Football / If Wishes were Horses beggars would ride....
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:31:54 AM »
I can't stand the amount of if this one was on our team, if this one was off the team, if this one was the coach, if if if if if if....Geez...The fact has been said here and beaten like a step child...

IF we do not implement a true and tested program from the youth level as well as designing various youth leagues with a filtering system into the national program our National team would always be wanting... When our teams of the past had their success it was guys who played right here at home with one or two exceptions...has the standard of the game reached that high where we cannot compete unless the majority of our players are playing abroad??

South Zone for example had youth leagues, vibrant village leagues ( La Brea, Point, Fyzo, Mayaro, P/Town, Couva, Siparia, Palo Seco, etc etc... multitude of players to choose from...Where have all these gone?? We need to stop looking for someone else to provide the answer and try in our own way to do it ourselves and for God's sake...stop with the "if".

What ever little you can do makes a difference but we got to start now.

Football / Teach offense
« on: July 24, 2009, 08:42:31 AM »
Offense Anyone...

We see it at the national level and all call for it…”creativity”, “work rate”, “lacking technically”, at what point is it taught….clearly at the national level it is too late.

Over the past few weeks I have been involved in some personal training for a small group of region 3 players…. Now being very offensive minded and knowing that the teachings of offense gives certain liberties to the player (s) and in my opinion broadens their imagination and desire for goals, seeing the field, flair, confidence, movement on and off the ball etc etc. I was totally surprised that basic things I started out teaching and showing were not exposed to these 14-15 year olds example: correct movement off the ball to open up space within the position you play (basic) not to mention the possible space it creates for other players, various elements of the foot to receive, shoot, pass, touch etc to be more efficient and reduce time to trap, shoot, pass etc….the simple direction change of the non striking foot to effect the swing, shot, pass.

When you look at one of the Worlds most consistent winning teams you turn to Brazil, now knowing that wouldn’t you agree that offense breeds imagination, creativity, artistry, flair, technique, confidence, complete team movement, etc. If you do agree then let us expose the game especially at the youth level where we want to encourage these traits and teach the game as it was meant to be played.

Whose responsibility it is to truly train and teach these kids such that I have mentioned and more… the coach? Or should we only rely on the premier camps..? Individual trainers?

It is easier to teach proper defense knowing a good offense.

Coach this starts with you.

Just my humble 2 cents.

Tallman and Flex I am posting this as my way of complaining about the constant about of foul language and personal abuse (attacks) you all allow on this site. I am certain that we have youths visiting this site to learn from the many instrumental post and clippings so willingly posted here by the many die hard..yet it discouraging to recommend or even to allow viewers some like myself who have been a member here for some time now to continue coming to this site. The latest topic "lets be honest" where a man is viciously attacked verbally just for expressing his opinion is rediculous to say the least..and what continued to follow is an all out cussing out between good standing and respected members and this individual...I am asking can you please put a STOP to this sort of behaviour ???

Other soccer forums issue yellow cards and then red to members thus keeping decency to the site..what do you think about that?

Just a thought thanks for all you do.

New National team coach..despite the team he is taking over...

How long would you say (think) it would take for his program to show improvement not only within the team but within the development of the sport in the country??

Football / Alcons U19 Boys visit the US.
« on: April 02, 2008, 02:57:51 PM »
Alcons U19 team arrived in Atlanta on Sunday and drove up to Charlotte NC where they are spending a week. Monday they visited the University of North Carolina Charlotte where they toured the facility and met with the head soccer coach. Tuesday they played one of the local club's U-18 and in attendance were a number of local college coaches. Wednesday they play Montreat College, Thursday is an off day, and Friday they play Queens college. They leave for Atlanta on Saturday morning and there they will continue the rest of their tour.

Based on their game last night against the Monroe U-18 there are a lot of true potential on that team I will get their full names and post it here later on to see if some of you guys know of them.

On another note, anyone heard of a player by the name of Judah Hernandez?? I need some info on him...I appreciate your help.

Football / Sheffield keeps an eye on Jan Michael.

Sheffield keeps an eye on Jan Michael.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

National team goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams could be a Sheffield United player by next month after receiving word while in Kingston with the “Soca Warriors” that Sheffield United are considering signing him on a full term basis.

Williams kept goal for T&T in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Jamaica. He flew in from Belgium where he has been campaigning in the Third Division but has been around quite a bit in the last few weeks. He had trials and training stints at English clubs Derby County and Charlton Athletic as well as joined Irish club Bohemians on a tour in Spain.

“It’s been a real experience out there. I wasn’t playing much in Belgium but the Sheffield management allowed me to move around and possibly get a loan deal. I did quite well but it has been difficult to get a full contract because of the time of the season. But things are looking up now with the latest news from Sheffield and hopefully something good comes out of this one,” Williams told  TTFF Media. "I didn't play in close to two weeks before the call for the Jamaica game and that can be frustrating sometimes but then I also have to be patient and wait on my turn."

Looking back at Wednesday’s draw, he added “I was very proud to be part of the team because we showed a lot of heart and played some good football to come from two goals down against Jamaica in their backyard. Credit to the coaching staff and the players for the effort. We had a bunch of youngsters who were determined and were able to do what the coach wanted. A lot of credit must go to him and Anton Corneal for working with us and getting the right message over."

Creativity: the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas or things.

Considering the above sentence, did we have any person especially in the mid field department that demonstrated creativity during the game ???

Guys like Faustin, Leo, Morris, Yellow Man, Fleary, etc etc used to be in that sweat... It's a pity after a certain generation pass through is like all the youth and them just disappear. ;D

This clip although not from a football (soccer) coach is still one of the better speeches I have heard pertaining to youth coaches.
For those of you involved in coaching at the youth level you may find this very informative.

Football / Establishing a fan base
« on: February 12, 2007, 12:00:58 PM »
Back in the days when Skinner park, Savonetta, Pt. Fortin, etc had huge crowds coming out to support football, was mainly because a number of them men on the various teams comprised of locals. (Men from the village)

These professional teams of today, in my opinion cannot easily beat teams like Malvern, Texaco, Caroni, Defense Force, Police, San Fernando Giants, Pt. Fortin Civic Centre, Palo Seco, Mayaro United, etc etc...  and sorry if I didn't mention any that you all can add to this list. Is the standard of the game in Trinidad that much higher today with all these supposedly highly qualified coaches?? Shoot i'll take my chances with some of the local teams from back in the day that some of you on here may remember especially if you from the central south area.. teams like Siparia Suprs, La Brea Angels, St Margarets Strikers, Embassadors, Nelco, Rebels, Dragons, etc etc..

Clubs must go back to grass-roots in the communities for a fan base to develop and grow. You want support you must come out and give back to the people, and giving back don't only mean financially. Make the people feel appreciated and in turn they will make you feel the same. I know simple games back in the days had venues packed to capacity.. and you can remember those day to... then ask yourself what was the reason for so much support.. and that my friend is the answer.

Peace.

Football / I don't care!!
« on: February 06, 2007, 07:20:36 AM »
I don't care what some of you may say YOUNG, OLD, INEXPERIENCE, etc etc... We have no damn right to take any team, not prepare them as we should, go out there to play friendlies and really expect them to loose then turn around and act like it's ok.. they are young, we didn't have enough time together etc etc.. It's this same mentality that have our game, society, and country in a mess right now!
We have failed and will continue to fail as long as the powers to be continue to call the shots and we just sit idle by criticising and making excuses when we know deep down inside we are doom to fail from the get go.
Someone tell me where is Lincoln Phillips? Who is gonna stand up and say enough is enough.. A,B, or C side is not an excuse for they wearing our colors and suppose t obe the best available and therefore should be up to the challenge! IS our team up to the challenge?? and if not are we really doing all that is possible for them to exceed at the level??

Football / Think this guy would ever play on a TNT team...
« on: December 01, 2006, 09:44:48 AM »
Not going to call names, but at the recently conducted tryouts in Charleston SC one of the players were asked by one of the coaches to play an outside midfield position with the instruction of utalizing the full width of the field.
Within fifteen minutes of the game this particular player walked up to the coach and said for all even Wim to hear in his own words,"Coach I cyar play out dey, I need to be more involved put meh somewhey else like in the middle".

My question is simple, do you see anything wrong with this, and if so can you see this player ever being on a National team??

PS: The players were informed that one of the purpose of the drill was to see if simple instructions/directions can be carried out and of course in what manner and with what result.

Football / Unsung Heroes
« on: August 22, 2006, 11:23:05 AM »
My people I urge you to use this thread as a measure of remembrance and respect to those we knew and remembered playing ball in the village, club, national, and even small goal teams who truly had the sport at heart and provided some little inspiration to you. Name the person (s) and team (s) and may we all share in the remembrance of their influence to our society by the little part they played in the sport we all love.

I remember LESTER PAYNE player for Texaco (Club) at both football & hockey. John Wayne Felix (Patches) and Pat Jones (pee-wat) Small Goal champs and Ideal Strikers (club).

May you all share your respect and remembrance.

Jokes / How Moses got the Commandments..
« on: March 08, 2006, 12:38:51 PM »

God went to the Arabs and said, "I have Commandments
for you that will make your lives better.

The Arabs asked, "What are Commandments?"

And the Lord said, "They are rules for living."

"Can you give us an example?"

"Thou shall not kill."

"Not kill? We're not interested."

He went to the Blacks and said, "I have Commandments."

The Blacks wanted an example, and the Lord said, "Honour thy Father and

Mother."

"Father? We don't know who our fathers are."

Then He went to the Mexicans and said, "I have Commandments."

The Mexicans also wanted an example, and the Lord said "Thou shall not

steal." "Not steal? We're not interested."

Then He went to the French and said, "I have Commandments."

The French too wanted an example and the Lord said,

"Thou shall not commit adultery."

"Not commit adultery? We're not interested."

Finally, He went to the Jews and said, "I have Commandments."

"Commandments?" They said, "How much are they?"

"They're free."

"We'll take 10."

There, that ought to offend just about everybody!

This is an offer to any young man or woman out there at home wanting a chance in obtaining part of their dream. There are NO STRINGS attatched!!
