I do not know if the question has been already asked and/or debated. But, will there be players of Trini background who will participate in this WC? If so, list players and teams.

Panama trashed Haiti 4-0 in a friendly game tonight in Panama.

Both teams are preparing for the next Gold Cup.

Football / Haiti is technically eliminated
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:18:15 PM »
Haiti came from behind to close a 2 goals deficit but Gwada said no way! They scored a 3rd goal in extra time to win the match and deal the defending champ a lethal blow. Haiti will have to beat Cuba in its last match and hope Antigua do what Haiti itself failed to do: beat or tie Guadeloupe.

Match ended 2-3.

However, this is the first match since the last gold cup in which Haiti seems to be coming back. Our new colombian coach seems to be on the right path despite the disappointing elimination.

Football / Jack Warner promises to sponsor Haiti's U-17
« on: July 11, 2008, 02:18:04 PM »

"Je vais sponsoriser la sélection nationale haïtienne des moins de dix-sept ans. Je leur fournirai tous les équipements nécessaires, je paierai leurs billets d'avion pour quelle que soit la destination où ils auront à disputer une compétition et de retour à Trinidad, je leur chercherai un sponsor.

(I will sponsor Haiti's U-17 national team. I will provide them with all necessary equipments, I will pay their airfare to whatever destination [where they would need to go] to participate in a tournament and when I get back to Trinidad, I will find them a sponsor.)

Warner also promises to sign at least 4 players from Haiti's U-20 team for his club Joe Public.

I usually refrain from making comments about the guy in the forum mostly because I don't know him well enough to have a fair opinion on him. However, I have finally had a chance to see him up close and my impression is that he is more like a businessman, an investor, than just a sport administrator like some of you may think.

If Warner is sincere, what is his intention?

Football / Honduras is no joke!
« on: June 08, 2008, 06:41:52 AM »
Last night, Honduras avenged their last year loss to Haiti by returning the favor in a match where Honduras and Suazo dominated the pace of the game with some nice and beautiful counterattacks.

The Catrachos beat Haiti 3-1, handing the Grenadiers their first defeat under coach Wagneau Eloi.

Honduras has disappointed football fans and analysts so many times in the past. However, this time the Catrachos may be in it for real. Watch out Jamaica!

Football / Host Cuba eliminated from U-20 WCQ.
« on: June 01, 2008, 03:56:15 AM »
The Dominican Republic once again outsmarted the Cubans and finished ahead of them in the U-20 WCQ. Last night, the Dominicans beat the Bahamas 7-0 while Cuba fell 0-3 to Haiti, the winner of the group.

Haiti 9pts (+9goals)
DR 4pts (+6goals)
Cub 4pts (+2goals)
Bah 0pt (-17goals)

« on: March 26, 2008, 12:39:43 PM »
For those who wouldn't mind taking a look at the opposition, Haiti vs. Ecuador will be live tonight on FSC at 7:00 PM.

Haiti will field a somewhat B team as some first choice players were not able to make the trip with the team, not even Noel! At the other hand, Ecuador will field a strong team with all the overseas-based players called for the clash. Lord have mercy! ;D

Football / Gunshots at Manning Cup match - Is it safe to play in Jamaica?

Shots fired at Manning Cup match in Arnett
published: Wednesday | September 19, 2007

Violence reared its ugly head in Arnett Gardens yesterday, forcing the abandonment of the Manning Cup match between Charlie Smith and Denham Town at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex in St. Andrew.

During the half-time interval of the game, in which Charlie Smith was leading 5-0, a group of men was seen adjacent to the gym, near the main entrance to the compound.

The men suddenly bared handguns and started firing at each other, which sent a number of students and teachers scampering for cover.

They then fled the compound. However, when the shooting stopped, women were heard screaming, and a man was seen running towards the entrance with a little boy in his arms. However, up to press time, it was not known whether the boy had been shot.

Football / Borat spying on Haiti at pre-olympic game
« on: September 14, 2007, 06:08:55 AM »
JFF comes to Bora's defence
... says TD was on scouting mission

Friday, September 14, 2007

NATIONAL technical director Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic made efforts to scout the Group D match between hosts St Kitts and Haiti, which resulted in his absence from Jamaica's Under-23 training session in Aruba on Monday, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) said in a statement yesterday.

On Wednesday, the Observer reported that Bora was "noticeably missing from Jamaica's Under-23 Olympic team's training session here on Monday".

According to the report, "when enquiries were made of the management staff here, no one could give account of Bora's whereabouts", though "it is believed" that he has gone to St Kitts.

But the JFF release contends that it "finds it unfortunate that the head coach (Wendell Downswell) was not consulted before the printing of the article".

The release also said that Bora was present at both games played by Jamaica in Aruba, a fact that was never questioned by the Observer in either the Wednesday publication or the follow up in yesterday's edition.
Below is the full text of the JFF release:

"Contrary to reports in a local newspaper, the Jamaica Football Federation wishes to advise that technical director Bora Milutinovic has been present at both matches played by Jamaica's National Under-23 team in Aruba.

"The technical director also continues to have discussions with head coach Wendell Downswell regarding the team's participation in the Olympic qualifiers. He will be present at Jamaica's last match against Aruba tonight.

"With respect of reports of his absence from one training session on Monday, the federation further advises that the technical director, after discussions with head coach Wendell Downswell, made efforts to visit St Kitts to watch the match between St Kitts and Haiti in Group D of the qualifiers.

"Based on recent changes in the fixtures, technical director Bora and coach Downswell felt it important that this match be looked at as Jamaica will likely have to face the winner of that match.

"The federation finds it unfortunate that the head coach was not consulted before the printing of the article."

Editor's note: Having got confirmation yesterday from head coach Wendell Downswell and head of delegation Carlton Dennis that enquiries were made of them about the whereabouts of the technical director on Monday, and that what was reported by the Observer was indeed correct, we stand by the essence of the stories. It should also be noted that team manager Howard Bell was also contacted about Bora's whereabouts.

Football / Haiti is eliminated
« on: August 25, 2007, 06:14:07 AM »
Haiti lost 4-1 to Nigeria. France beat Japon 2-1 to finish 2nd behind the Eaglets.

Nigeria was simply too strong for Haiti. However, Haiti played part of the 2nd half with one man down and looked sluggish at the end of the game due to them chasing the vermine eaglets all over the field to keep the score down ;D.

Ironically, Haiti enjoyed a much greater ball possession in the first half but the Nigerians scored 3 goals!

There is no pride in failure. However, the young Caribbean players did give a good account of our football. They scored in all of their games.

I hate being a sore loser or even sounding like one, but some Nigerian kids don't look under 17 at all . Maybe, I am a little bit biased and angry ;D

Football / CONCACAF teams in WC-17

Costa Rica/Togo 1-1
Honduras/Spain  2-4

Haiti/Japan         1-1 (second half)

Haiti is playing a high level football. Japan scored an early goal but Haiti has taken the match to a new level and place Japan under siege! Hopefully, we don't allow a soft goal at the end of the match ;)

Football / U-17 Haiti, Brazil, USA, and TnT in 4-team tournament?
« on: July 04, 2007, 04:16:57 PM »
According to the rumours, there will soon be a 4-team tournament between the U-17 teams of Haiti, Brazil, USA, and TnT. Apparently, this warm up tournament will be hosted by TnT. Has anyone heard of that?

16
It's no secret that many caribbean countries have strong ties with Africa and some are more 'african' than African countries like Cape Verde! Therefore, wouldn't it be nice if CAF invited teams like Jamaica, Haiti, TnT, and Barbados in the African Nations Cup?

Football / Demystifying the group of death
« on: March 26, 2007, 07:08:36 AM »
Many were quick to point to the group  Mexico-Honduras-Panama-Cuba as the group of death; but the last friendlies seem to indicate that the supposedly group of death may actually not be that scary.

Group C
Panama and Cuba got whipped 0-3 and 1-3 by Haiti and Venezuela, respectively.
Honduras beat El Salvador 2-0, but anything less than that would have been a disaster for the fancy Hondurans.
So, Mexico and Honduras should survive this group.

Group A
Haiti easily dispatched Panama 3-0 to remind the rest of the group that the current caribbean champs mean business.
Costa Rica confirms its status of favourite in the group by burying down-under New Zealand 4-0.
Guadeloupe took advantage of a slow start of the fancy TnT to put two goals in their back pocket, which allowed them to salvage a draw against a faster and technically better TnT team.
Canada beat Bermuda 3-0 in their own back yard. Well, the Bermudans are no world beater, but they're not one of your typical minnows either.
So, Costa Rica, Haiti, and Canada are very well in line for the 1st and 2nd places in the group.

Group B
TnT came back from 2 goals down to remind Guadeloupe of who are running the show in the Caribbean. The warriors made good use of their higher physical and technical abilities to deny the Guadeloupeans what would have been an upset.
El Savador continues to struggle. As expected, they once again lost to Honduras.
Guatemala also disappointed its fans by failing to beat a demobilised Barbados team. They even failed to score a single goal in the clash.
USA confirm its status of giant by beating world cup team Ecuador 3-1.
So, USA and TnT should respectively get the 1st and the 2nd places.

In conclusion group A, which was considered the weakest link, may actually be the group of death.

Why? Get ready for it: because the world will end in 2012... December 21 to be precised.

Yep! I am quite upset with that. I am not ready  :-\

According to the same Mexican natives (Mayan and Aztecs) who correctly predicted the arrival of the Europeans in Mexico in the early 16th century,  life will cease on earth due to a magnetic shift that would occur in that year. Ironically, our own genius Einstein did not offer a better help. He confirmed the Amerindians theory that our planet will perfectly align with many other celestial bodies in 2012 causing a lethal magnetic shift. Danm! >:( (I hope he made a mistake  ;D)

Merlin, Nostradamus, and some chinese psychic/prophets also set the end of the world in 2012! Why do they care? They're already dead, anyway. :heehee:

To make things worst, the Bible even tells us who is going to do it: God Himself. Why? Because we are bad. Huh!

Com'on, now guys! Let's promise to be good this year and maybe God will give us one more World Cup after 2010

Haiti outclass Guadeloupe
Ian Prescott iprescott@trinidadexpress.com

Sunday, January 21st 2007

AFTER resting half of their starters against Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti's footballers dominated  Guadeloupe from the opening whistle to come away comfortable 3-1 winners of the first of the Digicel Caribbean Cup semi-finals yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Having also struck the Guadeloupe upright on three occasions, Haiti look a formidable opponent for whichever team they meet in the final on Tuesday.
Guadeloupe, missing Sheffield United defender David Sommeil from their line-up, were pinned back for most of the first half.  Haiti should have had at least a one-goal lead at the half and were given an excellent opportunity on the half hour through Alexandre Boucicat. As he bore down on  Raymond Ednerson 's low cross at the back post, many thought Boucicat had scored, but instead he turned his shot inches wide.  Scrambling to cover his far post, goalkeeper Fabrice Mercury had little chance had the shot been on target.
Even before then, Haiti were wasting their chances. Lerry Hanay, a defensive midfielder,  overlapped and met the ball with a good header that looked a sure goal, until a good save from keeper Mercury in the 14th minute.
Ten minutes later, centre-forward Eliphene Cadet looked a clearly frustrated man when Boucicat broke clear up the right, but instead of  finding his teammate, forced an angled shot which the Guadeloupe keeper tipped wide.
Haiti's Raymond Ednerson did the same up the opposite flank minutes later, when scooping the ball over the Guadeloupe goal.  Cadet also struck the post in the 36th when collecting Fucien Brunel's pass atop the six-yeard box and hitting a curling left-footer away from the dive of beaten keeper Mercury.
Guadeloupe's chances were few and far between, but striker Fabien Raddas got closest with a fierce shot on goal, which Haiti keeper Gabard Fenelon treated with disdain. First he parried the ball, then took it on his chest.
Haiti finally took the lead in the 55th through Cadet's looping header into Guadeloupe's goal, and doubled their tally at 2-0 in the 64th with  Brunel's close-up finish to  Money Chery's right crossball.
Between goals, the Haitian keeper saw rare action when making a double save,  first at the feet of  striker Fabien Raddas and then plucking down Wilfrid Louseau's follow up.
Haiti's Brunel also struck the Guadeloupe post in the 60th minute after outpacing the Guadeloupe defence. But that miss mattered little when Fritzon Baptiste finished a brilliant move in the 77th minute to put Haiti into a 3-0 lead.
The build-up saw Man of the Match Cadet play a diagonal pass inside the left back to Chery, who squared the ball to  centre-field  for Baptiste to bundle into the Guadeloupe goal.
Afterwards, Haiti's Baptiste rounded keeper  Mercury and struck Guadeloupe's upright, before Guadeloupe got a late consolation goal.
But, by the time big midfielder Jean LucLamourde planted a header past the Haitian keeper in the a 83rd minute, Guadeloupe were already well-beaten.
Trinidad and Tobago were playing Cuba in the second semi-final after press-time last night.

Football / French Invasion Through Guadeloupe?

BASSE-TERRE, Guadeloupe: The French national football team, also known as “Les Bleus (The Blues)” is largely made up of native Guadeloupean players.

Thierry Henry, Arsenal’s top scorer, is considered as one the most dangerous strikers in the world. Henry’s family is from the small Guadeloupean island of La Desirade.

Lilian Thuram (Juventus) is also Guadeloupean-born and, though a defensive player, scored twice, in 1998, when France became world champions. With Mickael Sylvestre (Manchester), William Gallas (Chelsea), and Pascal Chimbonda, they are considered as the “black guard” of the French team. The sixth one is Louis Saha (Manchester).

So, 50 per cent of the French national team on the field could be from Guadeloupe. That’s why this year, more than ever, Guadeloupeans are very interested in this World Cup. Some of them really think that, without these French West-Indian players, “Les Bleus” could never be at that level in such a competition.

Most Guadeloupeans are usually fans of the Brazilian football team but this year is unusual because Guadeloupean football fans are divided into several groups: one for the French team and others for the Brazilian or Trinidadian teams.

In 1998, when France won the World Cup for the first time in its history, after the tremendous final match against Ronaldo’s Brazil, many Guadeloupeans both felt happy and unhappy.

Haiti hang on to win their opening game against Martinique in Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals

Haiti defend well to produce hard fought one nil victory over Martinique

Posted on January 13, 2007

Friday, January 12, 2007 – Hasely Crawford Stadium, Trinidad: Haiti opened their Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals tournament with a 1-0 win over the French West Indies side Martinique after a hard fought 90 minutes in the Hasley Crawford stadium.

Haiti opened the brighter of the two sides and with Guillame Stephane and Mones Chery combining well for Haiti posed the greater threat. In fact it was the same two players who combined to set Brunel Fucien through on goal in the 12th minute. The pacey striker was coolness personified when he neatly lifted the ball over the onrushing Martinique keeper Eddie Heurlie and had the easiest of tasks to simply poke home the ball into an empty net.

Haiti showed real purpose as they did not sit on their lead and took the game to Martinique. They were unfortunate again in fact in the 38th minute when captain Richard Bruny saw his well timed shot fly past the wrong side of the post.

Martinique showed more purpose and intent in the second half and came close to the elusive equalizer on 62 minutes when Patrick Percin combined well with Steve Gustan to set up Audrick Linord who went so close with a right footed effort that seemed destined to hit the back of the Haiti net.

Martinique were further aggrieved when their striker Franciano Etinof was brought down by Haitian keeper Fenelon Gabard when straight through on gosl. However referee Courtney Campbell only produce the yellow card for the lucky Haitian.

This was to prove vital as from the ensuing free kick Gabard made a wonderful save from Gustan’s fine effort that forced the Haitian net minder into a fine one handed save.

Try as they might Martinique could simply find no way past a stalwart Haitian defense that simply refused to be broken and in the 92nd minute it took a last minute diving tackle from Haitian captain and Motorola Man of the match Bruny to keep Martinique scoreless amd ensure the Haitian’s go top of the Sedley Joseph group after one days play.

Haiti: Gabard Fenelon, Frantz Gilles, Peter Jermaine, Stephane Guillaume, Fucien Brunel, Eliphene Cadet, Alexandre Boucicaut, Pierre Richard Bruny, Mones Chery, Alain Vubert, Josue Mayard

Martinique: Eddy Heurlie, Patrick Percin, Joan Deluge, Sebastien Lugiery, Gael Germany, Wilfrid Thalien, Jose Goron, Charles Coridon, Franciano Etinon, Steve Gustan, Audrick Linord

Shabbaz picks Guyana as winner of the Digicel Cup.

Digicel Caribbean Cup: Coach of Trinidad & Tobago, Jamal Shabazz confident Golden Jaguars can win Digicel Carribean Cup

Technical Director of the national football team, Jamal Shabazz, of the twin-island republic, is confident ahead of the upcoming matches in the finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup Football Tournament which gets underway on Friday in Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking to Stabroek Sport by telephone yesterday, Shabazz said the team's chances of winning the title "are as good as any of the other finalists."
Guyana is in the Bobby Sookram group along with St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guadeloupe and Cuba.
The other group, the Sedley Joseph group, comprises hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and the winner of a play-off between Haiti and Bermuda.
"We have respect for the other teams, but we do not fear any of them."
The local ball-weavers flew to Trinidad on Thursday and began their final week of preparation that very afternoon.
"They are working like slaves. They are working just as hard as any of the other teams and I'm confident they will bring home the title."
He said the new addition to the technical staff, Americo Felopa of Brazil, who is the physical fitness trainer, carried the squad through some intense sessions of physical training in the gym in order to improve their fitness levels, since this was one of the areas of their weaknesses while finishing while on the attack was another.
He added that they were to do a training session on the beach yesterday afternoon.
Asked if the team would play any warm up matches prior to their opening encounter against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on January 14, Shabazz said he would like to give the team a warm-up match against a Trinidadian club side on Tuesday, but plans for that had not been finalized. He did not disclose the possible club team, but stated that "lots of clubs wants to play us but nothing has been finalised as yet."
Guyana's second group match is scheduled for January 16 against Guadeloupe, whom the defeated 3-2 in a Group H match at the GCC, Bourda ground last November and their final match two days later will be against the Caribbean's number-one ranked team, Cuba.
The top two teams of their respective groups will advance to the semi finals and automatically earn a spot to July's CONCACAF Gold Cup Tournament which will be played in the USA.
Quizzed about the state of Shawn Bishop's injury, Shabazz informed Stabroek Sport that Bishop had visited a doctor yesterday and had been advised to rest his ankle for two days.
"He will resume training on Monday" Shabazz stated.
Bishop injured his ankle during the recently concluded Kashif and Shanghai tournament.
Prior to the present Trinidad encampment, the `Golden Jaguars' as they are called, had a four-day encampment in Guyana during which emphasis was placed on fitness and tactical work. The team's training has been affected by the lack of finance and Shabazz said yesterday the situation had not improved.
"At this point the team is getting by on miracles.
"I don't know how long it will last, but right now we are looking for someone who can turn water into wine.
"I personally tried on three occasions to get sponsorship for the team but never got anything. So right now we are looking for a saviour to come. We thought at one point that that saviour would have been the Government of Guyana, then the private sector, but we're still awaiting the deliverer. Right now we're doing the best with the limited financial resources and with the hope that after this hardship, ease will come."
Meanwhile, there are two additions to the squad in overlapping midfield player Dwight Peters and defender Anthony Harding, while expected to join the squad in Trinidad over the weekend are English-based players Shawn `Bubbly' Beveney (defence) and goalkeeper Jason Lloyd, along with US-based defender John Rodrigues and Trinidad-based professional players, striker Randolph Jerome and defender Abassi McPherson.

The full squad reads: (goalkeepers) Richard Reynolds, Andrew Durant and Jason Lloyd; (defenders) Charles Pollard, Howard Lowe, John Rodrigues, Leslie Holligan, Walter Moore, Abassi McPherson, Kelvin McKenzie and Anthony Harding; (midfielders) Kayode McKinnon, Gregory Richardson, Shawn Bishop, Konatta Manning, Carey Harris, Shawn Beveney and Dwight Peters; (forwards) Nigel Codrington, Anthony Abrams, Randolph Jerome and Collie Hercules.

The technical staff comprises: Technical Director Jamal Shabazz, Felopa, head coach Wayne `Wiggy' Dover, assistant coach Kevin Pearce and assistant manager Frank `English' Parris.
