Football / Akeem Adams on trial with Seattle Sounders FC.
« on: October 13, 2010, 10:18:43 AM »
Not sure where to post this so I started a new thread, if you guys want to merge it go right ahead.  :beermug:

I saw Akeem Adams for the first time last night as he came on at the start of the second half for the Sounders as they take on Chivas de Guadalajara. Sounders end up winning the game 3-1  ;D

I am no Touches, so I am just gonna share my thoughts and observation.

The good:

He is big and strong, he is left footed and played Left Back. Not sure if this is his normal position though. He is very young and got good exposure last night. Took him a good 20 mins to actually touch the ball, but showed some good composure after the players try to get him involved.

The bad:

He is very slow. Picked up an unnecessary yellow card and was at fault for the Chivas goal. A cross came in, lost his man, who is much smaller than him and an easy header was scored. Made a nice run down the left as the Chivas players left him by himself..lots of room, he made it down the end line and then he miss kicked his cross in, ball going out for a goal kick. He look very one footed, kinda strange for a left footer.

I left with 5 mins remaining, so not sure if you did any thing else..Sounders did score a late goal as I wass walking out.

I think he is a good prospect for the future, I mean he did get a tryout with a MLS club at the age of 19, that has to mean something. He probably was a little nervous and not match fit and I think that was the only competitive game he had in the week he was here.

I wish him all the best and hope it works out for him  :beermug: Would love to see ah Trini make the team  ;D

Tiger Text Messages App Popular iPhone App Privacy Tool

http://beforeitsnews.com/news/21751/Tiger_Text_Messages_App_Popular_iPhone_App_Privacy_Tool.html

New York, NY - iPhone Apps are exploding with a popular new entrant called the Tiger Text App.  The Tiger Text App is especially popular with people interested in keeping there confidential iphone text messages private.

As the name implies the Tigertext App can be used to protect an iPhone user from his or her messages being read by third parties.  The iPhone app was developed before the Tiger Woods affair scandal.

How it works:

The TigerText app allows recipients to read their message, but then the text will disappear after a specified amount of time.  the messages are stored on TigerText instead of the recipient's phone.  The Tiger text user can set message deletion from one minute to five days, or they can just set it to immediate deletion upon reading the text message.

The Tigertext App covers both text messages and phone call histories.

No word on whether Tiger Woods or his mistresses involved in the scandal have signed up for this iPhone app.

Jokes / Britain is Repossessing the USA
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:38:39 AM »
To the citizens of the United States of America :

In light of your failure to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately.

You should look up 'revocation' in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy). Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections.

Congress and the Senate will be disbanded.

A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Colony, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1.   Look up aluminium, and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.

2.   The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'favour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without  skipping half the letters, and the suffix –ize will be replaced by the suffix-ise.

Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').

3.   Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as 'like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.

There is no such thing as American English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell- checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of -ize.

4.   You will relearn your original national anthem, 'God Save The Queen.'

5.   July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday.

6.   You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough  to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist  then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.

7.   Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if You wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public!

8.   All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you European cars, you will  understand what we mean.

9.   All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

10.   The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have wrongly been calling gasoline), roughly $10 per US gallon. Get used to it.

11.   You will learn to make REAL chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cuts, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with salt and vinegar.

12.   The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance, will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth, and it can only be due to the beer. (Note: they are also part of British Commonwealth - see what it did for them.)

13.   Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as 'good guys.' Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie McDowell attempt English dialogue in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.

14.   You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play Rugby (which has some similarities to American Football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour  like a bunch of nancies). The South Africans and Kiwis will thrash you in Rugby, like they regularly thrash us.

15.   Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is played in only one city outside of America . Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn Cricket, and we will let you face  the South Africans first, to take the sting out of their deliveries.

16.   You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad!

17.   An official from Her Majesty's Inland Revenue (i.e. tax collector) will be with you shortly to ensure the collection of  all monies due (backdated to 1776). Until these are paid, there will be no representative government in the USA, in line with the policy “No Representation Without Taxation.”

18.   Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 pm with proper cups and saucers (never mugs), and with high quality biscuits (formally known to you as cookies) and cakes and strawberries when in season.

19.   Some tea has gone missing, and we expect it back! We'll be searching Boston first!

God Save The Queen.

:rotfl: Got this in an email from a coworker at my job lol. Just remind me of a lot of discussions we had right here  :)

Jokes / Lawyers
« on: March 27, 2008, 08:16:57 PM »
Lawyers should never ask a Mississippi grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. J ones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.'

The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?'

She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.'

 The defense attorney nearly died.

The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, 'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both to the electric chair.

Are You Raising Another Man's Child?

Patrick Connaro, a 42-year-old robotics engineer living in Colorado Springs, was sitting in the bleachers one warm Saturday afternoon in 2003, watching his son's Little League game, when the ground opened beneath him.

"My little boy was there, he was up at bat, and I started yelling for him, 'Go Matthew [not his real name]! Knock it out of the park!' And another man started screaming for Matthew. Louder than me. I looked over, and I looked at him, and I was like, Who is this guy? And I looked at my son, and I looked at him … and they were identical."

After the ball game, Connaro ordered a paternity test. The results came back 2 weeks later. "I opened up the letter from Labcorp, and it said, ' … 99.9 percent chance you are not the biological father of this child.' I started crying. My head started spinning."

Connaro admits that the possibility had crossed his mind before, given his son's dissimilar facial features, but each time he questioned his wife about it, she vehemently denied the suggestion. Even when he showed her the test results, she still denied it. "She said, 'You forged this,' " Connaro recalls, shaking his head in amazement.  ;D

LeBron building 35,440-square foot mansion  :o

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6619522?MSNHPHMA

AKRON, Ohio - LeBron James' 35,440-square-foot house under construction in Bath Township, Ohio is shaping up as a castle fit for a king — with a theater, bowling alley, casino and barber shop.

The house in a suburban location 20 miles south of Cleveland is due to be finished next year. It is being built on 5.6 acres of land purchased, along with an 11-bedroom house, in 2003 for $2.1 million.
The Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star and Akron native, whose stated goal is to be the world's first billionaire athlete, razed the house to clear the way for the new one.

A first-floor master suite, which includes a two-story walk-in closet, will be about 40 feet wide and 56 feet long — bigger than half the houses in Bath Township.

The house has a dining hall, roughly 27 feet by 27 feet, a "great room" at 34 feet by 37 feet and a bigger, two-story "grand room," according to the Akron Beacon Journal, which reported on the blueprints.

The "family foyer" off the six-car garage near the elevator will be dwarfed by a "grand foyer" inside the front entrance with a sweeping, divided staircase leading to four second-story bedrooms. An outer wall will feature a limestone sculpture — a bas-relief of LeBron's head, wearing his trademark headband.

The property is an oddly shaped tract wedged among lots that average 2.3 acres and houses that average 3,209 square feet. His property is 300 feet wide at the street and 677 feet deep.

The house already has begun to draw the curious.

"People who come to photograph it are disrespectful," said Tom Bader, one of nine immediate next-door neighbors. "They park their car in the middle of the street — with their doors open! And you're sitting behind them! All I wanna do is go home after a hard day's work."

Sometimes Bader must wait to turn into his driveway because gawkers have driven up, hoping for a better view of James' place.

"As far as LeBron the man goes, I think he's an outstanding individual," said Bader, a graduate of James' alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron.

"He's great for Cleveland. I'm proud to have him. I have no issues with LeBron James at all. The problem is the baggage that he unintentionally carries with him."

Bader has discouraged his children's dream that James might have them over to shoot hoops.

"I said, `Honey, I don't think that's going to happen. Besides that, don't ever, ever invite LeBron over to our house to play ball because he's going to twist his ankle and I will have my house eternally egged."'

While waiting for the home to be finished, James splits his time between a huge apartment in downtown Cleveland and a relatively modest four-bedroom house in Medina County west of Akron. He paid $580,000 for the house in 2005.

Well this week we in IT department is keeping very busy trying to fix our Outlook calendar with recurring meetings. The problem is, DST is starting 2 wks earlier this year...March 11 instead of April 1st, and people who are not patched meetings are showing up an our ealier after the 11...and to make matters worse..those who are patched, but accept a meeting from someone who is not meetings will then show up as an hour later  ;D yeah I am confused too. So we are busy trying to fix outlook, Blackberries and all other time dependant machines we have in office. What a nightmare!

here's a little story
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17135007/

Daylight-saving glitch threatens mini-Y2K
Software bug could skew everything from Outlook to airline schedules

Daylight saving time arrives a little earlier — March 11 — and stays a little later — Nov. 4 — this year. And it’s bringing a problem along with it that could affect everything from stock trades to airline schedules to your BlackBerry.

Software created before the law mandating the change passed in 2005 is set to automatically advance its timekeeping by one hour on the first Sunday in April, not the second Sunday in March. Congress decided that more early evening daylight would translate into energy savings.

The result is a glitch reminiscent of the Y2K bug, when cataclysmic crashes were feared if computers interpreted the year 2000 as 1900 and couldn’t reconcile time appearing to move backward. If banks and other institutions aren't properly prepared, automatic stock trades reportedly might happen at the wrong hour, buildings that unlock at a certain time could stay shut, and airline flight schedules could be scrambled.

Commuter Saves Man on Subway Tracks
By DEEPTI HAJELA
AP

http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/commuter-saves-man-on-subway-tracks/20070103091809990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

NEW YORK (Jan. 3) - Trying to rescue a teenager from a subway track as a train roared in, Wesley Autrey faced a harrowing choice: Try to pull the young man to the platform, or push him down and hope to find a safe harbor between the rails.

"I tried to pull him up, but I had to make a split decision whether or not to struggle and maybe end up getting us both killed," Autrey said later. "So I just chose to dive on top of him and pin him down."

It worked. The train passed over them, saving the 19-year-old who had fallen, police said. A relative identified him as Cameron Hollopeter, a student at the New York Film Academy.

Hollopeter's stepmother, Rachel Hollopeter, said Autrey was "an angel."

"He was so heroic," she said early Wednesday in a telephone interview. "If he wasn't there, this would be a whole different call."

The teenager had a medical problem Tuesday and tumbled onto the tracks at a station in northern Manhattan, police said.

Autrey, waiting with his two young daughters, jumped down and rolled with the young man into the trough between the rails as a southbound train came into the station.

The drainage trough is typically about 12 inches deep but can be as shallow as 8 or as deep as 24, a New York City Transit spokesman said.

The train's operator put the emergency brakes on. Before the train stopped, two cars passed over the men - with about 2 inches to spare, Autrey said.

Neither man was hit, police said. Authorities said the rescued man was in stable condition later Tuesday at a local hospital.

Autrey, 50, declined medical attention. Onlookers cheered him, hugged him and called him a hero.

"I don't feel like I did something spectacular; I just saw someone who needed help," he told The New York Times. "I did what I felt was right."

Jokes / Be Strong Honey, I love you...
« on: November 08, 2006, 06:11:57 PM »
A guy breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a
young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him
to a chair, while tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her,
kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.
While he's in there, the husband tells his wife:
"Listen, this guy's an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He probably
spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw
how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't
complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how
much he nauseates you. This guy is probably very dangerous.
If he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you."

To which his wife responds, "He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear.
He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked me if we had any Vaseline. I told him it
was in the bathroom.

2006 World Cup - Germany / DeSoWa Thank Yous!
« on: June 29, 2006, 05:23:27 PM »
Well ah back to the grind here in seattle, after having the time of my life in Germany. Now That I am settled...well sorta for the time being...I would like to thank all those who made this experience possible for me.

1. The Soca Warriors. Thank you to the entire squad for qualifying for the world cup which started it all. Also thank you guys for giving your all and proving to the world that we can hold our own amongst the so called big guns. I would never forget the feeling I had after the Bahrain game when we qualified, and when I thought nothing came replaced that feeling, up came the Sweden game. From the start there was a nice vibe and the feelng was great. But after the final whistle blow, that great feeling of pride and happiness came back again...ten fold! It's an experience I would never forget and can't really put into words. Thank You Soca Warriors once again. :applause:

2. SW.net and WN.com. After we qualified and I decided I wanted to go to Germany to show my support, I was a little unsure of what to do, and I needed to know if I was the only one was going to be there lol. But I found this site and from day one ah feel the excitement of hearing guys talk about going to Germany. Well that sealed it, knowing there was hundreds other trinis like me looking to make the trek to Germany for the experience of a lifetime. This site also gave me priceless inforamtion on how to get tickets, through FIFA lottery, which I was successful in getting 2 tickets. Also Being a WN member allowed me to get additional tickets for my host in Germany. I even got the phone # for TTFF on here, which was very vital in acquiring tickets for the ever so hard to get England game. Here I started to feel like part of an extended family and was looking forward to meeting posters in Germany. Thank you SW.net and WN.com for providing me with all the information I needed to make my trip a successful one. :notworthy:

3. My German Host. I am a very lucky person to get to opportunity to meet Voodoofoo, who is a poster on this site. Actually we first met right here, when he posted he had a room for tickets. I replied and offered him a ticket for 1 game (paraguay) and he accepted, and tell me I am welcome to stay at his place for my the entire 2 and a half weeks. I was like, wow someone in Germany is willing to host a trini free of charge for 2 wks for only 1 game ticket to a Trini game? It was unbelievalble, and very generous, so I decided to seek more tickets so he can see all 3 games with me, and thanks to this site I was successful in getting 2 tickets for all 3 games, plus and extra 1 for sweden which came in handy for one of his friends who offered to Drive us to the game from Frankfurt and back for the ticket. That's a 3hr drive one way, so I think that was a good deal. Fellas Voodoofoo turned out to be the best german host someone could ask for. Actaully ah think he more trini than german. He have a trini big flag and all the latest soca (originals I must add) cds in his collection he even knew the Soca twins and all the clubs in frankfurt where the played. So it was easy sailing for me. Thank you voodoofoo for having me at your place and being my personal tour guide in and around Frankfurt, you are a true Warrior!

4. Deutchland! The experience in Germany was beyond my wildest expectations. The people was nice, the atmosphere was great. The beer, the women, the sausages, the women, oh yeah and the fan fest. Thank you germany, and good luck against Argentina tomorrow. :wavetowel:

Big Up to all and I will post some pics as soon as I find a good place to store them.

Big Up!

DeSoWa.
