Football / Time for the Ministry of Sport to give more $ to football
« on: November 16, 2013, 03:23:42 PM »
Seeing our recent run of good performances from our National senior team after such a long run of poor performances, just shows we do have talented footballers and it only took a good coach like Stephen Hart to prove this with the same players.

Is the Ministry of sport willing to inject more $ in football to hire more good coaches like Hart and for more development programs?

Definitely with more funding from the Ministry of Sport we can be one of the top football country in CONCACAF.

Mr. Technical Director what you have to say about our U17 girls allowing 26 girls an scoring 0 in 3 games! Do you know these scores are posted all over the world. What a SHAME to all Trinis!

I hear the usual excuses no funding, lack of preparation. At this level am not buying, here is why.

90% of the players are at home, a coach needs soccer balls, cones, pinnies, a soccer field and an athletic therapist, not much expense there. As for games they can play vs boys U14 / U15 teams and even some older women local teams at the club level but this needs to be the vision of a coach and Technical Director to fully understand that getting the girls out and training is key to success.

Conceding 26 goals and scoring 0 in 3 games. Technical Director and coaching staff needs to be accountable and not the players.

If you want change in TTFF now is time to protest the minister office. At some time Dictators time do come to an end, so now is the time for Trinidad and Tobago football fans to say "WE HAD ENOUGH".

Maybe if the same coach is in charge for at least 4 years, I think that our team will be much better prepared.

Latas probably has the potential but it might be a bit of a gamble but the odds are in favor of him being a good coach... but let us not judge him this early in his coaching career.

Another good thing is to get a couple of top class coaches/advisers to work with him on a part-time basis. Sometimes coaches do like to have a second opionion but it must be of quality...

Football / Juma Clarence?
« on: September 30, 2009, 10:24:14 AM »
Why was a quality player like Clarence sitting on the bench to start the WC?

This guy so far has proven to be by far the best striker on this team.

Clarence showed his class vs some good oppsition so far in the WC, Egypt and Italy.

How come the coaching staff didn't see the potential in this youth having work with him for a long period of time before the WC to know that he is a starter on this U20 team?

How knowledgable is our coaches at evaluating talent...to find that edge in a player.

You would then ask the question how many good young players are being missed...

Football / Congrats SH as head coach for Canada at the Gold Cup!
« on: April 17, 2009, 11:03:34 AM »
If SH comes up with good a showing at the Gold Cup they should give him the head coach position. The last time at the Gold Cup he did well and it was his first time being a head coach at the senior international level.

There are few coaches from TT that came up in the old school system where soccer was like a religion just going and looking for a sweat 6 days of the week SH is one. SH brings something to coaching that few coaches possesses and that is being able to recognize strength and weakness in players overall game and this is something learn from playing 6 days of the week, no coaching course can teach you this.

HERE IS THE MEDIA PRESS RELEASE.

Association appoints Stephen Hart as interim head coach

The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that technical director Stephen Hart will assume, on an interim basis, the head coaching responsibilities for the Men’s Senior National Team, for the duration of the 2009 season. Mr. Hart will lead Canada’s men’s national team at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer, starting with the international friendly match in Larnaca against Cyprus on 30 May.

We are very happy to have Mr. Hart in this role for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup,” said Canadian Soccer Association President Dr. Dominic Maestracci.

Canada’s 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup schedule opens 3 July against Jamaica in Los Angeles, CA. Canada then faces El Salvador on 7 July in Columbus, OH and Costa Rica on 10 July in Miami, FL. There are three groups of four teams, so eight of the 12 teams will advance to the quarter-final stage in Philadelphia, PA (18 July) and Dallas, TX (19 July). The tournament then moves to Chicago, IL for the semi-final on 23 July and New York, NY for the championship final on 26 July.

“The task in hand will be to lead Canada at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup,” said Canadian Soccer Association Technical Director Stephen Hart.

Mr. Hart was named the Canadian Soccer Association’s Technical Director in March 2008. He heads the Association’s long-term player development plan, specifically the Wellness to World Cup campaign. He is also in charge of directing and monitoring the national development teams, the coaching education program, the National Training Centres, and the sports medicine program. With the national teams, he has most recently served as an assistant coach with the men’s national team. Two years ago as the team’s interim head coach, he led Canada to a semi-final finish at the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Football / Scotland & Glen who is better?
« on: February 27, 2009, 11:43:17 AM »
At present form Jason Scotland should be used instead of Cornell Glen, Jason is playing at a higher level than Glen and he is putting the ball in the back of the net, so why is Glen been given the nod over Jason.

Football / Latas I am not buying this for poor judgement.
« on: February 15, 2009, 11:39:25 AM »
“Football is a game of philosophies and opinions. He (Maturana) is the head coach and the only philosophy and opinion that counts is his. We have to try and do what he’s teaching us and is asking of us. Obviously he has quality because he’s qualified,he’s won a lot of things and he’s an absolute legend in South America . He likes to play a certain way and I think we have the players to play in any system so it’s just a case of whoever is in charge likes to play.”

I don't buy this, there is no way in a WC game playing in a hostile and fan crazy environment as in any one of those central American country where you have a 2 goal lead in the last 10 mins and seeing your midfield line struggling defensively and stop thinking offensively by just giving the ball away and you as a coach sat there and did nothing. If Maturana had toss in a a defensive midfielder for Stern and El Salvador had tied the game then we would had been very humble cause it's the obvious coaching move.

I wonder if Maturana were looking at the same game or his thoughts were probably back in Colombia.

Football / How much say does Latas have.
« on: February 11, 2009, 09:28:55 PM »
I think that if Latas had some control of the changes we would never have had 2 strikers out there especially when you are playing away form home with a lead and coming to the end of a game. If Latas supported the 2 strikers then i would say give him a break he is a rookie coach at this level and will learn.

It was plane to see that  our midfield were tired coming to the end of the game, not because they a not in shape but El Salvador was moving the ball well in the middle and Yorke is in his late 30's and don't have much full game under his belt this season.

A extra mid for a striker would have at least not have us backing up at top of the box we would have been able to pressure them more high and would not have given up those 2 free kicks.

I think that an investigation should be done as to why the coaching at this game was at minor league level. A blind coach would have know to pull out a striker and put on a defensive midfield player.

Football / What Beenie did to Latas in 2006 is SAD!!
« on: October 12, 2008, 08:01:47 PM »
Just looking at Latas performace vs Guatemala, I would have liked to see Latas played in all the games in WC 2006.

I would still say to this day if Latas had given the respect by Beenie to go out there and take control of the games TT would have had a great chance to make it to the 2nd round.

Football / Our problem in selecting a coach
« on: September 20, 2008, 06:42:48 PM »
Most of the time we put a coach on a short term deal as per Maturana, it is almost impossible for any coach to have success at the international level on short term preparation, reason is that the the difference between winning and losing draws a fine line.

Did TTFF ever thought about the previous US coach Bruce Arena for the job, he knows CONCACAF and he was pretty good with the US team, I think that someone who knows our region will have a better chance to be successful.

Football / TTFF Wake up and use our foreign players!
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:17:00 PM »
TTFF if a player is playing in Europe or any other foreign league, it means that those players are better than those who are playing in our home league.

If our home league players were good, then they would have been playing in Europe or MLS etc..

There might be the odd home base player that would be a good fit with our national team but our team has to be made up of foreign players.

SIMPLE, OUR FOREIGN PLAYERS ARE BETTER THAN OUR LOCAL PLAYERS!!!!!!!!

ANTON AND MATURANA WAKE UP AND USE OUR FOREIGN PLAYERS!!

Football / We need some experience (Yorke)
« on: June 16, 2008, 07:06:14 AM »
Yorke is still good to play at a high level in the PL which is the most physical league in the world.

He would definite be an assest, WC soccer is a whole different ball game and the key to success is having an experience leader in your midfield.

The problem lies in our administration and technical minds, who still don't understand the game and the key elements it takes to build a winning team.

How can we lose to BERMUDA at home, this is really sad.

17
We had our over 35, 7 aside finals last night, we had no spares, playing 3-1-2 and me one holding down the midfield, just playing on experience, 1 goal and set up 2 we won 5-2.

5 mins into the second half I pull the hammie, but I fought through it, today I am on the ice.

No lie, but I play with guys from all over Europe, and they do know how to knock the ball, man I try to play with me own brothers at times in other leagues and you talk about headache and selfish ball, I don't know when some brothers will learn, if you are at this stage and you don't get it, no hope.

18
When man go down hurt to waste time, I think once the coaching staff is call onto the field, that player must wait 5 mins before returning back onto the field of play, this will eliminate faking and time wasting. I know that there are some real injuries but the faking is done to often to waste time when protecting a lead.

We need to come up with something on the off side, too many bad calls.

19
Teams that get eliminated from Champions league and allow to still compete in UEFA does not seems right.

I think that if you get eliminated you should go home an regroup for next season.

It's like saying you didn't win the PL but came in 2nd, so go and play the winner of the Championship div for the Championship title.

Football / Who thinks that Inter can pull it off.
« on: March 11, 2008, 10:30:33 AM »
I think that Inter can pull it off but it will not be an easy task. if any team at presently, can come back from 2 goals down Inter will be my choice, they are a team in top form.

Sometimes it's a difficult decision for coaches to make as to there game plan, should Liverpool play more defensive or play there regular game, it can be a tough call, but sitting on a 2 goal lead you will play a much more discipline game. But if Inter can put one in early, game plans will be different for Liverpool.

I am all set, wife at work, and I got myself a pot of cassava and saltfish and a couple for Molson brew.

Football / Who do you rank as the present #1 striker in the world.

There is something about Robinho, I  know that there are other good strikers out there but everytime Robinho is on the Ball i feel that he can make something happen.

I will have to go with Robinho.

Football / Can Latas or Dwight be our Roger Miller and play at 44?
« on: January 02, 2008, 01:43:01 PM »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/scot_prem/7165324.stm

I don't think it is impossible but as a player / asst coach. No one will be more honest that Latas, if he thinks that he can help I think that he will make the right decision. If not Latas then we can give Dwight the opportunity.

Anton may have gain some coaching experience during his previous engagements, but what Latas and Yorke can bring to our National team will be a plus.

One thing for sure is that Latas or Yorke will have our players better focus for big games that Anton, mainly due to the respect that they will get from the players. Anton as a player has not achieve anything in the big leagues as Latas or Yorke and  this can mean a lot when the going gets tough during qualifications, so I hope TTFF look ahead and don't wait to make last minute adjustment.

Football / Anton is a gamble.
« on: December 24, 2007, 05:44:55 PM »
To coach a senior National Team you need to have some coaching success at the senior international level.

Being an assistant gives you some experience but it does not mean anything until you actually prove yourself as a head coach at this level.

Anton struggle to qualify against weak competition for the WC with our U 17 and then he was totally out coached in the U17 WC.

I think that putting Anton as our Senior head coach is a huge gamble and for us to take a gamble on a coach for WC qualifications is not the correct choice, since we did make it to the last WC.

If we are taking a gamble on a coach then we should have approach someone like Latas. Here is the big difference between Anton and Latas.

Latas way better player, played at a much higher level, has great leadership qualities, so will Latas be a better coach that Anton, we don't have that answer but if we a taking a gamble it should be Latas.

I hope that I am wrong about Anton and for the sake of pride we do well and make to the WC.

Football / What is Wim coaching record?
« on: October 13, 2007, 10:43:21 PM »
What has Wim accomplish as a coach before taking over our National program. Are these guys just there to make a quick buck and run.

Having foreign coaches and losing to Grenada is totally unacceptable.

Someone please tell me what has Wim accomplish as a head coach before taking over our National program, and don't tell me that he work with this coach and that coach.

Football / What is it, System, coaching or players development
« on: August 26, 2007, 11:46:50 AM »
We got embarrass as one of the best fooball country in the Caribbean.

I didn't see any of the games but what system did we play? From these scores I don't think that we played a defensive system.

Was it poor coaching or is it just that our player development has fallen behind.

But we are still producing players, that can play in Europe, so I don't think that our development program is poor.

Football / What is going on with our offense
« on: August 25, 2007, 06:35:48 PM »
I can see our defending problems, but our country always produce players with the offensive skills to be creative which is a key asset in scoring goals.

Our senior men and our youths have played 7 hours and 30 mins of World Cup Soccer and got only 1 goal to show, can this be explained.

Football / Can Anton coach or is he there because of politics
« on: August 23, 2007, 09:28:17 PM »
I don't mind our kids losing but give them a coach who can coach.

A good coach is one one who wins the big games, what big tournament has Anton won.

Is Anton there due to the politics of our football or is he a good coach, maybe I miss his major coaching accomplishments on the field.

I know we have good local coaches but we have a corrupt administration, don't start saying how our kids are to skinny etc.. let us first look at the root of the problem which is coaching, does the kids have the coach to take them to the next level...

For example, I saw the highlights from the first game and most of the goals we gave up was bad coaching, the kids were trying to play the off side trap and you can see they that they were not taught the proper principles off playing the trap.

I posted it earlier to play a defensive system and as game gets older make the necessary adjustment, in soccer defense is your first priority

Football / System and style of play for U 17 at the WC
« on: August 03, 2007, 05:28:00 PM »
We are not a physical team or a team that is built on conditioning. We will be beaten easily if we try to out work teams or play a physical game. We can be a competitive team if we play the game depending on our skill with the ball.

We need to start the tournament with a defensive system 4-5-1 or 5-4-1, to be successful with any of the two system you have to be very patient in your build up, lots of ball movement in your half of the field, pulling out the oppsition, creating space and then moving forward, this will give one of the wide players time to move up in a striking position and also you can create a lot of overlapping or third man running plays which will easily beat the off trap, since most teams are playing zone defense.

The other good thing is when the ball is lost you have the #s to defend, best form of defending is being stack in your defending zone and applying your defending principles, e.g don't dive in, patience, force the attacker wide, delay for the double team.

Players are young and they must be mentally prepared, it is the WC, don't get overwhelp with the hype, just play the game as you are vs any other 11 players and don't worry about the big name countries. Good luck!!

CAN THIS BE FORWARD TO ANTON

Football / SH To Stay on?
« on: June 22, 2007, 06:25:46 AM »
I think that Canada should rethink there decision not to keep SH as there head coach. It has been a while since Canada has look so good in there overall play and any coach that can get a team to perform this good on a short program must be taken seriously.

Canada always had these players available but SH was able to put the right combination on the field, even when Canada just recently had a top class coach from Germany by the name of Holger and he wasn't able to get this team to perform as SH did.

Football / Goal cup team from a coaching point of view
« on: June 18, 2007, 08:28:34 PM »
Judging our Gold Cup performane our players are starting to understand how this game should be played, knowing that this team was our B team the guys overall  play was not to bad. I see players trying to build up the attack constructively instead of PANICKING.

The big problem though is understanding that there is a fine line between winning and losing and this is where a coach makes the difference.

Examples:
The guys are lost when it comes to playing the off side trap.

A bit more patient when building up the attack.

Strikers need to bring the mids into the attack instead of going it alone to many times and losing possesion

I would agree that the coach does need to be reevaluated although this was a B team but some of his coaching mistake was basic stuff.
