Cricket Anyone / T&T Quadrangular T20
« on: September 05, 2012, 04:13:32 PM »
This T20 competition that they've been advertising for this weekend, does anyone know where I can get information online? I've yet to hear the radio ad completely. I want to know which day to go... can't make all.

General Discussion / To meddle in a medal discussion
« on: August 08, 2012, 06:24:57 PM »
Am I the only person who has a problem with the use of the noun - medal - as a verb? It is now common place to hear someone say, "the athlete should 'medal' in the event" while medal is defined as a metal disc with an inscription or design, awarded for an achievement or to mark an event. The verb is meddle and that means to interfere in something that doesn't concern you. I can ignore it now so that I don't correct people when I hear them using it, but wow it bothers me. Olympic Games time is prime time for hearing medal the noun become a verb so is pressure like gobar.

So am I the only one?

That ends my rant. Carry on.

Cricket Anyone / Meanwhile, in the 4-Day competition

Jamaica get bowl out for 200 against CCC. Barbados got bowled out for 192, but had the Windwards at 40/4 and we were 142/8 replying to the Leewards 81 all out. All the cricket playing on the beach or what?

Squad of 13: Devon Smith, Lendl Simmons, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brendan Nash, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Marlon Samuels, Carlton Baugh (wk), Darren Sammy (capt.), Fidel Edwards, Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach and Ravi Rampaul.

I think they'll leave Samuels and Rampaul out of the final XI for the match.

Technical Support / Broadcasting an event online
« on: January 11, 2011, 10:44:47 PM »
I wonder if there are any techies on the board with some suggestions.

I have an event on Saturday that a handful of friends in "foreign" want to view. They are asking me if I can set up a laptop with a webcam and a portable broadband card and let them view the event via messenger. Is that the only option available to me? Can I hook a camcorder (which I own) to a laptop and stream it that way instead? Suggestions welcome.

Other Sports / 2010 Commonwealth Games - New Delhi
« on: October 04, 2010, 12:31:09 PM »
The Games have started. I know for sure the women's hockey team has already been in action losing 12-0 to South Africa. Their second match is tomorrow 1:30 pm Delhi time against Australia. The men also get started tomorrow from 9:30 am against New Zealand.

I also know that Christian Homer swimming in Heat 2 of the 50M Backstroke placed third in a time of 27.12. That was good enough to qualify him into the 1st semi-final in lane 2.

William Albert in gymnastics is also competing today, but I am not sure how he's doing.

Jamaica beat us in their netball opener 75-36. T&T's next match is against Samoa on Wednesday from 3:00 pm Delhi time. That's about all I know so far for our Commonwealth games participants.

Other Sports / Jean Pierre bio online
« on: April 23, 2010, 07:38:14 AM »
I now investigating Jean Pierre online for a project I have to do in work and realise that there is nothing substantial on her. What came up as a "bio" is a sad attempt bereft of any information. Does anyone have solid biography information on her?

It looks like I'll have to make a Nalis run, but if anyone has anything please let me know.

Cricket Anyone / Ramdin get dropped and no comment?
« on: March 07, 2010, 01:55:19 PM »
Frankly I'm suprised that the 2nd ODI came and went with the dropping of Ramdin and not a comment was made on this board. What happen? Men lose their Trini pride or what?

While I thought it harsh to drop him based solely on the T20 and 1st ODI he's been very fortunate that the wicket keepers in the region are rubbish. To make the decision worse he was dropped for a guy who has done even less than him and wasn't even in good form in the domestic competition. Not sure how that made sense to them and the fruit bared for all to see.

Smith shouldn't have been in the side at all and showed his pedigree in getting bowled playing that abysmal shot. I doubt we've seen the last of him, which I think is unfortunate.

At the end of the day the guys won the match, even though they tried hard to lose it. I'm happy for the win and actually will take an ugly win anyday once they out number the losses. On to St. Vincent now for the last 3 ODIs.

Jokes / Doctor Dave
« on: March 02, 2010, 07:56:10 PM »
Doctor Dave had slept with one of his patients  and felt guilty all day long. No matter how much he  tried to forget about it, he couldn't. The guilt  and sense of betrayal were overwhelming.

But every now and then he'd hear an internal reassuring voice in his head that said:

"Dave, don't worry about it. You aren't the first  medical practitioner to sleep with one of  their
patients and you won't be the last. And you're single. Just let it go." But invariably another voice in his head would  bring him back to reality.

Whispering...... Dave..........     Dave  .................   Dave........  Dave........

..........you're a vet.

"I have great news, I 'm a month overdue. I think we are going to have a baby! The doctor gave me a test today, but until we find out for sure, we can't tell anybody."

The next day, Mrs. Sharma receives a telephone call from BSES (Bombay Suburban Electricity Supply) because the electricity bill has not been paid.

Am I speaking to Mrs. Sharma ?

Yes...... speaking

Cricket Anyone / T&T vs DC - T20 CL
« on: October 14, 2009, 07:28:16 AM »
In about an hour T&T will be taking on Deccan Chargers. The Chargers have a more intimidating line-up on paper and will present a different challenge from the Somerset team. That being said, it's 20 overs per side and the guys seem up for the challenge. Time will tell how he we do.

Cricket Anyone / Challenge Trophy beating
« on: October 02, 2009, 09:21:55 PM »
Now that was a beating England take today... my gosh! To have a side run down your 258 with 49 balls and 9 wickets to spare is to be properly schooled. Is not only us take a good beating in this tournament. At least England can say that theirs come in the semis.

Cricket Anyone / Now it's India's turn

39/4 after 14 overs. 0/1 after the first and I'm happy that I am not watching this live. I may watch us bowl instead, that has been more encouraging to look at.

Jokes / Men do remember anniversaries
« on: September 28, 2009, 07:07:48 AM »
Hard luck if this one here already.  ::)

MEN DO REMEMBER ANNIVERSARIES?

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed.

She puts on her dressing gown and goes downstairs to look for him.

She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall.

She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.

'What's the matter, dear?' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here at this time of night?'

The husband looks up from his coffee, 'I am just remembering when we first met 20 years ago and started dating. You were only 16. Do you remember back then?' he says solemnly.

The wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring, so sensitive.

'Yes, I do' she replies.

The husband pauses. The words were not coming easily.

'Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?'

'Yes, I remember!' said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.

The husband continues. 'Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years?'

'I remember that too' she replies softly.

He wipes another tear from his cheek and says...

'I would have been released today.

Cricket Anyone / Dyson sacked
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:08:00 PM »
Just saw this article on cricinfo. I wonder what is the reason behind it. Surely we can't blame this coach for the state of our cricket. He inherited a problematic side and more recently lost a series against Bangladesh with a team no coach in the world can get to win at international level. On top of all that the WICB is still refusing to select the better players who are now available. You know we have problems when the panel of selectors aren't free to select the best players.

I happen to agree with them. Why is it that important legislature to help reduce the carnage on the roads taking so long to pass? While this breathalyser is not the solution to the problem, it is important that things like this and the 'speed gun' get passed to allow for more efficient and accurate law enforcement.

Cricket Anyone / ICC World Twenty20: June 9th matches
« on: June 09, 2009, 08:58:40 AM »
Imran Khan on Pakistan's performance in the Twenty20.

They won the too, batted first made 175/5 in their 20 overs. They needed to win by 24 runs if batting first or with 3 overs to go if chasing so 151 is Holland's target to knock them out. Holland are on their way out though in 12th over they are 61/6. While this result is not unexpected I expected them to fight a bit more.
