guy, a nice fella named Fuddy  who organise for us, was being rebuilt. There were houses or apartments for rent and the price was pretty decent. Last year when we went, I didnt get to go back but I still saw signs all over for the same guy. This year so many times I fly in and out and didnt think about down the islands until these last 2 weeks and when I went, couldnt see any signs and my brother told me that as far as he know, the "rebuild" buss and the place shut down again.

I am planning to take the kids again sometime in the first quarter of next year, either february for presidents week or sometime around spring break but this time is going to be a real vacation and not like I usually do which is get dragged round to go visit all them pumpkin vine family I ent see in several years. SO I want to take the kids down the islands for about a week, where nobody could just "drop in" for a visit unless they have a boat  ;D
Does any one know any websites or have any numbers to real estate agents or know anybody at all who could get info on any rentals that might be available down the islands? Or if anyone can tell me if the resort thing really gone through?  I did a search online and found one site, but there was a disclaimer that said that they didn't have first hand knowledge of any of the rentals but were just passing on info.

Any information/contacts/ whatever you guys might have would be greatly appreciated.

« on: December 17, 2009, 08:55:29 PM »
WHy do you say that you wish it were true? It is all possible, just depends on what channels you like to watch. Even the 6 year old knows how to find stuff on Hulu or how to download his shows from netflix.

occasionally if the dvrs miss a recording, I'll buy the episode from itunes or watch it on hulu, or if it's an older one, order the disc from netflix. Since all except one of the tvs in the house have either a 360, ps3 or a pc connected to them and they're all online, we can all watch our shows at anytime. The wii is supposed to be getting netflix too and if it does, then the 4 year old's tv becomes part of our netflix network.

I still have cable but that's just because i am a bit reluctant to make that final cut. Also, I really hate using the fancy remote that controls everything but the garage door to switch from system to system  ;D too many buttons. And I can't get HBO or showtime shows online in real time. Sure I could get season one episodes of true blood from  netflix or seasons 1,2,3 of the tudors, but nothing in real time. So far my reluctance (and Tru Blood/The tudors addiction) is costing me about $160 a month, but as the man likes to point out, it's my bill, I want it, I pay for it. 2010 may just be the year where I give up on it since we seem to spend alot of time watching our shows on hulu anyway. Even the stuff that the dvrs record.

ah asking a serious question

1) What good comes out of exacting the death penalty other than a sense of revenge/satisfaction and perhaps saving some money?

Possible answers

1) Deterrent? if so, then Texas would have a 0 homicide rate
2) Closure? not sure about that because killing the killer does not bring back the victims.  Only time may heal and that is still not a guarantee
3) Guarantee that the killer is not released to kill again? could be, but if the criminal system was efficient, those killers would never be released to kill again
4) weeding out evil?  then the system better impose the death penalty for a wider array of evil crimes which extend beyond homicide.

for the record, i believe that rehabilitation is a crock.  I would rather they stay in jail forever and repay their debt by working for society for the rest of their lives.

What good comes out of exacting the death penalty other than a sense of revenge/satisfaction and perhaps saving some money?

pecan I really didn't read your 'possible answers', but mine is quite straight forward.

answer: my piece of mind that this son of ah bitch not alive to hurt another.

I going personal now. I said this before in this very forum. I was on the jury for the Sa Gomes and Scott murder trial (#9) I sat in that chair for a month and 2 days. I watched the families of the 2 murdered women. I watched the maid who was beaten, raped and sodomized.  I watch Chuck Attin mother every single day just sitting there in a daze. I watched the face expressions of the Mohammed fella.  I listened to the graphic evidence what these fellas did to the maid before going on the killing spree. I held the blood stained knife/cutlass, the blood stained underwear, pieces of tape, pictures of their nude bodies, pictures of the blood stained walls/ground/carpet.  It only took us about 12 mins to come back with a verdict. Mohammed was sentence to death and Attin being a minor at the time got life. My civic duty was to sit there, listen and decide. That was ALL those 2 was getting from me. It took a mental and physical toil on me. I felt sick....lost weight and was in a mild depression. I was angry for a long time. Not because of the crime, but because the children had to grow up without their mothers. Young mothers. Who's to say they didn't do crime prior to that case? Or if wasn't caught what more gruesome acts they would be performing.

So pecan I have justification for what I believe in and why I know what I'd do whether for self defense, protection or to protect someone else.  Because I know and I see what humans can do...just because they can!!

pecan we will agree to disagree....I'm fine with that. You continue to nourish them for me to hang after. :beermug

Girl, I remember that like it was yesterday. Shivers up and down my spine.

Yes it's definitely my point of view.....still is!
What is the difference between a spilt decision and when caught after the fact? The fact reminds is you committed a crime that led to someone's death. Worst yet for a repeat offender. And you still alive? NAH!! I'm no judge but am sure  part of a jury.

Whether be spilt decision or a 4 year trial in court, my stand is, you going to your maker for a crime you committed. Take for example that guy from Cleveland. He was in jail for many years for rape and whatever. He was released and to this day they still looking for bodies at his house - AFTER his release crimes. The count reached 11 women. He shows no remorse for his crimes committed. If it wasn't for one of the raped victims reporting his ass, he would have still be killing women out there today and family members still out there searching for their loved ones.  What's the plan with him now? Send him back to jail for life and feed him? Seek therapy?  steupse!!

If I have to be part of weeding out the evils of this world, so be it! When it's my turn to meet my maker, we'll have a debate. You earthlings not convincing me at all. :-\

***********************************
Kounty my post is a general post, and not in response to any story in here. I also get vex and frustrated when the line for gas long and I'm late for a meeting because of traffic. That anger goes way beyond....

Amen, amen, preach on. I have a daughter. Four years old. And so help me if anyone even look at her the wrong way he will deal with me. And if god forbid...... anything like that ever happened, put the damn rope in my hand, I go handle them myself. Rape, assault, whatever you want to call it is bad. But ( and this is my opinion) when you attack a child, or an elderly woman, the crime is intensified. You attack me, at least I have a fighting change to save myself. You go after a 5 year old. Aint right.

Queen, you say you dont know what you would do in a situation like that, I already know. There are some things that are unforgivable. Some things that dont make sense. Some things that dont even need a judge and jury and a prison sentence.

Man does be ringin' out real tune
The drum and bass

Sweet music in de place

A steelband man

He's a iron man'
Yes he told me plain

To bottle and spoon

(CHORUS)

Whiskey bottle
Or rum bottle
Does sound real nice,
When ah man rattle
So de Carnival

Plenty spoon go' sell

(CHORUS)

If yuh bottle small
You mus' realize
Dat de spoon to use
Is a medium size
But if yuh spoon too large
Well den is manslaughter
Yuh bottle going to break
And throw way de water

(CHORUS)

General Discussion / Murder, rape charges pending in Shaniya Davis case
« on: November 20, 2009, 05:04:03 PM »
I tried to stay away from this one...really, but I saw the article today and really broke down. I cannot understand some people. I cannot understand why. She was only five years old, a year older than my princess and ......... well. All I can say is  public execution by fire/hanging/genital mutilation too good for this jackass and the mother.... WHY? Why are people so evil? And is it wrong that after reading this story I wanted to get in my car, drive to the carolinas with a blunt rusty pair of scissors and castrate both of them? Doesnt that make me just as bad as them? RIP Shaniya.

********************************

CNN)  -- Murder and rape charges will be filed against a North Carolina man in the death of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis, police said Thursday.

Mario Andrette McNeill had already been charged with kidnapping the Fayetteville, North Carolina, girl. She was reported missing last week, and her body was found Monday beside a road near Sanford, about 30 miles northwest of Fayetteville.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate the child was asphyxiated, Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Bergamine told reporters Thursday, but testing is still being completed and a final report has not been issued.

McNeill will be charged with first-degree murder and rape of a child, Bergamine said. The new arrest warrants were being served Thursday night.

The girl's mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, has been charged with human trafficking and other offenses. Police have said they believe Davis was prostituting the child.

According to police, surveillance video taken November 10 from a hotel in Sanford, North Carolina, shows Shaniya in the company of McNeill.

Authorities had said Wednesday they would need to determine where Shaniya was killed before filing additional charges. Fayetteville is in Cumberland County, while Sanford is in Lee County. Bergamine said Thursday jurisdiction in the case would remain in Cumberland County. "We started it from the beginning and wanted to finish it out," he said.

Police still are not sure exactly where Shaniya was killed, Bergamine said. Police earlier had said they believe the child was alive when she left the hotel.

"Current charges on Ms. Davis are standing as they are right now," Bergamine said. But he told reporters the investigation was ongoing.

He and other officers spoke about the emotional toll the investigation has taken on them. Grief counseling has been under way for officers at the department, he said.

"It's been a tough case," said Fayetteville Police Capt. Charles Kimball, the toughest in his 14 years, he said. "Our mission was to find Shaniya and we did it."

"This case here has reached out and touched all of us," Bergamine said.

Shaniya's father, Bradley Lockhart, made a tearful appeal before reporters Tuesday afternoon, asking that "everybody makes it a point not to ignore, to look past a situation where a person, a child, or anybody might be in danger ... so that we don't have another tragedy like Shaniya."

The girl went to her mother's last month, he said.
