Cricket Anyone / women's cricket
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:16:35 AM »
I went to the uwi spec grounds on Friday evening to check out the women play cricket- let me tell you it was a great experience.
the MCC women went in to bat first, and our girls bowled and fielded in tip top form- if you see fast bowling...
ah pah yaa- English out for 56 runs - the most boring batting display- all we could think is maybe they thought it was a test match and only defensive batting- their run rate was 2 per over, until they were 6 down and then the next batswoman started hitting more agressively.
anyhow we wrapped up the runs in short short-
kudos to our T&T women cricketers- diving and rolling on the ground, bowling and that mini wicket keeper
great all round work by our ladies

Cricket Anyone / old timers show the way to REAL cricket
« on: November 28, 2009, 05:19:37 PM »
hey guys, there is a competition going on in Jamaica called the Colbi Cup and the participants are over 35's from all the test playing countries. early this morning (was it last night?) it was Westy Indies led by Viv Richards against Sri Lanka. Real good competition- Ambrose and Walsh bowling and making some good catches S Williams..
plenty big bellies on the field, but man running and hitting sixes and fours and thing...
good to see some real cricket again

Other Sports / Golf lessons
« on: March 23, 2009, 09:15:51 AM »
yes I know most people think that gold is for old men and can't really be a sport because there's no effort in standing in one place and hitting a ball. well last year I went to the Millenium Lakes Golf course FREE clinics that were 4 weekly lessons in this game.
what a surprise to me! this is a personally challenging sport. the competition may be on the golf course, but it is really a matter of bettering one's own score every time. On every occasion that you pick up the golf club you don't really know where or how far the ball will go. Yes you can aim and you can be technically correct, but still the ball can veer left, right, or the wind can be in control, or the ground may be wet and the ball will not bounce, or you can miss!!
it all comes down to practice..yup- sounds like all other sports, right?
then this is played in 'fresh air' a big plus.
next plus for me is that I can practice in a 'safe' environment. When I went up to take part in these clinics last year, I was recovering from my close encounter with a car thief- who madeoff with my vehicle... this was my attempt to get out of the house without going out into the 'real world' -
I have since continued with the lessons- and even tho' I'm not good yet, that's because I haven't practised enough- of course!! duh!
it isn't really expensive because I haven't bought any clubs. The golf club lends a club for practice and we get 50 balls (1 bucket) to practice with for $30 (that's TT) that lasts up to an hour, based on how fast you hit.
not bad, eh?
anyway golf may be for old people- but I am enjoying it so far- and I am definitely NOT old ;D

General Discussion / Security for the Summit
« on: March 23, 2009, 08:55:41 AM »
Well I went to the meeting on Thursday for the residents and busines persons in the 'zones' that will be affected by the summit.
first of all let me tell you the highlights of changes
1. CRH will be closed on the western lane during the times that people are arriving - don't know that yet...
2. Wrightson Road will be closed from Lighthouse to Ana Street. maybe even from NP flyover- not sure yet
3. Traffic goes up Abercromby Street- East on Park Street- 2way on Ariapita and Tragarete
4. No parking within any of the 'zones' -boundaries Abercromby St/Park Street/Colville St
5. Residents who park on the streets within these 'zones' are not allowed. Must park in parkades-Stadium, NIPDEC, etc. Not sure yet if they have to pay- not decided yet.
6. For business who want to open on Friday/saturday their staff and customers have to apply for passes to access the business.

This meeting was meant to be an update to the stakeholders about the arrangements for the summit. Seemed that ASP Brathwaite who was to make a PowerPoint presentation, was not acquainted with the presentation, and that was a farce. He abandoned this to try and describe the movement of vehicles. Failed. It was all very confusing.
There was a question and answer period- lots of questions and the same answer -one size fit all- "we'll get back to you on that- not decided yet."
Apparently the Lady Young Rd is to be closed, and the Savannah also. But they aren't sure yet.
Yup - we'll be putting on a show for the world- as long as the delegates do not leave their 'zones'.
wonder what will happen when the wives are visiting the Wild Fowl Trust in South on the Saturday- nobody yet has said that the highway will be closed???
there is to be another meeting this pm at the POS Town Hall at 6pm.
If I attend I'll update you all - any questions?

« on: August 20, 2008, 03:34:37 PM »
well, I checked the bbc site and it appears that Mr. gayle didn't play himself today...hmmm ???
hope it is not because he is underestimating the opposition - do that at your peril >:(
last score I checked was Bermuda 158 for 50 overs, and WI on 114 for 4 - match in progress.
I'll check again for updates

What about Track & Field / Just to apologise
« on: August 19, 2008, 05:31:12 AM »
Hey I just want to apologise for passing on the untrue story about slights to Mr. Crawford at the Olympics. I stupidly thought that the newspaper had checked the story, and I repeated it as truth...I don't usually pass on gossip without the disclaimer- so again, sorry to whoever rewad my remark and believed it like I did. ;D

Cricket Anyone / Coach Dyson
« on: July 09, 2008, 06:19:23 AM »
Now the coach is saying that the players are lacking in some skills. DUH!
just what is the job of a coach? not to improve the playing skills of the players? what has he been doing for the last 2 years?
I want to say time for a shake up in the coaching staff- but that's what has been called for over the last how many - 10? years..
it is so hard to think of a solution that doesn't involve the actual withdrawal from cricket for 2 years to get a new team together. will that help? too drastic? maybe - but at least we should fire this coach who seems to be admitting defeat. >:(

Entertainment & Culture Discussion / after the mas'..what's your story?
« on: February 21, 2007, 07:06:59 AM »
well, here I am after carnival. I did not play jour ouvert this year after many many years of the mud. I love mud. this year I was tempted to play day mas and I actually got a costume in Pulse 8, the post-poison band. Oh my gosh, what a time. I had a ball!!! why not, this band had some nice nice men. I had a nice indian man to dance a salsa tune with, a nice, nice rasta to wine up on and a spanish to hang on to for the rest of the ride. and my best friend through it was Johnny (black)
WOW there's nothing like carnival !!
now I have to take ashes to cleanse my soul...
allyuh have to pray for me all the sins I committed in the name of fun and freedom.. ;D

Football / football uniforms
« on: January 02, 2007, 06:34:44 AM »
okay, I don't know if the mods will move this topic but what I want to know is
when will the players, men not women, get to wear shorter shorts to play? those long droopy drawers just do nothing to inspire...
I long for the day when we could watch those football legs, nothing like a nice pair of thighs on a sweaty man..huh girls?
what about it? time to change the uniforms? ;D

Football / Music for the wc games
« on: June 01, 2006, 08:19:14 AM »

those of you lucky enough to go to the games-  make some noise for the guys on the field-

remember the crowd is the 12th man in the side-

I know there won't be any steelband, but maybe you'll be able to carry a horn or something...

we want to hear the National Anthem loud and clear- the warrior chant- whatever...

Yorke said in an interview that they listen for the noise in the crowd to spur them on-
MAKE SOME NOISE!!!         remember you represent 1.3million
